"BAD TO THE BONE"
"Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail." —Amos 5:15

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil” (Is 5:20). The Lord wants us to “hate evil,” not to rename it by a more acceptable name (Am 5:15). The culture of death specializes in “spin” control, using smooth words to rename actions which are blatantly and objectively evil in the sight of God. Just because our society regards acts as acceptable and commonplace does not mean God no longer regards them as evil and wrong. Some examples of this are:
• We have a legal right to abort a “fetus.” God considers this evil the murder of a living child (see Ex 20:13).
• Those who support the evil of abortion are called by the supposedly “good” name of pro-choice.
• Homosexual acts are consistently presented in the Bible as abhorrent to the Lord (see Lv 18:22; Rm 1:24-32). Yet if anyone speaks this truth in public, he or she is instantly vilified as “homophobic.”  In truth, it is evil and intolerant to disregard and shout down God’s good standards.
• Some corporations exploit the poor and uneducated, conscripting them to work for low wages in subhuman conditions. This injustice is called by the “good” names of maximizing profits and increasing shareholder value.
These are but a few examples of how our society warps God’s good and holy commands and twists them to appear restrictive, intolerant, and even evil. There can be only one future for “those who call evil good, and good evil,” and that is eternal woe (Is 5:20). Repent! “Make no mistake about it, no one makes a fool of God!” (Gal 6:7) “Seek good and not evil, that you may live” (Am 5:14).

Prayer: Jesus, give me Your mind (1 Cor 2:16) and standards.

Promise: "Let justice surge like water, and goodness like an unfailing stream." —Am 5:24

Praise: St. Junipero founded nine missions in California.

I TOLD YOU SO
"Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants, the prophets." —Amos 3:7

Every good and bad thing that has ever happened God told us about ahead of time (Am 3:7). Yet we were surprised by world wars, the Third Reich, abortion, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and so many other catastrophes. We refused to listen to the prophets that the Father in His loving mercy sent “early and often” to warn us of evil (2 Chr 36:15). Usually prophets tell us to repent before it’s too late. Nonetheless, we refuse to return to Him, so we are dealt with accordingly (Am 4:11-12).
Right now, the storms of next month and next year are brewing. The prophets are warning us. “Let him who has ears heed the Spirit’s word to the churches!” (Rv 2:7) God does not want to surprise us, but to prepare us. However, if we insist on being deafened by the world and blinded by sin, we doom ourselves to devastating surprises.
Let’s repent of living independently of God’s warnings and declare our total dependence upon the Lord. Let’s turn to the Lord now, before the catastrophe rather than afterward. If we had only listened to God, how many soldiers, Jews, babies, and innocent people would have been spared the bloodbath of our time. Jesus says: “If only you had known the path to peace this day; but you have completely lost it from view!” (Lk 19:42)

Prayer: Jesus, I repent of stifling the Spirit and despising prophecy by ignoring it (1 Thes 5:19-20).

Promise: "Then He stood up and took the winds and the sea to task. Complete calm ensued; the men were dumbfounded."

Praise: In 64 AD, the Great Fire of Rome devastated the city. Emperor Nero, truly a villain of antiquity, blamed the fledgling Christian Church. The First Martyrs of Rome paid the ultimate price, but held firm in the faith as an example for all Christians to come.

THE GRACE TO BE HEROIC
"No mere man has revealed this to you, but My heavenly Father." —Matthew 16:17

The early Church was a Church of martyrs. Peter, Paul, James (Acts 12:2), Stephen (Acts 7:58ff), and so many famous and nameless others gave their lives for love of Jesus. Why did they love Jesus so much? It was not because they were so great but because of God’s great grace (Eph 2:8-9).
We all are inadequate to live the heroism of life in Christ, but God’s grace is sufficient to make His power perfect in us in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9). “Despite the increase of sin, grace has far surpassed it, so that, as sin reigned through death, grace may reign by way of justice leading to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rm 5:20-21). We are privileged to live in the reign of grace.
However, some graces are not given to us whether we like it or not. We must decide to accept grace by faith (see Eph 2:8) and works in obedience to the Lord (see Rm 1:5; Jas 2:26). As St. Augustine said, there is grace even in deciding to accept grace. Thus, our lives in Christ are surrounded by grace.
Paul often began his letters by wishing his readers “grace and peace.” If we decide to live in grace, we will be like Sts. Peter and Paul. The love from grace will lead us to become heroic missionaries and martyrs, holy, selfless, and victorious children of God. Grace to you.

