CALL WAITING? - One Bread, One Body, 11/30/2019

CALL WAITING?

Jesus "watched two brothers, Simon now known as Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea. They were fishermen. He said to them, 'Come after Me and I will make you fishers of men.' " -Matthew 4:18-19

In the Greek Church, St. Andrew is revered as the "Protoclete," that is, the "first called" (see Jn 1:40). Andrew should also be revered as the "first who called," for, after being called by Jesus, "the first thing he did was seek out his brother Simon and tell him, 'We have found the Messiah!' " (Jn 1:41) We need to imitate Andrew. We, called by God, need to be calling to God all those the Lord has put in our lives.

Jesus said to His disciples: "It was not you who chose Me, it was I Who chose you to go forth and bear fruit" (Jn 15:16). We have been chosen and called to bear abundant (Jn 15:5), lasting (Jn 15:16) fruit. We are called to lead as many people as possible (1 Cor 9:19) to a total, deep, permanent commitment to Christ. Like Andrew, we are called to be missionaries and martyrs so as to lead the nations to Christ (see Jn 12:21-22). We are called to call.

Let us ask the Lord for the grace to live lives worthy of our calling (Eph 4:1).

Prayer: Father, may I live my vocations, that is, my callings, to the full.

Promise: Jesus "said to them, 'Come after Me and I will make you fishers of men.' " -Mt 4:19

Praise: "The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb" (Rv 21:14).

THE MONSTER MASH - One Bread, One Body, 11/29/2019

Friday, November 29, 2019

Daniel 7:2-14, Daniel 3:75-81, Luke 21:29-33

THE MONSTER MASH

"In the vision I saw during the night, suddenly the four winds of heaven stirred up the great sea, from which emerged four immense beasts, each different from the others." -Daniel 7:2-3

Daniel must have been afraid to go to sleep, considering the terrifying visions he had. He witnessed hundreds of years of history represented by four monsters. The first one was like a lion standing upright and having a human mind and eagle's wings that were to be plucked (Dn 7:4). The second beast was like a bear with three tusks used to devour much flesh (Dn 7:5). The third beast was like a leopard with four wings and four heads (Dn 7:6). The last beast wasn't like anything. The "thing" had "great iron teeth" and ten horns (Dn 7:7-8). Suddenly, in the vision, a little horn with two eyes popped up on the "thing" and started to talk (Dn 7:8).

These monsters represent the Babylonians, Persians, Medes, and Seleucids. These dynasties in turn represent the monstrous atrocities and perversions of all human governments and history. By sin, we human beings have made life inhuman.

At the end of the vision, Daniel saw "One like a Son of Man" (Dn 7:13), that is, Jesus. He was fully human and victorious over the monsters. "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, His kingship shall not be destroyed" (Dn 7:14). Accept Jesus as Lord of your life and be delivered from the inhuman slavery of the devil.

Prayer: Jesus, God-Man, thank You for conquering the dragon and his monsters (Rv 12:7-9).

Promise: "The heavens and the earth will pass away, but My words will not pass." -Lk 21:33

Praise: Jesus delivered John from an addiction to pornography.

EATING DISORDERS - One Bread, One Body, 11/28/2019

Thursday, November 28, 2019

Daniel 6:12-28, Daniel 3:68-74, Luke 21:20-28

EATING DISORDERS

"The king...refused to eat." -Daniel 6:19

On this Thanksgiving Day in the USA, a day of great feasting, the Church reads to us about not eating. King Darius couldn't eat out of concern for the doomed Daniel (Dn 6:19). The hungry lions couldn't eat, since God was protecting Daniel (Dn 6:23).

This physical inability to eat has its counterpart in the spiritual life. Spiritually anorexic people won't eat the spiritual food they need. They have so stuffed themselves with the things of the world (Phil 3:19) that they fail to realize that their souls are starving to death for lack of nourishment (see Prv 13:19).

To remedy our eating disorders, God gives us the Eucharist, Food from heaven (Jn 6:31-32, 35). The word Eucharist means "thanksgiving." In the Eucharist, the Body of Christ, God connects giving thanks and eating. This is why for centuries Christians have given thanks to God before meals.

