SECOND WIND

"Since we for our part are surrounded by this cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every encumbrance of sin which clings to us and persevere in running the race which lies ahead." -Hebrews 12:1

You have been running the Christian race for miles, even for years of your life. Sometimes you were the hare and sometimes the tortoise, but nonetheless you've run the race. Now you may be tempted to stop running. The love of Christ that impelled you for so long seems weaker (2 Cor 5:14). You don't know what happened, but you're slowing almost to a stop. You feel as if you can't take another step. What can you do to keep on running?

Keep your "eyes fixed on Jesus, Who inspires and perfects" your faith (Heb 12:2). Lift your eyes to Jesus on the cross and to Jesus on the throne. Jesus will draw you to Himself (Jn 12:32). "Fear is useless. What is needed is trust" (Mk 5:36). "They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles' wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint" (Is 40:31).

In Jesus Who is the Source of our strength, we have strength for everything (Phil 4:13).

Prayer: Prayer: Jesus, may I start once again to pick up speed in running Your race.

Promise: "He endured the cross, heedless of its shame. He has taken His seat at the right of the throne of God. Remember how He endured the opposition of sinners; hence do not grow despondent or abandon the struggle." -Heb 12:2-3

Praise: St. John Bosco spent his life discipling youth. He also taught them job-related skills, enabling them to succeed both in the world and in the Spirit.

LEFT-OVERS

Jesus "gave the word, and with it the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine." -Mark 5:13

After Jesus drove the unclean spirits out of the demoniac and into the swine, the townfolk begged Jesus to go away (Mk 5:17). The people apparently preferred to live with a legion of demons rather than with the Lord, for at least they could eat pork chops, bacon, and ham.

Jesus left the district, as the people requested. However, by declining the request of the former demoniac to accompany Him, Jesus made sure that His truth, power, and love would stay in the area through the new life of the former demoniac (Mk 5:19).

There are places, businesses, cities, nations, families, and even churches where Jesus has been told to go away. However, He has left us behind. We live in these cities and families. We work in these businesses and churches. Jesus is still present through us, the members of His body. We are to bear His presence in the Christ-less situations of our society, invading the secular world by carrying within us God's presence.

Satan showed his presence through a herd of pigs; may the Lord show His presence through us.

Prayer: Father, may I be a "walking tabernacle" for You in this world (see 1 Cor 3:16).

Promise: "Women received back their dead through resurrection." -Heb 11:35

Praise: Simply by being pregnant with her tenth child and responding joyfully to insults, Elizabeth defends life.

PM eNewsletter 4th Sunday in ordinary time

January 29th, The 4th Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Lord, we celebrate You and Mary, our mother, being presented in the temple.

Mary, our mother, had to be purified approximately forty days after Your birth, and You had
to be given to the Father.

and so You, mom and St. Joseph came to the temple to fullfil the law.

St. Simeon was told by the Holy Spirit that he would see the messiah that day.

Jesus, help us to all realize that when ever we come to Your temple [the church], we truly
see You, the Messiah and Lord, there, waiting for us to give You thanks and adoration.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday JESUS: THE BEATITUDE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/29/2017

Jesus "began to teach them: 'How blest...' " -Matthew 5:2-3

The eight Beatitudes go together. For example, we will never be poor in spirit, that is,
voluntarily live below our means, unless we have mourned for our sins, have the strength of
meekness, and are seeking first God's kingdom and righteousness (see Mt 6:33). Yet if we hunger
and thirst for righteousness, we will certainly be persecuted (see 2 Tm 3:12). However, only
those committed to the Lord and repentant of sin, that is, those who are clean of heart, will
accept the privilege of being persecuted. The clean of heart mourn for their sins and hunger and
thirst for righteousness. The eight Beatitudes are eight ways of looking at one thing.

The basic Beatitude is: "Blessed are the disciples of Jesus, who live to imitate Him."
Blessedness is found by living in and for Jesus. The main thing about the Beatitudes is that
they are revealed to us by Jesus and are revelations of Jesus' character. Jesus is the only name
by which we can be saved and ultimately blessed (see Acts 4:12). Jesus is our only Way, Truth,
and Life (Jn 14:6). God has made Jesus "our Wisdom and also our Justice, our Sanctification, and
our Redemption" (1 Cor 1:30). Jesus is our Love, Hope, Joy, Lord, Savior, and God. Blessed are
those living in Jesus.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit so that I will love Jesus much more deeply.

