CHRISTIANS HAVE MORE THAN NINE LIVES

"Let us destroy the tree in its vigor; let us cut him off from the land of the living." -Jeremiah 11:19

The Lord informed Jeremiah (Jer 11:18) "of the evil done by the house of Israel and by the house of Judah" (Jer 11:17). Yet Jeremiah did not realize "that they were hatching plots against" him (Jer 11:19). Like Jeremiah, we know we live in a culture of death. We know that sin is not only committed but glorified. We even know that we have enemies and persecutors. Nonetheless, do we realize that the devil is "prowling like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour"? (1 Pt 5:8) But for the grace of God, we could be killed today. As "children of God beyond reproach in the midst of a twisted and depraved generation" (Phil 2:15), we are in extreme danger. If we only knew the thousands of times the Lord in His mercy has saved each of our lives, we would give our lives totally to Him and thank Him forever!

How shall we "make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done" for us? (Ps 116:12) Thank God for the gifts of life, His loving protection, victory over the evil one, peace, and eternal life. Worship the Lord in Spirit and truth (Jn 4:24). Tell everyone about the Lord. Rejoice in Him always (Phil 4:4). "Should anyone ask you the reason for this hope of yours, be ever ready to reply" (1 Pt 3:15). The Lord has repeatedly saved your life and given you eternal life. Live for love of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, "though a thousand fall" at my side, ten thousand at my right side, near me "it shall not come" (Ps 91:7).

Promise: "No man ever spoke like that before." -Jn 7:46

Praise: Steve woke up, unharmed, after falling asleep while driving. Deeply moved, he thanked God and renewed His commitment to Jesus.

(We invite you to attend a Life in the Spirit Seminar" retreat at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Retreat Center in Peebles, OH, April 21-23. For information or to register, call 937-587-5464 or 513-373-2397 or visit www.presentationministries.com.)

A TRIED STONE (see Is 28:16)

"Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the Lord delivers him." -Psalm 34:20

Our trials, rather than being wasted time and experiences that keep us from being fruitful for Jesus, are actually a means to purify us and make us more fruitful disciples. "There is cause for rejoicing here. You may for a time have to suffer the distress of many trials; but this is so that your faith, which is more precious than the passing splendor of fire-tried gold, may by its genuineness lead to praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ appears" (1 Pt 1:6-7). Those who try us with insults, oppositions, or challenges are actually helping us to grow in radical trust in Jesus.

"My brothers, count it pure joy when you are involved in every sort of trial. Realize that when your faith is tested this makes for endurance" (Jas 1:2-3). "When you come to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials. For in fire gold is tested, and worthy men in the crucible of humiliation" (Sir 2:1, 5).

"No test has been sent you that does not come to all men. Besides, God keeps his promise. He will not let you be tested beyond your strength. Along with the test he will give you a way out of it so that you may be able to endure it" (1 Cor 10:13). "Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the Lord delivers him" (Ps 34:20).

Prayer: Father, "I consider the sufferings of the present to be as nothing compared to the glory to be revealed in us" (Rm 8:18). May everything that happens to me work for Your good (Rm 8:28).

Promise: "The Lord redeems the lives of His servants; no one incurs guilt who takes refuge in Him." -Ps 34:23

Praise: Antonio persevered in faith and his marriage not only survived but thrives.

"THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE" (Jn 6:68) - One Bread, One Body, 3/30/2017

"THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE" (Jn 6:68)

"Search the Scriptures." -John 5:39

You are reading this book, One Bread, One Body, to "search the Scriptures in which you think you have eternal life" (Jn 5:39). You are right in your belief that the Scriptures will lead you to eternal life. "These [things] have been recorded to help you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, so that through this faith you may have life in His name" (Jn 20:31). "If you believed Moses," that is, the first part of the Bible, "you would then believe" Jesus because the first part of the Bible and the whole Bible are about Jesus (Jn 5:46). "But if you do not believe what" Moses wrote and what the other Biblical authors wrote, "how can you believe what" Jesus says? (Jn 5:47)

"Faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of God" (Rm 10:17, our transl). St. Jerome said: "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" (Catechism, 133). During this Lent, "humbly welcome the word that has taken root in you, with its power to save you" (Jas 1:21).

Prayer: Father, may I devote myself to the Church's teaching, especially in the Bible (see Acts 2:42).

Promise: "The Lord relented in the punishment He had threatened to inflict on His people." -Ex 32:14

Praise: Charles' life changed forever when by the grace of the Holy Spirit, he suddenly was able to read the Scripture with understanding.

