LIFE IS WORSHIP

"The following are the festivals of the Lord, My feast days, which you
shall celebrate with a sacred assembly." —Leviticus 23:2

The Israelites were a worshipping people. They celebrated the Passover for
seven days, and Pentecost, New Year's Day, the Day of Atonement, and the
Feast of Booths for eight days. Counting travel time, the Israelites would
spend over a month of the year in communal worship. The Lord did not call
the Israelites to fit worshipping Him into their daily life, but to fit
their daily activity into their worship. The Lord called the Israelites to
live for worship.

In the new covenant, God's emphasis on worship is even greater. The Father
is seeking authentic worshippers who will worship Him in Spirit and truth
(Jn 4:23). He created and re-created us to worship Him. Our bodies, minds,
and spirits are custom-made to worship the Lord. Almost all of our earthly
activities will soon pass away, but worship is forever.

Begin to make communal worship not part of your life, but your entire
life. Celebrate Mass daily or as often as possible. Center your life on
celebrating Sunday each week. Praise God vocally, silently, individually,
communally, daily, in song, and in tongues. Consider praying the psalms
daily according to the pattern of the Liturgy of the Hours. Celebrate the
holy days and feast days of the Church. Praise and worship the Lord!

Prayer: Father, increase my love for You so much that I overflow with
worship (see Lk 6:45).

Promise: "Where did this Man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?" —Mt
13:54

Praise: St. Ignatius founded the Jesuit order. His work bore such fruit
that, in his own lifetime, the Jesuits grew to over one thousand priests.

Thankfulness

Source: J. John

Matthew Henry, a Bible scholar who lived 1662-1714, was once accosted by
thieves and robbed. He wrote these words in his diary regarding his
experience: "Let me be thankful first because I was never robbed before;
second, because although they took my purse, they did not take my life;
third, because although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth
because it was I who was robbed, and not someone else."

I must confess I didn't have a similar attitude when we were burgled,
although I did pray that the burglars would be convicted, that they would
repent and that they'd return the stolen goods. Unfortunately, I'm still
waiting!

Martin Rinkert lived in the town of Eilenburg in Germany 350 years ago. The
son of a poor coppersmith, he became a minister of his local parish in 1617.
Just one year later, in 1618, the Thirty-Year War broke out and Eilenburg
was caught right in the middle of it. In 1637, the plague that swept across
the continent hit Eilenburg and it is recorded that over 50 people died each
day. The man called upon to bury most of the corpses was Martin Rinkert. In
all, over 8,000 people died, including Martin's own wife, but his job was to
keep on digging graves. His ministry spanned 32 years and all but the first
and the last were overwhelmed by the great conflict that engulfed his town.
It must have been tough for Martin Rinkert to be thankful. But somehow he
was. After all, how could he manage to write this hymn?

"Now thank we all our God
With heart and hands and voices;
Who wondrous things hath done,
In whom his world rejoices."

In the midst of terrible darkness and death Martin Rinkert was able to write
these words because he knew what it meant to be truly thankful. Thankfulness
is not about what we've been given - it's an attitude of gratitude.

Let us be thankful EVERY day and join in with the Psalmist who wrote:

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks
to him, bless his name. For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures
forever, and his faithfulness to all generations." Psalm 100 v 4-5

Let's not be like the nine lepers in Luke 17 (verses 11-19) who were
miraculously cured, but who forgot to return to say 'Thank you'. "Didn't I
heal ten men?" Jesus asked. "Where are the other nine? Has no one returned
to give glory to God except this foreigner?" Jesus was clearly outraged that
these men had not had the heart to express a little gratitude. In Colossians
3:16-18, the apostle Paul tells us: "Let the message about Christ, in all
its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the
wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with
thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father." Clearly, we
are expected to be grateful for both big and small blessings in our lives.

IN HIS PRESENCE - One Bread, One Body, 7/30/2009

IN HIS PRESENCE

"Then the cloud covered the meeting tent, and the glory of the Lord filled
the Dwelling." —Exodus 40:34

In the Old Testament, Moses pitched a tent for God (Ex 40:18-19). In the
New Testament, God became a human being and pitched His own tent (Jn 1:14
in the original Greek). Therefore, in the New Testament we have a much
greater opportunity to be deeply and intimately in the presence of God.

In the Old Testament, the focal point of God's presence moved. To stay
centered on God's presence, the Israelites had to move every time the
cloud which hovered over God's tent moved (Ex 40:36). In the New
Testament, God's presence is so strong that we don't have to follow the
cloud. Instead, as witnesses to Jesus, we are the cloud (see Heb 12:1). We
are immersed in God's presence, which is immersed in us. He lives in us
and we live in Him (Jn 6:56). The curtain between us and the sanctuary has
been torn open by Jesus on Calvary (Mt 27:51). We are in the Holy of
Holies. Our prayers rise like incense into God's throne (Rv 5:8). We are
citizens of heaven, and from there we await Jesus' final coming (Phil
3:20).

