“THE PATH TO PEACE” (Lk 19:42) - One Bread,=?utf-8?Q?_One_Body,_11/19/2020?=

"THE PATH TO PEACE" (Lk 19:42)
"You failed to recognize the time of your visitation." —Luke 19:44

King Jesus visited the people of Jerusalem. They refused to accept Him as King and wouldn’t rest until He was nailed to a cross. Refusing to accept Jesus as King had disastrous consequences. They could have had peace had they accepted Jesus (Lk 19:42). Instead, in 70 A.D., they were surrounded by their enemies, the Romans, and Jerusalem was completely destroyed (see Lk 19:43-44).

In today’s psalm, the people do recognize the visitation of their King, the Messiah. “The children of Zion rejoice in their King” (Ps 149:2). They praise Him and dance in festive celebration (Ps 149:3). Instead of being surrounded by their enemies, they bind their enemies in chains, wiping them out (Ps 149:6-9).

Our enemy is Satan and his kingdom of darkness (Eph 6:12). He has surrounded us with his culture of death. He has wreaked havoc upon us, wiping out many millions of babies in the womb, inundating us with rampant perversion and impurity, eliminating prayer from schools, workplaces, and often churches, etc. The psalmist proclaims that victory over our wicked enemy lies in openly welcoming Jesus as King. Are we in this predicament because we have failed to recognize Jesus as our King?

In three days, the Church celebrates the great feast of Christ the King. In five weeks, we celebrate Jesus’ Christmas coming. King Jesus is coming. What kind of reception will we give Him?

Prayer: Jesus, Lion of Judah, I ask You to roar through me.

Promise: "The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has won the right by His victory to open the scroll." —Rv 5:5

Praise: Tom and Darlene display a plaque in their home that reads, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (see Jos 24:15).

YOU MAKE ME SICK!
"Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spew you out of My mouth!" —Revelation 3:16

Jesus said that the lukewarm Christians of Laodicea made Him feel like vomiting. Then He knocked at their door and wanted to have supper with them (Rv 3:20). Isn’t it contradictory to want to have supper with people who make you sick? Yet Jesus loves us so much that He is willing to be sick, to suffer, and to die so as to share His life with us.

Zacchaeus, the little tax collector, was another sickening person. Tax collectors, because of their complicity with the oppressive Roman government, made Jews sick. The Jews didn’t vomit, but they would sometimes spit at the tax collectors. Jesus also was repulsed by the sins of Zacchaeus and by the thought of having to atone for them on Calvary. However, Jesus reached out to Zacchaeus, invited Himself to share supper, and brought salvation to Zacchaeus’ house (Lk 19:5, 9).

We have been or are sickening in our sins. Even when we can’t stand ourselves, Jesus is knocking at the door. Open up to Him.

Prayer: Jesus, come into my life this very hour.

Promise: "I will never erase his name from the book of the living, but will acknowledge him in the presence of My Father and His angels." —Rv 3:5

Praise: St. Elizabeth never let her royal bloodline get in the way of serving the poor. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, a contemporary, she founded a hospital in his honor. She is the patron of Catholic charities and the secular Franciscan Order.

BELIEVING IS SEEING
"At that very moment he was given his sight and began to follow Him." —Luke 18:43

Jesus’ healing of the blind beggar of Jericho is preceded by the young rich man’s rejection of Jesus and followed by Zacchaeus’ acceptance of Him. Jesus healed not only the physically blind but also those spiritually blinded by the god of the present age, the god of greed and a pleasure-seeking lifestyle (2 Cor 4:4). The love of money is the root of all evil, including spiritual blindness (1 Tm 6:10).

For example, the Pharisees were “blind guides” and “blind fools” (Mt 23:16-17) because they “were avaricious men” (Lk 16:14). We can act like the young rich man, refuse to let Jesus heal us of our blindness, and walk away sad (Mk 10:22). On the other hand, we can be like Zacchaeus. Jesus will open our eyes and our hearts. We will give generously to the poor (Lk 19:8).

On the day we are healed of spiritual blindness, salvation will have truly come to our house (Lk 19:9). Even if you’re blind to being blind, by faith draw close to Jesus today and pray: “Lord, I want to see” (see Lk 18:41). Jesus will answer: “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you” (Lk 18:42).

Prayer: Lord, I want to see today, no matter what.

Promise: "Happy is the man who reads this prophetic message, and happy are those who hear it and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near!" —Rv 1:3

Praise: "Happy is the man who reads this prophetic message, and happy are those who hear it and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near!" —Rv 1:3

PM eNewsletter 33rd Sunday in ordinary time

November 15th 33rd Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the "Presentation of Mary".