THE TRUTH ABOUT DEATH - One Bread, One Body, 3/29/2017

Wednesday, March 29, 2017

THE TRUTH ABOUT DEATH

"I solemnly assure you, the man who hears My word and has faith in Him Who sent Me possesses eternal life." -John 5:24

We have been given the greatest treasure: eternal life in Jesus, Who is the Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25), our Lord, Savior, and God. Because we have been given the greatest treasure - eternal life through faith - we have the greatest responsibility. "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him" (Lk 12:48).

If we love people, we must tell those in our culture of death that death has lost its power (see Rm 6:9), victory, and sting (1 Cor 15:54-55). Jesus promised: "I solemnly assure you, an hour is coming, has indeed come, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who have heeded it shall live" (Jn 5:25). People no longer need be enslaved by the fear of death (Heb 2:15), "for an hour is coming in which all those in their tombs shall hear His voice and come forth" (Jn 5:28). This is the greatest news, and in love we must shout from the housetops (Mt 10:27) that Jesus' name is above every name, even the name of death (see Phil 2:9).

This Easter, let us renew our baptismal promises and be witnesses for the risen Christ (Acts 1:8). Walking in faith (2 Cor 5:7) and compelled by love (2 Cor 5:14), let us share the greatest treasure with a spiritually impoverished world. Jesus is risen! We can rise in Him! "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Cor 15:54). Proclaim the greatest news!

Prayer: Father, may I be willing to die so that others may live with You forever.

Promise: "Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you." -Is 49:15

Praise: Maria prays for all of her godchildren daily.

"RIVERS OF LIVING WATER" (Jn 7:38) - One Bread, One Body, 3/28/2017

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Ezekiel 47:1-9, 12, Psalm 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9, John 5:1-16
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032817.cfm

"RIVERS OF LIVING WATER" (Jn 7:38)

"I saw water flowing." -Ezekiel 47:1

Water trickled "from beneath the threshold of the temple toward the east" (Ez 47:1). This trickle became a great river which emptied into the sea and made the salt waters fresh (Ez 47:8-9). Wherever this river flowed, it brought abundant life (Ez 47:12). In today's psalm, the psalmist refers to "a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God" (Ps 46:5). Because God is present in His city and at this stream, this stream is a river of peace where the Lord stops "wars to the end of the earth" (Ps 46:10). Our Gospel reading mentions the water of the pool of Bethesda, a spiritual whirlpool which gave healing to the first person plunged into it after it was miraculously agitated (Jn 5:7).

The Church has chosen these Biblical readings about water to prepare us to renew our baptismal promises in two-and-a-half weeks. The waters of Baptism are much greater than Ezekiel's river of life, the psalmist's river of peace, or the healing pool of Bethesda. The waters of Baptism are greater than the flood waters at Noah's time, the waters of the Red Sea, and even the River Jordan in which Jesus was baptized. When we renew our baptismal promises, we reject Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises. We believe with all our hearts in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Thus we will know the life-giving, soul-saving, cleansing, freeing, and healing powers of the waters of Baptism. Prepare to make the greatest act of faith in your life.

Prayer: Father, I plunge and immerse myself in the waters of Your love.

Promise: "Remember, now, you have been cured. Give up your sins so that something worse may not overtake you." -Jn 5:14

Praise: When Steve was flat on his back in the emergency room, he began to understand suffering and the need to pray. He then dedicated himself to prayer for the suffering.

LET YOUR VOICE REJOICE - One Bread, One Body, 3/27/2017

LET YOUR VOICE REJOICE

"There shall always be rejoicing and happiness in what I create." -Isaiah 65:18

Sadly, in our modern secular culture, there isn't always rejoicing and happiness in what God creates. Many groan when God creates a new life in the womb. The following comments are routinely heard these days: "You're pregnant again?" "That baby has birth defects. You should abort it." "How will this world survive with so much overpopulation?" or "You ought to get that fixed." Most importantly, God creates people anew in Baptism and via constant conversions. "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation" (2 Cor 5:17). Nonetheless, there isn't always rejoicing and happiness in God's new creations. "So, you became a Christian and now you won't go out drinking with me anymore? Some friend you are!"

God's creation isn't flawed. Everything He makes reflects His glory and love. The problem is that many humans have a warped sense of values. If we aren't rejoicing over God's creation, we're listening to the wrong voices. The airwaves are filled with bad news; the Scriptures are full of "good news" (Mk 1:1, JB).

