"TRYING EVERY POSSIBLE MEANS"

"Blindness has come upon part of Israel until the full number of Gentiles enter in, and then all Israel will be saved." -Romans 11:25-26

St. John Chrysostom taught: "God attached so much importance to [man's] salvation that He did not spare His own Son for the sake of man. Nor does He ever cease to work, trying every possible means, until He has raised man up to Himself and made him sit at His right hand" (Catechism, 358). The Lord uses every means to call us to conversion. For example, by the Jews' "transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles" (Rm 11:11). Moreover, the conversion of the Gentiles is "to stir Israel to envy" (Rm 11:11) "and save some of them" (Rm 11:14). Because the Lord wants all saved (1 Tm 2:4), the Lord wants to bring us to conversion through joys, sorrows, birth, death, health, sickness, marriage, divorce, victories, failures, peace, rejection, hopes, loneliness, etc.

List three significant events of this week. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to the truth (Jn 16:13) that the Lord is using these events to lead you to a deeper conversion. Don't complain about what is happening in your life, but say with Mary: "I am the slave of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to Your word" (Lk 1:38, our transl). Rejoice even "to suffer the distress of many trials" (1 Pt 1:6), "because you are achieving faith's goal, your salvation" (1 Pt 1:9). "All that matters is that one is created anew" (Gal 6:15).

Prayer: Father, make me "all things to all men in order to save" (1 Cor 9:22) "as many as possible" (1 Cor 9:19).

Promise: "For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled and he who humbles himself shall be exalted." -Lk 14:11

Praise: Anne began to realize how her heaviest burden in life was having a transformative effect upon her.

PAINFUL LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 10/30/2015

Friday, October 30, 2015

Romans 9:1-5, Psalm 147:12-15, 19-20, Luke 14:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/103015.cfm

PAINFUL LOVE

"I speak the truth in Christ." -Romans 9:1

St. Paul described his sufferings as follows: "...labors and imprisonments, with far worse beatings and frequent brushes with death. Five times at the hands of the Jews I received forty lashes less one; three times I was beaten with rods; I was stoned once, shipwrecked three times; I passed a day and a night on the sea. I traveled continually, endangered by floods, robbers, my own people" (2 Cor 11:23-26). Paul suffered greatly, and much of this was due to his own people's hatred and persecution of him. Nevertheless, Paul had a deep love for the Jewish people. He even said: "Indeed, I could even wish to be separated from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen, the Israelites" (Rm 9:3-4).

When your enemies try to put you through hell on earth, do you love them? Do you love them so much that you would do anything for them, even be damned for them, if that were possible? Jesus, Paul, and Christians have had this amazing grace to love enemies. The Lord gives this grace to us, for He cannot command us to love our enemies without giving us the power to do this (Mt 5:44).

"This will prove that" we are sons and daughters of our "heavenly Father, for His sun rises on the bad and the good, He rains on the just and the unjust" (Mt 5:45). Only the Lord and His family treat their enemies better than they treat their friends. Only the Lord and His family love everyone unconditionally. Be like God. Receive a miracle of love. Love deeply those who have hurt you terribly and continue to do so.

Prayer: Father, I want to be like You. May I shine on my enemies and bless them abundantly.

Promise: "He took the man, healed him, and sent him on his way." -Lk 14:4

Praise: When being mistreated by another family in her parish, Brooke made a decision to pray even more for them.

UNBREAKABLE BONDS OF LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 10/29/2015

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Romans 8:31-39, Psalm 109:21-22, 26-27, 30-31, Luke 13:31-35

UNBREAKABLE BONDS OF LOVE

"For I am certain that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor powers, neither height nor depth nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God that comes to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord." -Romans 8:38-39

Some of you are in prison. You've been separated from your loved ones. Some of you are divorced or separated from spouses. You too have been separated from your loved one. Some of you have been separated from a loved one because of their death. It's an awful, unceasing pain to be separated from love. Here is some wonderful news for you! There is Someone Who loves you; nothing can separate you from His love.