Many of you are eating a big meal today. Hopefully, that meal will include heartfelt public thanks to God for all His blessings. As good as such a meal is, the ultimate Thanksgiving meal is the Mass, and the ultimate "thanksgiving" meal is the Eucharist (see Jn 6:11). Food and thanksgiving go together to such an extent that God combined them in the Eucharistic Body of Jesus. Happy are they who eat thankfully at the banquet of the Lamb (Rv 19:9).

Prayer: "I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all my heart" (Ps 138:1) by frequently receiving You at Mass (Ps 116:12-13).

Promise: "When these things begin to happen, stand erect and hold your heads high, for your deliverance is near at hand." -Lk 21:28

Praise: Since her healing of cancer, Georgia gives God thanks for every new day.

"LAST SUPPER" - One Bread, One Body, 11/27/2019

Wednesday, November 27, 2019

Daniel 5:1-6, 13-14, 16-17, 23-28, Daniel 3:62-67, Luke 21:12-19

"LAST SUPPER"

"King Belshazzar gave a great banquet." -Daniel 5:1

King Belshazzar gave a last supper for his friends (Dn 5:1). This banquet featured revelry, blasphemy, idolatry (Dn 5:4), insolence, pride (Dn 5:20), terror (Dn 5:9), betrayal (Dn 5:30), and finally, the death of the host (Dn 5:30).

King Jesus also gave a Last Supper for His friends (Lk 22:8ff). Like Belshazzar's banquet, this last supper also featured betrayal (Lk 22:21) and the death of the Host (Mt 26:31ff). However, Jesus' Last Supper featured selfless love (Lk 22:15), humble service (Jn 13:4ff), the Bread of Life, a new covenant in Jesus' blood (Lk 22:17-20), and praise of God (Mt 26:30).

Many of you in the USA will take part in a "great banquet" tomorrow at your Thanksgiving dinner. Like Belshazzar's last supper, some of these banquets may feature drunkenness, betrayal, pride, and even blasphemy. You may be ridiculed by members of your family (Lk 21:16), and even put "to trial" in some family conversations (Lk 21:12). Jesus, the Lord of banquets, says: "I bid you resolve not to worry about your defense beforehand, for I will give you words and a wisdom which none of your adversaries can take exception to or contradict" (Lk 21:14-15).

Prepare for tomorrow's banquet with today's Last Supper. Go to Mass today, tomorrow, and every day if possible. Receive the Eucharist, a word meaning "thanksgiving." Then your "Thanksgiving" dinner will be like Jesus' Last Supper, not Belshazzar's.

Prayer: Father, may I be worthy of persecution for Your name (Mt 5:11-12).

Promise: "By patient endurance you will save your lives." -Lk 21:19

Praise: Theresa has been a daily Communicant for more than ten years.

HEAR GOD OR DIE?

"This was the dream; the interpretation we shall also give in the king's presence." -Daniel 2:36

King Nebuchadnezzar had a nightmare. He had to find out what it meant. He thought the wise men of his kingdom might be able to interpret the nightmare, but he questioned their credibility. So, instead of telling them the nightmare to be interpreted, he demanded that they additionally read his mind and disclose his dream. He even ordered that the wise men be put to death when they couldn't tell him his dream. Then Daniel was brought in. Daniel would either discover the nightmare by listening to the Lord or be executed with the other wise men. He heard God, discovered and interpreted the dream, and saved many lives.

At first, most of us don't think we are "on the spot" as was Daniel. We don't see our situation as: "Hear God or die." Nevertheless, we may be in a situation where we either hear God or see the continuing deaths of millions of babies in the womb. We either hear God or see the deaths of countless marriages and families. We either hear God or continue to be victimized by the culture of death in so many ways. We may be more desperately in need of hearing God than we think.

When we were baptized, the priest touched our ears and prayed with Jesus, "Ephphatha" (see Mk 7:34). Because of our new, baptized life, we can hear God. Therefore, let us restructure our lives to maximize our hearing of God. Let us center our lives on the Mass and on the daily reading of the Scriptures. Let us live in practical Christian community, go to Confession at least monthly, simplify our lives, and build into our lives each day a time of silence. We can hear God. We must hear God.

Prayer: Father, open my ears so as to save many lives.

