HUMILITY INCARNATE

"Go and sit in the lowest place." —Luke 14:10

How's this for humility? Jesus was with God in the glory of heaven. Then
He humbled Himself to take on human flesh and dwell on earth (Jn 1:14). He
was born in the "lowest place," a stable, and was laid in a manger, an
animal feeding trough from which no person would dream of eating (see Lk
2:7). He did not live in the royal city, Jerusalem, but in the lowly,
disregarded village of Nazareth (see Jn 1:46). During His public ministry,
He was homeless (see Lk 9:58) and was thrown out of towns (e.g. Lk 4:29).
He was condemned to die the death of a criminal: crucifixion. Could there
be any lower, more humbling place than hanging on a cross in agony, being
mocked publicly and unmercifully?

Jesus found a lower, more humbling place. He Who dwells "in unapproachable
light" (1 Tm 6:16) has taken on the appearance of bread and wine in the
Eucharist. He resides in the tabernacles of our churches, sometimes
relegated to a humble place barely noticeable to the casual visitor. Often
He is ignored in His eucharistic presence, even by Catholics. Won't Jesus
ever stop finding the lowest place? Why does He so humble Himself?

Jesus is "gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29), and we are tortured and
confused at heart (Jer 17:9). Jesus will continue to humble Himself if
that's what it takes to penetrate our hardened hearts. In response, humble
yourself before Him (Jas 4:10).

This weekend, clothe yourself with humility (1 Pt 5:5), and spend at least
ten minutes in prayer in front of the humble, eucharistic Jesus in the
tabernacle of your church.

Prayer: Jesus, to the humble You show kindness (1 Pt 5:5). May I "bow
humbly" (1 Pt 5:6) before You every day of my life.

Promise: "All Israel will be saved." —Rm 11:26

Praise: Jack led an immoral life for decades. His mother offered her
sufferings from cancer for her son's conversion. After her death, John
repented, returned to the Church, and began an apostolate to teach the
faith to Catholics through television.

GOD IS JEWISH - One Bread, One Body, 10/30/2009

Friday, October 30, 2009

Romans 9:1-5, Psalm 147:12-15, 19-20, Luke 14:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/103009.shtml

GOD IS JEWISH

"Theirs were the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the law-giving, the
worship, and the promises; theirs were the patriarchs, and from them came
the Messiah." —Romans 9:4-5

Jesus loves Jews. Jesus chose to be a Jew. Jesus is God (Jn 1:1, 14).
Therefore, God is Jewish. If we love God, we must love Jews. We must love
Jews so much that we would do anything (Rm 9:3) to lead them to accept
Jesus as King of the Jews.

First, we should apologize to Jews for the sins we have committed or let
be committed against them. Then we should "pray for the peace of
Jerusalem" (Ps 122:6) and care so much for the Jewish people that, like
Jesus, we would weep over Jerusalem (Lk 19:41). Jesus wants to gather His
Jewish children "together as a mother bird collects her young under her
wings" (Lk 13:34).

The Lord has promised: "I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery
lest you be conceited; blindness has come upon part of Israel until the
full number of Gentiles enter in, and then all Israel will be saved" (Rm
11:25-26).

Love Jesus, the Jew. Love the Jews enough to invite them to accept Jesus
as the "King of the Jews" (Jn 19:19).

Prayer: Father, may I love, respect, pray for, and witness to the Jews.

Promise: "He took the man, healed him, and sent him on his way." —Lk 14:4

Praise: Norma married a Jewish man who was inspired to embrace the Church
after observing her example.

Keep it simple

Source: Joyce Meyer

Years ago, I lived a very complicated life. For example, there were many
times I wanted to have people in our home on the weekends for times of
recreation, relaxation, and fun fellowship. More often than not, though,
when these get-togethers were over, I ended up exhausted! Why? Because I
didn't know how to live a simple life.

I say my life was complicated, but the truth is, I was the one who
complicated my own life. My approach to life needed to change so I could
enjoy it.

Ideas to have people over started out simple enough. Dave and I would ask
one or two couples over for a simple outdoor barbeque. But then I would add
others to the invitation list because I didn't want anyone's feelings to be
hurt.

Before the group arrived, I felt that the house had to be immaculate, so I
cleaned everything in sight. I thought the lawn needed to be perfectly
manicured, so I made sure it was. Then I wanted new patio furniture-or at
least a fresh coat of paint on the old furniture we had. So that was another
job that had to be done.

Finally, I would make sure all the children looked as though they had just
stepped out of the pages of a magazine. Of course, my own appearance wasn't
excluded. I felt I needed to be wearing just the right outfit and have every
hair in just the right place.