God is creating new heavens, a new earth (Is 65:17), and a new kingdom with newly recreated people. There will be no more weeping or grumbling (Is 65:19). So rejoice in the Lord and in His creation always (Phil 4:4). Don't linger in the company of scoffers (Ps 1:1). As you heard on Ash Wednesday, "repent and believe the good news." Rejoice always in God and His creation.

Prayer: Father, "at the works of Your hands I rejoice" (Ps 92:5).

Promise: "You took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my soul might sing praise to You without ceasing; O Lord, my God, forever will I give You thanks." -Ps 30:12-13

Praise: José led four co-workers to Jesus.

PM eNewsletter 4th Sunday of Lent

March 26, 2006 Fourth Sunday of Lent

Oh Christ, Lent is more than half over, and we are still so far from freeing ourselves of the
cares and concerns that we can't really change or control.

Help us to really let go and let You take complete charge of our lives.

Lift from us the anxiety and stress that stops us from being free to really love others.

Let us come to the reality of truth, that lets us know deep within our hearts, that You are the
real answer to all of our problems and fears.

Let us truly see You in the Breaking Of The Bread and adore Your absolute real presence.

Let us become new creations and on Easter Morning, rise anew with you.

Jesus, take charge of our lives, and give us Your peace and joy.

Thank you Jesus.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday SIGHT FOR SORE EYES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/26/2017

"Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart."
-1 Samuel 16:7

There is a human way of seeing and a divine way of seeing. Because we have been baptized into
Christ Who is God, we can share in God's divine way of seeing (see 2 Pt 1:4). However, we will have
"the eyes of our hearts" (Eph 1:18, our transl) enlightened by God only if we live our Baptisms.
This means:

-loving God, our brothers and sisters in Christ, our neighbors, and even our enemies, for "the man
who hates his brother is in darkness. He walks in shadows, not knowing where he is going, since the
dark has blinded his eyes" (1 Jn 2:11),
-rejecting worldly ways to avoid being blinded by the god of the present age (2 Cor 4:4), that is,
secular humanism,
-going to Confession regularly so as not to be blinded by sin,
-being rejected by those blind to their blindness (see Jn 9:22; 9:39-41),
-finally seeing Jesus as He is (1 Jn 3:2), and
-finally seeing God "face to face" (1 Cor 13:12).

"Jesus said: 'I came into this world to divide it, to make the sightless see and the seeing blind' "
(Jn 9:39). "But blest are your eyes because they see" (Mt 13:16).

Prayer: Father, when I renew my baptismal promises in three weeks, may I see in the fullness of my
baptismal graces.

Promise: "Awake, O sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." -Eph 5:14

Praise: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the
world."

Thanks, Jesus for bringing your children into my life.
(Anonymous, Omaha, NE, , 3/25/2017 6:33:26 PM)

Lord I ask that you keep my best friend and roommate with me here in Pittsburgh. He is looking to make
a move and I feel as he only doing this to please a family member as they want him to make this change.
I feel that he feels this is not the right move for him. He's moving would be heartbreaking and
devastating.
(Ian , Pittsburgh , Pa, United States, 3/25/2017 6:23:49 PM)

Please pray for many couples who have committed this weekend to healing their broken marriage through
a program called Retrouvaille. I pray, especially for my sponsor couple, that this will be a chance for
them to experience rediscovery, renewal, and God's perfect design for their marriage. Mother Mary, full
of grace, pray for us.
(Mary, United States, 3/25/2017 4:09:21 PM)

from protection from all evil for J and those seeking to assist him. For God to give him the grace,
faith, hope and love to make lasting changes in his life. for him to be freed and be allowed to heal
from a very ominous situation.
(Anonymous , , 3/25/2017 2:08:58 PM)

I have been unsuccessful in landing suitable employment, despite interviewing consistently (and being
advanced by search firms for very good positions). This situation has gone on for far too long, and I
am now no longer able to survive financially -- I need an immediate miracle. Please, please, please
pray for an IMMEDIATE resolution -- I cannot survive otherwise. Thank you.
(Anonymous, , 3/25/2017 1:50:47 PM)

Lord, I give thanks for this prayer room. It gives me a way to see others needs and say a prayer for
them too. I also would ask You Father, to please let my grandson hear from the people whom he applied
to for a job. He has been wanting to work for them for a long time. He has had one call back and is in
hopes of hearing from them today...they said it would be a week to 10 days before they'd make a
decision. Please Father, it would make him happy, save on gas and hopefully give him the chance to get
back into going to church on Sundays and singing in the choir again. Please bless him Father. In Jesus
name I pray to You my Father. Amen

CONVERSION GIFTS

LET THE SPIRIT LEAD

May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift
of God's word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers
and sisters in need.

