PM eNewsletter Second Sunday of Lent

February 28th Second Sunday of Lent

Jesus, thank You for giving Your church the understanding to have
this season of Lent.

Thank You Jesus, for the opportunity this gives us to truly look at
ourselves and see what needs to be improved and changed.

Jesus, we can learn to control, but only You can change us.

Jesus, bring us to Your Body in adoration and let us sit and learn.

Let us pray and grow.

Let us feel Your peace and accept You truly as our Lord and God.

Thank You Jesus, for the Eucharist. Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday TRANSFIGURED HOPE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=2/28/2010

"While He was praying, His face changed in appearance and His clothes
became dazzlingly white." —Luke 9:29

On the second Sunday of Lent, we always focus on Jesus'
Transfiguration. We begin Lent in the desert (Lk 4:1), quickly climb
Transfiguration Mountain, and quickly return to the desert. We end
Lent on the verge of climbing Mount Calvary on the way to the cross.

Today marks the highest point of Lent. We will not return to this
elevation until we celebrate Jesus' Resurrection and Ascension. Today
Jesus chooses us to climb Transfiguration Mountain. Here we see the
glory of Jesus and the glory of heaven. Because of this experience, we
can assure those struggling through Lent and through life that the
sufferings of the present are "as nothing compared with the glory to
be revealed in us" (Rm 8:18). We can tell the world that, no matter how
long we spend in the desert or how painful the climb up Mount Calvary,
Jesus "will give a new form to this lowly body of ours and remake it
according to the pattern of His glorified body, by His power to subject
everything to Himself" (Phil 3:21). Despite Satan tempting us in our
Lenten desert, in Jesus our victory is assured and our future glorious.

Because of the Transfiguration, we are filled with hope that will not
leave us disappointed (Rm 5:5). The roughest Lent will result in the
most glorious Easter. The transfigured Christ is the hope and promise
of the risen Christ. Praise Jesus!

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/BST/bst2009-08.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

PEACE AND CREATION

"IMMENSE CONSEQUENCE"

Respect for creation is of immense consequence, not least because
"creation is the beginning and foundation of all God's works, "
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 198) and its preservation has now
become essential for the pacific coexistence of mankind.

DISRUPTED HARMONY

The harmony between the Creator, mankind and the created world ...
was disrupted by the sin of Adam and Eve, by man and woman, who
wanted to take the place of God and refused to acknowledge that
they were His creatures.

"CHILLING PROSPECTS"

The ecological problem must be dealt with not only because of the
chilling prospects of environmental degradation on the horizon; the
real motivation must be the quest for authentic world-wide solidarity
inspired by the values of charity, justice and the common good.

Prayer: Father, motivate me by hope (Col 1:4).

Promise: "Abram put his faith in the Lord, Who credited it to him as an
act of righteousness." —Gn 15:6

Praise: Praise You, transfigured Jesus, "dazzling as the sun...radiant as
light" (Mt 17:2). Your glory leads us to the Father.

REIGN-Y DAYS - One Bread, One Body, 2/27/2010

REIGN-Y DAYS

"He rains on the just and the unjust." —Matthew 5:45

Once a teenager deliberately disobeyed her mother's midnight curfew and
tiptoed into her house several hours later. Expecting a severe conflict,
she entered her bedroom to find her bed neatly made, the sheets and
blankets arranged the way she liked, and her favorite candy bar on her
pillow. Stunned by this expression of unexpected love, she couldn't sleep.
Weeping uncontrollably, all she could do was think of how much God and her
mother loved her. That night, she surrendered her heart to Jesus and asked
Him to be Lord of her life.

This mother was imitating God, Who pours down gentle, life-sustaining
rains on those who don't deserve His love (Mt 5:45). God sustains and
blesses those who hate Him. This is like a continuous flow of water over a
hard rock. The water relentlessly probes the rock for a crack. It may take
many years, but eventually the water will split the rock and polish it
smooth.

"Love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8). "There is no limit to love's forbearance,
to its trust, its hope, its power to endure" (1 Cor 13:7). When we love
our enemies perfectly, as our Father loves them (Mt 5:44-45), God's love
will reach their hearts (Rm 12:20), even if it seems like there is no sign
of change.