When it came to preparing the food, I started with an easy menu-something
like hamburgers on the grill, a bowl of baked beans, some potato chips, and
a store-bought dessert. But I always changed my plans because I wanted to
impress my guests.

I bought steaks instead of hamburgers and spent considerable time making
homemade potato salad and enough additional side dishes to feed a small
army. Where drinks were concerned, I didn't believe iced tea, water, coffee,
and lemonade were sufficient, so I made sure we also offered four or five
different kinds of soda pop. By the time my guests arrived, I was too tired
to enjoy them, and at times found myself resenting them for being there!

Even during their visit, I kept working. If they walked into my kitchen, I
practically followed them with a broom to make sure they didn't track crumbs
onto my carpet. If they put down a glass, I snatched it up and washed it.
Then I had the nerve to resent everyone else because I was working so hard
and they were enjoying themselves!

I ended up hosting parties I didn't enjoy, for people we were not even close
to, serving food we couldn't afford. I was an expert when it came to
complicating even the simplest things.

After many experiences such as the one I just described, I came to a point
in my life where I knew God was dealing with me about simplicity. I began to
realize more and more how complicated my life had actually become-and even
worse-I realized it was all my fault. And if I wanted things to be different
and my life to be simpler, I was the one who would have to do the changing.

I also realized that my thought processes were complicated as well. My
relationship with God was complicated because I was trying to earn His love
and acceptance instead of simply receiving it by faith. Everything about my
life was complicated. I thought I had a lot of complex problems, but I was
actually complicating things for myself with my approach to life, people,
and everyday situations. I was complicated on the inside; so naturally,
everything about my life externally was complicated too.

Let me encourage you today to start making decisions without second-guessing
yourself or worrying about the choices you make. Don't be double-minded or
wishy-washy, because doubting your decisions after you make them will only
serve to steal the enjoyment from everything you do.

Make the best decisions you can, and trust God with the results. Don't be
anxious or afraid of being wrong. Be decisive. Whatever you need to do in
life, just do it-and remember to keep it simple!

Happiness visiting www.joycemeyer.org.

"HOLD YOUR GROUND" (Eph 6:13) - One Bread, One Body, 10/29/2009

Romans 8:31-39, Psalm 109:21-22, 26-27, 30-31, Luke 13:31-35

"HOLD YOUR GROUND" (Eph 6:13)

"Certain Pharisees came to Him. 'Go on Your way!' they said. 'Leave this
place!' " —Luke 13:31

When it comes to spiritual warfare, there is truth in the axiom: "Give him
(Satan) an inch and he'll take a mile." Because God protects His servants
when He sets them in their place, Satan can't budge us when we occupy the
position God has for us. Therefore, Satan tempts us to move, to "leave
this place" (Lk 13:31). If he can manipulate us into stepping out of God's
position for us, then Satan will soon shove us as far away from God as he
can.

Notice that Jesus was specifically tempted to "go" out of position and
"leave this place." The Pharisees told Jesus that Herod was trying to kill
Him (Lk 13:31). Jesus knew that, in His God-given position, no harm would
come to Him until His hour had come. In addition, Satan tempted Jesus to
fear death by Herod. It turned out that Jesus had nothing to fear from
Herod, for when Herod had a golden opportunity to actually kill Jesus, he
didn't kill Him or even harm Him (see Lk 23:7-12). How often is that true
with us? How much energy do we waste on fears and threats which never come
to pass? Notice Jesus' answer to the Pharisees: "I must proceed on course"
(Lk 13:33). Jesus didn't budge an inch.

Ask God if you are in the place He wants you to be. If not, follow His
directions to get into that place very soon. Then "hold your ground" (Eph
6:13). "Stand fast" (Eph 6:14). "Stand firm" (Eph 6:11). "Fear not! Stand
your ground, and you will see the victory the Lord will win for you...The
Lord Himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still" (Ex
14:13-14).

Prayer: Father, I will put on Your armor so as "to stand firm against the
tactics of the devil" (Eph 6:11).

Promise: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" —Rm 8:31

Praise: Trusting in the Lord, Sarah ventured into new ground out of her
comfort zone and saw the glory of God.

"A CHOSEN RACE" (1 Pt 2:9) - One Bread, One Body, 10/28/2009

Wednesday, October 28, 2009, Sts. Simon & Jude

Ephesians 2:19-22, Psalm 19:2-5, Luke 6:12-16
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/102809.shtml

"A CHOSEN RACE" (1 Pt 2:9)

"He called His disciples and selected twelve of them to be His
apostles." —Luke 6:13

Jesus called a number of disciples together and chose twelve to be His
apostles (Lk 6:13), the ones He would specially form and mold into the
foundation of His Church (Eph 2:20; Rv 21:14). The entire basis for the
Church rests on the fact that Jesus selected some for special leadership.
This means that the Church is not a democracy, nor did Jesus intend for it
to be one.

