FIELD OF DREAMS?

"The field is the world." -Matthew 13:38

The field is the world. "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son" to give up all that He owned, purchase that field, and die in agony on His cross so the field and its inhabitants might not perish, but have everlasting life (Jn 3:16; Mt 13:44).

The field is full of people. Jesus loves all people, for they are made in His image and likeness (Gn 1:27). To Jesus, this field of humanity is a treasure. He gave all He had to purchase this field (Mt 13:44). Jesus treasures us, and where His treasure lies, there His heart is (Lk 6:45).

Jesus, Emmanuel, God-with-us (Mt 1:23), made His dwelling among us when we were weeds (Jn 1:14). Like a grain of wheat, He fell to the ground and died to bear the fruit (Jn 12:24) of changed lives. He died to change former sinful weeds like us into wheat.

Since Jesus died for us when we were sinners (Rm 5:8), why should we get upset when we have to live in a world full of weed-like sinners? (Mt 13:38) We need not be discouraged. If Jesus treasures sinners so much as to die for them, then as disciples of Jesus, we must do the same. Ask Jesus for His heart, so as to treasure the sinful weeds in our midst. We too must die to ourselves and do whatever it takes, so that at least some might be transformed and saved (see 1 Cor 9:19).

Thank God forever that Jesus loved us when we were sinful and unlovable. Thank God that Jesus treasured us when we weren't so appealing. "Go and do the same" (Lk 10:37).

Prayer: Prayer: Jesus, Master Gardener, change me from a weed-whacker to a weed-feeder. Reap a harvest of faith through me.

Promise: Promise: "As the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is His kindness toward those who fear Him." -Ps 103:11

Praise: Praise: St. Alphonsus taught that God is ever beside you; indeed, He is even within you (see Jn 6:56; 17:23).

LEADING MEN - One Bread, One Body, 7/31/2017

Monday, July 31, 2017, St. Ignatius of Loyola

Exodus 32:15-24, 30-34, Psalm 106:19-23, Matthew 13:31-35

LEADING MEN

"What did this people ever do to you that you should lead them into so grave a sin?" -Exodus 32:21

Aaron's leadership style was to satisfy the people. When the people approached him with a problem, Aaron didn't consider God's wishes. Instead, he tried to satisfy the people's desires. Not succeeding, he simply "let the people run wild" (Ex 32:25). Under Aaron's weak "leadership," sinfulness, chaos, and confusion reigned instead of godly order (see 1 Cor 14:33, 40).

Diotrephes, an early Christian leader, "enjoyed" being a Church leader (see 3 Jn 9). He loved to dominate (3 Jn 9, RNAB). His leadership style apparently consisted in trying to satisfy himself (see 3 Jn 9, RSV-CE). Diotrephes is not presented in Scripture as seeking to determine God's wishes. Instead, he arbitrarily refused to acknowledge Church authority established by God and expelled those who wished to submit to it (3 Jn 10).

Moses was a true servant-leader (see Lk 22:26). He exercised his God-given authority as needed (Ex 32:26), but typically was meek (Nm 12:3) as he listened to his people's needs (e.g. Ex 18:13). His leadership style was to satisfy God and sacrificially love his people. He constantly sought God's direction as he submitted his leadership to God (Ex 34:34). He interceded on behalf of his beloved people, even if he might have to suffer because of it (see Ex 32:10-14, 32).

Is God calling you to be a leader? Seek God's wishes. Answer His call. "With a leader to break the path they shall burst open the gate and go out through it" (Mi 2:13).

Prayer: Father, may we obey the leaders You give us and defer to them so they may rejoice in serving You (Heb 13:17).

Promise: "I will announce what has lain hidden since the creation of the world." -Mt 13:35

Praise: St. Ignatius, a wounded soldier, converted to faith in Jesus while reading the lives of the saints during his convalescence.

