THE JOY OF LENT AND LIFE

"There shall always be rejoicing and happiness in what I create." -Isaiah 65:18

If the Lord creates a calling for you, you can find joy in it. If He calls you to life-long celibacy, you have cause for rejoicing. If the Lord gives you and your spouse ten children, rejoice in the sacrifice of having a large family. When He calls us to repent, we share in the great joy of heaven over one sinner who repents (Lk 15:7). When the Lord gives us the privilege of being persecuted for the Gospel, we should rejoice in the measure we share in His sufferings (1 Pt 4:13).

There's more joy in suffering with Jesus than in having pleasure without Him. True joy depends on this: "Did the Lord create it? Is it His will?" Therefore, joy is not feeling good but obeying the Lord (see Ps 40:9). This makes it possible to rejoice always (1 Thes 5:16). No one and nothing can take our joy from us (Jn 16:22).

We can't always feel good, but we can always obey God and thereby always rejoice. In fact, not only can we rejoice in the Lord but also rejoice with the divine joy of the Lord. We can actually have Jesus' joy (Jn 15:11). Moreover, this divine joy will be our strength (Neh 8:10).

"Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice!" (Phil 4:4)

Prayer: Father, this Lent may the joy in my life reach fever pitch (Acts 8:8).

Promise: "He and his whole household thereupon became believers." -Jn 4:53

Praise: Jesus healed Ron of severe tooth pain.

everything but sin.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LENTEN REBELLION AND REPENTANCE
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/31/2019

"For our sakes God made Him Who did not know sin, to be sin, so that in Him we might become the very
holiness of God." -2 Corinthians 5:21

St. Luke is the only Evangelist who includes the parable of the prodigal son. He was also the only
Gentile Christian to author a Gospel. Most of us reading this reflection are also gentile (non-Jewish)
Christians; possibly we feel a special connection to this Gospel. Sadly, we assuredly relate to this
parable as representative of many dysfunctional families in our midst. "The younger of them said to
his father, 'Father, give me the share of the estate that is coming to me.' So the father divided up
the property. Some days later this younger son collected all his belongings and went off to a distant
land, where he squandered his money on dissolute living" (Lk 15:12-13). We may not be anticipating a
large inheritance, but selfishness and self-centeredness run rampant in our culture. How many of us
have insulted both our fathers and our Father along the way?

As baptized Christians, however, there is no need to lose heart. "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new!" (2 Cor 5:17; cf Rv 21:5) As Catholics, we
are blessed to have the Sacrament of Reconciliation. "All this has been done by God, Who has reconciled
us to Himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Cor 5:18; cf Mt 16:19).

Let us come back home to our heavenly Father, Who has long been looking for us (Lk 15:20). Let us repent
and cause all heaven to rejoice! (Lk 15:7, 10)

Prayer: "I will break away and return to my Father" (Lk 15:18).

Promise: "I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears." -Ps 34:5

Praise: Praise Jesus, Healer of the ill and Raiser from the dead!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

END HUNGER

"EFFECTIVE HELP"

The poor expect from us an effective help that takes them out of their misery... In this twenty-first
century that has seen considerable advances in the field of technology, science, communications and
infrastructure, we ought to feel shame for not having achieved the same advances in humanity and
solidarity, and so satisfy the primary needs of the most disadvantaged.

"WE MUST DO BETTER"

We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to
concrete action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.

WE CAN DO IT

We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become
an action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this
end we need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the
other's problems one's own.

A PROPHETIC SUBSTANCE - One Bread, One Body, 3/30/2019

Saturday, March 30, 2019

Hosea 6:1-6, Psalm 51:3-4, 18-21, Luke 18:9-14
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/033019.cfm

A PROPHETIC SUBSTANCE

"Your piety is like a morning cloud, like the dew that early passes away." -Hosea 6:4

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for" (Heb 11:1, our transl). The Lord wants our relationship with Him to be substantial, not superficial. He wants our relationship with Him to be like a rock and not like dew or the mist of a morning cloud (see Hos 6:4).