This didn't mean that Jesus snubbed the other disciples who were not
chosen for apostleship. On the contrary, after sending the twelve out on
mission (Lk 9:1ff), He "appointed a further seventy-two and sent them in
pairs before Him to every town and place He intended to visit" (Lk 10:1).
Jesus made a point to tell these seventy-two to "remember" that He Himself
was sending them (Lk 10:3). If we "remember" what Jesus sends us to do, we
are less likely to fall into the trap of comparing our status to that of
others (see Jn 21:21). The Twelve themselves fell into this trap on
several occasions (e.g. Mt 20:24).

"Because [we] are God's chosen ones" (Col 3:12), we will do "only what the
Lord assigned" us (1 Cor 3:5). We will gladly support others whom the Lord
has chosen, including the apostles and their successors, the bishops, who
are leading the life the Lord assigned them (1 Cor 7:17). When we do this,
we are "fitted together and [take] shape as a holy temple in the Lord"
(Eph 2:21). "God has set each member of the body in the place He wanted it
to be" (1 Cor 12:18). Love the Church as Jesus does (Eph 5:25).

Prayer: Father, thank You for calling me to belong to Your body. I devote
myself to the health and strength of Your Church.

Promise: "You are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the
household of God." —Eph 2:19

Praise: Sts. Simon and Jude had important places in the early Church and
eternal places in the New Jerusalem.

"WAIT IN JOYFUL HOPE" - One Bread, One Body, 10/27/2009

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Romans 8:18-25, Psalm 126:1-6, Luke 13:18-21
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/102709.shtml

"WAIT IN JOYFUL HOPE"

"Hoping for what we cannot see means awaiting it with patient
endurance." —Romans 8:25

"In hope we were saved" (Rm 8:24). Jesus saved us by dying on the cross,
and He saved us "in hope" (Rm 8:24). While dying "in agony" (Rm 8:22),
Jesus could only see horrible suffering. He couldn't feel the presence of
His Father, and cried out loudly to express His feeling of abandonment (Ps
22:2). "Hoping for what" He could not see, the glory of a reunion with His
Father in heaven and the salvation of those who were presently killing
Him, meant "awaiting it with patient endurance" (Rm 8:25).

As Father Al Lauer, the founder of this booklet, often proclaimed on these
pages, Jesus is our only Hope, but He is the only Hope we need. Jesus
hoped so perfectly that, in a sense, He was Hope incarnate. Are you
trapped in a situation that seems hopeless? Jesus is your Hope. Are "the
sufferings of the present" (Rm 8:18) overwhelming? Then compare them "with
the glory to be revealed" (Rm 8:18) when we join Jesus, our "Hope of
glory" (Col 1:27), in heaven. Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil 3:20). We
must live with one foot in heaven (Col 3:1) and the other on earth (Mt
28:19; Jn 17:11). The best way we can live in hope is to go to Mass as
often as possible. At Mass, "heaven is wedded to earth" (Easter Vigil
Exultet). We eat at the banquet of the Lord while still on earth. Jesus
"encourages those who are losing hope" (Sir 17:19). Are you losing hope?
Go to Mass today, receive Hope, and "wait in joyful hope."

Prayer: Jesus, I know that hope does not disappoint (Rm 5:5). I will not
sin against hope, but "rejoice in hope" (Rm 12:12).

Promise: "Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing." —Ps 126:5

Praise: Joan's hope never wavered as she prayed her loved ones back into
the Church.

IN DEBT - One Bread, One Body, 10/26/2009

IN DEBT

"We are debtors, then, my brothers — but not to the flesh." —Romans 8:12

The Bible says: "We are debtors." That's one verse almost everyone agrees
with. Most people, even Christians, are in debt. They owe on their houses,
their cars, their education, their possessions, etc. However, the Bible
says we are not to be debtors to others or to the flesh. We don't owe it
to ourselves to buy this, eat that, or go on this vacation. The only debt
we should owe is the debt to love one another (Rm 13:8). We owe each other
love, encouragement (see Phil 2:1), and respect. Most of all, we owe a
debt of love and gratitude to God. We also incur a debt to God and others
because of sin. However, we can be released from that debt because, when
we repent and ask the Lord, He will forgive our debts as we forgive our
debtors (Mt 6:12, RSV-CE).