Jesus loves you. Jesus loves you. Jesus loves you. Absolutely nothing can stop Jesus from loving you. He loves you when you don't love Him. He loved you first, before you loved Him or if you've never loved Him (1 Jn 4:19). Jesus loves you in your sinfulness. He loved you before you turned to Him, even when you sinned against Him (see Rm 5:8). With age-old love He has loved you (Jer 31:3). Stop everything. Be still and know that Jesus is God (Ps 46:11). Know in the core of your being that Jesus loves you and nothing can separate you from His love.

Prayer: Jesus, may all who read this "grasp fully...the breadth and length and height and depth of [Your] love, and experience this love" at this very moment (Eph 3:18-19).

Promise: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" -Rm 8:31

Praise: When tempted to judge another, Rick asks for the heart of Jesus for that person and is filled with love.

COMPARED TO WHAT? - One Bread, One Body, 10/27/2015

COMPARED TO WHAT?

"I consider the sufferings of the present to be as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us." -Romans 8:18

We must never compare ourselves with others. Nor should we compare the present with the past and idealize the "good old days." Nevertheless, we should compare the present sufferings with the future glory. When we do this, our sufferings seem like nothing. We are filled with hope and become able to endure anything, even the burdens and boredom of everyday life.

When we fix our eyes on the future glory, we do not escape from present realities. In fact, this gives us the strength to enter into the present sufferings and trials with no reservations. This kind of religion is not the "opium of the people," as Marx alleged. Rather, a religion of hope is the only thing that is not the opium of the people. Communism, unbridled capitalism, and secularism are the real opium of the people, and the effects of these "drugs" are starting to wear off. We need hope to live, not mind-games, ideologies, or petty pleasures. We need Christ in us, our Hope of glory (Col 1:27).

Prayer: Father, may I smile and rejoice even in adversity.

Promise: "In hope we were saved." -Rm 8:24

Praise: Losing his job led James to put his trust back in God and get his life back on track.

WITH THE SUFFERING JESUS - One Bread, One Body, 10/26/2015

WITH THE SUFFERING JESUS

"If we are children, we are heirs as well: heirs of God, heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with Him so as to be glorified with Him." -Romans 8:17

Jesus is with us (Mt 28:20), and we are with Him. We are heirs with Him and glorified with Him "if only we suffer with Him." Everyone wants to be a glorified heir, but are we willing to be a crucified sufferer with Him? Do we miraculously even find joy in sharing in His sufferings? (Col 1:24; 1 Pt 4:13) Do we consider it a privilege not only to believe in Him but also suffer with and for Him? (Phil 1:29) Do we "consider the sufferings of the present to be as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us?" (Rm 8:18)

Jesus wants to remove many, but not all, sufferings from our lives. Jesus continues to free men and women who have been in the bondage of Satan, shackled (Lk 13:16), drained of strength, and badly stooped for eighteen years (Lk 13:11) or more. Jesus' heart is moved with pity for us (Mt 9:36). By His wounds, Jesus heals us (1 Pt 2:24). However, Jesus does not remove all sufferings. He gives us the opportunity to "fill up what is lacking" in His sufferings "for the sake of His body, the church" (Col 1:24).

Therefore, be healed of many sufferings and also choose to suffer in the pattern of Jesus' death (Phil 3:10). Choose to suffer persecution and rejection for the Gospel. Choose fastings, penances, and other sacrifices. Rejoice! You are not suffering alone. You suffer with Him.

Prayer: Jesus, teach me how to share in Your sufferings by being formed into the pattern of Your death (Phil 3:10).

Promise: "God gives a home to the forsaken; He leads forth prisoners to prosperity." -Ps 68:7

Praise: Being financially strained, the Wilsons have learned to rely on Jesus for their daily bread.

(On Nov. 20-21, we offer a retreat on "Prophecy and Deliverance" and how God's Word can break chains. Call (937) 587-5464 or (513) 373-2397 to register.)

PM eNewsletter 30th Sunday in ordinary time

October 25th 30th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, it is good for us to pray for all those who have
died and gone before us.

Give us the inspiration to pray especially for those in
purgatory who have no one to pray for them.

Let us be aware that those in purgatory depend on
us to get them into the glory of heaven through our
prayers, masses, and the charitable acts that we do
for there release.

