PUTTING WORDS IN OUR MOUTHS

"Because He spoke this way, many came to believe in Him." -John 8:30

More than anything else in the world, we want people to believe in Jesus. Therefore, we're interested in understanding what John meant when he said that many people believed in Jesus because He spoke in a certain way. What is "this way of speaking" that leads many to believe?
* Jesus claimed to be God. Three times He called Himself I AM, the Jewish name for God (Jn 8:24, 28, 58).
* Jesus spoke of God as the Father and spoke of His unity with the Father (Jn 8:27-29).
* Jesus bluntly told the people that they would die in their sins unless they believed in His divinity (Jn 8:21, 24).
* Jesus confronted sinners with their sinfulness but did not condemn them (Jn 8:26).

Jesus focused on God's Fatherhood, His own divinity, and our sinfulness. He spoke boldly and bluntly with a "tough love." This way of speaking led many to believe in Him (Jn 8:30).

How should we speak in Jesus' name? We must focus on God the Father and the divinity of Jesus, be bold and blunt, confront but not condemn. How many are believing in Jesus because of the way we speak? Jesus did not speak on His own. The Father commanded Him "what to say and how to speak" (Jn 12:49). We too should speak just as God instructs us (see Jn 12:50).

Prayer: Father, may I "only tell the world what I have heard" from You (Jn 8:26).

Promise: "Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered." -Nm 21:9

Praise: Maria listened to the promptings of the Spirit as she proclaimed Jesus, her First Love.

JESUS MAKES IT RIGHT FOR ALL

"Nor do I condemn you. You may go." -John 8:11

Today's Gospel account focuses on the woman caught in adultery, and Jesus refusing to condemn her. What about this woman's husband and children? Did anyone consider the impact upon their suddenly shattered lives? Did anyone care that they too were in pain? What about the parents of the adulteress and the grief and shame they now had to bear? How about the wife and children of the "missing partner"? The damage caused by sexual sin is widespread and lasting. It doesn't get repaired just because the person who committed the sexual sin receives forgiveness.

For those who have been innocently victimized by the sexual sins of others, today's Gospel can be difficult to read. You see Jesus compassionately protect the sexual sinner, and it can seem like He has forgotten to address your damages. Be assured that Jesus has an answer for you as well. He offers you justice. Jesus is your Justice (1 Cor 1:30). You are a victim; Jesus became a Victim on your behalf. You need healing. Jesus is your Healer (Hos 11:4). He alone can heal everyone impacted by sexual sin. Perhaps Jesus was even thinking of you and your hurting loved ones when He drew on the ground with His finger (Jn 8:6).

Maybe you haven't been victimized by sexual sin, but you are still impacted by these sins. You are forced to live in a culture dominated by rampant impurity. Every day, this culture bombards you with its messages and tries to pressure you or your children to sin. Sexual sin is not private; it degrades entire cultures. Jesus alone has the power to forgive sin, reverse it, and even transform it to the good (see Rm 8:28). Where sin abounds, His grace abounds all the more (Rm 5:20). Put your trust in Him.

Prayer: Jesus, increase our faith in Your ability to heal and love.

Promise: "The whole assembly cried aloud, blessing God Who saves those that hope in Him." -Dn 13:60

Praise: St. Stanislaus lost his life for his brave, uncompromising stance for God.

Jesus, next week we are going to be in Passion week.

Lord, help us to prepare now for this week that shows us how much You love us.

Help us see that You love us so much that You came to do the fathers will and
become the perfect spotless lamb of God for the forgiveness of all sin forever.

Jesus, the love that You have for us is so great that we can barely, not only
understand it, but give You adoration and love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday RAISING THE DEAD AND RAISING FAITH

"Whoever believes in Me, though he should die, will come to life; and whoever is
alive and believes in Me will never die." -John 11:26

Most people want to be present at the deathbed of people they love, but Jesus
said He was glad not to have been present when His friend Lazarus died. Jesus
was glad not to have prevented Lazarus' death. Jesus was concerned about
something more important than death - faith (Jn 11:15). Jesus promised victory
over death for those who have faith in Him (Jn 11:26). He challenged Martha:
"Do you believe?" (Jn 11:26) She responded: "I have come to believe that You
are the Messiah, the Son of God" (Jn 11:27). Jesus promised that Martha would
see God's glory, if she believed (Jn 11:40). Jesus prayed aloud for the sake of the
crowd that they might believe (Jn 11:42). After Jesus raised Lazarus from the
dead, many of the Jews "put their faith" in Jesus (Jn 11:45).

We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). "All depends on faith" (Rm 4:16).
Without faith, we cannot please God (Heb 11:6). Therefore, two weeks from today
on Easter Sunday or Easter Vigil in union with every Mass in the world, make the
greatest act of faith in your life by renewing your baptismal promises. Completely
submit your intellect and will to the Lord (Catechism, 143). Give your whole life to
Him. "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).