How can we love those who hate us? Well, God's rain also falls on us, "the
just" (Mt 5:45). "The love of God has been poured out in our hearts
through the Holy Spirit" (Rm 5:5). "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22).
"Love your enemies" (Mt 5:44). "Prove that you are" children of God (Mt
5:45).

Prayer: Father, make me perfect in love (Mt 5:48).

Promise: "Today the Lord is making this agreement with you: you are to be
a people peculiarly His own." —Dt 26:18

Praise: Every time Hannah thought of the person who unjustly attacked her,
she prayed a Hail Mary for her.

TURN OUT RIGHT IN THE END - One Bread, One Body, 2/26/2010

Ezekiel 18:21-28, Psalm 130:1-8, Matthew 5:20-26
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/022610.shtml

TURN OUT RIGHT IN THE END

"If the virtuous man turns from the path of virtue to do evil, ...can he
do this and still live? None of his virtuous deeds shall be remembered,
because he has broken faith and committed sin; because of this, he shall
die." —Ezekiel 18:24

The year 2002 was notable for the uncovering of sexual abuse scandals
involving certain Roman Catholic priests. Upon hearing the breaking
stories, most people reacted like God did in the above passage. Any good
deeds done by these priests were forgotten. They were generally condemned
by the public because they had turned from virtue to commit evil.

Most people who have experienced their spouse leaving them for another
person would have a similar reaction. Most good memories of the marriage
would be forgotten because the departing spouse turned from faithfulness
to break the covenant.

If we can react like this to the bad endings of others, then we can't
accuse God of being unfair when he uses a similar standard to judge us (Ez
18:25). God holds us, His children, to the highest standards of holiness
and faithfulness (Mt 5:20). Yet God pours out unending supplies of grace
so that we can repent and not only meet His standards, but flourish and
grow in holiness (Eph 1:3).

If you are falling short of God's standards, turn back to Him (Is 45:22).
"Delay not your conversion to the Lord, put it not off from day to day"
(Sir 5:8). "When you have sinned, show repentance. Delay not to forsake
sins, neglect it not till you are in distress" (Sir 18:20-21). "Now is the
acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2) Turn and return
to the Lord.

Prayer: Father, I throw myself on Your mercy. Cleanse me of sin.

Promise: "With the Lord is kindness and with Him is plenteous
redemption." —Ps 130:7

Praise: After receiving the Holy Spirit in a Life in the Spirit seminar,
Jason repented of years of viewing pornography, and now praises God to be
able to live in purity.

MASS REPENTANCE - One Bread, One Body, 2/24/2010

For Lent read our brochure entitled, "Lent and the Renewal of Our
Baptismal Promises"

Jonah 3:1-10, Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 18-19, Luke 11:29-32
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/022410.shtml

MASS REPENTANCE

"Now Nineveh was an enormously large city." —Jonah 3:3

Picture the president of the United States dressed not in a fine suit but
covered with sackcloth, and sitting not at a conference table but in a
pile of ashes (Jon 3:6). Imagine the members of the Congress and Senate
dressed also in sackcloth and sitting in ashes. Picture the whole
country — both man and beast — covered with sackcloth and sitting in ashes
(Jon 3:8). Imagine no one eating or drinking anything, and the animals
complaining accordingly (Jon 3:7-8). What a scene! What noise! What
repentance! What grace and mercy!

The repentance of 120,000 people came about through the prophetic message
of the reluctant, vindictive prophet, Jonah. This mass repentance by the
Ninevites shows that the Lord can do anything. He can change the hardest
hearts — even hundreds of thousands of the hardest hearts — and do it in
one day through a person who doesn't even want people to repent and be
saved.

Even if we've never seen mass repentance and can think of a thousand
obstacles to God's grace, the Lord can surprise us, especially in the
worst of circumstances. Expect the Lord to do the impossible this Lent.
Expect the world to be surprisingly transformed this Lent. His grace is
sufficient (2 Cor 12:9).

Prayer: Father, do internationally and locally what I've never dreamed
possible.

Promise: "Have mercy on me, O God, in Your goodness; in the greatness of
Your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and
of my sin cleanse me." —Ps 51:3-4

Praise: Maria follows the promptings of the Holy Spirit and prays for the
conversion of China.

