LOVE NO MATTER WHAT

"Is it for nothing that Job is God-fearing?" -Job 1:9

Job was the holiest person on the face of the earth. There was "no one on earth like him, blameless and upright, fearing God and avoiding evil" (Jb 1:8). Because he was so open to God's graces, he was able to receive from God a beautiful family and many other blessings. So Satan accused Job of serving God for the benefits and not from pure love. God let Job prove Satan wrong by letting Satan destroy Job's family and bankrupt Job all in one day. Job continued to love God even in severe adversity. Job proclaimed: "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!" (Jb 1:21) Job served God not for perishable benefits (see Jn 6:27), but from true love. Job's motives for serving God were not mixed but pure motives. Job loved God unconditionally, as God loved him.

Why are you a Christian? Would you love the Lord even if there was no heaven or hell? Would you love God if He let your spouse or children die tragically? Would you love God if He permitted you to experience adversity instead of prosperity? Would you praise God even if you were confused about what He was allowing in your life? Are you willing to say: "Though the fig tree blossom not nor fruit be on the vines, though the yield of the olive fail and the terraces produce no nourishment, though the flocks disappear from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet will I rejoice in the Lord and exult in my saving God"? (Hab 3:17-18)

Look at Jesus on the cross. Love God unconditionally.

Prayer: Father, may my love for You be pure. Do whatever necessary to purify it.

Promise: "Whoever welcomes this little child on My account welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him Who sent Me; for the least one among you is the greatest." -Lk 9:48

Praise: St. Therese offered herself to the merciful love of Jesus. She begged to receive the mercy others refused.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday ANY JEALOUS BONES IN YOUR BODY?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/30/2018

"Are you jealous?" -Numbers 11:29

The devil couldn't stop the seventy-two Israelite elders from receiving the Spirit (see Nm 11:25-26).
However, he hoped to be more successful by enticing the Israelites to quench the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19)
through jealousy (Nm 11:29).

Demons could not prevent a man from using Jesus' name to expel them (Mk 9:38). Therefore, they tried
to stop the continuation of this man's ministry of deliverance (Mk 9:38). Once again, the demons tried
to accomplish this through jealousy.

Jesus is dead set against jealous people being sad at others' successes and thereby saddening the Holy
Spirit (Eph 4:30). He warns that if we're jealous of other people's hands because they work better
than ours and can make more money, then we should cut off our own hands rather than remain rooted in
jealousy (Mk 9:43). If we're jealous of others' speed, strength, or health, we should cut off our feet
(Mk 9:45). If we're jealous of how others look, we should tear out one of our eyes (Mk 9:47). If you
have a "jealous bone in your body," Jesus says to take out the bone or amputate that part of your body.

Jealousy is one of the works of the flesh (Gal 5:20). "I warn you, as I have warned you before: those
who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!" (Gal 5:21) Repent of jealousy. Don't compare
yourself with others. Believe in God the Father's love for you as His child.

Prayer: Father, I offer my body to You as a living sacrifice (Rm 12:1).

Promise: "Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow His
Spirit on them all!" -Nm 11:29

Praise: "He is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords Who alone has
immortality and Who dwells in unapproachable light, Whom no human being has ever seen or can see. To
Him be honor and everlasting rule! Amen" (1 Tm 6:15-16).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-09.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

WATER AND CARE OF CREATION

PRAYERFUL HOPE

It is my prayerful hope that Christian communities may contribute more and more concretely helping
everyone to enjoy this indispensable resource, in respectful care for the gifts received from the
Creator, and in particular rivers, seas and oceans.

SIMPLE AND PRECIOUS

... Water ... is a very simple and precious element, yet access to it is, sadly, for many people
difficult if not impossible. Nonetheless, "access to safe drinkable water is a basic and universal
human right, since it is essential to human survival and ... is a condition for the exercise of
other human rights. Our world owes a great social debt towards the poor who lack access to drinking
water, because they are denied the right to a life consistent with their inalienable dignity"
(Laudato Si', 30).

"SISTER WATER"

... I feel the need to give thanks to God for "Sister Water", simple and useful for life like
nothing else on our planet. Precisely for this reason, care for water sources and water basins is an
urgent imperative... We urgently need shared projects and concrete gestures that recognize that
every privatization of the natural good of water , at the expense of the human right to have access
to this good, is unacceptable.

