FISHIN' HOLE
"Go out into the highways and along the hedgerows and force them to come in. I want My house to be full." -Luke 14:23
God wants His house to be full for His heavenly banquet (Lk 14:23). His strategy for filling His house is to send His servants all over His kingdom, especially to the byroads (Mt 22:9), alleys (Lk 14:21), and other unlikely places. Thus, God's banquet will only be filled if His servants "come upon" (Mt 22:9) people that are hard to catch up with.
Jesus understands this dilemma. That's why He specifically calls His servants "fishers of men" (Mt 4:19). Any fisherman who wants to bring home a catch knows that he will probably not easily "come upon" large numbers of fish; rather, he must learn "how to cope with every circumstance" (Phil 4:12). He knows that he must study the habits of the fish and spend much time, effort, and frustration learning their favorite feeding places and times. A leisurely midday fishing trip might be convenient for the fisherman, but he will likely bring home an empty boat. His best catch might come before dawn, in freezing weather, in dangerous waters, or after many unsuccessful attempts. The main question is: Will the fisherman take the trouble to "come upon" the fish?
Politicians, salespeople, telemarketers, and researchers understand this concept clearly. Their daring boldness in reaching the unreachable leads to success in their ventures. Followers of Jesus, "open your eyes and see! The fields are shining for harvest!" (Jn 4:35) There's a house to be filled. Bring them in (Lk 14:21).
Prayer: Father, I will take the appropriate initiative to reach the people You want me to come upon (Lk 16:8).
Promise: "Do not grow slack but be fervent in spirit; He Whom you serve is the Lord." -Rm 12:11

MISERY OR MYSTERY?
"...how inscrutable His judgments, how unsearchable His ways!" -Romans 11:33
The Lord has said: "My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways" (Is 55:8). That we are so different than God is initially seen as a problem. We even wish that God was more like us. However, if we joyfully accept God's transcendence and mystery, we can begin to look behind the worst situations and see the hand of God. This fills us with hope rather than discouragement.
For example, what if you invited several poor and handicapped people to dinner but never received any invitations to their homes? Here you are - lonely, eating by yourself, and feeling sorry for yourself. Yet if you have the mind of God (see 1 Cor 2:16), you begin to rejoice, for you see that you are in a wonderful situation in which "you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just" (Lk 14:14).
What if you are like St. Paul, in "great grief and constant pain" because your nation is alienated from God? (Rm 9:2) The Lord, however, can enlighten the eyes of your heart (Eph 1:18) to see that He is working together for the good even in the worst circumstances (Rm 8:28).
When we see even the worst of things in God's way, we exclaim: "How deep are the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How inscrutable His judgments, how unsearchable His ways!...For from Him and through Him and for Him all things are. To Him be glory forever. Amen" (Rm 11:33, 36).
Prayer: Father, fill me with joy because of Your mystery.
Promise: "God's gifts and His call are irrevocable." -Rm 11:29

PM eNewsletter 31st Sunday in ordinary time
November 5th 31st Sunday in ordinary time.
Lord God, we are now in a time of year where we have good days, cold days, and in some
areas snowy days.
Jesus, isn't this just the way we are also.
Sometimes our feelings to You are very good, and sometimes really cool to You, and
sometimes just a mess.
Christ, please continue to shower us with grace to focus on You, and You alone.
Please keep us from getting bogged down with life, and forget to give You all the praise
and glory.
Keep us mindful that only in You, will we ever have rest.
Jesus, open our hearts, mind, and souls, to feel Your love, and to sense Your presence
with us at all times.
Christ, keep us truly focused on You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday PRIESTLY PEOPLE

"And now, O priests, this commandment is for you." -Malachi 2:1
"The lips of the priest are to keep knowledge, and instruction is to be sought from his
mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts" (Mal 2:7). When priests do not
properly exercise their God-given ministry of teaching, they cause "many to falter" by
their instruction (Mal 2:8). Then the Lord, in order to protect His people, tries to
correct His priests by turning their blessings into curses (Mal 2:2) and by making the
priests "contemptible and base before all the people" (Mal 2:9).
If you are a baptized Christian, you are a priest (1 Pt 2:9; Rv 5:10; Catechism, 783,
1241, 1546). Therefore, the words of God through Malachi apply to you. St. Thomas Aquinas
taught: "To teach in order to lead others to faith is the task of every preacher and of
each believer" (quoted in Catechism, 904).
What are you teaching others by your conversation and way of living? Do you know your
faith so as to be able to teach it rightly and fully? Do you know the teachings of the
Church? Have you read the Catechism? Have you ever read one of the Pope's encyclicals?
How well do you know the Bible? Have you even tried to learn it? Do you look for
opportunities to share your faith? Have you ever invited someone to give his life to
Jesus? Could you explain the Mass to those asking questions about it? "I charge you to
preach the word, to stay with this task whether convenient or inconvenient - correcting,
reproving, appealing - constantly teaching" (2 Tm 4:2).
Prayer: Father, make me hungry for Your Word and not spiritually anorexic.
Promise: "We thank God constantly that in receiving His message from us you took it, not
as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God at work within you who believe."
-1 Thes 2:13
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, eternal High Priest (see Heb 7:24).

