FINISHING UP - One Bread, One Body, 12/31/2007

We at Presentation Ministries wish you a very holy and blessed Christmas.

FINISHING UP

"Children, it is the final hour." —1 John 2:18

On this last day of the secular year, we can tie up the loose ends of our
year and be able to say what Jesus said moments before His death: "It is
finished" (Jn 19:30). The Lord promised He would bring to completion every
good work which He has begun (Phil 1:6). Consequently, there's no need for
us to be half-done, half-repentant, half-healed, or half-reconciled. We
don't even have to be almost done. We can be finished. We don't have to
carry a backlog of things into the new year. A new year in which we're
trying to fulfill old responsibilities is not much of a new year.

Therefore, we should repent of every sin, forgive all who have hurt us,
share our faith with all those the Lord has put into our lives, obey every
command, answer every call, and do every work. Some of you may have more
than a couple of things left to do. Some may even have a backlog of
several years. There seems to be no way you'll ever catch up. Cast all
your cares on Jesus (1 Pt 5:7). He cares for you and will do the
impossible. He will be your Lord, bring order into your life, and give you
a truly new year.

Prayer: Jesus, save me from being overwhelmed by the demands of life and
by confusion.

Promise: "In the beginning was the Word; the Word was in God's presence,
and the Word was God." —Jn 1:1

Praise: Pope St. Sylvester was instrumental in tying up all our beliefs by
being part of those who wrote the Nicene Creed.

(To start a truly new year, order our leaflet "Father Al"'"s Plan for
Reading the Bible Each Year".)

CHRISTIAN HOPE

"WITHOUT HOPE"

Man needs God, otherwise, he remains without hope. (23)

TRUE HOPE

Man's great, true hope which holds firm is spite of all
disappointments can only be God — God Who has loved
us, and Who continues to love us "to the end," until all
"is accomplished."
(cf Jn 13:1 and 19:30). (27)

"THE FOUNDATION OF HOPE"

God is the foundation of hope; ... God Who has a human

and humanity in its entirety. (31)

THE ETERNAL FAMILY REUNION

"Christ's peace must reign in your hearts." —Colossians 3:15

We want to celebrate Christmas with our families. Therefore, Christmas is
especially difficult for us if a loved one has died in the last year.
However, we have the great hope of our families getting together for the
eternal happiness of heaven. We will have a family reunion in heaven in
the not too distant future, and if the Lord has His way, not one family
member will be missing.

For your family to stay together for an eternity of Christmases, you must:
* Repent of sin and decide to love the Lord with all your heart, soul,
mind, and strength.
* Talk to your family members about your love for Jesus.
* Be in right relationship with family members. Honor your parents (Sir
3:2), be submissive to your husband, lay down your life for your wife (Col
3:18-19), disciple your children.
* Pray together daily as a married couple and as a family (see Mt
18:19-20).
* Forgive family members seven times seventy times (see Col 3:13).

Many of you feel very discouraged about the spiritual state of your
families. Be instead confident that the Lord loves each member of your
family, even to death on the cross. Jesus will change the hardest heart.
Be hopeful.

Prayer: Father, may I remove the plank of sin from my own eye so as to
help family members remove the specks from their eyes (Mt 7:5).

Promise: "Kindness to a father will not be forgotten, it will serve as a
sin offering — it will take lasting root." —Sir 3:14

Praise: "Give to the Lord, you families of nations, give to the Lord glory
and praise" (Ps 96:7).

W. W. J. D. ? - One Bread, One Body, 12/29/2007

We at Presentation Ministries wish you a very holy and blessed Christmas.
We pray you will receive Jesus, the Word Incarnate, in a new way into your
heart.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, December 29, 2007, St. Thomas Becket

1 John 2:3-11, Psalm 96, Luke 2:22-35
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/122907.shtml

W. W. J. D. ?

"The way we can be sure we are in union with Him is for the man who claims
to abide in Him to conduct himself just as He did." —1 John 2:5-6

There is a popular bracelet worn by young Christians these days. It bears
the letters "W. W. J. D. ?" ("What Would Jesus Do?") Many teenagers wear
this bracelet as a reminder to conduct themselves daily just as Jesus did
(1 Jn 2:5-6). It is their way of taking to heart Jesus' words and binding
them on their wrist as a sign of how to live (see Dt 6:6-8). This is an
excellent way to begin a life of discipleship.

The writer of 1 John knew that by imitating the conduct of Jesus, we would
have certain knowledge of our union with Him. This is true because Jesus
conducted Himself in a way that is humanly imitation-proof; that is, His
conduct is so high above our ways (Is 55:8-9) that no human being can
imitate His conduct without His grace to live according to the Spirit (see
Rm 8:5).