Many Christians are surprised to hear that God's presence on earth is so
strong and that we already experience in some way God's heavenly presence.
Many people, even Christians, feel far away from God. To change this,
"draw close to God, and He will draw close to you. Cleanse your hands, you
sinners; purify your hearts" (Jas 4:8). When we repent and are purified,
our awareness of God's presence will be restored.

Prayer: Father, may I be always aware of Your presence.

Promise: "Every scribe who is learned in the reign of God is like the head
of a household who can bring from his storeroom both the new and the
old." —Mt 13:52

Praise: St. Peter Chrysologus preached, "He has made you in His image that
you might in your person make the invisible Creator present on Earth."

PO' FOLKS

"Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him to her
home." —Luke 10:38

Martha should be the patroness of those dedicated to serving the poor. We
need Martha and all the help we can get because serving the poor is much
more difficult than it seems. When we help the poor, we may be either
helping them stay trapped in the cycle of poverty or helping them go free.
Sometimes it's difficult to know the difference.

We can learn three things from Martha's relationship with Jesus to help us
truly serve the poor. First, Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the
better part; that is, sitting at Jesus' feet and listening to His words
(Lk 10:39). If we rely only on our own understanding (see Prv 3:5) or
merely adapt typical approaches to serving the poor, we may unknowingly
promote poverty rather than fight it. We must face the fact that we often
don't know what we are doing in serving the poor. We must seek God's will.
Second, Martha's hands-on, personal, home-based hospitality is the
Biblical model for serving the poor. This should be preferred to the
institutional model. Third, authentic service to the poor means meeting a
person's greatest need: the need to personally know, love, and serve
Jesus.

We must love the poor enough to proclaim to them Jesus' words to Martha:
"I am the Resurrection and the Life: whoever believes in Me, though he
should die, will come to life; and whoever is alive and believes in Me
will never die. Do you believe this?" (Jn 11:25-26)

Prayer: Father, use me to feed and free many materially poor people.

Promise: "Your brother will rise again." —Jn 11:23

Praise: St. Martha told Jesus, "Yes, I do believe" (see Jn 11:27). She
"welcomed [Jesus] to her home" (Lk 10:38).

FIELD OF DREAMS? - One Bread, One Body, 7/28/2009

FIELD OF DREAMS?

"The field is the world." —Matthew 13:38

The field is the world. "God so loved the world that He sent His only Son"
to give up all that He owned, purchase that field, and die in agony on His
cross so the field and its inhabitants might not perish, but have
everlasting life (Jn 3:16; Mt 13:44).

The field is full of people. Jesus loves all people, for they are made in
His image and likeness (Gn 1:27). To Jesus, this field of humanity is a
treasure. He gave all He had to purchase this field (Mt 13:44). Jesus
treasures us, and where His treasure lies, there His heart is (Lk 6:45).

Jesus, Emmanuel, God-with-us (Mt 1:23), made His dwelling among us when we
were weeds (Jn 1:14). Like a grain of wheat, He fell to the ground and
died to bear the fruit (Jn 12:24) of changed lives. He died to change
former sinful weeds like us into wheat.

Since Jesus died for us when we were sinners (Rm 5:8), why should we get
upset when we have to live in a world full of weed-like sinners? (Mt
13:38) We need not be discouraged. If Jesus treasures sinners so much as
to die for them, then as disciples of Jesus, we must do the same. Ask
Jesus for His heart, so as to treasure the sinful weeds in our midst. We
too must die to ourselves and do whatever it takes, so that at least some
might be transformed and saved (see 1 Cor 9:19).

Thank God forever that Jesus loved us when we were sinful and unlovable.
Thank God that Jesus treasured us when we weren't so shiny and fruitful.
"Go and do the same" (Lk 10:37).

Prayer: Jesus, Master Gardener, change me from a weed-whacker to a
weed-feeder. Reap a harvest of faith through me.

Promise: "As the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is His
kindness toward those who fear Him." —Ps 103:11

Praise: Jason regularly visits the eucharistic Treasure in the tabernacle
to help him overcome his tendency to be a weed.

LEADING MEN

"What did this people ever do to you that you should lead them into so
grave a sin?" —Exodus 32:21

Aaron's leadership style was to satisfy the people. When the people
approached him with a problem, Aaron didn't consider God's wishes.
Instead, he tried to satisfy the people's desires. Not succeeding, he
simply "let the people run wild" (Ex 32:25). Under Aaron's weak
"leadership," sinfulness, chaos, and confusion reigned instead of godly
order (see 1 Cor 14:33, 40).