Promise: "Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth, who have observed His law; seek justice,
seek humility." -Zep 2:3

Praise: All praise to You, Jesus, our Savior, risen Lamb of God. You are the King of kings and
Lord of lords. Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE SICK AND SUFFERING

TURN TO MARY

... I ask you to join me in praying to Mary. May her maternal intercession sustain and accompany
our faith, and obtain for us from Christ her Son hope along our journey of healing and of health,
a sense of fraternity and responsibility, a commitment to integral human development and the joy
of feeling gratitude whenever God amazes us by His fidelity and His mercy.

MOTHER MARY

Mary, our Mother, in Christ you welcome each of us as a son or daughter. Sustain the trusting
expectation of our hearts, succor us in all our infirmities and sufferings, and guide us to
Christ, your Son and our brother. Help us to entrust ourselves to the Father who accomplishes
great things.

OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT

... The ... World Day of the Sick (Feb. 11) ... is an opportunity to reflect ... on the needs of
the sick and ... of all those who suffer. It is also an occasion for those who generously assist
the sick, beginning with family members, health workers and volunteers, to give thanks for their
God-given vocation of accompanying our infirm brothers and sisters.

TESTING OUR FAITH - One Bread, One Body, 1/28/2017

Saturday, January 28, 2017, St. Thomas Aquinas

Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19, Luke 1:69-75, Mark 4:35-41
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/012817.cfm

TESTING OUR FAITH

"Faith is confident assurance concerning what we hope for, and conviction about things we do not see." -Hebrews 11:1

"Test yourselves to see whether you are living in faith" (2 Cor 13:5). You are living in faith if:
* You don't let yourself be manipulated by fear (see Mk 4:40).
* Your relationship with the Lord is so deep and personal that you have confidence and assurance about what you hope for (Heb 11:1).
* You obey God's call even if you don't know where God is calling you (Heb 11:8).
* You are willing to sacrifice anything for God (see Heb 11:17).
* You can move mountains (Mt 17:20).
* You are conquering the world (1 Jn 5:5).
* You have been crucified with Christ, and the life you are living is not your own, but His (Gal 2:19-20).

"All depends on faith" (Rm 4:16). Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). We must cry out: Lord, "increase our faith" (Lk 17:5), and "I believe; help my lack of faith" (Mk 9:24, our translation).

Prayer: Jesus, when You come back a final time, may You find faith on the earth and in me (see Lk 18:8).

Promise: "As a result of this faith, there came forth from one man, who was himself as good as dead, descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sands of the seashore." -Heb 11:12

Praise: St. Thomas wrote a treatise on the Eucharist to clarify some questions that existed at the time. Before he made his work public, he laid it on the altar before the Lord, trusting for guidance (see Is 37:15). This treatise endures even to the present, and was accepted by the Church.

FEED YOUR FAITH - One Bread, One Body, 1/27/2017

Friday, January 27, 2017, St. Angela Merici

Hebrews 10:32-39, Psalm 37:3-6, 23-24, 39-40, Mark 4:26-34
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/012717.cfm

FEED YOUR FAITH

"We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and live." -Hebrews 10:39

We must live by faith to be pleasing to God (Heb 10:38; see also Heb 11:6). We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). "All depends on faith" (Rm 4:16).

Faith in God is "confident assurance" (Heb 11:1) resulting from a good personal relationship with God. All relationships need to be constantly nourished. Therefore, faith needs to be fed.

Faith is fed by the Word of God. "Not on bread alone is man to live but on every utterance that comes from the mouth of God" (Mt 4:4). "It is not the various kinds of fruits that nourish man, but it is Your word that preserves those who believe You!" (Wis 16:26)

Faith is fed by intimate Holy Communion. Jesus promised: "My flesh is real food and My blood real drink. The man who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him" (Jn 6:55-56).

Faith is fed by daily, committed, prayerful communication with the Lord. For example, Mary of Bethany sat at the feet of Jesus to listen to His words instead of preparing supper (Lk 10:39ff). When she did this, she wasn't missing supper; instead, she was feasting on the Lord's presence and love. "The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating or drinking, but of justice, peace, and the joy that is given by the Holy Spirit" (Rm 14:17).