Promise: "Take care not to be misled. Many will come in My name saying, 'I am He' and 'The time is at hand.' " -Lk 21:8

Praise: A nearly fatal accident induced David to radically change his lifestyle.

TRUE PEACE FOREVER - One Bread, One Body, 11/21/2019

TRUE PEACE FOREVER

"Coming within sight of the city, [Jesus] wept over it and said: 'If only you had known the path to peace this day; but you have completely lost it from view!' " -Luke 19:41-42

Jesus wept over Jerusalem because it had not known "the path to peace" (Lk 19:42) and would be destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. Because Jesus "is our Peace" (Eph 2:14), not to know the path to peace is to not know Jesus. Jerusalem was destroyed because it failed to recognize the time of Jesus' visitation (Lk 19:44). We likewise will be at peace or be destroyed - depending on whether we recognize Jesus as Lord, Savior, and God.

Jesus is a Sign of contradiction (Lk 2:34) and a stumbling Stone (1 Pt 2:8). If we accept Jesus on His terms, we will live the abundant life (Jn 10:10) of love and enter into the perfect peace of eternal life. But if we do not accept Jesus, we will not only be destroyed but damned forever (see Jn 3:18).

Consequently, let us accept Jesus as our Peace, Lord, Savior, and God. Let us not stumble over the cross but recognize it as the hope of the world, for Jesus makes "peace through the blood of His cross" (Col 1:20). Let us tell as many people as possible that the crucified Jesus is our only Peace. In this way, we will be peacemakers in the greatest way (Mt 5:9).

Peace to you. Peace in Christ, our Peace.

Prayer: Father, make me like Jesus so that I am willing to die for peace.

Promise: "Many who sought to live according to righteousness and religious custom went out into the desert to settle there." -1 Mc 2:29

Praise: Sts. Ann and Joachim believed that God would work His plan through their daughter. They expressed this belief by presenting Mary, Our Lady of Presentation, to be raised in the Temple at the age of three.

PM eNewsletter 33rd Sunday in ordinary time

November 17th 33rd Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the "Presentation of Mary".

Let us see in this feast that Your plan of our redemption was unfolding in a very simple yet concise way.

Mary, our mother, the "new ark of the covenant" was brought to God so as to be sealed in His love.

Mary, our mother, was always and still is, full of grace, and her intercession is very powerful, for all
of us.

We have a loving, caring mother who loves us and prays for us all.

Jesus, give us the grace to realize Your love, and the means we can use to get the help we need to reach
Your kingdom in heaven, some day, thank You Jesus.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE END ZONE
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/17/2019

"These things you are contemplating - the day will come when not one stone will be left on another, but it
will all be torn down." -Luke 21:6

Jesus combined predicting the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. with predicting the end of the world. He did this
because there will be marked similarities between the two catastrophes. Also, Jesus' accuracy regarding the
fall of Jerusalem indicates the credibility of His revelations regarding the end of the world.

Jesus revealed many more details regarding the end of the world than He revealed about most other aspects of
His plan. He did this to underline the fact that the end of the world is literally true and to help us
prepare for it. Jesus gave us the details because we need them.

One of the most important details Jesus gave about the end of the world is: "By patient endurance you will
save your lives" (Lk 21:19). We can persevere through the most savage persecution of the Church ever
(see Lk 21:12), through the worst apostasy ever (2 Thes 2:3-12), and through the worst tribulation ever
(Mk 13:19) because we have accepted the grace not to be proud but to fear the name of the Lord (Mal 3:19-20).
This humble fear of the Lord is the beginning of love (see Dt 6:2-5). "Love covers a multitude of sins"
(1 Pt 4:8) and leads us through the calamities of the end of the world into perfect, everlasting love in
heaven.

The world will certainly end, as Jesus said. Learn what Jesus has revealed about it. Live and persevere in
love so as to live forever with the Lord.

Prayer: Father, I want to be ready always.

Promise: "But for you who fear My name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays."
-Mal 3:20

Praise: "You put to death the Author of life. But God raised him from the dead, and we are his witnesses"
(Acts 3:15). Praise the risen Jesus!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

END HUNGER

"WE MUST DO BETTER"

We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to concrete
action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.

