THE GOD OF THE IMPOSSIBLE
"Even if this should seem impossible in the eyes of the remnant of this people, shall it in those days be impossible in My eyes also, says the Lord of hosts?" -Zechariah 8:6
It seemed impossible that the Israelite nation would ever be restored, but "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37). Think of the most impossible situation in your life - a marriage that seems irreconcilable, a terminal illness, long-term compulsive behavior, a dead parish, mental illness, family breakdown, etc. What man considers impossible, the Lord sees as opportunities to manifest His almighty power.
To strengthen your faith in the God of the impossible:
* Read and pray God's Word. "Faith comes through hearing, and hearing by God's word" (Rm 10:17, our transl.).
* Ask others, including Saint Jude, to pray for you to see the most impossible situations in your life the way God sees them.
* Go to Confession and repent of giving in to doubt.
* Praise and thank the Lord for doing the impossible, even before He does it.
* Share your faith in the God of the impossible by telling others about Him.
God will do more than we can ever ask for or imagine (Eph 3:20). He will do the impossible.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the hope that "will not leave us disappointed" (Rm 5:5).
Promise: "Whoever welcomes this little child on My account welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him Who sent Me; for the least one among you is the greatest." -Lk 9:48
Praise: St. Jerome used his brilliance and intensity to further God's Kingdom by translating the entire Bible into the common language of the day, Latin.

PM eNewsletter 26th Sunday in ordinary time
September 29th 26th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week Jesus, Your church celebrates three
great archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael.
These three angels are shining examples of how You
love us, and protect us, by sending them to be Your
messengers to us, and with all of our own guardian
angels to be with us everyday.
Jesus, Your plan of loving us is so amazing that we
can't really understand it or truly appreciate it.
But that doesn't stop You from giving us help that we
need to get through this life, so that someday we will
come home and spend eternity with you.
Thank You for loving us.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday HARD BALL
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/29/2013
"If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if
one should rise from the dead." -Luke 16:31
The rich man in today's Gospel died and was so "hard up" that he asked to lick the tip
of Lazarus' finger after it had been dipped in water (see Lk 16:24). This rich man
suffered extreme deprivation in a "place of torment" (Lk 16:28).
The rich man knew that his five brothers were on the way to the same place of
deprivation and torment. He knew that they were so spiritually blind and hardened that
it would take a man risen from the dead to open their eyes. Abraham disagreed and said
that the five brothers were even more hardened than the rich man thought. Abraham said:
"They will not be convinced even if one should rise from the dead" (Lk 16:31).
The only hope Abraham held out to the harder than hard, who are on the way to being
very, very "hard up," is that they listen to Moses and the prophets (see Lk 16:29). The
first five books of the Bible are attributed to Moses, and the prophets make up a large
section of the Bible. So Abraham was saying that, if we don't listen to the Bible, we
will stay blind, get harder, and be on our way to very hard times. We either listen to
the Bible or become hard-hearted and "hard up" in hell forever. Listen to Jesus and His
Word.
Prayer: Father, as Jesus did on the first Easter Sunday for His disciples and apostles,
open my mind to the understanding of Moses and the prophets (Lk 24:45, 27).
Promise: "The Lord raises up those that were bowed down." -Ps 146:8
Praise: Praise Jesus, the Word made Flesh (Jn 1:14), Who taught us how to live! Alleluia!

PRAY AND WORK FOR PEACE
HOW TO BUILD PEACE
What can we do to make peace in the world? As Pope John said, it pertains to each
individual to establish new relationships in human society under the mastery and
guidance of justice and love (cf. John XXIII, Pacem in terris... ).
"LED BY THE DESIRE FOR PEACE"
May the plea for peace rise up and touch the heart of everyone so that they may lay down
their weapons and let themselves be led by the desire for peace.
TURN TO MARY
Let us ask Mary to help us respond to violence, to conflict and to war, with the power
of dialogue, reconciliation and love. She is our mother: may she help us to find peace;
all of us are her children! Help us, Mary, to overcome this most difficult moment and to
dedicate ourselves each day to building in every situation an authentic culture of
encounter and peace. Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us!