God's gift of faith is very precious. Protect and nourish your faith. "But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" (Lk 18:8, our transl.)

Prayer: Father, through One Bread, One Body, may faith come through hearing, and hearing by God's Word (see Rm 10:17).

Promise: "Do not, then, surrender your confidence; it will have great reward." -Heb 10:35

Praise: St. Angela's coworkers in charity became a new congregation, the Ursulines. Many young girls heard and responded to the gospel during her ministry.

THE BROTHERHOOD AND SISTERHOOD

"I yearn to see you again. That would make my happiness complete." -2 Timothy 1:4

St. Paul loved Sts.Timothy and Titus as brothers in the Lord. He prayed for them "constantly, night and day" (2 Tm 1:3). Timothy loved Paul so much that he cried when they parted (2 Tm 1:4). When Paul "was under all kinds of stress," he was strengthened just by "the arrival of Titus" (2 Cor 7:5-6). He so depended on Titus that he did not preach in Troas because he did not find his brother Titus there (2 Cor 2:12-13).

Paul, Timothy, and Titus loved one another and their other Christian brothers and sisters so much that they finally laid down their lives for Jesus and each other (see 1 Jn 3:16). The Bible seems to indicate that our baptismal brotherhood and sisterhood is as deep a relationship as is possible for a human being. It is not necessarily deeper than the marriage relationship, but it does not seem less deep.

Brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ is not a sexual relationship. It is characterized by "absolute purity" (see 1 Tm 5:2). It is a miraculous relationship only made possible by our baptism into Christ. In baptism, we can be united with our Christian brothers and sisters, as Jesus and the Father are united. Jesus is specifically praying for this (Jn 17:21). Thus, we as brothers and sisters in Christ can share in the unity of the Trinity.

Prayer: Father, give me a divine love for my brothers and sisters.

Promise: "The Spirit God has given us is no cowardly spirit, but rather One That makes us strong, loving, and wise." -2 Tm 1:7

CHOSEN ONES - One Bread, One Body, 1/25/2017

Presentation Ministries has over 15 nourishing, spirit-filled retreats scheduled for 2017 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Retreat Center in Peebles, OH. Visit the link below for a listing of retreats. We look forward to meeting you there!

Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Conversion of St. Paul

Acts 22:3-16 or Acts 9:1-22, Psalm 117:1-2, Mark 16:15-18
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/012517.cfm

CHOSEN ONES

"This man is the instrument I have chosen." -Acts 9:15

St. Paul was chosen to:
* "bring [God's] name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel" (Acts 9:15),
* "suffer for [Jesus'] name" (Acts 9:16),
* recover his "sight and be filled with Holy Spirit" (Acts 9:17),
* be baptized into Jesus (Acts 9:18; Rm 6:3),
* "proclaim in the synagogues that Jesus was the Son of God" (Acts 9:20),
* silence his opponents "with his proofs that this Jesus was the Messiah" (Acts 9:22),
* know God's "will, to look upon the Just One, and to hear the sound of His voice" (Acts 22:14), and
* be God's servant and witness (Acts 26:16).

You too are chosen by God in many of the same ways that Paul was, but also in certain unique ways. God tells you: "It was not you who chose Me, it was I Who chose you to go forth and bear fruit" (Jn 15:16). You are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people He claims for His own" (1 Pt 2:9). "Because you are God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt mercy, with kindness, humility, meekness, and patience" (Col 3:12).

You are a chosen child of God. You are blessed. Your life is very important. You are always loved. You are chosen.

Prayer: Father, may we see many miraculous conversions today.

Promise: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news to all creation. The man who believes in it and accepts baptism will be saved; the man who refuses to believe in it will be condemned." -Mk 16:15-16

Praise: Jesus temporarily blinded St. Paul to enable him to open the eyes of the Gentiles and turn them from darkness to light, from Satan to God, obtaining forgiveness of their sins (see Acts 26:16-18).

MYSTERY

"By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." -Hebrews 10:10

God has graciously revealed Himself to us through creation, history (especially the Exodus), the Jewish people, the Law, the prophets, Wisdom literature, the covenants, the priesthood, the Davidic dynasty, etc. Nevertheless, "in times past, God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways" (Heb 1:1).