In summary:
* We shouldn't be in debt financially.
* We don't owe a thing to ourselves.
* We should repent of our sins and ask the Lord to forgive us our debts
due to sin.
* We should constantly be paying on our debt to love one another.
* We should worship, love, and obey the Lord because of our debt to
Him.
* We should rejoice that we can't ever pay our debt to the Lord, but
are privileged to try forever.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me Jesus to pay my debts on Calvary.

Promise: "He laid His hand on her, and immediately she stood up straight
and began thanking God." —Lk 13:13

Praise: Timothy prays in Eucharistic adoration every Friday.

PM eNewsletter 30th Sunday in ordinary time

October 25th 30th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, it is good for us to pray for all those who have
died and gone before us.

Give us the inspiration to pray especially for those in
purgatory who have no one to pray for them.

Let us be aware that those in purgatory depend on
us to get them into the glory of heaven through our
prayers, masses, and the charitable acts that we do
for there release.

Jesus, continue to grace us to understand that our
brothers and sisters who have gone before us have
changed into eternal beings that are now in the
communion of saints forever and ever.

Amen and Amen

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday WANT ADS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=10/25/2009

"Jesus asked him, 'What do you want Me to do
for you?' " —Mark 10:51

One of Jesus' favorite questions is: "What do you
want?" (Mk 10:51; Mt 20:21; Jn 5:6) Many times we
don't know what we want, and Jesus challenges
us to clarify this.

Often we want things which are incompatible. We
want to sin and still have a loving relationship with
the Lord. We want to "do our own thing" and still
be free. We want both selfishness and happiness.
If we face reality, we see that these things are
incompatible. Therefore, we must decide what we
want most and reject the other "wants."

Another problem in deciding what we want is
denial. We see this especially with alcoholism and
other addictive behavior. But all sin produces some
denial. In denial, we will not admit our true needs.
This prevents us from wanting these needs fulfilled.
For example, if sinners deny their sin, they'll not
want forgiveness. If the spiritually blind deny their
blindness, they'll not want sight. If the enslaved
deny their slavery, they'll not want freedom. We
can even deny our denial.

Therefore, we must repent, face reality, and come
out of denial. Now, we can answer Jesus'
question: "What do you want Me to do for you?"

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE CHURCH AND MISSION

"TRANSFORM THE WORLD"

The Church wishes to transform the world through
the proclamation of the Gospel of love, "that can
always illuminate a world grown dim and give us the
courage needed to keep living and working ... and in
this way .... cause the light of God to enter into the
world" (Deus Caritas Est, 39)

RENEWED COMMITMENT

The mission of the Church ... is to call all peoples to
the salvation accomplished by God through His
incarnate Son. It is therefore necessary to renew
our commitment to proclaiming the Gospel, which
is a leaven of freedom and progress, brotherhood,
unity and peace.

"EVER MORE URGENT"

I would "confirm once more that the task of
evangelizing all people constitutes the essential
mission of the Church" (Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14), a
duty and a mission which the widespread and
profound changes in present- day society render
ever more urgent. At stake is the eternal salvation
of persons, the goal and fulfillment of human
history and the universe.

WANT ADS

"Jesus asked him, 'What do you want Me to do for you?' " —Mark 10:51

One of Jesus' favorite questions is: "What do you want?" (Mk 10:51; Mt
20:21; Jn 5:6) Many times we don't know what we want, and Jesus challenges
us to clarify this.

Often we want things which are incompatible. We want to sin and still have
a loving relationship with the Lord. We want to "do our own thing" and
still be free. We want both selfishness and happiness. If we face reality,
we see that these things are incompatible. Therefore, we must decide what
we want most and reject the other "wants."

Another problem in deciding what we want is denial. We see this especially
with alcoholism and other addictive behavior. But all sin produces some
denial. In denial, we will not admit our true needs. This prevents us from
wanting these needs fulfilled. For example, if sinners deny their sin,
they'll not want forgiveness. If the spiritually blind deny their
blindness, they'll not want sight. If the enslaved deny their slavery,
they'll not want freedom. We can even deny our denial.

Therefore, we must repent, face reality, and come out of denial. Now, we
can answer Jesus' question: "What do you want Me to do for you?"

Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, may I want what You want.

Promise: "They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide
them." —Jer 31:9

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Healer, Redeemer, and Savior! Heaven and earth
are full of Your glory. Alleluia!

"NO CONDEMNATION" (Rm 8:1)

"Then perhaps it will bear fruit. If not, it shall be cut down." —Luke
13:9

In today's Gospel reading, Jesus bluntly states that if we don't bear
fruit, we will suffer a tragic end and be cut down like a barren tree. In
other words, if we don't lead people to Christ, or at least try to lead
them, we sin. We will be punished, unless we repent.