PM eNewsletter 17th Sunday in ordinary time

July 30th 17th Sunday in ordinary time

Jesus, this week the church celebrates the feast day of St. John Vianney, the cure d' ars.

A man who perservered in his strong desire to serve You as a priest.

In spite of many hardships, he finally was ordained and immediately started to bring
people to give all honor and glory to You, through mass and adoration of Your blessed Body
and Blood.

He listened to confessions for up to 18 hours a day, and yet never failed to take care of
all of his parishioners.

He is the patron of all priests, so Jesus, let us through his intercessions, pray for all
of our priests.

Let our prayers bring down grace to make them all holy priests, and shepherds dedicated to
You, and to us the sheep of your flock.

Let them lead us in worship, not only through the mass, but also through adoration of Your
eucharistic presence.

Let them focus on all of our pilgrimages to eternal life, and let them be intercessors for
grace to help guide us.

Let them be devoted to the church and to Mary our mother, let their lives give witness of
Your love.

Thank you Jesus, for the sacrament that calls all priests to dedicate their lives to
service to You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday CLOSE IS NOT IN
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/30/2017

"The reign of God is like a buried treasure which a man found in a field." -Matthew 13:44

Just because we're in the Lord's dragnet doesn't mean He will retain us at the end of the
world (Mt 13:47ff). Just because we're in the Lord's field, it doesn't mean we are God's
wheat. We may be weeds to be burned (Mt 13:40). Just because we go to church doesn't mean
we are automatically living in God's kingdom. Doing Christian things and living in the
midst of Christians doesn't make us Christians (see Lk 13:26-27).

We are Christians and followers of Jesus, the King of the kingdom, when we sell all that we
have to buy God's kingdom (Mt 13:44, 46). We are living life in Christ when we, by faith,
give our lives to Jesus, and are no longer living for ourselves but for Him Who died and
rose from the dead for us (2 Cor 5:15; Gal 2:20). Being close to Christians doesn't make us
Christians, but being close to and in Christ makes us Christians.

To those merely active in Christian activities but not living in Him, Jesus will say: "I
never knew you. Out of My sight, you evildoers!" (Mt 7:23) To those living for Him alone,
Jesus will say: "Come. You have My Father's blessing! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the creation of the world" (Mt 25:34). Live in His kingdom.

Prayer: Father, may I seek first Your kingdom and Your way of righteousness (Mt 6:33).

Promise: "We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love" Him.
-Rm 8:28

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! Your broken body has multiplied our healing. Praise You,
Lamb of God, for shepherding us with Your love.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

TRANSFORMED BY THE SPIRIT

BASIS OF JUDGMENT

We will be judged, not on our praise but on what we have done for Jesus. "Lord, when
did we do this to You? When you did it for one of these little ones, you did it to Me"
(cf Mt 25:39-40)

"THE CHURCH COUNTS ON YOU"

Thank you, Catholic Charismatic Renewal, for what you have given to the Church in these
fifty years! The Church counts on you, on your fidelity to God's word, on your readiness
to serve, and on your testimony of lives transformed by the Holy Spirit!

HIGH EXPECTATIONS

To share baptism in the Holy Spirit with everyone in the Church, to praise the Lord
unceasingly, to walk together with Christians of different Churches and Ecclesial
Communities in prayer and activity on behalf of those in greatest need, to serve the
poor and the sick. This is what the Church and the Pope expect from you, Catholic
Charismatic Renewal, but also from everyone here: all of you who have become part of
this flood of grace.

BLOOD REPLACEMENT - One Bread, One Body, 7/29/2017

Saturday, July 29, 2017, St. Martha

Exodus 24:3-8, Psalm 50:1-2, 5-6, 14-15, John 11:19-27 or, Matthew 13:24-30

BLOOD REPLACEMENT

"This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words of His." -Exodus 24:8

We have made a covenant of blood with God. Because life is in the blood (Lv 17:11), we have made a covenant of life with God. Our covenant with God is literally a matter of life and death. Because we have broken the covenant by our sins, we forfeit our lives and are doomed to destruction.