HARD BALL - One Bread, One Body, 9/29/2013
Sunday, September 29, 2013, 26th Sunday Ordinary Time

HARD BALL
"If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if one should rise from the dead." -Luke 16:31
The rich man in today's Gospel died and was so "hard up" that he asked to lick the tip of Lazarus' finger after it had been dipped in water (see Lk 16:24). This rich man suffered extreme deprivation in a "place of torment" (Lk 16:28).
The rich man knew that his five brothers were on the way to the same place of deprivation and torment. He knew that they were so spiritually blind and hardened that it would take a man risen from the dead to open their eyes. Abraham disagreed and said that the five brothers were even more hardened than the rich man thought. Abraham said: "They will not be convinced even if one should rise from the dead" (Lk 16:31).
The only hope Abraham held out to the harder than hard, who are on the way to being very, very "hard up," is that they listen to Moses and the prophets (see Lk 16:29). The first five books of the Bible are attributed to Moses, and the prophets make up a large section of the Bible. So Abraham was saying that, if we don't listen to the Bible, we will stay blind, get harder, and be on our way to very hard times. We either listen to the Bible or become hard-hearted and "hard up" in hell forever. Listen to Jesus and His Word.
Prayer: Father, as Jesus did on the first Easter Sunday for His disciples and apostles, open my mind to the understanding of Moses and the prophets (Lk 24:45, 27).
Promise: "The Lord raises up those that were bowed down." -Ps 146:8
Praise: Praise Jesus, the Word made Flesh (Jn 1:14), Who taught us how to live! Alleluia!
(Hear Him and then take initiative; teach the Bible. Order our tapes on the "Bible Teachers Series". Our six-tape series starts with AV 117-1. Our three-part video series starts with V-117.)

FIREWALL
"I will be for her an encircling wall of fire." -Zechariah 2:9
The Israelites returned to the rubble of Jerusalem after decades of exile in Babylon. They were trying to rebuild the Temple and the city. However, since the walls of Jerusalem were no longer standing, the defenseless Israelites were like sitting ducks to raiding armies (see Neh 3:35). They desperately needed to be defended (see Neh 4:1-5). In the midst of this dire situation, the Lord promised through the prophet Zechariah: "I will be for [Jerusalem] an encircling wall of fire" (Zec 2:9). God became the first "firewall" in history.
Computers have a "firewall" to protect from relentless invaders such as hackers and viruses. Yet Christians have the best possible "firewall" - a loving Shepherd Who personally defends His flock and Who protects by fire (Ex 14:24).
The Hebrews who left Egypt on the Passover were protected by a God of fire (Ex 14:24) - a fiery cloud to limit the Egyptian army from advancing any further. Can you believe that the Lord is still able to protect you and all His people today? Put not your trust in princes, in weapons, in human strength, or in armies. Put your trust in "the God Who answers with fire" (1 Kgs 18:24) and Who protects by fire.
Prayer: Lord, "let the fire fall" and let it burn all around me.
Promise: "He guards them as a shepherd His flock." -Jer 31:10
Praise: St. Wenceslaus, King of Bohemia, encircled his political world with a wall of fire comprised of God's laws and love.

WE'RE WAITING FOR THE BAPTIZED - One Bread, One Body, 9/27/2013
Friday, September 27, 2013, St. Vincent de Paul
Haggai 1:15-2:9, Psalm 43:1-4, Luke 9:18-22

WE'RE WAITING FOR THE BAPTIZED
"Now take courage, Zerubbabel, says the Lord, and take courage, Joshua, high priest, son of Jehozadak, and take courage, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and work!" -Haggai 2:4
The task of rebuilding God's house required a priest, Joshua; prophets, Haggai and Zechariah; and a king, Zerubbabel. To rebuild God's house and renew the face of the earth, it took Jesus: the Priest, the Prophet, and the King of kings (see Rv 19:16). To apply the redeeming work of Jesus to where we live, it takes Christians baptized into Christ and living their Baptisms as priests, prophets, and kings. Immediately after we were baptized, we were anointed with the Chrism oil as priests, prophets, and kings. Like Jesus and in Jesus, we have the Spirit of the Lord upon us, for He has anointed us to bring good news to the poor and to announce justice and freedom (Lk 4:18-19).
Let us renew our Baptisms and live them to the fullest. Baptized into Christ Jesus, we have all the priestly, prophetic, and royal power to renew the face of the earth (Ps 104:30) and build God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven (see Mt 6:10). Live your Baptism.
Prayer: Father, "shake all the nations" and fill Your "house with glory" (Hg 2:7).
Promise: " 'But you - who do you say that I am?' He asked them. Peter said in reply, 'The Messiah of God.' " -Lk 9:20
Praise: St. Vincent not only worked for God's poor, he worked on transforming himself, through God's grace, from being rough and cross to tender and kind.
(For a related teaching, order our tape on "Baptism" on audio AV 47A-1 or video V-47A.)

