MAD AT THE MAILMAN
"This man does not deserve death; it is in the name of the Lord, our God, that he speaks to us." —Jeremiah 26:16

God’s Word is a two-edged sword (Heb 4:12), which comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable. When God’s Word and our wills cross, we are tempted to blame the teacher, preacher, pastor, or prophet. We blame the mail-carrier for the mail.
The Israelites did this to Jeremiah. He insisted that the Israelites argument wasn’t with him but with the Lord Who had sent him (Jer 26:15). The religious authorities of Jesus’ day confused the messengers with the message and put the apostles in prison (see Acts 5:17-18). Likewise, Herod and Herodias tried in vain to silence the Word by beheading John the Baptizer (Mt 14:10).However, “there is no chaining the word of God!” (2 Tm 2:9)
When we’re tempted to reject the messengers of God’s messages, we should take the advice of Gamaliel: “You will not be able to destroy them without fighting God Himself” (Acts 5:39).

Prayer: Father, may I listen to Your Word more than to the world.

Promise: "For the Lord hears the poor, and His own who are in bonds He spurns not." —Ps 69:34

Praise: St. Alphonsus is a Doctor of the Church. He was a prolific author and also founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer for the salvation of the most abandoned souls (the Redemptorists). Pope Pius XII declared him patron of moral theologians.

THE ONLY HOPE FOR THE HARDHEARTED
"If you disobey Me, not living according to the law I placed before you and not listening to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I send you constantly though you do not obey them..." —Jeremiah 26:4-5

At daily Mass, we have been reading from the prophet Jeremiah for about ten days. We will continue to read from Jeremiah for another week. Day after day, we read that God’s Word spoken through Jeremiah and almost all other prophets was not accepted. The hardness of the human heart is so great that even Jesus, the greatest Prophet, was not accepted in His native place (Mt 13:57). Even after His death on the cross and glorious resurrection, Jesus is not accepted. How hard can our hearts be!
In six days, we will celebrate Jesus’ Transfiguration, when God the Father from the overshadowing cloud of the Holy Spirit announced: “This is My beloved Son on Whom My favor rests. Listen to Him” (Mt 17:5). Initially, even the message of Jesus’ Transfiguration did not soften hardened hearts. Finally, at the first Christian Pentecost, the Holy Spirit did the amazing miracle of opening hardened hearts to Jesus. Jesus’ disciples listened to Him, and the Church was born.
God our Father, send the Holy Spirit to do the miracle of Pentecost so that we will listen to Jesus.

Prayer: Father, break open my hardened heart.

Promise: "But I pray to you, O Lord, for the time of Your favor, O God! In Your great kindness answer me with Your constant help." ––Ps 69:14

Praise: During his recovery from a severe battlefield injury, St. Ignatius read extensively on the lives of the saints. He asked, "If the saints could do this, why not I?"

ROUNDABOUT
God "tried again." —Jeremiah 18:4

In business, a common saying is: “Why is there never time to do the job right the first time, but always time to do it over again?” Have you ever worked hard at a project, only to have a co-worker spoil the end result through carelessness or sabotage? Now you must “try again” through no fault of your own.
Can you remember a situation of which you could say: “I thought I had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength”? (Is 49:4)  Hold that situation in memory. Now picture the Lord at the potter’s wheel (Jer 18:3ff), trying over and over again to mold you into His disciple. Whenever you rebel, He patiently picks out your hardened parts, discards what is useless in your life (Mt 13:48), and gently tries again. With infinite patience and skillful care, He continues to work at forming you according to His pleasure (Jer 18:4).
God the Potter won’t stop working on you. He doesn’t get frustrated; rather, He’ll keep trying again and again. “It is hard for you to” fight against Him (see Acts 26:14). Repent! Stop going around in circles with the Lord. Surrender every part of your life to God. Let Him lovingly caress you with His gentle hands and make a masterpiece of your life.

Prayer: Father Potter, by my negligence and rebellion, I've wasted enough of Your time and mine (1 Pt 4:3). Mold me as You wish.

Promise: "Every scribe who is learned in the reign of God is like the head of a household who can bring from his storeroom both the new and the old." —Mt 13:52

Praise: St. Peter was called "golden word" (Chrysologus). About 180 of his writings have been preserved—a great blessing to the Church. He famously said, "He who amuses himself with Satan cannot rejoice with Christ!"

