Peter, his name was...

Dear Peter,

Our Mystery Man for the week was Robert Frost,
a popular American poet and a recipient of four Pulitzer awards.

Here's one last quote from Robert Frost:

"The first thing I do in the morning is to make my bed and while
I am making up my bed I am making up my mind as to
what kind of a day I am going to have."

Peter, your Daily Target Praxis will help you
become more efficient by preparing your mind for the day ahead.

Do it now by logging in to the simple•ology WebCockpit at:

ALL-CALL

"I will heal their defection, I will love them freely." —Hosea 14:5

The Christian life is all or nothing. The first commandment is: "You shall
love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all
your mind, and with all your strength" (Mk 12:30). This is the basis of
the law and the prophets and of the whole Christian life. Because
Christianity is a matter of giving our "all" to the Lord, we all can be
Christians. No matter how weak and limited we are, we all have an "all."

Because the Christian life is a matter of giving our all, we all can live
it right now. No matter how big a mess we've made of our lives, we all
have an all, always. Christianity is available to all who will give all,
always. However, if we invest any of our time, money, or energy into
something other than God's will, we've squandered our all, and only have a
part. Then we can't obey the first commandment of Christianity, and we
can't obtain the precious pearl of God's kingdom, for it costs all that we
have (Mt 13:46).

However, if we repent of giving something to anything other than the Lord,
we get our all back so we can then give it to the Lord. During this Lent,
look at the all of the crucified Jesus. He gave His all and wants our all
because He loves us unconditionally, sacrificially, and eternally. Give
Him your life in return — all of it.

Prayer: Father, I surrender to Your love the one thing I've held back for
myself.

Promise: "Return, O Israel, to the Lord, your God; you have collapsed
through your guilt. Take with you words, and return to the Lord." —Hos
14:2-3

Nothing is permanent but God's grace

Source: David Jeremiah

Many people today feel their heart has been tattooed or branded with a record of their sins, like the "A" the adulterous woman had to wear in Nathaniel Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter, or the old brand of a slave or criminal.

Today people bear no outward symbols revealing their sin, but their heart is seared with what they've done. Every thought of their past failures feels like a white-hot branding iron, burning a giant "W" for Wretch on their heart.

That's what slave-trader John Newton felt like during the crisis period of his own conversion. He had trafficked in human cargo, been responsible for the deaths of innocent Africans in trans-Atlantic voyages, caused families to be broken up, parents and children to be separated. Besides his slave-trading sins, he had lived a totally reprobate lifestyle. He was an incorrigible sinner and encouraged others to be the same.

The line from his now famous hymn, "Amazing Grace," "that saved a wretch like me," was not for effect. That is exactly how John Newton saw himself—a wretch who had sinned beyond the reach of God's grace.

Newton had one thing right and one thing wrong. Slave trading was a despicable sin, to be sure. But the apostle James wrote that whoever keeps the whole law, yet stumbles in one point, is guilty of breaking all the law (James 2:10). So from God's perspective, left to himself, John Newton was a wretch—and so am I, and so are you.

When it comes to being a branded sinner, there are no "degrees" of sin or "acceptable" sins. All it takes is one sin to keep us out of heaven, to separate us from the presence of the holy God who created us. All of us deserve to have a giant "W" branded on our hearts forever.

The Cleansed Heart
But that brings up what John Newton had wrong: No sin is permanent. Not his, not mine, and not yours. The only thing that is permanent is the grace of God!

Today, people try to cover their branded hearts with outward shows of success and status and superiority. Like covering a tattoo with a T-shirt, it's only a temporary solution. Only one thing can remove the brand of sin from the human heart, and that is the amazing grace of God.

Jeremiah 17:9 is perhaps the most succinct statement ever penned about the human heart. It says the heart is wicked (or wretched):

"The heart is more deceitful than anything else and desperately sick—who can understand it?" (HCSB)

"The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?" (NLT)

"The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out." (The Message)

"Who can understand the human heart? There is nothing else so deceitful; it is too sick to be healed." (GNT)

Several hundred years later, the apostle Paul penned the antidote to Jeremiah's woeful lament about the human heart: "But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more" (Romans 5:20b). Sin is not the greatest thing nor a permanent thing. The only thing greater, the only thing that can remove sin permanently, is the amazing grace of God!