THE BEST LENT OF ALL

"It shall not return to Me void." —Isaiah 55:11

Lent is less than a week old. Today is our sixth day of fasting (not
counting Sunday). Have you had a good start to Lent or are you still
celebrating Mardi Gras? Last Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, the Lord commanded
us through His word and His Church to give alms, pray, and fast (Mt
6:1ff). Have you obeyed? If you've had a good start to Lent, thank the
Lord and pray for perseverance. If you've ignored and disobeyed the Lord,
repent and begin Lent now.

This Lent, God's word will do His will for some people and achieve the end
for which the Lord sent it (Is 55:11). Yet will you be among those
transformed by God's grace this Lent? Will this Lent be the springtime of
your life in the Spirit or a continuation of a cold, grim spiritual
winter?

We all want to say this Lent will make a difference for ourselves and our
world, but we've said that before. Our good intentions seem ruined
repeatedly by our human weakness. The good news, however, is that Jesus
not only commands us to obey Him this Lent, but also gives us the power to
obey. This Lent can be the best Lent of your life. "He Who calls us is
trustworthy, therefore He will do it" (1 Thes 5:24).

Prayer: Father, Your will be done this Lent as it is in heaven (see Mt
6:10).

Promise: "If you forgive the faults of others, your heavenly Father will
forgive you yours. If you do not forgive others, neither will your Father
forgive you." —Mt 6:14-15

Praise: When asked by his executioners to renounce Jesus, St. Polycarp
spoke for Christ by saying, "For 86 years I have been His servant and He
has never done me wrong." He accepted his martyrdom as Jesus accepted His
cross.

POPE-LESS EXPERIMENTS

"Jesus replied, 'Blest are you, Simon son of Jonah! No mere man has
revealed this to you, but My heavenly Father. I for My part declare to
you, you are "Rock," and on this rock I will build My church, and the jaws
of death shall not prevail against it.' " —Matthew 16:17-18

The Holy Spirit is the Source of unity (Eph 4:3). God's plan of salvation
is "to bring all things in the heavens and on earth into one under
Christ's headship" (Eph 1:10). "There is but one body and one Spirit, just
as there is but one hope given all of you by your call. There is one Lord,
one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, Who is over all, and
works through all, and is in all" (Eph 4:4-6). Jesus is praying that we
would be one as He and the Father are one (Jn 17:21).

However, despite the Holy Trinity's insistence on unity, the Church, the
body of Christ, is severely disunited. We believe in the same God, Lord,
Spirit, and Scriptures, but this has not restored our unity. Has the Lord
provided anything else to preserve and restore the unity of His body?

It seems as if we need the pope. Eastern Orthodox Christians have tried to
do without a pope for about 1,000 years. Protestants have gone without a
pope for almost 500 years. These two extended experiments have not been
altogether successful. Eastern Orthodoxy has not grown to evangelize the
world. Protestantism has been fragmented into thousands of separate
groups. We seem to need a pope. We need to accept Peter, the rock on which
Christ promised to build His Church (Mt 16:18).

Prayer: Jesus, Foundation of the Church (1 Cor 3:11), may I accept in
practical ways Your choice of Peter and his successors as leaders of Your
Church.

Promise: "Be examples to the flock, not lording it over those assigned to
you, so that when the chief Shepherd appears you will win for yourselves
the unfading crown of glory." —1 Pt 5:3-4

Praise: "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, He Who in
His great mercy gave us new birth" (1 Pt 1:3).

PM eNewsletter The First Sunday of Lent

February 21st The First Sunday of Lent

Jesus, this week we celebrate the feast day of the chair of St. Peter.

Thank You, Jesus, for starting Your church that we may have the
leadership that is necessary to keep us on the way to Your heavenly
kingdom.

We, as Catholics, are so blessed to have the Pope, bishops, priests
and deacons to guide us always to You.

We have the dogmas that define our beliefs, and we have the catechism
that lays it all out for us.

Your church is truly a guide to You.