ANY JEALOUS BONES IN YOUR BODY?

The devil couldn't stop the seventy-two Israelite elders from receiving the Spirit (see Nm 11:25-26). However, he hoped to be more successful by enticing the Israelites to quench the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19) through jealousy (Nm 11:29).

THE GOLDEN ARCH AROUND JESUS - One Bread, One Body, 9/29/2018

Saturday, September 29, 2018, Sts. Michael, Gabriel & Raphael, Archangels

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 or, Revelation 12:7-12, Psalm 138:1-5, John 1:47-51
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092918.cfm

THE GOLDEN ARCH AROUND JESUS

"As the visions during the night continued, I saw One like a Son of Man coming, on the clouds of heaven; when He reached the Ancient One and was presented before Him, He received dominion, glory, and kingship." -Daniel 7:13-14

In a vision, Daniel saw God's throne in heaven. "Thousands upon thousands were ministering to Him, and myriads upon myriads attended Him" (Dn 7:10). Angels surround God's throne and worship Him forever.

Jesus told Nathanael: "I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man" (Jn 1:51). Angels surround Jesus and center their activity on Him. The angels center on Jesus as they center on God's throne. Angels are by definition "messengers." All their messages are directed to the ultimate message: "JESUS CHRIST IS LORD," that is, God (Phil 2:11).

John, like Daniel, saw "an open door to heaven" (Rv 4:1). He saw God's throne, and he "heard the voices of every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea; everything in the universe cried aloud: 'To the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise and honor, glory and might, forever and ever!' " (Rv 5:13) Jesus is the Lamb of God, Who is God. All angels and all creation exist to worship Him.

Like the angels, we should always think of ourselves on the periphery and Jesus as the Center, Lord, and God. "In the presence of the angels" (Ps 138:1), worship Jesus.

Prayer: Father, in the Holy Spirit, I throw my life at Jesus' feet and worship Him.

Promise: "Now have salvation and power come, the reign of our God and the authority of His Anointed One." -Rv 12:10

Praise: Teenage Warren played the part of St. Raphael in a play. Before the production, Warren prayed a novena to St. Raphael asking for the grace to touch hearts through the performances.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME - One Bread, One Body, 9/28/2018

Friday, September 28, 2018, St. Wenceslaus, St. Lawrence Ruiz & Companions

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, Psalm 144:1-4, Luke 9:18-22
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092818.cfm

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

"There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens." -Ecclesiastes 3:1

In the Old Testament, God appointed a time for everything, and we had very little to say about it. There were exceptions to the rule, such as Hezekiah getting fifteen more years to live (Is 38:5, 8) and Joshua making the sun stand still for a day (Jos 10:12-13). But generally the timing of events was set and we couldn't do much about it.

In the New Testament, the Lord has given us much greater authority over time. He has delayed His Second Coming for almost two-thousand years to maximize our opportunities to repent. We can hasten the time of His coming by repenting and leading others to do the same (2 Pt 3:12). The Lord has told us we can pray for some tragedies to be cancelled, delayed, or at least not to occur at the worst time (see Mk 13:18). For our sake, the Lord has shortened the time of the final tribulation (Mk 13:20). We as Christians can sometimes move the hands of the clock of time.

Prayer: Lord, may I speed up the time of Your final coming.

Promise: " 'But you - Who do you say that I am?' He asked them. Peter said in reply, 'The Messiah of God.' " -Lk 9:20

Praise: St. Lawrence's companions in martyrdom included nine priests, three lay people, two religious and two virgins, all of whom had preached in the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan.

POST-BAPTISMAL DEPRESSION? - One Bread, One Body, 9/27/2018

Thursday, September 27, 2018, St. Vincent de Paul

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11, Psalm 90:3-6, 12-14, 17, Luke 9:7-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092718.cfm

POST-BAPTISMAL DEPRESSION?

"The eye is not satisfied with seeing nor is the ear filled with hearing." -Ecclesiastes 1:8

Few people would dispute the fact that the book of Ecclesiastes is the most depressing book of the Bible. It begins: "Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!" (Eccl 1:2) It ends: "Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, all things are vanity!" (Eccl 12:8) Ecclesiastes depicts the utter emptiness and hopelessness of life without Christ. However, we who are baptized into Christ have been "delivered from the futile way of life" (1 Pt 1:18) to live the truly new (see 2 Cor 5:17) and absolutely abundant life (Jn 10:10).