From Wretched to Redeemed
I don't know how you see your heart today. You may think it has been permanently branded with whatever sin you have committed. Maybe you think it has a big "U" branded on it for unfaithful, unworthy, unlikely, undeserving, or unwilling. But, the brands on your heart from the past or present don't matter. They are not permanent! The only thing that is permanent is the grace of God that is greater than all of your sin and mine.

Christ can come into your heart and change that "S" brand from Sinner to Saint . . . to Saved . . . to Set Apart . . . to Sanctified for the Lord. Jesus transferred the brands from your heart to the palms of His hands, marks that will identify Him forever as the One who set you free from the past—the One who changed your heart from Wretched to Redeemed.

ONE HELL OF A LENT - One Bread, One Body, 2/28/2008

ONE HELL OF A LENT

"If it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of
God is upon you." —Luke 11:20

Lent is imitating Jesus as He fasted forty days in the desert. Here Jesus
defeated Satan by overcoming his temptations. During this Lent, we too
should be overcoming Satan's temptations. Furthermore, by repentance and
healing, we can be totally freed from any demonic manipulation or
influences in our lives. Then we can attack Satan and drive him out of
those around us (see Lk 11:14). We can disarm and despoil him (Lk 11:22).
Finally, we can destroy Satan's strongholds in our society and world (2
Cor 10:4).

Every day of Lent should mark another catastrophe for Satan. Systems he
has painstakingly developed for generations and centuries will be
destroyed within a few hours. Satan will be furious as he sees thousands
of his demons vanquished by weak human beings empowered by the very Spirit
of God.

Understandably, Satan dreads Lent. It brings back memories of the "bad old
days" when he was definitively defeated by Jesus Christ. Lent is not only
a time for "refreshing" Satan's memory, but also an opportunity to give
him new memories of defeat at the praying hands of Jesus' disciples. This
Lent, "quickly crush Satan" under your feet (Rm 16:20).

Prayer: Father, give me a good, old-fashioned, Satan-stomping Lent.

Promise: "Jesus was casting out a devil which was mute, and when the devil
was cast out the dumb man spoke." —Lk 11:14

Praise: When Robert remembers how Jesus set him free from his addiction,
he cannot help but tell others (Acts 4:20).

Baptismal Promises", or order our tapes "Baptismal Promises," a four-tape

LAW-LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 2/27/2008

LAW-LOVE

"Whoever breaks the least significant of these commands and teaches others
to do so shall be called least in the kingdom of God. Whoever fulfills and
teaches these commands shall be great in the kingdom of God." —Matthew
5:19

We often view God's laws in a stupid, adolescent way. We see them as mere
prohibitions or burdens. However, His laws are lifesaving insights into
life. For example, we can learn that contraceptive marital sexual
relations will undermine a marriage by causing alienation between the
spouses and often divorce. We can learn this from God's law and use this
revelation to protect and nurture marriage (Catechism, 2370), or we can
learn this by having our hearts broken through many years of marital
conflict. How many people have proven the truth of God's law by not
following it, and thereby turned their lives into experiments that have
failed miserably?

How precious is God's law! It is worth more than thousands of gold and
silver pieces (Ps 119:72). It is a lamp to our feet and light to our path
(Ps 119:105). Even the smallest part of a letter of God's law is to be
cherished and lovingly obeyed (see Mt 5:18).

Observe God's law "carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your
wisdom and intelligence to the nations, who will hear of all these
statutes and say, 'This great nation is truly a wise and intelligent
people' " (Dt 4:6).

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to me so that I can obey and live the
law of the Spirit (Rm 8:2).

Promise: "Hear the statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to
observe, that you may live, and may enter in and take possession of the
land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you." —Dt 4:1

Praise: Once John learned why Sunday Mass was so vital, he not only goes
to Mass weekly but has made it a priority to attend daily Mass.

He Wants To Live Through You
Dr. Bill Gillham, www.lifetime.org

"If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him" (Romans 8:9b).

When you turned toward Jesus to become a Christian, the "Spirit of Christ" (Holy Spirit) entered into you. Why did Jesus come into you? Why didn't Jesus come before you so He could lead you (some say that's His function); or beside you so you could lean on Him when you grow weary (some say this is His function); or behind you to give you a jump start when you need help (others claim this is His job), or perhaps under you to carry you when you can't make it on your own (as the poem "In His Steps" teaches)?

