BACK LOT

"Lot's wife looked back." -Genesis 19:26

The angels told Lot and his family to flee from Sodom and Gomorrah and not look back (Gn 19:17). "But Lot's wife looked back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt" (Gn 19:26). Jesus said: "Remember Lot's wife. Whoever tries to preserve his life will lose it; whoever loses it will keep it" (Lk 17:32-33).
By becoming Christians, we have left behind the polluted world (see 2 Pt 2:20) of Sodom and Gomorrah. We have "put on the Lord Jesus Christ" and made "no provision for the desires of the flesh" (Rm 13:14). We are tempted to go back to our old life and be "caught up and overcome in pollution once more" (2 Pt 2:20). However, we should not go back or even look back to those things we left behind when we became disciples of Jesus. "Whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God" (Lk 9:62). We must "give no thought to what lies behind but push on to what is ahead" (Phil 3:13). "Remember Lot's wife" (Lk 17:32) "and the tomb of a disbelieving soul, a standing pillar of salt" (Wis 10:7).

Prayer: Father, I rejoice to give all for love of You.

Promise: " 'What sort of Man is this,' they said, 'that even the winds and the sea obey Him?' " -Mt 8:27

Praise: The First Martyrs of Rome have healed countless others through their lives and deaths. They came from all classes of Roman society - soldiers, peasants, nobility, and merchants.

THE TODAY SHOW - One Bread, One Body, 6/29/2015

Read our booklet entitled "Speak the Truth in Love." Contrary to the old saying, "What we don't know will definitely hurt us," we perish for lack of knowledge of God and the things of God. In this book, we proclaim the truth in areas where our lack of knowledge has hurt us badly.

THE TODAY SHOW

"From now on a merited crown awaits me." -2 Timothy 4:8

In many countries, today's feast is a holy day of obligation, even when it doesn't fall on Sunday. This means that today's gathering of God's people is so important that it is often considered mandatory. Today is so special because:
* Peter was the Rock on which Jesus built His Church (Mt 16:18).
* Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles (Gal 2:7).
* Both Peter and Paul were martyrs.
* Both of these saints continue to be in communion with us by praying for us and ministering to us.

If God has His way, each of us and the whole Christian community will be different after today's community celebration. We will be more holy. Many Christians will be freed from the chains of sin, addiction, and fear (see Acts 12:6-7). Many evils will be bound, and many graces loosed (Mt 16:19). Thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions will give their lives to Jesus and receive salvation. Today, countless throngs throughout the world will receive the fullness of the Spirit. Of course, every day is a day of grace, but the Lord has chosen some days to be even more significant (see Sir 33:7-9). "This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it" (Ps 118:24). Alleluia!

Prayer: Father, when today I hear Your voice, may I harden not my heart (see Ps 95:7-8).

Promise: "The Lord will continue to rescue me from all attempts to do me harm and will bring me safe to His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen." -2 Tm 4:18

Praise: "The Holy Spirit descended upon all who were listening to Peter's message" (Acts 10:44).

(For a related teaching, order our tape The Church in God's Plan" on audio AV 67-3 or video V-67.)

PM eNewsletter 13th Sunday in ordinary time

June 28th Thirteenth Sunday in ordinary time

This week, oh Jesus, Your church celebrates St's. Peter and Paul.

The apostles that brought our church into existance through their
love and fidelity to You.

Their lives were not easy, but their love for You kept them to the
task of evangelizing the world, to bring it in, and under You.

Peter, Your first pope died by crucifixion, and Paul, Your evangelist,
died by execution.

Their blood formed the church that would worship You, and give
You all honor and glory.

Holy Spirit, lead us to true faith, that we may fully trust in You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday CONTAGIOUS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/28/2015

"Healing power had gone out from Him." -Mark 5:30

According to the Old Testament, you would become unclean if a
hemorrhaging person touched you (Lv 15:25-33). If you touched a dead
person, you would also become unclean (Nm 19:11ff). An unclean, defiling
power seemed to come forth from the bleeding or dead.