THE ROADSTOP
" 'Do you believe this?' 'Yes, Lord,' she replied. 'I have come to believe that You are the Messiah, the Son of God: He Who is to come into the world.' " —John 11:26-27

St. Martha went out to meet Jesus on the road near her home. At this place on the road, Jesus challenged and graced Martha to believe that He is the Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25-26). Martha responded by making what is possibly one of the greatest acts of faith ever (Jn 11:27). Thus, this place on the road became a place of faith.
Jesus stopped at this spot (Jn 11:30), and soon Mary, Martha’s sister, and many of her friends came to meet Jesus. They all began to weep, and Jesus likewise wept (Jn 11:33, 35). Why was Jesus weeping? He knew that He would raise Lazarus from the dead. So why would He mourn Lazarus’ death? He may have been weeping because of the people’s lack of faith. Jesus wept over Jerusalem for this reason on another occasion (Lk 19:41ff). Jesus may have been weeping because Martha’s place of faith had so quickly changed into a place lacking faith.
Are there any places of faith in your life where the faith is disappearing? Look at your street, neighborhood, home, and workplace. Are these places of faith? Don’t make Jesus cry. Live and profess your faith publicly, freely, and with perseverance.

Prayer: Father, increase my faith (Lk 17:5).

Promise: "Whoever believes in Me, though he should die, will come to life; and whoever is alive and believes in Me will never die." —Jn 11:26

Praise: "Jesus loved Martha" (Jn 11:5). St. Martha evolved into an exemplary disciple of the Lord. We have much to learn from her energetic piety.

"A TIME TO WEEP" (Eccl 3:4)
"Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest, over the great destruction which overwhelms the virgin daughter of my people, over her incurable wound." —Jeremiah 14:17

Sometimes the best thing to do is cry. Jesus Himself cried (Lk 19:41). He called those weeping “blest” (Lk 6:21). Sometimes, like Jeremiah, we should pray to cry. Many of us reading this have not cried for years. Others cry often but for the wrong reasons. We must cry for things for which we’ve never cried.  We may even need to cry for several days (Neh 1:4).
We should pray for some tears to be wiped away (Rv 21:4) and other tears to well up and pour out like a river. Jesus prophesied: “I tell you truly: you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices; you will grieve for a time, but your grief will be turned into joy” (Jn 16:20).
For the Lord to dry our tears, we must first cry. We should not be ashamed to cry, but rather ashamed to not cry, considering the evils in our midst. Tears of sorrow often precede tears of joy. Our Father counts our tears one by one. He stores them in His flask (Ps 56:9).

Prayer: Father, I want to "rejoice with those who rejoice" and "weep with those who weep" (Rm 12:15).

Promise: "The saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom. Let everyone heed what he hears!" —Mt 13:43

Praise: Edward received the gift of tears when he prayed for the Holy Spirit, tears of joy, not woe.

(Weep over the great spiritual destruction around us and then turn to joy by reading the Bible daily. UNDERGROUND
"The reign of God is like a mustard seed which someone took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest seed of all." —Matthew 13:31-32

The kingdom of God doesn’t look like much. It looks as little as a mustard seed or yeast. Therefore, to work in God’s Kingdom we must not go by sight, but by faith (2 Cor 5:7). Not only are we unable to see much, but to see anything at all will take some time. Dough rises gradually and mustard seed grows slowly. Therefore, to work in God’s kingdom we must persevere for some time. “Whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God” (Lk 9:62).
Faith and perseverance are the dynamics of kingdom living. Yet we are a show-me people for whom seeing is believing, an instant people for whom everything must be done almost immediately if done at all. The devil is not only tempting us to not seek first the kingdom, but trying to rob us of the basic foundational virtues of kingdom-living. The devil has trained us to look big and think big, and to ignore anything not a fingertip away in a vending machine or a handheld electronic device. While we get concerned about his throwing rocks at the windows of God’s kingdom, the devil is, behind the scenes, ever so quietly dismantling the kingdom’s foundation of faith and perseverance.

Prayer: Father, may I seek first, live for, and die for Your kingdom (Mt 6:33).