Let us pray for all our leaders.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday FAST FROM FOOD, FEAST ON THE BIBLE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=2/21/2010

"The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart." —Romans 10:8; see
also Deuteronomy 30:14

Lent is a time of fasting, but Lent is not a time of famine — that is, a
famine for the word of God (compare Am 8:11). Yes, give up food for
fasting, but also begin a feast: a feast for the Word of God. Feast daily
on the Bible this Lent. Through daily Bible reading:

you won't be as hungry for food, for God's word will feed you and satisfy
your hunger (Mt 4:4),

you will experience the power of Scripture to lead to conversion and
salvation for both yourself and those with whom you share it (Rm 1:16),

you are set free to overcome temptation and the devil through the power
of the Holy Spirit wielding God's Word through you (see Jn 8:31-32; Eph
6:17; Mt 4:4-11),

you will know Jesus more deeply, for "ignorance of the Scriptures is
ignorance of Christ" (Catechism, 133), and

you will store the words of the Bible in your heart to help avoid sin (Ps
119:11).

This Lent and all your life, the devil will tempt you to stay away from
daily Scripture reading. Defeat Satan by reading extra passages of the
Bible each day in Lent (see Acts 17:11). Let your Lenten Scripture
feasting
be a foreshadowing of the heavenly feast (Rv 19:9).

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

PEACE AND CREATION

"URGENT CHALLENGE"

Protecting the natural environment in order to build a world of peace
is ... a duty incumbent upon each and all. It is an urgent challenge,
one to be faced with renewed and concerted commitment; it is also a
providential opportunity to hand down to coming generation the
prospect of a better future for all.

"FERVENT PRAYER"

I invite all believers to raise a fervent prayer to God ... so that all
men
and women may take to heart the urgent appeal: If you want to
cultivate peace, protect creation.

LEVIS - One Bread, One Body, 2/20/2010

We have been having a little trouble with our email and website recently.
So please pray for us that our issues will be resolved quickly. Thanks.

LEVIS

Jesus "saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his customs post." —Luke
5:27

How dramatically can the Lord transform a person during Lent? Levi may be
the answer to this question. After Levi left his job as tax collector to
follow Jesus (Lk 5:28), Jesus changed Levi's name to Matthew. Levi means:
"He will be attached" (Gn 29:34). Matthew means "gift of Yahweh." We can
speculate about the details of the name-change, but it was clearly a
change for the better. Jesus changed Matthew's heart (Lk 5:32), forgave
him, and filled him with the Holy Spirit. Matthew compiled a Gospel.
Tradition has it that he was martyred in his love for Jesus. With the
apostles, he became part of the foundation of the Church (Eph 2:20; Rv
21:14). Matthew is a saint in heaven. He sees Jesus face to face (1 Cor
13:12).

The Lord very dramatically transformed Matthew's life. He also wants to
transform each of us. In the remaining thirty-seven days of Lent, Jesus
desires to transform us "from glory to glory into His very image" (2 Cor
3:18). He wants to make us holy as He is holy (1 Pt 1:16) and perfect as
He is perfect (Mt 5:48). He promises to make us "perfect in holiness" (1
Thes 5:23). In fact, by His grace, we will "become the very holiness of
God" (2 Cor 5:21) and "sharers of the divine nature" (2 Pt 1:4). "He Who
calls us is trustworthy, therefore He will do it" (1 Thes 5:24). Happy
Lent!

Prayer: Father Potter (Is 64:7), mold me in the next thirty-seven days of
Lent into one of Your masterpieces.

Promise: "You shall delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the
heights of the earth." —Is 58:14

Praise: Jesus healed young Larry of severe asthma when several adults
prayed over him.

ASCENDING FAST - One Bread, One Body, 2/19/2010

For Lent read our brochure entitled, "The Secret of Fasting"

http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/SecretFasting.asp

Isaiah 58:1-9, Psalm 51:3-6, 18-19, Matthew 9:14-15
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/021910.shtml

ASCENDING FAST

"Would that today you might fast so as to make your voice heard on
high!" —Isaiah 58:4

On this third day of Lent, we again have the privilege of fasting in
imitation of Jesus. Jesus stated that His disciples would fast after His
physical body was taken away, that is, after His ascension (Mt 9:15).
Thus, fasting in the New Testament is associated with Jesus' ascension.
When we fast, we have an "immeasurable scope of power," which is "like the
strength" God the Father "showed in raising Christ from the dead and
seating Him at His right hand in heaven" (Eph 1:19-20).