Diotrephes, an early Christian leader, "enjoyed" being a Church leader
(see 3 Jn 9). He loved to dominate (3 Jn 9, RNAB). His leadership style
apparently consisted in trying to satisfy himself. Diotrephes is not
presented in Scripture as seeking to determine God's wishes. Instead, He
arbitrarily refused to acknowledge Church authority established by God and
expelled those who wished to submit to it (3 Jn 10).

Moses was a true servant-leader (see Lk 22:26). He exercised his God-given
authority as needed (Ex 32:26), but typically was meek (Nm 12:3) as he
listened to his people's needs (e.g. Ex 18:13). His leadership style was
to satisfy God and sacrificially love his people. He constantly sought
God's direction as he submitted his leadership to God (Ex 34:34). He
interceded on behalf of his beloved people, even if he might have to
suffer because of it (see Ex 32:10-14, 32).

Is God calling you to be a leader? Seek God's wishes. Answer His call.
"With a leader to break the path they shall burst open the gate and go out
through it" (Mi 2:13).

Prayer: Father, may we obey the leaders You give us and defer to them so
they may rejoice in serving You (Heb 13:17).

Promise: "I will announce what has lain hidden since the creation of the
world." —Mt 13:35

Praise: Sarah has been faithfully visiting the Lord in Eucharistic
adoration for ten years.

PM eNewsletter 17th Sunday in ordinary time.

July 26th 17th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, this week Your church celebrates a saint who tried
with all of her being to be the perfect hostess.

She got upset when her sister Mary just wanted to sit at
Your feet and listen to You.

Lord, helping others is very important, but we need to be
fed to truly be able to do that.

Give us the grace to listen to Your church, and learn how
to be just stewards of our time and talent.

Lord, help us to see others with Your eyes, and always
with the understanding that we must be strong to help
others get strong.

Jesus, help us to come to You everyday in every way.
Amen and Amen

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday MULTIPLICATION TABLE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=7/26/2009

"How can I set this before a hundred men?" —2 Kings 4:43

Many times what we have to offer seems so inadequate. We
may only have a couple free hours a week. So how can we
renew the Church? We may be confined to home. Our main
contact with people is by phone. Under these circumstances,
how can we make disciples of all nations? (Mt 28:19) We
have five dollars to give, but the church needs $100,000
to shelter the homeless. What good is five dollars?

We often find ourselves in the same situation as Jesus
when He found Himself with five loaves, two fish, and
fifteen to twenty thousand people to feed. Perhaps we
don't need food multiplied as much as time, energy, and
money multiplied. We need Jesus' multiplication miracle
daily to change our inadequacy into His sufficiency. Jesus
works this miracle daily in the Mass. Because of this,
the early Church called the Mass "breaking of the bread."
When Jesus breaks bread, our little lives are multiplied
to transform the world.

Living in Reality

The Key to Building Life in the Spirit

Many people, even Christians, are not in touch with reality
because of sin and our secular humanistic culture. Therefore,
in the preface of this book, we consider four basic realities
revealed by Christ. Then we focus on repentance from sin and
total commitment to Jesus. The book concludes by showing how
to build a new life and life-style in the Spirit through
family relationships.

This book should ideally be taught in the context of

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official teachings
of the Roman Catholic Church

THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS

TOTAL IDENTIFICATION

May the Year for Priests lead all priests to identify
totally with the Crucified and Risen Jesus so that, in
imitation of St. John the Baptist they may be prepared
to "shrink" that Christ may grow and that, in following
the example of the Cure d'Ars, they feel constantly and
profoundly the responsibility of their mission, which
is the sign and presence of God's infinite mercy.

ENTRUSTED TO MARY

To the Most Holy Virgin I entrust this Year for Priests.
I ask her to awaken in the heart of every priest a
generous and renewed commitment to the ideal of complete
self-oblation to Christ and the Church which inspired
the thoughts and actions of the saintly Cure of Ars.

HEARTS ON FIRE

Let us ask the Lord to set the heart of every priest
afire with that "pastoral charity" which can make him
one in heart and mind with Jesus ... and to imitate
Jesus in complete self-giving.

MULTIPLICATION TABLE

"How can I set this before a hundred men?" —2 Kings 4:43

Many times what we have to offer seems so inadequate. We may only have a
couple free hours a week. So how can we renew the Church? We may be
confined to home. Our main contact with people is by phone. Under these
circumstances, how can we make disciples of all nations? (Mt 28:19) We
have five dollars to give, but the church needs $100,000 to shelter the
homeless. What good is five dollars?