Jesus, continue to grace us to understand that our
brothers and sisters who have gone before us have
changed into eternal beings that are now in the
communion of saints forever and ever.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday BLIND FAITH
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/25/2015

"Be on your way. Your faith has healed you." -Mark 10:52

The blind beggar Bartimaeus had faith, and Jesus immediately healed him
of blindness (Mk 10:52). Bartimaeus expressed his faith in Jesus vocally,
publicly, and repeatedly, even after he was scolded and told to keep
quiet (Mk 10:47-48).

Bartimaeus also expressed his faith when "he threw aside his cloak,
jumped up and came to Jesus" (Mk 10:50). When a blind man throws away his
cloak, he had better be healed, or he may never find his cloak. Moreover,
a cloak was worth much more in Biblical times, for it was used as
collateral and shelter (Dt 24:12-13).

Bartimaeus expressed his faith by fearlessly (Mk 10:49) coming to Jesus
(Mk 10:50), accepting Jesus as his Rabboni, that is, Teacher (Mk 10:51),
and following Jesus, that is, becoming His disciple (Mk 10:52).

To please God, we must live in faith (Heb 11:6). To live for Jesus and to
love Him with all our hearts, we need faith. To move mountains (Mt 17:20)
and to conquer the world, we must have faith (1 Jn 5:5). To accept the
grace of salvation, we must have faith (Eph 2:8). Have faith as Bartimaeus
had faith.

Prayer: Lord, I have faith. Help my lack of faith (Mk 9:24, our transl).

Promise: "They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them."
-Jer 31:9

Praise: Praise Jesus of Nazareth (Mk 10:47), Son of David (Mk 10:47, 48),
Rabboni (Mk 10:51), "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), Lord, and
God!

Please pray for one of our twins who is still in my womb. We named him
Andrew. The doctors found severe bleeding and excessive fluid inside his
skull, which is putting pressure and possibly injury/damage to his brain.
Doctors said he might also be anemic now because of the bleeding. They
said that there may be many negative health effects like developmental
delays, problems with breathing & feeding, motor skills issues, seizures,
etc. We are lifting everything up to God and trust in His plan. We humbly
request that you join us in prayer for our baby Andrew..that he will be
healed by Our Merciful God and be touched by Our Lord Jesus Christ..with
the intercession of Mama Mary..and that he as well as his twin sister
Aleah will both be born completely healthy, happy and strong. Thank you
so very much! May God bless us all.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI AND CREATION

SIMPLICITY AND HARMONY

He was a mystic and a pilgrim who lived in simplicity and in wonderful harmony
with God, with others, with nature and with himself. He shows us just how
inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor,
commitment to society, and interior peace. (10)

COMMUNING WITH ALL CREATION

... Whenever he would gaze at the sun, the moon or the smallest of animals, he
burst into song, drawing all other creatures into his praise. He communed with
all creation, even preaching to the flowers, inviting them to "praise the Lord,
just as if they were endowed with reason." (11)

"BONDS OF AFFECTION"

His response to the world around him was so much more than intellectual
appreciation or economic calculus, for to him each and every creature was a
sister united to him by bonds of affection. That is why he felt called to care
for all that exists. (11)

Bartimaeus expressed his faith by fearlessly (Mk 10:49) coming to Jesus (Mk 10:50), accepting Jesus as his Rabboni, that is, Teacher (Mk 10:51), and following Jesus, that is, becoming His disciple (Mk 10:52).

To please God, we must live in faith (Heb 11:6). To live for Jesus and to love Him with all our hearts, we need faith. To move mountains (Mt 17:20) and to conquer the world, we must have faith (1 Jn 5:5). To accept the grace of salvation, we must have faith (Eph 2:8). Have faith as Bartimaeus had faith.

Prayer: Lord, I have faith. Help my lack of faith (Mk 9:24, our transl).

Promise: "They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them." -Jer 31:9

Praise: Praise Jesus of Nazareth (Mk 10:47), Son of David (Mk 10:47, 48), Rabboni (Mk 10:51), "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), Lord, and God!