BODY BUILDING - One Bread, One Body, 9/26/2013

BODY BUILDING
"Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?" -Haggai 1:4
The Israelites were building and remodeling their houses but not rebuilding the house of the Lord. Because they were not working on the right house, they were impoverished, dissatisfied, depressed, cold, and empty (Hg 1:6).
Christians today seem to be making a mistake similar to that of the Israelites. Although most of us are willing to put out substantial amounts for church buildings, building the Church of the New Testament involves much more than constructing buildings. Building the Church means:
* evangelizing and being witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8),
* making disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19), and
* forming and developing small Christian communities (see Acts 2:42; 4:32).
Very few Christians even know what it means to build the Church of the New Testament. Consequently, there is not much Church-building going on in the midst of many church activities. As with the people of Haggai's time, this results in frustration, confusion, and discontent with parish life. "Without vision, the people perish" (see Prv 29:18, KJV).
Therefore, "consider your ways" (Hg 1:5, 7); build the Church; be happy.
Prayer: Father, may the Church be stronger and greater because of my life.
Promise: "Build the house that I may take pleasure in it and receive My glory, says the Lord." -Hg 1:8
Praise: Sts. Cosmas and Damian were physicians used by God to heal both body and soul.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet Evangelism and Worship" or our tape on audio AV 49-1 or video V-49.)

CONTEXTUALIZING POWER - One Bread, One Body, 9/25/2013

CONTEXTUALIZING POWER
"Jesus now called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority to overcome all demons and to cure diseases." -Luke 9:1
As members of Christ's Church, we have "power and authority to overcome all demons and to cure diseases." Therefore, it should be a daily occurrence for us to see people healed and to quickly crush Satan under our feet (Rm 16:20). Yet, we live in Satan's culture of death in the midst of thousands of sick people. How can this be if we have power and authority over all demons and diseases?
We are obviously not using the power Jesus has given us. Our ignorance and sinfulness disrupt the order of power and the ecology of authority. We have power and authority in the context of proclaiming the kingdom of God (Lk 9:2). Moreover, our proclamation of God's kingdom should be in the context of taking "nothing for the journey" (Lk 9:3). When we have left ourselves nothing to depend on but our heavenly Father and are proclaiming God's kingdom and not ours, we will see our dormant power and authority awaken. Then we will see demons and diseases driven out of people's lives.
We have God's power. We must choose to put this power in the context of evangelization, faith, and Gospel poverty. In this context, our power will be activated. Live the Gospel life. Use your power.
Prayer: Father, may I choose the way of living that makes it possible for me to use fully the power You have given me.
Promise: "And now, but a short time ago, mercy came to us from the Lord our God, Who left us a remnant and gave us a stake in His holy place; thus our God has brightened our eyes." -Ezr 9:8
Praise: Tanya was astonished to see how quickly God responded to the prayers of her children.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet Be Holy, for I Am Holy".)

BEING FROM HEARING AND DOING
Jesus "told them in reply, 'My mother and My brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it.' " -Luke 8:21
We can be Jesus' mother, brothers, and sisters if we hear God's Word and act on it. We can be in Jesus' immediate family and be so close to Him that He lives in us and we in Him (see Jn 6:56) - if only we hear (Ps 81:14) and do the Word of God.
However, we find it humanly impossible to hear God's Word. To hear His still, small voice (1 Kgs 19:12ff), we would have to be still and know that He is God (see Ps 46:11). To open our ears to His Word, we must stop our ears lest we hear of bloodshed (Is 33:15) and other things not of God. To hear God's Word, we must repent of not hearing God and then renew our baptismal promises, for in Baptism we were given the supernatural power of hearing God's Word.
After we hear God's Word, we must do His Word. "Act on this word. If all you do is listen to it, you are deceiving yourselves" (Jas 1:22). Doing God's Word requires the miracle of repentance from the selfishness of apathy and rebellion against God. Doing God's Word requires submission to the Lord and rebellion against Satan's tyranny. To do God's Word, we must say with Mary: "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me" according to God's Word (Lk 1:38).
By His grace, hear and do God's Word. Be mother, sister, and brother to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, give me the ears and hands of Jesus' mother, Mary.
Promise: "May the God Who causes His name to dwell there overthrow every king or people who may undertake to alter this or to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem." -Ezr 6:12
Praise: Rita made a point of reading One Bread, One Body and "heard" God's Word for the first time.

AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE
"To the man who has, more will be given; and he who has not, will lose even the little he thinks he has." -Luke 8:18
The above saying might seem, at first glance, to imply that God plays favorites, much like a teacher's best student seems to be favored by the teacher. However, God "shows no partiality" (Acts 10:34) and plays no favorites. The meaning of Luke 8:18 becomes clearer when we read it in the context of the parable of the sower and the seed, which directly precedes today's Gospel reading (Lk 8:4-15). The one "who has" is like the soil which bears fruit "a hundredfold" (see Lk 8:8). Such a person is constantly open to God's grace. Since the Lord lavishly (Ti 3:6) pours out His Spirit without ration (Jn 3:34), the one "who has" grace is always receiving more grace upon grace (see Jn 1:16). Therefore, more will be given to the one who has (Lk 8:18).
The one "who has not" resembles the first type of soil, the "rocky ground" (see Lk 8:6). His heart is rock-hard (Ez 36:26) and will not allow God's grace to sink in (see Heb 3:15; Jer 17:9). The Lord continues to pour out grace abundantly on such a person (see Mt 5:45), yet the world, the flesh, and the devil "steal it away" (see Lk 8:12). The one who has wants more of God and takes an active part in daily Bible study, frequent or daily Mass, and Christian community and service, and thereby receives more. The one who has not shuts his heart to these avenues of God's grace. What little grace he had remaining is left to leak away.
Therefore, shut your heart to the pleasures of the world and "open wide your hearts" (2 Cor 6:13) to the grace of God.
Prayer: Father, as I hear Your voice, may I never harden my heart (Heb 3:7-8). Give me a new heart of love for You (Ez 36:26).
Promise: "There is nothing hidden that will not be exposed; nothing concealed that will not be known and brought to light." -Lk 8:17
Praise: St. Pio was blessed beyond imagining and shared that goodness with countless others.

PM eNewsletter 25th Sunday in ordinary time
Sept 22nd Twenty fifth Sunday in ordinary time
We call this season of the year, ordinary time, yet in You
nothing is ordinary.
Just to know You in the Eucharist, and see You in the breaking
of the bread, should be for us a cause of great joy.
The fact that You are always with us in all the tabernacles of
the world, ready to listen and help us, should give us a
tremendous sense of peace.
We know that You are truly there, just waiting for us to visit,
and give You praise and glorify, thank You, the Christ.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday "FIRST OF ALL"
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/22/2013
"First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be
offered." -1 Timothy 2:1
The injustices in our world are becoming increasingly severe. The needy are being
trampled on and the poor are destroyed (Am 8:4). Millions of aborted babies, millions
of starving people, and millions of refugees are only some of the injustices.
The Christian response to these injustices should be faith. Only by faith can we
remove these mountains (see Mt 17:20). We must express our faith by our works
(see Jas 2:26). Like the manager in today's Gospel reading, Christians should be
"enterprising" and take "initiative" (Lk 16:8) in politics, economics, communications,
education, etc. Nevertheless, our first response to injustice should be prayer. Paul
taught: "First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving
be offered for all men, especially for kings and those in authority" (1 Tm 2:1-2).
"Prayer of this kind is good, and God our Savior is pleased with it, for He wants all
men to be saved and come to know the truth" (1 Tm 2:3-4). When we pray first and act
second, our actions will not be ineffective and misguided but powerful and redemptive.
The Lord promised that the demons behind the injustices in our society will be driven
out by faith expressed in prayer and fasting (Mt 17:21 NAB). Our actions have not been
effective because our prayer and fasting have not been sufficient. So pray and fast
according to God's will, then act.
Prayer: Father, teach me to pray (see Lk 11:1) as much as You want and how You want.
Promise: "Make friends for yourselves through your use of this world's goods, so that
when they fail you, a lasting reception will be yours." -Lk 16:9
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! You have delivered us from the power of evil. All
honor and praise be to You!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
PRAY AND WORK FOR PEACE
STRONG APPEAL
I appeal strongly for peace, an appeal which arises from deep within me. How much
suffering, how much devastation, how much pain has the use of arms carried in its wake
in that martyred country [Syria], especially among civilians and the unarmed! I think
of many children will not see the light of the future! With utmost firmness I condemn
the use of chemical weapons.
"OVERCOME BLIND CONFLICT"
With all my strength, I ask each party in this conflict to listen to the voice of their
own conscience, not to close themselves in solely to their own interests, but rather to
look at each other as brothers and decisively and courageously to follow the path of
encounter and negotiation, and so overcome blind conflict.
"CLEAR PROPOSALS FOR PEACE"
With similar vigor I exhort the international community to make every effort to promote
clear proposals for peace in that country without further delay, a peace based on
dialogue and negotiation, for the good of the entire Syrian people.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