When people try to keep Jesus' commandments and follow Him without totally
committing their lives to Him as His imitators (i.e., His disciples),
Jesus will eventually ask something of them impossible according to the
flesh. It will always involve "rising early" each morning to pray (Mk
1:35), carrying a daily cross (Lk 9:23), loving our enemies (Mt 5:44), and
complete obedience to the will of God (Lk 22:42). Sometimes this may even
involve selling all we have and giving it to the poor (see Mt 19:21-22),
giving up our home (Lk 9:58), or living a celibate life (Mt 19:12). Jesus
will give us the grace to imitate Him. Follow Him now.

Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Jesus as my Example. I will "follow
in His footsteps" (1 Pt 2:21).

Promise: "Whoever keeps His word, truly has the love of God been made
perfect in him." —1 Jn 2:5

Praise: St. Thomas returned to his archdiocese even at the risk of his
life, just as Jesus would have done.

JOSEPH NOW MORE THAN EVER - One Bread, One Body, 12/28/2007

We at Presentation Ministries wish you a very holy and blessed Christmas.
We pray you will receive Jesus, the Word Incarnate, in a new way into your
heart.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 28, 2007, Holy Innocents

1 John 1:5—2:2, Psalm 124, Matthew 2:13-18
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/122807.shtml

JOSEPH NOW MORE THAN EVER

"Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother and left that night for
Egypt." —Matthew 2:14

One of the best birthdays and Christmas presents we can give Jesus is to
make sure children in the womb also have birthdays. "God did not make
death, nor does He rejoice in the destruction of the living" (Wis 1:13).
The Lord does not want His creatures destroyed but born into His abundant
life (Jn 10:10). We should ask Jesus this question: "In 2008, what are You
calling me to do to save today's holy innocents from Planned Parenthood
and other Herods?"

Like Joseph, we must get God's answer to this question. We could do many
"good" things, but we must discern the "God" thing to do. Like Joseph, we
need to be open to even the most radical calling from God. Can we hear God
tell us to leave everything behind immediately and go to the Egypt in our
lives? The question is not if He's calling us in this way but can He call
us, anywhere, at any time, for anything. Joseph's radical openness to
God's will is necessary to save all the holy innocents. Joseph is the
model for pro-life, life, and Christmas.

Prayer: St. Joseph, pray for me to be like Jesus as you were.

Promise: "We have, in the presence of the Father, Jesus Christ, an
Intercessor Who is just. He is an Offering for our sins, and not for our
sins only, but for those of the whole world." —1 Jn 2:1-2

Praise: The Holy Innocents were first of countless martyrs who died so
that the faith could be passed on to us.

Peter, it's better to be a dreamer...

Dear Peter,

Life - The Pursuit of Purpose

Source: David Jeremiah

In 1959, the Milton Bradley Company asked their famous inventor of "The Checkered Game of Life" to develop a new game. Taking a cue from Bradley's first game, Klamer invented The Game of LIFE®.

LIFE's players spin a wheel, take chances, choose careers, get married, etc., and eventually retire. The winner retires the richest in terms of money and game tiles.

But there is something wrong when that's all there is to it, for Jesus said, "One's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. . . . Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing" (Luke 12:15, 23). Jesus is "The prince of life" (Acts 3:15) and we are to "reign in life" through Him (Romans 5:17).

So we'd better think carefully about the purpose of life. What on earth are we here for? How can we make the most of life?

Long ago, young David volunteered to fight the giant, but his brothers scoffed. David's famous response was: "Is there not a cause?" (1 Samuel 17:29)

There is a cause for every one of us because God has a perfect purpose and plan for our lives to use us to change the world. We're here to accomplish His will. Our success and significance depend on finding the cause.

Let's take those five letters—CAUSE—as our model.

The "C" stands for Celebration. We're here to celebrate God, to worship Him, to rejoice in Him.

Our very lifestyle is an act of worship; and when we come together on Sundays, we're simply expressing corporately what we've been experiencing individually.

Are you worshipping today? I have a place where I worship the Lord during a definite period each day. I close the door and read the Bible, sometimes aloud; and I pray aloud. Sometimes I even sing. I sense God's presence and it's wonderful.

The "A" stands for Attitude. God desires in us certain attitudes that He wants displayed—love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we are rooted and growing in Christ, we're like fruit trees. The invisible "sap" of the Holy Spirit produces the attitudes of Christ like fruit in our lives. We become Christ-like, His disciples.

