STOP SIGNS

"Moses, my lord, stop them." -Numbers 11:28

John tried to stop a man from driving out demons (Mk 9:38). Jesus told John to stop preventing others from driving out demons even if John had to cut off his hand, amputate his leg, or gouge out his eye (see Mk 9:39, 43-47). John tried to stop the man from expelling demons possibly because he was jealous of a man more powerful than he was. Although we are often jealous, this is usually not the reason we try to stop people from expelling demons today. We do this through secularism, sin, and selfishness.
Secularism operates as if this world is all we need to think of. It denies any practical significance to heaven, eternity, God, or Satan. Expelling demons does not fit in with the secular mentality. So secularists scoff at the mention of driving out demons. If we are refusing to repent of sin, the devil will use that sin to manipulate us into opposing those who oppose him. Finally, if we are self-centered and not Christ-centered, we have no power over the devil, for any authority over him is in Jesus' name, not our name. Therefore, selfish people will avoid dealing with the devil, and selfishly insist on others doing the same.
Are you trying to stop those opposing the devil? Stop yourself instead.

Prayer: Father, the gates of hell cannot prevail against me (Mt 16:18). May I attack them in the name of Jesus.

Promise: "Would that the Lord might bestow His Spirit on them all!" -Nm 11:29

Praise: Praise You, risen Lord! Your law is perfect, refreshing my soul (Ps 19:8). All glory be to You! Alleluia!

PM eNewsletter 26th Sunday in ordinary time

September 30th 26th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week Jesus, Your church celebrates three
great archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael.

These three angels are shining examples of how You
love us, and protect us, by sending them to be Your
messengers to us, and with all of our own guardian
angels to be with us everyday.

Jesus, Your plan of loving us is so amazing that we
can't really understand it or truly appreciate it.

But that doesn't stop You from giving us help that we
need to get through this life, so that someday we will
come home and spend eternity with you.

Thank You for loving us.

Amen and Amen.

Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/BST/bst2012-08.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE POWER OF PRAYER

GOD WORKS THROUGH WEAKNESS

...To the extent that our union with the Lord increases and that our prayers become
intense, we also .. understand that it is not the power of our own means, our virtues,
our skills that brings about the Kingdom of God but that it is God Who works miracles
precisely through our weakness, our inadequacy for the task.

WITNESS TO GOD'S POWER

In a world in which we risk relying solely on the efficiency and power of human means,
we are called to rediscover and to witness to the power of God which is communicated
in prayer, with which every day we grow in conforming our life to that of Christ ...

TRANSFORMED LIVES

... The more room we make for prayer the more we will see our life transformed and
enlivened by the tangible power of God's love.

JESUS, LORD OF THE ANGELS - One Bread, One Body, 9/29/2012

Saturday, September 29, 2012, Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and, Raphael, Archangels

Daniel 7:9-10, 13, 14 or, Revelation 12:7-12, Psalm 138:1-5, John 1:47-51
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092912.cfm

JESUS, LORD OF THE ANGELS

"I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." -John 1:51

Out of myriads (Dn 7:10), even billions, of angels, the Bible reveals the names of only three - Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Michael is known for fighting the devil (Rv 12:7). Gabriel enlightened Mary about the Incarnation (Lk 1:26). Raphael restored sight to Tobit (Tb 11:7ff). To make it easy to remember, Michael helps us in the fight, Gabriel gives us light, and Raphael restores our sight physically and especially spiritually.
The purpose of the fight is to advance the kingdom of Jesus. The light is for knowing Jesus' will, and sight is to see Jesus' face (see 1 Cor 13:12). All angelic activity is focused on Jesus. The angels ascended and descended on Jesus, the Son of Man, while He was on earth (Jn 1:51). In heaven, all the angels cry out before Jesus' throne: "Worthy is the Lamb That was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and praise!" (Rv 5:12)
Jesus is the Center of attention for the angels. If He is the Center of attention for us, we will experience the activity of the angels. The closer we are to Jesus, the more we are involved with Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael - and the more we need to fight the devil, see the light of revelation, and have clear spiritual sight. Knowing the names and ministries of the three archangels is centered on knowing the Person and name of Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, as I worship at Your throne, help me to notice the angels worshipping with me.

