SAY "I DO" TO I AM
"When it takes place you may believe that I AM." -John 13:19
Jesus foretold that one of His apostles would betray Him so that, when it took place, the apostles would believe that Jesus was the I AM, that is, God (see Ex 3:14). Even in front of a hostile crowd, Jesus said: "I solemnly declare it: before Abraham came to be, I AM" (Jn 8:58). Jesus also promised that, after He was lifted up on the cross, many would realize that He was the I AM (Jn 8:28). Those who do not believe this will surely die in their sins (Jn 8:24). When hundreds of soldiers came to arrest Jesus, they said they were seeking Jesus the Nazorean. Jesus said in response "I AM" (Jn 18:5, 6, 8). At this, "they retreated slightly and fell to the ground" (Jn 18:6).
Jesus repeatedly made it clear that He is the I AM, that is, God. Therefore, we must do more than talk to Him. We must worship Him. Serving Him is not enough. Only our total commitment is the appropriate response to the great I AM. When we believe Jesus is the great I AM, we know that giving Him all of our money, possessions, energy, and time is the least we can do. Say "I do" to I AM.
Prayer: Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All! (see Jn 20:28)
Promise: "The favors of the Lord I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim Your faithfulness." -Ps 89:2
Praise: Pope St. Pius V lived an exemplary life: as a simple friar at the beginning, and later as a humble pope.

WORDS-WORTH
"They proclaimed the word of God." -Acts 13:5
Because we love God's Word, we are thrilled that "the word of the Lord continued to spread and increase" (Acts 12:24; see also Acts 6:7; 19:20).
Because God's Word is sweeter than honey (see Ps 119:103), we devour it. It becomes the joy and the happiness of our hearts (Jer 15:16).
Because God's Word is "more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces" (Ps 119:72), we are willing to leave anything, go anywhere, and risk everything to proclaim the gospel.
Because God's Word will judge us on the last day (Jn 12:48), we are carefully and joyfully obeying even the smallest part of a letter of His Law (see Mt 5:18).
Because we love the Word of the Lord, we desire and attempt to hear the risen Lord proclaim His Word each day at Mass. We live that precious, life-giving, life-saving Word. We share the light of His eucharistic Word by putting it on the lampstand of our lives (Lk 8:16).
Because we love God's Word, we offer you this book, One Bread, One Body. Use it to grow in love for the Lord and His Word. Use it to devour God's Word and to proclaim it to as many people as possible.
"The word of the Lord continued to spread and increase" (Acts 12:24).
Prayer: Risen Lord, burn and purify my heart through Your Word (Lk 24:32).
Promise: "Since I know that His commandment means eternal life, whatever I say is spoken just as He instructed Me." -Jn 12:50
Praise: St. Catherine received the stigmata - the wounds of Jesus in her hands, feet, and heart. Within a few years, she had succeeded in uniting a divided Church. She died to herself to gather God's children together (see Jn 11:51-52).

ETERNAL LIFE IS... - One Bread, One Body, 4/28/2015

ETERNAL LIFE IS...
"I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish." -John 10:28
Jesus promised to give us eternal life, that is, the quality of life that is lived in heaven forever. Jesus kept His promise when He died on the cross and rose from the dead. We received His gift of eternal life when we were baptized. We live eternal life when we give our lives to Jesus and love Him with all our hearts, all our souls, all our minds, and all our strength (see Lk 10:27).
By faith, are we living eternal life right now? If we're not living it on earth before our deaths, why should we expect to live it in heaven after our deaths? If we don't choose to give our lives to Jesus now, why would we want to be with Him forever?
Eternal life is not just a happy, everlasting life; it is primarily a life of total love for Life Himself, Jesus our Lord (Jn 14:6; 11:25). "Eternal life is this: to know You, the only true God, and Him Whom You have sent, Jesus Christ" (Jn 17:3). Eternal life is knowing Jesus personally and deeply. Eternal life is living in God which is living in love, for God is love (1 Jn 4:16). "The testimony is this: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever possesses the Son possesses life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not possess life" (1 Jn 5:11-12). Live totally for Jesus. Accept eternal life.
Prayer: Father, may I let You live in me so I may share in Your divine life (see 2 Pt 1:4).
Promise: "For a whole year they met with the church and instructed great numbers. It was in Antioch that the disciples were called Christians for the first time." -Acts 11:26
Praise: St. Peter's reward for healing the sick of the island of Futuna and learning its language was to be clubbed to death as a martyr of Christ and to gain eternal life on high with Jesus.