To forge a relationship with Him solid enough to withstand the trials of life, the inevitable persecutions of life in Christ, and the challenging immediacy of death, the Lord in His mercy sends prophets to smite us (Hos 6:5). The Lord hits us hard with His prophetic word in order to crucify our "flesh with its passions and desires" (Gal 5:24). The Lord wants us crucified to the world and the world to us (Gal 6:14; see also Gal 2:19). In this dying to self, we change from the superficiality in selfishness to the substance in love.

So let us listen to the prophets and the prophetesses the Lord sends into our lives. The Lord sends us His messages through our family members, those in authority, the poor, the sick, the dying, and even through our enemies.

"Do not despise prophecies" (1 Thes 5:20). Be attentive to "the prophetic message" God is giving (2 Pt 1:19). It is God's way to enable us to have a substantial relationship with Him.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to bear the fruit of love in my life through Your prophetic word.

Promise: "Believe Me, this man went home from the temple justified but the other did not. For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled while he who humbles himself shall be exalted." -Lk 18:14

Praise: Regina works more hours now for God at a volunteer ministry position than she once worked for a salary.

HOW GOD PLANNED FOR US TO LOVE HIM TOTALLY - One Bread, One Body, 3/29/2019

HOW GOD PLANNED FOR US TO LOVE HIM TOTALLY

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." -Mark 12:30

Christianity is not merely about loving God. Before Christ came to earth, many people loved God. Millions of non-Christians throughout the world love God now. Christianity is unlike any other religion, however, because it is about loving God as He is. Only Christians know and believe that God is our Father (Abba), that God is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16), and that God is Trinity: three Persons in one God. Because in Christ we have entered more deeply into the mystery of God, we are in a position to love God more, or even totally, with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds, and all our strength (Mk 12:30).

However, Christ's revelation of God leads us to a total love which is beyond our fallen, self-centered human nature. So the Lord has not only revealed God to us but also has given us a way to receive a new nature in which we share in His divinity (see 2 Pt 1:4). Through Baptism, we receive this new nature capable of total love of God as He is.

In about three weeks, all the Catholics of the world will be invited to renew their baptismal promises. In doing this, we renew our capacity to love totally the all-holy Triune God, Who is Love. Live your last half of Lent accordingly.

Prayer: Father, teach me total love for You as You are.

Promise: "Straight are the paths of the Lord, in them the just walk, but sinners stumble in them." -Hos 14:10

Praise: Jim, a security guard at a bank, was ordered by his boss to stop bringing his Bible to work. Jim respectfully refused and continued to read his Bible on his lunch break. A few months later, Jim's boss was fired.

I'M ANGRY, GOD - One Bread, One Body, 3/28/2019

Thursday, March 28, 2019

Jeremiah 7:23-28, Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9, Luke 11:14-23
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032819.cfm

I'M ANGRY, GOD

"Oh, that today you would hear His voice..." -Psalm 95:7

In today's first reading, God shares a point of view with many people who are disgruntled with religion. God is dissatisfied with the behavior of His people. He is disturbed by what He sees when He looks at those who were supposed to be faithful to His call. In fact, He is angry with His people, and His anger bursts forth through the prophet Jeremiah: "Faithfulness has disappeared; the word itself is banished from their speech" (Jer 7:28). To this point, numerous people would agree completely with God: "Yes, the Church is flawed, God's people are unfaithful, and I'm tired of it. I'm angry about it, to the point where I can't hold it in. You go, God!" Church historians throughout the centuries have often wryly observed that the sinfulness of leaders within the Church proves that God is the Head of the Church, for otherwise there is no way she could have survived two-thousand years without collapse.

However, in today's psalm response, the Lord changes the focus from the plural to the singular. The Divine God now looks at "your" heart instead of "their" heart. He calls you and me to look at the plank in our own eye first, and remove that through repentance. Only then can we help others remove the speck from their eye (Mt 7:4-5). God implores us: "Oh, that today you would hear [My] voice, harden not your hearts" (Ps 95:7-8). Let us all "be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for a man's anger does not fulfill God's justice" (Jas 1:19-20). Instead, trust in the Lord and His power to renew His people.

Prayer: Father, replace any anger in my heart with a deep thirst for hearing Your Word.

