Peter, we must ________.

Dear Peter,

Have you guessed who our Mystery Man is yet? He also said:

"I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not
enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do."

Peter, how can you relate this quote to Step 3 of The
Scientific Formula for Success?

Building friendships that last

Building friendships that last

Source: Dr Michael Yousef

In today's fast-moving culture, millions of hearts are filled with loneliness. The inability to make friends and to keep friends has become a modern-day pandemic. Even for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ — people who know that their friendships are for eternity — nurturing eternal friendships has become a lost art.

After He created man, God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18, NIV). God created us for deep friendships. And if we really understood what eternal friendships were all about, then we would cherish and value eternal friendships among our fellow believers.

To understand the depth of eternal friendships among Christians, you have to understand that these friendships must begin through a strong relationship with the one true friend — Jesus Christ. The Bible talks about Christ as the friend who sticks to you closer than a brother (see Proverbs 18:24). Without knowing Him as your friend, life would be empty and frightening. Without knowing Him as your friend, loneliness would dry up the joy that comes from eternal friendships.

So the key to eternal friendships is in knowing Jesus Christ as your friend — and once you have made that step, there are four additional principles to help you to build friendships that last.

1. Lose your timidity. Someone told me once that he was intimidated by the thought of forming close friendships with Christians — and that he was particularly uncomfortable in Bible study groups. I said, "Well, what are you intimidated about?" He said, "The thought that they might ask me to pray in public. I have never done that, and I don't want to do that. Or they might test my biblical knowledge." And I said, "My friend, when you understand that eternal friendship is not built on embarrassing one another, you will give up this feeling of being intimidated."

2.Eternal friendship must be based on a joint desire to obey the Word of God. Look at John 15:14. Jesus said, "You are my friends if you do what I command" (NIV). The one common thing among eternal friends is a collective agreement that you have one desire in heart, mind, and soul — and that is to obey Christ. When you're together in friendship with other believers, it is much easier to obey Christ. It is much easier to be encouraged by one another. Eternal friendships are supposed to empower us to encourage one another, to uplift one another. When I'm down, you lift me up. When you're down, I lift you up — because one of the primary principles of eternal friendships is obedience to Jesus.

3. Eternal friendship must lead to intimacy. Listen to what Jesus said: "I no longer call you servants. ... Instead, I have called you friends" (John 15:15, NIV). When you have come to Jesus Christ and surrendered your life to Him, He has already said, "You're my friend. No longer do I call you servant." He meant, "I do not consider you as slaves; I'm calling you to be friends. And when you know Me as a friend, you're going to obey Me. And then even obedience will become easier for you." Developing eternal friendships is very empowering for us in our obedience and in our love for Jesus Christ.

4. You initiate friendship. Jesus said, "You did not choose me, but I chose you" (John 15:16, NIV). What does Jesus mean? Don't wait for someone else to initiate the friendship by reaching out to you; rather, you initiate love. You initiate inviting. You initiate calling. You initiate welcoming. When Jesus called us friends, He initiated things by choosing us. And so He's saying, "You do the same. You do the initiating. Follow My example. You should become vulnerable for My sake."

That's what building eternal friendships is all about. It's not about embarrassing you or testing your biblical knowledge. It's about iron sharpening iron (see Proverbs 27:17). It's about lifting up one another and each other's burdens. It's about helping one another to accomplish God's plans for our individual lives. It's about better impacting your workplace, your neighbourhood, and your family for Christ.

GOD'S MEASURING CUP

"In the measure you give you shall receive, and more besides. To those who
have, more will be given." —Mark 4:24-25

David swore to the Lord, "I will not enter the house I live in, nor lie on
the couch where I sleep; I will give my eyes no sleep, my eyelids no rest,
till I" provide a temple in which the Lord shall dwell (Ps 132:2-5). David
expended much "anxious care" (Ps 132:1) over this ministry. He truly loved
and worshipped God, and cared for God's interests more than his own (see 2
Sm 7:2).