Promise: "I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to Me, says the Lord; to be My people, My renown, My praise, My beauty." —Jer 13:11

Praise: Sally felt unworthy to be on the parish evangelization team, but together with others in her parish, has brought Christ to her neighbors.

PM eNewsletter 17th Sunday in ordinary time

July 26th Seventeenth Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates the feast of St. Martha, who had a great desire to serve You,
because of her love for You.

She also had the gift of faith to know that You were the Son of God, the Messiah.

Martha believed in the resurrection of the dead, and knew that the Father heard all of Your prayers.

So You showed her Your love by raising her brother from the dead.

Lord, give us the faith to truly know of the resurrection and the grace to live lives in anticipation
of coming home to You at Your call.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "THE VALLEY OF DECISION"
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-7-26-en

"The reign of God is like a buried treasure which a man found in a field." -Matthew 13:44

Joel prophesied that life after death on Judgment Day and even life before death can be described as "the
valley of decision" (Jl 4:14). Life is the opportunity to decide to be like the young Solomon and to choose
wisdom (1 Kgs 3:9). Life in the new covenant is to decide to live for Jesus. The meaning of life is either
to sell all of the little that we have to buy what appears to be a vacant lot or to sell all of our great
wealth to buy the pearl of great price (Mt 13:46). In either case, life is to surrender our independence,
that is, our kingdom, and to submit to Jesus as our only King.

You can't accept Jesus as your King while you ignore His commandments. Have you decided to accept Jesus not
on your terms but on His? Have you lost your life for Jesus? (Lk 9:24) "How long will you straddle the
issue? If the Lord is God, follow Him" (1 Kgs 18:21). "Decide today whom you will serve...As for me and my
household, we will serve the Lord" (Jos 24:15). We sing: "Have you decided to follow Jesus?" Once you
decide, there is no turning back. What's your decision forever?

Prayer: Jesus, I decide to love You forever with all my heart (Dt 6:5).

Promise: "We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who have been called
according to His decree." -Rm 8:28

Praise: Praise Jesus, "Who died or rather was raised up, Who is at the right hand of God and Who
intercedes for us" (see Rm 8:34).

"THE VALLEY OF DECISION"
"The reign of God is like a buried treasure which a man found in a field." —Matthew 13:44

Joel prophesied that life after death on Judgment Day and even life before death can be described as “the valley of decision” (Jl 4:14). Life is the opportunity to decide to be like the young Solomon and to choose wisdom (1 Kgs 3:9). Life in the new covenant is to decide to live for Jesus. The meaning of life is either to sell all of the little that we have to buy what appears to be a vacant lot or to sell all of our great wealth to buy the pearl of great price (Mt 13:46). In either case, life is to surrender our independence, that is, our kingdom, and to submit to Jesus as our only King.
You can’t accept Jesus as your King while you ignore His commandments. Have you decided to accept Jesus not on your terms but on His? Have you lost your life for Jesus? (Lk 9:24) “How long will you straddle the issue? If the Lord is God, follow Him” (1 Kgs 18:21). “Decide today whom you will serve...As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Jos 24:15). We sing: “Have you decided to follow Jesus?” Once you decide, there is no turning back. What’s your decision forever?

Prayer: Jesus, I decide to love You forever with all my heart (Dt 6:5).

Promise: "We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who have been called according to His decree." —Rm 8:28

Praise: Praise Jesus, "Who died or rather was raised up, Who is at the right hand of God and Who intercedes for us" (see Rm 8:34).

LOUD SPEAKER - One Bread, One Body, 07/25/2020

Matthew 20:20-28

LOUD SPEAKER
"We have that spirit of faith of which the Scripture says, 'Because I believed, I spoke out.' We believe and so we speak." —2 Corinthians 4:13

St. James spoke out publicly without fear. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, we read about the speeches of Peter and John, but James proclaimed the truth so powerfully that Herod chose him as the first apostle to be killed (Acts 12:2). However, James was initially fearful and ran from conflict (Mk 14:50). Yet after receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, James was “filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4) and could not help speaking about Jesus (Acts 4:20).
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we live in a time of fierce battle for the truth and the faith. Our culture of death relentlessly attacks the lives of children in the womb, the sanctity and even the definition of marriage, the innocence of our children, the infirm, the aged, Christians, and especially Catholics.
Evil advances because the faithful are silent, and the faithful are silent because of a lack of love. Love casts out fear (1 Jn 4:18) and displaces self-preservation with zeal for the Lord. On this feast of St. James, pray for the Lord to give you greater love, “a well-trained tongue” (Is 50:4), and the spirit of faith to speak out (2 Cor 4:13). Fearlessly proclaim the truth in love (Eph 4:15).