This month we celebrate World Mission Sunday. Most of us believe we should
share our faith. We agree that if many people gave their lives to Jesus,
this world would be a much better place. We realize that somebody shared
their faith with us. So we see why we ought to pass on the favor.
Consequently, hardly anyone is against missionary work or evangelization.
Yet we still don't do it. What's the problem?

One of the obstacles to evangelizing is self-condemnation. When we feel
condemned, worthless, unforgiven, and guilty, we aren't aware of any "good
news" to share. Even if we theoretically believed in the good news of
Jesus, we wouldn't feel adequate to express it. To come out of
self-condemnation, we must renew our baptisms, for when we were baptized
into Christ (Rm 6:3), we were freed from condemnation (Rm 8:1). We must
also repent of sin. When we are guilty of sin, we expose ourselves again
to condemnation. We may also need to be healed. Many of us have repented,
confessed our sins, and are forgiven, but may not feel forgiven. We need
healing to come out of self-condemnation. Then we will be more likely to
go out and share our faith, the faith by which we have been healed.

Prayer: Father, free me completely from condemnation so I will tell
everyone about the One Who freed me.

Promise: "But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the
Spirit of God dwells in you." —Rm 8:9

Praise: A man attempted to kill St. Anthony after he converted the man's
mistress. Anthony expressed his forgiveness by having the death penalty
dropped from the man's sentence.

SPRINGTIME IN OCTOBER

"Why can you not interpret the present time?" —Luke 12:56

Most of the time it's easy to predict the weather. Jesus claimed it was
also easy to interpret the signs of the times (Lk 12:56). What are the
signs of our times? What time is it spiritually?

Pope John Paul II prophesied it is early "springtime" for the Church
(Mission of the Redeemer, 86). This means we have weathered a long, cold
spiritual winter. Some have spiritually died during this winter; others
are starving, sick, or weakened. We must reach out to resurrect, nourish,
and heal our Christian brothers and sisters. We should also tell them the
good news that, although early spring sometimes looks like winter, it is
still spring. We have the certain hope of new life. "For see, the winter
is past, the rains are over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the
time of pruning the vines has come, and the song of the dove is heard in
our land" (Sg 2:11-12).

Although we may be getting ready for winter in the calendar year, winter
is over in the spiritual calendar. The dove, the Holy Spirit, is singing a
new song of new life in our land. Come, Holy Spirit of springtime!

Prayer: Father, send the Spirit to teach me to read the signs of the
times.

Promise: "Who can free me from this body under the power of death? All
praise to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!" —Rm 7:24-25

Praise: Like St. Francis, St. John was called by God to be a soldier for
Christ after serving in his country's military and after being held
prisoner of war.

Spiritual Awakening: The only thing that will save us

Source: J. Lee Grady - Charisma

We can learn an important lesson from the East African Revival, which
transformed a region 80 years ago. The people of Uganda call it Balokole. In
the Luganda language it means "the saved ones," but the word became
synonymous with the East African Revival-one of the most significant
Christian movements in modern history.

This revival had humble beginnings in September 1929, just before America's
Great Depression. Historians trace it to a prayer meeting on Namirembe Hill
in Kampala, Uganda, where a missionary to Rwanda, Joe Church, prayed and
read the Bible for two days with his friend Simeoni Nsibambi. They felt God
had showed them that the African church was powerless because of a lack of
personal holiness.

It is impossible to explain exactly what happened after this prayer meeting
or how the resulting spiritual fervor spread. When God comes, unusual things
happen. Within weeks after the Rev. Church returned to Gahini, Rwanda,
Christians gathered to pray and confess their sins openly. A heavy spirit of
conviction fell on the people. Whenever they repented for their sins and
failures they would weep uncontrollably, ask others to forgive them and
pledge to make restitution.

The weeping spread to farmlands and open fields. Unbelievers who visited
these gatherings were converted after they witnessed the sincerity of the
Christians. Repentance went deep. Husbands publicly apologized for adultery
and farmers repented for stealing cows from each other. Eventually, as the
revival spread from Rwanda to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi, even the
centuries-old tradition of polygamy (which was still common among professing
Christians) was unraveled in some areas.

Balokole changed African Christianity forever. In a 1986 article for
Christian History, Michael Harper writes of the revival: "It's effects have
been more lasting than almost any other revival in history, so that today
there is hardly a single Protestant leader in East Africa who has not been
touched by it in some way."

I spent the past two weeks ministering in Uganda and Kenya, and everywhere I
went I met people who still talk about the East African Revival-80 years
after it began. It breathed resurrection power into dead, traditional
churches and triggered aggressive church-planting movements that affected a
variety of denominations.