WE CAN DO IT

We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become an
action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this end we
need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the other's
problems one's own.

"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"

There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and this
ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all religious
persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and consists in
"doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."

THE END ZONE

"These things you are contemplating - the day will come when not one stone will be left on another, but it will all be torn down." -Luke 21:6

Jesus combined predicting the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. with predicting the end of the world. He did this because there will be marked similarities between the two catastrophes. Also, Jesus' accuracy regarding the fall of Jerusalem indicates the credibility of His revelations regarding the end of the world.

Jesus revealed many more details regarding the end of the world than He revealed about most other aspects of His plan. He did this to underline the fact that the end of the world is literally true and to help us prepare for it. Jesus gave us the details because we need them.

One of the most important details Jesus gave about the end of the world is: "By patient endurance you will save your lives" (Lk 21:19). We can persevere through the most savage persecution of the Church ever (see Lk 21:12), through the worst apostasy ever (2 Thes 2:3-12), and through the worst tribulation ever (Mk 13:19) because we have accepted the grace not to be proud but to fear the name of the Lord (Mal 3:19-20). This humble fear of the Lord is the beginning of love (see Dt 6:2-5). "Love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Pt 4:8) and leads us through the calamities of the end of the world into perfect, everlasting love in heaven.

The world will certainly end, as Jesus said. Learn what Jesus has revealed about it. Live and persevere in love so as to live forever with the Lord.

Prayer: Father, I want to be ready always.

Promise: "But for you who fear My name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays." -Mal 3:20

Praise: "You put to death the Author of life. But God raised him from the dead, and we are his witnesses" (Acts 3:15). Praise the risen Jesus!

PRAY ALWAYS, OR ELSE - One Bread, One Body, 11/16/2019

Saturday, November 16, 2019, St. Margaret of Scotland, St. Gertrude the Great

Wisdom 18:14-16; 19:6-9, Psalm 105:2-3, 36-37, 42-43, Luke 18:1-8
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111619.cfm

PRAY ALWAYS, OR ELSE

Jesus "told them a parable on the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." -Luke 18:1

A necessity is something that we must have or do. Otherwise, we will suffer dire consequences, even death. For example, food is a necessity. If we don't have it, we die. Jesus teaches that it is a necessity not only to pray but to pray always (Lk 18:1; 1 Thes 5:17). Otherwise, we will suffer dire consequences.

How can we pray always and thereby not put our lives in jeopardy? The Spirit "helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought" (Rm 8:26). The Spirit changes the necessity of praying always from an impossible burden to a privilege and a constant miracle. To pray always is to do God's will constantly because we are always aware of His presence. To pray always is to abide in love and abide in God (1 Jn 4:16). To pray always is to share in heaven.

Ask Jesus to teach you to pray always (see Lk 11:1). In answer to your prayer, God the Father through Jesus will send the Holy Spirit to help you pray always. You will enter into the mystery of Trinitarian love. Pray always.

Prayer: Father, may I pray in joyful thanksgiving for the constant privilege of praying always.

Promise: "When peaceful stillness compassed everything and the night in its swift course was half spent, your all-powerful Word from heaven's royal throne bounded, a fierce Warrior." -Wis 18:14-15

Praise: St. Margaret brought Christianity to Scotland by her example to her husband.

THE WORST SURPRISE - One Bread, One Body, 11/15/2019

Friday, November 15, 2019, St. Albert the Great

Wisdom 13:1-9, Psalm 19:2-5, Luke 17:26-37
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111519.cfm

THE WORST SURPRISE

"It was much the same in the days of Lot; they ate and drank, they bought and sold, they built and planted. But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed." -Luke 17:28-30

Jesus' second coming and the end of the world through fire is certain. However, the exact time of these events is uncertain. Jesus said that no one knows the day or the hour (Mk 13:32; Mt 25:13).

Nonetheless, Jesus has revealed to us in the Scriptures many of the happenings which will precede the day of the Lord. He has done this so that we can approximate His final coming and the end of the world. This helps us be better prepared and to help others be prepared.

