This week, oh! Jesus, Your church celebrates "Our Lady of the Rosary".

What a gift You and mom have given us through the rosary.

We can intercede, we can praise, and we can meditate on Your life and on moms.

We need to constantly give You praise, honor and glory, for Your love is an unconditional
love that constantly draws us to relationship with You.

Let us see that by meditating on the mysteries, we can draw closer to You and so walk with
You toward heaven.

Thank You for the gift.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday FAITH, NOT PESSIMISM

"Increase our faith." -Luke 17:5

When Habakkuk prayed, he cried out, "Violence!" (Hab 1:2) He described his situation as
"ruin," "misery," "destruction," "strife," and "clamorous discord" (Hab 1:3). He begged
God to intervene (Hab 1:2), but God didn't seem to do anything.

We live in times which fit Habakkuk's description. We live in the most violent and
murderous of times for several reasons. One major reason is the mass murders occurring
through abortions. We tend to feel depressed and hopeless. However, the Lord calls this a
"rash" response to the violence and evil in our society (see Hab 2:4). Rather, our response
should be one of faith (Hab 2:4). If we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can uproot
the violence and death entrenched in our society (Lk 17:6).

Pope St. John Paul II taught: "If we look at today's world, we are struck by many negative
factors that can lead to pessimism. But this feeling is unjustified: we have faith in God our
Father and Lord, in His goodness and mercy" (Mission of the Redeemer, 86). Therefore, despite
violence and sin, don't be pessimistic, but have even greater faith. Walk by faith, not sight
(2 Cor 5:7).


Prayer: Father, may my faith become stronger, especially when conditions become worse.

Promise: "I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God bestowed when my hands were laid on
you. The Spirit God has given us is no cowardly spirit, but rather One that makes us strong,
loving, and wise." -2 Tm 1:6-7

Praise: Alleluia! "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death,
where is your sting?" (1 Cor 15:54-55) Jesus is risen! Alleluia!

Divine Mercy Incarnate Jesus, I want to thank you for the glimpses of hope and joy that you
have gifted to me in Your gentle, merciful love. These moments with You are everything that
keeps me hoping and loving. I prostrate humbly at Your feel in overwhelming gratitude for these
glimpses. I also want to thank you for the deliverance prayer that You guided me in finding and
the healing and tears that flowed from my heart into Yours. I realize now that the many perils
that I have ensnared myself into are as a result of past traumas and false guilt that i tend to
internalize in trying to inappropriately help or protect others at the cost of my health,
well-being, and other's journey to You. Help me not to sin in this area, that is, sins against
myself. Help me to be strong and not curl under the flood of false shame and guilt. Deliver me
from the core lies and memories and immerse my little wounds into Your perfect wounds on Your
beautiful cross.

The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 24 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by

THE DEVIL AND INTELLECTUAL PRIDE

"Many prophets and kings wished to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it." -Luke 10:24

Because we are Jesus' followers, "demons are subject to us" (Lk 10:17). We can shoot down Satan to fall from the sky like lightning (Lk 10:18). We can "tread on snakes and scorpions and all the forces of the enemy" (Lk 10:19). We can "quickly crush Satan under" our feet (Rm 16:20).

However, few Christians are aware of their authority over the devil or even of their need for that authority. Our authority, as well as other aspects of God's plan of salvation, is "hidden from the learned and the clever," but "revealed to the merest children" (Lk 10:21). Therefore, the learned and the clever sometimes laugh at the supposedly primitive ideas of the common people about the devil. Expect to be scorned if you talk about the devil as if he were real.

The devil is "a liar and the father of lies" (Jn 8:44). He lies about his own existence. He spreads confusion by promoting intellectual pride. This pride is shown in the rejection of traditional Christian teaching and a snobbish attitude toward the way common people think and talk. Nonetheless, what the Church and the Bible have taught for centuries concerning the devil will always be true.


Prayer: Father, I humbly submit myself to the traditional teaching of the Church.

Promise: "The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his earlier ones." -Jb 42:12

Praise: St. Therese was a zealous and dedicated intercessor, and especially devoted herself to pray for priests.

HATE THE SIN AND LOVE THE CHURCH OF SINNERS

"Then Job answered the Lord and said: 'Behold, I am of little account.' " -Job 40:3-4

God's ways and thoughts are as high above our ways and thoughts as the heavens are above the earth (Is 55:8-9). Even the wisest people know nothing compared to God. We all must say with Job: "Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer You? I put my hand over my mouth" (Jb 40:4).

Nevertheless, the infinite, all-holy, almighty Lord has decided to speak through His Church made of weak, limited human beings. Moreover, He amazingly exalts His Church by announcing: "He who hears you, hears Me. He who rejects you, rejects Me. And he who rejects Me, rejects Him Who sent Me" (Lk 10:16). The Lord has made His Church "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15). He has even made the Church His Body (see Eph 1:22-23) and His bride (see Eph 5:25ff). The Lord loves the Church, gave His life for the Church (Eph 5:25), and exalts the Church.