SHARE WITH OTHERS

I encourage all the faithful to express this spiritual renewal ... by sharing in the Lenten
Campaigns promoted by many Church organizations in different parts of the world, and thus to
favor the culture of encounter in our one human family.

PRAY FOR EACH OTHER

Let us pray for one another so that, by sharing in the victory of Christ, we may open our doors
to the weak and poor. Then we will be able to experience and share the full joy of Easter.

SIGHT FOR SORE EYES - One Bread, One Body, 3/26/2017

Sunday, March 26, 2017, Fourth Sunday of Lent

1 Samuel 16:1, 6-7, 10-13, Ephesians 5:8-14, Psalm 23:1-6, John 9:1-41
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032617.cfm

SIGHT FOR SORE EYES

"Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart." -1 Samuel 16:7

There is a human way of seeing and a divine way of seeing. Because we have been baptized into Christ Who is God, we can share in God's divine way of seeing (see 2 Pt 1:4). However, we will have "the eyes of our hearts" (Eph 1:18, our transl) enlightened by God only if we live our Baptisms. This means:
* loving God, our brothers and sisters in Christ, our neighbors, and even our enemies, for "the man who hates his brother is in darkness. He walks in shadows, not knowing where he is going, since the dark has blinded his eyes" (1 Jn 2:11),
* rejecting worldly ways to avoid being blinded by the god of the present age (2 Cor 4:4), that is, secular humanism,
* going to Confession regularly so as not to be blinded by sin,
* being rejected by those blind to their blindness (see Jn 9:22; 9:39-41),
* finally seeing Jesus as He is (1 Jn 3:2), and
* finally seeing God "face to face" (1 Cor 13:12).

"Jesus said: 'I came into this world to divide it, to make the sightless see and the seeing blind' " (Jn 9:39). "But blest are your eyes because they see" (Mt 13:16).

Prayer: Father, when I renew my baptismal promises in three weeks, may I see in the fullness of my baptismal graces.

Promise: "Awake, O sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." -Eph 5:14

Praise: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world."

THE PEOPLE OF THE INCARNATION - One Bread, One Body, 3/25/2017

THE PEOPLE OF THE INCARNATION

"The angel answered her: 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy Offspring to be born will be called Son of God.' " -Luke 1:35

Nearly two thousand years ago, God became man. This made it possible for God to die. Dying made it possible for Him to rise from the dead. In this way, God saved us from sin, slavery, self-deception, self-hatred, alienation, death, Satan, and hell. The incarnate Jesus saved us for love, freedom, peace, communion, and eternal life. Consequently, God's Incarnation is the beginning of the greatest events in the history of the human race. This is why we count the years based on their distance from the Incarnation.

In the Catholic Church, we have the custom of recalling the Incarnation each day at 6 AM, 12 noon, and 6 PM by praying "The Angelus." When we pray the "Hail Mary" and the first mystery of the joyful mysteries of the rosary, we remember the Annunciation of Jesus' Incarnation. In addition to celebrating today's feast, we celebrate the Incarnation especially during the Christmas season. In fact, every time we receive Holy Communion we receive the incarnate God, for we receive His body and blood, soul and divinity. We are the people of the Incarnation. With Mary, may each of us say with our whole lives each day: "I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word" (Lk 1:38, our transl). Praise Jesus, God incarnate!

Prayer: Father, in thanksgiving, I offer You my body as a living sacrifice (Rm 12:1).

Promise: "By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." -Heb 10:10

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, the incarnate Word. Praise You, Jesus, incarnate love in mysterious humility!

UNINHIBITED LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 3/24/2017

Friday, March 24, 2017

Hosea 14:2-10, Psalm 81:6-11, 14, 17, Mark 12:28-34
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032417.cfm

UNINHIBITED LOVE

"I will love them freely." -Hosea 14:5

The Lord wants to love us freely. However, many of us are not open to the overflowing intimacy of God's love. Our sins have made us afraid of love. We are afraid to be encompassed in the consuming fire of God's love (Heb 12:29). Consequently, the Lord must heal our sinful defection (Hos 14:5) in order to freely communicate His love to us.

God, Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16), clears away our sins, the obstacles we place in the way of His love, by:
* convicting us of our sins (Jn 16:8),
* activating our guilt as a warning sign of our need to repent,
* assuring us Jesus is "an Offering for our sins, and not for our sins only, but for those of the whole world" (1 Jn 2:2),
* commanding us through His Church and her Bible (see Hos 14:2) to repent,
* commanding us to confess our sins to Him and to others (Jas 5:16), and
* delegating the apostles' successors, the bishops, to forgive our sins in His name (Jn 20:23) through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Be baptized and immersed in repentance (Mk 1:4) this Lent so you will plunge into the depths of God's love this Easter. Don't be afraid to let the crucified and risen Christ live and love in you.