THE THROUGH-WAY
"My solemn word is this: I am the Sheepgate." -John 10:7
Jesus is not only the Good Shepherd (Jn 10:11); He is also the Lamb of God (Jn 1:29) and even the Sheepgate. Don't let anyone enter your life, family, or community except through Jesus. For example, don't marry anyone who tries to enter your life through mere friendship or sexual attraction. Don't let people into your life just because of business or money. TV personalities, athletes, and entertainers have a major influence in millions of people's lives, but they probably have not entered through the Sheepgate, Jesus. "Whoever does not enter the sheepfold through the gate but climbs in some other way is a thief and a marauder" (Jn 10:1).
Not only are others trying to enter our lives, but we are entering their lives and worlds. Jesus promises: "I am the Gate. Whoever enters through Me will be safe. He will go in and out, and find pasture" (Jn 10:9). Whatever you get into, make sure it's Jesus' idea. Live in, with, and through Jesus. Then you will be safe rather than hurt, fed rather than drained. If we enter things through our pride, desires, intellect, or selfishness, we will be ripped off, slaughtered, and destroyed (Jn 10:10). If we make Jesus our only Gate, our only Way (Jn 14:6), we will have the fullness of life (Jn 10:10). Jesus is the Through-Way.
Prayer: Father, I pray to You through the Son and in the Spirit.
Promise: "When they heard this they...began to glorify God in these words: 'If this be so, then God has granted life-giving repentance even to the Gentiles.' " -Acts 11:18
Praise: Imitating her beloved Blessed Mother, Sandra forgave the drunk driver who killed her son.

April 26th Fourth Sunday of Easter
This week, Your church celebrates "St. Joseph the worker".
Let us all pray for those who are underemployed or just not employed.
Lord, help businesses all over the world see the dignity of their
workers, and help them furnish their needs.
Jesus, ask St. Joseph to intercede for all workers that we may do our
jobs with pride and joy.
Let us earn wages that are fair, and let us be productive for the good
of our employers.
Let us work and pray for all the people of this world.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE LIFE OF A SHEEP
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/26/2015
"I am the Good Shepherd; the Good Shepherd lays down His life for the
sheep." -John 10:11
"I am the Good Shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me."
-John 10:14
Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep. To be called a sheep
is not a compliment. Sheep are sheepish, that is, backward and timid.
Sheep can't even eat grass without destroying the field where the grass
grows. That's one of the reasons they need shepherds to move them
elsewhere. When Jesus called us "sheep," He implied that we weren't
just weak but helpless. Without Him we can do nothing (Jn 15:5).
We sheep, who are so pathetic, have a hard time living under the easiest
circumstances. What will we do in difficult and dangerous circumstances?
Thieves are coming "only to steal and slaughter and destroy" us
(Jn 10:10). Wolves are trying to snatch, scatter, and kill us (Jn 10:12).
Some of these wolves are in sheep's clothing (Mt 7:15), so some of those
we consider our friends are actually our enemies. Furthermore, some of
our shepherds upon whom we are counting to protect us are merely hired
hands who will abandon us and leave us to be slaughtered (Jn 10:12).
We sheep are simple, weak, and in a "heap of trouble." Our only Hope is
Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Follow Jesus.
Prayer: Jesus, Good Shepherd, lead me through the valley of the shadow
of death (Ps 23:4, RSV-CE).
Promise: "See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be
called children of God! Yet that is what we are." -1 Jn 3:1
Praise: Praise Jesus, Who holds "the keys of death and the nether world"
(Rv 1:18). Praise You, Good Shepherd, that no one can snatch us out of
Your hand (Jn 10:28). Alleluia forever!