FRUIT INSPECTION - One Bread, One Body, 10/24/2015

Saturday, October 24, 2015, St. Anthony Mary Claret

Romans 8:1-11, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 13:1-9

FRUIT INSPECTION

"Look here! For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree and found none. Cut it down." -Luke 13:7

Jesus clearly warns that we will suffer tragic ends unless we bear the fruit of holiness (see Gal 5:22) and evangelization (see Lk 13:3, 5, 7). Nevertheless, we cannot bear fruit by our own power. All we need is to live in Jesus as branches that are part of a vine and He will live in us (Jn 15:5). We can do nothing apart from Jesus (Jn 15:5), but in Jesus we will bear abundant (Jn 15:5), multiplying, and lasting (Jn 15:16) fruit "unto life eternal" (Jn 6:27).

Consequently, let us live our Baptisms by which Jesus entered into us and we into Him. Let us no longer live for ourselves but for Him Who for our "sakes died and was raised up" (2 Cor 5:15). Jesus is "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6). For all who are in Him, " 'life' means Christ" (Phil 1:21). Live in and for Jesus alone, and bear great fruit.

Prayer: Father, I decide to live and die in Jesus.

Promise: "The law of the spirit, the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has freed you from the law of sin and death." -Rm 8:2

Praise: St. Anthony survived at least fifteen attempts made on his life, but he remained faithful to He Who is life.

(To draw His strength in your life, read the Bible daily. JESUS OR A HELL OF A LIFE

"Who can free me?" -Romans 7:24

All human beings are conceived and born as prisoners of war. We are created prisoners "of the law of sin" in our members (Rm 7:23). "This means that even though" we "want to do what is right, a law that leads to wrongdoing is always ready at hand" (Rm 7:21). It is wretched to have a war going on inside us, to be prisoners in that war, to not have the power to do the good we desire to do (Rm 7:18), and to repeatedly hurt the very people we want to love. When we get to know ourselves and human nature, we cry out: "What a wretched man I am! Who can free me from this body under the power of death?" (Rm 7:24) Who can save us? How will we ever know anything but defeat, slavery, self-hatred, doom, and despair? However, there is one hope. Our only hope is Jesus, Who has taken our captivity captive (see Eph 4:8).

Let us thank Jesus constantly for saving us from captivity and slavery. If not for Jesus, we would be used and abused by the evil one. Without Jesus' freeing love, we would feel "dirty," hate ourselves, and destroy ourselves. Without Jesus, our past would be horrible, our present worse, and our future an abominable hell forever. Without Jesus, we can do nothing (Jn 15:5). With Jesus, we have hope, freedom, love, and happiness forever. "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rm 8:1). Give your thanks and your life to Jesus.

Prayer: Father, I give every moment of my life in thanksgiving for Jesus.

Promise: "I am Yours; save me, for I have sought Your precepts." -Ps 119:94

Praise: St. John is said to have practiced penance by riding through the town wearing a paper hat upon which were written his main sins.

CHOOSE YOUR PAY

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23

A man interviewed for two jobs, was offered both, and now had to make his choice. Both companies offered warm working conditions (Lk 12:49; Mt 5:22).

The first company is called Sin, Inc. (Rm 6:12-13, 20). Job responsibilities for the first few years feature variable hours, with lots of "working" from home. Pay for the early part of his career is in the form of a great deal of pleasure. Pay in future years is back-ended lump-sum payments of guilt, self-hatred, and shame. At first the boss is lenient, but later will be a stern taskmaster. The retirement package features grinding of teeth (without dental coverage) and eternal damnation (see Mt 22:13; Rm 6:23).

The second company is named Righteousness, Inc. (Rm 6:13, 19). Job responsibilities for the entire career feature much labor in the field (Mt 9:37; 20:1ff). Travel is required, sometimes without lodging (Lk 9:58), and often without a travel allowance (Mt 10:9-10). Future years will feature large increases in responsibility (Mt 25:21) and the expectations of ever-increasing productivity (Lk 12:48). So much discipline is involved that the employees are actually called "disciples" (Acts 11:26). Nonetheless, employee morale is very high, even overflowing with love and joy. The Boss seems like a "hard Man" (Mt 25:24), but is tender and forgiving toward employees who regret their mistakes (Ps 103:12). The company's retirement package features endless joy and bliss in heaven (see Mt 25:34).

Which job offer do you think the man will accept? Which one would you choose?

Prayer: Father, I offer myself as a servant of righteousness, not of sin (Rm 6:13). Use me as a laborer for Your harvest (Mt 9:38).