However, when Jesus was touched by or touched the unclean, an unclean
power did not defile Him. Instead, His healing, life-giving power went
out from Him and made the unclean clean. Unlike everyone else, Jesus is
contagious in the good sense.

For instance, if you put a healthy person in a room of sick people, do
all the sick people catch health or does the healthy person get sick? Do
live people visiting a cemetery raise the dead or eventually join the
dead? Sickness and death are contagious but health and life are not -
except in Jesus.

When Jesus entered this sick, dying world, millions of people caught
health and life. The evil effects of sin still spread like the plague,
but contagious grace far surpasses it (Rm 5:20). Live with Jesus; eat
His body and drink His blood (Jn 6:56); let Him touch you; catch
abundant life (Jn 10:10).

Prayer: Jesus, touch me and make me whole.

Promise: "Your plenty at the present time should supply their need so
that their surplus may one day supply your need, with equality as the
result." -2 Cor 8:14

Praise: Praise Jesus, Who is the Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25)
and Who has given us life everlasting! Those who believe in Him will
live forever (Jn 11:26). Alleluia!

PM Internet Prayer Requests
http://www.presentationministries.com/prayer/prayer.asp

Father, my heart is pounding out of my chest. I need You. For those
family members I'm denied to see...I lose a little more light from my
life each day. I dread the thought of how their mother talks badly
about us. We love them more than anything on this earth. I'm accused
of anything that ever went wrong. She has wrongly accused me of her
own sins she brought on herself. Everything is blamed on me. I now
think the one person that helped keep me in touch with them, and
allowed me to talk to them has taken sides against me even though I
in the past had helped her out in the same way. I defended her. I feel
betrayed. I pray I'm wrong. Father let me be wrong. Please let this
person make some communication with me. Please. I love You Father, In
Jesus name I pray, Amen
(Anonymous, , 6/27/2015 6:54:55 PM)

My friend has had a terrible past in which he has hurt terribly and in
the worst of ways. At this point in his life he is beyond suicidal and
has already tried to kill himself on more than one occasion. He asked
me as a last resort to try and bring him to Jesus but I honestly don't
know how to bring a person who has faced so many trials to our Lord. I
have absolutely no doubt that God has a plan for me and with Faith, He
will definitely save my friend's life, but right now I doubt that the
Lord has made the right decision in picking me to bring His light into
my friends life. I know that with Gods guidance I will introduce my
friend to Jesus, please pray that I may have the courage to do as God
instructs me, guides me and helps me to do today. Then please thank Him
for saving the life of another person here on earth.
(Marco, Manzella, Gauteng, South Africa, 6/27/2015 6:08:03 PM)

Heavenly father Thank you for all the Blessings, please guide us with
your Holy spirit as we go along with our work. Thank you Lord for the
answered prayer., Lord please help my son monchris to have a healthy
body and clear mind in everything he will do. we ask this through Christ
our Lord.Amen
(antang4, Philippines, 6/27/2015 4:04:14 PM)

I ask that others join me in praying for our nation as now the Supreme
court has legalized the "marriage " between same sex couples in every
state. May the Lord have mercy on these judges that gave into sin and
evilness. In God's eyes this means that human beings are ignoring His
plea to become holy and pure so I ask whole heartedly that through our
prayers, we may defeat the power of the evil one who wants many and
more souls for eternal damnation. Amen. St. Michael, the Archangel
defend us all from evil. Amen.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2015-05.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

HOLY YEAR OF MERCY

"JOYFUL CALL"

The time has come for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy once
more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and
struggles of our brothers and sisters. Mercy is the force that reawakens
us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with
hope.

"ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL"

It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her
message that she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her
gestures must transmit mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and
inspire them ... to find the road that leads to the Father.

THE FATHER'S MERCY

Merciful like the Father ... is the "motto" of this Holy Year. In mercy,
we find proof of how God loves us... Day after day, touched by His
compassion, we also can become compassionate towards others.