Almost two thousand years ago, shortly before His death on the cross, Jesus celebrated the Passover and the first Mass, at which He said: "This is My blood, the blood of the covenant, to be poured out in behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins" (Mt 26:28). Then Jesus shed His blood by dying on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus substituted His blood and His life for ours. He took on our consequences for our breaking the covenant and freed us from destruction.

Traditionally, the month of July has been marked as a special time for praising the blood of Jesus, although it's fitting to praise His blood every day. So let us joyfully praise the blood of Jesus by receiving His body and blood in Holy Communion, by applying His blood through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, by reading about His blood in the Scriptures, and by bringing up His blood in our prayer and other conversations. Praise the blood of Jesus!

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to teach me "the wonder-working power of the blood of the Lamb."

Promise: "Offer to God praise as your sacrifice and fulfill your vows to the Most High." -Ps 50:14

Praise: St. Martha exercised both her gift of hospitality and her ability to listen to and trust in the Lord.

ROBBED BLIND - One Bread, One Body, 7/28/2017

ROBBED BLIND

"The evil one approaches him to steal away what was sown in his mind." -Matthew 13:19

How much of God's Word have you heard over the years at home, in church and school, through reading and teaching? How much of God's Word do you know and live? The difference in the answer to these two questions shows us how much the evil one has robbed us. Many of us have been exposed to God's Word for years but have little to show for it. The devil has literally robbed us blind. We don't even report it to the authorities or call for help. We merely resign ourselves to Satan daily robbing us of the Word of life.

God's Word tells us: "Submit to God; resist the devil and he will take flight" (Jas 4:7). We can despoil the robber and take back all that the devil has stolen (Lk 11:22). We will remember things from God's Word we haven't thought of for years. We will apply Scripture so as to be holy in every aspect of our lives (1 Pt 1:15). We do this by faith in Jesus Christ, expressed in prayer and obedience. Jesus knows how to prevent the devil's thievery. We only need to know that we need Jesus to "deliver us from the evil one'' (Mt 6:13). Jesus will not only sow the seed but guard it.

Prayer: Jesus, I've been robbed several thousand times. Please recover the stolen goods.

Promise: "Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you." -Ex 20:12

Praise: Reading the papal encyclicals helps build George's faith as he sees how the Gospel is applied to the modern world.

THE MOST BLESSED - One Bread, One Body, 7/27/2017

Thursday, July 27, 2017

Exodus 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20, Daniel 3:52-56, Matthew 13:10-17

THE MOST BLESSED

"To you has been given a knowledge of the mysteries of the reign of God, but it has not been given to the others." -Matthew 13:11

Less than one-third of the people on earth have been baptized into the Church and have become children of God. If you are in that number, consider yourself very blest.

Less than one-fifth of the world has received Holy Communion - even once. A smaller percentage of these people have the opportunity of going to Mass weekly. Less than one-percent of the world go to Mass and Holy Communion daily. If you have received Communion, if you can go to Mass without traveling for hours or days, how "blest are your eyes because they see and blest are your ears because they hear" (Mt 13:16).

If you have ever read part of the Bible, held the Bible in your hands, or even own a Bible, you are a minority in the world. Hundreds of millions would love to trade places with you. Jesus declares: "I assure you, many a prophet and many a saint longed to see what you see but did not see it, to hear what you hear but did not hear it" (Mt 13:17).

I could go on, but I'll leave it to you to count your blessings further. It is safe to say that you are probably among the most blessed people in history. "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48).

Prayer: Father, may my beatitudes inspire an attitude of thanksgiving and responsibility.

Promise: "The trumpet blast grew louder and louder, while Moses was speaking and God answering him with thunder." -Ex 19:19

Praise: Martin blesses his family by leading them in worship in his parish and at home, that is, their domestic church.