SHOCK WAVES
"What reason can the Teacher have for eating with tax collectors and those who disregard the law?" -Matthew 9:11
Imagine being a good Jewish disciple of Jesus and then being introduced by Jesus to your new fellow disciple, Matthew, the notorious, traitorous scum - the tax collector. You would feel like quitting as Jesus' disciple. Jesus has done strange things before, but this is going too far.
On another occasion, imagine meeting Jesus as He comes down the mountain, after praying throughout the night (see Lk 6:12). Jesus has an announcement. He plans to choose from His many disciples twelve apostles. These men will represent Jesus in a special way and have Jesus' authority. He will invest the rest of His life in these twelve apostles. Jesus lists the first seven apostles, and then He names Matthew. You can't believe your ears. You feel sick, enraged, resentful, confused.
Years later, you hear that Matthew and some others are maintaining that he has been called to compile a Gospel. How can God have chosen Matthew to write the opening book of the greatest revelation of all time, the New Testament? How can God have chosen Matthew to write the very Word of God?
The Lord's choice of Matthew is shocking. We can let it be shock therapy or a cause for alienation from the Lord. On the feast of St. Matthew, accept the Lord's shocking ways.
Prayer: Father, purify my heart from pride, unforgiveness, and resentments.
Promise: "Through all the earth their voice resounds, and to the ends of the world, their message." -Ps 19:5
Praise: St. Matthew was a marginalized member of his culture until Jesus raised him up and gave him the vocation of apostle.

IN GOD WE TRUST
"There is, of course, great gain in religion - provided one is content with a sufficiency." -1 Timothy 6:6
There are many who have careers in religion. Praise God for these people who faithfully spend their lives to build up the Church! Jesus says that the laborer in His service is worth his keep (Mt 10:10; 1 Cor 9:14). St. Paul even notes that those in religious service who lead and teach well deserve to be paid double (1 Tm 5:17). However, those who gain from the Gospel must be vigilant to conduct themselves in a way that no one would suspect them of only "being in it for the money" (see 2 Tm 3:2).
Our specific call at Presentation Ministries (PM) is to offer the Gospel free of charge. Like St. Paul, we all receive no salary, so those who can't afford it can receive the Gospel (see 1 Thes 2:9). God will provide for our needs when we serve the Gospel for the sake of the truth. The Gospel of the cross demands great personal sacrifice. We believe God will supply all that we need when we serve Him and spread the Gospel in truth (Phil 4:19).
This is part of the reason why PM does not charge subscriptions or set fees for our publications, such as One Bread, One Body, and other services. We trust God to supply our financial needs as long as our hearts are completely set on spreading His Word. Like St. Paul, we do not want to personally gain from our service of the Gospel, lest we be accused of serving God for personal gain (1 Cor 9:15-18). May the Word of God continue to spread and increase! (Acts 12:24)
Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for those who donate to PM and thus enable many to receive teaching about Your Word.
Promise: "If we have food and clothing we have all that we need." -1 Tm 6:8
Praise: St. Andrew heroically lived for God by travelling many miles to pursue his vocation and by heroically dying for his God.