Promise: "If it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of God is upon you." -Lk 11:20

Praise: Bill was downhearted over the results of an election. His brother prayed with him over the phone and witnessed to him about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Bill then began to pray in tongues for the first time right there on the telephone.

SLIDE RULES?

"Not the smallest letter of the law, not the smallest part of a letter, shall be done away with until it all comes true." -Matthew 5:18

During Lent, we imitate Jesus in the desert when He overcame the temptations of the devil. Satan tempts us not only to rebel totally and defiantly against the Lord but also to "cut corners" and mildly modify God's commands. Jesus, however, challenges us: "I assure you: until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter of the law, not the smallest part of a letter, shall be done away with until it all comes true" (Mt 5:18). The Lord calls us to obey Him totally, carefully (see Dt 4:6), and exactly. Because the Lord is the great, all-holy God, His slightest wish is of great significance. This does not mean that we are to become scrupulous, casuistic, or pharisaical. However, true love is concerned with being like Jesus in doing and saying only what God His Father told Him (Jn 5:19; 8:28).

This Lent, let us ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth (Jn 16:13) in areas where we let our culture condition our ideas and morals. Where have we compared ourselves with others rather than to God's standards? Where are we keeping up with the times rather than crucifying our "flesh with its passions and desires"? (Gal 5:24) Where are we gradually being manipulated into tolerating filth at which we would have been appalled a few years ago?

Obey as Jesus obeyed - as strictly as He walked the way of the cross.

Prayer: Father, teach me to obey by Your standards.

Promise: "Whoever breaks the least significant of these commands and teaches others to do so shall be called least in the kingdom of God." -Mt 5:19

Praise: John and Kevin both had vasectomies. Jesus changed their hearts and gently showed them how they were blocking His gift of life. They repented and had their vasectomies successfully reversed.

PROVING THE NECESSITY OF FORGIVENESS - One Bread, One Body, 3/26/2019

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Daniel 3:25, 34-43, Psalm 25:4-9, Matthew 18:21-35

PROVING THE NECESSITY OF FORGIVENESS

"I canceled your entire debt when you pleaded with me. Should you not have dealt mercifully with your fellow servant, as I dealt with you?" -Matthew 18:32-33

Jesus probably could not emphasize forgiveness more. He taught us to pray to be forgiven as we forgive those who have sinned against us (Mt 6:12). Jesus commanded us to forgive seventy times seven times, that is, indefinitely, or be handed "over to the torturers" (Mt 18:34). Even while hanging on the cross, Jesus prayed before His death: "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34).

The last hundred years of international military history have illustrated the profound wisdom of Jesus' emphasis and insistence on forgiveness. World War I was billed as "the war to end all wars." However, World War II soon followed, after which came the Korean conflict and the Vietnamese War. Enemies were not forgiven, and thus came the "cold war" and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and then the terrorism of September 11, 2001. Without forgiving our enemies, we create a world of escalating war, violence, and terrorism.

When the world was gridlocked with unforgiveness, God was the first to forgive. He forgave us for our part through our sins in His crucifixion and death. Let us pass on Jesus' forgiveness of us to those who have sinned against us (Mt 18:32-33).

Prayer: Father, make me a peacemaker (Mt 5:9) and a minister of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18).

Promise: "So let our sacrifice be in Your presence today as we follow You unreservedly; for those who trust in You cannot be put to shame." -Dn 3:40

Praise: Antonio gave up a lucrative pension, retired early, sold his home and possessions, and moved out-of-state so he and his wife could minister full-time to the poor.

THE HUMILITY THAT CHANGED THE WORLD - One Bread, One Body, 3/25/2019

Monday, March 25, 2019, Annunciation of the Lord

THE HUMILITY THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

"Then said I, 'Behold I come.' " -Psalm 40:8

Today, and on the first day of Christmas, we fall to our knees when we pray in the Creed: "By the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man." We are awed by the extreme humility of the Lord in becoming man. Moreover, His Incarnation sets the tone for millennia of humility from the poverty of the manger at Bethlehem to the obscurity of His life in Nazareth as a carpenter, from the extreme humility of His death by crucifixion to the incomprehensible humility of the Lord giving Himself to us in Communion under the appearances of bread and wine.