We often find ourselves in the same situation as Jesus when He found
Himself with five loaves, two fish, and fifteen to twenty thousand people
to feed. Perhaps we don't need food multiplied as much as time, energy,
and money multiplied. We need Jesus' multiplication miracle daily to
change our inadequacy into His sufficiency. Jesus works this miracle daily
in the Mass. Because of this, the early Church called the Mass "breaking
of the bread." When Jesus breaks bread, our little lives are multiplied to
transform the world.

Prayer: Jesus, I give You all of my little life. Multiply it.

Promise: "Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as
its origin and peace as its binding force." —Eph 4:3

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! Your broken body has multiplied our
healing. Praise You, Lamb of God, for shepherding us with Your love.

(Begin to transform the world by reading the Bible every day. We have
several tape series to help you. "Overview of the Bible "is six audio

EARTHEN VESSELS AND BLOOD-VESSELS

"This treasure we possess in earthen vessels." —2 Corinthians 4:7

Part of today's first reading is very popular. We seem to get much
satisfaction from thinking of ourselves as "earthen vessels." Certainly we
are weak and fragile. The emphasis in the New Testament, however, is not
on our weakness but on the Lord's power and our greatness in Him. We are
"a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people He claims for
His own" (1 Pt 2:9). We are greater than the greatest people of the Old
Testament: Abraham, Moses, Elijah, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and others (Mt
11:11). We can even do greater by far than Jesus did (Jn 14:12).

We are earthen vessels, but nonetheless the most expensive vessels of all
time. We were bought at the price of Jesus' blood (1 Cor 6:19-20). Through
His incarnation, sacrificial death, and glorious resurrection, the human
person, and especially the Christian, has been raised to an awesome
dignity. We are precious and chosen. We have every reason to love
ourselves (see Mt 22:39). We also have every reason to reject the petty
pleasures of the world, because they are beneath our dignity as children
of God and temples of the Spirit.

Yes, we are earthen vessels, but more importantly we are tabernacles where
God has chosen to dwell.

Prayer: Father, may my self-image be appropriate to the fact that You sent
Your Son to die for me.

Promise: "Indeed, everything is ordered to your benefit, so that the grace
bestowed in abundance may bring greater glory to God because they who give
thanks are many." —2 Cor 4:15

Praise: St. James fled in fear from the cross, but by the power of the
Spirit he later embraced it.

THE THIRD COMMANDMENT

"Remember to keep holy the sabbath day." —Exodus 20:8

The Lord commanded us to remember to keep holy the new covenant's sabbath,
that is, Sunday. Do you remember? Is the whole day set apart as special?
Or do you just go to church on Sunday? If Jesus isn't "Lord of the
sabbath" (see Mk 2:28), then He's not Lord of your life. If He's not Lord
of all, He's not Lord at all.

The Lord's word about the Lord's day for many people has fallen on the
footpath. We don't understand what God has sown in our minds, so the devil
comes to steal it away (Mt 13:19). Some of us used to observe the Lord's
day. In fact, it was the most joyous day of the week. However, we gave all
that up as our society changed. We had no roots (Mt 13:21). Some still
believe in keeping Sunday holy; nonetheless, the pressures of work, the
lure of shopping centers, and the spell of television (especially pro
football) have choked it off (Mt 13:22).

However, there are a few, a remnant, who obey the third commandment, and
they will bear fruit "a hundred — or sixty — or thirtyfold" (Mt 13:23).
Let those who have ears, hear (Mt 13:9).

Prayer: Father, two days from now, may I obey the third commandment in
Spirit and truth. Right now, may I begin to prepare for Sunday.

Promise: "In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and
all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the
Lord has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy." —Ex 20:11

Praise: St. Sharbel Makhluf was a Lebanese monk who lived as a hermit in
poverty, self-sacrifice, and prayer. He lost his life for Jesus, and
thereby discovered who he was (Mt 10:39).

Coping with job loss

Source: Rusty Wright
How do you help a friend cope with losing their job? I got an email recently
from another laid-off colleague. He received notice Tuesday, effective
Friday. His wife is also jobless. He put the word out, looking for leads.
One more recession downsizing casualty.

I've made three major employment shifts, none envisioned when I landed the
jobs, all due to circumstances beyond my control. Disconcerting times.

Unemployment is the highest in twenty-five years. But you don't need to be a
statistician to know it's rampant. Just observe some recent offers. Buy
certain automakers' cars and, if you lose your job, they'll make your
monthly payments.

Some of the unemployed find creative ways to ease their pain and vent their
anger. A laid-off computer programmer organised the Unemployment Olympics in
New York City. Participants needed proof of joblessness to compete in "Pin
the Blame on the Boss," "You're Fired" footrace, piñata bashing, and
telephone throwing. One contestant admitted to CNN, "I'm really waiting for
the piñata. It's my ex-boss. His face will be all over it."