TRIPLE CROWN - One Bread, One Body, 9/19/2013
Thursday, September 19, 2013, St. Januarius
1 Timothy 4:12-16, Psalm 111:7-10, Luke 7:36-50
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/091913.cfm
TRIPLE CROWN
"Be a continuing example of love, faith, and purity to believers." -1 Timothy 4:12
Paul commanded Timothy to exemplify love, faith, and purity. Love, faith, and purity should all go together. Because of our sins, however, sometimes they don't. Jesus remarked that the woman in today's Gospel had great love, but she seems to be lacking in purity (Lk 7:47). Paul speaks of people who have faith enough to move mountains but do not have love (1 Cor 13:2). Jesus implied that there would be love in the Church, for "they'll know we are Christians by our love" (see Jn 13:35). Yet He questions whether there will be any faith on this earth when He comes again (Lk 18:8). Obviously, faith and love don't always go together. Likewise, love and purity don't always accompany each other. David truly loved God but also fell into sexual impurity (2 Sm 11:4). The Thessalonians had great faith but not such great purity (see 1 Thes 1:8; 4:3).
If we repent and obey the Lord, we will become a continuing example of all three virtues - love, faith, and purity. This triple combination is extremely powerful. For example, Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa are recent examples of all three virtues. "Love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8). "All depends on faith" (Rm 4:16). We can be pure as Jesus is pure (1 Jn 3:3). With this triple combination, we will lead the whole world to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, do anything You want to develop the virtues lacking in my life.
Promise: "I tell you, that is why her many sins are forgiven - because of her great love. Little is forgiven the one whose love is small." -Lk 7:47
Praise: St. Januarius received the ultimate crown of glory by suffering a martyr's death.

"THE CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD" (1 Tm 3:15)
"I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart in the company and assembly of the just." -Psalm 111:1
How do you know what the Lord is saying through the Bible when three Spirit-filled pastors disagree on the interpretation of a Biblical text? The Church is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15).
How do you know if Jesus is really present in the Eucharist? (Very good Christians honestly disagree on such an extremely important matter.) The Church is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15).
Many denominations maintain that morality, especially sexual morality, needs to be updated and applied to our modern times. Yet isn't the truth always the truth? Isn't there right and wrong? Isn't there objective morality? Shouldn't society submit to divine revelation and not vice versa? We need the Church, "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15).
Without the Church, clearly defined and in continuity with the Church founded by Jesus, we don't know what books are in the Bible, how to interpret important parts of it, and how to apply it in our world today. Without the Church, we don't have a Bible, accessibility to the whole truth, or protection from being brainwashed by secular humanism. "I am writing you about these matters so that...you will know what kind of conduct befits a member of God's household, the Church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:14-15).
Prayer: Father, may I know and live the teachings of the Pope, the visible leader of the visible Church.
Promise: "God's wisdom is vindicated by all who accept it." -Lk 7:35
Praise: Martha repented of dabbling in her own ideas of morality and became a staunch defender of Mother Church.

"RISE UP, O MEN OF GOD!"
"The dead man sat up." -Luke 7:15
Do you notice that in many places men are being systematically eliminated from God's service? There are many more widows serving the Lord than widowers. Moreover, there are many spiritual widows. Their husbands are physically alive, but the wives live their faith alone because their husbands are spiritually dead or incapacitated. In addition to all this, the young men are often spiritually dead. There are, of course, many spiritually dead young women, but once again more men seem to be devastated than women.
Jesus alone can deal with this attack on men and on the whole body of Christ. When Jesus entered the town of Naim, "a dead man was being carried out, the only son of a widowed mother" (Lk 7:12). Jesus "said, 'Young man, I bid you get up.' The dead man sat up and began to speak" (Lk 7:14-15). Jesus will do the same for the spiritually dead men of our time.
Maybe we should take quite literally the old hymn, "Rise Up, O Men of God." Many men in our society need nothing less than resurrection from the death of sin. Jesus is "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25). "Whoever believes in [Him], though he should die, will come to life" (Jn 11:26). Men, "arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light" (Eph 5:14). "Rise up, O men of God!"
Prayer: Father, may men be fiercely zealous for Your kingdom.
Promise: "He must be a good manager of his own household, keeping his children under control without sacrificing his dignity." -1 Tm 3:4
Praise: St. Robert, the spiritual father of St. Aloysius, used his giftedness to defend and teach the Catholic faith.