However, Jesus has revealed in the Scriptures that many people will disregard or be ignorant of the Scriptural revelation about the end of the world. Thus, they will be clueless on the final day even though the magnitude and speed of the world's destruction makes foreknowledge of the event even more critical. It will be "business as usual" up to the very end, as was the case before Noah's flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Lk 17:26ff). Those people well on their way to hell will be surprised at the world's end. That's why Jesus revealed so much about the end - to keep us from being surprised by the greatest catastrophe in history.

Don't repeat the mistakes of the past. "Search the Scriptures" (Jn 5:39). Get ready for the great and terrible day. Come, Lord Jesus! (Rv 22:20)

Prayer: Father, I want to be ready and help as many as possible to also be ready.

Promise: "Whoever tries to preserve his life will lose it; whoever loses it will keep it." -Lk 17:33

Praise: St. Albert had a profound impact on his student, St. Thomas Aquinas. Albert laid the groundwork for Thomas' synthesis of Greek wisdom and Christian theology.

CONFIRMED IN WISDOM - One Bread, One Body, 11/14/2019

Thursday, November 14, 2019

Wisdom 7:22-8:1, Psalm 119:89-91, 130, 135, 175, Luke 17:20-25
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111419.cfm

CONFIRMED IN WISDOM

Wisdom "is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty." -Wisdom 7:25

When you were confirmed in the Holy Spirit, the bishop or his delegate prayed for you to receive the gift of wisdom (see Is 11:2). As Confirmation is vitally important, so the confirmational gift of wisdom is very important.

Wisdom is "the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of His goodness" (Wis 7:26). Wisdom "produces friends of God and prophets" (Wis 7:27). Wisdom "is fairer than the sun and surpasses every constellation of the stars. Compared to light, she takes precedence" (Wis 7:29). Wisdom is "the attendant" at God's throne (Wis 9:4). Wisdom speaks of herself: "The Lord begot me, the firstborn of His ways, the forerunner of His prodigies of long ago" (Prv 8:22). Wisdom also says: "Then was I beside [God] as His craftsman, and I was His delight day by day, playing before Him all the while, playing on the surface of His earth; and I found delight in the sons of men" (Prv 8:30-31). Ultimately, Jesus is our Wisdom (1 Cor 1:30).

Consequently,

* "Get wisdom, get understanding" (Prv 4:5).
* Pray daily with faith for greater wisdom (Jas 1:5-6).
* If you see a wise man, "seek him out; let your feet wear away his doorstep!" (Sir 6:36)

Grow daily in your confirmational gift of wisdom.

Prayer: Father, make me wise as a snake and as innocent as a dove (Mt 10:16).

Promise: "The reign of God is already in your midst." -Lk 17:21

Praise: Timothy lives by the simple motto - "when he has enough, he has enough." All else is frivolous and can be given to the poor.

THE DEGREES OF THANKSGIVING - One Bread, One Body, 11/13/2019

Wednesday, November 13, 2019, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini

Wisdom 6:2-11, Psalm 82:3-4, 6-7, Luke 17:11-19
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111319.cfm

THE DEGREES OF THANKSGIVING

"He threw himself on his face at the feet of Jesus and spoke His praises." -Luke 17:16

We start off in life thanking others in order to be polite. Then we thank others, even God, in order to be just. We say such things as: "At least you can say 'Thanks.' " Then the Lord calls us to thank God by faith rather than by sight (2 Cor 5:7) - to thank God when we don't see a reason to thank Him. Then the Lord calls us to live lives of such profound and constant thanksgiving that our thanksgiving is an act of faith by which we accept salvation (see Lk 17:19).

For Christians, thanksgiving is not just a day, or even many actions; it is the atmosphere in which we live, the very fabric of the Christian life. Because God became a human being, died on the cross for us, and rose from the dead for us, we have reasons to be thankful which will always take precedence over even the worst circumstances. Thus, we should give "thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Eph 5:20). We should never stop thanking God - to the point that we thank our way right through death and enter the courts of heaven with thanksgiving (Ps 100:4). There we will prostrate ourselves before God's throne, worship Him forever, and exclaim: "Amen. Praise and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving...to our God forever and ever. Amen!" (Rv 7:12)

Today, let us accept God's grace to move our thanksgiving up a notch. Then let us keep increasing our thanksgiving to the Lord to the point that we will thank our way into the heaven of eternal thanksgiving.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to teach me new dimensions of thanksgiving.