For my wife's mental, emotional, physical healing so that she understands the value of Holy
Matrimony, forgiveness, confession, eucharist, motherhood, being a devoted self-giving
Christian Wife and respect marital obligations. For Jessy my wife to be healed at once in the
name of Jesus Christ our Lord and have our marriage healed, reconciled and our home filled
with eternal peace. I pray for my wife's purity of mind, body and soul and for the Lord God
to wash her head to toe inside out and seal her with the precious blood.

I do not need a perfect life, just a life knowing God is with me through all of it. Pray that
I feel God's love, know God's peace, God's strength, protection and comfort - please God bring
peace to my husband's and my troubled souls. Some financial relief would help. Please hear my
prayer and the prayers of all the faithful. I ask this through Christ our Lord .. Amen -

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 26 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer

I do not need a perfect life, just a life knowing God is with me through all of it. Pray that
I feel God's love, know God's peace, God's strength, protection and comfort - please God bring

The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 26 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the

PRIESTLY PEOPLE
"And now, O priests, this commandment is for you." -Malachi 2:1
"The lips of the priest are to keep knowledge, and instruction is to be sought from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts" (Mal 2:7). When priests do not properly exercise their God-given ministry of teaching, they cause "many to falter" by their instruction (Mal 2:8). Then the Lord, in order to protect His people, tries to correct His priests by turning their blessings into curses (Mal 2:2) and by making the priests "contemptible and base before all the people" (Mal 2:9).
If you are a baptized Christian, you are a priest (1 Pt 2:9; Rv 5:10; Catechism, 783, 1241, 1546). Therefore, the words of God through Malachi apply to you. St. Thomas Aquinas taught: "To teach in order to lead others to faith is the task of every preacher and of each believer" (quoted in Catechism, 904).
What are you teaching others by your conversation and way of living? Do you know your faith so as to be able to teach it rightly and fully? Do you know the teachings of the Church? Have you read the Catechism? Have you ever read one of the Pope's encyclicals? How well do you know the Bible? Have you even tried to learn it? Do you look for opportunities to share your faith? Have you ever invited someone to give his life to Jesus? Could you explain the Mass to those asking questions about it? "I charge you to preach the word, to stay with this task whether convenient or inconvenient - correcting, reproving, appealing - constantly teaching" (2 Tm 4:2).
Prayer: Father, make me hungry for Your Word and not spiritually anorexic.
Promise: "We thank God constantly that in receiving His message from us you took it, not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God at work within you who believe." -1 Thes 2:13
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, eternal High Priest (see Heb 7:24).

DOUBLE-AGENTS
"In respect to the gospel, the Jews are enemies of God for your sake; in respect to the election, they are beloved by Him because of the patriarchs." -Romans 11:28
An old saying says God writes straight with crooked lines. "God makes all things work together for the good of those who love" Him (Rm 8:28). God is omnipotent; so He even uses His enemies to further His plan (Prv 16:4). For example, Joseph's brothers heartlessly abandoned him in a cistern (Gn 37:24). As a result, he was forced to spend years in Egypt as a slave and then a prisoner. Yet God brought Joseph out of prison to lead Egypt through a time of severe famine. Joseph later told his brothers: "Even though you meant harm to me, God meant it for good, to achieve his present end, the survival of many people" (Gn 50:20).
God even uses man's direct opposition to advance His plan. Certain Jewish leaders were "opposing the Holy Spirit" (Acts 7:51) by condemning Stephen and stoning him to death. Yet God immediately used this tragedy to spread His Word "throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria" (Acts 8:1) and soon even to the ends of the earth (see Acts 1:8).
Many first-century Jews did not accept Jesus as Messiah and Lord. It seemed the ministry of Jesus to His people (see Mt 15:24) failed. Yet God turned even this failure to triumph. The unbelief of certain Jewish leaders caused Paul to turn to the Gentiles, who "responded to the word of the Lord with praise" (Acts 13:48).
Place your trust in the Father's love, power, and ability. He is supreme and sovereign. "Therefore do not be perturbed" by circumstances, no matter how horrible. "Remain calm" and trust in your heavenly Father (1 Pt 4:7).
Prayer: Father, I put my life in Your hands (see Ps 31:6).
Promise: "Your kindness, O Lord, sustains me." -Ps 94:18
Praise: St. Charles showed heroic charity during a plague in Milan.