The power of fasting is like the power of Jesus' ascension. When we fast,
we have the power of "releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs
of the yoke; setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke" (Is 58:6).
This is only the beginning. Fasting will lead to provision for the poor,
light breaking forth, quick healing, vindication, glory, prayer-power,
guidance, abundance, strength, the rebuilding of ancient ruins, the
restoration of ruined homesteads, delight, and nourishment (Is 58:7-14).

Fasting is powerful and catalytic, as was Jesus' ascension. Therefore, it
is a privilege to fast. Because of our God-given opportunity to fast, we
don't have to be so frustrated by our human limitations. For example, by
fasting, we can impact Russia and China. By fasting, we can accelerate
situations which seem to be "taking forever." By fasting, we can penetrate
the hardest hearts. Because of the ascension power of fasting, our lives
are not so much frustrated, but fulfilled.

Prayer: Father, I thank You not only for my food, but especially for my
fasting.

Promise: "Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound
shall quickly be healed." —Is 58:8

Praise: Fasting brought George healing by revealing to him where his
priorities ought to be. He changed his lifestyle and found greater joy in
Jesus.

CHOOSING AND LOSING - One Bread, One Body, 2/18/2010

For Lent read our brochure entitled, "The Secret of Fasting"

http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/SecretFasting.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Deuteronomy 30:15-20, Psalm 1:1-4, 6, Luke 9:22-25
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/021810.shtml

CHOOSING AND LOSING

"Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the
Lord, your God, heeding His voice, and holding fast to Him." —Deuteronomy
30:19-20

"Pro-choice" today means choosing to do what you want, even to the point
of violating the rights of babies by killing them through abortion.
"Pro-choice" means you choose to deprive babies of all choices, even the
choice to live.

However, the Lord commands us to choose life, not selfishness and the
deaths of others. We choose life by choosing obedience to the Lord (Dt
30:20). Ultimately, we choose life by choosing to lose our lives (Lk
9:24), that is, to deny ourselves, take up Jesus' cross each day, and
follow in His steps (Lk 9:23). Thus, Jesus chose life by choosing to obey
His Father and die on the cross for love of us. God understands
"pro-choice" to mean obedience, not selfishness, and dying to self rather
than taking the lives of others.

Are we "pro-choice" according to Planned Parenthood's propaganda or
according to God's word? Even if we have never had an abortion or
participated in one, we can be the "pro-choice" of Planned Parenthood if
we're not obeying the Lord and denying ourselves. If we are not following
the crucified Jesus, we may be unknowingly following the spirit of Planned
Parenthood. Choose Jesus, Who is Life (Jn 14:6).

Prayer: Father, by Your grace I choose life, obedience, dying to self, the
cross, and Jesus.

Promise: "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his
life for My sake will save it." —Lk 9:24

Praise: Ann, a nursing student, refused to administer a birth-control shot
even though her professor required her to do so. She chose to obey Jesus,
no matter the consequences.

NOW, NOW, NOW - One Bread, One Body, 2/17/2010

For Lent follow our Bible reading schedule called, "A Prophetic Lent"

http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/APropheticLent.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 17, 2010, Ash Wednesday

Joel 2:12-18, 2 Corinthians 5:20—6:2, Psalm 51:3-6, 12-14, 17, Matthew
6:1-6, 16-18

NOW, NOW, NOW

"Even now, says the Lord, return to Me with your whole heart, with
fasting, and weeping, and mourning; rend your hearts." —Joel 2:12-13

The first words of the Lenten Scripture readings are "even now" (Jl 2:12).
The people of Joel's time had undergone a catastrophe, but even after this
tragedy they had a "now" when they could return to the Lord with their
whole heart (Jl 2:12). No matter how bad the past has been or how fearsome
the future may be, "now is the acceptable time!" (2 Cor 6:2)

Thank God for the "now." We may be on our way to hell, but now we can
repent. We may harbor hatred and unforgiveness in our hearts, but now we
have the opportunity to change all that. While we are on this earth, every
"now" means there is hope.