"In this, the final age, He has spoken to us through His Son" (Heb 1:2). Jesus is the eternal, incarnate, and final Word. There is no further public revelation after the apostles and the Bible. The Holy Spirit has revealed so much to us. The Church will spend all of the rest of time "to grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love" (Eph 3:18).

However, even with God's astounding revelation, God is primarily mystery.
* Why and how are there three Persons in one God?
* How can the eternal Son of God empty Himself (Phil 2:7) and be fully God and fully man?
* How does the Father eternally beget the Son?
* How does the Father through and with Jesus eternally send the Holy Spirit?
* How does Jesus' once-and-for-all sacrifice on Calvary transcend time and space?
* How does God live in me and I in Him?

Let us celebrate these mysteries.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to reveal to me Your depths (1 Cor 2:11).

Promise: "Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to Me." -Mk 3:35

Praise: St. Francis was a gentle bishop and teacher. He was fond of saying, "A spoonful of honey attracts more flies than a barrelful of vinegar."

SIN-CERE - One Bread, One Body, 1/23/2017

SIN-CERE

"Now He has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sins once for all by His sacrifice." -Hebrews 9:26

Jesus' "death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions" (Heb 9:15). "Christ was offered up once to take away the sins of many" (Heb 9:28). "You can depend on this as worthy of full acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Tm 1:15). The essence of Jesus' mission is to save sinners.

Today, it has become unfashionable to talk about sin. We, who call ourselves believers, don't want to put people on a guilt trip, sound judgmental, or be negative, so we don't talk about sin. When we don't talk about sin, we warp God's plan of salvation and come to the false conclusion that we don't need Jesus, His death, and the shedding of His blood that much. Let's repent and call sin "sin," not a fault or shortcoming. Let's hate sin and love sinners. Let's realize that a brief guilt trip which leads to repentance is much better than a trip to hell forever. Let's speak of sin, repentance, Confession, and especially of Jesus' loving forgiveness.

Prayer: Father, "thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me" (Ps 51:4).

Promise: "Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wondrous deeds." -Ps 98:1

Praise: St. Vincent endured much torture rather than deny his Lord. He persevered in his agony by "praying and singing hymns to God" (Acts 16:25).

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday in ordinary time

January 22nd, The 3rd Sunday in ordinary time

Jesus, You called St. Paul, who was a sinner, a man who thought that You and Your followers
were to be eliminated.

When Paul asked You who You were that he was persecuting, You said that "when you persecute
the least of my people, you persecute me".

Jesus, continue to help all our brothers and sisters, who today are being persecuted for
their belief in You.

Help us to pray for them and assist them in every way possible.

Let us do what we can to bring religious freedom to all people.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday DO-DROPS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/22/2017

"They immediately abandoned their nets and became His followers." -Matthew 4:20

Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him and become fishers of men (Mt 4:19).
We too are repeatedly appealing for workers for the harvest (see Mt 9:38). Some very busy people
answer our appeals and thus become even busier, taking on more work and responsibilities. The
sacrificial love of these very busy people is beautiful. Although Jesus does assign more work to
the few existing workers (see Lk 12:48; Lk 19:17ff), He is constantly calling more and more
people to become workers. Jesus plans to give these prospective workers the time to follow Him
and work for Him by changing their jobs, habits, and lives.

Do more work for the Lord, but first ask the Lord what you should drop out of your life. If
you're very busy already, don't add on; instead substitute. If you don't do this first according
to God's will, you will probably do it later against His will. For example, if the Lord is
calling you to lead a Bible study, feed the starving, or heal the sick, drop something (like TV).
However, if you try to work more for Him and still watch TV as much, you may later drop prayer
time or time with your family.

Take on new jobs for Jesus. Drop something first, however, because what you will drop later will
usually not be the right thing.

Prayer: Father, may I get less busy before I get more busy. Purify me.

Promise: "Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel - not with wordy 'wisdom,'
however, lest the cross of Christ be rendered void of its meaning!" -1 Cor 1:17

Praise: Risen Jesus, we exalt You. King of Kings, we praise and worship You. Be glorified forever.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2017-01.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE SICK AND SUFFERING

"SURE SIGN"

I encourage all of you ... to see in Mary, Health of the Infirm, the sure sign of God's love
for every human being and a model of surrender to His will. May you always find in faith,
nourished by the Word and by the Sacraments, the strength needed to love God, even in the
experience of illness.