FARM WORK - One Bread, One Body, 7/26/2017

Wednesday, July 26, 2017, Sts. Joachim & Ann

Exodus 16:1-5, 9-15, Psalm 78:18-19, 23-28, Matthew 13:1-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072617.cfm

FARM WORK

"One day a farmer went out..." -Matthew 13:4

The kingdom of God is like breaking ground. The ground may be rock, a footpath (Mt 13:4), or just rocky (Mt 13:5). In our post-Christian, anti-Christian culture of death, groundbreaking is a major task. We can break open the hardest ground and hardest hearts by obeying the Lord. Often He calls us to pray and fast, prophesy, and suffer redemptively. These are principal ways in which the Lord lets us join in groundbreaking.

The kingdom of God involves not only breaking ground but also clearing ground of the thorns, which are worldly desires hindering our growth in the Lord (see Mt 13:7). We can help clear ground by repenting of compromising with the ways of the world (see Mt 13:22). In this way, we crucify our ''flesh with its passions and desires" (Gal 5:24) and help others do the same.

In God's kingdom, we work not only with types and conditions of ground; we also work with fruit. We can increase our fruitfulness from thirty- or sixtyfold to a hundredfold (Mt 13:8), and help others do the same by yielding completely to the Holy Spirit (see Gal 5:22-23, 25).

Farmers for Jesus, break ground, clear ground, and increase the yield of fruit. Farm for Jesus.

Prayer: Father, may I put in a good day's work each day on Your farm (see 1 Cor 3:8-9).

Promise: "I will now rain down bread from heaven for you." -Ex 16:4

Praise: Sts. Joachim and Ann accepted God's call to marry and raise a child. They dedicated their daughter to God, and He blessed her among all women.

THE CONTINUAL, CONSTANT CROSS - One Bread, One Body, 7/25/2017

Tuesday, July 25, 2017, St. James

2 Corinthians 4:7-15, Psalm 126:1-6, Matthew 20:20-28
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072517.cfm

THE CONTINUAL, CONSTANT CROSS

"Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus." -2 Corinthians 4:10

Although James and John wanted prosperity and success, Jesus wanted them to take up the cross (see Mt 20:22ff). Jesus invites us not only to suffer in the pattern of His death (Phil 3:10) but even to be crucified with Him (see Gal 2:19). Furthermore, He calls us to make the cross not only an occasional moment in our lives but to "continually...carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus" (2 Cor 4:10), to "constantly" be "delivered to death for Jesus' sake" (2 Cor 4:11). We are tempted to make our crosses as rare as possible. Yet Jesus wants our crosses to be constant.

When we not only take up the daily cross (Lk 9:23) but also continually and constantly live the cross, we paradoxically reveal "in our bodies the life of Jesus" (2 Cor 4:10). As a grain of wheat which falls to the earth and dies, we bear much fruit (Jn 12:24). We also find joy as we share Christ's sufferings (Col 1:24; 1 Pt 4:13). In joyful fruitfulness, continually and constantly live the cross.

Prayer: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world" (St. Francis of Assisi).

Promise: "Anyone among you who aspires to greatness must serve the rest, and whoever wants to rank first among you must serve the needs of all." -Mt 20:26-27

Praise: St. James was one of the first Christian martyrs (Acts 12:2). He repented of his lack of faith in Jesus and received that love which casts out all fear (1 Jn 4:18) and conquers death.

GRAND STAND - One Bread, One Body, 7/24/2017

Monday, July 24, 2017, St. Sharbel Mahkluf

Exodus 14:5-18, Exodus 15:1-6, Matthew 12:38-42
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072417.cfm

GRAND STAND

"Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the Lord will win for you today." -Exodus 14:13

If we stand our ground, we will see the victory of the Lord, for He will fight for us (Ex 14:14). Moses made this promise before the Lord rescued the chosen people by drowning the Egyptians in the Red Sea. This is a symbol of Baptism.

