STEWARDSHIP AND JUDGMENT DAY
"The master of those servants came home and settled accounts with them." -Matthew 25:19
Judgment Day will be a matter of stewardship. God is the Owner of everything (see Ps 24:1), even of us (see 1 Cor 6:19; Gal 2:20); we are His managers. Stewardship is more than a full-time job; it is twenty-four hours a day, every day. It is our life in Christ.
Stewardship means not only managing money and material possessions but also time, energy, opportunities, talents, gifts of the Spirit, etc. For instance, the Lord expects us to be good stewards of reading this book, One Bread, One Body. Any light we receive from the Scriptures we are obligated to put on the lampstand so as to give light to all (Lk 8:16). Furthermore, when we go to Mass and receive Communion, we must become walking tabernacles and take the eucharistic Jesus to people who are desperately unaware of needing Him. We must give as a gift what has been given to us (Mt 10:8). "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48).
Be a good and faithful steward (Mt 25:21). Love God and share that love. Get ready for Judgment Day. "Come, share your Master's joy!" (Mt 25:21)
Prayer: Father, may I never waste money, possessions, time, and opportunities by keeping them to myself.
Promise: "God Himself has taught you to love one another." -1 Thes 4:9
Praise: Joan, a busy mother of eight, eagerly shares with her prayer group spiritual insights and teachings as she receives them.

PURE PROGRESS
"It is God's will that you grow in holiness: that you abstain from immorality." -1 Thessalonians 4:3
Paul told the Thessalonian Christians: "You must learn to make still greater progress" (1 Thes 4:1). Paul was referring to progress in sexual purity. When Christians routinely look lustfully at others on TV, on-line, or in person (see Mt 5:28), we must make still greater progress. When many Catholics disagree with Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae without ever having read or understood it, we must make still greater progress. When the Church's biblical teachings condemning homosexual acts as sinful and degrading (see Rm 1:27) are arrogantly dismissed, we have to make greater progress. When lay single people don't know they have the preferred calling of renouncing sex for the sake of God's kingdom (Mt 19:12; 1 Cor 7:7), we must make greater progress. When most Christians don't know that "the pill" is not only a contraceptive but sometimes an abortifacient, we have to make more progress. When people are ignorant of how tubal ligations and vasectomies seriously disrupt the ecological order of their bodies, spirits, and relationships, we must make greater progress. When our stand against abortion is weakened because of our disunity, refusal to submit to authority, and self-centered apathy, we must make still greater progress.
"God has not called us to immorality but to holiness; hence, whoever rejects these instructions rejects, not man, but God Who sends His Holy Spirit upon you" (1 Thes 4:7-8). Be pure as Jesus is pure (1 Jn 3:3).
Prayer: Father, save me "from this generation which has gone astray" (Acts 2:40).
Promise: "The moral is: keep your eyes open, for you know not the day or the hour." -Mt 25:13
Praise: Dr. Jones works to "make progress" by refusing to prescribe birth control pills.

WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPENTHROUGH GOOD PEOPLE?
"Herodias harbored a grudge against him for this and wanted to kill him." -Mark 6:19
Possibly the only one at Herod's birthday who wanted John beheaded was Herodias. Herod didn't want to kill John (Mk 6:20), and Herodias' daughter didn't think to ask for John's head until her mother put her up to it (Mk 6:24). Moreover, most of the people at Herod's birthday party may have thought it wrong to behead John. Even people with warped consciences can see the evil in the act of putting a freshly cut human head on a platter and parading it around a cocktail party.
One person can get away with committing an atrocity which no one else accepts when everyone is paralyzed to do anything about it. Herod was paralyzed by pride. Herodias' daughter may have been trapped by confusion or fear. Herod's guests were paralyzed by their egos, fears, or political ambitions.
Babies in the womb are murdered. Neighborhoods become paranoid through violence. Refugees are left to starve. Thousands upon thousands of people are annihilated through war. Yet hardly anyone wants abortion, violence, starvation, or war. These things happen because a thousand paralyzed Herods and party guests won't stop one Herodias. Conversely, one free, bold John the Baptizer will ultimately stop thousands of Herodiases. The Lord commands us: "Stand up and tell them all that I command you" (Jer 1:17).
Prayer: Father, make me fearless, resolute, pure, and free.
Promise: "May the Lord increase you and make you overflow with love for one another and for all, even as our love does for you." -1 Thes 3:12
Praise: In serving Jesus, St. John proclaimed that serving God was his "joy, and it is complete" (Jn 3:29).

TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE
Jesus said, "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you frauds! You are like whitewashed tombs, beautiful to look at on the outside but inside full of filth and dead men's bones." -Matthew 23:27
Inside people, inside Christians, inside churches, there is a lot of garbage. There's filth, dead men's bones, hypocrisy, evil and violence (see Mt 23:28), not to mention sin, guilt, fear, resentment, unforgiveness, jealousy, depression, hurts, anger, frustration, hatred, and bitterness. Often we let the garbage pile up for years.
In this way, the entire world becomes a garbage dump. We feel like garbage; we become part of the garbage that fills and surrounds us. We are defiled and think we're "dirty." We eat "junk food" and watch "junk" on TV in a subtle admission of being junk. Who can save us from tons of garbage? Who can "take out the garbage" of a lifetime?
Jesus is the Answer, the only Answer. He cleanses us through repentance and confession. He encourages us to make our lives worthy of Him (1 Thes 2:12), to become "upright, just and irreproachable" (1 Thes 2:10). Jesus calls us to His kingship and His glory (1 Thes 2:12). We are special, holy, clean, and lovable. We are washed in His blood.
God doesn't make junk. He creates only a work of art, a glorious masterpiece without even the slightest blemish.
Prayer: Father, may I be, feel, and live clean and holy.
Promise: "That is why we thank God constantly that in receiving His message from us you took it, not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God at work within you who believe." -1 Thes 2:13
Praise: St. Augustine is an example of God's glorious handiwork, as he repented of not believing in God for many years. He gave his life to the Lord, and then addressed his God as "O Beauty of ancient days!"

COMMUNITY OR NOTHING - One Bread, One Body, 8/27/2013

COMMUNITY OR NOTHING
"So well disposed were we to you, in fact, that we wanted to share with you not only God's tidings but our very lives, so dear had you become to us." -1 Thessalonians 2:8
Do you want to share your life with the people in your church? Do you even know the names of your church's members? Do you want to know the names of your brothers and sisters in Christ? If not, how true is it to say they are your brothers and sisters?
Christian community is the missing link in modern Christianity. The Gospel lifestyle of the early Church is mistakenly called merely an ideal, since we don't see it working in the modern world. Yet the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles really do work, if we would only build Christian community. All the king's horses and all the king's men aren't able to put the Church together again until we commit ourselves to love one another in Christian community.
"The community of believers were of one heart and one mind. None of them ever claimed anything as his own; rather, everything was held in common" (Acts 4:32). "If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members share its joy" (1 Cor 12:26).
Prayer: Holy Spirit, give us a new Pentecost and form Christian community.
Promise: "First cleanse the inside of the cup so that its outside may be clean." -Mt 23:26
Praise: St. Monica was one heart and mind with Jesus in that she could not rest until her son came to know Jesus.