The "U" stands for Unity. We're made to be part of God's family and to care for His children. Jesus prayed for us, "That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me" (John 17:21).

I love the family, and that word speaks to me of all that should be true in the church. According to the Bible, everyone who accepts Christ as personal Saviour is automatically born into God's forever family.

The fourth letter in the word CAUSE stands for Service. We can only serve God when we serve others. Jesus said when we give a small kindness to one of the least of His children, it's as though we are doing it for Him. He came not to be served, but to serve; and He expects us to follow in His steps.

Serving God isn't just showing up at church on Sunday with a bright smile on our faces. It's getting down to help people who need our help and being available to God so He can use us in all situations.

Finally, the "E" stands for Evangelism. We're often frightened to share our faith, but the early Christians were scattered everywhere, preaching the Word. It isn't a complicated message. It's as simple as John 3:16. But we have to share it, for God has given us a great commandment—to love one another—and a great commission—to share the message of Christ with the entire world.

A great commitment to the great commandment and the great commission makes a great Christian and a great church.

This is life. This is our cause. It's not a game, but a glorious calling because our lives do not consist in the abundance of the things we possess, but in Him who gives us life more abundantly.

Dr. Jeremiah is the founder of Turning Point for God, senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, Calif., and chancellor of San Diego Christian College.

LOVING THE INVISIBLE - One Bread, One Body, 12/27/2007

We at Presentation Ministries wish you a very holy and blessed Christmas.
We pray you will receive Jesus, the Word Incarnate, in a new way into your
heart.

LOVING THE INVISIBLE

"This life became visible; we have seen and bear witness to it, and we
proclaim to you the eternal life that was present to the Father and became
visible to us." —1 John 1:2

God, Who is Spirit (Jn 4:24) and therefore invisible, became visible to us
when He was conceived in Mary's womb and born in Bethlehem. When the Word
became flesh, it became possible for us to see God (1 Jn 1:1). John "saw
and believed" (Jn 20:8). "Mary Magdalene went to the disciples. 'I have
seen the Lord!' she announced" (Jn 20:18). "The other disciples kept
telling [Thomas] 'We have seen the Lord!' " (Jn 20:25) Thomas became a
believer because he saw the Lord, but "blest are they who have not seen
and have believed" (Jn 20:29).

However, Jesus' incarnation and birth are not primarily ways of becoming
visible, but are expressions of infinite love. Therefore, our relationship
with the Lord is not based on a sensory response to His visibleness but on
our faith-response to His love. "Although you have never seen Him, you
love Him, and without seeing you now believe in Him, and rejoice with
inexpressible joy touched with glory because you are achieving faith's
goal, your salvation" (1 Pt 1:8-9).

Prayer: Father, may I "walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7).

Promise: "Our purpose in writing you this is that our joy may be
complete." —1 Jn 1:4

Praise: St. John's faith carried him to the foot of the cross and then to
the glory of the resurrection.

CHRISTMAS IS WAR ON THE WORLD

"Then they rushed at him as one man, dragged him out of the city, and
began to stone him." —Acts 7:57-58

Most families have special Christmas traditions. On the second day of
Christmas, the Catholic family traditionally recalls the brutal murder of
Stephen, the first martyr. Why recall such a gruesome event, especially at
Christmas time?

The original purpose of Christmas was to challenge the life-style of the
world by intentionally trying to ruin the pagans' festivities. In the
third century, the Romans set their sun-god festival for December 25. They
had the date years before Christians formally celebrated Christmas in the
year 336. Christians intentionally scheduled their celebrations to
conflict with the pagans' festivities. We did this as an act of
aggression, declaring war, picking a fight, and asking for trouble.

Christians made a lot of enemies by breaking up the pagans' parties. We
also stepped on the toes of business people who made money off the pagan
festivities. When you're bad for business, you make even more enemies who
"will hale you into court," "flog you," grind their teeth in anger at you,
and begin to stone you (Mt 10:17; Acts 7:54, 58). "You will be hated by
all" on account of Jesus (Mt 10:22). "But whoever holds out till the end
will escape death" (Mt 10:22).

Prayer: Jesus, may my Christmas be a threat to the world, the flesh, and
the devil.

Promise: "As Stephen was being stoned he could be heard praying, 'Lord
Jesus, receive my spirit.' " —Acts 7:59

Praise: St. Stephen held out to the end, beheld God's glory, and forgave
his enemies as he was brutally murdered.

Peter, work is _______ made visible.

Dear Peter,

Our Mystery Man also said:

"Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love
but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your
work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those
who work with joy."