Prayer: Father, love me any way You wish.

Promise: "Therefore you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." -Mk 12:30

Praise: Even though severely rebuked in front of others by another Christian, Anna accepted the grace of total forgiveness and treated that person with even greater kindness.

BODY LANGUAGE

"They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces, to Me." -Jeremiah 7:24

The prophet Jeremiah has described for us the physiology of sinners. In our sinful rebellion against the Lord, we harden our hearts, turn our backs to God, turn away our faces from God, and stiffen our necks (Jer 7:26). If we don't repent, the parts of our bodies become even more distorted and perverted. For example, the sinners who martyred Stephen were "stung to the heart," grinding their teeth, "shouting aloud," and "holding their hands over their ears" (Acts 7:54, 57).

This Lent and this Easter, look into the mirror of God's Word (see Jas 1:23). Look at your spiritual appearance. Is your face radiant? Are your feet beautiful? (Is 52:7) Is your forehead imprinted with the seal of the Lamb of God? (Rv 7:3) Do you have praying hands, lips without deceit (see Is 33:15), and a clean heart? (Ps 51:12) Is each part of your body a weapon for justice or for evil? (Rm 6:13) Repent. Be beautiful.

Prayer: Father, may my body always look like a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19).

Promise: "If it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of God is upon you." -Lk 11:20

Praise: St. Toribio, a law professor, became a bishop in Spain and a missionary to Native Americans.

CAREFUL OBEDIENCE

"Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations." -Deuteronomy 4:6

Because of their disobedience, the Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years. They may have assumed they were obeying God, but Moses warned them that they were not obeying carefully enough (Dt 4:6). Jesus' disciples probably thought they were obeying Him. However, Jesus proclaimed that He expected them to obey even the smallest part of a letter of the law (Mt 5:18; see also Ps 119:112). Then they were to obey the spirit of the law (2 Cor 3:6) and thereby usher in Christ's kingdom.

The Lord promised us total victory in which we bring down the strongholds, sophistries, and proud pretensions which raise themselves against the knowledge of God (2 Cor 10:4-5). We will be able to claim this victory when our obedience is perfect, that is, complete (2 Cor 10:6). When we are committed to obey the Lord in every area of life, we will quickly crush Satan under our feet (Rm 16:19-20).

What we call now "obedience" may be more disobedience than obedience. To enter the "promised land," live in God's kingdom, and claim total victory, we need an obedience in the Holy Spirit that is careful, strict, and complete. Then we will be great (Dt 4:6-7; Mt 5:19) and have a deep, intimate love for the Lord (see Dt 4:7). When we obey on a new, deeper level, we will live a new life.

Prayer: Father, through my obedience, raise me beyond my human limitations and weaknesses to the greatness to which You have called me.

Promise: "He sends forth His command to the earth; swiftly runs His word! He spreads snow like wool; frost He strews like ashes." -Ps 147:15-16

Praise: Patricia once prayed only on Sundays, but now prays several times a day, entrusting her life to Jesus.

"THE PATH TO PEACE" (Lk 19:42)

"Your ways, O Lord, make known to me; teach me Your paths." -Psalm 25:4

God first taught His ways to His people by giving them His Ten Commandments (Ex 20:1ff). His people lost their way, so God "tried again" (Jer 18:4). He sent them prophets to teach them His ways, and promised to write His laws and ways upon their hearts (Jer 31:33). God's people struggled to grasp His ways (Is 55:8).

God's next step was to send Jesus as a Teacher to teach us His ways and paths (Jn 3:16). Jesus taught us that God's way is to forgive repeatedly from the heart (Mt 18:35). Next, Jesus personally made known to us God's paths. He shouldered His cross and walked up the path to Calvary. In so doing, Jesus taught us God's path, the path of forgiveness, and God's way, the way of the cross. Like all good teachers, Jesus then summarized His lesson on God's way of forgiveness as He hung from His cross, saying, "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34). Jesus forgave those who were hurting Him far more than seventy times seven times (Mt 18:22). He forgives all sinners for all time.