Prayer: Father, give me the boldness and faith of St. James.

Promise: "Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing." —Ps 126:5

Praise: St. James, along with his brother St. John, were designated "Boanerges" by Jesus (see Mk 3:17). Unquestionably, this "son of thunder" displayed great fortitude when King Herod targeted him to be the first apostle to be martyred.

HOW TO GET GOOD LEADERS - One Bread, One Body, 07/24/2020

HOW TO GET GOOD LEADERS
"Return, rebellious children, says the Lord, for I am your Master." —Jeremiah 3:14

The Lord promised that, if we repented of our rebellion against Him, He would appoint over us wise and prudent leaders after His own heart (Jer 3:15). Then we would become fruitful and reach new heights (Jer 3:16ff).
We do not produce “grain a hundred- or sixty- or thirtyfold” (Mt 13:8) if we do not repent of:
• not growing in understanding God’s Word (Mt 13:19). The Holy Spirit has been given to us as our Teacher (Jn 14:26). If we are docile to the Spirit, we will have a good understanding of God’s Word.
• not rooting God’s Word in our lives (Mt 13:21). Our superficiality is due to our refusal to repent of selfishness and lukewarmness (Rv 3:16).
• giving in to “worldly anxiety and the lure of money” (Mt 13:22). By the power of the Holy Spirit, we must and can crucify our “flesh with its passions and desires” (Gal 5:24). In other words, we must live our Baptisms.
Do you believe we need better leaders in government, church, and business, especially the media? If so, repent of your own sins, especially of rejecting God’s Word. Then you will be spiritually fruitful, and you will be led into a much better world, even leading to a civilization of love and life.

Prayer: Father, may I never underestimate the importance of my repentance.

Promise: "There all nations will be gathered together to honor the name of the Lord at Jerusalem, and they will walk no longer in their hardhearted wickedness." —Jer 3:17

Praise: St. Sharbel exemplifies our Church "breathing with both lungs," East and West. He was born in Lebanon and professed religious vows in the Maronite Order, a religious community affiliated with the Eastern Catholic Churches. Although a hermit, St. Sharbel attracted many because of his wisdom and holiness.

ARE YOU LEAKING? - One Bread, One Body, 07/23/2020

ARE YOU LEAKING?
"They have forsaken Me, the Source of living waters; they have dug themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that hold no water." —Jeremiah 2:13

Does your life hold water — the living waters of God’s grace, Baptism, and the Holy Spirit? The patterns that we develop in our lives can be likened to digging cisterns (see Jer 2:13). These patterns will either help us retain and grow in our faith or contribute to an erosion and loss of our faith. For instance, a cistern, or way of life, in which God’s Word is not taken authoritatively will usually not hold water for long. A cistern in which the Pope is not obeyed will not hold water amid divisive or confusing circumstances. A cistern permissive toward TV is like a sieve. A cistern which emphasizes celebrating daily Mass and Holy Communion usually holds water even under the worst conditions. A cistern in which Christians live in Biblical community holds water better than any other type of cistern. Those in Christian community are very likely to keep the faith.
Christians are leaking badly. Although we have received rivers of living water (see Jn 7:38), we may be bone-dry. Sometimes we deal with this situation by pumping more living water into our lives. We have spurts of prayer, go to special conferences, or have revivals and renewals. However, the living water soon leaks out of our lives. We need more than additional water; we must fix the leaks, that is, dig an unbroken cistern, by repenting and significantly changing the patterns of our lives.

Prayer: Father, may I be filled with the Spirit (see Acts 2:4) and stay filled.

Promise: "O Lord, Your kindness reaches to heaven; Your faithfulness, to the clouds." —Ps 36:6

Praise: St. Bridget lived life abundantly. She was happily married, raising four sons and four daughters. As a deeply prayerful widow, she was inspired to found the order of the Holy Redeemer.