Promise: "I have come to light a fire on the earth. How I wish the blaze were ignited!" -Lk 12:49

Praise: Jesus healed Larry of allergies.

MAKING FRIENDS

"Thanks be to God, though once you were slaves of sin, you sincerely obeyed that rule of teaching which was imparted to you; freed from your sin, you became slaves of justice." -Romans 6:17-18

The Lord reveals that every human being is by nature a slave. We may think we're doing our own thing, but we're really doing someone else's. We don't have a choice about being slaves, but we can choose whose slaves we will be. We can choose "the slavery of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to justice" (Rm 6:16). If we refuse to choose, the devil will draft us into serving him, and, if we have not chosen Jesus, we can't stop Satan.

If we choose to be Jesus' slave (see Col 3:24), we will be exalted (see Mt 23:12). We will possess the most profound dignity a human being can have. At some point, Jesus will no longer call us slaves but friends, since He will have made known to us all that He heard from His Father (Jn 15:15).

The way to friendship with Jesus is through slavery to Him, for Jesus "emptied Himself and took the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men" (Phil 2:7). Therefore, realize that doing your own thing is a deception. Refuse to be Satan's slave. Joyfully choose to be Jesus' slave and, eventually, His friend.

Prayer: Father, may I not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of my mind (Rm 12:2).

Promise: "The slave who knew his Master's wishes but did not prepare to fulfill them will get a severe beating, whereas the one who did not know them and who nonetheless deserved to be flogged will get off with fewer stripes. When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted." -Lk 12:47-48

Praise: Joe was enslaved to drugs, but Jesus set him free.

THE SHOCK OF OBEYING GOD

"Ears open to obedience..." -Psalm 40:7

Sin is rebellion against an all-holy God. Because God is so great, sin is very evil - so evil that it penetrated and warped human nature. "Through one man sin entered the world and with sin death" (Rm 5:12). The effects of sin were so catastrophic that God became a human being, died on the cross, and gave us the opportunity to be born again into a new nature (see Jn 3:3).

As powerful as sin is, Jesus' obedience is much more powerful. "Just as through one man's disobedience all became sinners, so through one Man's obedience all shall become just. The law came in order to increase offenses; but despite the increase of sin, grace has far surpassed it" (Rm 5:19-20). Jesus' obedience even to death on the cross (Phil 2:8) is the greatest act of love ever done on this earth. Therefore, to obey the Father as Jesus did is an awesome privilege in which we enter into the heart of God's power and love. We should be shocked that the Lord has chosen us to obey Him and to be His slaves (see Col 3:24). Why would God ever command us to do anything? Why should God include us? Why would He choose to work through us?

Moreover, the Lord in His love for us gives us constant opportunities to obey Him. If we had only one opportunity to obey the Lord, we would plan and center our lives around this precious moment of obedience. Yet we can live constantly in obedience. May we realize the privilege of obeying God. May we be constantly amazed that God would ever command us to do anything.

Be shocked that we can sin and have sinned. Be more shocked that we can obey.

Prayer: Father, teach me to obey You no matter what it takes.

Promise: "I tell you, he will put on an apron, seat them at table, and proceed to wait on them. Should he happen to come at midnight or before sunrise and find them prepared, it will go well with them." -Lk 12:37-38

Praise: St. Paul's example as a holy teenager led to many religious vocations.

LOOK "ON THE FAITH OF YOUR CHURCH"

"The words, 'It was credited to him,' were not written with him alone in view; they were intended for us too. For our faith will be credited to us also if we believe in Him Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." -Romans 4:23-24

God promised Abraham that He would remove the supposed curse of childlessness and make him the father of many nations. Although Abraham was nearing one hundred years old without these promises fulfilled (Rm 4:19), "he never questioned or doubted God's promise; rather, he was strengthened in faith and gave glory to God, fully persuaded that God could do whatever He had promised" (Rm 4:20-21).

Are you fully convinced of God's promise to provide for your financial future through your faith expressed in tithing and almsgiving? (see Lk 12:16ff) Are you fully convinced that the Lord will plan your family without you taking matters into your hands through contraception? Are you fully convinced that all your decisions in life should be made so as to inherit God's promise of eternal life with Him in heaven?