Processing job loss can take time. It's natural to feel devalued,
unappreciated, bewildered, lonely, angry, perhaps frightened. My termination
notice came on the 25th anniversary of my employment, two weeks before my
marriage of twenty years ended. Plus my doctor said I might have cancer.
Life seemed a tornado of confusion.

The popular television comedy Frasier's "Good Grief" episode depicts Frasier
Crane coping with loss of his job as a Seattle radio psychiatrist. He
experienced the five classic stages of grief: Denial (for him, obsession
with grandiose projects); Anger (clobbering a piñata and cell phone);
Bargaining ("pleasing" God by being a better celebrity and throwing a party
for his fans - three came); Depression (overeating, sobbing, hopelessness);
and, finally, Acceptance. Perhaps your unemployed friends will experience
many of these stages.

I'm grateful that close friends stuck with me and encouraged me through my
deep waters. When my colleague's recent email came, I commiserated, passed
along networking and short-term work ideas, and conveyed some encouraging
principles that helped me through my transitions. They included grieving the
loss, hanging close with friends, and looking for a bright spot.

CNN star Larry King once was fired from the Miami Herald. "It was very
difficult for me when they dropped me," he recalls. King says one can view
firing as "a terrible tragedy" or a chance to seek new opportunities.

Remembering noteworthy accomplishments, anticipating turning the page to a
new chapter of life, and sinking spiritual roots deep also helped me. I'm
glad I had personal faith as a resource for coping with life's craziness.
During my darker days, a friend reminded me of a biblical affirmation: "God
causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and
are called according to his purpose.."

"Remember," my friend said, "that hasn't been repealed yet." At the time,
life did not feel "good." In fact, it felt lousy, and it was hard to
envision myself beyond the turmoil. But he was right. Now, thirteen years
later, I'm happily married, employed doing what I enjoy, and in good health.

Recession may mean hard times for some of your friends, co-workers, or
family. maybe for you. There are people who care and resources -
counselling, books, articles, support groups, faith communities - to help.
Use them. And hang in there.

BREAKING COMMANDMENTSAND BREAKING DOWN

God "summoned Moses to the top of the mountain..." —Exodus 19:20

Part of the foundation of Western civilization is the Ten Commandments.
The better we have obeyed the Ten Commandments, the more love, peace,
justice, freedom, and happiness we have seen in our society. Right now in
our culture the Ten Commandments are being broken with abandon. False gods
and graven images (Ex 20:3-4) are being flashed across our TV screens. We
put much time, money, and attention into these gods of self, pleasure,
power, work, lifestyle, sex (see Eph 5:5), and so on. We adore and worship
these gods.

We also flaunt breaking the second commandment. If we go to the average
movie, we will probably hear God's name repeatedly taken in vain. Who
keeps holy the Lord's Day anymore? We work and shop on Sundays much more
than ever before in Western civilization. Honoring our fathers and mothers
has reached an all-time low, as our society encourages children to rebel
against their parents. Furthermore, divorce makes it much more difficult
for children to honor their parents. Casual sex denies parenthood.

Concerning the fifth commandment, abortion has made us the top killers of
all time. Partly because of artificial birth control, we may also be the
top adulterers of all time. With our technological and communication
expertise, we have developed new ways of stealing, lying, and coveting. No
society has broken the Ten Commandments as we have. "The wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rm
6:23).

Prayer: Father, I repent.

Promise: "To you has been given a knowledge of the mysteries of the reign
of God." —Mt 13:11

Praise: St. Bridget of Sweden wrote letters to cardinals, popes, and
secular leaders leading them to repent.

"MARY-ED" LOVE

"I found Him Whom my heart loves." —Song of Songs 3:4

In His love, Jesus became a human being and even died on the cross for us.
By His incarnation and crucifixion, He has sought after us and allured us
(Hos 2:16). As a young man courts and "marries a virgin," our Builder has
courted us and wants to marry us (Is 62:5). Jesus has proposed marriage to
us. He wants us to respond to His love with our love, but no one can force
another to love him. Jesus must wait for our response to His incarnate and
crucified love.

Will you respond to Jesus as did Mary Magdalene? She "sought Him Whom" her
heart loved (Sg 3:1). The love of Christ impelled her (2 Cor 5:14). She
was at the foot of the cross with Jesus (Jn 19:25). While it was still
dark, she came and wept at His tomb (Jn 20:1, 11). When He said her name,
she recognized the risen Jesus and threw herself at His feet (Jn
20:16-17). Mary Magdalene loved Jesus.