"A GIFT OF THEIR OWN"

Let us ask Mary Immaculate for the grace always to relate to the sick as persons who certainly
need assistance, at times even for the simplest of things, but who have a gift of their own to
share with others.

A BRIGHTER FACE

The gaze of Mary, Comfort of the Afflicted, brightens the face of the Church in her daily
commitment to the suffering and those in need. The precious fruits of this solicitude for the
world of suffering and sickness are a reason for gratitude to the Lord Jesus, who out of
obedience to the will of the Father became one of us, even enduring death on the cross for the
redemption of mankind.

RELATIVE-LY CRAZY - One Bread, One Body, 1/21/2017

Saturday, January 21, 2017, St. Agnes

Hebrews 9:2-3, 11-14, Psalm 47:2-3, 6-9, Mark 3:20-21

RELATIVE-LY CRAZY

"When His family heard of this they came to take charge of Him, saying, 'He is out of His mind.' " -Mark 3:21

Jesus' relatives thought He was out of His mind. We Christians have been baptized into Jesus (Rm 6:3). We share in His divine nature (2 Pt 1:4). We are called and graced to be holy as He is holy (see 1 Pt 1:15-16), pure as He is pure (1 Jn 3:3), and perfected as He and His Father are perfect (Mt 5:48). We are called to be Jesus' disciples - to imitate Him and be formed into His image (Rm 8:29). As we become more like Jesus, those who are like Jesus' relatives will come to the conclusion that we too are out of our minds. We may even be worthy of being persecuted for the sake of Jesus' name (see Acts 5:41). Of course, the ultimate compliment to a Christian is to be martyred - to be killed as Jesus was killed.

There is reason to believe that in today's culture of death more people are like Jesus' relatives than like Jesus. Therefore, those who are like Jesus can expect to be considered out of their minds and to be persecuted (2 Tm 3:12) and even martyred. Let us live accordingly.

Prayer: Father, make me so like Jesus that I will be holy, persecuted, joyful, misunderstood, loving, and rejected.

Promise: "...how much more will the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself up unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God!" -Heb 9:14

Praise: St. Agnes is said to have been more joyful at her martyrdom than the most exultant brides have been at their weddings.

(For a related teaching, order our leaflet, "Be Holy For I Am Holy".)

"THE KILLING FIELDS"

Jesus "went up the mountain and summoned the men He Himself had decided on, who came and joined Him." -Mark 3:13

In the USA, in a few days will be the forty-fourth anniversary of the Supreme Court's legalization of abortion. This decision legalized millions of serial killings. It is a gigantic step backward into the culture of death. It is a capitulation to Hitler and the Third Reich. Hitler lost World War II militarily, but his diabolical ideas reign supreme today in our culture of death.

However, there is hope, because there is Jesus. Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:6), has already conquered death. We must commit ourselves to the "new covenant" of Jesus (see Heb 8:8; Jer 31:31ff). We must live our Baptisms as fully active members of the body of Christ, the Church. We are members of the Church that has been given the "authority to expel demons" and to "preach the good news" of Jesus (Mk 3:14-15). By obedience to the Lord - especially to His call to pray and fast (Mt 17:21) - we will drive out the demons of abortion and displace our culture of death with a civilization of love and life. There is hope in Jesus and only in Jesus.

Prayer: Father, may I die to save lives and to lead others to You.

Promise: "Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven." -Ps 85:12

Praise: St. Sebastian had a ministry of encouraging martyrs to persevere to the end. He gave witness to his preaching by giving his own life for Jesus.

(Women, plan ahead to attend our annual Women's Retreat, March 18, 2017. "The" "Dignity and Vocation of Women" by Pope St. John Paul II will be the topic. THE MOB SCENE

Jesus "is always able to save those who approach God through Him, since He forever lives to make intercession for them." -Hebrews 7:25

Something about Jesus makes us feel like mobbing Him. "A great crowd followed Him from Galilee, and an equally great multitude came to Him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, Transjordan, and the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon" (Mk 3:7-8). "In view of their numbers, He told His disciples to have a fishing boat ready for Him so that He could avoid the press of the crowd against Him. Because He had cured many, all who had afflictions kept pushing toward Him to touch Him" (Mk 3:9-10), and unclean spirits would "fling themselves down at His feet" (Mk 3:11).