When we stand on the ground of our Baptism, we will see the Lord's victory. We must stand on the fact that through Baptism we are in Christ. Therefore, we are new creations, children of God the Father, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, temples of the Holy Spirit, and members of the Church, the Body of Christ.

If we stand on the ground of our own power, plans, or importance, we will not see the Lord's victory. Our own basis for victory is groundless.

God's victory comes to those standing on the right ground: God's ground. Many Christians have disregarded God's "no trespassing" signs and stand on the wrong ground. When they repent, get back where they belong, and stand there, they will see God's victory. Back to Baptism. Forward to victory (see Ex 14:15).

Prayer: Father, may I stand where You tell me to stand.

Promise: "At the judgment, the queen of the South will rise with the present generation and be the one to condemn it. She came from the farthest corner of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon; but you have a greater than Solomon here." -Mt 12:42

Praise: Pope Bl. Paul VI declared at St. Sharbel Mahkluf's canonization that he had by his example and his intercession enriched the entire Christian people.

PM eNewsletter 16th Sunday in ordinary time

July 23rd Sixteenth Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates the feast of St. Martha,
who had a great desire to serve You, because of her love for You.

She also had the gift of faith to know that You were the Son of God,
the Messiah.

Martha believed in the resurrection of the dead, and knew that the
Father heard all of Your prayers.

So You showed her Your love by raising her brother from the dead.

Lord, give us the faith to truly know of the resurrection and the
grace to live lives in anticipation of coming home to You at Your call.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE HOLY SPIRIT: PRAYER LEADER
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/23/2017

"We do not know how to pray as we ought." -Romans 8:26

Jesus said there is "the necessity of praying always and not losing heart" (Lk 18:1). We are to
"never cease praying" (1 Thes 5:17). Jesus prayed early in the morning (Mk 1:35) and late at
night (Lk 22:39-41). Because we are His disciples, we imitate Him and pray so much that we are
in the spirit of prayer during all daily activities. Jesus continues to invite us to watch and
pray at least one hour with Him (see Mt 26:40).

Because we communicate with God in prayer, it is obvious that it is a privilege and a necessity
to pray. Nevertheless, we struggle to pray always daily, faithfully, and deeply. The Spirit,
however, "helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit
Himself makes intercession for us" (Rm 8:26).

The Holy Spirit helps us overcome our weakness in prayer in many ways. The Spirit calls us to:

* pray the Mass,
* pray with others (Mt 18:19),
* pray with our spouses,
* pray as a family,
* pray in tongues (1 Cor 14:2),
* pray from the Bible, and
* fast and pray (Mt 17:21, NAB).

The Holy Spirit is praying for you and leading you in prayer. "Since we live by the Spirit, let
us follow the Spirit's lead" (Gal 5:25).

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to transform my prayer life and therefore my life.

Promise: "You gave Your sons good ground for hope that You would permit repentance for their
sins." -Wis 12:19

Praise: He once was dead, but now He lives (Rv 1:18). Jesus is Lord! Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

TRANSFORMED BY THE SPIRIT

GRACE FOR ALL

This flood of grace is for the whole Church, not just for some, and none of us is the
"master" and the others servants. No. We are all servants of this flood of grace.

POWER OF PRAISE

... You constantly remind the Church of the power of prayer of praise. Praise that is
the prayer of gratitude and thanksgiving for God's gracious love.

THREE ESSENTIALS

Baptism in the Holy Spirit, praise, social action. The three things are inseparably
linked. I can give deep thanks, but if I do not help those in need, it is not enough.
"There was not a needy person among them", says the Book of Acts (4:35)

THE HOLY SPIRIT: PRAYER LEADER

"We do not know how to pray as we ought." -Romans 8:26

Jesus said there is "the necessity of praying always and not losing heart" (Lk 18:1). We are to "never cease praying" (1 Thes 5:17). Jesus prayed early in the morning (Mk 1:35) and late at night (Lk 22:39-41). The Spirit, however, "helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us" (Rm 8:26).