Because God is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16), He is humble to the extreme. The more experience we have of true love, the more we come to realize that growing deeper in love means going deeper in humility. Mary seems to have realized this, for when the archangel Gabriel announced the Incarnation, she responded in love: "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say" (Lk 1:38). When we see ourselves as the Lord's servants (or more precisely His slaves), we are humble. Furthermore, when we let "it be done" to us rather than "doing it ourselves," we are loving the Lord and humbling ourselves.

The humility of the Lord as expressed in His Incarnation is an unfathomable mystery. What He means by humility may be very different than our ideas of humility. On this feast of the Annunciation of the Incarnation, let us ask the incarnate Jesus to teach us to be meek and "humble of heart" (Mt 11:29).

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to reveal to me the relationship between love and humility.

Promise: "By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." -Heb 10:10

Praise: "Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus."

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday of Lent

March 24th Third Sunday of Lent

Jesus, help us to truly have a change of heart this Lenten season.

Have it change us into what You want us to become.

Jesus, sometimes we become too worldly, in our thoughts and actions, and this draws us away
from You.

We don't mean to, but we let the world stop us from giving You all the honor and glory that
You so truly deserve.

Help us to focus on You, and let all our thoughts start with, what can I do to please God?
Will this action give Him glory?

Jesus increase our faith.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday ONLY A BURNING BUSH BEARS FRUIT
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/24/2019

"Leave it another year, while I hoe around it and manure it; then perhaps it will bear fruit. If not,
it shall be cut down." -Luke 13:8-9

The Lord calls us to repent not only of sins of commission but also of omission. In today's Gospel
reading, He calls us to repent of not bearing fruit, that is, of not sharing our faith and leading
others to new life in Christ. If we do not bear fruit spiritually, we will be cut down (Lk 13:9) and
thrown into the fire (Jn 15:6). We will come to a tragic end (Lk 13:3, 5).

To be a fruitful fig tree (see Lk 13:6), we must first be a burning bush (see Ex 3:2). The fire of
God's presence and His Word must purify us so we can be fruitful (see Lk 24:32).

Today throughout the world, hundreds of thousands of catechumens in the Catholic Church are receiving
the ancient prayer called the "First Scrutiny." The Church is asking the Lord to search
(see Ps 139:23), purify, heal, enlighten, and strengthen the hearts of these catechumens. The basis
for the First Scrutiny is chapter four of John's Gospel. In this chapter, Jesus told the Samaritan
woman everything she had ever done (Jn 4:29). She was purified and became fruitful in leading the
people of her village to new life in Christ.

Ask the Lord to scrutinize and purify your heart so as to bear much fruit.

Prayer: Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours (Mt 11:29). Bear fruit in my life.

Promise: "For all these reasons, let anyone who thinks he is standing upright watch out lest he fall!"
-1 Cor 10:12

Praise: Praise Jesus, obedient Son of the Father, and risen Lord!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
https://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-11.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

DON'T BE INDIFFERENT

... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves
to succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a
dignified life.

THE CHURCH AND THE POOR

For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple
ways and through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from
misery are not different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand
to help and support them, in such a way that no one is left behind, so that in our world fraternal
solidarity may boast its own identity card and citizenship, beyond any flashy slogans void of
substance.

"HOPES OF MILLIONS"

The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions
of persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of
that great number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the
opposite and yet recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to
be cooling.

ONLY A BURNING BUSH BEARS FRUIT

"Leave it another year, while I hoe around it and manure it; then perhaps it will bear fruit. If not, it shall be cut down." -Luke 13:8-9

The Lord calls us to repent not only of sins of commission but also of omission. In today's Gospel reading, He calls us to repent of not bearing fruit, that is, of not sharing our faith and leading others to new life in Christ. If we do not bear fruit spiritually, we will be cut down (Lk 13:9) and thrown into the fire (Jn 15:6). We will come to a tragic end (Lk 13:3, 5).