Dear lord jesus only you can remove the bitterness and hatred that has entered
my heart due to my adult daughter using me (and her father)to watch our
grandson since birth to age 2 so she could work fulltime, go tanning,have
manicures, go shopping, runerrands & to go out to 'clubs,etc.'Once confronted
about her 'sinful lifestyle' 3/17-she has kept our grandson from us and now
enrolled him in fulltime daycare 'to get even' with us for not condoning her to
do as she pleases.(she does not live with us but lives with people of
questionable character-nearly our age (50's) who are wealthy. daughter
worships the dollar bill and all that goes with it. ) we cannot comprehend her
animosity towards us or her cruelty.

Please pray for my friend & I to become closer if it is God's Will, that we can talk
regularly; as we continue to cross paths in this life, both Catholic, & such similar
circumstances. I think we both want to be closer and would make wonderful

for their Faith around the world. For Peace! For all falsely accused! For the 40
Days for LIFE Campaign and an end to abortion! For the ND88! For all abused
and abandon children, especially those at BOYSTOWN.

COWARDICE AND APATHY

"Do not tell us you too have been taken in!" -John 7:46

The temple guards were very impressed with Jesus. They said: "No man ever spoke like that before" (Jn 7:46). Nicodemus knew Jesus was a Teacher Who came from God (Jn 3:2), and wanted to give Him a fair hearing (Jn 7:50ff). The chief priests and Pharisees admitted that many of the common people believed in Jesus (Jn 7:49). The apostles, especially Peter (Mt 26:35) and Thomas (Jn 11:16), said they would die for Jesus. Even Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator, admitted openly that Jesus was innocent (Mt 27:24). Furthermore, Pilate's wife warned her husband not to condemn Jesus (Mt 27:19).

How was Jesus condemned to death by crucifixion with so many people on His side? Cowardice and apathy were two main factors which put Jesus on the cross. It's the same today. Few people want the evils of abortion, pornography, homosexual activity, racism, and starvation, yet thousands of lives are destroyed and warped daily.

How can so much evil exist with so many good people? It's because of cowardice and apathy. Repent!

Prayer: Father, this Lent help me repent in a deeper way than ever before.

Promise: "O Lord, my God, in You I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me." -Ps 7:2

Praise: Each month, several youths regularly gather together to pray the rosary in front of a local abortion chamber.

NOT WELCOME IN HIS OWN HOME

"After this, Jesus moved about within Galilee. He had decided not to travel in Judea because some of the Jews were looking for a chance to kill Him." -John 7:1

Why was Jesus, the Holy One, traveling about in "heathen Galilee" (Mt 4:15), the pagan territory? It was because His life was in danger in the "holy" territory. Jesus had decided not to travel in the "churchy" area of Judea and Jerusalem, because some of the Jews there were looking for a chance to kill Him. These religious folks did have their eyes fixed on Jesus (Heb 12:2) - not to exalt Him, but to eliminate Him. All the while, these folks were busily carrying out their religious activities, such as the holy Feast of Booths (Jn 7:2). They gave Jesus outward lip-service (Mk 7:6), but internally they found Him "obnoxious" (Wis 2:12) and so kept Him out of their worship.

It is likely that some of us are also deeply involved in religious activities. Accordingly, we must constantly "examine [ourselves]" (2 Cor 13:5). Are we, who reside in the holy territory, the ones among whom Jesus can do the least good? Are we giving Jesus lip-service, but working to keep Him out of "our" ministries for fear He might take control? Are we pillars of the Church but "always opposing the Holy Spirit"? (Acts 7:51) Could it be that we are keeping Jesus away rather than rolling out the welcome mat for Him?

Prayer: Jesus, show me anything in my life that might be stifling the Holy Spirit (1 Thes 5:19) and driving You away.

Promise: "Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the Lord delivers him." -Ps 34:20

Praise: It was through a continuing family trauma that Lisa came to deeply realize God's faithfulness.

I DESIRE MERCY

"Then He spoke of exterminating them, but Moses, His chosen one, withstood Him in the breach to turn back His destructive wrath." -Psalm 106:23

The scene described in Psalm 106:23 above might leave the impression that God is angry, vengeful, and eager to punish. A more complete interpretation is that God is perfectly just. Sins, both personal and national, have harmful effects on innocent people and nations. Justice demands that these wrongs to humanity and civilization be righted. The justice of God also demands that reparation be made for the wrong He Himself has suffered from the sins of humanity. However, God delights in mercy (Mi 7:18) and is more eager to give mercy than we are to receive it. Not only that, but Jesus Himself intercedes for us and for nations (1 Jn 2:1). Sadly, many have prevented themselves and others from receiving God's mercy (see Mt 23:13).

The Lord declares: "The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they afflict the poor and the needy, and oppress the resident alien without justice. Thus I have searched among them for someone who could build a wall or stand in the breach before Me to keep Me from destroying the land; but I found no one" (Ez 22:29-30). This passage reveals a God Who wants His justice to be won over by an appeal to His mercy. Yet who is willing to pay the price of appealing for God's mercy and standing in the breach to intercede on behalf of a sinful world? The Lord desires mercy (Mt 9:13). Do we desire mercy enough to stand in the breach and intercede for it?

Prayer: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Promise: "The Lord relented in the punishment He had threatened to inflict on His people." -Ex 32:14

Praise: St. John gave up a life of privilege in order to minister to physically as well as spiritually impoverished boys.