St. Augustine said that our hearts are restless until they rest in Jesus. When we become aware that Jesus is near us, we sense that we should run up to Him (see Mk 10:17) and hold on to Him for dear life (see Mt 28:9; Jn 20:17). We sense that He is our only Hope, and we will be lost forever without Him. Every person has an emptiness which only Jesus can fill. Therefore, throw yourself at the feet of Jesus and hold on to Him forever.

Prayer: Father, give me a passionate love for Jesus.

Promise: "May all who seek You exult and be glad in You, and may those who love Your salvation say ever, 'The Lord be glorified.' " -Ps 40:17

Praise: Louisa, who had not read the Bible, browsed the book of Revelation out of curiosity. When she read Revelation 3:14-16, the Holy Spirit touched her heart. She received the grace of conversion, fell to her knees, and gave her life to Jesus. She returned to Mass after an absence of many years. She now leads a prayer group and an evangelization ministry.

Hebrews 7:1-3, 15-17, Psalm 110:1-4, Mark 3:1-6

"YOU ARE A PRIEST"

"The matter is clearer still if another priest is appointed according to the likeness of Melchizedek." -Hebrews 7:15

The Israelites were enslaved, defeated in war, starved to death, exiled, and oppressed. In their pain, they asked Yahweh how He would free them. They received the revelation that they would be saved by the priesthood.

The Christians to whom the book of Hebrews was written were persecuted and martyred by the Roman government. They "endured mockery, scourging, even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, sawed in two, put to death at sword's point" (Heb 11:36-37). They received the revelation that Jesus, the "High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek" (Heb 5:10), had saved them by His sacrifice on Calvary. By living the Eucharist, the presence of Jesus' perfect sacrifice on Calvary, Christians are freed by Jesus, the High Priest.

Therefore, share in Jesus' priesthood and live your baptismal priesthood (see 1 Pt 2:9; Rv 5:10) by:
* celebrating the Mass daily or as often as possible,
* encouraging the ministerial priesthood and promoting vocations to it,
* offering and patiently bearing "even the hardships of life" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 901),
* "worshipping everywhere" by your "holy actions" (ibid),
* offering as spiritual sacrifices all your "works, prayers, and apostolic undertakings, family and married life, daily work, relaxation of mind and body" (ibid), and
* consecrating "the world itself to God" by the holiness of your life (ibid).

Love Jesus, the High Priest. Live the Eucharist, His perfect offering. Share in Jesus' priesthood. Live your baptismal priesthood and change our culture of death into a civilization of love and life.

Prayer: Father, teach me about my share in Christ's priesthood.

Promise: "His hand was perfectly restored." -Mk 3:5

Praise: Susan attends Mass daily and stays for adoration.

TIE THE KNOT

"Like a sure and firm anchor, that hope extends beyond the veil through which Jesus, our Forerunner, has entered on our behalf." -Hebrews 6:19-20

On the annual Jewish Day of Atonement, the high priest entered into the presence of God in the Holy of Holies in the Temple to atone for the sins of the people. No one except the High Priest could enter "beyond the veil" which separated the Holy of Holies from the people, and even he could only enter that one day a year. The Ark of the Covenant, representing God's special presence, lay inside the Holy of Holies. In the Old Testament, people who touched the Ark or who entered God's presence unauthorized dropped dead (see e.g. 2 Sm 6:7). Thus, the people tied a rope around the High Priest before he entered "beyond the veil," so that if he died, the people could drag him out without risking death. The hope of the people for atonement with God lay with the High Priest attached to that rope.

The author of Hebrews likens an anchor to the High Priest. An anchor is likewise tied to a rope, so the anchor remains attached to the ship and the ship attached to the anchor. The book of Hebrews proclaims that Jesus is our great High Priest. He has entered beyond the veil to make atonement with God on our behalf, for the forgiveness of our sins. Not only that, but upon Jesus' death, that very veil was torn in two, "from top to bottom," that is, by the hand of God and not by the hand of man (Mt 27:51). Jesus has torn open the veil that separated us from God. In Jesus we now have full access to God (Eph 2:18). Alleluia!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, my Anchor, tie me so securely to You that I might never be able to drift away from You.