Let us see in this feast that Your plan of our redemption was unfolding in a very simple yet concise way.

Mary, our mother, the "new ark of the covenant" was brought to God so as to be sealed in His love.

Mary, our mother, was always and still is, full of grace, and her intercession is very powerful, for all
of us.

We have a loving, caring mother who loves us and prays for us all.

Jesus, give us the grace to realize Your love, and the means we can use to get the help we need to reach
Your kingdom in heaven, some day, thank You Jesus.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday GEE, THANKS...
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-11-15-en

"I will put you in charge of larger affairs." -Matthew 25:21

When Jesus asks for an account of your service, you tell Him: "Lord, I've given everything I have to serve
You for years. I've gone without sleep, had more children in obedience to You, completed spiritual projects
no one but You cared about, been persecuted and ridiculed for You. I've fed Your sheep spiritually and
physically for years (see Jn 21:15). It's all because I love You."

The first words Jesus says are music to your ears: "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Mt 25:23, RSV-CE).
Then Jesus says to you: "I will put you in charge of larger affairs" (Mt 25:23). If you're like me, you think:
"Oh. Uh, thanks, Jesus. By the way, Lord, have You noticed how busy I am for Your sake - or that I'm getting
older and have less energy - or that my kids need more of my time?" But Jesus ignores the halfhearted response
and exclaims: "Come, share your Master's joy!" (Mt 25:23)

Most politicians are thrilled to be put "in charge of larger affairs." We Christians, however, often shrink
from more daunting responsibilities. When disciples of Christ don't accept larger responsibilities, we hand
them over to the worldly. For example, groups such as Planned Parenthood will gladly take charge of Congress
and the White House if we Christians don't want Jesus to burden us with more leadership (see Jgs 9:8-15). How
many babies continue to die through chemical and surgical abortions as a result?

Let's respond to Jesus' command by looking at the "joy" on His face (Mt 25:23). If Jesus finds joy in putting
us in charge of larger affairs, then so must we. Dare to be great for Jesus.

Prayer: "Father in heaven...Your kingdom come" (Mt 6:9, 10). "To do Your will, O my God, is my delight"
(Ps 40:9).

Promise: "You are children of light and of the day." -1 Thes 5:5

Praise: "The Father loves Me for this: that I lay down My life to take it up again" (Jn 10:17). Thank You,
Lord Jesus!

HEART-TO-HEART TALK
Jesus "told them a parable on the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." —Luke 18:1

Have you lost heart in any prayer? What if you’ve prayed for a long time to be healed? Do you still truly expect to be healed or have you lost heart? Do you expect the end to abortion? Do you still believe or have you lost heart? (see Ps 13:2)

Sometimes the longer we pray, the less we believe. The Lord assures us that, if a widow can get her rights from an unwilling judge (Lk 18:5), how much more will our prayers be answered by our heavenly Father Who gave His Son for us, adopted us, and loves us unconditionally, much more than we love ourselves? “Is it possible that He Who did not spare His own Son but handed Him over for the sake of us all will not grant us all things besides?” (Rm 8:32)

Because of the Lord’s proven, crucified love, we can be positive that all prayer is answered either as we request or with something better. “Will not God then do justice to His chosen who call out to Him day and night? Will He delay long over them, do you suppose? I tell you, He will give them swift justice” (Lk 18:7-8). The Lord wants us to take heart and not lose heart, for His heart is open, pierced, broken, bleeding, and on fire for love of us.

Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me. I love You.

Promise: "Therefore, we owe it to such men to support them and thus to have our share in the work of truth." —3 Jn 8

Praise: Paul always tends to the people who come his way. He refers to them as "those who fall into my net."

(To restore your heart for prayer, read the Bible everyday. To assist, we have three audio series available at our website for listening: Overview of the Bible, 15 Minute Bible Teaching - New Testament, An Introduction to Each Book of the Bible. Each series is also available as CD sets.)

THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED - One Bread, One Body, 11/13/2020

Friday, November 13, 2020, Friday, November 13, 2020

2 John 4-9
Psalm 119:1-2, 10-11, 17-18
Luke 17:26-37

THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED
"Whoever tries to preserve his life will lose it; whoever loses it will keep it." —Luke 17:33

At the very end of the world, two people will be “in one bed; one will be taken and the other left” (Lk 17:34). Two women will be working together; “one will be taken and the other left” (Lk 17:35). What determines whether a person is taken to meet Jesus or left for destruction?

