WHAT MATTERS TO GOD (Lk 12:21)
"...instead of growing rich in what matters to God."—Luke 12:21, RNAB
Jesus instructed the crowds to grow rich in what matters to God (Lk 12:21). How can we know what matters to God?
Through His Word, God has shown us what matters to Him:
- love of God and love of neighbor (Lk 10:27).
- mercy rather than sacrifice (Mt 9:13). Mercy matters greatly to God, for He is “rich in mercy” (Eph 2:4).
- “justice and the love of God” (Lk 11:42), particularly for the poor, orphaned, and widowed (Gal 2:10; Jas 1:27).
- “obedient faith” (Rm 1:5).
- worship in spirit and truth (Jn 4:23-24).
- that we all be one in Christ (Jn 17:21; cf 1 Cor 1:10).
- holiness (1 Pt 1:16) and purity (1 Jn 3:3).
- life to the full (Jn 10:10).
- eternal life (Jn 3:16).
You matter to God so much that Jesus suffered and died so you could be saved for eternal life with Him. Study the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to learn more about what matters to God. God sent Jesus to us to reveal what He considers important so that we might be prepared for Judgment Day. Grow rich in what matters to God, so you can spend eternity with Him.
Prayer: Father, may I spend this life both growing rich in what matters to You and in obeying Your will.
Promise: "It is owing to [God's] favor that salvation is yours through faith." —Eph 2:8
Praise: Josh and Alice expressed their faith in Jesus by adopting several children.