LOVE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY - One Bread, One Body, 07/22/2020

LOVE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY
"I will seek Him Whom my heart loves." —Song of Songs 3:2

Love can never be completely satisfied or complacent. Love by its very nature must be expressed, grow, and always find greater ways to bless the beloved. “Love following upon love” (Jn 1:16) always seeks the good of the other. Love, in a sense, is restless because love cannot rest until all is well with the beloved.
Love ignores personal safety and comfort. It always finds a way to increase the welfare of the beloved. Love seeks the beloved day and night (Sg 3:1-2). Love always seeks a way to reach the beloved, and if we seek to love, we will find a way (Mt 7:8).
This is the way Mary Magdalene loved Jesus. “The love of Christ” impelled her (2 Cor 5:14) to seek out Jesus. She had to be with Him, whether He was dying the gruesome death of an accused criminal (Jn 19:25) or risen in glorious splendor (Jn 20:16-17). This reflects the way Jesus loves us. We may be spiritually dead (Rv 3:1; 1 Jn 3:14), but Jesus loves us so much that He never stops seeking us.
“Love never fails” (1 Cor 13:8). If we love Jesus as much as did Mary Magdalene, we will find Him (Jer 29:13; Mt 7:8), and He will dwell in us and we in Him (1 Jn 4:16). Find the “Way” (Jn 14:6). Seek to love Jesus as did Mary Magdalene.

Prayer: Jesus, You are Love (1 Jn 4:8). I love You so much. May our mutual love start a new fire of faith and love burning on the earth (Lk 12:49).

Promise: "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new!" —2 Cor 5:17

Praise: St. Mary Magdalene so loved Jesus that she remained with Him at Calvary when almost everyone else abandoned Him (see Jn 19:25).

FIGHTING FOR OUR FAITH IN THE INFINITE GOD
"See, I will make the shadow cast by the sun on the stairway to the terrace of Ahaz go back the ten steps it has advanced." —Isaiah 38:8

God by definition is infinite and therefore can and will go beyond the laws of the natural world, which He created. He certainly will go far beyond humanity’s very limited understanding of nature. When the Lord goes beyond the laws of nature, we call this a miracle. For example, the Lord healed King Hezekiah of a terminal illness (Is 38:5) and combined this with an awesome miracle of making the “shadow cast by the sun on the stairway to the terrace of Ahaz go back the ten steps it [had] advanced” (Is 38:8).
Because miracles derive from God’s infinite nature, they are necessarily very significant in God’s plan of salvation. For example, Christianity is based on the astounding miracle of the Incarnation. Miracles always have been a sign of God’s kingdom (Lk 11:20). The salvation of the whole world by Jesus’ death on the cross and His Resurrection from the dead is the miracle of miracles. Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, was another miracle. The Church began with miracles. Every sacrament is a miracle. The world will end with the miracle of Christ’s final coming and the resurrection of the dead.
Because miracles permeate the Christian life, the devil is using our secular humanistic society to program us to automatically doubt all miracles. This is a way of robbing us of our faith. Therefore, abide in God’s Church and her word.  “Have no love for the world, nor the things that the world affords” (1 Jn 2:15).

Prayer: Father, protect me from being brainwashed "by the god of the present age" (see 2 Cor 4:4).

Promise: "It is mercy I desire." —Mt 12:7

Praise: When making a decision, John asks himself "What are the eternal consequences of this?"

THE DAY WE DISCOVER OUR POWERLESSNESS - One Bread, One Body,07/16/2020

THE DAY WE DISCOVER OUR POWERLESSNESS
"We conceived and writhed in pain, giving birth to wind; salvation we have not achieved for the earth, the inhabitants of the world cannot bring it forth." —Isaiah 26:18