Eventually, each one of us will face a moment of decision, a "now or
never." This will be our last "now" on earth, our last opportunity to
repent of sin and to love Jesus with all our heart. After this final
"now," there will be no reason to hope. We will have either perfect,
eternal happiness or eternal damnation.

Thus, we see how precious are the "now," the "even now," and the "now or
never." We see how priceless are the gifts of Ash Wednesday, Lent, and
this present moment on the way to eternity. Therefore, "delay not to
forsake sins" (Sir 18:21). "Delay not your conversion to the Lord, put it
not off from day to day" (Sir 5:8). "Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor
6:2)

Prayer: Father, may I live this day as if it were my last.

Promise: "No one can see you are fasting but your Father Who is hidden;
and your Father Who sees what is hidden will repay you." —Mt 6:18

Praise: Marie felt God touch her with His words "even now" and repented of

BLINDERS

"Are your minds completely blinded? —Mark 8:17

Jesus didn't ask the apostles if they were spiritually blinded, but if
they were completely spiritually blinded. By sin, we not only cloud and
impair our vision, we can destroy it completely. We can become so blind
that although we see Jesus twice multiply loaves and fish to feed
thousands, we still don't catch on (Mk 8:19-20). Our sin-blindness can be
so devastating that it's as if we had no eyes (Mk 8:18). We can be so
completely blinded we even try God's patience and lead Him to say again:
"Do you still not understand?" (Mk 8:21)

How can we keep from going completely blind?
* Resist temptation even to the point of shedding our own blood (Heb
12:4).
* Ask the Spirit to convict you of sin (Jn 16:8).
* Read the Bible daily and use God's word to help you examine your
conscience (see Jn 12:48).
* Go to Confession frequently, at least monthly.
* Attend Mass and receive the Eucharist as often as possible, even
daily.

Obeying these simple instructions prevents sin-blindness. Also, by reading
the daily Bible readings for the Eucharist, we can keep from going
completely blind. If this book, One Bread, One Body, has been used by the
Lord to keep you from blindness or open eyes already blinded, please write
and tell us the good news.

Prayer: Father, as a Parent, You grieve over the blindness of Your
children. May I let You open my eyes.

Promise: "Every worthwhile gift, every genuine benefit comes from above,
descending from the Father of the heavenly luminaries, Who cannot change
and Who is never shadowed over." —Jas 1:17

Praise: Jennifer, a mother of a large family, rises each morning to pray
and read the Bible well before her children arise.

(We offer a Women's Retreat Mar. 20. Be renewed by the Lord, refreshed by
the Spirit, and supported by others. Call 937-587-5464 to register.)

LOOKING FOR A SIGN? - One Bread, One Body, 2/15/2010

Monday, February 15, 2010

James 1:1-11, Psalm 119:67-68, 71-72, 75-76, Mark 8:11-13
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/021510.shtml

LOOKING FOR A SIGN?

"[The Pharisees] were looking for some heavenly sign from Him as a test.
With a sigh from the depths of His spirit He said, 'Why does this age seek
a sign? I assure you, no such sign will be given it!' " —Mark 8:11-12

Do you need a sign from God to believe in His power and love? Well, then,
despite not giving the Pharisees of His time a sign, the Lord is about to
give the world an incredible sign, one that's not easily missed. In two
days, hundreds of millions of Catholics worldwide will be walking around
with an ashen sign of the cross drawn on their foreheads. No one will be
able to avoid this sign. The only question is: Will people of "this age"
who are seeking a sign (Mk 8:12) be so "blinded by the god of" this age (2
Cor 4:4), the secular culture which denies the power of God, that they
miss the sign paraded in front of them all day?

In "this age," many people have signs on their bodies. People are walking
advertisements as they take pride in wearing clothes and shoes with the
brand name displayed for all to see. Others wear their signs and messages
in the form of "body art" in which tattoos cover nearly every exposed inch
of skin for people to read. Still others use their bodies to glorify God
(1 Cor 6:20) as signs for righteousness and evangelization by wearing
crosses or medals, dressing modestly, and wearing a cheerful face as a
"sign" of a heart that loves God (Sir 13:25).