Prayer: Father, I choose the life of grace rather than a life of mediocrity.

Promise: "Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel to rescue me." —Acts 12:11

Praise: "Consider that our Lord's patience is directed toward salvation. Paul, our beloved brother, wrote you this in the spirit of wisdom that is his" (2 Pt 3:15). Sts. Peter & Paul, pray for us!

PM eNewsletter 13th Sunday in ordinary time

June 29th, 13th Sunday Ordinary Time

This week we celebrate the apostles, Peter and Paul.

Lord, your Church was started by You, and Your making St. Peter the rock, and the leader of the apostles.

You also brought us the gentiles into Your church through the preaching and teachings of St. Paul.

Jesus, give us this apostolic ferver to truly focus on You as the most important person in our lives.

Let us truly make our lives revolve around You.

Let us realize that if we don't have You first in our lives, all the cares and problems of living will
eventually drag us down, and put us into depression and anxiety.

You, oh! Jesus, are the way, the truth and the life, let that fact cause us to be Christed in all of our
ways, and trusting You, and You alone, to bring all things to good.

Let us be light to this darkened world.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE SUPREME LOVE
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-6-28-en

"Whoever loves father or mother, son or daughter, more than Me is not worthy of Me." -Matthew 10:37

The Church proclaims "the supremacy of the bond with Christ" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1619). Our
relationship with Jesus is in a class by itself. We are called to love Jesus much more than we love anyone
else (see Mt 10:37). We must love Jesus so much that we lose our worldly lives, give our lives to Him,
suffer in love for Him, take up our crosses daily in imitation of Him, and even die for Him
(see Mt 10:37-38).

Because of the supremacy of our relationship with Jesus, those things we "used to consider gain" we "have
now reappraised as loss" (Phil 3:7). We "have come to rate all as loss in the light of the surpassing
knowledge of [our] Lord Jesus Christ" (Phil 3:8). For love of Jesus, we have "forfeited everything" and
"have accounted all else rubbish so that Christ may be" our Wealth (Phil 3:8).

Because of the supremacy of the relationship with the Lord, each Christian is privileged to say: "I have
been crucified with Christ, and the life I live now is not my own; Christ is living in me. I still live my
human life, but it is a life of faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me" (Gal 2:19-20).
We are supremely honored and loved in having the opportunity to "live no longer" for ourselves but for Him
Who for our sakes "died and was raised up" (2 Cor 5:15).

Accept the invitation of the crucified and glorified Christ. Give your life totally to Him. Love Jesus
supremely.

Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, as this month of the Sacred Heart ends, I consecrate my life to You. I am
all Yours.

Promise: "The favors of the Lord I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim Your
faithfulness." -Ps 89:2

Praise: Praise You, Jesus! You are "the Beginning, the First-Born of the dead" (see Col 1:18). Your
Resurrection gives us hope.

THE SUPREME LOVE

ROAD-KILL?
"The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it." —Matthew 7:13

If you could look into the faces and the hearts of people who were traveling in danger of damnation, what would you do?   Some of them could even be your family members, friends, and co-workers. Do you love these people? Do you love them enough to expose yourself to rejection and persecution from them?
If you saw someone driving on a road which abruptly ended at a cliff, if you saw car after car go over the cliff, if you heard the people in these cars screaming on the way to their deaths — would you love enough to try to stop the cars driving on that road to death?
There is something worse than death. There is the “second death” (Rv 2:11): damnation. There is something greater than life. There is new and everlasting life in Jesus Christ. Do you love people enough to tell them the truth about death after death and life after death? If we don’t love enough to share our faith in Christ Jesus, do we have faith in Him and are we ourselves on the road to death?
Life is short. Live for Jesus. Share your faith.

Prayer: Jesus, my Life, You are my only Way (Jn 14:6). You are the Truth about life (Jn 14:6).

Promise: "Great is the Lord and wholly to be praised in the city of our God." —Ps 48:2

Praise: Joseph's jail ministry has shared the gospel with prisoners for thirty years.