"THE WRATH TO COME"
"You turned to God from idols, to serve Him Who is the living and true God and to await from heaven the Son He raised from the dead - Jesus, Who delivers us from the wrath to come." -1 Thessalonians 1:9-10
There is "the wrath to come." "A day of wrath is that day[,] a day of anguish and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of thick black clouds" (Zep 1:15). "How mighty is that day - none like it!" (Jer 30:7) "For great is the day of the Lord, and exceedingly terrible; who can bear it?" (Jl 2:11) "It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress" (Dn 12:1). On the day of wrath, many will cry "out to the mountains and rocks, 'Fall on us! Hide us from the face of the One Who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! The great day of Their vengeance has come. Who can withstand it?' " (Rv 6:16-17)
Hard and impenitent hearts are "storing up retribution for that day of wrath when the just judgment of God will be revealed" (Rm 2:5). "Whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure the wrath of God" (Jn 3:36). Nonetheless, "God has not destined us for wrath but for acquiring salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thes 5:9). "Now that we have been justified by His blood, it is all the more certain that we shall be saved by Him from God's wrath" (Rm 5:9). We can flee from (Mt 3:7) and be delivered "from the wrath to come" (1 Thes 1:10) by totally giving our lives to Jesus and living for Him alone. Accept the love and mercy of Jesus. Don't insist on receiving His justice. "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rm 8:1).
Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to die for me and free me from the wrath to come.
Promise: "Our preaching of the gospel proved not a mere matter of words for you but one of power." -1 Thes 1:5
Praise: John used his retirement as a time to attend daily Mass while often accompanied by his son.

PM eNewsletter 21st Sunday in ordinary time
August 25th 21st Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, Jesus, Your church heralds another tremendous
man of faith.
St. John the Baptist, who without fear, proclaimed what
was truth till he was finally beheaded.
Jesus, give us that steadfastness of heart that we will
first of all learn the truth as taught by the catechism
of the Catholic church, and then be willingly in love,
as we proclaim it to others.
Let us be heralds of Your love and let others see the
Christ in us.
Let us stand for Your law of love, and let us be as
fearless as St. John was in standing for what was right.
Thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday ARE YOU SAVED?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=8/25/2013
"Someone asked Him, 'Lord, are they few in number who are to be saved?'
He replied: 'Try to come in through the narrow door. Many, I tell you,
will try to enter and be unable.' " -Luke 13:23-24
Jesus seems to have indicated that many people would not be saved. He
said: "Enter through the narrow gate. The gate that leads to damnation
is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it. But how narrow
is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there
are who find it!" (Mt 7:13-14) Even some of those who "ate and drank" in
Jesus' company will be lost (Lk 13:26-27). This may include those who
have received Jesus in Holy Communion. Moreover, some of those whom
Jesus taught will be lost (Lk 13:26-27). This may refer to those who
know the Bible and/or have a good Catholic, Christian education.
These statements by Jesus are sobering and can be disturbing. We may
feel as if we're "long-shots" to see Jesus face to face in the eternal
happiness of heaven. However, the Lord wants us to expect to live with
Him forever in heaven. Jesus died on the cross that all might be saved
(see 1 Tm 2:4). If we let Jesus have His way, we will certainly go to
heaven. To do this, we must accept Jesus as Lord of our lives, repent of
doing our will, and decide to do His will. Furthermore, we must not only
think of our own salvation, but also love people enough to invite them
to give their lives to Jesus as Lord, enter the narrow gate, and walk the
rough road which leads to eternal life.
Prayer: Father, may Your Son's death not be in vain (see 1 Cor 1:17) for
me, my family, neighbors, friends, fellow parishioners, and co-workers.
Promise: "Make straight the paths you walk on, that your halting limbs
may not be dislocated but healed." -Heb 12:13
Praise: Praise Jesus, Who opened the gates and set us free!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
THE LIGHT OF FAITH
"GREAT GIFT"
The light of Faith: this is how the Church's tradition speaks of the great gift brought
by Jesus... Christ says of Himself: "I have come as light in the world, that whoever
believes in Me may not remain in darkness" (Jn 12:46). (1)
CONTEMPORARY OBJECTIONS
Yet in speaking of the light of faith, we can almost hear the objections of many of our
contemporaries. In modernity, that light might have been considered sufficient for
societies of old, but was felt to be of no use for modern times ... (2)
"URGENT NEED"
There is an urgent need ... to see once again that faith is a light, for once the flame
of faith dies out, all other lights begin to dim. (4)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2013-08.asp?navlink=latest
(Encyclical Lumen Fidei, issued 6/29/2013)