I HOPE SO - One Bread, One Body, 7/22/2017

Saturday, July 22, 2017, St. Mary Magdalene

I HOPE SO

"In His name, the Gentiles will find hope." -Matthew 12:21

As we begin the third millennium, with much of the world ensconced in the culture of death after ending the last with the only two world wars in history, the Lord is calling us to hope in Him. The Church through Pope Pius XII defined the doctrine of Mary's Assumption in 1950. After all the centuries this doctrine was preached and believed, the Church chose to define it in 1950 as a proclamation of hope. Vatican II's great document on the Church concludes by proclaiming Mary as the "sign of sure hope'' (Lumen Gentium, 68). Pope St. John Paul II introduced the Catechism of the Catholic Church with the Scripture: "Venerate the Lord, that is, Christ, in your hearts. Should anyone ask you the reason for this hope of yours, be ever ready to reply" (1 Pt 3:15). Pope St. John Paul II prophetically named one of his books Crossing the Threshold of Hope. "In hope we were saved. But hope is not hope if its object is seen; how is it possible for one to hope for what he sees? And hoping for what we cannot see means awaiting it with patient endurance" (Rm 8:24-25).

Hear the prophecy of hope. Be a sign of hope. Be a prophet of hope. "This hope will not leave us disappointed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us" (Rm 5:5).

Prayer: Father, may I be motivated by hope.

Promise: "This was a night of vigil for the Lord, as He led them out of the land of Egypt; so on this same night all the Israelites must keep a vigil for the Lord throughout their generations." -Ex 12:42

Praise: St. Mary Magdalene hoped to find Jesus' body at the tomb and incredibly found the risen Lord. She evangelized the first pope (Jn 20:18).

THE PASSOVER

"It is the Passover of the Lord." -Exodus 12:11

Through the Passover, the Lord freed the Israelite nation from centuries of slavery. The Lord chose to do one of His greatest works through a family meal accompanied by prayer. This Passover meal was so important that it became "a memorial feast" to be celebrated by all generations "as a perpetual institution" (Ex 12:14).

A few hours before Jesus died on the cross to save us all from sin and for eternal life, He said: "With great desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer" (Lk 22:15, our transl.). Then Jesus commanded: "Do this as a remembrance of Me" (Lk 22:19). Jesus connected the Passover with His death on the cross. He made the Eucharist the ultimate Passover.

St. Paul not only identified the Eucharist with the Passover but went so far as to call Jesus our Passover (1 Cor 5:7).

The Passover is the great liberation-feast and the salvation-memorial. How important is the Passover in your life? How great is your desire to celebrate the Passover? Do you want to receive Christ, your Passover, daily? Do you invite others to the new Passover? Is your life centered on the eucharistic Jesus? Celebrate the Passover.

Prayer: Father, may I desire to eat the Passover more than I desire anything else.

Promise: "Seeing the blood, I will pass over you; thus, when I strike the land of Egypt, no destructive blow will come upon you." -Ex 12:13

Praise: St. Lawrence of Brindisi still teaches us in his homilies that fill nine volumes.

REST STOP - One Bread, One Body, 7/20/2017

Thursday, July 20, 2017, St. Apollinaris

REST STOP

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you." -Matthew 11:28

Imagine yourself coming to Jesus with this huge burden on your back. Jesus takes the burden off your shoulders (see Ps 81:7). Before you even can thank Him and walk away unburdened, He takes a humongous burden off of His back and puts it on yours. Now you've got more to carry than ever before. For some reason, however, His yoke is easy and His burden light (Mt 11:30). Because this is Jesus' burden, He is bearing most of the weight. You are another Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry the cross (Lk 23:26). You're made to carry this cross. You're rested and strengthened in carrying this cross. You come to a point where you boast of nothing but the cross of Jesus Christ (Gal 6:14).

