COME, LORD JESUS, TODAY! (see Rv 22:20)
"Be on guard, therefore. The Son of Man will come when you least expect Him." -Luke 12:40
When we expect the world to end and Jesus to come back at any time, we are:
* on guard against the evil one (see Lk 12:40; 1 Pt 5:8-9),
* trying to be "faithful, farsighted" stewards for the Lord (Lk 12:42),
* busy (Lk 12:43) showing our love for Jesus by feeding His sheep, that is, His people (see Jn 21:15-17; Lk 12:42),
* loving others rather than hurting them (see Lk 12:45), and
* more likely to fight temptations and compulsions (see Lk 12:45).
When we expect Jesus to come back today, we live today probably much more faithfully than we would have otherwise.
Therefore, lift up your eyes to "see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with great power and glory" (Lk 21:27). Proclaim throughout the day: "Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again." Shout with the Christians of all times: "Maranatha!" ("Come, Lord Jesus!") (1 Cor 16:22; Rv 22:20) "See, He comes amid the clouds! Every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him" (Rv 1:7). Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
Prayer: Jesus, as soon as possible "come again in glory to judge the living and the dead" (Nicene Creed).
Promise: "More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted." -Lk 12:48
Praise: The North American missionaries became martyrs by dying as they lived, with and for Christ.

NOT A DOCTORAL THESIS
"I have no one with me but Luke." -2 Timothy 4:11
St. Luke was a doctor (Col 4:14). The Bible commands us to honor doctors, for their profession has been established by God (Sir 38:1). Although Luke had such a distinguished profession (see Sir 38:3), he apparently put it aside in the light of the surpassing knowledge of His Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:8). In the fifty-two chapters of the Bible that Luke compiled (Luke and Acts), there is hardly any indication of him being a doctor. Even when Luke presents Jesus as curing the sick, he does not insert any "doctoral" comments. Rather, he proclaims: "The kingdom of God is at hand" (Lk 10:9, our transl.).
You may likewise be distinguished by your profession, abilities, degrees, or accomplishments. You should thank the Lord for the blessings He has given you, but also be willing to forfeit everything and account all else rubbish so that Christ may be your Wealth (Phil 3:8). Like Luke, you may be called to give up a prestigious position to become an obscure disciple of Jesus. Know, however, that one day in His courts is better than a thousand elsewhere (see Ps 84:11). It is better to "be at the threshold of the house" of God "than dwell in the tents of the wicked" (Ps 84:11). Sell all to buy the precious pearl of God's kingdom (Mt 13:46).
Prayer: Father, may I empty myself as Jesus did (Phil 2:7).
Promise: "The Lord stood by my side and gave me strength, so that through me the preaching task might be completed and all nations might hear the gospel." -2 Tm 4:17
Praise: Writing about the Savior of the world, St. Luke especially emphasized prayer, poverty, and purity of heart.

SAVED FROM AN UNSPEAKABLE HELL
"You were dead." -Ephesians 2:1
We start life "dead in sin" (Eph 2:5), and we buy into death through our "sins and offenses" (Eph 2:1). In this living death (1 Jn 3:14), we are blinded, manipulated, and drafted into giving "allegiance to the present age and to the prince of the air, that spirit who is even now at work among the rebellious" (Eph 2:2). Satan keeps us in line and enslaved by seducing us to live "at the level of the flesh, following every whim and fancy" (Eph 2:3). Thus, certain sins become our very lives (Col 3:7). When we occasionally get glimpses of our lives of death and slavery, we hate ourselves for our addiction to being seduced and abused by the evil one. Then, we lie to ourselves and try to run away from reality by yielding to more seductions and demonic abuse. Thus, our lives deteriorate "through illusion and desire" (Eph 4:22). Of ourselves, we are trapped and doomed to an everlasting hell of being mocked and abused.
"But God is rich in mercy; because of His great love for us He brought us to life with Christ when we were dead in sin. By this favor you were saved" (Eph 2:4-5). Thank You, Jesus, for saving us from an unspeakable hell and saving us for an unimaginable heaven. Thank You, Jesus, our Savior.
Prayer: Father, You loved us so much that You sent Your Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life (Jn 3:16). I believe in Him with all my heart.
Promise: "Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful song." -Ps 100:2
Praise: St. Ignatius wrote: "He Who rose for our sakes is my one Desire."