We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). Jesus repeatedly said: "Your faith has been your salvation" (e.g. Lk 17:19). It is impossible to please God without faith (Heb 11:6), and the purpose of life is to please God. Before receiving Holy Communion at Mass, the Church prays for the Lord to look at our faith. We are the people of faith.

In Christ, you are greater than Abraham (see Mt 11:11). Have a faith greater than Abraham's. "Walk by faith" (2 Cor 5:7).

Prayer: Father, may our culture not limit my faith, but my faith transform our culture.

Promise: "Avoid greed in all its forms. A man may be wealthy, but his possessions do not guarantee him life." -Lk 12:15

Praise: St. Isaac Jogues returned repeatedly to those who tortured him to once again spread the love of God to them.

PM eNewsletter 29th Sunday in ordinary time

October 18th 29th Sunday in ordinary time.

Oh! Christ, always and everywhere, remind us through the
Holy Spirit to come and adore Your living presense in the
tabernacle.

Let us sit or kneel, and just adore, and thank You for Your
love for all of us.

Keep us from getting so busy in our daily life that we
forget that You, and You alone, are the way, the truth, and
the life.

Ask Your loving mother to come and adore with us, so
that we will stay focused on Your true presense.

Inspire us through this adoration to realize that all things
work to good for those who love You.

Give us the faith to always trust You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday PAINS-TAKING PRAYER?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/18/2015

"You do not know what you are asking." -Mark 10:38

The Lord commands us to "confidently approach the throne of grace to
receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need" (Heb 4:16).
When we do this, however, we should try to understand the implications
of what we are asking (Mk 10:38). If we ask for many to be justified
and saved, we are also asking that we share in Christ's redemptive
sufferings (Is 53:11; Col 1:24). If we pray for the will of the Lord
to be accomplished through us, we are also asking for the grace to
give our lives as offerings for sin (Is 53:10). If we ask to be great
and do great things for God's kingdom, we are also praying to be the
servants, even the slaves, of all (Mk 10:43-44).

When we pray the "Our Father," the general intercessions at Mass, or
other prayers, the Lord will question us before answering our prayers.
He asks: "Can you drink the cup I shall drink or be baptized in the
same bath of pain as I?" (Mk 10:38) How will we answer? Prayer and
pain often go together. Look at Jesus, the crucified Intercessor.
Considering the fact that prayer is often done in the shadow of the
cross, it's no wonder that so few pray seriously and powerfully. Do we
love others so much that we will not only pray for them but also
suffer with Jesus for them? Will you drink the cup?

Prayer: Jesus, may I spend an hour in prayer daily even if I have to
pray as You did in the Garden of Gethsemani prior to Calvary.

Promise: "The Son of Man has not come to be served but to serve - to
give His life in ransom for the many." -Mk 10:45

Praise: Praise Jesus, Who became the Suffering Servant of all! Alleluia!
Glory to our victorious Lord!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI AND CREATION

"A JOYFUL MYSTERY"

Rather than a problem to be solved, the world is a joyful mystery to be
contemplated with gladness and praise. (12)

"OUR COMMON HOME"

... St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister
with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to
embrace us. "Praise be to You, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with colored
flowers and herbs." (Canticle of the Creatures) (1)

A GREAT EXAMPLE

I believe that Saint Francis is the example par excellence of care for the
vulnerable and of an integral ecology lived out joyfully and authentically
... He was particularly concerned for God's creation and for the poor and
the outcast. He loved, and was deeply loved for his joy, his generous
self-giving, his openheartedness. (10)

PAINS-TAKING PRAYER? - One Bread, One Body, 10/18/2015

Sunday, October 18, 2015, 29th Sunday Ordinary Time

Isaiah 53:10-11, Hebrews 4:14-16, Psalm 33:4-5, 18-20, 22, Mark 10:35-45

PAINS-TAKING PRAYER?

"You do not know what you are asking." -Mark 10:38

The Lord commands us to "confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need" (Heb 4:16). When we do this, however, we should try to understand the implications of what we are asking (Mk 10:38). If we ask for many to be justified and saved, we are also asking that we share in Christ's redemptive sufferings (Is 53:11; Col 1:24). If we pray for the will of the Lord to be accomplished through us, we are also asking for the grace to give our lives as offerings for sin (Is 53:10). If we ask to be great and do great things for God's kingdom, we are also praying to be the servants, even the slaves, of all (Mk 10:43-44).