Realistically, we cannot be unburdened in this life on earth. We can only be re-burdened with Jesus' burden, the cross. Pretending that we can unburden ourselves makes life more burdensome. We make life harder by trying to make it easier. Paradoxically, the heaviest burden, that is, the cross, is the easiest to carry because Jesus carried it. It is in striving to carry the cross that we enter into His rest (see Heb 4:11). Take up your cross daily (Lk 9:23) and get the best rest you'll get on this earth.

Prayer: Father, give me both earthly and eternal rest.

Promise: "I am concerned about you and about the way you are being treated in Egypt." -Ex 3:16

Praise: After St. Apollinaris was exiled and martyred, many miracles were attributed to him.

MOUNTAIN RANGE

"He came to Horeb, the mountain of God." -Exodus 3:1

There are many mountains in life. For example, Mount Gerizim is the mountain of blessings for God's obedient people, while Mount Ebal is the mountain of curses (Dt 27:12-13). Mount Sinai (Horeb) is the mountain of the commandments (Ex 19:2ff), and Mount Carmel is the mountain of restoring our covenant with God and overcoming idolatry and false prophets (1 Kgs 18:19ff). Ultimately, Jesus wants us to walk with Him to Mount Calvary, by which we draw "near to Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem" (Heb 12:22).

To start climbing God's mountain range, we need to begin as Moses began - on Mount Horeb (Ex 3:1). There we see God in the burning bush (Ex 3:2-4). We see God consuming us by the fire of His love (see Heb 12:29). On Mount Horeb, we hear God call our names (Ex 3:4) and reveal to us His name (Ex 3:14). Mount Horeb is holy ground (Ex 3:5). Here we take off our shoes (Ex 3:5) and humble ourselves. On Mount Horeb, we enter into the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom (Ps 111:10) and of much of the Christian life. On Mount Horeb, God calls us to set His people free.

Climb Mount Horeb. Hear your Father call you by name.

Prayer: Father, after beginning at Horeb, may I end at Zion.

Promise: "No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son - and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him." -Mt 11:27

Praise: Tithing led Anthony to almsgiving and to ever-growing faith.

''I DO NOT NEED YOU'' (1 Cor 12:21)

"There was a baby boy, crying!'' -Exodus 2:6

When we support the elimination of babies by abortion and contraception, we say to these unwanted members of Jesus' body, "I do not need you'' (1 Cor 12:21). Can we even call ourselves Christians if we have so much disdain for Jesus' Body that we don't care if millions of members of His Body are murdered or never given a chance to exist? Can we call ourselves Christians if we have so little regard for Christ's Body that we don't mind if His Body is weakened, disfigured, or paralyzed by the absence of many millions of members worldwide?

Powerful, well-financed organizations reach into every corner of the globe to advance the spread of abortion and contraception. If, as St. Teresa of Avila says, Jesus has no hands but ours and no feet but ours, then His Body on earth is being more and more crippled with the elimination of each child that would have strengthened His Body. We are to honor all members of His Body, but the weakest and smallest we must honor with even greater care (1 Cor 12:22-24).

The Church champions the Body of Christ in her teaching. However, far too many disobey the teachings of the Church. They are pro-choice; they choose to please their own bodies. It doesn't bother them that Jesus' Body is broken as long as their own body doesn't suffer. Catholics, repent of disfiguring the Body of Christ instead of building it up. Christians, oppose abortion and contraception. Jesus asks you, ''Do you love My body?'' (see Jn 21:15) How will you answer Him today? How will you answer Him on Judgment Day?

Prayer: Jesus, this is my body to be given up for You.

Promise: "The Lord hears the poor, and His own who are in bonds He spurns not.'' -Ps 69:34

Praise: St. Camillus ministered to children, the sick, and the dying, all the while suffering himself from various illnesses.