ARE YOU SAVED? - One Bread, One Body, 8/25/2013
Sunday, August 25, 2013, 21st Sunday Ordinary Time
Isaiah 66:18-21, Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13, Psalm 117:1-2, Luke 13:22-30
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/082513.cfm
ARE YOU SAVED?
"Someone asked Him, 'Lord, are they few in number who are to be saved?' He replied: 'Try to come in through the narrow door. Many, I tell you, will try to enter and be unable.' " -Luke 13:23-24
Jesus seems to have indicated that many people would not be saved. He said: "Enter through the narrow gate. The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it. But how narrow is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there are who find it!" (Mt 7:13-14) Even some of those who "ate and drank" in Jesus' company will be lost (Lk 13:26-27). This may include those who have received Jesus in Holy Communion. Moreover, some of those whom Jesus taught will be lost (Lk 13:26-27). This may refer to those who know the Bible and/or have a good Catholic, Christian education.
These statements by Jesus are sobering and can be disturbing. We may feel as if we're "long-shots" to see Jesus face to face in the eternal happiness of heaven. However, the Lord wants us to expect to live with Him forever in heaven. Jesus died on the cross that all might be saved (see 1 Tm 2:4). If we let Jesus have His way, we will certainly go to heaven. To do this, we must accept Jesus as Lord of our lives, repent of doing our will, and decide to do His will. Furthermore, we must not only think of our own salvation, but also love people enough to invite them to give their lives to Jesus as Lord, enter the narrow gate, and walk the rough road which leads to eternal life.
Prayer: Father, may Your Son's death not be in vain (see 1 Cor 1:17) for me, my family, neighbors, friends, fellow parishioners, and co-workers.
Promise: "Make straight the paths you walk on, that your halting limbs may not be dislocated but healed." -Heb 12:13
Praise: Praise Jesus, Who opened the gates and set us free!

ARE YOU PREJUDICED?
"Nathanael's response to that was, 'Can anything good come from Nazareth?' " -John 1:46
Nathanael (Bartholomew) was prejudiced. He had never met Jesus, but had already judged Him incapable of good because Jesus came from Nazareth. Prejudice contributed to Jesus' crucifixion and death. Prejudice continues to be a major demonic stronghold in the world. Racial prejudice is one of the main motives for abortion and for many Christians' weak stand for life. Prejudice is also the main cause of war after war - from the Civil War to the World Wars to Bosnia-Herzegovina, etc. Even the Christians who keep warning others about being "judgmental" often fall into the sin of prejudice. If we classify people as liberal, conservative, traditional, fundamentalist, charismatic, etc., we often are prejudiced against them. For instance, the Enneagram can result in many problems. One of its bad effects is categorizing a person as a "1", a "4", or a "6." This can lead to the sin of prejudice.
Jesus has commanded us not to judge people at all (Mt 7:1-2), although we are ordered to judge true and false, and right and wrong (see Rm 12:2). Consequently, prejudice of people is a double sin - the sin of judgment and of pre-judgment (prejudice). Jesus changed Nathanael from prejudice to faith. May we let Him do the same for us as we repent of the sin of prejudice.
Prayer: Father, may I see each person as individually created in Your image and likeness (Gn 1:27).
Promise: "Come, I will show you the woman who is the bride of the Lamb." -Rv 21:9
Praise: Jesus told St. Bartholomew: "You shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man" (Jn 1:51).
(For a related teaching, order our tape on Do Not Judge Others" on audio AV 58-1 or video V-58.)