Isaiah 52:7-10, Hebrews 1:1-6, Psalm 98, John 1:1-18
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/122507.shtml

UNPREDICTABLE

"In the beginning was the Word; the Word was in God's presence, and the
Word was God." —John 1:1

The Bible is the most unpredictable book ever written. The first words
from God's word for the Christmas Day Mass are: "How beautiful upon the
mountains are the feet of Him Who brings glad tidings, announcing peace,
bearing good news, announcing salvation" (Is 52:7). When everyone else is
thinking about gaudy extravagance, God's talking about beautiful feet.
These feet are beautiful because they bring the good news of peace (Is
52:7). After centuries of chaos, we can finally have shalom-peace, perfect
harmony through salvation from sin, death, slavery, and Satan. This is
accomplished not by our mere human efforts but by the God-King (Is 52:7).

Amazingly and once again unpredictably, the God-King is also the
Infant-King, Jesus. Jesus is our Peace and our Savior (Eph 2:14). He has
become a Son of Man so we may become sons and daughters of God and even
"sharers of the divine nature" (2 Pt 1:4). All we have to do is accept Him
on His terms as Man, Savior, King, Lord, and God. "To His own He came, yet
His own did not accept Him. Any who did accept Him He empowered to become
children of God" (Jn 1:11-12). Now, Christmas Day, "is the acceptable
time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2)

Prayer: Jesus, I give my life to You. I decide to do Your will and not
mine, to live for You and not for myself.

Promise: "In times past, God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways to our
fathers through the prophets; in this, the final age, He has spoken to us
through His Son." —Heb 1:1-2

Praise: Praise Jesus, Who is Lord of the acceptable time and Who bought
our salvation with His life!

CHRISTMAS (ADAM AND) EVE?

"Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a
tent!" —2 Samuel 7:2

"No big deal — Jesus is coming tomorrow on Christmas Day. He does that
every year. Hey! Santa Claus is coming tomorrow! I wonder what I'll get!"

"No big deal — God is walking in the garden of Eden this afternoon (Gn
3:8). He does this all the time. Wow! That apple looks luscious! (Gn 3:6)
I wonder what it tastes like..."

"No big deal — Jesus is going to be appearing at my Church today in the
form of bread and wine. He does that all the time. Mmmm! I can't wait to
taste that turkey dinner tomorrow!"

"So, Joseph and Mary have to lay their Baby Jesus in a feeding trough.
Well, I'm sorry to hear that. Life is rough. Hey! I better get a new
mattress this Christmas! I've had enough of sleeping on this lumpy
thing..."

Jesus is coming that we might be set free from the tyranny of our fallen,
selfish nature (Jn 8:32). Jesus is coming that we might live no longer for
ourselves, but for Him (2 Cor 5:15). Jesus will set us free from the
tunnel vision of our own desires, and will give us a shining, new vision
of His glorious kingdom.

Jesus is coming to give us a new mother, Mary, who set aside her plans and
received Him with tenderness and love (Lk 1:38). He has given us Mary to
replace our old mother, Eve, who ignored God and satisfied her own
desires.

"Wait a minute...'Here I am living in a house of cedar' (2 Sm 7:2), while
the Son of God lies in a barn! I'm going to church today to thank Him for
coming into my world!" (see Lk 2:15-16)

Prayer: Come, Lord Jesus! "My soul longs for You" (Ps 42:2).

Promise: "The favors of the Lord I will sing forever." —Ps 89:2

Praise: "Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel because He has visited and
ransomed His people" (Lk 1:68).

PM eNewsletter the fourth Sunday of Advent

For more on the teachings of Father Al Lauer see the
home page of Presentation Ministries? Please take a look.

http://presentationministries.com/home/home.asp

December 23rd, 2007 the fourth Sunday of Advent.

This week oh! Christ, let us be in awe.

Let us be in awe that You love us so much that You
became like us in everything but sin.

Let us be in awe that You wanted to give us the perfect
gift of forgivness of all sin forever.

Jesus, keep us from being so caught up in this season
that we forget to say happy birthday and give You that gift
of ours.

Lord, I know we all need this season to be led to give, but
we really need this season to become on fire for Your true
presence in our lives.

Jesus, thank You for You, and thank You for the gifts You
have already given us, and the call that each of us have to
love You with our whole heart, our whole mind, our whole
self and with all of our love.

Jesus, I'm sorry that this season has become so
commerical, but Lord open us up to see through that, and
get to the real core of Your birthday, the gift of You to give
us life.

Jesus, You are the answer to all the problems of the world,
yet so many don't even say "happy birthday to You".