The Lord then gave David a prophecy that his kingdom would endure forever
(2 Sm 7:16). David was literally staggered by this mind-boggling prophecy
of blessing. Read David's prayer of thanksgiving in 2 Samuel 7:18-29. He
was overwhelmed, almost "breathless" (see 1 Kgs 10:5), at the unbounded
goodness of God.

"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have
shown Him by your service, past and present, to His holy people" (Heb
6:10). "Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned
on man what God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Cor 2:9). When you
serve God in love, seeking the interests of the Lord and His people rather
than your own (see Phil 2:20-21), then God will "open for you the
floodgates of heaven, to pour down blessing upon you without measure" (Mal
3:10). "Give, and it shall be given to you. Good measure pressed down,
shaken together, running over, will they pour into the fold of your
garment. For the measure you measure with will be measured back to you"
(Lk 6:38).

Prayer: Father, may I serve You out of a heart of total love for You. May
I love You more and more.

Promise: "And now, Lord God, You are God and Your words are truth; You
have made this generous promise to Your servant." —2 Sm 7:28

Praise: St. John Bosco gave with such a measure that countless souls
continue to seek the Lord under his guidance.

CHOKE-HOLD

"They have listened to the word, but anxieties over life's demands, and
the desire for wealth, and cravings of other sorts come to choke it off;
it bears no yield." —Mark 4:18-19

Jehoiakim took the scroll containing Jeremiah's prophecies, cut it up, and
burnt it (Jer 36:23). The consequence to Jehoiakim's desecration of the
word was: "No descendant of his shall succeed to David's throne; his
corpse shall be cast out, exposed to the heat of the day, to the cold
night. I will punish him and his descendants and his ministers for their
wickedness" (Jer 36:30-31). Like Jehoiakim, the Seleucids also tore up and
burnt "any scrolls of the law which they found" (1 Mc 1:56). They were
defeated and their leader died of extreme depression (1 Mc 6:8-11).

We choke God's word by our sinfulness. We should not do violence against
the word but yield to it. "Let the word of Christ, rich as it is, dwell in
you" (Col 3:16). "Humbly welcome the word that has taken root in you" (Jas
1:21). At Mass, we have the custom of kissing the Bible after the reading
of the Gospel. However, we must respect God's word not only by reverencing
the Book but also by living and obeying the message of the Scriptures.
Whether we choke God's word through worldly cares or physically
desecrating the Scriptures, we still "choke it off" so that His word
"bears no yield" (Mk 4:19).

Let's not do violence against God's word. The Lord says: "This is the one
whom I approve; the lowly and afflicted man who trembles at My word" (Is
66:2).

Prayer: Father, may I kiss the Scriptures not out of habit but out of
love.

Promise: "Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before Me." —2
Sm 7:16

Praise: Twenty-seven years ago, Edgar promised the Lord he would read
Scripture every day, and he has kept that promise.

FAMILY MATTERS

"...gazing around Him at those seated in the circle..." —Mark 3:34

Before Jesus became flesh, His experience of family was that of
superabundant love circulating between Himself, the Holy Spirit, and the
Father (Jn 1:1-2). Then Jesus came to earth as a Man, and His experience
of family was the love flowing through the Holy Family (Lk 2:39-40), and,
later, through His relatives (Mk 3:31-32). Jesus has an unimaginably rich
family history.

Today's Gospel presents an abrupt diversion from Jesus' family experience.
Jesus gazes at the crowd seated in the circle around Him (Mk 3:34). These
people are "hanging on His words" (Lk 19:48). They seek wisdom, healing,
or words of direction from One greater than they (Lk 11:31-32). Suddenly
the Master is interrupted by a summons from His family. The members in the
crowd immediately realize that their time with Jesus is up. They naturally
assume Jesus must attend to family matters, and mentally prepare to return
home, not knowing if they will ever see Him again. Imagine the look on
their faces as Jesus gazes lovingly at them and tells them they are His
family, because they are doing the will of God (Mk 3:34-35). Imagine the
joy of Jesus in sharing with them the never-ending love that flows in His
family.