We not only cannot bring forth salvation; we cannot do anything of ourselves. Jesus bluntly stated: “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5).
The day we discover this truth of our inability to do anything without Christ is one of the best days of our lives. At first, we are shocked. We thought for years we were doing things by our own power. Now we find out the truth. We often react with the question: “What am I going to do now that I cannot do anything?” The answer, of course, is to surrender our lives to Christ, for “in Him Who is the Source of [our] strength [we] have strength for everything” (Phil 4:13). Thereby, we can even do greater works than Jesus did (Jn 14:12).
When we discover our powerlessness, we can also discover Jesus, the all-powerful One. This is truly liberating. We no longer have to put out so much energy to keep alive the lie of our self-sufficiency. Rather, we can rest in Him (see Mt 11:28-29), live in His grace, and let the Holy Spirit carry us. We no longer have the constant pressure of doing it ourselves; we can be like Mary and let it be done to us according to God’s Word (see Lk 1:38).
Rest in your powerlessness and in Jesus’ love.

Prayer: Father, thank You for taking over my life.

Promise: "For My yoke is easy and My burden light." —Mt 11:30

Praise: Located not far from Nazareth, Mount Carmel became a dwelling place for Christian hermits during the Crusades. The Carmelite Order grew out of this community, exemplifying dedication to Our Lady.

PROUD OF PRIDE? - One Bread, One Body, 07/15/2020

PROUD OF PRIDE?
"By my own power I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I am shrewd." —Isaiah 10:13

Assyria prided itself in accomplishing its mission to punish Israel for its pride. This is asking for trouble. So the Lord responded: “I will punish the utterance of the king of Assyria’s proud heart, and the boastfulness of his haughty eyes” (Is 10:12-13). Pride has an extreme power to blind us spiritually. We can even pride ourselves on punishing others’ pride.
In the Western world, we live in a culture of death, that is, a culture of sin, for “the wages of sin is death” (Rm 6:23). A culture of death and sin is necessarily a culture of pride, for pride is the capital of the capital sins. Thus we are surrounded by pride. For example, the Lord died on the cross for us and gives us His Body and Blood, but many Catholics say to God by their actions: “I may go to Mass and Communion, if I feel like it and it doesn’t inconvenience me.” This is pride. The Lord told us the Bible is His Word, but many watch TV instead of reading the Bible. This is blind pride. Many act like they know more than God, the Church, and almost everyone who has preceded them. This is pervasive pride.
Therefore, let us humble ourselves (Mt 23:12) by repenting, forgiving, apologizing, serving, and taking the lowest place (Lk 14:10). Otherwise, the Lord will have to humble us in an attempt to prevent us from walking blindly into the place of everlasting pride, that is, hell.

Prayer: Loving Father, I know You want to exalt me. May I humble myself and let You have Your way.

Promise: "No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son — and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him." —Mt 11:27

Praise: St. Bonaventure is a Doctor of the Church. Gifted with great intellect, he was nonetheless able to write warmly and practically about the doctrines of the Faith.

EYE-OPENING REPENTANCE
"If the miracles worked in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have reformed in sackcloth and ashes long ago." —Matthew 11:21

“If the miracles worked in [Capernaum] had taken place in Sodom, it would be standing today” (Mt 11:23). Sodom, Tyre, and Sidon were among the most wicked places of the Old Testament (see Ez 26-28; Gn 18-19). Yet Jesus declares that the people of these condemned cities would have reformed. The problem was that they had no one to bring to them a ministry of power evangelization, that is, preaching accompanied by miracles. The people of Nineveh were infamous for their wickedness, but “at the preaching of Jonah they reformed” (Lk 11:32). Yet we have something greater than Jonah to offer them (Lk 11:32).
Where is your personal Tyre and Sidon? Is it your family, coworkers, neighbors? What environment do you think has no hope for conversion? Is it the inner city, the schools, the drug subculture, or corporate America? How do we know they will automatically reject the Gospel? If the Gospel is presented to them, there is always a chance for conversion. If they never hear a clear, powerful presentation of the Good News, then “how shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how can they believe unless they have heard of Him? And how can they hear unless there is someone to preach?” (Rm 10:14) How can they believe if we don’t believe enough to tell them about Jesus?
No one ever caught any fish by staying at home. Let’s spread the Good News and try to catch some big fish for Jesus (Mk 1:17).

Prayer: Father, may I never underestimate Your power.

Promise: "Unless your faith is firm you shall not be firm." —Is 7:9

Praise: St. Kateri is now known as the "Lily of the Mohawks." Orphaned at a young age, it took great courage for her to seek Baptism. Through grace and bravery, she received the Sacrament at 19 years of age.