Jesus answered: “Wherever the carcass is, there will the vultures gather” (Lk 17:37). A carcass is a dead body. Thus Jesus is saying that, where there is death, there the vultures of the end-time destruction will gather. He is referring to the spiritual death due to sin (see Rm 6:23). So those repentant of their sins will fly away, and those left behind are earthbound because of the weight of their unrepented sins.

To escape the end times, we must be living bodies, not dead carcasses. We should be pro-life in the fullest sense of the word. We must not only be against abortion but against sins of violence, hatred, racism, unforgiveness, injustice, and pornography. The death at the world’s end will only destroy those already among the living dead (1 Jn 3:14). At the world’s end, the spiritually dead will be destroyed physically, and the spiritually alive will meet Jesus (1 Thes 4:17).

Prayer: Father, "subject us not to the trial but deliver us from the evil one" (Mt 6:13).

Promise: "Anyone who is so 'progressive' that he does not remain rooted in the teaching of Christ does not possess God, while anyone who remains rooted in the teaching possesses both the Father and the Son." —2 Jn 9

Praise: Mother Cabrini has become a symbol of care for the immigrant. Born in Italy, she came to the United States in 1889. She helped educate and catechize countless Italian Americans. She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized.

BLOOD BROTHER - One Bread, One Body, 11/12/2020

Thursday, November 12, 2020, St. Josaphat

Psalm 146:7-10
Luke 17:20-25

BLOOD BROTHER
"Perhaps he was separated from you for a while for this reason: that you might possess him forever, no longer as a slave but as more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially dear to me; and how much more to you, since now you will know him both as a man and in the Lord." —Philemon 15-16

St. Paul tried to undermine the institution of slavery not by politics or legislation but by winning over individual Christians to the brotherhood and sisterhood of community life. By converting the slave Onesimus, Paul thereby made the slave a brother to the slave-owner Philemon (Phlm 16).

St. Francis used this method in stopping the city-state wars of his time. The Franciscan sense of brotherhood subverted the entrenched European military system. The amazing, non-violent overthrow of the Marcos regime in the Philippines was also an example of brotherhood over violence.

If we realized we are brothers and sisters, abortion, racism, and apathy would lose their hold on us.  One day, our faith would lead us to transform our weapons into implements to feed the poor (see Is 2:4).  We would refuse to perpetrate social injustices against the third world and the poor workers.

A good legal system can partially hold in check the evils of our society, but permanent change must take place in the hearts of individuals. The Spirit teaches us that we are one body, and “if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members share its joy” (1 Cor 12:26).

Prayer: Father, send Your Spirit to raise up peacemakers, prayer-warriors, and conscientious objectors. May Christian unity overshadow nationalism, economic status, social classes, and denominationalism.

Promise: "The Son of Man in His day will be like the lightning that flashes from one end of the sky to the other." —Lk 17:24

Praise: St. Josaphat is a symbol of the glory and challenges of the universal Church. Born into the Eastern Orthodox Church, he became a martyr promoting unity with Rome.

HAVE YOU THANKED YOUR CHURCH LATELY? - One Bread, One Body,11/11/2020

HAVE YOU THANKED YOUR CHURCH LATELY?
"This Spirit He lavished on us through Jesus Christ our Savior, that we might be justified by His grace." ––Titus 3:6-7

Justification is a word often thrown around in today’s climate of denominationalism.  Different Christian faith traditions have chimed in with competing definitions, causing confusion.

Where can we find a brief and clear statement of the doctrine of justification?  Notice what St. Paul wrote to his protégé, St. Titus: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us; not because of any righteous deeds we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the baptism of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.  This Spirit He lavished on us through Jesus Christ our Savior, that we might be justified by His grace and become heirs, in hope, of eternal life” (Ti 3:4-7).

The Catholic Church helps us navigate choppy waters. In fact, a boat is a common metaphor for Holy Mother Church. As Catholics, we are not drowning in theological uncertainty. We lean on Scripture, sacred Tradition and the teaching authority of the Church. So fear not! (Jn 12:15)

Baptism is the foundation of our justification before God.   “This sacrament is also called ‘the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit,’ for it signifies and actually brings about the birth of water and the Spirit” (Catechism, 1215).

God’s grace instills in us the virtue of hope.  Thus, we are “placing our trust in Christ’s promises and relying not on our own strength” to be justified (Catechism, 1817).