The lesson "is finished" (Jn 19:30). Now it's time for the final exam. The Lord is testing you in the heat of the Lenten desert to determine if you are sincere about following His ways and His paths (see Dt 8:2; 13:4). As part of the forgiveness test, the Lord sends into your life people close enough to be able to hurt you more than seven times, such as a family member, associate, relative, or boss (Mt 18:21). Will you forgive them repeatedly from your heart? Follow the narrow path and pass the forgiveness test.

Prayer: Father, forgive me my trespasses in the same manner that I forgive those who trespass against me (Mt 6:12).

Promise: "Good and upright is the Lord; thus He shows sinners the way." -Ps 25:8

Praise: Although belittled at work, Edward treated his boss with respect and kindness.

JOSEPH, THE "IMPETUS"

"When Joseph awoke he did as the angel of the Lord had directed him and received her into his home as his wife." -Matthew 1:24

In 1870, "a difficult time in the Church's history, Pope Pius IX, wishing to place her under the powerful patronage of the holy patriarch Joseph, declared him 'Patron of the Catholic Church' " (Guardian of the Redeemer, Pope St. John Paul II, 28). In 1889, Pope Leo XIII explained further what the Holy Spirit was doing through Pope Pius IX nineteen years previously: "In the same way that he (Joseph) once kept unceasing holy watch over the family of Nazareth, so now does he protect and defend with his heavenly patronage the Church of Christ" (ibid, 28). Moreover, Pope St. John Paul II, on the hundredth anniversary of Pope Leo's teaching on Joseph, taught: Joseph's "patronage must be invoked as ever necessary for the Church, not only as a defense against all dangers, but also, and indeed primarily, as an impetus for her renewed commitment to evangelization in the world" (Guardian of the Redeemer, 29). Thus, St. Joseph is patron of the Church as her guardian and as "an impetus for her renewed commitment to evangelization."

In his fatherly love for the members of the Church, St. Joseph calls us to complete obedience, particularly to a "renewed commitment to evangelization." If you love Jesus and St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus and patron of the Church, let St. Joseph be an impetus to evangelize zealously.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to teach me St. Joseph's part in Your plan of salvation.

Promise: "All depends on faith, everything is grace. Thus the promise holds true for all Abraham's descendants." -Rm 4:16

Praise: Throughout his life, St. Joseph behaved exactly as "the Lord had directed him" (Mt 1:24). Praise You, Lord, for St. Joseph, the man of faith.

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday of Lent

March 19th, Third Sunday of Lent

This week, oh! Jesus, Your church celebrates the Feast day of St. Joseph and the Annunciation.

As husband of Mary, our mother, and foster father of Jesus. Joseph is the quiet, yet powerful,
leader of the holy family.

His trust in God saved his son, and lead his family through the silent years of scripture.

His words are not said, but his actions speak louder than words.

The Annunciation, Mary's accepting the path of life that made her the mother of God.

This week, St. Gabriel, the archangel, came and told Mary that she could change the worlds path
of history, if she would accept the role of being the mother of Jesus.

Her words of acceptance started salvation history for all of us.

Thank You Jesus, for so great a mother who was so willing to trust the Fathers plan for us all.

Help us to imitate St.Joseph, and truly trust You as Mary does.

Help us all also follow the plan You have for each of us.

Help us to truly see You in the breaking of the bread, and let us give all that we are to You
to guide.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday DRINK AND TELL
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/19/2017

"The woman then left her water jar and went off into the town." -John 4:28

A Samaritan woman brought her water jar to the town well to fill it with water (Jn 4:7). Jesus,
sitting by the well, offered her living water instead (Jn 4:10). Jesus told her: "Whoever drinks
the water I give him will never be thirsty; no, the water I give shall become a fountain within
him, leaping up to provide eternal life" (Jn 4:14). The woman, filled with the flowing water of
the Spirit, forgot all about well water, and simply left her water jar sitting by the well. Her
only concern was to tell others about Jesus (Jn 4:28).

God created human beings to be physically and spiritually thirsty. We need to physically drink
every day, and need to spiritually drink even more frequently. Even the most hard-hearted are
thirsty for Jesus' living water, whether or not they recognize it. Once the Samaritan woman
drank of Jesus' living water, she couldn't help but bring that water to others. Likewise, it's
up to us to give God's thirsty people a drink of Jesus' living water.

The Samaritan woman teaches us that when we drink fully of the water Jesus offers, we will start
evangelizing. We'll be so filled with living water that we won't be able to help it. If we're
not evangelizing, it's likely a symptom that we're getting spiritually dehydrated. Jesus says:
"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me; let him drink who believes in Me. Scripture has it:
'From within him rivers of living water shall flow' " (Jn 7:37-38). Come to Jesus; drink deeply;
tell the world about Him.