Promise: "In the presence of the angels I will sing Your praise." -Ps 138:1

Praise: St. Michael was the principal fighter against the devil in the heavenly battle (Rv 12:7). Praise You, Lord, for sending mighty angels to guard us.

GETTIN' IT ALL TOGETHER - One Bread, One Body, 9/28/2012

Friday, September 28, 2012, St. Wenceslaus, St. Lawrence Ruiz, & Companions

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, Psalm 144:1-4, Luke 9:18-22
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092812.cfm

GETTIN' IT ALL TOGETHER

"He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts." -Ecclesiastes 3:11

In the old covenant, we could be born and only later die (Eccl 3:2). However, in the new covenant, when we believe in Jesus, we die to self (Jn 12:24) and are born again at the same time (see Jn 3:3, 5). Moreover, in Jesus, seeking and losing are not necessarily opposites (see Eccl 3:6). Only when we lose our lives (Lk 9:24) can we seek first God's kingdom (Mt 6:33). Also, love and hate are not always opposites (Eccl 3:8). We hate sin because we love sinners and especially because we love God. Finally, because Jesus is our Peace (Eph 2:14), we have a peace beyond understanding (Phil 4:7). Our peace is not incompatible with war (Eccl 3:8). Rather, we have peace in the midst of a spiritual war (Eph 6:12; Rv 19:14ff).
Because of sin, creation and our human nature are fallen. Our hearts are restless. We struggle with inner conflicts (Jas 4:1). In the old covenant, "all the works of the Most High...come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other" (Sir 33:15). In the new covenant, Jesus has destroyed "the devil's works" (1 Jn 3:8) and has reconciled "everything in His Person, both on earth and in the heavens" (Col 1:20). "All this has been done by God, Who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Cor 5:18).

Prayer: Jesus, I give my life to You.

Promise: The Son of Man "must first endure many sufferings, be rejected by the elders, the high priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and then be raised up on the third day." -Lk 9:22

Praise: St. Lawrence told his executioners: "I am a Christian. I shall die for God, and for Him I would give many thousands of lives, so do with me what you please."

JESUS AND THE VAIN DRAIN - One Bread, One Body, 9/27/2012

Thursday, September 27, 2012, St. Vincent de Paul

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11, Psalm 90:3-6, 12-14, 17, Luke 9:7-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092712.cfm

JESUS AND THE VAIN DRAIN

"Vanity of vanities!" -Ecclesiastes 1:2

"All things are vanity!" (Eccl 1:2) Our work is wasted (Eccl 1:3). We live so we can die (see Eccl 1:4). The sun, the wind, the rivers, and all creation are trapped in a cyclical pattern (see Eccl 1:5-7). We are literally and futilely "going around in circles." Even talking about our problem is a problem (Eccl 1:8).
The more we know and experience, the more dissatisfied and empty we become (Eccl 1:8). We think we can change the future, but the future will be merely re-runs of the past (see Eccl 1:9-10). Death overshadows life so much as to make life an exercise in self-deception and futility. We are tempted to view novelties and anomalies as newness, freedom, and hope. However, these signs of hope, on closer inspection, become signs of doom.
Jesus became a human being and entered our vicious cycle of vanity, illusion, and despair. Although He was crucified and murdered, He was not destroyed by this fallen world. Jesus rose from the dead. This was new - radically and totally new. Jesus broke the spell of deadly vanity. "This means that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new!" (2 Cor 5:17) Change anything and everything in your life so that you live in Jesus (see Gal 2:19-20).

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your love in Jesus.

Promise: "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart." -Ps 90:12

Praise: St. Vincent's primary virtue was charity. He combined his ministry among the very rich and fashionable with his absolute devotion to the oppressed and the poor.

