LOOK-ALIKES?
"Stephen meanwhile, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked to the sky above and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God's right hand." -Acts 7:55
Stephen was surrounded by a "stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears" (Acts 7:51). These people had always opposed the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51) and could not be expected to respond in a godly way to Stephen's challenging speech. Stephen was well aware of this, but he did not tone down or mince his words. Stephen came on strong, and "those who listened to his words were stung to the heart; they ground their teeth in anger at him" (Acts 7:54). "The onlookers were shouting aloud, holding their hands over their ears as they did so. Then they rushed at him as one man, dragged him out of the city, and began to stone him" (Acts 7:57-58). "With that he died" (Acts 7:60).
Stephen, the first martyr, was not naive. He had an exceptional wisdom (Acts 6:10). Stephen was not a victim of circumstances. He knew what he was getting into. He risked and gave his life to be like Jesus. Stephen was courageous. He knew that Jesus had died violently to give us salvation, and Stephen was willing to imitate Him. Stephen was obedient. Like any human being, Stephen didn't want to die a violent and painful death. Like Jesus, however, Stephen said to God the Father: "Not my will, but Yours be done" (Mt 26:39, our transl.). Stephen was loving. Stephen, like Jesus (Lk 23:34), even forgave His murderers (Acts 7:60).
Stephen was like Jesus. How about you? "If we have been united with Him through likeness to His death, so shall we be through a like resurrection" (Rm 6:5).
Prayer: "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit" (Acts 7:59).
Promise: "I Myself am the Bread of Life. No one who comes to Me shall ever be hungry, no one who believes in Me shall ever thirst." -Jn 6:35
Praise: Laura repented of lethargy and sloth and is now filled with a supernatural energy to serve God's people.

UNSTOPPABLE
"This man never stops..." -Acts 6:13
St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr:
* was "a man filled with grace and power" (Acts 6:8),
* was full of the Holy Spirit and faith (Acts 6:5),
* was so full of wisdom that the international all-star team of debaters "proved no match for the wisdom and spirit with which he spoke" (Acts 6:8-10),
* lived so full a life that, even though he was commissioned to handle the time-consuming job of distributing food, he still found plenty of time to witness about Jesus,
* "worked great wonders and signs among the people" (Acts 6:8),
* evangelized so powerfully that the Jews rated him as a greater enemy than the twelve apostles, choosing him as the first Christian to be killed, and
* focused so intently and lovingly on Jesus that even while hostile enemies sought his life, he radiated heavenly joy (Acts 6:15).
The false witnesses who testified against Stephen managed to speak one true statement: "This man never stops" (Acts 6:13). Like Stephen, may we be so full of the Holy Spirit that we never stop serving, loving, praising, and sharing the risen Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I imitate Jesus with the attentiveness, faith, and devotion of St. Stephen.
Promise: "You should not be working for perishable food but for food that remains unto life eternal, food which the Son of Man will give you." -Jn 6:27
Praise: Marty, a non-Catholic, discerned that Jesus was calling him to be a Catholic priest. He joined the Church that he once criticized and is now studying for the priesthood.

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday of Easter
April 14th Third Sunday of Easter
Jesus, Easter and Divine Mercy Sundays have passed, and now we are back to the daily ways
of life.
But Jesus, in You there isn't any ordinary ways of life.
We are called to be new creations, we are called to be on fire with love for You and
graced to help others.
Jesus, never let us feel ordinary, but let us feel as new vessals of love, joy and peace.
Lord, let us spread Your love to others, by how we live.
Lord, let us draw others to You by our examples of love, joy and peace.
Jesus, remind us that we are pilgrims on a journey through life that is leading us to Your
heavenly home.
Let us not be so concerned and worried, about the pressures of life, but, see Your love
and help in all situations.
Thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday THE HUNDRED-YARD DASH

"Actually they were not far from land - no more than a hundred yards." -John 21:8
When we sin, we distance ourselves from the Lord. Like Jonah, we try to get as far away from
God as we can (see Jon 1:3). Like Jonah, however, we run into God no matter where we go. The
psalmist questioned: "Where can I go from Your Spirit? From Your presence where can I flee?
If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I sink to the nether world, You are present
there" (Ps 139:7-8). Nevertheless, if we insist on it, the Lord will let us finally escape
from Him. This place of escape is called hell or eternal damnation where we can separate
ourselves from God forever.
When we run away from God, the Lord will try to flush us out of our hiding place of sin
(see Lk 15:4). As He did with Adam and Eve, the Lord will call to us: "Where are you?"(Gn 3:9)
If we turn back to Him, He will meet us much more than halfway. Our heavenly Father will run
out to meet us, throw His arms around our necks, and kiss us (Lk 15:20).
However, the Lord will not force Himself on us. We must repent. When Peter distanced himself
from Jesus by going back into the fishing business and rejecting Jesus' call to be a fisher
of men, Jesus reached out to Peter and got within a hundred yards of him (Jn 21:8). However,
Peter had to jump in the lake and swim a hundred yards (Jn 21:7). In His love for us, Jesus
will travel all time and space to be close to us. Through repentance, we must cover a few
yards to get to Jesus.
In this Easter season, how close are you to Jesus? If you've distanced yourself from Him,
repent and jump in the lake.
Prayer: Father, if I sin, may I make a hundred-yard dash back to You.
Promise: "We testify to this. So too does the Holy Spirit, Whom God has given to those that
obey Him." -Acts 5:32
Praise: "Worthy is the Lamb That was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength,
honor and glory and praise!" (Rv 5:12)

Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He's alive! "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your
sting?" (1 Cor 15:55) We as Christians have personally had the most overwhelming experience
imaginable. The One Who loves us so much, Who would do anything for us, was brutally murdered
by crucifixion. To have a loved one die is traumatic enough without it being a violent murder.
Amazingly, this Victim came out of the grave on the third day. We who love Him are
transformed from a shattered life to victory, from weeping to joy, and from mourning to
dancing (Ps 30:6, 12). Imagine a dead parent, spouse, or friend walking in the room right now.
This would be a shadow of what happens when we meet the risen Christ.
We may think we cannot meet the risen Jesus because ...........................

I Trust in YOU! St. Victor, a catechumen-someone learning the faith in preparation for baptism.
He was captured in the Roman persecution of Christians and martyred around the year 300 in
Portugal. St. Victor, who died for the faith he was only just learning and beginning to practice,
pray for us!

Local Numbers Double Practically Overnight!
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 19 years. Begun by Fr. Al
in 1991, it now continues with three teachers trained by him and by Presentation
Ministries. In cities where local numbers have been established, the BTL provides

Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He's alive! "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your
sting?" (1 Cor 15:55) We as Christians have personally had the most overwhelming experience
imaginable. The One Who loves us so much, Who would do anything for us, was brutally murdered
by crucifixion. To have a loved one die is traumatic enough without it being a violent murder.
Amazingly, this Victim came out of the grave on the third day. We who love Him are
transformed from a shattered life to victory, from weeping to joy, and from mourning to
dancing (Ps 30:6, 12). Imagine a dead parent, spouse, or friend walking in the room right now.
This would be a shadow of what happens when we meet the risen Christ.
We may think we cannot meet the risen Jesus because ...........................

THE HUNDRED-YARD DASH
"Actually they were not far from land - no more than a hundred yards." -John 21:8
When we sin, we distance ourselves from the Lord. Like Jonah, we try to get as far away from God as we can (see Jon 1:3). Like Jonah, however, we run into God no matter where we go. The psalmist questioned: "Where can I go from Your Spirit? From Your presence where can I flee? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I sink to the nether world, You are present there" (Ps 139:7-8). Nevertheless, if we insist on it, the Lord will let us finally escape from Him. This place of escape is called hell or eternal damnation where we can separate ourselves from God forever.
When we run away from God, the Lord will try to flush us out of our hiding place of sin (see Lk 15:4). As He did with Adam and Eve, the Lord will call to us: "Where are you?" (Gn 3:9) If we turn back to Him, He will meet us much more than halfway. Our heavenly Father will run out to meet us, throw His arms around our necks, and kiss us (Lk 15:20).
However, the Lord will not force Himself on us. We must repent. When Peter distanced himself from Jesus by going back into the fishing business and rejecting Jesus' call to be a fisher of men, Jesus reached out to Peter and got within a hundred yards of him (Jn 21:8). However, Peter had to jump in the lake and swim a hundred yards (Jn 21:7). In His love for us, Jesus will travel all time and space to be close to us. Through repentance, we must cover a few yards to get to Jesus.
In this Easter season, how close are you to Jesus? If you've distanced yourself from Him, repent and jump in the lake.

"The word of God continued to spread." -Acts 6:7
Peter and John were arrested, jailed, threatened, and told to shut up about God's word (Acts 4:3ff). They refused to stop (Acts 4:19-20). The apostles were then arrested, jailed, threatened, told again to shut up about God's word, and whipped (Acts 5:17ff). However, "day after day, both in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news of Jesus the Messiah" (Acts 5:42).
No outside pressure stopped the early Church from proclaiming God's word. So the devil tried an inside job. Through an administrative oversight and/or a demonic strategy, the widows of the Greek-speaking Christians were "neglected in the daily distribution of food" (Acts 6:1). The apostles were tempted to neglect the word of God and to make sure the widows of the Greek-speaking Christians would no longer be neglected. They probably were tempted to think this would only be temporary, but a temporary neglect of our God-given callings often goes on indefinitely. However, the apostles did not fall into the trap. They continued to concentrate on the ministry of the word (Acts 6:4), while appointing deacons to better administer the food.
Are you neglecting your God-given responsibilities because of sin, selfishness, or fear? Are you neglecting them because of misguided attempts to help or rescue others? Is a temporary neglect becoming permanent? Concentrate on your calling.
Prayer: Risen Jesus, send the Holy Spirit to keep me focused and to help me overcome distractions.
Promise: "He told them, 'It is I; do not be afraid.' They wanted to take Him into the boat, but suddenly it came aground on the shore they had been approaching." -Jn 6:20-21
Praise: Pope St. Martin I accepted the faith, the papacy, torture, imprisonment, and martyrdom.