Look at a picture of Jesus. See His nail-scarred hands and glorified body.
Surrender your life to Him. Thankfully agree to do His will rather than
yours. Love Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, Bridegroom (Mk 2:19), I live no longer for myself but for
You (2 Cor 5:15).

Promise: "He died for all so that those who live might live no longer for
themselves, but for Him Who for their sakes died and was raised up." —2
Cor 5:15

Praise: St. Mary Magdalene, once possessed of seven demons (Lk 8:2),
freely gave herself to the One Who set her free.

HAND-SHAKE

"Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord swept the sea
with a strong east wind throughout the night and so turned it into dry
land." —Exodus 14:21

After the Israelites had crossed the sea and the Lord had clogged the
Egyptians' chariot wheels in the midst of the sea, Moses again "stretched
out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea flowed back to its normal
depth" (Ex 14:27). This drowned the Egyptian army.

When Moses stretched out his hand, he did miracles. However, when Jesus
extended His hands (Mt 12:49), He did even greater things. Jesus extended
His hands to us, His disciples, and said: "There are My mother and My
brothers. Whoever does the will of My heavenly Father is brother and
sister and mother to Me" (Mt 12:50). When Jesus extended His hands, He
told us, who obey His Father's will, that we are His brothers, sisters,
and mothers. We are members of God's family. We have a personal, intimate
relationship with Jesus, Son of God, God Himself, second Person of the
Trinity.

Stretch out your hand to the extended, nail-scarred hands of Jesus. Give
Jesus a hand, even if that means having nail-scarred hands yourself. Be
more than a Moses (see Mt 11:11). Be a member of God's family.

Prayer: Father, when I receive Holy Communion, may I consecrate my hands
to You.

Promise: "I will sing to the Lord, for He is gloriously triumphant." —Ex
15:1

Praise: St. Lawrence of Brindisi called the word of God "the source of
faith, hope, charity, all virtues, all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, all
beatitudes of the Gospel, all good works, all the rewards of life, all the
glories of paradise."

FREEDOM FIGHTERS

"Why did you bring us out of Egypt?" —Exodus 14:11

Patrick Henry said: "Give me liberty or give me death." The Israelites
said: "Give me life, and who cares about liberty." They said: "Far better
for us to be the slaves of the Egyptians than to die in the desert" (Ex
14:12). Most of us can relate better to the Israelites than to Patrick
Henry. We want "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." However,
life and happiness can be higher priorities than liberty. In fact,
pleasure is often a higher priority than liberty. We may know we are
trapped in compulsive behavior. We may admit a relationship is not God's
will, but we choose pleasure over liberty.

We will never want liberty enough to die for it until we give our lives to
Jesus, Who died to free us. He is the Truth Who sets us free (Jn 8:32). If
we let Him free us, we're truly free (Jn 8:36). Jesus came to give
"liberty to captives" and "release to prisoners" (Lk 4:18). He is the
Redeemer, the One Who paid the price to free us from slavery.

Think of an area in your life where you truthfully don't want freedom
enough to die for it. Pray to Jesus: "Jesus, Redeemer, have mercy on me
and free me." Keep praying this prayer. When you're tempted, keep praying
to Jesus the Redeemer. He will free you.

Prayer: Father, may I be free to do godly things that most people in our
society are afraid to do.

Promise: "You have a greater than Solomon here." —Mt 12:42

Praise: St. Apollinaris, tradition says, was ordained by St. Peter and
noted for his gift of healing.

PM eNewsletter 16th Sunday in ordinary time.

July 19th 16th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, we have all sinned and fallen far from Your presence.

We need to see examples of those who You have touched and
freed them from there sinful ways.

This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates a feast of a lady
who loved You dearly and followed You all the way to the cross.

Mary Magdalene was a sinner who you freed from the clasp of satan.

When she was freed she walked with You everyday for the rest
of Your earthly life.

Give us all that same freedom from serious sin, and help us
to follow You everyday, by picking up our crosses of life,
and knowing that You are with us always. Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday FOOD AND LOVE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=7/19/2009

"He pitied them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and He began to teach them at great length." —Mark 6:34

The main responsibility of a shepherd is to feed his sheep.
Jesus the Good Shepherd is preoccupied with feeding His sheep.
He Himself went without food (Mk 6:31) to feed His sheep by
teaching them at great length. The way Jesus wants us to show
our love for Him is by feeding His sheep (Jn 21:17).

We need both physical and spiritual feeding, but the most
important is spiritual. We are fed spiritually in two ways:
Holy Communion and God's word. Jesus said: "My flesh is real
food" (Jn 6:55) and "Not on bread alone is man to live but
on every utterance that comes from the mouth of God" (Mt 4:4).