RUTH-LESS?
"Once in the time of the judges there was a famine." -Ruth 1:1
Ruth lived in a time of famine and death. Her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law died. In times of famine and death, it's natural to have a survivor mentality and to make self-preservation the top priority. However, Ruth put aside her self and her needs in returning with her mother-in-law to Bethlehem.
We also live in a time of famine and death. The millions starving throughout the world are a symptom of spiritual starvation. God's people are spiritually anorexic. By stuffing ourselves with the things of the world, we have lost our appetite for the things of God (see Prv 13:19; Gal 5:17). We are being paid the wages of sin, that is, death (Rm 6:23).
Under these circumstances, we are tempted to focus on ourselves, but that's the worst mistake we can make. If we try to preserve our lives, we will lose them. However, if we lose our lives for Jesus, we will preserve them (Lk 9:24). We must do what Ruth did. We must commit ourselves even more strongly to the Lord and to one another. In these times of starvation and death, we need even deeper commitment to God, the Church, our spouses, our parents, our children, and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Prayer: Father, make me a Ruth.
Promise: "You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, and with all your mind." -Mt 22:37
Praise: St. Rose, like Ruth, served her family and her God all the days of her life.

DEATH'S DEATH - One Bread, One Body, 8/22/2013
"The Light of Faith" is the title of the latest issue of Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth.
--> http://www.presentationministries.com/pope/latest.asp
Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth is designed as a bulletin insert which you can use at your local church to keep up to date on what the Holy Father is saying. You are free to reproduce it for this purpose.

Thursday, August 22, 2013, Queenship of Mary
Judges 11:29-39, Psalm 40:5, 7-10, Matthew 22:1-14

DEATH'S DEATH
"Jephthah made a vow to the Lord. 'If you deliver the Ammonites into my power,' he said, 'whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites shall belong to the Lord. I shall offer him up as a holocaust.' " -Judges 11:30-31
The price of victory is usually death - the death of the enemy and other casualties on the "winning" side. For example, the price of Jephthah's victory was the death of his daughter and of his enemies the Ammonites. Likewise, the price of Jesus' victory on the cross was His own death. However, His victory was victory over death. Therefore, physical death need no longer be the price of victory. "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Cor 15:54).
Today we celebrate the Queenship of Mary. The circumstances surrounding Mary's death manifest Jesus' victory over death. At death, Mary's body did not decay in the grave but was assumed into heaven where she was crowned the Queen of heaven and earth. If we live lives committed to Jesus, we too will be victorious at the time of our death. The day of our death will be the happiest day of our lives, for we shall see Jesus face to face (1 Cor 13:12). We will begin our last day on earth amid the pain, suffering, and temptations of this world and end that day in the perfect happiness of heaven. "Thanks be to God Who has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Cor 15:57).
Prayer: Father, free me from the fear of death (Heb 2:15).
Promise: "You must go out into the byroads and invite to the wedding anyone you come upon." -Mt 22:9
Praise: Mary said, "Let it be done to me." Little did she know that this would include being crowned Queen of Heaven.
(For a related teaching, order our tape Am I Going to Heaven?" on audio AV 54-3 or video V-54.)