CAUSE AND EFFECT
"They did not listen...they rejected [God's] statutes...and the warnings which He had given them." —2 Kings 17:14, 15

The Israelites experienced the consequences of rejecting God thousands of years ago, and modern society is following the same path. If the causes are similar, the results may be as well.
• Persist in sin, and receive the wages of sin: death (Rm 6:23).
• Condemn others, even silently, and be condemned (Mt 7:2).
• Fail to give alms, and cause others to suffer (Sir 14:4-9).
• Fail to evangelize, and reap a godless society.
• Put your trust in contraception and reap a culture of death.
• Sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind (Hos 8:7).
Our sinful, human nature tends toward death (Rm 8:6), and even pursues death. However, we have hope in Jesus, Who is our only Hope. When we live for Jesus alone, He breaks the destructive cycle of sin and gives us a new set of consequences:
• Repent, obey God’s commands, worship Him alone, and a thousand generations of your descendants receive His mercy (Ex 20:5-6; 1 Pt 2:10).
• Sow God’s Word, and reap much fruit (Mk 4:8).
• Trust God, give alms, and sow your money generously for Him, and He will wipe everything clean for you (Lk 11:42), open the floodgates of heaven to bless you beyond measure (Mal 3:10), and let you reap bountifully (2 Cor 9:6).
“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life” (Dt 30:19). Break out of the vicious cycle. Obey God.

Prayer: Jesus, save me from myself. Save me for a life of obedience, service, holiness, and worship. I give my life totally to You.

Promise: "The measure with which you measure will be used to measure you." —Mt 7:2

Praise: St. Paulinus was born to a wealthy family. After the death of his only son, he began a life of austerity. He was converted to the Faith by Sts. Augustine, Jerome, Martin of Tours, and Ambrose.

LIVING VICTORIOUSLY THE LIFE OF DAILY FEARS
"Do not fear those who deprive the body of life but cannot destroy the soul." —Matthew 10:28

The Lord has commanded us 365 times in the Scriptures: “Do not fear” (Mt 10:28, 31, our transl). By this command, the Lord means that we should not fear any human being, human circumstance, or even the devil. We should not fear death, dying, pain, persecution, rejection, loneliness, poverty, old age, having a large family, evangelizing, going to Confession, being a priest, religious, or missionary, tithing and giving alms, downsizing our lifestyles, etc.
The Lord commands us so frequently not to fear because we may frequently disobey this command and because we are so frequently tempted to let ourselves be manipulated by fear. Because temptations to fear are so pervasive and strong, the fulfillment of God’s plan for our lives, practically speaking, probably depends on whether we have consistently accepted God’s grace to overcome fear. Otherwise, we are life-long slaves of the devil through fear of death and related matters (Heb 2:15).
God graces us with victory over fear of men and human sufferings by giving us the fear of the Lord (see Mt 10:28). By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are awed by the all-holy God. Then we realize that this awesome God is our all-loving Father (see Mt 10:29), Who cherishes us as His children. This fills us with such trust in Him that we are secure in His love and not able to be manipulated by the pressures of fear. Adopted children of God the Father, do not fear!

Prayer: Father, may Your love drive out fear (1 Jn 4:18).

Promise: "If by the offense of the one man all died, much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound for all." —Rm 5:15

Praise: Lord Jesus, the Gentiles mocked You, spit upon You, flogged You, and finally killed You. But three days later You rose (see Mk 10:34). Jesus, we humbly thank You for Your sacrifice.

FAITHFUL TILL DEATH? - One Bread, One Body, 06/20/2020

FAITHFUL TILL DEATH?
"After the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and the king then listened to them. They forsook the temple of the Lord." —2 Chronicles 24:17-18

After the death of Jehoiada the priest, the Israelites forsook the temple of the Lord and served false gods. After a change of pastors, some parishioners don’t go to church as much anymore. After young people leave home, many leave the practice of their faith. After Christians are rejected by fellow parishioners, some drop out of ministry or become less active in their churches.
Our faith in Jesus, worship of the Lord, and service to His people might change because circumstances change. Our faith should move mountains, rather than mountains or even foothills moving our faith (see Mt 17:20). However, this firmness in our faith can only happen by God’s grace and our willingness to accept His grace. If we realize we are weak and changeable, we will “be solicitous” to make our “call and election permanent” (2 Pt 1:10). We will discipline our bodies and master them (1 Cor 9:27). We will cry out in prayer for God’s grace, live in His Word (Jn 8:31), surround ourselves with His people (Heb 12:1), and obey the Pope and the leaders of the Church. When we realize we need all the help we can get to persevere in the faith, we will seek and find all the help we need. Be solicitous to be faithful.

Prayer: Father, may I never be unfaithful to You, no matter how many turn away from You.