At Baptism, you were begotten from above (Jn 3:3), given a new nature, and
adopted into the family of God. You are no longer strangers; you are
included in the best family ever. Live your Baptism. Do God's will. Live
in His family love (Jn 15:10).

Prayer: Holy Father, Holy Jesus, and Holy Spirit, may I bear much fruit
for You (Jn 15:8) and lead many thousands into our family.

Promise: "Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to
Me." —Mk 3:35

Praise: Mark, his wife, and their children made their faith a family
matter by entering into the Catholic Church together on Easter.

WATER AND BLOOD

"Here we are, your bone and your flesh." —2 Samuel 5:1

David became king of the tribes of Israel because they were his flesh and
blood. They considered it desirable to have their own kin as their ruler,
for "blood is thicker than water."

However, in the new covenant, the waters of baptism are thicker than the
blood of natural relationship. In other words, the blood of Jesus is
thicker than the blood of human kinship. That's why Jesus left His mother
and relatives to invest His life in His apostles. He said: "Whoever does
the will of God is brother and sister and mother to Me" (Mk 3:35). On
another occasion, after a woman "called out, 'Blest is the womb that bore
you and the breasts that nursed you,' " Jesus made the same point, saying:
"Rather...blest are they who hear the word of God and keep it" (Lk
11:27-28). Jesus also taught: "If anyone comes to Me without turning his
back on his father and mother, his wife and his children, his brothers and
sisters, indeed his very self, he cannot be My follower" (Lk 14:26).

Jesus calls us to make our baptismal relationships the highest priority.
For instance, we should see our wives not only as wives but as baptized
sisters in the Lord. Our children are more than just our children. We are
united to them through the waters of baptism and the blood of Jesus.
Furthermore, we see strangers differently since both of us may have been
"baptized into one body" (1 Cor 12:13). Our unity in Jesus' kingship is
more important than our kinship. Living out our baptisms in Christian
community is the priority which strengthens all our relationships.

Prayer: Father, may my vocation help me to better live out my baptism and
vice versa.

Promise: "David grew steadily more powerful, for the Lord of hosts was
with him." —2 Sm 5:10

Praise: St. Thomas is credited with composing the beautiful eucharistic
hymns, O Salutaris, and Tantum Ergo.

January 27th, 3rd Sunday in ordinary time

Jesus, January is, for many parts of the world, a cold place
and time.

The ice and snow gets to be hard to bear after awhile.

Christ, please keep our hearts and souls from getting cold.

Let us rather be on fire with love and awe.

Let us be amazed that we, with all of our failings, are still
so loved by You.

Let us be in awe of all the help that You give us to get us
through this life, through Your church and through Your
sacraments.

Let us take advantagae of the sacrament of reconciliation,
that we may be freed from the stain of sin.

Let us take advantage of the sacrament of the Eucharist,
that we may be filled with Your true presense.

Let us grow everyday in holiness, and never think that we
are holy enough, but rather realize that we are on a pilgrim
journey that guides us through all the pitfalls of life.

Let your Holy Spirit always be our guide. Amen and Amen

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us totally.

Sunday ICE-FISHING

http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=1/27/2008

"Come after Me and I will make you fishers of men." —Matthew 4:19

How many people have you led to the Lord in the first month of
2008? How many have you tried to reach out to? Many
Christians are not fishing because they don't like ice-fishing.
They reason that people's hearts are too cold to listen to the
gospel message. Some Christians make the excuse that
they'll fish later in the year when the fish are biting and the
weather is warm. But that day never comes. The fish are not
going to be biting any better tomorrow than today. Unbelievers
are cold to the gospel message, or they wouldn't be unbelievers.

"But how shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed?
And how can they believe unless they have heard of Him? And
how can they hear unless there is someone to preach?"
(Rm 10:14) "Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of
salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2)

Christians used to tell fish-stories about the big one that got
away. Now we just tell "story-stories." We talk about our talk.
Since we don't evangelize, we try to ease our consciences by
at least discussing the latest Evangelization Seminar.