"I SHALL NOT WANT" (Ps 23:1) - One Bread, One Body, 9/26/2012

Wednesday, September 26, 2012, Sts. Cosmas & Damian

Proverbs 30:5-9, Psalm 119:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163, Luke 9:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092612.cfm

"I SHALL NOT WANT" (Ps 23:1)

"Give me neither poverty nor riches; [provide me only with the food I need;] lest, being full, I deny You, saying, 'Who is the Lord?' or, being in want, I steal, and profane the name of my God." -Proverbs 30:8-9

Jesus sent His disciples out on mission as follows: "Take nothing for the journey, neither walking staff nor traveling bag; no bread, no money" (Lk 9:3). The disciples would be provided for by their heavenly Father, Who knew all they needed before they could ask (Mt 6:32) and Who provided everything for them (Mt 6:30). Since God was their Provider, the disciples were free to concentrate on proclaiming the good news of the Gospel.
Our central battle is one of faith. Will we or won't we believe that God will provide for us? If we believe the Lord will personally provide for us, we won't need to steal food and thereby provide for ourselves. Jesus asked His disciples: " 'When I sent you on mission without purse or traveling bag or sandals, were you in need of anything?' 'Not a thing,' they replied" (Lk 22:35).
However, if we don't believe Jesus and His promise that the Father provides our needs, we will steal or do whatever it takes to satisfy our needs (Prv 30:9). One of Jesus' disciples, Judas, lost this battle of faith. Judas did steal to provide for his wants (Jn 12:6). In so doing, he profaned the name of his God (Prv 30:9) and eventually betrayed Jesus at Gethsemani (Mt 26:49).
Daily, constantly, renew your faith in God as Provider and in Jesus as Lord. "Trust in Him at all times" (Ps 62:9).

Prayer: Lord, "I do believe! Help my lack of trust!" (Mk 9:24)

Promise: "Jesus now called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority to overcome all demons." -Lk 9:1

Praise: Sts. Cosmas and Damian, both doctors, provided free medical care to the poor, and were hated by the governor and emperor. Despite opposition, they faithfully served God in this ministry.

"DOING THE HONORS" - One Bread, One Body, 9/25/2012

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

"DOING THE HONORS"

"He was told, 'Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.' He told them in reply, 'My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it.' " -Luke 8:20-21

If your mother came to visit you, would you leave her standing outside while you were talking with other people? That's what Jesus did. Was Jesus disobeying the fourth commandment by not honoring His mother? No, Jesus was not refusing to honor His mother. He was honoring her even more for her hearing God's word and acting on it, even to the point of the Word becoming flesh in her womb (Jn 1:14). Furthermore, Jesus extended His honor of Mary to include anyone willing to hear God's word and act on it. So Jesus was not dishonoring Mary but honoring her more, and even honoring those who choose to live honorably by hearing and obeying His Word.
Will you let the Lord honor you with Mary? Will you choose to be as close to Jesus as His mother, brothers, or sisters? Will you live a life of obedient faith (see Rm 1:5) in God's Word and thereby receive the intimacy, security (Mt 7:24), and happiness (Lk 11:28) that He died on the cross for you to possess? Get on God's honor roll.

Prayer: Father, open my eyes and heart to obey You in areas where I have been traditionally disobedient.

Promise: "To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." -Prv 21:3

Praise: After ten days of waiting for work for his newly-formed business, John began a novena to Jesus under the title of the "Infant of Prague." The next day, calls came in for as much work as he could handle.

"CLOTHED AND IN HIS RIGHT MIND"(Mk 5:15, our transl.) - One Bread, One Body, 9/24/2012

"CLOTHED AND IN HIS RIGHT MIND"(Mk 5:15, our transl.)

"When He is dealing with the arrogant, He is stern, but to the humble He shows kindness." -Proverbs 3:34

God is love (1 Jn 4:16). God is loving us perfectly and will love us always. The question is: "Will His love be 'tough love' or kind love?" We decide the answer to this question by deciding whether or not to humble ourselves. Proverbs 3:34 teaches that the best way to love arrogant people is to correct, discipline, and punish them so that they will come to their senses and repent. In contrast, the way to love the humble is to exalt them (Mt 23:12). How will you choose to be loved?
Proverbs 3:34, which reveals God's dealings with the arrogant and the humble, is repeated by the author of First Peter (1 Pt 5:5). This verse elaborates on the proverb by placing it in the context of humility in relationships, especially for young men in relation to old men. He commands us to "clothe" ourselves with humility (1 Pt 5:5). We are called not just to be humble in some circumstances but to have total coverage in our humility.
Are you fully clothed in humility, or are you skimpily clad? Put all your clothes on (Mk 5:15), and let God love you with kindness.