If this is true, why are we Christians sometimes as discouraged as anyone else? There are several explanations for post-Christ, post-baptismal despondence. Nevertheless, no matter what the circumstances, to change from vanity to fullness we must renew our Baptisms and "stir into flame the gift of God" (2 Tm 1:6).

Right now, renew your baptismal promises by rejecting Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises. Express your total faith in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Bless yourself with the holy water which reminds us of our Baptism. Baptized into Jesus, our lives are not vain; rather, they are lives of "justice, peace, and the joy that is given by the Holy Spirit" (Rm 14:17).

Prayer: Father, may I renew my Baptism daily, especially on the anniversary of my Baptism. When I get tired for You, may I never get tired of You.

Promise: "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart." -Ps 90:12

Praise: St. Vincent de Paul served both his parishioners and other priests. Many rich, poor, outcasts, convicts, laity and clergy experienced this man's consuming love of God and neighbor.

SPIRITUAL ECOLOGY

"They set out and went from village to village, spreading the good news everywhere and curing diseases." -Luke 9:6

The Lord has given the Church and her members "power and authority to overcome all demons and to cure diseases" (Lk 9:1). Many Christians have doubts about this, for they have not seen demons overcome and diseases cured. Are their doubts the cause of their powerlessness, its result, or both its cause and effect?

The Lord did not simply command us to drive out demons and heal the sick. He called us to do this as a sign and proclamation of His kingdom (Lk 9:2). Furthermore, the kingdom ministry of healing and deliverance is for those who provide nothing for themselves and completely rely on the Lord to provide their material needs (Lk 9:3-4).

Healing the sick and driving out demons are not isolated events. They are related to each other, to the proclamation of God's kingdom, and to a radical trust in and dependence on God's providence.

Healing and deliverance are "endangered species" for many Christians. They are seen only rarely or merely heard about. Let the Holy Spirit restore the ecology of God's kingdom in your life. Then God's promises will be fulfilled not rarely but daily.

Prayer: Father, I choose the lifestyle that will make healings and deliverances common.

Promise: "Every word of God is tested; He is a Shield to those who take refuge in Him." -Prv 30:5

Praise: Sts. Cosmas and Damian healed bodies and souls. Out of love for Jesus, the Divine Physician, they offered free medical help to all who needed it.

JESUS, THE LIVING WORD, HAS "FULL AUTHORITY" (MT 28:18)

"My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it." -Luke 8:21

The eighth chapter of Luke's Gospel, which we have been reading during the last week, teaches about the authority and power of the Word of God. The parable of the good ground (Lk 8:4-15) teaches that the Word of God will bear an abundant harvest in an open heart which submits to its authority and receives its power. Those who devote themselves to studying the Scriptures receiving the life-changing power of the Word of God, and obeying the Word will receive ever more power (Lk 8:18). They will even be received as members of God's family (Lk 8:21). God's Word has authority over the forces of nature (Lk 8:24-25), evil (Lk 8:32ff), disease (Lk 8:43-48), and even death (Lk 8:54-55).

Therefore, since God's Word has such authority and such awesome power, we should "hear the word of God and act upon it" (Lk 8:21). We should "walk in the law of the Lord" (Ps 119:1), cling to the Word (Ps 119:31), and make the Word of God our joy and our happiness (Jer 15:16).

God gave to Jesus, the Living Word (Heb 4:12), "full authority...in heaven and on earth" (Mt 28:18). Each day, make your home in the Word of God (Jn 8:31) and live under its authority and power.

Prayer: Father, be it done unto me according to Your Word.

Promise: "Happy are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord." -Ps 119:1

Praise: The doctors told Joan she would not be able to have children. She put her trust in the Lord and conceived a miracle child.

CLEAR LOVE OR PUZZLING LOVE? - One Bread, One Body, 9/24/2018

CLEAR LOVE OR PUZZLING LOVE?

"When He is dealing with the arrogant, He is stern, but to the humble He shows kindness." -Proverbs 3:34

God is perfect, crucified, unconditional, and infinite Love. He wants to lavish His love on us in ways we would appreciate. However, His love is always given to lead us to salvation and sanctification. Thus, many times the Lord expresses His love in ways difficult for us to understand. For example, if we are proud, the Lord will be stern to us to challenge the pride which endangers our salvation (Prv 3:34; 1 Pt 5:5). Also, the Lord often wishes to bathe us in light when we hear His Word. Moreover, the Lord wishes to answer all our petitions as requested. But because of our sinfulness and selfishness, we often ask wrongly (Jas 4:3). Then the Lord shows His love by answering our prayers in ways which puzzle us but can contribute to our salvation and sanctification.