“The just demands of the law” are “fulfilled in us who live, not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (see Rm 8:4).  The Spirit empowers us to love God and love neighbor. Are you receptive to grace?  Be reconciled with God.  Be justified!

Prayer: Father, I'm Your child. Speak to me through Your Church.

Promise: "He guides me in right paths." ––Psalm 23:3

Praise: St. Martin was baptized shortly before being discharged from military service, and became a disciple of St. Hilary.

PASTOR-IZED - One Bread, One Body, 11/10/2020

Titus 2:1-8, 11-14
Psalm 37:3-4, 18, 23, 27, 29

PASTOR-IZED
"The grace of God has appeared, offering salvation to all men. It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires, and live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age." —Titus 2:11-12

St. Paul gave St. Titus the responsibility of giving orders to the old and young men. Titus should “tell the older men that they must be temperate, serious-minded, and self-controlled; likewise sound in the faith, loving, and steadfast” (Ti 2:2). He should “tell the young men to keep themselves completely under control,” while he himself was to set a good example for them (Ti 2:6-7). Titus was not told to give orders to the women. The husbands had responsibility to lead their wives, and the older women were to teach the younger women by their example (Ti 2:3-5).

In this arrangement, three relationships are key: between the pastor and the men, the husband and wife, and the older and younger women. Churches or communities that fail to foster these three relationships may be ineffective in shepherding the sheep. We see overworked pastors, inactive men, turbulent marriages, and a cliquish sisterhood. The sheep are not being nourished, protected, and healed; instead they are being snatched up by the wolves of the world (see Jn 10:12).

If we truly love Jesus, the Good Shepherd, we will make tending the sheep a high priority (Jn 21:16), search God’s Word for pastoral patterns, and alter our relationships and lifestyle to maximize the care for the sheep. The whole flock must make decisions and sacrifices to be shepherded rightly. Will we be “good” shepherds and sheep or be hirelings sold to the world?

Prayer: Father, may our churches become communities which feed, guide, and heal their members.

Promise: "Trust in the Lord and do good, that you may dwell in the land and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord, and He will grant you your heart's requests." —Ps 37:3-4

Praise: Pope St. Leo the Great was one of the best administrators of the ancient church. He also led the defense of Rome against barbarian attackers.

A SURE FOUNDATION
"Everyone, however, must be careful how he builds." —1 Corinthians 3:10

As of 324 A.D., the Lateran Basilica in Rome is the Pope’s own Cathedral Church. This basilica is the mother church of the entire Christian world. Yet today’s Mass readings don’t simply talk of stone and mortar; they also talk about the Church not made by human hands, the temple of Jesus’ Body (Jn 2:21). Each day, this temple, the Church, is being built upon the sure foundation, Jesus the Christ (1 Cor 3:10-11), and the Rock of St. Peter upon which Christ has built His Church (Mt 16:16-18).

We gather as the Church, in the Church, knowing that the dwelling of God is within us as the Body of Christ. This is a shadow and a model of the heavenly city of God in heaven, the New Jerusalem. The Temple in Jerusalem stands no more. One day, the Lateran Basilica will no longer be standing (Mt 5:18). But God’s temple in us, the Body of Christ, will last forever, because it is God’s dwelling (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 756).

Let us allow God to build on us and through us. Let us allow Him to make us loving, firm, and strong living stones for the new Temple, the Dwelling Place of the Almighty.

Prayer: Father, I love being a member of the Body of Christ. Strengthen Your Church by strengthening me.

Promise: "Are you not aware that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" —1 Cor 3:16

PM eNewsletter 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

November 8th 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

Oh! Christ, sometimes we get so busy in life that we forget to pray unless there is an emergency.

Please Lord, give us the grace to set aside a time everday to go to our prayer room and give You praise
and glory.

Let us be intercessors for others, and realize all the good we could do for them, through You, by our
prayers.

Let us see that all people are our brothers and sisters, and that we have an obligation to pray for them.

Let us also pray the news so that those who do harm to others will be saved through our intercessions
and Your love.

Thank You, Jesus, for making us part of Your glorious plan.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday MARANATHA
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-11-8-en

"The Lord Himself will come down from heaven at the word of command, at the sound of the archangel's voice
and God's trumpet." -1 Thessalonians 4:16

Jesus is coming soon. No one knows the day or the hour (Mt 25:13). In that case, the only practical thing
is to be always ready and keep our eyes open (Mt 25:13). When Jesus comes again for the final time, "those
who have died in Christ will rise first" (1 Thes 4:16). If you live near a cemetery, that will be a sight
to behold! "Then we, the living, the survivors, will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord
in the air. Thenceforth we shall be with the Lord unceasingly" (1 Thes 4:17). Even though this awesome
event is in the future, right now we can "console one another with this message" (1 Thes 4:18).