Jesus, let us be prayer warriors for our bishops, priests, and deacons as they lead us to
You.
Let us truly see that the Catholic church is our guide that directs us to eternal life with
You forever.

Sunday PRAYER LINES

"...the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." -Luke 18:1
Jesus teaches us in today's parable to pray in perseverance for our needs (Lk 18:1). Elsewhere
in Scripture, Jesus reveals more about how to pray always with perseverance and power:
Pray by listening to God (Lk 10:38-42).
Pray in a love-relationship with "Abba" (Mt 6:9; Gal 4:6).
Pray with faith. Jesus is always looking for faith (Lk 18:8).
Pray without ever losing heart, that is, not growing weary and not going through the motions of
prayer (Lk 18:1).
Pray the words of Scripture (2 Tm 3:16). Praying the Word of God has powerful force (Jn 10:35).
Pray in confident power with others (Mt 18:19-20; Acts 4:24-31; Ex 17:8-13).
"Pray in the Spirit" (Eph 6:18) using the spiritual gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit directly
intercedes through us in tongues and helps us in our weakness (Rm 8:26).
Pray without ceasing (1 Thes 5:17).
Observe a young couple in love. They spend day after day in each other's presence without
growing weary of each other. Therefore, ask Jesus to give you a new heart (Ez 36:26) and open it
to receive the love He is pouring out through the Holy Spirit (Rm 5:5). Then your prayer will
grow in love instead of growing weary.
Prayer: Father, may I pray not because I want something from You, but always because I want You.
Promise: "All Scripture is inspired of God and is useful for teaching - for reproof, correction,
and training in holiness." -2 Tm 3:16
Praise: Praise Jesus, crucified and risen Lord. All glory, honor, and praise be to You!

The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 24 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by

Jesus, this week Your church celebrates the feast day of St. Luke the evangelist.
St. Luke wrote two books of the new testament that gives us information about the
workings of the early church.
Help us Jesus, to really pray for our church and especially the leaders of the church.
Jesus, let us be prayer warriors for our bishops, priests, and deacons as they lead us to
You.
Let us truly see that the Catholic church is our guide that directs us to eternal life with
You forever.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday PRAYER LINES

"...the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." -Luke 18:1
Jesus teaches us in today's parable to pray in perseverance for our needs (Lk 18:1). Elsewhere
in Scripture, Jesus reveals more about how to pray always with perseverance and power:
Pray by listening to God (Lk 10:38-42).
Pray in a love-relationship with "Abba" (Mt 6:9; Gal 4:6).
Pray with faith. Jesus is always looking for faith (Lk 18:8).
Pray without ever losing heart, that is, not growing weary and not going through the motions of
prayer (Lk 18:1).
Pray the words of Scripture (2 Tm 3:16). Praying the Word of God has powerful force (Jn 10:35).
Pray in confident power with others (Mt 18:19-20; Acts 4:24-31; Ex 17:8-13).
"Pray in the Spirit" (Eph 6:18) using the spiritual gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit directly
intercedes through us in tongues and helps us in our weakness (Rm 8:26).
Pray without ceasing (1 Thes 5:17).
Observe a young couple in love. They spend day after day in each other's presence without
growing weary of each other. Therefore, ask Jesus to give you a new heart (Ez 36:26) and open it
to receive the love He is pouring out through the Holy Spirit (Rm 5:5). Then your prayer will
grow in love instead of growing weary.
Prayer: Father, may I pray not because I want something from You, but always because I want You.
Promise: "All Scripture is inspired of God and is useful for teaching - for reproof, correction,
and training in holiness." -2 Tm 3:16
Praise: Praise Jesus, crucified and risen Lord. All glory, honor, and praise be to You!