One Bread, One Body

ARE YOU LEARNING YOUR LESSONS? - One Bread, One Body, 4/25/2015
Saturday, April 25, 2015, St. Mark
1 Peter 5:5-14, Psalm 89:2-3, 6-7, 16-17, Mark 16:15-20
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/042515.cfm
ARE YOU LEARNING YOUR LESSONS?
"Bow humbly under God's mighty hand, so that in due time He may lift you high." -1 Peter 5:6
John Mark, later known to the world as St. Mark, learned about the power of communal prayer when he saw Peter miraculously freed from prison through the prayers of those gathered at his mother's house (Acts 12:12ff).
John Mark learned about serving the poor and building unity between Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians when he accompanied Barnabas and Paul on a relief mission (Acts 12:25).
John Mark learned about spiritual warfare and his own weaknesses when he quit the first missionary journey of the early Church (Acts 13:13).
John Mark learned that we don't always get a second chance when Paul refused to take him on a second missionary journey (Acts 15:38). He learned that we sometimes do get a second chance when Barnabas took him on a missionary journey (Acts 15:39). John Mark learned more about Jesus and His Church when he was spiritually adopted by Peter (1 Pt 5:13).
John Mark learned about Jesus, the Church, prayer, the poor, unity, mission, people, and life. Then the Lord chose John Mark to write one of the Gospels. The Holy Spirit graced John Mark to write some of the most important words ever written.
The Lord is teaching you now. If you learn your lessons, you will see the Holy Spirit work through you in wondrous ways.
Prayer: Father, may I be docile every day.
Promise: "The Lord continued to work with them throughout and confirm the message through the signs which accompanied them." -Mk 16:20
Praise: The world heard the good news in the form of a gospel from the pen of John Mark. St. Mark began a new era in evangelization when he wrote: "Here begins the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God" (Mk 1:1).

AN INSTRUMENTAL
"This man is the instrument I have chosen." -Acts 9:15
The Lord often decides to work through people, especially members of His body, the Church. After the Lord knocked Saul to the ground and confronted him, He did not continue His work in Saul's life as a solo. He called for Ananias to be instrumental in converting Saul (Acts 9:10ff). Saul then became instrumental in converting both Jews and Gentiles.
The Lord also wants you to be His instrument. You are one of the Lord's instruments in His plans to protect children in the womb from being aborted. You are also God's instrument in proclaiming the Gospel to those with whom you live and work. You are God's instrument in feeding the poor, healing the sick, and driving out demons.
You are God's mouth, hands, and feet. God has decided to make Himself handicapped without your obedient service. In Holy Communion, the Lord gives His flesh and blood to you (Jn 6:55). In a different way, you must give your flesh and blood to Him. He wants your body to be His weapon for justice (Rm 6:13). He wants, and even needs, you at this point in His plan of salvation (see Heb 11:40).
Many of us have prayed the "Prayer of St. Francis." We have asked the Lord to make us "instruments" of His peace. The Lord has answered our prayer. Accept His answer. Be His instrument.
Prayer: Risen Lord, "here I am" (Acts 9:10). Use me for Your Kingdom; use me up.
Promise: "The man who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him." -Jn 6:56
Praise: St. Fidelis is said to have continuously preached the Word of God.

DO YOU BELIEVE?
"I Myself am the living Bread come down from heaven." -John 6:51
Jesus said: "The bread I will give is My flesh, for the life of the world" (Jn 6:51). At the Last Supper, Jesus took the bread and the cup of wine and said: "This is My body," and "This is My blood" (Mt 26:26, 28). When many of Jesus' disciples broke away from Him because of such statements (see Jn 6:66), Jesus didn't change His words or explain them away as figurative statements. The early Church realized this; therefore, they took Jesus' words literally, as He clearly meant them. They believed they were receiving the body and blood of Jesus when they received Holy Communion. The Church, from Jesus' time to the present day, has believed this, lived it, and even died for it.
Do you believe you receive Jesus' body and blood, soul and divinity, when you receive Communion? If so, Communion is the center of your life, one of the most important events of your life, and the greatest time of each day. If you believe what Jesus said about Communion, you will probably try to receive Communion daily, frequently visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and tell others about Jesus' eucharistic love.
Shortly before Jesus died, He gave the apostles Communion. On the day He rose from the dead, He again gave two disciples Communion. Jesus is also preoccupied with giving His body and blood to us, His disciples, today. Open your eyes to recognize the risen Christ (Lk 24:30-31). Today, and daily, receive Communion.
Prayer: Father, may I desire to receive Jesus in Holy Communion as deeply as Jesus desires to give Himself (see Lk 22:15).
Promise: "Philip launched out with this Scripture passage as his starting point, telling him the good news of Jesus." -Acts 8:35
Praise: St. George "endured a great contest of suffering" (Heb 10:32) and remained faithful to the end in his martyrdom.
(For related teaching, order our booklet, "This Is My Body", and our leaflet, "Adoration and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament".)