This booklet, One Bread, One Body, is intended to feed the
sheep in these two ways. We teach the Scripture readings for
the daily Eucharist to encourage all our readers to read the
Bible and to go to Mass and Holy Communion daily. We feed
the sheep in this way because we love the sheep, and
especially we love the Shepherd.

express this by acts of mercy and love toward the
offender (see Lk 15:20-24).

"Forgiveness is the restoration of freedom to oneself.
It is the key held in our own hand to our prison cell" (Pope John Paul
II).

2) How often must I forgive?

70 x 7, that is, indefinitely, always (see Mt 18:22).

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official teachings
of the Roman Catholic Church

THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS

150TH ANNIVERSARY

The year for priests which I wanted to coincide with the 150th
anniversary of the death of the holy Cure d'Ars ... [began on]
the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and a Day of Priestly
Sanctification. I entrust to your prayers this new spiritual
initiative which will follow the Pauline Year... May this new
Jubilee Year be a favorable opportunity for deepening the
value and importance of the priestly mission and for asking
the Lord to give numerous holy priests to the Church.

ENCOURAGE PRIESTS

The purpose of this Year for Priests ... is ... to encourage
every priest in this striving for spiritual perfection on
which ... the effectiveness of their ministry depends,
and ... to help priests and ... the entire People of God to
rediscover and to reinforce their knowledge of the
extraordinary, indispensable gift of Grace which the ordained
minister represents for those who have received it, for the
whole Church and for the world which would be lost without
the Real Presence of Christ.

STRONGER WITNESS

This Year [is] meant to deepen the commitment of all priests
to interior renewal for the sake of a stronger and more
incisive witness to the Gospel in today's world.

FOOD AND LOVE

"He pitied them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began
to teach them at great length." —Mark 6:34

The main responsibility of a shepherd is to feed his sheep. Jesus the Good
Shepherd is preoccupied with feeding His sheep. He Himself went without
food (Mk 6:31) to feed His sheep by teaching them at great length. The way
Jesus wants us to show our love for Him is by feeding His sheep (Jn
21:17).

We need both physical and spiritual feeding, but the most important is
spiritual. We are fed spiritually in two ways: Holy Communion and God's
word. Jesus said: "My flesh is real food" (Jn 6:55) and "Not on bread
alone is man to live but on every utterance that comes from the mouth of
God" (Mt 4:4).

This booklet, One Bread, One Body, is intended to feed the sheep in these
two ways. We teach the Scripture readings for the daily Eucharist to
encourage all our readers to read the Bible and to go to Mass and Holy
Communion daily. We feed the sheep in this way because we love the sheep,
and especially we love the Shepherd.

Prayer: Jesus, by Your Spirit, may I lose my appetite for the things of
this world and desire You, the Bread of life (Jn 6:35).

Promise: "In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near
through the blood of Christ." —Eph 2:13

Praise: "Praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His
majesty is above earth and heaven" (Ps 148:13).

WILL YOU BE GENTLE OR WICK-ED?

"The smoldering wick He will not quench." —Matthew 12:20

A man with a shriveled hand comes to the synagogue (Mt 12:10). This man is
like a smoldering wick. One of his hands is almost useless. There's still
a little life left in his hand, but it's just smoldering, barely alive.

How did the Pharisees react when they saw a smoldering wick? They reacted
with wickedness by exploiting this man in hopes of accusing Jesus (see Mk
3:2). When confronted with healing and life, they wickedly plotted death
(Mt 12:14).

How does Jesus react when a wick is smoldering? He responds with
gentleness and compassion, bringing life, healing, and hope (Mt 12:13).
The Pharisees were supposedly devoted to the prophecies of the Old
Testament, but even while Jesus fulfilled these prophecies in their very
midst (e.g. Is 35:6; 58:8; Ez 34:16), their determined choice to act in
wickedness blinded them to the truth being revealed in front of their
eyes.

Despite our wickedness, God still treats us gently (see Mt 11:29). Jesus
won't even snuff out a smoldering wick, that is, a person in whom the
light of God has just about died, such as the Pharisees. Though He could
act in justice and severity toward those who, like the Pharisees, have
allowed their hope in Him to diminish almost to extinction, He instead
covers them with gentleness in trying to lead them to faith.

Who are the smoldering wicks in your life? Work with Jesus to set them
aflame with the light of Christ.

Prayer: Jesus, You came to light a fire for the smoldering wicks in my
life. Use me to ignite the blaze in their lives (Lk 12:49).

Promise: "Many people followed Him and He cured them all." —Mt 12:16

Praise: St. Camillus de Lellis was rejected twice as a novice because of a
leg ulcer, which led him to a life of ministry to the incurable.