Prayer: Father, may I not only have my armor on (see Eph 6:13) but also my clothes (see Col 3:12).

Promise: "No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel basket or under a bed; he puts it on a lampstand so that whoever comes in can see it." -Lk 8:16

Praise: Young Keith prays a rosary each night before going to bed.

(Grow in humility by reading the Bible each day. A tape series that may help you is "An Introduction to each Book of the Bible". It is thirty-two audio tapes starting with AV 21-1, "Matthew and Mark", or seventeen video tapes starting with V-21.)

PM eNewsletter 25th Sunday in ordinary time

September 23rd 25th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the feast of
an apostle who lived the good life till You called him.

Then he lived the great life of knowing You.

St. Matthew was a tax collector and enjoyed the
pleasure of a big house, and lots of friends.

But, You, Jesus called him and he gave it all away.

Please Lord, give us the true understanding, that only
in knowing You, will we ever find the real meaning of life.

Let us see that all the things of this world will pass
away, but being with You will never pass away.

You Christ are the way and truth of life.

Thank You for your love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday NEED I ASK?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/23/2012

"You cannot acquire, so you quarrel and fight." -James 4:2

Our international wars and personal conflicts are partially
due to the fact that even our legitimate needs are sometimes
not met, although the Lord has promised to provide all our
needs, "our daily bread" (Mt 6:11). This is because His
promise is often conditional upon our asking Him in prayer.

The Lord states in His word: "You do not obtain because you
do not ask" (Jas 4:2). This statement may puzzle us, for we
recall asking the Lord to meet certain needs that we don't
see met. However, to get what we need, we must not only ask
vocally but unselfishly (Jas 4:3). Selfish praying leaves
us very needy and contentious.

We are naturally selfish, and therefore trapped into
depriving ourselves of our needs. The only way to have an
unselfish heart is to get a new heart (see Ez 36:26), and
Jesus is the only One Who can give us a new heart and a new
life. So, without Jesus, we can do nothing (Jn 15:5). We
can't pray rightly or keep from fighting. Our need of all
needs is total love for Jesus.

Prayer: Father, thank You for providing my Need, Jesus.

Promise: "O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my
mouth. For haughty men have risen up against me, and fierce
men seek my life; they set not God before their eyes. Behold,
God is my Helper; the Lord sustains my life." -Ps 54:4-6

Praise: "I will praise Your name, O Lord, for its goodness"
(Ps 54:8). I rejoice in Your love, risen Lord Jesus.

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE POWER OF PRAYER

"OASIS OF PEACE"

Prayer is not only the breath of the soul ..., it is also the oasis of peace from
which we can draw the water that nourishes our spiritual life and transforms our
existence.

"SCALE THE MOUNTAIN"

God draws us towards Him, offering us enlightenment and consolation, and enabling
us to scale the mountain of holiness so that we may be ever closer to Him.

POWER IN WEAKNESS

The power of God, Who does not abandon us or leave us on our own but becomes our
support and strength, is revealed at the very moment when we experience our own
weakness.

NEED I ASK?

"You cannot acquire, so you quarrel and fight." -James 4:2

BLACKTOPPING AMERICA - One Bread, One Body, 9/22/2012

BLACKTOPPING AMERICA

"In the sowing, some fell on the footpath." -Luke 8:5

Did you ever notice there has been an attempt to blacktop our country from coast to coast? There are more and more roads and parking lots. Through our parking garages, we even put layers of blacktop or concrete into the air. Where there were formerly farm lands, we now see subdivisions and shopping malls.
The attempt to blacktop this country may be a physical sign of the devil's attempt to spiritually blacktop us. He wants to make us a footpath in which it is impossible for the seed of God's word to take root (see Mk 4:15).
The devil tried to blacktop the Corinthian church. He started by getting several Corinthian Christians to keep company with people who would have a bad effect on their faith (1 Cor 15:33). This bad company corrupted the Corinthians' good morals. As they became more involved in sin, some Corinthians started to lose their faith in the resurrection of the believers. Paul said this would result in a total loss of faith (1 Cor 15:14).
Don't let the devil blacktop you through others' influence, your sins, and general confusion. Be good ground; hear "the word in a spirit of openness, retain it, and bear fruit through perseverance" (Lk 8:15).