THE REST OF MY LIFE
"When those hired late in the afternoon came up they received a full day's pay." -Matthew 20:9
Maybe you have wasted your life in "doing your own thing." Now that you have given your life to Jesus, you don't want "to spend what remains of your earthly life on human desires but on the will of God. Already you have devoted enough time to what the pagans enjoy" (1 Pt 4:2-3).
Nevertheless, you feel sad that it's taken you this long to begin to live. The Lord wants to change your sorrow into joy (see Ps 30:12) by assuring you that He will give you a full-day's pay even if you've only worked for Him a very short time (Mt 20:14). The Lord "will repay you for the years which the locust has eaten" (Jl 2:25), that is, for the wasted years of life. The Lord in His mercy often saves the best for last, as He did at the wedding feast of Cana (Jn 2:10). So "give no thought to what lies behind but push on to what is ahead" (Phil 3:13).
The Lord has died to atone for your past, so forget about it. Thank Him you have the privilege of living for Him in the present. Make the following promise: "For the rest of my life, I will serve the Lord alone, in every way, with all my heart."
Prayer: Father, thank You for life, Your forgiveness, the present, and the rest of my life. I give it to You.
Promise: "Thus the last shall be first and the first shall be last." -Mt 20:16
Praise: Pope St. Pius X, born of humble beginnings, was raised up by God to serve a tumultuous, violent world.
("For the rest of my life I will read the Bible every day." We have several tape series to help you. "Overview of the Bible" is six audio tapes starting with AV 10A-1 or three video tapes starting with V-10A. "15-minute Bible Teaching - New Testament" is forty audio tapes starting with #700. THE FUTURE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
"If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?" -Judges 6:13
Jesus promised that He would be with us always even until the end of the world (Mt 28:20). If this is true, why have so many of us suffered tragedies? When Gideon asked this question, the Lord didn't explain the past. Rather, He called Gideon a "champion" and commanded him to go and change his tragedies into blessings (Jgs 6:14). The Lord is calling us to do the same.
At first, Gideon didn't obey the Lord, but complained that he was too insignificant to change the world (Jgs 6:15). Then the Lord said again that He would be with Gideon (Jgs 6:16) and thereby assure him of success.
Gideon found this hard to believe, so he asked the Lord for a sign or two or three (Jgs 6:17, 36, 39). Finally, Gideon believed the Lord and then defeated his enemies to set the chosen people free.
We are all Gideons. We may be paralyzed by tragedy, complaining to the Lord, disobeying Him, putting ourselves down, questioning the Lord, or we may be defeating the enemy by obeying the Lord. It doesn't matter what your past is, or how insignificant you think you are (Jgs 6:15). Wherever you are, move forward to become Gideon, the "champion" (Jgs 6:12). That's "Gideon's Bible."
Prayer: Father, through the intercession of Mary, make me a world champion in Jesus.
Promise: "Moreover, everyone who has given up home, brothers or sisters, father or mother, wife or children or property for My sake will receive many times as much and inherit everlasting life." -Mt 19:29
Praise: St. Bernard exhorted: "In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary."

SLIDE RULE - One Bread, One Body, 8/19/2013
Monday, August 19, 2013, St. John Eudes
Judges 2:11-19, Psalm 106:34-37, 39-40, 43-44, Matthew 19:16-22
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/081913.cfm
SLIDE RULE
"They became defiled by their works, and wanton in their crimes." -Psalm 106:39
"The Israelites offended the Lord" (Jgs 2:11). They persisted in sin and eventually began to receive the wages of sin (Rm 6:23). The Lord "allowed them to fall into the power of their enemies round about whom they were no longer able to withstand. Whatever they undertook, the Lord turned into disaster for them" (Jgs 2:14-15). In their affliction, the people cried out to the Lord, and He took pity on them by sending the "judges" to lead them to repentance. However, the people did not completely repent. "When the judge died, they would relapse and do worse than their fathers" (Jgs 2:19). Eventually, the nation even became so perverted as to sacrifice their sons and daughters to demons (Ps 106:37).
The moral standards of our society and even of some members of our Church have likewise deteriorated. We have sinned, repented, sinned, and repented, but we have done more sinning than repenting. We have sinned seriously, and then more seriously, while repenting superficially. This has resulted in an ever greater accommodation with evil. We must repent with a sincerity that we may have never before experienced. We should desire to go to Confession at least monthly and ask the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sins (see Jn 16:8). Otherwise, today's perversions will be tomorrow's ordinary events. Repent as never before.
Prayer: Father, I repent of not resisting sin to the point of allowing my blood to be shed (Heb 12:4).
Promise: "Jesus told him, 'If you seek perfection, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor. You will then have treasure in heaven. Afterward, come back and follow Me.' " -Mt 19:21
Praise: St. John Eudes founded a community to minister to the needs of prostitutes who had repented of their lifestyle.