The Lord is very lavish in doing miracles, healings, and deliverances, but He doesn't want anyone to conclude that anything other than the cross is the essence of life in Christ. The Lord has even delayed His final coming for the sake of the salvation of as many people as possible (see 2 Pt 3:9, 15).

Repent, give your life totally to Jesus, and seek holiness. Then God's love will be very clear to you.

Prayer: Father, mold me into the image of Your Son.

Promise: "There is nothing hidden that will not be exposed, nothing concealed that will not be known and brought to light." -Lk 8:17

Praise: For over twenty years, Donna prayed for her alcoholic husband. God broke through in his life and led him to sobriety.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday PLEASURE SEEKING OR TREASURE SEEKING
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/23/2018

"You ask and you do not receive because you ask wrongly, with a view to squandering what you receive
on your pleasures." -James 4:3

Human history provides ample testimony about the effects of pleasure seeking. One pleasure is never
enough. People always want the next pleasure, followed by another. Companies thrive by stoking the
pleasure-seeking desires of masses of consumers. Left to our own desires, we become slaves of
pleasure-seeking, servants of the cravings of our own flesh (see Rm 6:12).

I challenge you to spend the next ten seconds looking at a crucifix. As you gaze on Jesus' crucified
body, ask yourself these questions: "What if Jesus chose to pursue earthly pleasure as often as I do?
What if He chose not to suffer and die for me?"

Then ask Jesus to break the chains of your fleshly desires. "Already you have devoted enough time" on
your pleasures (1 Pt 4:3). Now devote the rest of your time on earth to seeking God's pleasure.
Through the cross, be crucified to the world (Gal 6:14). When you are crucified to your own desires,
you are then empty enough to receive God's desires. Then you are ready to receive God's abundant
life, joy, peace, love, and the gifts of the Spirit. Repent of following your desires. Seek the
lasting pleasures of God rather than the momentary pleasures of this world.

Prayer: Father, send me the Holy Spirit to fight against my flesh (Gal 5:17). Cleanse my heart
(Jn 2:15) of useless desires.

Promise: "Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to His own words, God will take care
of him." -Wis 2:20

Praise: Praise Jesus, risen Lord and Intercessor, Who is "always able to save those who approach God
through Him" (Heb 7:25).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

WATER AND CARE OF CREATION

FOLLOWING JESUS

Jesus ... promised a water capable of quenching human thirst for ever. He prophesied, "If any one
thirst, let him come to Me and drink (Jn 7:37). To drink from Jesus means to encounter Him
personally as the Lord, drawing from His words the meaning of life. May the words He spoke from
the cross - "I thirst" (Jn 19:28) - echo constantly in our hearts.

JESUS THIRSTS

The Lord continues to ask that His thirst be quenched; He thirsts for love. He asks us to give Him
to drink in all those who thirst in our own day... To give to drink in the global village, does not
only entail personal gestures of charity, but also concrete choices and a constant commitment to
ensure to all the primary good of water.

LITTERED SEAS

We cannot allow our seas and oceans to be littered by endless fields of floating plastic... Our
active commitment is needed to confront this emergency. We need to pray as if everything depended on
God's providence, and work as if everything depended on us.

THE MIRACLE OF A HUNDREDFOLD

"But some fell on good soil, grew up, and yielded grain a hundredfold." -Luke 8:8

The Lord promises we can receive His Word to bear fruit a hundredfold. This is like saying $1,000 will turn into $100,000 which is an astronomical increase. Most Christians believe God's Word will help, bless, teach, and even heal them, but few expect the hundredfold harvest.

If we took seriously the Lord's promise of a hundredfold, we would do our very best to:

* tremble in prayer as we open the Bible,
* kiss the Bible before opening it,
* never miss our daily Bible reading,
* go to Mass more often than Sunday,
* daily read the Bible with our children and spouse, and
* encourage our children to seriously consider a lifetime ministry of preaching or teaching God's Word.