JOIN THE SERVICE

"My serving boy is at home in bed paralyzed." -Matthew 8:6

Jesus came not to be served but to serve (Mt 20:28). As followers of Jesus, we too come to serve others by providing both their physical and spiritual needs. Like Jesus, we wash the feet of others and commit ourselves to live and even die in love and service (Jn 13:5).
Nevertheless, many of us are out of action, that is, "out of service." Like Peter's mother-in-law and the centurion's serving boy, we are "in bed with a fever" (Mt 8:14) or "at home in bed paralyzed, suffering painfully" (Mt 8:6).
We need faith by which we let Jesus return us to service (see Mt 8:10ff). "Is anything too marvelous for the Lord to do?" (Gn 18:14) "Nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37). The Lord can take the worst sinners and most broken people and make them serviceable. In Christ and in faith, we are "in service" no matter what.
"The harvest is great; the workers are few" (Mt 9:37, our transl). St. Teresa of Avila said that God has no feet but our feet, no hands but our hands, no tongue but our tongues, etc. The Lord needs servants through which to serve. By faith, accept God's grace to "join the service."

Prayer: Father, by Your grace and by faith I will serve till death and beyond.

Promise: "It was our infirmities He bore, our sufferings He endured." -Mt 8:17

Praise: St. Cyril, a Doctor of the Church, had a profound grasp of the divinity of Jesus and defended this truth amid fierce opposition.

CHANGING NAMES

"God further said to Abraham: 'As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai; her name shall be Sarah. I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her." -Genesis 17:15-16

We all want certain things to change. The leper in today's Gospel reading wanted Jesus to heal him. Jesus touched him, and "immediately the man's leprosy disappeared" (Mt 8:3). Sometimes we want things to change not by disappearing but by appearing. For instance, Abram and Sarai wanted to have a child. We likewise want changes in our health, families, jobs, financial situations, churches, politics, and world.
The changes we desire are mostly exterior changes. However, interior change often precedes exterior change. Great interior change is expressed by a change of names. Abram's name was changed to Abraham, and Sarai's name to Sarah. Then they were miraculously able to conceive a child. We too often need a name-change before we can have changes in our health, jobs, families, etc.
Turn to Jesus. His name is above every other name (Phil 2:9). His name is the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). When Jesus changes our names, we are really changed inside and outside. Jesus changed Simon to Peter (Rock) and on this rock He built the Church (Mt 16:18). Jesus changed Saul to Paul and turned a murderous enemy of Christians into a Christian missionary. This change inside of Saul (Paul) resulted in the Gospel being proclaimed to the world. The name of the game is the change of the name.

Prayer: Father, may I fully live the new life expressed by my baptismal and confirmation names.

SIN-BITTEN

"So Sarai said to Abram: 'You are responsible for this outrage against me. I myself gave my maid to your embrace.' " -Genesis 16:5

Sarai regretted telling Abraham to have children through her maidservant, Hagar. We likewise regret some of the decisions we have made, and we should especially regret our sins.
When we regret our sins, we should not follow the example of Sarai and blame others (see Gn 16:5). Nor should we take out our regrets on others, as Sarai did to Hagar (Gn 16:6). Nevertheless, when we sin, we are inevitably tempted to commit more sins to express our frustration or to try to get ourselves out of the consequences of our first sin.
Sin is going to lead either to more sin or to repentance. In sin, we must repent as soon as possible before we commit the next sin(s). If you had rapidly growing cancer, would you get an operation as soon as possible? If you were bitten by a poisonous snake and deadly venom was pulsing through your bloodstream, would you seek help immediately? When you sin, repent and go to Confession immediately. Don't waste time blaming others or trying to weasel your way out of the effects of sin. Repent now.

Prayer: Father, wake me up to the toxicity of sin.

Promise: "Anyone who hears My words and puts them into practice is like the wise man who built his house on rock." -Mt 7:24

Praise: Michael reconciled with his sister.