I'M DYING TO BE SAVED
"Directly in front of Him was a man who suffered from dropsy." -Luke 14:2
The Pharisees invited Jesus to dine on a sabbath. Then they set Jesus up for a conflict by placing an obviously ill man directly in front of Him, daring Jesus to heal on a sabbath. The ill man was not a guest at the supper. This is clearly indicated by the action of Jesus in sending him home after he was healed (Lk 14:4), mercifully sending him home to spare him further humiliation and isolation. The Pharisees manipulated and used this man suffering from dropsy; Jesus healed him and set him free.
Jesus then suffered and died so that those who deceitfully trapped and cornered Him could be saved. St. Paul stated that he would willingly be separated from Christ for eternity if the Jews, those who tormented him for so many years, could be saved (Rm 9:3). Jewish leaders hunted Paul down, falsely accused him, and tried to tear him to pieces (see Acts 23:10). Yet Paul could even wish to be separated from Christ forever so that they could be saved.
This is the mind of Christ: to die for enemies (Mt 5:44ff), to give up your life for them (Rm 5:8). Even while your enemies plot against you, be like Jesus. Think only of how much you want them to be saved. Be willing to suffer for love of sinful enemies.
Prayer: Father, give me the faith and love to zealously share my faith in You.
Promise: Jesus "took the man, healed him, and sent him on his way." -Lk 14:4
Praise: St. Martin received the grace to forgive those who hurled racial insults at him when he prayed before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

THE BIBLE ON PRAYING FOR THE DEAD - One Bread, One Body, 11/2/2017

THE BIBLE ON PRAYING FOR THE DEAD
"If before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality." -Wisdom 3:4
It is a holy and pious thought to pray for the dead (2 Mc 12:44-45). Because those in heaven or in hell don't benefit from our prayers, this implies that not everyone immediately goes to heaven or hell after they die. Therefore, when we pray for the dead, we must be praying for people in some other place, usually called purgatory. It is a place of purging and purification.
In the New Testament, the Lord suggests the existence of some place other than heaven or hell. Jesus went to "preach to the spirits in prison," who "had disobeyed as long ago as Noah's day" (1 Pt 3:19, 20; see also 1 Pt 4:6). These passages may refer to a place after death other than heaven or hell, but we don't know if this place still exists. Paul mentioned the Corinthians' practice of having themselves baptized on behalf of the dead (1 Cor 15:29). The most likely translation of this passage implies there is some place other than heaven or hell.
Jesus taught that the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven "in this age or in the age to come" (Mt 12:32). Does this suggest that some sins can be forgiven after death? If so, there must be a place after death other than heaven or hell.
We know from early Christian art that the Church of New Testament times prayed for the dead. We should do likewise, for it is a holy and pious thought to pray for the dead and an act of faith in the resurrection of the dead.
Prayer: "Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through Your mercy, rest in peace. Amen."
Promise: "Everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life." -Jn 6:40
Praise: Missy, a teenager, has a special devotion to the souls in purgatory and prays for them daily.

THE BIBLE ON PRAYING FOR THE DEAD
"If before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality." -Wisdom 3:4
It is a holy and pious thought to pray for the dead (2 Mc 12:44-45). Because those in heaven or in hell don't benefit from our prayers, this implies that not everyone immediately goes to heaven or hell after they die. Therefore, when we pray for the dead, we must be praying for people in some other place, usually called purgatory. It is a place of purging and purification.
In the New Testament, the Lord suggests the existence of some place other than heaven or hell. Jesus went to "preach to the spirits in prison," who "had disobeyed as long ago as Noah's day" (1 Pt 3:19, 20; see also 1 Pt 4:6). These passages may refer to a place after death other than heaven or hell, but we don't know if this place still exists. Paul mentioned the Corinthians' practice of having themselves baptized on behalf of the dead (1 Cor 15:29). The most likely translation of this passage implies there is some place other than heaven or hell.
Jesus taught that the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven "in this age or in the age to come" (Mt 12:32). Does this suggest that some sins can be forgiven after death? If so, there must be a place after death other than heaven or hell.