Whether sermons were delivered from pulpits or under trees, six important
themes were emphasized in those days: 1) the blood of Jesus; 2) the name of
Jesus; 3) the cross of Jesus; 4) the Word of God; 5) the testimony of the
saints; and 6) the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Leaders also stressed the message of 1 John 6-7: "If we say that we have
fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us
from all sin (NASB)." As was true in other spiritual awakenings in history
(such as the Asbury Revival in Kentucky in 1970), people stood in front of
each other and admitted their sins, no matter how embarrassing. The honesty
cut deep into human pride and dealt a fatal blow against entrenched sin and
religious hypocrisy.

After hearing more details about the East African Revival while I was in
Uganda last week, I was convinced that this type of movement is the only
thing that will pull the United States out of its current despair. We must
have a spiritual awakening, or we die. Political engineering, economic
policies, government bailouts and stimulus packages will not save us. No
politician, Democrat or Republican, will reverse our course toward
destruction.

Our only hope is that a backslidden American church-a church that is as
smug, blind and lukewarm as the Laodiceans--will "be zealous and repent"
(see Rev. 3:19).

What encourages me is that God, not man, initiated all the spiritual
awakenings of the past-including the First Great Awakening, which gave our
country its historic Christian identity. Yes, we play our feeble part by
praying, and we must storm heaven. Yes, awakenings come in response to our
weak attempts to repent, and we must passionately seek a fresh baptism of
holiness.

But we cannot manufacture revivals. Pentecostal fire comes from heaven
alone. It is a sovereign blessing from a God who loves us and desires to
rescue us from ourselves. We charismatics have generated a lot of our own
sound and fury in the past 30 years, but much of what we have created is a
shameful substitute for revival. We must become desperate for the real
thing.

Today our movement is mired in the shallow waters of self-centered, carnal
Christianity. May God mercifully send us our own version of Balokole. May
gut-wrenching repentance and public confession of sin interrupt our trendy
worship services. May this holy fire spread until the people of the United
States see genuine Christians living the message we preach.

YOU'RE FIRED

"I have come to light a fire on the earth." —Luke 12:49

I recently read a story about forest fires in the Western United States.
The cones of lodgepole pine trees won't drop their seeds unless an intense
fire burns beneath them. In a fire, accumulated litter on the forest floor
is burned off. Freed of the smothering litter and freed for new growth,
the cycle of new life can begin.

We are like that. We accumulate junk in our lives which smothers our
desire for the Lord. Jesus needs to burn away and divide us (Lk 12:51)
from possessions, complacency, confusion, strife, unforgiveness, the
desire for money, and all our sins, which suffocate our spirit. Then the
cycle of new, abundant life can begin in us (Jn 10:10). "Our God is a
consuming Fire" (Heb 12:29). "He will sit refining and purifying" us (Mal
3:3) until our faith shines brighter than pure gold (1 Pt 1:7). When the
Refiner's fire is hot enough, the dross in our lives, that is, our sins,
burns away.

Doctors and nurses put a needle into a hot flame to sterilize it. This
burns away germs which could bring infection and death. We cook food and
boil water over flame to kill organisms which would infect us. In the same
way, Doctor Jesus cannot tolerate the infection of sin which enslaves us
(Rm 6:16) and leads us to death (Rm 6:23). The fire of His love will not
allow Him to stand idly by while we poison ourselves with sin and
"litter." He has to ignite the blaze (Lk 12:49) and set our life on fire.

"Stir into flame the gift" of the Holy Spirit (2 Tm 1:6). Catch fire for
Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, may I burn for You now rather than forever in hell.

Promise: "Now that you are freed from sin and have become slaves of God,
your benefit is sanctification as you tend toward eternal life." —Rm 6:22

Praise: Andrew tells even strangers how Jesus saved him from drug
addiction.

TELLING THE FUTURE

"It will go well with those servants whom the master finds wide-awake on
his return." —Luke 12:37

The future of those who have given their lives to Jesus is fantastic.
"Despite the increase of sin, grace has far surpassed it" (Rm 5:20). God's
grace will be greater and greater as we draw closer to the world's end.

At the world's end, Jesus will come back. We who are ready for Him will
see Him face to face (1 Cor 13:12). Jesus, God Himself, the second Person
of the Trinity, will even put on an apron, seat us at table, and proceed
to wait on us (Lk 12:37).

With Jesus as our Waiter, we will celebrate eternally "the wedding feast
of the Lamb" (Rv 19:9). "Thenceforth we shall be with the Lord
unceasingly" (1 Thes 4:17). "God will wipe every tear" from our eyes (Rv
7:17). There will be no more dying or crying, suffering or pain, injustice
or oppression, hatred or war. We will live forever in perfect happiness
and peace.