Prayer: Jesus, immerse me in Your living waters. "Water from the side of Christ, wash me."

Promise: "Doing the will of Him Who sent Me and bringing His work to completion is My food."
-Jn 4:34

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, the crucified Resurrection and the Life! (Jn 11:25). You are "the
Author of Life" (Acts 3:15).

PM Internet Prayer Requests
http://www.presentationministries.com/prayer/prayer.asp

Thank you God my almighty Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth my lord and savior, and thank you my
Holy Spirit for all that I got and that you have given me. In Jesus mighty name, I've prayed.
Amen!
(Fernando, Elgin, IL, , 3/18/2017 6:12:26 PM)

Father, we ask that You go before EB and surround her with Your Love and Angels. Protect her from
any breakdown, flat tires, bad traffic, bad weather, any delays, or evil and bring her home safely.
Thank You God, Amen.
(Carol, Arizona, , 3/18/2017 2:53:30 PM)

Encouragement for the brethren, O' Lord. Encouragement for the simple and humble lovers of Christ's
Sacred Heart. One day at a time, our daily bread. Amen.
(Anonymous, , 3/18/2017 2:33:49 PM)

Father, please heal my family and bring us back together. May this Easter be the healing that was
meant for us all. My husbands car broke down last week and he had to leave it at the garage till we
could find somewhere else where they could work on it. He went this morning to move it to another
garage which told him to be there between 8AM and 5PM. He did as they told him. They weren't opened,
but he said the car seemed to be working ok again. My thoughts...You took care of it for us! It was
going to cost $4000 (estimate) to fix it. He said where they took the axel out...maybe it did
something. I said, give Thanks to God...because I know You fixed it. Even if just until we get back
on our feet or can afford to trade it...I give You the glory. Thank You Father, In Jesus name I
pray and give You thanks. Amen
(Anonymous, , 3/18/2017 2:10:32 PM)

I come to You Father by way of Your most Holy Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him all things are possible,
this is what I believe. My grandson is on his way to a job interview. It's a job he's wanted for a
while. He's young and worked many jobs to have money for gas etc. while in school. Still in college,
he is needing a little more money. Please stand beside him as he is interviewed. He is always
nervous but seems much more so today. Calm him please and let him be confident and respectful. It's
much closer to home and he won't have to work so late at night. Father if it be Your will please
heal him of certain problems he deals with every day. Help and guide him to overcome all obstacles
in life. Please be with him today and always. In the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord, I
pray. Amen

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

CONVERSION GIFTS

"OPENING THE DOORS"

Lent is a favorable season for opening the doors to all in need and recognizing in them the face
of Christ. Each of us meets people like this every day. Each life we encounter is a gift
deserving acceptance, respect and love. The word of God helps us to open our eyes to welcome and
love life especially when it is weak and vulnerable.

"ALIVE AND POWERFUL"

The word of God is alive and powerful, capable of converting hearts and leading them back to God.
When we close our heart to the gift of God's word, we end up closing our heart to the gift of
our brothers and sisters.

THE TIME IS NOW

Lent is the favorable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in His word, in the
sacraments and in our neighbor.

DRINK AND TELL

"The woman then left her water jar and went off into the town." -John 4:28

A Samaritan woman brought her water jar to the town well to fill it with water (Jn 4:7). Jesus, sitting by the well, offered her living water instead (Jn 4:10). Jesus told her: "Whoever drinks the water I give him will never be thirsty; no, the water I give shall become a fountain within him, leaping up to provide eternal life" (Jn 4:14). The woman, filled with the flowing water of the Spirit, forgot all about well water, and simply left her water jar sitting by the well. Her only concern was to tell others about Jesus (Jn 4:28).

God created human beings to be physically and spiritually thirsty. We need to physically drink every day, and need to spiritually drink even more frequently. Even the most hard-hearted are thirsty for Jesus' living water, whether or not they recognize it. Once the Samaritan woman drank of Jesus' living water, she couldn't help but bring that water to others. Likewise, it's up to us to give God's thirsty people a drink of Jesus' living water.

The Samaritan woman teaches us that when we drink fully of the water Jesus offers, we will start evangelizing. We'll be so filled with living water that we won't be able to help it. If we're not evangelizing, it's likely a symptom that we're getting spiritually dehydrated. Jesus says: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me; let him drink who believes in Me. Scripture has it: 'From within him rivers of living water shall flow' " (Jn 7:37-38). Come to Jesus; drink deeply; tell the world about Him.