The oldies song says, "Sign, sign, everywhere a sign." As Lent begins,
Jesus sends to the world walking signs bearing His message of crucified
love on their foreheads. Each day, may we disciples of Christ be signposts
who lead the world to Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, use me as Your sign so that those who don't know You might
be able to "read the signs of the times" (Mt 16:3).

Promise: "Let Your kindness comfort me according to Your promise to Your
servants." —Ps 119:76

Praise: Robert now covers the tattoos he once blasphemously displayed, and
wears a crucifix instead.

PM eNewsletter Sixth Sunday in ordinary time

February 14th The Sixth Sunday in ordinary time

This week oh! Jesus, we begin Lent.

Jesus, help us to make this Lent truly a time of conversion and
the start of a new and deeper relationship with You.

Let us really see, through You, what we have to give up or get
rid of from our lives.

Let us give up whatever is keeping us from truly being one in You.

Let Your light of love open our hearts so that we may see You as
our Lord, God, and King of Kings.

Let this Lent truly be the beginning of a new life of love and service.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "IN GOD WE TRUST"
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=2/14/2010

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted beside the waters." —Jeremiah 17:7-8

Happiness is not trusting in human beings, even in ourselves, but
trusting in the Lord (Jer 17:5, 7). Trusting in the Lord is not just a
state of mind but is expressed in very practical decisions. For example,
trusting in the Lord can mean choosing poverty, persecution
(Lk 6:20, 22), and a radically different lifestyle of simplicity and
self-sacrifice rather than of pleasure-seeking and selfishness.

Trusting in the Lord is the only reasonable thing to do but is beyond
human reason. We are commanded in God's word: "Trust in the Lord
with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not; in all your ways
be mindful of Him" (Prv 3:5-6). Trusting in the Lord means trusting in
the Lord alone and trusting in Him at all times (Ps 62:6-9). If we don't
trust Him always, we don't trust Him as He wants to be trusted.

Trusting in the Lord is a way of life or it is nothing. Jesus said: "Fear
is useless; what is needed is trust" (Lk 8:50). "Commit to the Lord
your way; trust in Him, and He will act. He will make justice dawn for
you like the light; bright as the noonday shall be your vindication"
(Ps 37:5-7).

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

PEACE AND CREATION

"PROFOUNDLY LINKED"

May this be clear to world leaders and to those ... who are concerned
for the future of humanity: the protection of creation and peacemaking
are profoundly linked.

"HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY"

The ecological crisis offers an historic opportunity to develop a common
plan of action aimed at orienting the model of global development towards
greater respect for creation and for an integral human development
inspired by the values proper to charity in truth.

"THE QUEST FOR PEACE"

The quest for peace by people of good will surely would become easier if
all acknowledge the indivisible relationship between God, human beings
and the whole of creation.

WORD-HUNGER - One Bread, One Body, 2/13/2010

Saturday, February 13, 2010

1 Kings 12:26-32; 13:33-34, Psalm 106:6-7, 19-22, Mark 8:1-10
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/021310.shtml

WORD-HUNGER

A "large crowd assembled, and they were without anything to eat." —Mark
8:1

The crowd following Jesus had nothing to eat. Moreover, some of them had
"come a great distance" to hear His words (Mk 8:3). Unless Jesus had
miraculously fed the people, some of them would have literally collapsed
(Mk 8:3).

How hungry are you for God's word? Would you come a great distance to hear
the word? Are you so intent on hearing God's word that you would put
yourself in a position where you couldn't get any food? Would you
sacrifice to the point of physically collapsing to receive the spiritual
nourishment of God's word?

The psalmist proclaimed: "How sweet to my palate are Your promises,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Ps 119:103) Jeremiah said: "When I found
Your words, I devoured them; they became my joy and the happiness of my
heart" (Jer 15:16). "Be as eager for milk as newborn babies — pure milk of
the Spirit to make you grow unto salvation, now that you have tasted that
the Lord is good" (1 Pt 2:2-3, see also Heb 6:5). Hunger for God's word.

Prayer: Father, may I eat more spiritually than I do physically.

Promise: "Those who had eaten numbered about four thousand." —Mk 8:9

Praise: Praise: Hungering for a word from God, Amelia drove some distance
to attend worship services.

(To grow in hunger for God's word, read the Bible daily. For