It's because Jesus is the only One who ever has or who ever will live the life which is pleasing to the Father, and He is to express His life through you on a moment-by-moment basis. Christ's life alone gets God's Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. Everything else is trashed.

It's presumptuous of any person to think he can emulate the life of Christ.

God doesn't want to "help" you live on earth any more than He wanted to "help" you get saved. He did it all for you then: He's made provision through Christ to do it all for you now. This way God, not you, gets the honor (glory).

Salvation is all of God, nothing of man. Guys, the Christian life is to be experienced in exactly the same way it's begun. He wants to do it all for you, through you. In this way He gets just as much glory (credit) for saving you from the hell of life as He does for saving you from the hell of death, and He gets to build the intimate, bonding relationship with you which He longs for.

He died to attain this relationship with you! Imagine that! Please don't continue in your independent self-sufficiency, naively believing that this is pleasing to the Father, that He is proud of your strength. He's covered this in His love letter: "They will be held guilty, they whose strength is their god" (Habakkuk
1:11).

Your personal strength is His enemy. It keeps you from intimate fellowship with Him.

"THE PATH TO PEACE" (Lk 19:42)

"Your ways, O Lord, make known to me; teach me Your paths." —Psalm 25:4

God first taught His ways to His people by giving them His Ten
Commandments (Ex 20:1ff). His people lost their way, so God "tried again"
(Jer 18:4). He sent them prophets to teach them His ways, and promised to
write His laws and ways upon their hearts (Jer 31:33). God's people
struggled to grasp His ways (Is 55:8).

God's next step was to send Jesus as a Teacher to teach us His ways and
paths (Jn 3:16). Jesus taught us that God's way is to forgive repeatedly
from the heart (Mt 18:35). Next, Jesus personally made known to us God's
paths. He shouldered His cross and walked up the path to Calvary. In so
doing, Jesus taught us God's path, the path of forgiveness, and God's way,
the way of the cross. Like all good teachers, Jesus then summarized His
lesson on God's way of forgiveness as He hung from His cross, saying,
"Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34).
Jesus forgave those who were hurting Him far more than seventy times seven
times (Mt 18:22). He forgives all sinners for all time.

The lesson "is finished" (Jn 19:30). Now it's time for the final exam. The
Lord is testing you in the heat of the Lenten desert to determine if you
are sincere about following His ways and His paths (see Dt 8:2; 13:4). As
part of the forgiveness test, the Lord sends into your life people close
enough to be able to hurt you more than seven times, such as a family
member, associate, relative, or boss (Mt 18:21). Will you forgive them
repeatedly from your heart? Follow the narrow path and pass the
forgiveness test.

Prayer: Father, forgive me my trespasses in the same manner that I forgive
those who trespass against me (Mt 6:12).

Promise: "Good and upright is the Lord; thus He shows sinners the
way." —Ps 25:8

Praise: Theresa keeps on believing in Love, no matter how many times her
acts of love seem to have no effect.

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

"Now I know..." —2 Kings 5:15

As sovereign ruler of the nation, King Joram of Israel was in the right
position to know God's power. He had access to any information he needed.
Maybe he had too much information: when Naaman approached him to find
God's healing, Joram presumed the king of Aram wanted to provoke him (2
Kgs 5:7). As a captured slave, the little orphaned, pre-teen girl was
seemingly not in a position to know the power and strength of God. Guess
which of the two knew that there was a healing prophet in the land of
Israel? God reveals to the childlike what He hides from the wise and the
learned (Lk 10:21).

As commander of the Aramean army, Naaman had the intellect and resources
to understand the regional geography and the probability of pure water in
Aram and Israel (2 Kgs 5:12). Naaman's servants probably knew only what
they needed to know to perform menial tasks. Guess who understood the
relationship between humility and healing?

Certainly God wants our minds to develop and be renewed (Rm 12:2), since
He wants us to love Him with all our mind (Lk 10:27). However, God's ways
are not our ways (Is 55:8-9). If a person with terminal cancer or AIDS
asked you to pray with them for God's healing today, how would you react?
Would you be flustered and threatened like Joram, angered like Naaman, or
would you be as ready as Naaman's servants? Get humble. Get ready. Receive
"the mind of Christ" (1 Cor 2:16).