Promise: "Let tomorrow take care of itself." —Mt 6:34

Praise: In a private revelation, the Blessed Mother appeared to three Portuguese shepherd children in 1917 at Fatima. Since then, devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary has increased.

LOVE-FILLED OR LOVELESS?
"We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is Love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." —1 John 4:16

Jesus invites us to come to Him (Mt 11:28). He is the most attractive Person ever to walk the earth. He draws all people to Himself (see Jn 12:32). Jesus is not merely loving; He is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16). We are drawn to let ourselves be loved by Love — by Jesus, God Who is Love. How unimaginable and mysterious to be loved by Love Himself!
Though we are attracted to the God-Man Who is Love, we are naturally afraid. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Heb 10:31). He loved us by being crowned with thorns, shedding His blood, and hanging on the cross. We are naturally afraid to be loved by crucified Love. If we accept His love, this will necessarily change everything in our lives, and we will live in Love and Love in us (see 1 Jn 4:16).
We hesitate to let Love love us. Yet this is the opportunity of a lifetime. This is all that we have ever hoped for — and more, much more. We want to run to Jesus; we want to run away from Him. Love draws us; selfishness paralyzes us. What will we decide? Some walk away sad into a comfortable, loveless life (see Mt 19:22). Others plunge into the ocean of God’s love. What will you do with Love today and forever?

Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in You.

Promise: "Come to Me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you." —Mt 11:28

Praise: "I kept careful watch, and not one of them was lost" (Jn 17:12). Lord Jesus, we entrust ourselves to Your Sacred Heart. Grant us the grace of final perseverance.

WINNING WAYS
"How awesome are you, Elijah! Whose glory is equal to yours?" —Sirach 48:4

For about ten days, the Church has been reading to us about Elijah. Today we conclude this series. Before we move on, we need to be sure that we receive the message exemplified by Elijah. Elijah successfully brought down the culture of death led by Ahab and Jezebel. We have a similar mission: to bring down secular humanism’s culture of death in the Western world.
Elijah’s success was based on prophecy, listening to God’s whisper (1 Kgs 19:12ff), and discipleship. These three essential dynamics of life in Christ are critical for the modern Church to operate in power. If Christians are unaware that they have been baptized into Christ, the Prophet, they have not understood or obeyed the Lord’s command to seek the gift of prophecy more than any other spiritual gifts (1 Cor 14:1). Secondly, listening to God’s whispers in solitude and silence is a rarity in our media-driven culture of noise. Finally, if Christians do not have their primary identity as disciples of Christ, they are in no position to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19).
When we learn Elijah’s lessons, we will see Elijah’s victory over our culture of death. Be another Elijah as was St. John the Baptizer (see Lk 1:17).

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to teach me how to apply Jesus' definitive victory over the evil one.

Promise: "Forgive us the wrong we have done as we forgive those who wrong us." —Mt 6:12

Praise: Theresa begins her day and ends her day with quiet time with the Lord.

THE STRONGEST DESIRE
"Elijah said to Elisha, 'Ask for whatever I may do for you, before I am taken from you.' Elisha answered, 'May I receive a double portion of your spirit.' " —2 Kings 2:9

All Christians have been baptized in the Holy Spirit (see Mk 1:8). We are immersed in the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Blessed Trinity. We are filled with the Spirit and surrounded by the Spirit. We are preoccupied with the Holy Spirit, if we are living our Baptisms fully.
It is normal for Christians living their Baptisms to desire full life in the Spirit even more than Elisha desired to receive a double portion of the Spirit which was upon Elijah (see 2 Kgs 2:9). It is normal for those baptized in the Spirit not to quench (1 Thes 5:19) nor grieve the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30). Therefore, the Lord commands us to resist these temptations. It is normal for the baptized to thirst for the living waters of the Spirit (Jn 7:37-38) more than we thirst for any pleasure or need, even breath itself.
May we learn from Elisha to do whatever it takes to receive the Holy Spirit in a new Pentecost (2 Kgs 2:2ff). May we learn from the apostles to pray for as many days as necessary to increase our desire for the fullness of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:14). You are baptized in the Holy Spirit. Desire accordingly.

Prayer: Father, may I want zealously what You want.

Promise: "Be on guard against performing religious acts for people to see. Otherwise expect no recompense from your heavenly Father." —Mt 6:1

Praise: George has grown in his love for Jesus in the Eucharist and now spends hours per week in Eucharistic adoration.