THE LAMB IS WORTHY (Rv 5:9)
"Sir, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You enter my house." -Luke 7:6
In today's Gospel reading, Jewish elders tell Jesus that the centurion is worthy of having his servant healed (Lk 7:5). However, before Jesus gets to the house, the centurion sends friends to tell Jesus he is not worthy to have Him enter his house (Lk 7:6). Is the centurion worthy or not?
He is both worthy and unworthy, and so are we. In the second eucharistic prayer, we thank God for "counting us worthy to stand in His presence." Nevertheless, the Church always calls us to quote the centurion right before we receive Communion. We say: "Lord, I am not worthy." In Christ, we are worthy because He is worthy (Rv 5:2, 9).
Of ourselves, we are neither worthy of God entering our house nor of receiving God's graces, healings, and blessings. To know our unworthiness leads us to seek His worthiness. To know His worthiness makes us love ourselves despite our own unworthiness. Our unworthiness and His worthiness go together. We must accept both of them or neither of them.
Prayer: "Worthy is the Lamb That was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and praise!" (Rv 5:12)
Promise: "First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for all men, especially for kings and those in authority." -1 Tm 2:1-2
Praise: St. Cyprian spoke of God's house by proclaiming: "You cannot have God for your Father if you do not have the Church for your mother."

PM eNewsletter 24th Sunday in ordinary time
September 15th 24th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the feast of
an apostle who lived the good life till You called him.
Then he lived the great life of knowing You.
St. Matthew was a tax collector and enjoyed the
pleasure of a big house, and lots of friends.
But, You, Jesus called him, and he gave it all away.
Please Lord, give us the true understanding, that only
in knowing You, will we ever find the real meaning of life.
Let us see that all the things of this world will pass
away, but being with You will never pass away.
You Christ are the way and truth of life.
Thank You for your love.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday HAVE YOU QUIT FORGIVING,GIVING, AND LIVING?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/15/2013
"Let Me alone, then, that My wrath may blaze up against them to consume them."
-Exodus 32:10
The Lord was about to end His relationship with His chosen people, but He forgave
them instead. Jeremiah wanted to quit his prophetic ministry (Jer 20:9) after he did
not forgive the Israelites (see Jer 18:23). If Jesus hadn't prayed on Calvary for
His Father to forgive us (see Lk 23:34), He may have been severely tempted to come
down from the cross and quit the plan of salvation (see Mt 27:42).
Unforgiveness usually results in our quitting something the Lord wants us to continue,
while forgiveness keeps it going on. If a wife refuses to forgive her husband, she may
quit her marriage or at least quit trying in her marriage. If parents quit forgiving
their children, they might easily quit parenting them. At best, they will just go
through the motions.
Unforgiveness is the main cause of divorce, abuse, dysfunction, and neglect. When we
quit forgiving seventy times seven (see Mt 18:22), we quit giving, loving, and trying.
Eventually, we quit life and eternal life. If we quit forgiving one person, we quit
our relationship with the Lord, for we pray that He forgive us as we forgive others
(Mt 6:12). We must forgive as the father of the prodigal son did, or we will be like
his older unforgiving son (see Lk 15:20, 28). Forgive - or risk quitting life, love,
and God.
Prayer: Father, I decide now to accept Your grace to forgive all those who have ever
hurt me in any way.
Promise: "You can depend on this as worthy of full acceptance: that Christ Jesus came
into the world to save sinners." -1 Tm 1:15
Praise: Praise Jesus, Whose Spirit empowers us to forgive! Thank You, Jesus, for forgiving my sins.

PRAY AND WORK FOR PEACE
"THE CRY FOR PEACE!"
Today ... I wish to add my voice to the cry which rises up with increasing anguish
from every part of the world, from every people, from the heart of each person, from
the one great family which is humanity: it is the cry for peace!
MAY "PEACE BREAK OUT!"
It is a cry which declares with force: we want a peaceful world, we want to be men
and women of peace, and we want in our society, torn apart by divisions and conflict,
that peace break out! War never again! Never again war!
"A PRECIOUS GIFT"
Peace is a precious gift, which must be promoted and protected.