AT WORK IN THE WOMB - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2015

Wednesday, June 24, 2015, Birth of St. John the Baptizer

Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062415.cfm

AT WORK IN THE WOMB

"From my mother's womb He gave me my name." -Isaiah 49:1

Certain liturgical celebrations have taken on new significance in our "culture of death." For instance, the feast of the Holy Innocents is more important than ever before. Also, the feasts of the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Immaculate Conception, and the Birthday of St. John the Baptizer have added significance nowadays. These feast days show that the Lord is doing great works in and through our lives from the moment of our being conceived and continuing throughout the nine months in our mothers' wombs. While in his mother's womb, John received the Holy Spirit (Lk 1:15) and was instrumental in his mother, Elizabeth, receiving the Spirit and prophesying (Lk 1:41-42). Then the Lord worked through John and Elizabeth in inspiring Mary to prophesy and magnify the Lord (Lk 1:41-46).
The Lord is doing great works in and through newly conceived, pre-born children. The Psalmist proclaims: "Truly You have formed my inmost being; You knit me in my mother's womb. I give You thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works" (Ps 139:13-14). Respect life not only in its beginning, but also let these little children be used by the Lord to transform your life.

Prayer: Father, use the youngest and oldest people to lead me to repentance.

Promise: "The child grew up and matured in spirit." -Lk 1:80

Praise: God anointed the birth of St. John so powerfully that "throughout the hill country of Judea" the story of his birth "began to be recounted to the last detail" (Lk 1:65).

(Pray about attending our Discipleship Retreat, ""Love in Action" (Worship and Evangelization)", July 20-22. For more information or to register, call 937-587-5464 or 513-373-2397 or visit www.presentationministries.com.)

DECIDING ARIGHT

"Enter through the narrow gate." -Matthew 7:13

To make the right decision, we must ask the right question. For example, if we ask "What do I want?", we are setting ourselves up to make the wrong decision, for reality is not based on what we want but on what God wants.
To make the right decision, we must decide by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). For example, Lot saw that the land of Sodom and Gomorrah looked like the best land (Gn 13:10-11). So he chose to settle there. Little did he know that this land would soon be destroyed, as fire and brimstone rained on it.
To make the right decision, we must not automatically choose the easy way, for the easy way often "leads to damnation" (Mt 7:13), while the rough way of the cross leads to life eternal (see Mt 7:14).
To make the right decision, we in our culture of death must choose the road less traveled and sparsely traveled (Mt 7:13-14). In our culture, the popular position is usually wrong. The majority is more likely to be immoral than moral.
To make the right decision, we must first decide to give our lives to Christ. Decide for Christ now.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to guide me to all truth (Jn 16:13).

Promise: "Treat others the way you would have them treat you: this sums up the law and the prophets." -Mt 7:12

Praise: Cathy keeps advocating chastity even when she is laughed at for doing so.

JUDGMENT DAZE? - One Bread, One Body, 6/22/2015

JUDGMENT DAZE?

"If you want to avoid judgment, stop passing judgment." -Matthew 7:1

We must not judge a person's character and motives. Those things are none of our business. Also, we must not pronounce a verdict on others (Mt 7:2). Nor should we sentence them to punishment. We are not to judge in these ways.
We must judge whether or not people have specks in their eyes, that is, we should judge if they are sinning. We must do this in order to remove the specks from their eyes after we have removed the planks from our own eyes (Mt 7:4). The Lord commands us: "If I say to the wicked man, you shall surely die; and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his wicked conduct so that he may live: that wicked man shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death" (Ez 3:18). The Lord also commands: "Anyone who sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, should petition God, and thus life will be given to the sinner" (1 Jn 5:16). Thus we must judge what is right or wrong. We must judge, condemn, and hate sin. We do this not because we have judged sinners but because we love them.
Thus, we are responsible to judge sin, not sinners. We must do this to love sinners by removing the specks from their eyes. Judging sin is necessary for loving others. Judging people is an obstacle to loving them. Judge so as to love.