Promise: "Authority was given you by the Lord and sovereignty by the Most High, Who shall probe your works and scrutinize your counsels!" -Wis 6:3

Praise: Mother Cabrini, the first canonized U.S. citizen, founded 67 institutions to care for the sick, poor, and abandoned.

Tuesday, November 12, 2019, St. Josaphat

Wisdom 2:23-3:9, Psalm 34:2-3, 16-19, Luke 17:7-10
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111219.cfm

JESUS: THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN

"They are in peace." -Wisdom 3:3

After their deaths, the souls of some people "are in the hand of God" (Wis 3:1). These people are "the just" (Wis 3:1), "those who trust" in the Lord (Wis 3:9), "the faithful" (Wis 3:9), the "holy ones" (Wis 3:9), and the "elect" (Wis 3:9).

To be just is to avoid sin and to repair the devastating effects of sin. This is, of course, impossible except in Jesus, our Justice (see Jer 23:6; 1 Cor 1:30).

To trust in the Lord means to trust the Lord completely, to love Him with all our hearts and souls (see Mk 12:30), and to live for Him alone.

To be faithful means to do what we have promised, especially our baptismal promises. In effect, it means to not sin.

To be holy means to be like God in every aspect of our conduct (1 Pt 1:15). We need Jesus to baptize us in the Spirit of holiness in order to be holy (see Mk 1:8).

Jesus is also the One to elect us, that is, choose us. He said: "It was not you who chose Me, it was I Who chose you" (Jn 15:16).

Jesus is the only Way to heaven (see Jn 14:6). Only if we live and die in Jesus will we live forever. Give your life and death totally to Jesus.

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, in Jesus I will be with You forever.

Promise: "Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of Himself." -Wis 3:5

Praise: St. Josaphat and his parents reunited with the Catholic Church when he was fifteen. He then spent his life trying to achieve unity in the Church.

(To be holier, learn more about the Bible. You may wish to order, listen to, or download our "Overview of the Bible" with our CD 10 A-1, CD 10 A-3, CD 10 B-1, CD 10 B-3, CD 10 C-1, CD 10 C-3, or DVD 10 A, DVD 10 B, and DVD 10 C on our website.)

THE EUCHARIST, FOOD OF WISDOM - One Bread, One Body, 11/11/2019

Monday, November 11, 2019, St. Martin of Tours

Wisdom 1:1-7, Psalm 139:1-10, Luke 17:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111119.cfm

THE EUCHARIST, FOOD OF WISDOM

"He manifests Himself to those who do not disbelieve Him." -Wisdom 1:2

As I read the above passage, I felt goose bumps form on my body. Today Almighty God manifested Himself to me in His Eucharistic presence (see Wis 1:2). I rejoiced to receive Him in Holy Communion at Mass. Jesus, Wisdom Incarnate (1 Cor 1:30), bounded out of heaven (Wis 18:15; Jn 6:33) to fill me with the Food of Wisdom.

People spend years obtaining knowledge through education and training. Yet we Catholics have been given the Bread of Wisdom, and can receive this Bread daily! Oh, that we would "seek Him" (Wis 1:1) with more fervor than the worldly seek knowledge! (cf Lk 16:8)

We live in an age of information and knowledge. Yet do we live in an age of wisdom? As St. Paul observed, " 'knowledge' inflates," and can lead us to pride, but "love upbuilds" (1 Cor 8:1). Wisdom without love is nothing; real wisdom must lead to love (1 Cor 13:2).

Jesus, "the Bread of Life" (Jn 6:35), is "Wisdom" (1 Cor 1:30). Attend Mass daily, or as often as possible. Receive the eucharistic Jesus, Wisdom Incarnate, and "get wisdom!" (Prv 4:5)

Prayer: Lord, "increase our faith" (Lk 17:5).

Promise: "The Holy Spirit of discipline flees deceit and withdraws from senseless counsels." -Wis 1:5

Praise: St. Martin worked tirelessly to convert the pagan countryside and fight Arianism, an insidious fourth century heresy.

PM eNewsletter 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

November 10th 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

Oh! Christ, sometimes we get so busy in life that we forget to pray unless there is an emergency.