WE KNOW BETTER THAN GOD?
"You have heard the commandment, 'You shall love your countryman but hate your enemy.' My command to you is: love your enemies, pray for your persecutors. This will prove that you are sons of your heavenly Father." —Matthew 5:43-45

Jesus repeatedly commands us to love our enemies. This is the essence of Jesus’ teaching — not only because it is part of the Sermon on the Mount, but also because it is what Jesus did when He died for us on the cross.
Nonetheless, many people, including Christians, have ignored Jesus’ repeated commands to love their enemies. They dismiss the commands of the all-holy Son of God, Wisdom Himself (1 Cor 1:30), as being impractical. They assume that the all-knowing God doesn’t know the situation with their enemies. However, we should assume that the Lord’s knowledge is way beyond ours (Is 55:8-9) and that we should by faith love our enemies, even if we don’t understand Jesus’ commands. We should dismiss our insane idea that we are more practical than God and face the fact that we have little to show for our supposed practicality. “For God’s folly is wiser than men, and His weakness more powerful than men” (1 Cor 1:25).
If we are not obeying commands which are “over our heads,” aren’t we “doing our own thing” under the guise of Christianity, rather than obeying God? If we dismiss Jesus’ command to love our enemies, aren’t we making up our own religion? If we don’t try to accept God’s grace to obey every Word which comes forth from His mouth (Mt 4:4), where is the integrity of our faith and how can we expect to be taken seriously?

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to show me more of what's at stake in obeying or disobeying Jesus' command to love enemies.

Promise: "He fasted, slept in the sackcloth, and went about subdued." —1 Kgs 21:27

Praise: Sarah prays daily for the conversion of unbelievers.

RESISTANCE
"What I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury." —Matthew 5:39

We are not to resist injury, but we are to “resist the devil” and he will flee from us (Jas 4:7). In fact, we are to charge the gates of hell, which cannot prevail against us (Mt 16:18). We should give the devil resistance plus aggression. However, we must offer no resistance to insult from people. We should not avenge ourselves (Rm 12:19). We should not be resisting and fighting human forces but Satan (Eph 6:12).
At first, this approach seems unrealistic and doomed to failure. Look at how the unresisting Naboth was murdered by the unscrupulous Ahab and Jezebel (1 Kgs 21:13). Look at Jesus, the mute Lamb, slaughtered on Calvary (Is 53:7). Yet look at the final outcome. The Lord raised up Elijah to deal with Ahab and Jezebel, and the whole wicked nation was brought down. Likewise, Jesus’ lack of resistance on Calvary brought down the kingdom of darkness. The most resistant hearts were broken open and humanity was saved.

Prayer: Father, by faith may I be able to move in the realm of the invisible and claim Your power.

Promise: "When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other. If anyone wants to go to law over your shirt, hand him your coat as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him two miles." —Mt 5:39-41

Praise: When tempted to return to his addiction Robert calls on the Holy Name of Jesus.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday FAITH AND CONSEQUENCES
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-6-14-en

"He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has life eternal and I will raise him up on the last day. For My
flesh is real food and My blood real drink. The man who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me,
and I in him." -John 6:54-56

When we receive Holy Communion and when we celebrate this solemn feast of Corpus Christi, we are making a great
act of faith. (St. Thomas Aquinas maintained that faith in the Body and Blood of Jesus is the greatest act of
faith.) Today we publicly profess our faith that:

. what appears mere bread and wine is really the Body and Blood of Jesus, because He said so,
. the Bible as given and interpreted by the Church is true and authoritative,
. the Church is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15), including the awesome truth of the Eucharist,
. we are in a communion of blood brotherhood and sisterhood with all who receive Holy Communion worthily
(see 1 Cor 10:17),
. we should view all other people as called to be in Eucharistic communion with us, and
. Holy Communion is therefore the essence and center of our lives.
To have faith in the revelation that we can and must receive the Body and Blood of God dramatically reconfigures
our lives in every detail. On this feast of Corpus Christi, accept God's grace to make an act of Eucharistic
faith that is greater than ever before and most pleasing to the Lord.

Prayer: Father, make my whole life revolve around preparing for Mass, praying the Mass, and living the Mass.