Prayer: Father, may I judge the world in the right way (see 1 Cor 6:2).

Promise: "All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you." -Gn 12:3

Praise: St. Thomas was not only faithful to God in matters of state, he also was faithful in leading his own family to the Father.

PM eNewsletter 12th Sunday in ordinary time

June 21st Twelfth Sunday in ordinary time

This week, oh Jesus, Your church celebrates the birth of John the Baptist.

The last and greatest of the prophets, that will herald the start of
Your ministry that will lead to Your death, but to our eternal life.

Thank You Jesus, for Your love and fidelity to the father, that gave
You the strength to walk to the cross, to set us free, and open the
gates of heaven.

Thank You Jesus, for the plan of redemption for us that You fulfilled
totally, and all You ask of us is to love one another.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday A STORMY RELATIONSHIP
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/21/2015

"The Lord addressed Job out of the storm." -Job 38:1

You're in a veritable hurricane of difficulty, and all you can see of
Jesus is that He's asleep. You want to scream, "Jesus, don't You care?"
(see Mk 4:38) However, Jesus "cares for you" (1 Pt 5:7). "Indeed He
neither slumbers nor sleeps, [your] guardian" (Ps 121:4). Since Jesus
never slumbers on the job of guarding you, His sleeping in the boat of
the Church and of your life must carry another meaning. Possibly,
Jesus' act of sleeping in the boat is yet another case of Him giving us
an example (Jn 13:15).

The disciples, accustomed to the storms of the sea, finally experienced
a storm they couldn't handle. Jesus was in the same storm and the same
boat, but was asleep! He had perfect peace in the worst storm. What an
Example! (1 Pt 2:21) Facing death, Jesus yawns, arises, and stops the
chaos (Mk 4:39).

Jesus has shared His eucharistic body (Lk 22:19) and divine nature with
us (2 Pt 1:4). Can't you see that He wants to give you His own peace?
(Jn 20:19) He expects us to follow His example and trust Him in the
worst times. This is evident, because instead of comforting His panicked
disciples, He challenges them, exclaiming: "Why are you so terrified?
Why are you lacking in faith?" (Mk 4:40)

Jesus states that we, His disciples, will undergo storms and trials
(Mt 7:25). "It is a test for you, but it should not catch you off guard"
(1 Pt 4:12). When Jesus the Good Shepherd judges it to be the proper
time, He will lead you from the stormy waters to the still waters
(Ps 23:2; Ps 107:30). Until He does this, trust Him and do not fear
(Mk 5:36). Jesus is Lord of all storms.

Prayer: Jesus, You are my Refuge. I will not be afraid (Ps 27:1).

Promise: "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation." -2 Cor 5:17

Praise: Praise Jesus, Whom the winds and waves obey.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

HOLY YEAR OF MERCY

ECHO GOD

... May the Church echo the word of God that resounds strong and clear as
a message and sign of pardon, strength, aid and love. May she never tire
of extending mercy and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort.
May the Church become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat
confidently without end: "Be mindful of Your mercy, O Lord, and Your
steadfast love, for they have been from of old" (Ps 25:6).

"A SPECIAL TIME"

I have proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy as a special time for
the Church, a time when the witness of believers might grow stronger and
more effective.

"STEEPED IN MERCY"

How much I desire that the year [December 8, 2015 - November 20, 2016] to
come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and
woman, bring the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy
reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the
Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!

Jesus states that we, His disciples, will undergo storms and trials (Mt 7:25). "It is a test for you, but it should not catch you off guard" (1 Pt 4:12). When Jesus the Good Shepherd judges it to be the proper time, He will lead you from the stormy waters to the still waters (Ps 23:2; Ps 107:30). Until He does this, trust Him and do not fear (Mk 5:36).