The Lord expects His disciples also to love the Church, live in the Church, and die for the Church. We are naturally turned off when we see the Church so full of sinners. The Church on earth is anything but naturally lovable. Nonetheless, the Holy Spirit graces us to do the humanly impossible - to love a very human Church instituted and exalted by God. Do the required and the impossible. Love the Church.


Prayer: Father, like St. Francis, grace me to love and rebuild the Church.

Promise: "O Lord, You have probed me and You know me; You know when I sit and when I stand; You understand my thoughts from afar." -Ps 139:1-2

Praise: St. Jerome loved sinners so much he promoted Scripture, piety, martyrs, relics, clerical celibacy, and refuted heresies. He fiercely spent his energies for love of God and the Church.

LIVES WHICH NEED ANGELS

Jesus "went on to tell them, 'I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.' " -John 1:51

The Lord loves you perfectly, and He wants to show His love for you by sending Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and other angels to be more active in your life. For angels to be very active in our lives, we must have lives which fit into the job descriptions of archangels and angels. We need lives of discipleship, holiness, and evangelization. We need to love so deeply and courageously that we are worthy of being persecuted. Angels are especially active in helping persecuted Christians (see Acts 12:7ff; 5:19; Lk 22:43). In effect, we need the Holy Spirit to be as active as possible in our lives.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (Jn 14:17). He is "Power from on high" (Lk 24:49; see also Acts 1:8). He produces the fruit of love, joy, and peace (Gal 5:22). Lives teeming with truth, power, and love are occasions made for angels. When the Holy Spirit is moving, Michael wields his sword, Gabriel announces God's message, and Raphael guides and heals. When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, the angelic spirits have a place to work. Come, Holy Spirit!


Prayer: Father, in this Year of Mercy, may archangels and angels need to be extremely active.

Promise: "I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all my heart, for You have heard the words of my mouth; in the presence of the angels I will sing Your praise." -Ps 138:1-2

Praise: St. Gabriel the Archangel was the first creature in recorded history to speak the name of Jesus (Lk 1:31).

QUITE A FOLLOWING

"Someone said to Him, 'I will be Your follower wherever You go.' " -Luke 9:57

The essence of the Christian life is to follow Christ - not on our terms, but on His. In following Him, Jesus calls us to make a total, self-sacrificing commitment - not even to expect a roof over our heads (see Lk 9:58). He also expects an immediate commitment - no delays (see Lk 9:59-61). Finally, following Jesus is forever. When we put our hands to the plow and begin to work for the harvest, we must not look back but persevere (Lk 9:62).

In a world of selfishness, a total, self-sacrificing, immediate, forever commitment seems unreasonable. It is actually trans-reasonable, that is, not against reason but beyond it. The Lord's ways and thoughts are far beyond our ways and thoughts (Is 55:8-9). "He does great things past finding out, marvelous things beyond reckoning" (Jb 9:10). Therefore, to follow the Lord God is to walk in unknown regions and for unknown reasons. Following Jesus is walking by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7).

Why would we give our all to Jesus and not even understand all of what we're doing? Love is the only reason for following Jesus on His terms. Jesus is saying to us now: " 'Follow Me,' if you love Me" (see Jn 21:19).


Prayer: Jesus, may I love You so much that I'll follow You to death.

Promise: "I, O Lord, cry out to You; with my morning prayer I wait upon You." -Ps 88:14

Praise: St. Lawrence Ruiz, husband and father of three, was the first Filipino to be canonized.

LIFE LINES

"Why is light given to the toilers, and life to the bitter in spirit?" -Job 3:20

Nearly all of us can identify in some way with Job's misery. Sometimes life is bitter (Jb 3:20) and full of drudgery (Jb 7:1). Relief eludes us (Jb 3:13), and death seems better than any hidden treasure the future could possibly hold (Jb 3:21). Then it gets worse. We "have forgotten what happiness is" (Lam 3:17; Jb 7:7).

When life is no longer worth living, then we've forgotten what life really is. To be more specific, we've forgotten Who Life is. Jesus is Life (Jn 11:25; 14:6). Because Jesus is Life, our lives are full of meaning, power, and hope, no matter how miserable our circumstances. Because we are alive, we Christians carry in our bodies the life of Jesus (2 Cor 4:10). His life is revealed in our bodies, even though we are being delivered to death (2 Cor 4:11).

Jesus enables us to become better instead of bitter. On the cross, Jesus overcame all the bitterness and misery that ever existed. He understands our pain and misery far better than we do (Heb 2:17-18). Jesus, the Deliverer (Ps 18:3), sometimes rescues us from "the pit" (Ps 40:2-3). If He doesn't rescue us from "the bottom of the pit" (Ps 88:7), then He does something even better: He comes into the pit with us and shares His life with us (Ps 23:4; Mt 1:23, 28:20). We Christians believe that it's far better to be in the pit with Jesus than to be comfortable without Him (see Ps 84:11). With Jesus the Life by our side, we have life "to the full" (Jn 10:10).


Prayer: Jesus, "to me, 'life' means" You (Phil 1:21). Thank You for the gift of my life.

Promise: Jesus "firmly resolved to proceed toward Jerusalem." -Lk 9:51

Praise: St. Vincent, who converted his slavemaster, lived life to the full through his countless acts of generosity and love.