Prayer: Jesus, immerse me in Your living waters. "Water from the side of Christ, wash me."

Promise: "Doing the will of Him Who sent Me and bringing His work to completion is My food." -Jn 4:34

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, the crucified Resurrection and the Life! (Jn 11:25). You are "the Author of Life" (Acts 3:15).

THE PRODIGAL BROTHER

"The son grew angry at this and would not go in; but his father came out and began to plead with him." -Luke 15:28

We always hear about the prodigal son, but his older brother was at least as prodigal. The older brother looked good but was just as alienated from his father as the younger brother. The younger brother did not feel worthy to be called his father's son (Lk 15:18). However, the older brother spoke of life with his father as slavery (Lk 15:29). He did not know that everything his father had was available to him (Lk 15:31). The older son felt resentful his father had never given him "so much as a kid goat" (Lk 15:29).

Many Christians today are like the older son. We appear to never disobey one of God the Father's orders (Lk 15:29). We are church-goers, good citizens, and hard workers. Our vices are socially acceptable. We look good, but aren't in a good relationship with our heavenly Father. We're not cheerfully serving God but begrudgingly slaving for Him out of fear, habit, or social pressures. Our Father has come out and is pleading with us to accept a personal relationship with Him. Say "Yes" this Lent.

Prayer: Father, may I let the world know I'm happy to be Your child.

Promise: He "does not persist in anger forever, but delights rather in clemency, and will again have compassion on us, treading underfoot our guilt." -Mi 7:18-19

Praise: St. Cyril, though exiled more than once, faithfully pastored his flock. His lessons to new converts, written in the fourth century, survive today and have led the Church to proclaim Cyril as a Doctor of the Church.

HOPING WHEN LIFE IS THE WORST

"The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Keystone of the structure. It was the Lord Who did this and we find it marvelous to behold." -Matthew 21:42

If we repent in our sinfulness, slavery, and misery, the Lord will take the worst in our lives and make it the best. The Lord manifests His almighty power not just by doing great works but by making the greatest miracles out of the worst sins, injustices, and defeats. "God makes all things work together for the good" of those who love Him (Rm 8:28).

Joseph's brothers decided to murder him. Then they changed their plans from murdering him to starving him and finally to selling him into slavery. The brothers agreed to lie to their father about Joseph's death and thereby broke their father's heart. This was a gross evil. The Lord turned this to the good by raising up Joseph into one of the most powerful people in the world. He saved the lives of countless thousands of people (including his own family) from starvation. Ironically, Joseph, who was almost left to starve to death, saved many countries from starving to death.

The worst evil ever perpetrated and the focal point of every sin that has ever or will ever be committed is Jesus' Passion and death. The Lord took this absolute worst to bring about the ultimate best - the salvation of the whole world.

If you are in the worst of times, there may be reason for you to be even more hopeful. "Rejoice in hope" (Rm 12:12).

Prayer: Father, this Lent may hope well up inside me as never before.

Promise: "The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free. He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions." -Ps 105:20-21

Praise: St. Patrick's enslavement converted a nation. He prayed that whenever people thought of him, they would be prompted to think of Christ.

THE HEART SPECIALIST

"More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?" -Jeremiah 17:9

Because the human heart is more tortuous, twisted, and deceitful than all else and is beyond remedy, we should:
* give our hearts to the Lord, Who alone probes the mind and tests the heart (Jer 17:10),
* receive a new heart through Baptism (Ez 36:26),
* live our Baptism by loving the Lord with all our hearts (Mt 22:37),
* go to Confession frequently and regularly to prevent our hearts from becoming hardened (see Ps 95:8),
* learn from Jesus, for He is "gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29),
* ask the Lord to heal our hearts, for He "is close to the brokenhearted" (Ps 34:19),
* worship the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and
* ask for the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Next Sunday at Mass, the Church will pray the "First Scrutiny" for hundreds of thousands of catechumens throughout the world. In this ancient prayer, we pray for the Lord to search, purify, heal, and strengthen the hearts of the catechumens. Let us pray this prayer also for our own hearts. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me!

Prayer: Father, thank You for the pierced heart of Jesus (see Jn 19:34).

Promise: "He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade." -Ps 1:3

Praise: Carol turned to the Lord when her husband died, as they had done together while he lived.

(Get your fill of the Holy Spirit with the retreat "Life in the Spirit and Gifts of the Spirit", April 21-23. The beauty and peace of our Retreat Center in Adams County, Ohio is an ideal setting to connect with the Lord. Call 513-373-2397 or visit our website to register or for questions.)