For those mourning, the Good News of Jesus' coming and our bodies' resurrection will keep them from
yielding "to grief, like those who have no hope" (1 Thes 4:13). Knowing He is coming will keep us working
for His kingdom, dispensing the ration of grain in due time (Lk 12:42). Because of Jesus' "appearing and
His kingly power," we will stay with the "task whether convenient or inconvenient" (2 Tm 4:1-2). We will
"not absent ourselves from the assembly, as some do, but encourage one another; and this all the more
because you see that the Day draws near" (Heb 10:25). Jesus' future coming transforms the present by
motivating us to love Him and live for Him to the full.

Prayer: Jesus, may I hasten the day of Your coming by repentance, intercession, and evangelization (2 Pt 3:12).

Promise: "Resplendent and unfailing is Wisdom, and she is readily perceived by those who love her." -Wis 6:12

Praise: "For a sun and a shield is the Lord God; grace and glory He bestows; The Lord withholds no good
thing from those who walk in sincerity" (Ps 84:12). Praise the risen Jesus!

MARANATHA
"The Lord Himself will come down from heaven at the word of command, at the sound of the archangel's voice and God's trumpet." —1 Thessalonians 4:16

Jesus is coming soon. No one knows the day or the hour (Mt 25:13). In that case, the only practical thing is to be always ready and keep our eyes open (Mt 25:13). When Jesus comes again for the final time, “those who have died in Christ will rise first” (1 Thes 4:16). If you live near a cemetery, that will be a sight to behold! “Then we, the living, the survivors, will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thenceforth we shall be with the Lord unceasingly” (1 Thes 4:17). Even though this awesome event is in the future, right now we can “console one another with this message” (1 Thes 4:18).

For those mourning, the Good News of Jesus’ coming and our bodies’ resurrection will keep them from yielding “to grief, like those who have no hope” (1 Thes 4:13). Knowing He is coming will keep us working for His kingdom, dispensing the ration of grain in due time (Lk 12:42). Because of Jesus’ “appearing and His kingly power,” we will stay with the “task whether convenient or inconvenient” (2 Tm 4:1-2). We will “not absent ourselves from the assembly, as some do, but encourage one another; and this all the more because you see that the Day draws near” (Heb 10:25). Jesus’ future coming transforms the present by motivating us to love Him and live for Him to the full.

Prayer: Jesus, may I hasten the day of Your coming by repentance, intercession, and evangelization (2 Pt 3:12).

Promise: "Resplendent and unfailing is Wisdom, and she is readily perceived by those who love her." —Wis 6:12

Praise: "For a sun and a shield is the Lord God; grace and glory He bestows; The Lord withholds no good thing from those who walk in sincerity" (Ps 84:12). Praise the risen Jesus!

BAD WORKING CONDITIONS
"At the start of my evangelizing, when I left Macedonia, not a single congregation except yourselves shared with me by giving me something for what it had received." —Philippians 4:15

We Christians are now working under exceptionally difficult circumstances. About one-third of the people conceived in the USA over the last twenty years have been killed by surgical abortion. Many more have been killed by abortifacient pills and devices. This means far fewer workers are available for God’s harvest. Moreover, many Christians remain immature. They cannot be entrusted with greater responsibilities in God’s work because they have not been faithful in managing the money and possessions the Lord has given them (Lk 16:10-11). Also, some leaders in the Church are avaricious like the Pharisees (Lk 16:14). All this makes it that much harder to do God’s work. Workers for the Lord often receive little support personally, financially, emotionally, and practically. That’s why some of God’s workers repeatedly consider quitting.

However, the good news is that by God’s grace we can cope with every circumstance (Phil 4:12). In Jesus, we have strength for everything (Phil 4:13); despite the difficulties, the Lord “will supply [our] needs fully” (Phil 4:19). Though temporarily frustrated and often unsupported, we keep working for the Lord. It is a privilege to work for Him, even under the worst circumstances. “He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him by your service, past and present, to His holy people” (Heb 6:10). Therefore, take courage and continue to work for the Lord (see Hg 2:4).

Prayer: Father, may I work for You with my whole being (Col 3:23).

Promise: "God reads your hearts. What man thinks important, God holds in contempt." —Lk 16:15

Praise: Every day, Dennis prays for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