To be a fruitful fig tree (see Lk 13:6), we must first be a burning bush (see Ex 3:2). The fire of God's presence and His Word must purify us so we can be fruitful (see Lk 24:32).

Today throughout the world, hundreds of thousands of catechumens in the Catholic Church are receiving the ancient prayer called the "First Scrutiny." The Church is asking the Lord to search (see Ps 139:23), purify, heal, enlighten, and strengthen the hearts of these catechumens. The basis for the First Scrutiny is chapter four of John's Gospel. In this chapter, Jesus told the Samaritan woman everything she had ever done (Jn 4:29). She was purified and became fruitful in leading the people of her village to new life in Christ.

THE TRUE TEST - One Bread, One Body, 3/23/2019

Saturday, March 23, 2019, St. Toribio de Mogrovejo

Micah 7:14-15, 18-20, Psalm 103:1-4, 9-12, Luke 15:1-3, 11-32
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032319.cfm

THE TRUE TEST

"The son grew angry at this." -Luke 15:28

Unlike his father, the older son wasn't out looking for his brother to return. The older son was, in a sense, biding his time, serving his father but without much of a relationship with him despite the father's love for him. The younger son asked for his inheritance, showing so much disdain for his father that he essentially told him to his face that he was more valuable to him dead than alive. The older son showed that he was not that much different than his brother; he considered working for his father as slavery and was more concerned with what he could get from his father than with his relationship with him (Lk 15:29).

God is "the Tester of our hearts" (1 Thes 2:4). Loving those who hurt us (Lk 6:27), and forgiving them from our heart (Mt 18:35) is the true test of a child of the heavenly Father (Mt 5:45). Are we willing to forgive like the father in today's Gospel reading? Or are we content for these people to simply get out of our lives and stay out?

Jesus calls us to be made perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect (Mt 5:48). Thus, He calls us to love and forgive our enemies - those who hurt us or who have hurt our loved ones.

The older brother looked pretty good - until it was time to forgive someone who had hurt him. Then all his anger bubbled to the surface. Are we willing to receive the grace to forgive and love those who hurt us?

Prayer: Father, I need to forgive but I cannot without Your grace. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me decide to forgive, before the sun sets tonight, all those who have hurt me (Eph 4:26-27).

Promise: "You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins." -Mi 7:19

Praise: St. Toribio baptized and confirmed nearly a million Peruvians in his twenty-five years of ministry there.

Jesus is "the Stone Which the builders rejected." Jesus was rejected at birth (Lk 2:7). He was rejected by his hometown (see Lk 4:29). He was rejected by the Pharisees, scribes, and priests. He was abandoned by His apostles and disciples, denied three times by Peter, and betrayed by Judas for thirty pieces of silver. At His crucifixion, He was rejected by Pontius Pilate, Herod, the soldiers executing Him, the criminals crucified with Him, and us by our sins against Him. Even after His death Jesus continues to be rejected, as we by our sins crucify Him and hold Him up to contempt (Heb 6:6). Jesus is the most rejected Person Who has ever walked the face of the earth. Jesus is the most divorced, abused Victim of injustice.

What does Jesus do after and in the midst of all this abuse? Jesus loves us unconditionally. He opens His heart to us. He turns the other cheek (Mt 5:39). Jesus hates sin because He loves sinners so much. Jesus, the most rejected One, never rejects us (Jn 6:37). Jesus forgives us and loves us infinitely forever. Let us love as He loves and enter into the mystery of God, Who is Love (see 1 Jn 4:8, 16).

Prayer: Father, teach me the forgiveness, mercy, justice, and vulnerability in Your love.

Promise: "He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions." -Ps 105:21

Praise: Joyce's entire community fasts on bread and water during the Fridays of Lent.

TRUST FUND

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord." -Jeremiah 17:7

If we trust in the Lord, we are blessed. If we trust in ourselves, others, or anything else, we are cursed (Jer 17:5). The one who is cursed "is like a barren bush in the desert that enjoys no change of season, but stands in a lava waste, a salt and empty earth" (Jer 17:6). For example, the rich man in today's Gospel reading trusted in himself, his wealth, and his pleasurable lifestyle. Thus, he cursed himself forever and was "tortured in these flames" (Lk 16:24).