DEATH-DEFYING?

"Look how numerous and powerful the Israelite people are growing, more so than we ourselves! Come, let us deal shrewdly with them to stop their increase." -Exodus 1:9-10

Pharaoh tried to decimate the chosen people by commanding "all his subjects, 'Throw into the river every boy that is born to the Hebrews' " (Ex 1:22). Satan is trying to decimate the Christian people by commanding us to contracept and not have children or, if this fails, to kill our children through chemical and surgical abortions. If we obey Satan's commands, we will perpetuate and extend our culture of death. But if we, like Moses' mother, rebel and choose life, we will see the Lord raise our culture from the dead.

Most people don't recognize Satan's attempts to impose his will on us. Satan disguises the fact that he seeks nothing less than a totalitarian dictatorship. He likes to let his pawns think that they are doing their own thing. It is amusing to him when his slaves pretend they are free.

Therefore, "choose life" (Dt 30:19), and rebel against the tyranny of the prince of death (see Heb 2:14). Choose Jesus, "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Reject sin and its deadly wages (Rm 6:23). Don't let yourself be used and abused by our culture of death. Join the exodus of God's people from death, sin, and damnation into life eternal.

Prayer: Father, I accept fully the abundant life given to me through your Son's death (see Jn 10:10).

Promise: "Whoever gives a cup of cold water to one of these lowly ones because he is a disciple will not want for his reward." -Mt 10:42

Praise: Benjamin and Theresa have adopted several children from Latin America, and have raised them all in the Faith of the Church.

PM eNewsletter 15th Sunday in ordinary time

July 16th 15th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, again and again, we try to walk with You, but our
life gets in the way.

We start to worry and fret, we get anxious and fearful,
instead of just trusting You.

Jesus, give us the grace to truly trust you.

Let us truly realize that we don't have the answer, except You.

You, Christ, are the true answer to all of life, with all
of its twists and turns.

Lord, help us truly realize that You have a plan, we may
not understand it, or even realize it, but Your plan will
work out when You say it will.

Give us the courage to go forward everyday into trusting
You and Your ways.

Keep us in the arms of You and Mary our mother.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday SOW THE WORD CONSTANTLY
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/16/2017

"A farmer went out sowing." -Matthew 13:4

How often have you heard a Scripture passage twenty times and on the twenty-first time you hear
it, the Holy Spirit makes the passage finally "jump off the page"? You receive a profound new
insight into the meaning of the passage. The Word of God comes alive for you.

The Holy Spirit does this work in us. The Spirit is also working the same way in the hearts of
others. That's why we must constantly sow the Word of God (Mt 13:4). The Word that we sow might
be that twenty-first time the Holy Spirit requires to touch a person's heart. Our sowing might
be that juicy bait the Lord uses to finally catch a hungry soul He has been working on for
years (see Lk 5:4). Our evangelizing might be the seed that next year will produce a harvest
thirty-, sixty-, or a hundredfold (Mt 13:8).

A farmer sowing seed can't see what's under the surface of the soil. A fisherman usually can't
see what's under the surface of the water, though sometimes he might get a glimpse. When we
evangelize for Jesus, if we go only by what we see on the surface, we might make a wrong
judgment and decide not to drop a line or plant a seed. We might miss a good catch or a
fruitful harvest, even in an unlikely place, if we don't try to evangelize.

God spreads the seed and the water everywhere in today's readings. God never stops sowing, and
He always gets results (Is 55:11). The Lord doesn't go by what is on the surface
(see 1 Sm 16:7). We must do the same, and sow the Word of God in all places, even those that
seem unlikely for success.

Prayer: Father, I will spread Your Word at all times, whether convenient or inconvenient
(2 Tm 4:2).

Promise: "I consider the sufferings of the present to be as nothing compared to the glory to
be revealed in us." -Rm 8:18

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! You are "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life'' (Jn 14:6).
Alleluia!