When we pray the "Our Father," the general intercessions at Mass, or other prayers, the Lord will question us before answering our prayers. He asks: "Can you drink the cup I shall drink or be baptized in the same bath of pain as I?" (Mk 10:38) How will we answer? Prayer and pain often go together. Look at Jesus, the crucified Intercessor. Considering the fact that prayer is often done in the shadow of the cross, it's no wonder that so few pray seriously and powerfully. Do we love others so much that we will not only pray for them but also suffer with Jesus for them? Will you drink the cup?

Prayer: Jesus, may I spend an hour in prayer daily even if I have to pray as You did in the Garden of Gethsemani prior to Calvary.

Promise: "The Son of Man has not come to be served but to serve - to give His life in ransom for the many." -Mk 10:45

Praise: Praise Jesus, Who became the Suffering Servant of all! Alleluia! Glory to our victorious Lord!

(Advent is approaching. Help prepare the way of the Lord by ordering our leaflet, "An Isaiah Advent, "and our "Simple Reading Guide to the Prophetic Books". We also offer two Bible Reading plans to aid in reading the entire Bible in one Church year.)

WHERE HAVE ALL THE MARTYRS GONE? - One Bread, One Body, 10/17/2015

Saturday, October 17, 2015, St. Ignatius of Antioch

Romans 4:13, 16-18, Psalm 105:6-9, 42-43, Luke 12:8-12
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101715.cfm

WHERE HAVE ALL THE MARTYRS GONE?

"When they bring you before synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourself." -Luke 12:11

Today the Church celebrates the feast of a martyr, St. Ignatius of Antioch. The word martyr means "witness," but has come to denote a person killed for their faith in Jesus. Martyrs are so devoted to Jesus and the spread of His Good News that instead of giving up their witness to Jesus, they give up their life for Jesus. They depend on faith (Rm 4:16), never despairing in the face of persecution and suffering.

Whether or not we are put to death for our faith in Jesus, we are all called to give our lives for Him. Pope Francis has taught that to be a Christian, we must have the hallmarks of the cross. We must acknowledge Jesus before all mankind and bear our cross so people can see His life manifested in our lives (Lk 12:9; 2 Cor 4:11).

Abraham was not a martyr, but he gave his life for the Lord, bearing hardship for Him. All of us are called to be like Abraham, carrying our cross for God (Lk 9:23). We follow the footsteps of the Lord wherever He leads, denying ourselves so as to take on the interests of God (see Phil 2:21).

You are liable to be persecuted if you choose to live for Jesus (2 Tm 3:12). However, "fear nothing" (Lk 12:7). You have a Savior Who is for you, not against you (Rm 8:31). "Do not worry" (Lk 12:11). "The Holy Spirit will teach you" what you should say (Lk 12:12). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus (Heb 12:2). Be His witnesses, that is, His martyrs.

Prayer: Father, give me the confidence to say and live, "The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid; What can man do to me?" (Heb 13:6)

Promise: "Whoever acknowledges Me before men - the Son of Man will acknowledge him before the angels of God." -Lk 12:8

Praise: St. Ignatius was quoted, "May I be ground by the teeth of the beasts to become the immaculate bread of Christ."

FAITH FORMING THE FUTURE - One Bread, One Body, 10/16/2015

Friday, October 16, 2015, St. Hedwig, St. Margaret Mary Alocoque

Romans 4:1-8, Psalm 32:1-2, 5, 11, Luke 12:1-7
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101615.cfm

FAITH FORMING THE FUTURE

"Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as justice." -Romans 4:3

In the year 2000, the Church celebrated the Year of the Great Jubilee. "The primary objective" of the Great Jubilee was to be "the strengthening of faith" (Towards the Third Millennium, 42). The year 2012-2013 was declared the Year of Faith. If we had let the Lord Jesus prepare us in both the Great Jubilee year and the Year of Faith, we should be seeing an ever-increasing faith in the Lord.

By faith, we will be able to restore justice to our society and live in the great freedom of the Great Jubilee (see Lv 25:8ff). By faith, we will see debts forgiven, especially the debt of sin. By faith, we will set free the hundreds of millions of people enslaved by addictions, compulsions, anxieties, fears, and self-hatred. By faith, our culture of death will be replaced with a civilization of love and life. Our culture will be permeated with the Gospel of Jesus (Catechism, 899).