Promise: "God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him by your service, past and present, to His holy people." -Heb 6:10

Praise: St. Anthony sold his possessions, gave them to the poor (Mt 19:21), and relied on God alone (Mt 6:34).

PATCH-WORK

"No one sews a patch of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak." -Mark 2:21

Our lives are sometimes pictured as a fabric. This fabric consists of family, marriage, children, friends, work, finances, social life, habits, entertainment, service, etc. When we give our lives to Jesus, He sews into our lives "a patch of unshrunken cloth" (Mk 2:21). As this patch shrinks, it stretches all the other parts of the fabric of our lives. Therefore, we need a new lifestyle in which we are willing to be stretched and transformed. Otherwise, life in Christ will tear us apart (see Mk 2:21).

When we give our lives to Jesus, He will make us fruitful. No matter which vocation we have, we will have many spiritual children. This will radically alter our social life, give us little time to indulge our habits, distract us from our distractions, and stretch our finances. This one patch of life in Christ either tears up our lives or becomes our whole lives.

If we decide to be clothed with Christ (Gal 3:27; Rm 13:14; Eph 4:24; Col 3:10), we are then clothed with humility (1 Pt 5:5), power (Lk 24:49), mercy, kindness, meekness, and patience (Col 3:12). Let the patch of Jesus that covers one tear in your life become your entire life.

Prayer: Father, help me change clothes, that is, the very fabric of my life.

Promise: "Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered; and when perfected, He became the Source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him." -Heb 5:8-9

Praise: Carol thought that giving up her job to stay at home with her children was bad news indeed. Now she rejoices to be able to home-school her children and raise them up in the faith.

PM eNewsletter 2nd Sunday in ordinary time

January 15th, The second Sunday in ordinary time

Jesus, now that the new year has settled in, and all the celebrating is over, let us realize that in
You we always have the celebration of the mass to look forward to.

Let us make the mass a time of praise and prayer, a time of adoration and oneness with You.

Let us see in the breaking of the bread a love that we really can't understand, but yet it is real.

Let us partake of the food of life, that feeds us, and prepares us for the never ending mass of eternity.

Thank You for Your love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE WOMB
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/15/2017

"Look! There is the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world!" -John 1:29

God's Servant was formed from the womb (Is 49:5). The Lord "knitted" us in our mothers' wombs
(see Ps 139:13). From our mothers' wombs, the Lord gave us our names (see Is 49:1). The Lord is
working with children in the womb both physically and spiritually.

This means:

- We should pray for and with children in the womb.
- Pregnant mothers should receive Holy Communion, and their babies in the womb will share in
those Communions.
- We should pray and fast to protect children in the womb from abortion (see The Gospel of Life,
Pope St. John Paul II, 100).
- We should invite parents who have aborted their children to come to Jesus to receive
forgiveness and healing.
- We should ask aborted babies to pray for us.
- Most of all, we must invite everyone to give their lives totally to Jesus, the Way, the Truth,
and the Life (Jn 14:6). Jesus is our only Savior, Lord, and Hope.

Prayer: Father, give me the grace to die if necessary to save the lives of children in the wombs.

Promise: "It is He Who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit." -Jn 1:33

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, the Lamb of God, the Way, the Truth, the Life, Savior, Lord,
Hope, and God. We lay our lives before You. Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE SICK AND SUFFERING

OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT

... The ... World Day of the Sick (Feb. 11) ... is an opportunity to reflect ... on the needs
of the sick and ... of all those who suffer. It is also an occasion for those who generously
assist the sick, beginning with family members, health workers and volunteers, to give thanks
for their God-given vocation of accompanying our infirm brothers and sisters.

RENEWED ENERGY

This celebration likewise gives the Church renewed spiritual energy for carrying out ever more
fully that fundamental part of her mission which includes serving the poor, the infirm, the
suffering, the outcast and the marginalized...

CLOSE TO YOU

I express my closeness to all of you, our suffering brothers and sisters, and to your families,
as well as my appreciation for all those in different roles of service and in healthcare
institutions ...