THE LORD OF LIFESTYLE - One Bread, One Body, 6/20/2015

Saturday, June 20, 2015

2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Psalm 34:8-13, Matthew 6:24-34

THE LORD OF LIFESTYLE

"Stop worrying, then, over questions like, 'What are we to eat, or what are we to drink, or what are we to wear?' The unbelievers are always running after these things." -Matthew 6:31-32

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns us that we cannot serve two masters (Mt 6:24). He means we cannot give ourselves to God and money (Mt 6:24). In saying "giving ourselves to money," Jesus means "worrying about our livelihood." We are not to worry about what we are to eat, drink, or wear (Mt 6:25). If we do, Jesus accuses us of having weak faith and acting like unbelievers (Mt 6:30-32).
In a society preoccupied with a pleasure-seeking lifestyle, Jesus' words are very threatening. We are continually thinking of creature comforts and petty pleasures. The average American has the most affluent lifestyle in the world. We have worked for years to get what we have. Now Jesus tells us we have been wrong.
Since we are "blinded by the god of the present age," the god of lifestyle (2 Cor 4:4), we find it difficult to take seriously Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (see Lk 16:14-15). We are like the rich man's brothers who would not have opened their eyes and changed their lifestyle even if the beggar Lazarus had been raised from the dead (Lk 16:31). We need a miracle. We need the Spirit to convict us of our sins (Jn 16:8) and crucify us to the world (Gal 6:14). Ask the Spirit to do this.

Prayer: Father, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, free me from my cultural blind spots.

Promise: "My grace is enough for you, for in weakness power reaches perfection." -2 Cor 12:9

Praise: Joan has worked full time for the Lord for over thirty years - without salary or welfare. Jesus has provided for all of her needs.

BLACK LIGHT - One Bread, One Body, 6/19/2015

Friday, June 19, 2015, St. Romuald

2 Corinthians 11:18, 21-30, Psalm 34:2-7, Matthew 6:19-23
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/061915.cfm

BLACK LIGHT

"If your light is darkness, how deep will the darkness be!" -Matthew 6:23

Have you ever been in a room illuminated only by a black light? Such a room is very dimly lit. Everything that's white shows up, such as teeth and white socks. Dark objects are barely visible. It's difficult to see how things interrelate. Picture the same room with the black light replaced by a hundred-watt bulb. Now that the room is brightly lit, it's easy to see and understand the proper relationship of all objects in the room.
Jesus describes a similar situation in today's Gospel. In modern society, we are bombarded with the values of a secular humanistic culture which disregards God. If we allow our minds and consciences to be formed by such ungodly input, then our "light is darkness," in fact, a "deep" darkness (Mt 6:23). Like the person in black light, everything that is true can be seen, but not properly recognized. For example, it's a simple biological truth that abortion is murder. Yet to one whose light is darkness, this fact might be evident but not interrelated to the truth that all human life is sacred. One can't see clearly in the black light; the "light is darkness."
What programs do you watch? What do you listen to? Would Jesus say your eyes are good or bad? (Mt 6:22-23) Repent of focusing on the world's input. Instead, read Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Be immersed in Jesus, for He has called us "from darkness into His marvelous light" (1 Pt 2:9).

Prayer: Jesus, may I never prefer the darkness to You (Jn 3:19; 8:12). Help me to follow You always and be in the light (Jn 8:12).

Promise: "Look to Him that you may be radiant with joy, and your faces may not blush with shame." -Ps 34:6

Praise: During a period of spiritual dryness, St. Romuald was praying Psalm 32 and read the following verse: "I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk; I will counsel you" (Ps 32:8). With that, God gave him a deep understanding of His love.