Prayer: Father, through repentance may I let You break up my hardened heart (see Ps 95:8).

Promise: "So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in the earth is subject to decay, what rises is incorruptible." -1 Cor 15:42

Praise: When in need of money, Joseph trusted in God to provide, and the money came unexpectedly through a cousin.

(Grow in your faith by helping others grow in their faith by counseling others using the Bible. For encouragement, order our series on "Biblical Counseling" on audio AV 13A-1, AV 13A-3, AV 13B-1 or video starting with V-13A.)

Matthew collected taxes. Because Matthew worked for the Romans, he cooperated in Rome's oppression of the Jewish people. Therefore, when Matthew collected taxes, he also collected injustices and enemies. Matthew quit collecting taxes and followed Jesus (see Mt 9:9). Then he collected the sayings and teachings of Jesus, the preaching of the early Church, and the accounts of Jesus' miracles and healings. He put all this together to compose his Gospel.
You may be a collector yourself. You may collect stamps, baseball cards, antiques, or even art. But what do you collect spiritually? Some people collect compulsions. They pick up one after another. Others collect fears. They "live in fear" (see Lk 12:32). Some collect unforgiveness, resentment, and grudges. Others collect hurts. They have so many more hurts than healings.
As Matthew did, let's leave the spiritual garbage we've collected over the years and follow Jesus. Then we can start a new collection - a collection of healings, forgivenesses, freedoms, and commitments to the Lord.
Human beings have the tendency to collect something. Whatever we collect, may it give glory to God (see 1 Cor 10:31).

Prayer: Father, I give up many of my collections to start a new collection for You.

Promise: "Live a life worthy of the calling you have received, with perfect humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another lovingly." -Eph 4:1-2

Praise: St. Matthew, once a greedy tax collector, left his job to follow Jesus. He then wrote: "How blest are the poor in spirit; the reign of God is theirs" (Mt 5:3).

LOVED AND FORGIVEN INTO LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 9/20/2012

Thursday, September 20, 2012, St. Andrew Kim Taegon,, St. Paul Chong Hasang,, & the Korean Martyrs

1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 28, Luke 7:36-50

LOVED AND FORGIVEN INTO LOVE

"Little is forgiven the one whose love is small." -Luke 7:47

Do you believe that Jesus loves you so much that He died on the cross to free you from your sins? Do you believe that without Jesus' death on the cross you would be doomed to hell forever because of your sins? Each one of us has been forgiven an enormous, unpayable debt. Therefore, we should:
* cry tears of love, contrition, and joy (see Lk 7:38),
* love Jesus so much that we throw ourselves at His feet (Lk 7:38),
* love Jesus so much that we wash, kiss, and perfume His feet (Lk 7:38),
* be impelled by love to share the good news of justification and forgiveness through Jesus (see 2 Cor 5:14),
* forgive others for even the worst offenses - after all that the Lord has forgiven us (Mt 18:32ff), and
* love everyone, even our enemies, because Jesus first loved us (1 Jn 4:19).

If our love is small, then we do not realize how loved and forgiven we are (see Lk 7:47). If our love is great, "we have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us" (1 Jn 4:16). "Grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love, and experience this love" (Eph 3:18-19). Then love and forgive accordingly.

Prayer: Father, I will live on in Your love and forgiveness (Jn 15:9).

Promise: "I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and in which you stand firm. You are being saved by it at this very moment if you hold fast to it as I preached it to you." -1 Cor 15:1-2

Praise: Sts. Andrew and Paul represent the 103 canonized martyrs of Korea, who shed their blood to give life to the growing Church in Korea.