This is the future of those who love the Lord with all their hearts.
Consequently, we can say with Paul: "I consider the sufferings of the
present to be as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us" (Rm
8:18). We have "a future full of hope" (Jer 29:11). Rejoice! Alleluia!

Prayer: Father, may I repeatedly smile and laugh when I think of my
future.

Promise: "Just as through one man's disobedience all became sinners, so
through one Man's obedience all shall become just." —Rm 5:19

Praise: St. Paul of the Cross saw his future in a vision. Then he worked
and prayed until it came to pass.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

"I will say to myself: 'You have blessings in reserve for years to come.
Relax!' " —Luke 12:19

The man in today's Gospel was already rich (Lk 12:16). He had several
grain bins on his property (Lk 12:18). It had been a year since his last
harvest, and still he had no room to store this year's harvest. Therefore,
his grain bins contained at least a year's foodstores in reserve. Then he
"had a good harvest" (Lk 12:16), so large he was bursting at the seams.
God blessed this man in ways foretold by the prophets (see Am 9:13-14; Is
30:23-25).

This man's speech reveals his heart (Lk 6:45). Though rich, he was worried
about his future. He could have thanked God for a bountiful harvest;
instead, he told himself he was finally financially secure enough to
"relax" (Lk 12:19). He could have shared his plenty with the hungry, thus
growing rich for God. Instead, he only thought of growing rich for himself
(Lk 12:21).

The man rejoiced most of all because he trusted in his reserves rather
than in God. When deciding how to handle his harvest, he consulted himself
rather than God. Now he would be self-sufficient, independent of a God he
never thanks or mentions. His actions and words show he does not trust the
very God Who continues to bless him so abundantly, Who cannot be outgiven,
and Who continues to provide for him. In His mercy, God reserved a place
for this man and all others who insist upon being independent of God "for
years to come" (Lk 12:19). It's called hell.

Some of us could fall into this "trap" of desiring to be secure for the
rest of our life (1 Tm 6:9). Repent! Trust in God alone.

Prayer: Father, I trust You alone for my daily needs (Mt 6:11). May I
never turn from You in times of prosperity (Prv 30:7-9).

Promise: "Our faith will be credited to us also if we believe in Him Who
raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." —Rm 4:24

Praise: Not even thirteen months of torture could shake St. Isaac's desire
to share Christ with the Iroquois.

PM eNewsletter 29th Sunday in ordinary time.

October 18th 29th Sunday in ordinary time.

Oh! Christ, always and everywhere, remind us through the
Holy Spirit to come and adore Your living presense in the
tabernacle.

Let us sit or kneel, and just adore, and thank You for Your
love for all of us.

Keep us from getting so busy in our daily life that we
forget that You, and You alone, are the way, the truth, and
the life.

Ask Your loving mother to come and adore with us, so
that we will stay focused on Your true presense.

Inspire us through this adoration to realize that all things
work to good for those who love You.

Give us the faith to always trust You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday SPEAKING OF LOVE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=10/18/2009

"Since, then, we have a great High Priest Who has passed
through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast
to our profession of faith." —Hebrews 4:14

Human beings have a tendency to tell others about those
they love. Parents like to show anyone pictures of their
children. Brides-to-be usually can't say a sentence without
speaking of their fiances. For us to tell others about Jesus,
we must simply come to love Him. When we realize He gave
up His life for us (Is 53:10; Mt 20:28), love wells up in our
hearts. When we believe He took on Himself all our sins
and guilt (Is 53:11), we're attracted to this Person Who
loves us more than we love ourselves.

Jesus has always been there for us, ready to forgive us
and "sympathize with our weakness" (Heb 4:15). Through
Him, we can "confidently approach the throne of grace
to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of
need" (Heb 4:16). Jesus is amazingly lovable. He is
perfect. He will never reject us (Jn 6:37). He has proven
His love. Never let a day go by without speaking to
someone of your love for Jesus.

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE CHURCH AND MISSION

"DEEPER AWARENESS"

I turn ... to you ... to encourage in each one of you a
deeper awareness of Christ's missionary mandate to
"make disciples of all peoples" (Mt 28:19) in the
footsteps of St. Paul.

"THE LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL"

The goal of the Church's mission is to illumine all
peoples with the light of the Gospel as they journey
through history towards God, so that in Him they
may reach their full potential and fulfillment.

"A PRIMARY AND UNAVOIDABLE DUTY"

Proclamation of the Gospel must be for all of us, as
it was for the Apostle Paul, a primary and unavoidable
duty.