Let us, Lord, have a party of love on christmas day that truly
honors You.

Jesus, we love You. Amen and Amen

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "THE BEST LAID PLANS OF MICE AND MEN"

http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=12/23/2007

"When Joseph awoke he did as the angel of the Lord had
directed him." —Matthew 1:24

Many of you have Christmas planned. You're going to go to
certain parties, see certain family members and friends, and
give specific presents. You expect to receive a few presents
yourself along with some Christmas goodies. The Christmas
you have planned is about the same as last year's Christmas,
with a few minor variations.

What if Jesus decided to change your Christmas plans
dramatically? Would you let Him be Lord of your Christmas?
Ahaz had plans about how to avoid destruction by the
Assyrians. Just when Ahaz had his plans all set, Isaiah told
Ahaz to forget his plans and trust in God alone. The Lord
even promised a dramatic sign to prove Isaiah's message
(Is 7:11). Ahaz refused to ask for the sign, would not even
consider changing his plans, and was destroyed by the Assyrians.

Joseph planned to quietly divorce Mary because she was
pregnant and the baby was not his (Mt 1:19). An angel
appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to change his
plans. He changed his plans and became the foster father
of Jesus, the husband of Mary, and head of the Holy Family.

The best Christmases are not when we get our way,
but when we change our plans so that Jesus gets His way.

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among
us." John 1:14

The Christmas season is a celebration of God's word.
Christmas is the perfect time to intensify our reading of the
Scriptures. In this Christmas season, I invite you to ask for
and accept the grace to read the Psalms in the following
15-day format. In the Catholic community, 15 days is the
briefest possible Christmas season. As you read and pray
the Psalms, you will have the Christmas the Lord wants
you to have and begin this new year with your eyes fixed
on Jesus.

Day 1 Psalms 1 — 10
Day 2 Psalms 11 — 21
Day 3 Psalms 22 — 31
Day 4 Psalms 32 — 41

PM Internet Prayer Requests
http://www.presentationministries.com/prayer/prayer.asp

Please pray for my mother Grace who is 81 and had a heart
attack last week and is not doing very well.
(M.B., Lakewood, CA, United States, 12/22/2007 8:15:48 PM)

Father God, I beg of you to keep the hedge of protection
around James, Ethan and me. Please show yourself in a
mighty positive way. Make a way where there is no way,
Lord. Draw Ethan close to you through the power of your
Holy Spirit and help him see the need for repentance. Bring
brokenness to him so he will see his need for You. I pray
that every enemy in Ethan's life be stopped and rendered
to no effect. Send believers to him who will proclaim the
gospel to him in the power of your Holy Spirit so his eyes
will be opened and he will turn from darkness to light. Lord,
I believe you are at work at reconciliation between me and
Ethan. Please bring him home a changed man, better than
ever, believing in you and ready to commit to me through
marriage and to James through adoption. Thank you.
(T.T., Los Angeles, CA, United States, 12/22/2007 6:48:14 PM)

(concerned, Oceanside, calif., 12/22/2007 1:50:18 PM)

Dear brethren, pray for me that the Lord God will forgive
me all my sins and that i will be able to come out of this
evil habit of hurting almost every person around me
emotionally and psychologically. May He touch the hearts
of all those people i have hurt emotionally, physically and
psychologically that they will also forgive me. Amen.
(N., wenzhou, zhejiang, China, 12/22/2007 12:39:55 PM)

Pope Benedict XVI

World must know about the life-changing impact of Christmas,
maintains Benedict XVI
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=11311

Vatican City, Dec 19, 2007 / 10:25 am (CNA).- As Christmas
draws nearer, Pope Benedict departed from his tradition of
reflecting on an Early Church Father on Wednesdays so that
he could point to the impact of Jesus' birth upon the world.

That God's son became a man means that mankind is able to
become truly human, that this message of salvation must be
shared and that peace will come to the world, Benedict XVI
explained.

Christmas and Justice

"If, on the one hand, Christmas is a commemoration of
the incredible prodigy of the birth of the only-begotten Son

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

CHRISTIAN HOPE

HOPE AND SALVATION

In hope we were saved, says St. Paul to the Romans ,
and likewise to us (Rom 8:24) (1)

"NEW LIFE"

The one who has hope lives differently; the one who
hopes has been granted the gift of a new life. (2)

KNOW GOD, RECEIVE HOPE

To come to know God — the true God — means to
receive hope. We who have always lived with the Christian
concept of God, and have grown accustomed to it, have
almost ceased to notice that we possess the hope that
comes from a real encounter with this God. (3)