LOVED AND GIFTED - One Bread, One Body, 9/19/2012

Wednesday, September 19, 2012, St. Januarius

1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13, Psalm 33:2-5, 12, 22, Luke 7:31-35

LOVED AND GIFTED

"Set your hearts on the greater gifts. Now I will show you the way which surpasses all the others." -1 Corinthians 12:31-13:1

Love and the gifts of the Spirit (charisms) go together. If we have charisms, such as tongues, prophecy, knowledge, faith, ministry, or martyrdom, but do not have love, we gain nothing (1 Cor 13:1-3). Gifts without love are dead (cf Jas 2:26).
However, this does not mean that we should forget about the gifts of the Spirit and concentrate on love. Immediately after Paul proclaimed, "There are in the end three things that last; faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love" (1 Cor 13:13), he taught on the proper use of tongues and prophecy. He thanked God that he spoke in tongues more than any Corinthian (1 Cor 14:18), and commanded us to set our hearts especially on the gift of prophecy (1 Cor 14:1). Therefore, Paul taught not only that gifts without love were dead, but that love without gifts leaves something to be desired. Love is one way of describing the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). Fruit is the end product. Without the full workings of the Holy Spirit, including the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we will not have fully developed fruit.
Love is the atmosphere essential for the proper use of the spiritual gifts, while use of the gifts is a prerequisite for the full development of love. Seek the gifts of the Spirit in love and for love.

Prayer: Father, may I seek both the gifts and the fruit of the Spirit.

Promise: "God's wisdom is vindicated by all who accept it." -Lk 7:35

Praise: St. Januarius, while serving as a bishop, visited his friend Sosius in prison to give encouragement and so became a martyr too. "There is no greater love than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends" (Jn 15:13).

GRAVE-SINS - One Bread, One Body, 9/18/2012

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

GRAVE-SINS

Jesus "said, 'Young man, I bid you get up.' The dead man sat up and began to speak." -Luke 7:14-15

If Jesus had raised you from the dead, wouldn't that inspire you to love Him with all your heart and to serve Him with zeal and total abandon? However, Jesus has raised you from a worse death than physical death. He has raised you from the death of sin.
Our lives before receiving new life in Christ were much more like death than life. God's Word describes our original state thus: "You were dead because of your sins and offenses, as you gave allegiance to the present age and to the prince of the air, that spirit who is even now at work among the rebellious. All of us were once of their company" (Eph 2:1-3; see also Lk 15:32). "Even when you were dead in sin and your flesh was uncircumcised, God gave you new life in company with Christ. He pardoned all our sins" (Col 2:13). "The wages of sin is death" (Rm 6:23). Those who do not repent are "among the living dead" (1 Jn 3:14). Even whole churches, cities, and nations can be dead (see Rv 3:1). So it is not just a figure of speech that all of us were dead. It is a literal, spiritual statement.
By our Baptism into Jesus through faith, Jesus has raised us from death (Col 3:1). We have reason to be grateful - eternally and zealously grateful. Therefore, "offer yourselves to God as men who have come back from the dead to life, and your bodies to God as weapons for justice" (Rm 6:13). We have been raised! It is true!
Love Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life"! (Jn 11:25)

Prayer: Father, may I act like a person who has come out of the grave.

Promise: "Set your hearts on the greater gifts." -1 Cor 12:31

Praise: Tim repented of fornication and expressed it by moving out of his girlfriend's house and giving his life to Jesus.

AMEN! - One Bread, One Body, 9/17/2012

Monday, September 17, 2012, St. Robert Bellarmine

1 Corinthians 11:17-26, 33, Psalm 40:7-10, 17, Luke 7:1-10
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/091712.cfm

AMEN!