Please Lord, give us the grace to set aside a time everday to go to our prayer room and give You praise
and glory.

Let us be intercessors for others, and realize all the good we could do for them, through You, by our
prayers.

Let us see that all people are our brothers and sisters, and that we have an obligation to pray for them.

Let us also pray the news so that those who do harm to others will be saved through our intercessions
and Your love.

Thank You, Jesus, for making us part of Your glorious plan.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday FAMILY PRAYER
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/10/2019

"It also happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested and tortured with whips and scourges
by the king." -2 Maccabees 7:1

This nameless Old Testament family prefigures the Christian family. How holy, fearless, and faithful a
Christian family can be when united with the Lord and one another and deeply grounded in faith in Jesus'
Resurrection and our resurrection from the dead! This family loved God and each other so much that all seven
brothers with their mother suffered mutilation, torture, and execution so as to be faithful to the Lord.
This was a family of eight saints, all martyred.

In the new covenant, we have even greater graces to have the holiest families. "That is why I kneel before
the Father from Whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name; and I pray that He will bestow on
you gifts in keeping with the riches of His glory" (Eph 3:14-16). "May He strengthen you inwardly through
the working of His Spirit" (Eph 3:16). "May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith" (Eph 3:17). "May
charity be the root and foundation of your life. Thus you will be able to grasp fully, with all the holy
ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love" (Eph 3:17-18).

Because the Lord has revealed this family prayer to us, He will certainly answer it. By His grace, your
family can enter into unimaginable realms of holiness and ultimately have a family reunion in heaven without
any member missing. Through daily recitation of the above family prayer, accept the grace to be a holy family.

Prayer: Lord, direct our "hearts in the love of God and the constancy of Christ" (2 Thes 3:5).

Promise: "The Lord keeps faith; He it is Who will strengthen you and guard you against the evil one."
-2 Thes 3:3

Praise: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory
and praise" (Rv 5:12).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

END HUNGER

THE CHURCH AND THE POOR

For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple ways and
through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from misery are not
different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand to help and support
them, in such a way that no one is left behind, so that in our world fraternal solidarity may boast its
own identity card and citizenship, beyond any flashy slogans void of substance.

"HOPES OF MILLIONS"

The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions of
persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of that great
number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the opposite and yet
recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to be cooling.

"EFFECTIVE HELP"

The poor expect from us an effective help that takes them out of their misery... In this twenty-first
century that has seen considerable advances in the field of technology, science, communications and
infrastructure, we ought to feel shame for not having achieved the same advances in humanity and
solidarity, and so satisfy the primary needs of the most disadvantaged.

"VIVA IL PAPA" - One Bread, One Body, 11/9/2019

Saturday, November 9, 2019, Dedication of the Basilica, of St. John Lateran

Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12, 1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17, Psalm 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9, John 2:13-22

"VIVA IL PAPA"

"Zeal for Your house consumes Me." -John 2:17

Today we celebrate the anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral Church of the Pope. Why do we celebrate our unity with the Pope and his church? It is because our unity with the Pope gives us strength and power. Those united to the Pope have an anointing from God that cannot be obtained any other way. Furthermore, our unity with the Pope protects us from deception and confusion.

This will become even more significant as we near the mass apostasy at the end of the world (2 Thes 2:3). In His love, the Lord has not only given us brothers and sisters, but also a spiritual father, the Pope, who helps us grow together and stay together as God's family. The Pope is a special gift from the Lord to us, His Church. We rejoice in this gift. We thank the Lord for the opportunity to submit ourselves to Him by obeying the leaders He sends into our lives, especially the Pope (see Heb 13:17). We thank the Lord for our Pope today. He has spent and risked his life for the Lord and for us. We will pray for him daily and obey him.

Prayer: Father, thank You for each part of the body of Christ, especially for our Pope.

Promise: "The temple of God is holy, and you are that temple." -1 Corinthians 3:17

Praise: The glorious Basilica of St. John Lateran elevates the faithful worshipper to focus "on what pertains to higher realms where Christ is seated at God's right hand" (Col 3:1). Representing all the churches, St. John Lateran testifies to God's promise to be with us always.