Trusting in the Lord is the meaning of life. Therefore, "trust in the Lord and do good" (Ps 37:3). "Commit to the Lord your way; trust in Him, and He will act" (Ps 37:5). "Trust in Him at all times, O my people! Pour out your hearts before Him" (Ps 62:9). "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not" (Prv 3:5).

Ironically, the meaning of life is expressed on the currency of the U.S.A. by the motto, "In God we trust." Beginning this Lent, ask the Holy Spirit to remind you that when you use money, pray for an ever greater trust in the Lord. When you pay in cash, pray to trust in the Lord.

Prayer: Father, lead me to a new level of trust in You.

Promise: "More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it? I, the Lord, alone probe the mind and test the heart." -Jer 17:9-10

Praise: Jim left his Bible at work. He was so upset that he made the long drive back to work that night so he could have his Bible.

THE GREATEST GREATNESS - One Bread, One Body, 3/20/2019

For Lent read our publication entitled, "The Secret of Confession"

THE GREATEST GREATNESS

"Anyone among you who aspires to greatness must serve the rest." -Matthew 20:26

If you are a Christian, you are literally an adopted child of God. You have a new nature in Christ, a share in the divine nature (2 Pt 1:4). You are royal, priestly, holy, chosen, and set apart (see 1 Pt 2:9). Considering your identity in Christ, you are obviously called to greatness.

However, we must understand greatness the way Jesus does. Our greatness is not the greatness of the world but the greatness of the cross (see Mt 20:25-26).

Once we become convinced of our call to true greatness, we look at life much differently. For example, in this booklet we repeatedly encourage you to pray the Mass daily or as frequently as possible. Daily Mass is almost a logical conclusion for those who know their call to greatness. In this booklet, we try to move people from Bible illiteracy or ignorance to a life in God's Word (see Jn 8:31). Those who know their call to greatness see the need to immerse themselves in God's Word.

So many Christians live lukewarm, mediocre lives. How can Christians settle for less than giving the Lord their best? They must not realize their call to greatness. This Lent, ask the Holy Spirit to confirm your identity and your call to greatness.

Prayer: Father, may I let You fulfill Your great plan in my life.

Promise: "Remember that I stood before You to speak in their behalf, to turn away Your wrath from them." -Jer 18:20

Praise: Jesus used a sales pitch for cemetery plots to get Susan to think about where she would be after death, and to draw her back to Himself.

"DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS" - One Bread, One Body, 3/19/2019

For Lent read our publication entitled, "The Secret of Confession"

http://www.presentationministries.com/publications/SecretConfession.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 19, 2019, St. Joseph

2 Samuel 7:4-5, 12-14, 16, Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22, Psalm 89:2-5, 27, 29, Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24, or Luke 2:41-51
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/031919.cfm

"DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS"

"Joseph her husband, an upright man unwilling to expose her to the law, decided to divorce her quietly." -Matthew 1:19

When St. Joseph did not divorce Mary, he made one of the greatest acts of faith in history. Humanly speaking, he had every reason to divorce her. The only thing dissuading Joseph from the divorce was a dream he had in which an angel told him to take Mary as his wife (Mt 1:20). Enlightened by this dream, Joseph did not divorce Mary (Mt 1:24). Thus he did not divorce Jesus, the Baby in Mary's womb.

Like Joseph, we all have occasions to get a divorce. Some divorce their spouses legally. Others divorce them by ignoring them. Some parents divorce their children by surrendering them to the TV or by not correcting them after they seem incorrigible. Many Christians have divorced their church families. They may still go to church on Sunday, but don't get involved. Many mothers even divorce themselves from the babies in their wombs. Instead of bonding with these children, they abort them.

Jesus is the most divorced Person of all. When we divorce others, we divorce Him (see Lk 10:16; Mt 25:45). He hates divorce (Mal 2:16) but still loves those who are divorced and even those who do the divorcing. He will never divorce us. Remain always in Him (1 Jn 2:28).