PM eNewsletter 20th Sunday in ordinary time
( I apologize for the delay of this weekend's edition, May God continue to bless you and all you care for. The editor )
August 18th 20th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates the queenship of Mary,
as she so rightly deserves.
She was a faithful servant, and a tremendous example of trust
while on earth, and so she should be honored as Queen of
heaven and earth.
Let her intercession continue to cause grace to flow to all
of us.
Let Your love for mom flow also into us, and let us praise,
and glorify You as our Lord, God and King.
Let us see that Your plan of love is constantly working out
in everything, and give us the graces necessary for us to
really trust You every day in every way.
Thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday ADD WATER
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=8/18/2013
"There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud." -Jeremiah 38:6
"No water, only mud" - is that a description of your life? Are you in a hole, sinking in
the mud, starving to death spiritually? (see Jer 38:9) You need to add water to turn your
mud into a mud puddle, and your mud puddle into a fountain of living waters (see Jn 4:14).
Most of us have already received the life-giving waters of Baptism, but we should renew our
baptismal promises. We have already done that on Easter Sunday, but maybe we didn't realize
what we were doing or have stifled the Spirit since then. So let's renew our baptismal
promises and let the living waters flow and lift us out of the mud of sin.
Jesus proclaimed that He had a baptism to receive (Lk 12:50). By this, He was referring to
the baptism in the bath of pain on Calvary (see Mk 10:38). When we renew our baptismal
promises, we are also committing ourselves to suffer with Jesus and for love of Him. Aware
of the suffering involved, renew your baptismal promises now. Reject Satan, his works, and
his empty promises. Profess your faith in your loving Father; in Jesus as your Savior, Lord,
and God; and in the Holy Spirit. Sprinkle yourself with holy water. Get out of the mud, out
of sin, and out of prison. By faith, add water.
Prayer: Father, as the deer "longs for the running waters, so my soul longs for You, O God" (Ps 42:2).
Promise: "Remember how He endured the opposition of sinners; hence do not grow despondent or
abandon the struggle." -Heb 12:3
Praise: Praise You, Jesus our Savior! Your love washes us clean, and You lead us to risen
life. Alleluia!

Your love washes us clean, and You lead us to risen
life. Alleluia!

IDOLATRY IN THE HOME - One Bread, One Body, 8/17/2013

Joshua 24:14-29, Psalm 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 11, Matthew 19:13-15

IDOLATRY IN THE HOME
"Put away the strange gods that are among you and turn your hearts to the Lord." -Joshua 24:23
The Israelites entered the promised land under a covenant to be God's people (see Dt 29:11-12). Yet after they had settled into the promised land, they acquired some idols for their new homes. Joshua heard about this and challenged the Israelites to stop their idolatry and get rid of these false gods (see Jos 24:23). Jacob's wife Rachel brought idols into her marriage home (Gn 31:19, 30-36). Even David, a man after God's own heart (1 Kgs 15:3), began his marriage to Michal with an idol in his home (1 Sm 19:13, 16).
Today we don't get into statues of idols, but many homes still worship "the god of the present age" (2 Cor 4:4), that is, a lifestyle of comfort, sex, money, power, and secular humanism as presented through the media. Often, today's homes enthrone the TV or home entertainment system. It's not an idol of gold or silver, but it's still surrounded by "worshipers" who eat sacrificial meals (or at least snacks) as they sacrifice their prime time prostrating themselves before the household "statue."
I know the above scenario might be a bit of an exaggeration, but God doesn't take second place to anyone or anything. Idolatry has been rampant throughout history and it still is today. God demands your exclusive worship. The stones and walls of your home will witness to God about what is first in your life (see Jos 24:26-27). What will they tell God about His place in your life?
Prayer: Lord, if I can't put You first any other way, may I throw away the TV instead of risking entering hell with it (see Mt 5:29-30).
Promise: "Let the children come to Me." -Mt 19:14
Praise: Sarah went from being embarrassed to show any signs of her Catholic identity in her home to enthroning the Sacred Heart in it.