Prayer: Father, may I humble myself and thus "be ever ready" to lead
people to You (1 Pt 3:15).

Promise: "Send forth Your light and Your fidelity; they shall lead me
on." —Ps 43:3

Praise: Being in the powerful position of CEO of a major company, Bob
humbles himself to receive Jesus daily in the Eucharist.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

correcting, reproving, appealing — constantly teaching and
never losing patience" (2 Tm 4:2).

My editorial ministry is to spread the word of Christ through
Presentation Ministries to all that will hear. We, you and I,

P.S. As of 16-Feb-2008, I have received requests for 48
sample eNewsletters. Thats a good start. Praise Jesus!

February 24th, the third Sunday of Lent.

Jesus, this week we really need the staying power of the
Holy Spirit.

We need His consistancy and His perserverance.

Some of us are getting tired of Lent and the changes that
we are trying to make.

We see failure and not gain, we want to relax and enjoy,
and have fun in life.

How quickly we forget, oh! Jesus, that only in You, and
You alone, will we ever have real joy and peace in our hearts.

We really want to be religious, but the trials and tribulations
of the world are very demanding, and our responsibilities
are always there to remind us of our life.

Jesus, give us the grace to see beyond the present, and see
the unsurpassing glory to come, when we enter into Your
heavenly kingdom.

Let us kow in our hearts that this glory will last forever and
ever.

Let us realize that we are really just pilgrims on the
highway to heaven, and give us the continual aids and
graces, that we need to make this journey to our heavenly
home land.

Thank you Jesus, Amen and Amen.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday MASS-EVANGELIZATION

http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=2/24/2008

"Through His own spoken word many more came to faith."
—John 4:41

Jesus stayed in a Samaritan town for two days and
dramatically transformed that town. Many people believed
in Jesus "on the strength" of the Samaritan woman's word
and "many more came to faith" through Jesus' own spoken
word (Jn 4:39, 41). Jesus wants to convert not only
individuals but whole cities, countries, races, populations,
businesses, schools, and neighborhoods.

This is difficult for us in the USA to believe. We don't even
see many individuals converted, let alone towns, villages,
or countries. Nevertheless, 120,000 Ninevites repented in
one day (Jon 4:11). A second Samaritan town was converted
to the Lord at the preaching of the apostles (Acts 8:14ff).
Three thousand people were baptized on the first
Pentecost (Acts 2:41). "All the inhabitants of Lydda and
Sharon...were converted to the Lord" (Acts 9:35).

Jesus has converted, is converting, and will convert large
numbers to Himself. In Africa and China today, it's common
to see large numbers and whole villages come to the Lord.
We must walk by faith in His word and not by our sight or
our limited and limiting experience (see 2 Cor 5:7). We must
focus on God's sovereignty and grace and not on our
problems or our weaknesses. Jesus promised: "I — once
I am lifted up from earth — will draw all men to Myself"
(Jn 12:32). Jesus is still doing this with all His perfect love
and awesome power.

O, THE BLOOD OF JESUS!
"It is in Christ and through His blood that we have been

Picture Jesus hanging on the cross, blood coming out of
His nailed hands and feet, blood dripping down His face from
His thorn-crowned head, blood seeping out His shredded
back after having been whipped and scourged. One drop of
the blood of Jesus can wash away every sin that has, or
will be committed. One drop of the blood of Jesus can wash
away wars, nuclear bombing, holocausts, abortion, hatred,

from being forgiven is our refusal to repent and confess them.

Pope Benedict XVI

St. Augustine's teachings are relevant even today, says
Pope Benedict
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=11838

Vatican City, Feb 20, 2008 / 10:59 am (CNA).- At today's
general audience Pope Benedict XVI returned to his catechesis
on St. Augustine of Hippo saying that his works are able to
teach Catholics even now. Before going into the Paul VI
audience hall, the Pope greeted an overflow crowd of pilgrims
gathered in St. Peter's Basilica.

St. Augustine, the Holy Father began, was "a great witness
of Christ, much loved by my predecessors and whom I also
have studied and meditated upon often. He is the Father of
the Church who has left us the most works, some of which
are of vital importance for the history of Christianity."

Benedict XVI turned to Augustine's "Confessions" first,
saying that in them "we can follow, step by step, the inner
journey of this extraordinary man who was passionate about
God".