THE PEOPLE OF THE WORD - One Bread, One Body, 4/22/2015

THE PEOPLE OF THE WORD
"The members of the church who had been dispersed went about preaching the word." -Acts 8:4
The Jewish people loved God's Word. God called them to meditate on it day and night (Jos 1:8; Ps 1:2). They considered it more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces (Ps 119:72).
However, Christians were even more devoted to God's Word than the Jews. After Jesus spent the day of His resurrection teaching the Bible for about seven miles in the afternoon (Lk 24:27) and for several hours in the evening (Lk 24:45), the early Christians got the message that God's Word was extremely important. From the moment the Church began at Pentecost, the members of the Church devoted themselves to learning, living, and teaching God's Word (Acts 2:42). The apostles concentrated on the ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4) to the point that they were repeatedly thrown in jail for their uncompromised and unstoppable proclamation of God's Word (see Acts 5:42). Stephen proclaimed God's Word so boldly and courageously that he became the first martyr (Acts 7:2ff). Philip preached the Word even as he was escaping persecution (Acts 8:4-5). Moreover, the Spirit even told Philip to run up to a stranger from Ethiopia and teach God's Word (Acts 8:29ff). The first believers ever called "Christians" were only given that name after a year of intensive Bible study (Acts 11:26). The members of the church at Beroea welcomed the Word with great enthusiasm and studied God's Word each day (Acts 17:11). The spirit of the early Church is well expressed by St. Jerome: "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" (Catechism, 133).
Prayer: Father, may our hearts burn as the risen Jesus interprets the Scriptures for us this Easter season (see Lk 24:32).
Promise: "No one who comes will I ever reject, because it is not to do My own will that I have come down from heaven, but to do the will of Him Who sent Me." -Jn 6:37-38
Praise: God healed Bob of injuries sustained when he accidentally touched a high-voltage electrical wire.

THE BEST FOR LAST - One Bread, One Body, 4/21/2015

THE BEST FOR LAST
"And with that he died." -Acts 7:60
When we know the risen Christ personally and deeply, our love for Him is stronger than the fear of death (see Sg 8:6; 1 Jn 3:16; 4:18). Satan can no longer enslave, control, or paralyze us through our fear of death (Heb 2:15). Like Stephen, we will speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15), even if it means being martyred. Like Paul, we will consider it a privilege (Phil 1:29) to bear our "share of the hardship which the gospel entails" (2 Tm 1:8) and even to risk our lives daily for love of Jesus (1 Cor 15:31).
Only when we believe in and love the risen Christ will we lay down our lives for Him, for the Church (Eph 5:25), and for our brothers and sisters (1 Jn 3:16). Only when we lay down our lives will we bear much fruit (Jn 12:24). Only when we love enough to die will we live and give life to the full. "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed. While we live we are constantly being delivered to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh" (2 Cor 4:10-11).
Do you love Jesus? Do you believe He is risen from the dead? Do you believe He will raise you? Do you love Him enough to die for Him? We live to prepare to die, for dying is the most important event and crowning glory of our lives. Live and love to die and rise.
Prayer: Father, may my death be Your greatest work in my life.
Promise: "God's bread comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." -Jn 6:33
Praise: St. Anselm wrote one of the most famous treatises on the Incarnation ever written, Cur Deus Homo. He wrote it while in the midst of intense persecution from the King of England.