Promise: "Not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord."
-Dt 8:3

Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, the Bread of Life! (Jn 6:35)

FAITH AND CONSEQUENCES
"He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has life eternal and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is real food and My blood real drink. The man who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him." —John 6:54-56

When we receive Holy Communion and when we celebrate this solemn feast of Corpus Christi, we are making a great act of faith. (St. Thomas Aquinas maintained that faith in the Body and Blood of Jesus is the greatest act of faith.) Today we publicly profess our faith that:
• what appears mere bread and wine is really the Body and Blood of Jesus, because He said so,
• the Bible as given and interpreted by the Church is true and authoritative,
• the Church is “the pillar and bulwark of truth” (1 Tm 3:15), including the awesome truth of the Eucharist,
• we are in a communion of blood brotherhood and sisterhood with all who receive Holy Communion worthily (see 1 Cor 10:17),
• we should view all other people as called to be in Eucharistic communion with us, and
• Holy Communion is therefore the essence and center of our lives.
To have faith in the revelation that we can and must receive the Body and Blood of God dramatically reconfigures our lives in every detail. On this feast of Corpus Christi, accept God’s grace to make an act of Eucharistic faith that is greater than ever before and most pleasing to the Lord.

Prayer: Father, make my whole life revolve around preparing for Mass, praying the Mass, and living the Mass.

Promise: "Not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord." —Dt 8:3

Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, the Bread of Life! (Jn 6:35)

THE WORD ON OUR WORD - One Bread, One Body, 06/13/2020

THE WORD ON OUR WORD
"Say 'Yes' when you mean 'Yes.' " —Matthew 5:37

Jesus is, to put it mildly, a Man of His word. In fact, He is the God-Man of His word. He is the incarnate and eternal Word. Consequently, it is in character for Jesus to say in the Sermon on the Mount: “Say ‘Yes’ when you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ when you mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond that is from the evil one” (Mt 5:37; cf Jas 5:12). Jesus “was not alternately ‘yes’ and ‘no’; He was never anything but ‘yes.’ Whatever promises God has made have been fulfilled in Him” (2 Cor 1:19-20).
Therefore, when we renew our baptismal promises at Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday Mass, the Lord expects us to mean what we say, that is, to reject Satan and live lives of faith in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Moreover, after we pray the creed, Jesus expects us to be men and women of our word and be under His lordship and faithful to His Church forever.
Because Jesus is a Man of His Word and is the Word of God, Jesus also expects married couples to be faithful to their wedding promises and priests and religious to fully live their vows.
Jesus will give us the grace to be men and women of our word both in our major commitments and casual conversations. Because He is the Truth (Jn 14:6) and lives in us (see Jn 17:23), we can be true and faithful by His grace. In His Word, be a man or woman of your word.

Prayer: Father, send the Spirit of truth to make me a person of truth (see Jn 16:13).

Promise: "I bless the Lord Who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the Lord ever before me; with Him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed." —Ps 16:7-8

Praise: St. Anthony was born in Portugal. Through God's providence, a confluence of events took him to Italy where he joined the Mendicant Order of St. Francis of Assisi (the Franciscans). He is called "a martyr of the Word, a martyr of the road, a martyr of the crowds."

DIRTY LOOKS - One Bread, One Body, 06/12/2020

DIRTY LOOKS
"What I say to you is: anyone who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his thoughts." —Matthew 5:28

We live in a promiscuous society where girl-watching and boy-watching seem virtuous compared to fornication, adultery, and pornography. What once was called pornography is now called prime-time TV. However, Jesus calls us to sexual purity, not merely a lesser degree of perversion.

We are not even to look lustfully at another person. Jesus calls us to commit ourselves to sexual purity, so that if our right eye is our trouble, we gouge it out (Mt 5:29). Jesus is not telling us to mutilate ourselves, but to make a strong decision for purity. We are neither to look lustfully at another nor paint impure mental pictures through words. “As for lewd conduct or promiscuousness of any sort, let them not even be mentioned among you; your holiness forbids this” (Eph 5:3).

Jesus calls us to be pure as He is pure (1 Jn 3:3). Our bodies are not our own; they have been purchased at the price of Jesus’ blood (1 Cor 6:19-20). The parts of our bodies, including our sexual organs, are not to be used as weapons of evil, but weapons of righteousness (Rm 6:13). Let’s glorify God in our bodies, especially in our sexuality (1 Cor 6:20; cf Rm 12:1).

Prayer: Father, take away guilt from sexual sin. Replace it with purity and freedom.

Promise: "After the earthquake there was fire — but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak." —1 Kgs 19:12-13

Praise: Thomas gave up television for Bible study.