CELEBRATING THE NEW PASSOVER - One Bread, One Body, 7/17/2009

Friday, July 17, 2009

Exodus 11:10—12:14, Psalm 116:12-13, 15-18, Matthew 12:1-8
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/071709.shtml

CELEBRATING THE NEW PASSOVER

"This day shall be a memorial feast for you, which all your generations
shall celebrate with pilgrimage to the Lord, as a perpetual
institution." —Exodus 12:14

Passover is one of the most important celebrations in the history of the
human race. It refers to the event when the Lord passed over the homes of
the Israelites while putting to death the firstborn of the Egyptians (Ex
12:12, 29-30). In this way, the Israelites were freed from hundreds of
years of slavery.

Jesus celebrated the "Last Supper" on the occasion of the Passover. He
said: "I have greatly desired to eat this Passover with you before I
suffer" (Lk 22:15). He commanded us to do the new Passover of the Last
Supper in remembrance of Him (Lk 22:19). After Pentecost, the Spirit led
the early Church to devote itself to celebrating the new Passover (Acts
2:42). They called it the "breaking of the bread." For two thousand years
the Passover, Last Supper, Mass, Eucharist, has been the center of
Christian life.

Are you desiring to celebrate the Passover as Jesus greatly desires to
celebrate it with you? (Lk 22:15) Is Mass the center of your life? Do you
live to celebrate the Eucharist? Have you followed the Spirit's lead in
devoting yourself to the breaking of the bread? (Acts 2:42) Ask for the
grace to love Jesus in the Eucharist with all your heart.

Prayer: Jesus, may I desire to celebrate Mass and receive Communion daily.
Do anything to increase this desire in Me.

Promise: "It is mercy I desire and not sacrifice." —Mt 12:7

Praise: Reception of the Eucharist has turned around many a day for
Rhonda.

of the Spirit", or our audio tape AV 49-1 or video V-49.)

Can we really know God's will?

Source: Greg Laurie
Does God still speak to people today? Does He actually have a master plan
for your life and mine? If so, how do we discover it? How can we know the
will of God? The answer to first question is yes. God still speaks to people
today. But let me also say that after years of walking with the Lord, I have
not discovered a foolproof method for knowing the will of God under all
circumstances.

However, I have discovered certain principles from the Scripture that, if
applied, will better enable you to hear and respond to the voice of God.

The good news is that God does not play hide-and-seek. He wants you to hear
His voice even more than you want to hear it. But far too often, we may not
like what God is saying and, thus, we will be resistant to it.

The goal is to discover the will of God for our lives and then to walk in
it. Here is something to consider: in the long run, God's will is always
better than ours.

I use the term "long run" for a reason, because there are times when we have
difficulty understanding why God is doing certain things or why He is not
doing certain things.

Remember that God is always looking out for your spiritual and eternal
welfare, where we tend to look out for our physical and immediate welfare.
What is good now is not necessarily good for eternity, and what is difficult
now may be the best thing for eternity.

We tend to look at things in the short-term: What will benefit me now? What
is easier for me now? But God looks at eternity, and the ultimate plan of
molding and shaping me into the image of Jesus Christ.

I am interested primarily in the physical, while God is interested in the
spiritual.

The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, "For our present troubles are
quite small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us an
immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So we don't look at the
troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not
yet seen . . . " (NLT).

So if we want to know the will of God, then we must look for it. And the
best place to begin is in the pages of Scripture.

Today, God primarily speaks to us through His Word. Therefore, the Bible is
the bedrock of truth that we must measure all other truth by. We must not
interpret the Bible in light of contemporary culture; we must interpret
contemporary culture in the light of the Bible. It is the absolute.

The Bible is the clear revelation by which we must measure all so-called
human revelations. It is the rock of stability by which we measure our
fickle human emotions. That way, we know what is right or what is wrong in
the light of Scripture.

Everything you need to know about God is found in the Bible. As 2 Timothy
3:16 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what
is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us
out and teaches us to do what is right" (NLT).

Yet so many people today are not taking time for the Word of God. So many
people today are not acting and thinking biblically. Instead, they are
allowing this world to squeeze them into its mold and are not looking at
things in light of what the Bible says.

The only way we will be conversant with the Scripture, however, is by
spending time in it in on a daily basis.

Psalm 1 tells us that the blessed, or happy, person meditates in God's Word
day and night. This is something we all need to do in our lives. And as we
search the Word of God, He will speak to us. When you read the Bible, you
are disciplining and preparing yourself to think and act biblically.

God has given us His Word, but we must look for His will. As you apply the
principles of Scripture to your life, pray and ask the Lord to lead you.
Nothing is too insignificant or too minute to pray about.

As the Jewish proverb says, it is better to ask the way ten times than to
take the wrong road once.