When will we spread the gospel as if believing in Jesus were a
matter of life and death, of salvation and damnation? When we
were baptized we received not a fishing license but a fishing
mandate. We must fish; it's against the law not to.

· Who Am I in Christ?

http://presentationministries.com/brochures/WhoAmIInChrist.asp

"He who seeks only himself brings himself to ruin, whereas
he who brings himself to nought for Me discovers who he is."
—Matthew 10:39

We must know who we are before we know what to do, when to
do it, where to go, and how it's done. Identity is a first step in the
Christian life. Before Jesus' public ministry, the Father proclaimed
Jesus His beloved Son in Whom He was well pleased (Mt 3:17).
As soon as Peter recognized Who Jesus was, Jesus announced
to Peter: "You are 'Rock,' and on this rock I will build My Church"
(Mt 16:18). Paul repeatedly told believers who they were. He
called us the holy ones, the chosen ones, the adopted sons and
daughters of the Father (Eph 1:1-5). We are the redeemed, the
forgiven, the gifted of God (Eph 1:7-8). Likewise Peter proclaimed:
"You, however, are 'a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy
nation, a people He claims for His own' " (1 Pt 2:9).

The first question in life is: "Who is Jesus?" The second is:
"Who am I?" .................................

Sunday Angelus
"Never grow tired of praying for Christian unity", Pope tells crowd

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=11509

Vatican City, Jan 20, 2008 / 12:03 pm (CNA).- After greeting
a throng of some 200,000 people who came to
St. Peter's Square to prayerfully support Pope Benedict,
the Holy Father turned to the subject of his Angelus address,
the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The Pope exhorted
the faithful in his reflections to "never grow tired of praying for
unity among Christians!"

During this week of prayer, Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans
and Protestants, "implore the Lord together, in a more intense
way, for the gift of communion," the Pontiff reminded the faithful.

The Pope acknowledged the Franciscan Friars and Sisters
of the Atonement, the "spiritual sons and daughters" of
Fr. Paul Wattson, who began the initiative 100 years ago
and who was dedicated entirely to the work of healing
divisions between Christians.

This year's theme for the week ......................

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth
Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE FAMILY AND PEACE

"EXPERIENCE PEACE"

The family ... enables its members in decisive ways to
experience peace.

"UNDERMINES PEACE"

.. Whoever, even unknowingly, circumvents the institution
of the family undermines peace in the entire community,
national and international, since he weakens what is in
effect the primary agency of peace.

OBSTACLES TO PEACE

.. Everything that serves to weaken the family based on
the marriage of a man and a woman, everything that
directly or indirectly stands in the way of its openness to
the responsible acceptance of new life, everything that
obstructs its right to be primarily responsible for the
education of its children ,constitutes an objective obstacle
on the road to peace.

2008 RETREATS

Feb 22 - 23
Living In Reality (held in Cincinnati Area)

Many people, even Christians, are not in touch with reality
because of sin and our secular humanistic culture. During
this retreat, we will focus on four basic timeless realities
revealed by Christ, then center on repentance and total
commitment to Jesus. The retreat will conclude with how
to build a lifestyle in the Spirit through family relationships.

Mar 15
Women's Retreat

As a woman, you are most precious to the Lord ~ come
find out more about receiving God's love and His deepest
purpose for your genuine femininity. "The dignity and the
vocation of women have gained exceptional prominence in
recent years. The hour is coming, in fact has come, when
the vocation of women is being acknowledged in its fullness,
the hour in which women acquire in the world an influence,
an effect and a power never hitherto achieved. That is why,
at this moment when the human race is undergoing so
deep a transformation, women imbued with a spirit of the
Gospel can do so much to aid humanity in not falling." –
John Paul II, On the Dignity and Vocation of Women

ICE-FISHING

"Come after Me and I will make you fishers of men." —Matthew 4:19

How many people have you led to the Lord in the first month of 2008? How
many have you tried to reach out to? Many Christians are not fishing
because they don't like ice-fishing. They reason that people's hearts are
too cold to listen to the gospel message. Some Christians make the excuse
that they'll fish later in the year when the fish are biting and the
weather is warm. But that day never comes. The fish are not going to be
biting any better tomorrow than today. Unbelievers are cold to the gospel
message, or they wouldn't be unbelievers.