"Just give the order and my servant will be cured." -Luke 7:7

When you receive Holy Communion, the priest or distributor says: "Body of Christ," and you respond: "Amen." Your "Amen" means:
* You believe you are receiving "the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus" (Catechism, 1374).
* You ask Jesus to give you an order, a word, for you to obey (Lk 7:7).
* You believe in the Lord's healing (see Lk 7:7).
* You commit yourself to unity with the members of Christ's body (cf 1 Cor 11:18ff).
* You commit yourself to the new covenant in Jesus' blood (1 Cor 11:25).
* You "proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes!" (1 Cor 11:26)

Your "Amen" before receiving Communion is a total commitment of your life to the Father, through the Son, and in the Spirit.
Therefore, we should receive Jesus in Holy Communion daily or as often as possible. We should prepare for Communion by regular, frequent Confession and by fasting in some conscious way before each Mass. Communion will either be one of the greatest events of our lives and a whole way of life, or Communion will be very harmful to us (1 Cor 11:17). Make all your Communions holy.

Prayer: Father, may this book lead its readers to daily and holy Communions.

Promise: "This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me." -1 Cor 11:24

Praise: Although St. Robert was a small, physically unimpressive man who had to preach from the pulpit while standing on a stool, he preached with such power and authority that many converted to Catholicism.

PM eNewsletter 24th Sunday in ordinary time

September 16th 24th Sunday in ordinary time.

Oh! Jesus, what sorrow can be more painful then a mother
watching her beloved Son die a most horrible death.

This week our church honors Mary of "Lady of sorrows" who
stood at Your cross and saw You die.

Yet her faith was not dimmed, because her trust in the
Father continued.

Please, oh! Jesus, give us some of that faith that we might
continue to face all the problems of life with the faith of Mary.

Lord, let us give You praise and glory throughout our lives.

Lord, let us have the peace that only You can give, and let
Your love guide us always.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday CROSS-PURPOSES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/16/2012

"If a man wishes to come after Me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and follow
in My steps." -Mark 8:34

To be Jesus' disciples, we must both deny ourselves and accept the cross. Denial is never an
end in itself, but is for the purpose of accepting something. Acceptance is impossible
without denial. For example, accepting a life of selfishness means denying the cross and
vice versa. Many Christians try to deceive themselves into thinking they have accepted
Jesus' cross, although they have not denied the world. However, at the cross we are
crucified to the world and the world to us (Gal 6:14). Cross-accepting always requires
self-denial, world-denial, and sin-denial. The self-realization of the world is
cross-rejection.

Compromise with the worldly system which ignores Jesus' lordship is not merely refusing to
accept the cross, but deciding to become an "enemy of the cross" (see Phil 3:18).
Consequently, the cross is either a stumbling block and absurdity or the power and wisdom of
God (1 Cor 1:23-24). There is no in-between. As the popular hymn says, "The cross before us,
the world behind us."

Prayer: Father, may I boast of nothing but the cross (Gal 6:14).

Promise: "The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to
the weary a word that will rouse them. Morning after morning He opens my ear that I may
hear." -Is 50:4

Praise: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have
redeemed the world."

Mother Mary

MARY-WHO IS SHE IN GOD'S PLAN?
http://presentationministries.com/brochures/MotherMary.asp

"When the designated time had come, God sent forth His Son born of a woman."
-Galatians 4:4

Catholics and the Orthodox maintain Mary is the most important human being in God's
plan, except for her Son, the God-Man, Jesus. Others think that by honoring Mary we
take away from the worship of Jesus. However, Catholics and the Orthodox say Mary
will lead a person to Jesus, just as all good Christians try to lead their friends
to the Lord. After all, Mary's last recorded words in the Bible were: "Do whatever
He (Jesus) tells you" (Jn 2:5). What is Mary's part in God's plan? Does she mother,
minister, and intercede today?

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE POWER OF PRAYER

TRANSFORMED LIVES

... The more room we make for prayer the more we will see our life transformed and
enlivened by the tangible power of God's love.

NOT ALIENATED FROM REALITY

Contemplation of Christ in our life does not alienate us ... from reality. Rather it
enables us to share even more in human events, because the Lord, in attracting us to
Him through prayer, enables us to make ourselves present and close to every brother
and sister in His love.

OPEN MINDS AND HEARTS

The daily encounter with the Lord and regular acceptance of the Sacraments enable us
to open our mind and heart to His presence, His words and His action.