When we expect the hundredfold harvest of God's Word, our entire lives are transformed. We receive His Word not as the word of man but of God (1 Thes 2:13), "humbly welcome" it (Jas 1:21), and "act on this word" (Jas 1:22).

Prayer: Lord, may Your Word burn in my heart (Lk 24:32).

Promise: "Just as we resemble the man from earth, so shall we bear the likeness of the Man from heaven." -1 Cor 15:49

Praise: By facilitating Life in the Spirit Seminars, Barbara has helped hundreds to new spiritual life.

CONVERSION-CONVERSATIONS

Jesus "said to him, "Follow Me.' Matthew got up and followed Him." -Matthew 9:9

When Matthew met Jesus, he repented of selling out to the world, immediately walked away from his job, and became a disciple of Jesus. Because Matthew was so in love with Jesus, he invited many tax collectors and other sinners to meet Jesus (Mt 9:10). Matthew was so thankful for Jesus having mercy on him, he would have thought it merciless if he had not invited others to meet Jesus.

Matthew, the first of the Gospel evangelists, shows us that the essence of life in Christ is radical conversion, immediate evangelization, and abundant mercy. When we throw ourselves on the mercy of God, He transforms us so deeply that we feel compelled to share the greatest of all good news, that is, God's saving mercy.

If we are converted, we are merciful. If we are merciful, we are zealous for evangelization. Are you converted? Are you acting accordingly?

Prayer: Father, convert me by your standards.

Promise: "I plead with you, then, as a prisoner for the Lord, to live a life worthy of the calling you have received." -Eph 4:1

THE LIFE OF MIRACLES

"I handed on to you first of all what I myself received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures; that He was buried and, in accordance with the Scriptures, rose on the third day." -1 Corinthians 15:3-4

A miracle is an act of God which goes beyond the laws of nature. Christianity began with the miracle of the Incarnation, God becoming man. The essence of Christianity is Jesus' death on the cross when He took away the sins of everyone who has lived or will ever live. He gave everyone the opportunity to be begotten from above (Jn 3:3, 5) and receive a new nature, sharing in the divine nature (2 Pt 1:4). Jesus' resurrection from the dead is the miracle that definitively establishes Jesus' divinity, which is the basis of the Christian faith. Jesus did many miracles in His public ministry and gave His Church and her members the authority and power to do greater works than He did (Jn 14:12).

If we live and die in Christ, we will at death receive the miracle of the resurrection from the dead. The world will end with the ultimate miracle of Jesus' final coming. Then, after Judgment Day, the holy ones will have the miracle of the resurrection of the body. Going to heaven and seeing Jesus face to face will be miraculous. From beginning to end, Christianity is a series of miracles. Therefore, strengthen your faith. Protect it from our secular humanistic culture, which tends to deny miracles and is extremely toxic to our faith.

Prayer: Lord, strengthen my faith through Your Word (see Rm 10:17).

Promise: "Her many sins are forgiven - because of her great love. Little is forgiven the one whose love is small." -Lk 7:47

Praise: St. Andrew's father was martyred for being a Christian. Years later, Andrew was likewise martyred.

WHO'S WHO IN CHRIST'S BODY

"The body is one and has many members, but all the members, many though they are, are one body; and so it is with Christ." -1 Corinthians 12:12

If you were on a football team, would you know what position you played? If you work in a company, do you know your job? If you are baptized, you are a member of the body of Christ (see 1 Cor 12:27). Do you know what part of the body you are? Are you an apostle, prophet, teacher, miracle worker, healer, assistant, administrator, one who speaks in tongues, or one who interprets tongues? (1 Cor 12:28-30) There are many other gifts, ministries, and works in the body of Christ (see 1 Cor 12:4-10). Do you know which part you are?

To know each of our parts, we must pray. Usually it is also necessary that we learn what the Lord has taught us through His Church about vocations, charisms, and ministries. We must also obey the Lord to live our vocations to the full and use our charisms fully.

When all know their position on the team, their job in the company, and their part in Christ's body, then the Lord can "call a play," and we will be able to execute it well because we know each person's part. Find yourself; know yourself; love yourself; be yourself.

Prayer: Father, I will get off the bench and quit aimlessly wandering around the playing field. I will take my position and do Your will.

Promise: "The dead man sat up and began to speak. Then Jesus gave him back to his mother." -Lk 7:15

Praise: Audrey, a school teacher, begins each day by thanking God for her job, praying for each of her students, and asking for the grace to be the best teacher she can be.