"But how shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how
can they believe unless they have heard of Him? And how can they hear
unless there is someone to preach?" (Rm 10:14) "Now is the acceptable
time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2)

Christians used to tell fish-stories about the big one that got away. Now
we just tell "story-stories." We talk about our talk. Since we don't
evangelize, we try to ease our consciences by at least discussing the
latest Evangelization Seminar.

When will we spread the gospel as if believing in Jesus were a matter of
life and death, of salvation and damnation? When we were baptized we
received not a fishing license but a fishing mandate. We must fish; it's
against the law not to.

Prayer: Father, may there always be a "Gone Fishing" sign on the door of
my life.

Promise: "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light." —Is
9:1

Praise: Praise Jesus, Who visited His terrified disciples and gave them
the power to become powerful evangelizers.

Saturday, January 26, 2008, Sts. Timothy & Titus

2 Timothy 1:1-8 or, Titus 1:1-5, Psalm 96, Luke 10:1-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/012608.shtml

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

"With the strength which comes from God bear your share of the hardship
which the gospel entails." —2 Timothy 1:8

Many of you have laid down your lives in the service of God's people.
Priests, religious sisters, and religious brothers have given up money,
careers, independence, marriage, and sexual relations in answer to God's
call. Married couples have made supreme sacrifices for spouses and
children. Those single for the Lord have fought the devil's temptations
and our society's pressures, and have been pure as Jesus is pure (1 Jn
3:3).

Yet after years of self-sacrificing commitments, you look at the Church,
your family, and your life and wonder if it was worth it (Is 49:4). Loud
and clear, God's word to you is: "It is worth it." Growth in God's kingdom
is often not immediately noticeable (Mk 4:27). Even the growth we do see
begins small, like a mustard seed (Mk 4:31). Nonetheless, God is working.

"For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God bestowed
when my hands were laid on you" (2 Tm 1:6). "Stay with this task whether
convenient or inconvenient — correcting, reproving, appealing — constantly
teaching and never losing patience" (2 Tm 4:2). "Do not, then, surrender
your confidence; it will have great reward. You need patience to do God's
will and receive what He has promised" (Heb 10:35-36).

Prayer: Father, replace my regrets with joyful hopes.

Promise: "I thank God, the God of my forefathers Whom I worship with a
clear conscience, whenever I remember you in my prayers — as indeed I do
constantly, night and day." —2 Tm 1:3

Praise: "Thanks be to God, Who has put an equal zeal for you in the heart
of Titus!" (2 Cor 8:16)

(For a related teaching, order our tape "Hold Fast to the Faith" on audio
AV 71-1 or video V-71.)

Friday, January 25, 2008, Conversion of St. Paul

Acts 22:3-16 or, Acts 9:1-22, Psalm 117, Mark 16:15-18
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/012508.shtml

FINISHING LINE

"Saul, my brother, I have been sent by the Lord Jesus Who appeared to you
on the way here, to help you recover your sight and be filled with the
Holy Spirit." —Acts 9:17

On the way to Damascus, Saul saw a light flash around him. He fell to the
ground, heard Jesus' voice, and was struck blind (Acts 9:3, 4, 8). People
have similar experiences every day. We may not realize this because we
haven't been at the right place at the right time due to our disobedience.
The Lord is constantly shaking people up. This doesn't necessarily convert
them but prepares them to hear the gospel message.

The Lord calls Ananiases to finish the work He's begun (Acts 9:10, 15).
The Lord will put hundreds of fish at the side of the boat but we must
throw out the net (Lk 5:4-6). He will assemble outside our house thousands
of people from many nations but we must leave the upper room and go into
the streets (Acts 2:4). The Lord will get an Ethiopian eunuch to read the
Bible and drive by, but we must knock on his car door (Acts 8:29ff).