JESUS AND THE CHURCH
"If, on the other hand, it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them without fighting God Himself." -Acts 5:39
The culmination of the Easter season is Pentecost. Pentecost involves both the coming of the Spirit and the birthday of the Church. Those who are committed to the risen Christ and filled with the Spirit love the Church (see Eph 5:25). The Spirit and the Bride (the Church) are of one accord (Rv 22:17).
Jesus loved the Church so much that He died for her (Eph 5:25). The Church is Jesus' body (e.g. 1 Cor 12:12). If one member of the Church suffers, Jesus suffers (1 Cor 12:26). If we hear the Church, we hear Jesus (Lk 10:16). If we reject the Church, we reject Jesus (Lk 10:16). If we fight the Church, we are fighting Jesus, Who is God (Acts 5:39). If we persecute the Church, Jesus says: "Why do you persecute Me?" (Acts 9:4) Jesus identifies with the Church this way because He loves her so much.
Jesus so identifies with the Church that, if you mess with the Church, you mess with Jesus; likewise, if you love the Church, you love Jesus. Love the Church as Jesus does (Eph 5:25), and you are loving Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I love the Church despite her stains and wrinkles (see Eph 5:27).
Promise: "Jesus then took the loaves of bread, gave thanks, and passed them around to those reclining there; He did the same with the dried fish, as much as they wanted." -Jn 6:11

JESUS AND THE CHURCH
"If, on the other hand, it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them without fighting God Himself." -Acts 5:39
The culmination of the Easter season is Pentecost. Pentecost involves both the coming of the Spirit and the birthday of the Church. Those who are committed to the risen Christ and filled with the Spirit love the Church (see Eph 5:25). The Spirit and the Bride (the Church) are of one accord (Rv 22:17).
Jesus loved the Church so much that He died for her (Eph 5:25). The Church is Jesus' body (e.g. 1 Cor 12:12). If one member of the Church suffers, Jesus suffers (1 Cor 12:26). If we hear the Church, we hear Jesus (Lk 10:16). If we reject the Church, we reject Jesus (Lk 10:16). If we fight the Church, we are fighting Jesus, Who is God (Acts 5:39). If we persecute the Church, Jesus says: "Why do you persecute Me?" (Acts 9:4) Jesus identifies with the Church this way because He loves her so much.
Jesus so identifies with the Church that, if you mess with the Church, you mess with Jesus; likewise, if you love the Church, you love Jesus. Love the Church as Jesus does (Eph 5:25), and you are loving Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I love the Church despite her stains and wrinkles (see Eph 5:27).
Promise: "Jesus then took the loaves of bread, gave thanks, and passed them around to those reclining there; He did the same with the dried fish, as much as they wanted." -Jn 6:11

OIL RATIONING?
"The Holy Spirit, Whom God has given to those who obey Him..." -Acts 5:32 "He does not ration His gift of the Spirit." -John 3:34
The above two statements seem somewhat contradictory. Scripture says God gives the Spirit to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32). The clear implication of Peter as he spoke these words to the disobedient Sanhedrin is that the Lord will not give the Holy Spirit to those who won't obey Him. Then the second Scripture quotation above says that God doesn't ration the Holy Spirit (Jn 3:34), but pours out the Spirit in unlimited measure.
In truth, God has lavished the Spirit "on all mankind" (Acts 2:17). Nevertheless, when we disobey God, we turn our backs on Him and His will. In our disobedience, we put a lid over the earthen vessel of our life (see 2 Cor 4:7) and refuse to receive His unrationed flow of the Spirit. We stifle the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19).
Sometimes our disobedience may not stem from outright rebellion, but simply weakness. We don't have a spiritual lid on our life; we receive the Holy Spirit, but we can't retain the Spirit. Our sins and weaknesses cause cracks in the vessels of our lives. We leak like broken cisterns (see Jer 2:13).
On the first Easter, Jesus breathed on His apostles and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). The Easter season is a time of pouring out the Spirit, so ask the Lord for the grace to repent of any disobedience and anything that might stifle or sadden the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19; Eph 4:30) in your life. Make an Easter Confession to repair the cracks in your life, and ask the Father to pour out His love in your heart through the Holy Spirit (Rm 5:5).
Prayer: Jesus, may my cracks be "sealed" by the Spirit (2 Cor 1:22) so I may stay filled with the Spirit (Acts 2:4).
Promise: "Whoever believes in the Son has life eternal." -Jn 3:36
Praise: St. Stanislaus was such an anointed pastor that his own bishop wanted to step down and appoint Stanislaus as bishop in his place, an offer which Stanislaus refused.