"On the City of God" was "a decisive work for the
development of Western political thought and in the history
of Christian theology". It was written between 413 and 416
to respond to the accusations made by pagans who ascribed
the sack of Rome in 410 to the Christian God and the
apostles who could not protect the city, while under the
pagan divinities Rome was the "head of the world"
("caput mundi") and it was unthinkable that it could have
fallen into enemy hands.

As the Pope explained, many ......................

LENT 2008

LENT AND ALMSGIVING

This year ... I wish to spend some time reflecting on the
practice of almsgiving, which represents a specific way to
assist those in need and, at the same time, an exercise in
self-denial to free us from attachment to worldly goods.

"THE FORCE OF ATTRACTION"

The force of attraction to material riches and just how
categorical our decision must be not to make of them an
idol, Jesus confirms in a resolute way: "You cannot serve
God and mammon" (Lk 16:13).

GUILT RIDDANCE - One Bread, One Body, 2/23/2008

Saturday, February 23, 2008, St. Polycarp

GUILT RIDDANCE

"Who is there like You, the God Who removes guilt?" —Micah 7:18

In today's eucharistic Scriptures, the Lord throws our repented sins far
into the ocean, into the very depths of the sea (Mi 7:19). Then He puts up
a huge sign marked: "No Swimming!" Yet some of us don't really understand
God's amazing love. We put on a spiritual wetsuit, dive into the ocean to
retrieve our guilt, and spend years feeling guilty for having caused God
and others so many problems. We're more comfortable in our prison of guilt
than in being set free by Jesus.

The Lord doesn't want us to move back into prison after He's set us free.
He grabs the guilt we recovered from the sea and tramples it under His
feet (Mi 7:19). Jesus is serious. He really doesn't want us to take back
that guilt. At this point, some of us are tempted to feel guilty about
feeling guilty. This is why Jesus tells the story about the prodigal son.
Jesus wants to see the guilty party — with music and celebration (Lk
15:23, 25).

When we're truly set free from our prison of guilt, however, not everyone
rejoices. People want to put us back into our prison cell. When Jesus
removes and tramples our guilt, we are free indeed! (Jn 8:36) Don't pay
attention to what others think. Instead, focus on what Jesus thinks. We
must "fix [our] eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1). If He is for us, who can be
against us? (Rm 8:31) If Jesus alone rejoices to see us free from guilt,
then our opponents are outnumbered. "So stand firm, and do not take on
yourselves the yoke of slavery" and guilt "a second time" (Gal 5:1).

Prayer: Jesus, may all prisoners come to know in the core of their being
the depths of Your mercy and compassion for them.

Promise: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He put our
transgressions from us." —Ps 103:12

Praise: St. Polycarp calmly accepted martyrdom at age eighty-six after
living a life totally devoted to his Lord.

Retreat Center Building Project

  Presentation Ministries

February, 2008

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ:

We are in the midst of a huge building project at the Paul Jansen Discipleship Retreat Center that has been stalled since Fr. Al died in 2002. The project includes a chapel and 40 dorm rooms. We have been praying that this project will be completed by October 13, 2008, the sixth anniversary of Fr. Al's death.

Fr. Al desired the Paul Jansen Discipleship Center to be the primary campus of Guadalupe Bible College (GBC) which he also established. The retreats given at the Center are part of the GBC curriculum, along with the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Church and Papal documents.

Now is the time to move ahead with this project in order to prepare for the flood of souls the Lord will be sending to us to disciple and, in turn, be sent forth to the nations. The Holy Spirit has been telling us to get ready and be prepared. Now we must act. The project is well over half finished, but it will probably take almost a million dollars to complete it if we have to pay for all the labor and materials. Currently we have close to $100,000 in our building fund and we need approximately another $900,000.

Fr. Al always said "let your needs be known and trust in the Lord to meet those needs." Recently, the directors were pleased to accept a $20,000 donation from an individual (who wishes to remain anonymous) earmarked for the final construction of the Paul Jansen Discipleship Center. Specifically this money and matching funds collected will be used to complete the heating and ventilation systems of the building, a $160,000 expense. Is the Lord asking you to help us meet this expense with a matching donation?

This anonymous donor told the directors that even more money could be available if they could raise matching donations. We trust that God will provide! We need your prayers, your gifts, and your treasure as the Lord leads you!

Jesus we trust in you!