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 24 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

LOVING THE MOST DEPRIVED - One Bread, One Body, 10/15/2016

LOVING THE MOST DEPRIVED
"I tell you, whoever acknowledges Me before men - the Son of Man will acknowledge him before the angels of God." -Luke 12:8
Several billion people desperately need to be introduced to Jesus, the only Way, Truth, Life (Jn 14:6), Savior (Acts 4:12), and God. The most deprived people in the world are those who have not come to know, love, and worship Jesus. Until we give our lives to Jesus, we have not begun to fully live.
Consequently, because life in Christ is most important, and because God Who is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16) wants the best for everyone, the Lord must insist that we acknowledge Him before men. He must hold us accountable if we don't acknowledge Him (Lk 12:8-10). To strongly encourage us to invite others to live for Jesus, the Lord even promised to send the Holy Spirit, Who will teach us "all that should be said" at the moment when we are sharing our faith (Lk 12:12).
All we need is faith and love, and the Lord must and will make us great evangelizers and missionaries. Therefore, because we believe in Jesus and because we love the most deprived people in the world, let us center our lives around sharing our faith. In love, what else can we do?
Prayer: Father, may love impel me to speak of Your love (see 2 Cor 5:14). May I never be ashamed of Jesus and His Gospel (Rm 1:16).
Promise: "May He enlighten your innermost vision that you may know the great hope to which He has called you, the wealth of His glorious heritage to be distributed among the members of the Church, and the immeasurable scope of His power in us who believe." -Eph 1:18-19
Praise: St. Teresa chose religious life because she knew how prone to sin she was. She prayed daily for the coming of the Holy Spirit in her life.

BAPTISMAL "RICHNESS AND RESPONSIBILITY"
"In [Christ] we were chosen." -Ephesians 1:11
We Christians have been baptized into Jesus and, consequently, into His death and Resurrection (Rm 6:3-4). We have been baptized into Jesus and into His priesthood, prophetic ministry, and kingship (see 1 Pt 2:9). "In [Christ] we were chosen" (Eph 1:11; see also 1:13). In and with Him, we are heirs of God's kingdom (Rm 8:17; see also Eph 1:14). Baptized into Christ, we inherit the grace to be holy, pure, and free.
The ramifications of our Baptisms are so monumental and plentiful that we will spend eternity better appreciating "the radical newness of the Christian life that comes from Baptism" (Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People, Pope St. John Paul II, 10; see also Rm 6:3). Therefore, the bishops of the 1987 Synod recommended to baptized Catholics "a post-baptismal catechesis in the form of a catechumenate...with the purpose of allowing a person to grasp and live the immense, extraordinary richness and responsibility received at Baptism" (Lay Members, 61).
Our Baptisms are the basis for God's greatest gifts to us. This extraordinary richness gives us extraordinary responsibility. If we do not fully develop our Baptisms, we are seriously failing in stewardship. "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48). Fully develop your Baptism.
Prayer: Father, I renew my baptismal promises as never before.
Promise: "Fear nothing, then." -Lk 12:7
Praise: Pope St. Callistus made enemies by being merciful to sinners.

BAPTISMAL "RICHNESS AND RESPONSIBILITY"
"In [Christ] we were chosen." -Ephesians 1:11
We Christians have been baptized into Jesus and, consequently, into His death and Resurrection (Rm 6:3-4). We have been baptized into Jesus and into His priesthood, prophetic ministry, and kingship (see 1 Pt 2:9). "In [Christ] we were chosen" (Eph 1:11; see also 1:13). In and with Him, we are heirs of God's kingdom (Rm 8:17; see also Eph 1:14). Baptized into Christ, we inherit the grace to be holy, pure, and free.
The ramifications of our Baptisms are so monumental and plentiful that we will spend eternity better appreciating "the radical newness of the Christian life that comes from Baptism" (Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People, Pope St. John Paul II, 10; see also Rm 6:3). Therefore, the bishops of the 1987 Synod recommended to baptized Catholics "a post-baptismal catechesis in the form of a catechumenate...with the purpose of allowing a person to grasp and live the immense, extraordinary richness and responsibility received at Baptism" (Lay Members, 61).
Our Baptisms are the basis for God's greatest gifts to us. This extraordinary richness gives us extraordinary responsibility. If we do not fully develop our Baptisms, we are seriously failing in stewardship. "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48). Fully develop your Baptism.
Prayer: Father, I renew my baptismal promises as never before.
Promise: "Fear nothing, then." -Lk 12:7
Praise: Pope St. Callistus made enemies by being merciful to sinners.