THE FOOD OF UNITY

"Do this in remembrance of Me." -1 Corinthians 11:24

The early Church met in homes for the first several centuries of its existence. The liturgical form of the Mass was still evolving. Thus, the admonitions St. Paul mentions in today's first reading may sound foreign to our ears (1 Cor 11:20-22). There was some fellowship and hospitality in the homes in addition to the Mass. Some people overindulged while others went hungry.

Decades ago, I attended a retreat which illustrated the scenario mentioned in today's first reading very nicely. The retreat closed with a common meal in which everyone ate together in a large dining room. The food would be distributed in the same proportions as the population of the world would eat that evening. A few people were given a full steak and shrimp dinner with wine. Several others were served a meal of hamburger, potatoes, and milk. The other 75% of the retreatants were served a meager bowl of beans and rice with water to drink. All were instructed to eat together at the same large table. No one could share food or drink. Those with a plentiful meal commented afterward how much they wished they could share their food with those who had little. The message was one of unity and to live simply so that others could simply live.

The Church no longer serves any food at Mass except the Eucharist, the food of unity. Unity was St. Paul's objective, and is also that of Jesus (see Jn 17:21). We call the Eucharist "Communion," a word which can mean "Common Unity." Let us go to Mass in remembrance of Jesus, and not of our own desires.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, Source of Unity (Eph 4:3), may everything we do, whether we eat or drink (1 Cor 10:31), be done to gather together into one the dispersed children of God (Jn 11:52).

Promise: "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me." -1 Cor 11:25

Praise: St. Robert sought unity both with and within the Church. His students became missionaries and martyrs.

PM eNewsletter 24th Sunday in ordinary time

September 16th 24th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the feast of
an apostle who lived the good life till You called him.

Then he lived the great life of knowing You.

St. Matthew was a tax collector and enjoyed the
pleasure of a big house, and lots of friends.

But, You, Jesus called him and he gave it all away.

Please Lord, give us the true understanding, that only
in knowing You, will we ever find the real meaning of life.

Let us see that all the things of this world will pass
away, but being with You will never pass away.

You Christ are the way and truth of life.

Thank You for your love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday JUST YOU
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/16/2018

"Whoever would preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the
gospel's will preserve it." -Mark 8:35

Jesus' first question to His disciples was not "Who do you say that I am?" (Mk 8:29) Jesus felt
compelled to introduce the big question with another question: "Who do people say that I am?"
(Mk 8:27) He intentionally set up the contrast between what others say and what we individually say.

When we give our lives to Jesus, we make a personal, individual decision. The saying goes: "God has
no grandchildren." That means we are all called to relate to Him directly and not "once removed." We
can't live on what our fathers, mothers, pastors, or teachers told us. We must know Jesus personally,
not just know about Him. We have to stand on our own faith, not on anyone else's.

As individuals, "we shall all have to appear before the judgment seat of God" (Rm 14:10). It won't
matter if we're better or worse. God does not compare His children. Each of us lives, dies, and is
judged on the basis of his or her individual response to God's grace. Jesus' question remains: "Who
do you say that I am?"

Prayer: Jesus, I repent of my sins. Forgive me, come into my heart, take over my life. Fill me with
Your Spirit. You are my Lord.

Promise: "Morning after morning He opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not
turned back." -Is 50:4-5

Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, God of forgiveness, mercy, and love.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-09.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

WATER AND CARE OF CREATION

SIMPLE AND PRECIOUS

... Water ... is a very simple and precious element, yet access to it is, sadly, for many people
difficult if not impossible. Nonetheless, "access to safe drinkable water is a basic and universal
human right, since it is essential to human survival and ... is a condition for the exercise of other
human rights. Our world owes a great social debt towards the poor who lack access to drinking water,
because they are denied the right to a life consistent with their inalienable dignity"
(Laudato Si', 30).

"SISTER WATER"

... I feel the need to give thanks to God for "Sister Water", simple and useful for life like nothing
else on our planet. Precisely for this reason, care for water sources and water basins is an urgent
imperative... We urgently need shared projects and concrete gestures that recognize that every
privatization of the natural good of water , at the expense of the human right to have access to this
good, is unacceptable.

PURIFICATION AND LIFE

For us Christians, water represents an essential element of purification and of life.