Prayer: Father, like Joseph may I spend my life knowing, loving, and serving Jesus.

Promise: "Hoping against hope, Abraham believed and so became the father of many nations." -Rm 4:18

Praise: By quickly obeying God, St. Joseph successfully protected Jesus from a government-led assassination attempt.

"MERCY TRIUMPHS OVER JUDGMENT" (JAS 2:13)

"Pardon our sins for Your name's sake." -Psalm 79:9

The prophet Ezekiel explains that God delivered His sinful people to uphold the greatness of His own name throughout the nations (Ez 36:22). It was important to the Lord that He would not be regarded by the pagans as a fickle God Who promised to be God of His people, but then abandoned them when they strayed from Him.

Justice is on God's side (see Dn 9:7); yet even more than being just, God is compassionate and merciful (Dn 9:9; Ps 103:8; Ex 34:6). Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI even made the amazing observation that "God's passionate love for His people - for humanity...is so great that it turns God against Himself, His love against His justice" (God is Love, 10).

When we have given ourselves to God and we covenant with Him in Baptism, we are protected because we are now associated with the Holy Name of God. We are stamped with His image and His Name. We are His. As a parent stands up for their child, so God fights for His children, even if He "turns...His love against His justice" because of us.

Therefore, beloved children, live in holiness and obedience, so that God need no longer turn against Himself because of us.

Prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, how can I ever thank You enough for holding back your just punishments toward me, and instead lavishing me with Your merciful love. I will spend the rest of my life serving You with gladness (Ps 100:2).

Promise: "Pardon, and you shall be pardoned." Lk 6:37

Praise: St. Cyril returned after exile to formally accept the Nicene Creed.

PM eNewsletter 2nd Sunday of Lent

March 17th 2nd Sunday of Lent

Lord God, we have asked You for more faith, hope and love.

Please Jesus, open our hearts, souls and minds to really let go and let You totally take over in
our lives.

Fill us with the grace needed to truly do this, and really see others through Your eyes.

Jesus, the world has become what it always becomes, selfish.

Jesus, let us be in the world, but let us work and act from Your world of love and forgiveness.

Lord, it is so easy to slip into the cares and worries of today.

So Christ, lift us up, and let us praise and adore You our living God.

Jesus, let us celebrate this lent, as a time of rooting out all the things that causes us to be
fearful of the future.

Let us all realize, that nothing is happening that You aren't totally aware of, and that You
have already worked out the perfect plan for all of us.

Let us prepare for our home coming this Lent.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LOVE AND DAILY DYINGS
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/17/2019

"Unfortunately, many go about in a way which shows them to be enemies of the cross of Christ."
-Philippians 3:18

Jesus commanded us to take up our crosses each day (Lk 9:23). A Roman cross existed only for the
purpose of causing a person's death. A daily cross is daily dying to self. This is the ultimate life
of love, which is the greatest expression of freedom. However, a life of daily crosses and daily
dyings requires so much love that we may not choose this life of selfless love and thereby be
paralyzed by selfishness and fear. Only by obeying the Lord can we be set free to choose the way of
daily crosses, the way of love.

Jesus takes us up Transfiguration mountain where the veil is removed from the hidden Christ
(see Col 3:3) of faith so that we can see the transfigured Christ of glory. This may happen through
the sacraments, the Bible, the poor, a healing, a miracle, a marriage, a birth, a blessing, or other
spiritual experiences. When we see Christ transfigured, we are led to receive a new Pentecost. Then
the Spirit proclaims that Jesus is Lord (1 Cor 12:3). Knowing not only in our heads but also in our
hearts that Jesus is Lord, we listen to Jesus (Lk 9:35) - even about the love-filled life of daily
crosses and daily dyings. In submission to the transfigured Lord Jesus, we are free to love as He
loved - even to death on the cross.

Prayer: Father, by obedience to the truth purify me for genuine love (1 Pt 1:22).

Promise: "You whom I so love and long for, you who are my joy and my crown, continue, my dear ones,
to stand firm in the Lord." -Phil 4:1

Praise: Glory and praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
https://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-11.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"

There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and
this ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all
religious persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and
consists in "doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."