"A LIFE OF FAITH" (Gal 2:20)

"Hence, all depends on faith, everything is grace." —Romans 4:16

All depends on faith — marriage, parenting, finances, health, education,
happiness, security, etc. Therefore, in every area of our lives, we should
seek opportunities to act in faith. We should not try to maintain the
status quo, but break new ground by acting in faith.

Would daily prayer with your spouse take faith? If so, do it. Would having
another child take faith? Whatever it takes, walk by faith (2 Cor 5:7).
Where are the faith opportunities in your life? Would it take more faith
to quit or continue your job? Would home-schooling your children take
faith? How much money would you need to give to God's work to be in a
position of faith? Are your insurance policies "crutches" limiting the
free exercise of your faith? Is your savings account preventing you from
believing in the Lord's promise to give us our daily bread? (Mt 6:11)

In our culture, we try to be in control and operate by faith as
infrequently as possible. Rather, we should maximize our faith
opportunities, seeking to walk by faith and not by sight.

Prayer: Jesus, may my life not be my own, but a life of faith in You, "Who
loved me" and gave Yourself for me (Gal 2:20).

Promise: "The Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment all that should be
said." —Lk 12:12

Praise: St. Ignatius was bishop of Antioch for forty years before finally
receiving the crown of martyrdom for which he had so longed.

"DO NOT LIVE IN FEAR" (Lk 12:32) - One Bread, One Body, 10/16/2009

WAIT! STOP! HOLD ON! and PRAY! Pray to the Holy Spirit before you read
His word today.

Come Holy Spirit. Fill the hearts of the faithful and enkindle in them the
fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and
you shall renew the face of the earth.

O Holy Spirit help me to understand the truth of your Word which I read
today. May I embrace it with an open heart and live it in holy boldness
as a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen.

"DO NOT LIVE IN FEAR" (Lk 12:32)

"A crowd of thousands had gathered, so dense that they were treading on
one another." —Luke 12:1

In the midst of a mob, Jesus told His friends: "Do not be afraid of those
who kill the body and can do no more" (Lk 12:4). Then He added: "Fear
nothing" (Lk 12:7). In the Bible, the Lord commands us three-hundred and
sixty-five times not to be afraid, but we feel afraid anyway. We can't
just turn fear off as if we had control of it. Rather, fear turns us off.
It seems bigger than we are. So how can we obey Jesus and never give in to
fear?

As little children, we overcame some fears by simply holding our parents'
hands. Even when our parents were not nearby, their assuring words often
kept us from yielding to fear. We overcome all fears in a similar way,
keeping our hands in the nail-scarred hand of Jesus. Although we walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil, for He is with
us (Ps 23:4). We fearlessly undertake the fearsome task of making
disciples of all nations because He promised to be with us always, even
"until the end of the world" (Mt 28:20).

"The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom should I fear? The Lord is my
life's Refuge; of whom should I be afraid?" (Ps 27:1) "Fear nothing, then"
(Lk 12:7).

Prayer: Father, because You have given me freedom from fear, may I do
something I've never done before.

Promise: "When a man does nothing, yet believes in Him Who justifies the
sinful, his faith is credited as justice." —Rm 4:5

Praise: St. Hedwig was fearless in accepting the abundant life Jesus
offered by serving as wife, mother, duchess, widow, nun, and foundress.

A professor and his students

Source: The Alternative - Josh McDowell

This is the true story of something that happened just a few years ago at
the University of Southern California. There was a professor of philosophy
there who was a deeply committed atheist.

His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester
attempting to prove that God couldn't exist. His students were always afraid
to argue with him because of his impeccable logic. For twenty years he had
taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him.

Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone
against him because of his reputation. At the end of every semester on the
last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone
here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!"

In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do
next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God
existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and
breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do
it."

And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the floor of the classroom and
it would shatter into a hundred pieces. All of the students would do nothing
but stop and stare. Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist.
Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but in twenty years,
they had been too afraid to stand.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enrol. He was a
Christian, and had heard the stories about this professor. He was required
to take this class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months
that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to
stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought.
Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith, he hoped.

Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who
still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class looked at him,
shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom. The professor shouted,
"You FOOL!! If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking
when it hit the ground."

He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his
fingers, off his shirt cuff and into the pleat of his pants, down his leg
and of his shoe. As it hit the ground it simply rolled away unbroken. The
professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young
man, and then ran out of the lecture hall.

The young man who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and
shared his faith in Jesus. For the next half an hour, 300 students stayed
and listened as he told of God's love for them and His power through Jesus.