Jesus likes to use people to convert others to Him. He was already talking
to Saul. He could have converted Saul Himself, but He chose to work
through Ananias. He also wants to work through you. The Sauls are ready to
listen. Will you speak in Jesus' name?

Prayer: Jesus, may I never miss an opportunity to tell someone about You.

Promise: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news to all
creation." —Mk 16:15

Praise: "I have been crucified with Christ, and the life I live now is not
my own; Christ is living in me. I still live my human life, but it is a
life of faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me"
(Gal 2:19-20).

I Was The Product of a Rape

I was the product of a rape

Source: Baptist Press

Sandra was a 17-year-old girl who was with her mother and father on a vacation visiting family friends. The friends they were visiting had an 18-year-old son.

One evening both families decided to go down and look at the beautiful pond, but the son asked Sandra to stay back at the house. When all the family members were gone, he lured her into the utility room of their home where he raped her. Sandra did not tell anyone about this because she thought it was her fault. As a result of the rape, she became pregnant.

Many people in our society no doubt would tell her, "You need to have an abortion. You do not need to go through this. You are only 17." But even though Sandra had been violated and raped, she did not want to kill the life living inside her. She chose to have the baby. Nine months later, she had a six-and-a-half pound baby boy -- me.

My life verse is Genesis 50:20, which says, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Joseph's brothers had sold him into slavery, but God used that evil deed to place Joseph as second in command during the seven years of famine in
Egypt to save thousands of lives.

Similarly, God has also revealed to me and my mom that God can trump individuals' evil deeds to carry out His purpose and will. Satan tried to stop my birth and harm me. He desired for me to be aborted, but God had other plans.

I gave my life to Jesus when I was 8 years old and surrendered to the call God placed on my life at the age of 14 to preach the Gospel. I am a full-time evangelist with a bachelor's degree from the University of Mobile, a master of divinity with biblical language degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry in evangelism from Southwestern.

I have been traveling in evangelism now for 20 years, telling people all over the world about Jesus. We are blessed to see thousands of people come to Christ every year, from moms and dads to students to boys and girls. Lives are being changed all over the world, but this ministry would not be happening if my mother had chosen to have an abortion.

I am not here on this planet by accident, and neither are the people we share with every week. Every embryo that is conceived was formed and created by a loving God. We are valuable to Him, and He has an incredible plan for each life. Life should not and must not be stopped by a selfish human being, because God has a greater purpose.

God did not cause that evil deed to happen to my mom. That was one man's depraved mind and willful sin, but God turned it for the good in my life and in my mom's life. I know there are many people that feel this statement is a cliché, especially when they are in the midst of tremendous pain, but the Bible says in Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." The Bible doesn't say that everything that happens to us will be good, but that God will turn every circumstance around for our long-term good to fulfill His purpose.

When I was 3, my mom married a man named Jamie who adopted me and my brother, Allen. Jamie is my real dad, and I would have no other. Two years later, they had my youngest brother, Peyton. At the time, my mom was longing for peace in her life, and she found it in Jesus at the age of 26. A month later, I invited Christ into my life. As an 8-year-old boy, I began to pray for my dad to be saved. I did not want him to go to hell.

Two years later, God orchestrated some events that brought my dad to church with us four Sundays in a row. The final Sunday he gave his life to Christ. God began to move and work in his life. Our family life changed for the good. Another two years later, God called my dad to preach. My dad is now pastor of Cowboy Church of Brazoria, Texas, where hundreds of people have been saved under his ministry -- not to mention the fact that God called me to preach under my dad's ministry when I was 14.

God turns everything around for His good and perfect will.

If it had not been for my incredible mother who had a heart to go against society's "justified abortion," I would not be here, and my little boy, Jake, would not be here. As a result of my mom, Sandra, giving me life, I have shared my testimony all over the world with many women and girls who have been touched by our story.