"Who, then, is conqueror of the world? The one who has faith that Jesus is the Son of God" (1 Jn 5:5, our transl). "The power that has conquered the world is this faith of ours" (1 Jn 5:4). Believe and receive the heritage of faith.

Prayer: Jesus, "I have faith. Help my lack of faith" (Mk 9:24, our transl).

Promise: "Fear nothing." -Lk 12:7

Praise: Although described by fellow nuns as simple and slow, it was to St. Margaret Mary Alocoque that God chose to reveal His Sacred Heart.

THE JOY OF SALVATION - One Bread, One Body, 10/15/2015

Thursday, October 15, 2015, St. Teresa of Jesus

Romans 3:21-30, Psalm 130:1-6, Luke 11:47-54
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101515.cfm

THE JOY OF SALVATION

"Through His blood, God made Him the Means of expiation for all who believe." -Romans 3:25

"All men have sinned" (Rm 3:23), and "the wages of sin is death" (Rm 6:23). Therefore, we all are doomed to be "deprived of the glory of God" (Rm 3:23) and to suffer death forever. However, "all men are now undeservedly justified by the gift of God, through the redemption wrought in Christ Jesus" (Rm 3:24). Jesus, through His bloody death on the cross, has freed us from sin, death, damnation, hell, slavery, self-hatred, perversion, and Satan.

Consequently, let us give our lives to Jesus and accept Him as our Savior, Lord, and God. Let us thank Him always and forever for having had mercy on us and baptizing us into His death and Resurrection (see Rm 6:3ff). Let us tell everyone that Jesus is the only One Who has saved us from sin and its dire consequences. Let us worship Jesus and sing with Mary: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior" (Lk 1:46-47). "God indeed is my Savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the Lord, and He has been my Savior" (Is 12:2).

Prayer: Father, I decide to die to self and live for Jesus alone.

Promise: "I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in His word." -Ps 130:5

Praise: St. Teresa often sat at the feet of the eucharistic Jesus in prayer. God gifted her with the ability to hear His voice. She devoted much energy to instructing others to hear God in prayer.

(Order one of these tape series to assist you reading the Bible daily and then grow in finding joy in God. HELL, NO - One Bread, One Body, 10/14/2015

Wednesday, October 14, 2015, Pope St. Callistus I

Romans 2:1-11, Psalm 62:2-3, 6-7, 9, Luke 11:42-46
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101415.cfm

HELL, NO

"Do you presume on His kindness and forbearance? Do you not know that God's kindness is an invitation to you to repent?" -Romans 2:4

If we repent of our sins and give our lives to Jesus, we will receive glory, honor, peace (Rm 2:10), and eternal life (Rm 2:7). If, however, our hearts are hard and impenitent (Rm 2:5), if we "selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness" (Rm 2:8), we will receive "wrath and fury" (Rm 2:8), "affliction and anguish" (Rm 2:9). With flaming power, the Lord "will inflict punishment on those who do not acknowledge God nor heed the good news of our Lord Jesus. Such as these will suffer the penalty of eternal ruin apart from the presence of the Lord" (2 Thes 1:8-9). "Those who have done right shall rise to live; the evildoers shall rise to be damned" (Jn 5:29). "The angels will hurl them into the fiery furnace where they will wail and grind their teeth. Then the saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom. Let everyone heed what he hears!" (Mt 13:42-43)

God's love is so great it is terrifying (see Heb 10:31). God's love presents us with an awesome, ultimately irreversible decision with everlasting consequences. Repent and decide to live for Jesus.

Prayer: Father, take me home to You.

Promise: "Only in God is my soul at rest; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my Rock and my Salvation, my Stronghold; I shall not be disturbed at all." -Ps 62:2-3

Praise: As Pope, St. Callistus displayed such extreme and unusual mercy to repentant sinners (cf Lk 15:22ff) that he endured bitter opposition from other leaders.

(For related teaching, order our leaflet, "Accepting Jesus as Lord, Savior, and God" or on audio AV 43-1 or video V-43, or on our website CD #43-1 or DVD 43.)