"I have come to set a man at odds with his father, a daughter with her mother." —Matthew 10:35

Jesus bluntly declares: “Do not suppose that My mission on earth is to spread peace. My mission is to spread, not peace, but division” (Mt 10:34).
Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Is 9:5), and in fact He is Peace (Eph 2:14; Mi 5:4). Therefore, His nature is to spread peace. However, original sin has badly warped our human nature. In His mercy, Jesus has come to divide, that is, separate, us from all that opposes His ultimate ministry of peace:
• He divides us from attitudes, sins, and lifestyles that oppose His justice and peace. If necessary, His ministry of division might include separating Himself from our prayers (see Is 1:15).
• Separating family members might be necessary for a while. Lasting peace can’t be built on a weak foundation (see Mt 7:26-27).
• Daniel separated two people so He could arrive at truth and ultimate peace (Dn 13:51). Likewise, Jesus sometimes separates people to promote the truth (see 1 Cor 11:19).
• As a parent separates two fighting children, putting them into separate rooms, so Jesus may need to “separate” families in order to mysteriously bring His peace (Mt 10:34).
At the first creation, the Lord “separated” things (Gn 1:4, 7, 14, 18). His separation resulted in a beautiful, new world. So do not fear if you’ve endured the pain of separation. Jesus is just beginning a new creation greater than you can imagine (Eph 3:20).

Prayer: Jesus, Prince of Peace, separate me from anything which might separate me from You in this life or in eternity.

Promise: "He who brings Himself to nought for Me discovers who he is." —Mt 10:39

Praise: King Henry fostered positive Church reform.

July 12th, 15th Sunday in ordinary time

Again, the Church in her wisdom, gives us a feast day to honor our heavenly mother Mary, the feast of
"Our Lady of Mt. Carmel".

Mary adored You as child, and as a man, that she could see and touch.

We have the same privledge, we can see You in Your sacred Body and Blood, we can touch You in the bread
of life.

You, Christ, are the food of life, and receiving You constantly draws us to a further commitment to love
others, as we try in our human condition to love You.

Feed us the bread of life, and give us love to live life.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE THORNY QUESTION
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-7-12-en

"But what was sown on good soil is the man who hears the message and takes it in. He it is who bears a
yield of a hundred- or sixty- or thirtyfold." -Matthew 13:23

We who read One Bread, One Body pray and study God's written Word every day. We will be among the most
spiritually fruitful people in the world, if we are good ground fully receptive to the seed of God's Word.
Jesus describes two kinds of good ground: good ground with or without thorns (Mt 13:22-23). Many
Christians have received the seed of God's Word and are deep in their faith so that the Word can be deeply
rooted in them. Nevertheless, this good ground may be fruitless if the thorns of "worldly anxiety and the
lure of money" choke God's Word (Mt 13:22).
We who read the Scriptures can do so much for the world. Our potential for bearing good fruit is
astounding, but we must be very careful not to grow thorns. If we live "at the level of the flesh"
(Eph 2:3), we will grow word-choking thorns.
Consequently, "those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires"
(Gal 5:24).
Through repentance and through receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, let us burn away the thorns. Let
us resist temptations and let nothing but the seed of God's Word penetrate our hearts. Be thornless and
fruitful.

Prayer: Father, may I lose my desire to be rich and to maximize my pleasures.

Promise: "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but shall do
My will, achieving the end for which I sent it." -Is 55:11

Praise: Father, thank You for confirming Jesus' divinity, whom You "endorsed in the sight of all by
raising Him from the dead" (see Acts 17:31).

THE THORNY QUESTION
"But what was sown on good soil is the man who hears the message and takes it in. He it is who bears a yield of a hundred- or sixty- or thirtyfold." —Matthew 13:23

We who read One Bread, One Body pray and study God’s written Word every day. We will be among the most spiritually fruitful people in the world, if we are good ground fully receptive to the seed of God’s Word.
Jesus describes two kinds of good ground: good ground with or without thorns (Mt 13:22-23). Nevertheless, this good ground may be fruitless if the thorns of “worldly anxiety and the lure of money” choke God’s Word (Mt 13:22).