Many have come up to me and shared that they were pregnant and were thinking about having an abortion but changed their minds because God spoke to them through my story to have the courage to continue the pregnancy. Women who had been raped and became pregnant as a result, like my mother, have introduced me to their little boy or girl who came out of that horrible experience. They were encouraged when I prayed over their little boy or girl, emphasizing that God has a plan for them, and that He is going to use them for His purpose and will.

"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives" (Genesis 50:20).

God is good. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

FULL-COURT PRESS

"My adversaries trample upon me all the day." —Psalm 56:3

Jesus was almost pushed into the Sea of Galilee by the press of the crowd.
He had to get into a fishing boat to protect Himself. "All who had
afflictions kept pushing toward Him to touch Him. Unclean spirits would
catch sight of Him, fling themselves at His feet, and shout" (Mk 3:10-11).
Jesus had a serious problem with crowd control. "It was no longer possible
for Jesus to enter a town openly. He stayed in desert places; yet people
kept coming to Him from all sides" (Mk 1:45).

Sometimes the crowd of thousands that gathered to hear Jesus was "so dense
that they were treading on one another" (Lk 12:1). Jesus was so pressed in
by the crowd that it was impossible to even get any food to Him (Mk 3:20).
In addition to pressure from crowds and demons, Jesus "was deeply grieved"
that the religious leaders "had closed their minds against Him" (Mk 3:5),
for the Pharisees and Herodians were plotting "how they might destroy Him"
(Mk 3:6).

If overwhelming crowds, shouting demons, and hateful plots weren't enough,
Jesus' family "came to take charge of Him, saying, 'He is out of His
mind'; while the scribes who arrived from Jerusalem asserted, 'He is
possessed by Beelzebul' " (Mk 3:21-22).

The superabundant love of Jesus' heart for all of us pressed on Him from
within. His indescribable love for each of us pressed Him to the wood of
the cross more than did the nails in His hands and feet. So press on and
carry the Good News of Jesus, Lord and Savior, to a hurting, depressed
world.

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me so much that You gave Your "Son,
that whoever believes in Him may not die but may have eternal life" (Jn
3:16).

Promise: "He had cured many." —Mk 3:10

Praise: St. Francis de Sales' Introduction to the Devout Life is still
prophetic after four hundred years.

THE SPIRIT AND THE GIANT

"I come against you in the name of the Lord." —1 Samuel 17:45

Yesterday was the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to legalize
abortion in the USA in 1973. The Church in today's eucharistic readings is
reminding us that the Lord is raising up Davids to fight the Goliath of
abortion. When Planned Parenthood sees the Davids approaching, they laugh
at us, for we are simple people without substantial funding and worldly
prestige. However, our strength is not in ourselves or in money but in the
Lord, and the Lord will give us victory (1 Sm 17:47).

To claim God's victory over abortion and save babies' lives in the womb,
we must attack the giant. We fight abortion not primarily with money,
weapons, or even David's slingshot, but with the sword of the Spirit. The
Spirit is our Weapon against the ultimate enemy and abortionist, Satan
himself (see Eph 6:12; see also Zec 4:6). In the power of the Spirit, we
can repent, forgive, evangelize, pray, fast, suffer, and heal. We can set
people free from the demons of abortion. We can not only stop abortions
but also convert abortionists. We will not kill Goliath but convert him.

We need faith to attack abortion, the most deadly enemy in the history of
the human race. By faith we can wield the sword of the Spirit and save the
lives of babies in the womb and the eternal lives of abortionists.

Prayer: Father, stir up the Spirit in me (2 Tm 1:6) and give me faith to
move the mountain of abortion (see Mt 17:20).

Promise: "Blessed be the Lord, my Rock, Who trains my hands for
battle." —Ps 144:1

Praise: One by one, Delores has seen abortion mills in front of which she
has prayed the rosary close their doors and go out of business.

tape on audio AV 46-3 or video V-46.)