SINGLES HITTER? - One Bread, One Body, 8/16/2013
Friday, August 16, 2013, St. Stephen of Hungary
Joshua 24:1-13, Psalm 136:1-3, 16-18, 21-22, 24, Matthew 19:3-12

SINGLES HITTER?
"Some there are who have freely renounced sex for the sake of God's reign. Let him accept this teaching who can." -Matthew 19:12
The secular culture, which treasures sexual fulfillment as a false god, acts as if something is wrong with a person who is single and chaste. It's as if the single person is not good enough to attract a partner. However, the secular culture has failed to understand the Scriptures and the power of God (Mk 12:24).
The Catholic Church proclaims that those who are single for the Lord are not weak and undesirable; instead, they carry within them "the immeasurable scope of His power" (Eph 1:19). If you are a chaste single person, you have "powers of life and love" (Catechism, 2338). You are "a good soldier of Christ Jesus," fully devoted to Him (see 2 Tm 2:3-4), "busy with the Lord's affairs, concerned with pleasing" Him (1 Cor 7:32).
Armies have elite troops called special forces, composed of soldiers fully available to the commander for immediate deployment. They especially handle the difficult assignments and crucial battles. If you have a lay single vocation or a consecrated religious vocation, you are in God's special forces. You are instantly available to serve Him however He wishes to "deploy" you. Singles for the Lord, your holy, celibate lifestyle shouts to the world that the joy of heaven far outweighs any earthly pleasure. So "serve the Lord with gladness" (Ps 100:2) and by your holiness teach the world that Jesus is Lord!
Prayer: Father, may those who are single for Your sake (Mt 19:12) bear abundant, lasting fruit and be encouraged by all.
Promise: "They fought against you, but I delivered them into your power." -Jos 24:8
Praise: St. Stephen was "fully devoted" to Christ as his kingship over Hungary resulted in the needs of the poor being met.

FLYING LESSONS - One Bread, One Body, 8/15/2013
Thursday, August 15, 2013, Assumption
Revelation 11:19; 12:1-6, 10, 1 Corinthians 15:20-27, Psalm 45:10-12, 16, Luke 1:39-56

FLYING LESSONS
"He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and raised the lowly to high places." -Luke 1:52
Jesus ascended into heaven; Mary was assumed into heaven; those who live for Jesus will be assumed into heaven.
The laws of gravity, death, and sin seem to dominate our lives. We sin repeatedly and eventually are buried. However, this is not the end - as much as it looks like the end. "You can depend on this: If we have died with Him we shall also live with Him" (2 Tm 2:11). "The Lord Himself will come down from heaven at the word of command, at the sound of the archangel's voice and God's trumpet; and those who have died in Christ will rise first. Then we, the living, the survivors, will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Thenceforth we shall be with the Lord unceasingly" (1 Thes 4:16-17).
In the doubt and disbelief of our secular humanistic culture, many people doubt if the Lord is actually going to defy gravity by taking us off planet Earth and assuming us into heaven. How do we know we have victory over sin and death? We don't appear very victorious.
Mary is a sure sign of hope. What the Lord has done for Mary, the mother of the Church, He will do for us, the members of the Church. There is hope - a great and glorious hope. No matter how earth-bound, sin-bound, and death-bound we seem, we can give our lives to Jesus and fly away. We will not only fly like the eagle (see Is 40:31) but also like Mary. In Jesus, "we shall overcome one day." Mary has proven it. Believe! Hope! Fly!
Prayer: Father, give me "a birth unto hope" (1 Pt 1:3).
Promise: "Just as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will come to life again, but each one in proper order: Christ the First Fruits and then, at His coming, all those who belong to Him." -1 Cor 15:22-23
Praise: Praise Jesus, Son of Mary, Who reigns in Heaven with His Mother forevermore!