TO KNOW JESUS NO MATTER WHAT - One Bread, One Body, 6/18/2015

Thursday, June 18, 2015

2 Corinthians 11:1-11, Psalm 111:1-4, 7-8, Matthew 6:7-15
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/061815.cfm

TO KNOW JESUS NO MATTER WHAT

"When someone comes preaching another Jesus than the One we preached, or when you receive a different spirit than the One you have received, or a gospel other than the gospel you accepted, you seem to endure it quite well." -2 Corinthians 11:4

To live the Christian life, we must know Jesus deeply and intimately. However, it is not easy to know Jesus. For example, Paul accused the Corinthian church of believing in "another Jesus" (2 Cor 11:4) - a false Jesus. Jesus warned: "Many will come attempting to impersonate Me. 'I am the Messiah!' they will claim, and they will deceive many" (Mt 24:5). In fact, at the end of the world, many baptized Christians will not believe in the true Jesus but in a false one. This will be "the mass apostasy" (2 Thes 2:3).
Despite formidable opposition to knowing Jesus, God the Father constantly and powerfully reveals His Son, Jesus (see Jn 12:28). Moreover, the Holy Spirit bears witness to Jesus (Jn 15:26) and proclaims "Jesus is Lord" (1 Cor 12:3). Therefore, if we let God have His way, we will know Jesus and have eternal life (Jn 17:3).

Prayer: Father, as St. Jerome has taught, may I not be ignorant of the Scriptures and ignorant of Christ (see Catechism, 133).

Promise: "If you forgive the faults of others, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours. If you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive you." -Mt 6:14-15

Praise: Senators Smith and Foster work tirelessly for justice for the unborn, as a service to God, the Lord of life.

ZONING CHANGES

"He dawns through the darkness, a light for the upright." -Psalm 112:4

In many aspects of our lives, we have various zones. For example, we all have comfort zones in work, relationships, prayer, study, service, etc. In our comfort zones, we are relaxing and probably enjoying ourselves.
If we, because of love or some other reason, cross the boundary of our comfort zone, we enter into a discomfort zone. In this zone, we are struggling and suffering. In this zone, we find both the danger of burnout and the opportunity for significant growth in holiness as our faculties are challenged and exercised vigorously.
If we proceed further in love and cross the boundary of the discomfort zone, we enter a new, mysterious zone which is difficult to name. It is a zone of mystery and of the paradox of indescribable joy combined with crucified love. In this zone, we are living, giving, praying, and fasting "on the edge." We are secretly extending ourselves more than ever before, and our Father Who sees in secret will repay us (Mt 6:4, 6, 18). This is the zone of agonizing temptations and Paschal victory.
Cross the border into a zone of greater love.

Prayer: Father, may I accept that my life is zoned for the cross.

Promise: "He Who supplies seed for the sower and bread for the eater will provide in abundance; he will multiply the seed you sow and increase your generous yield." -2 Cor 9:10

Praise: Margaret gives heartfelt thanks to Jesus for waking up each day.

PERFECT LOVE

"Be made perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." -Matthew 5:48

Now I will show you the way of perfection (1 Cor 13:1).
Jesus commands us to be made perfect. He then must necessarily make available to us the grace to be perfect. In fact, Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit. "The love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us" (Rm 5:5). "God is love" (1 Jn 4:8), and we have been given God's very own love. Love is the way of perfection (1 Cor 13:1), and God has given us all we need to be perfect in love.
Jesus, Love incarnate (1 Jn 4:16), made Himself poor (2 Cor 8:9) for our sake. Like Jesus, we are to love one another (Jn 15:12-13) so much that we decrease to the point of laying down our lives. We do whatever it takes to pour ourselves out in love. We become poor (2 Cor 8:9), humble ourselves (Mt 23:12), decrease (Jn 3:30), and even happily disappear in self-forgetfulness (Jn 3:29) if that's what it takes to love one another.
Because Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit within us, we are never limited in loving. We can even love in the most perfect way, that is, loving our enemies. Our "love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8). There is no limit to our ability to love those who hurt us (1 Cor 13:7).
"Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). Drink deeply from the fountain of perfect love. Live in the love of Jesus (Jn 15:9).

Prayer: Jesus, You are Love incarnate. Fill me with the Holy Spirit so I may spread Your love to my friends and enemies (Mt 5:44).

Promise: "Happy he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord, his God." -Ps 146:5

Praise: Robert was delivered from his deadly lifestyle and now leads a full life in Christ (see Jn 10:10).