GETTING WORKED UP?
" 'What must we do to perform the works of God?' Jesus replied: 'This is the work of God: have faith in the One Whom He sent.' " -John 6:28-29
As we enter into the third week of the Easter season, some of you have walked with the risen Christ, listened to Him interpret the Scriptures, and recognized Him in the breaking of the bread (see Lk 24:15, 27, 30-31). Like millions of Christians throughout the centuries, you have cried out: "It is the Lord!" (Jn 21:7)
After meeting your beloved older Brother raised from the dead, you'll never be the same. "The old order has passed away; now all is new!" (2 Cor 5:17) Everything is different - life, people, time, money, possessions, church, and work. You no longer work for "perishable food but for food that remains unto life eternal" (Jn 6:27). Like Andrew, Peter, James, John, and Matthew, some of you are called to leave your jobs. They're not compatible with the risen life. However, most of you are called to do your jobs in a different, risen way. Like Stephen, you will be "filled with grace and power" (Acts 6:8). You will receive such wisdom (see Acts 6:10) that your word will build God's kingdom, bring down the strongholds of the evil one (2 Cor 10:4), and even make you worthy of being persecuted (Acts 5:41).
Work as if a dead God-Man has risen from the dead and now lives in You. Jesus has risen! He lives in you! Work for Him.
Prayer: Father, may I work harder and more joyfully for love of You.
Promise: "The way of truth I have chosen." -Ps 119:30
Praise: Regina works more hours now for God at a volunteer ministry position than she once worked for a salary.
(For related teaching, order our leaflet, Job Performance for Jesus," or our audio tape AV 43-3 or on video V-43.)

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday O, KNOW!
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/19/2015
"Yet I know, my brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, just as your
leaders did." -Acts 3:17
Contrary to the old sayings, ignorance is not bliss and what you don't
know can hurt you and others very much. In addition to sin, ignorance
was the cause of the worst crime ever committed - our murder and
execution of God by crucifixion on Calvary. Paul taught: "None of the
rulers of this age knew the mystery; if they had known it, they would
never have crucified the Lord of glory" (1 Cor 2:8). We "perish for
want of knowledge" (Hos 4:6).
If we know God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we have
eternal life (see Jn 17:3). However, if we don't know the Lord, even
if we say we do (1 Jn 2:4), we are caught up in "a great war of
ignorance" (Wis 14:22). In this state of war and ignorance, people
"celebrate either child-slaying sacrifices or clandestine mysteries,
or frenzied carousals in unheard-of rites, they no longer safeguard
either lives or pure wedlock; but each either waylays and kills his
neighbor, or aggrieves him by adultery. And all is confusion - blood
and murder, theft and guile, corruption, faithlessness, turmoil,
perjury, disturbance of good men, neglect of gratitude, besmirching
of souls, unnatural lust, disorder in marriage, adultery and
shamelessness" (Wis 14:23-26).
The Lord doesn't expect us to know everything. He may not even expect
us to know that much. Nonetheless, He does expect us to know as much
as possible. Know the truth. Know the teachings of Christ's body, the
Church, especially those in the Bible. Know God (Phil 3:10).
Prayer: Father, may I not be misshapen in ignorance (1 Pt 1:14).
Promise: "He opened their minds to the understanding of the Scriptures."
-Lk 24:45
Praise: Praise Jesus, risen from the dead! "Death is swallowed up in
victory" (1 Cor 15:54). Alleluia forever!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
FATHERS AND FAMILIES
THE JOY OF FATHERHOOD
... What consolation and what recompense he receives when the children
honor this legacy! It is a joy that rewards all the toil, that overcomes
every misunderstanding and heals every wound.
"ALWAYS PRESENT"
The first need .... is ... that a father be present in the family. That
he be close to his wife, to share everything, joy and sorrow, hope and
hardship. And that he be close to his children as they grow: when they
play and when they strive, when they are carefree and when they are
distressed, when they are talkative and when they are silent, when they
are daring and when they are afraid, when they take a wrong step and
when they find their path again; a father who is always present.
PRESENT NOT CONTROLLING
To say "present" is not to say "controlling"! Fathers who are too
controlling cancel out their own children, they don't let them develop.

O, KNOW!
"Yet I know, my brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders did." -Acts 3:17
Contrary to the old sayings, ignorance is not bliss and what you don't know can hurt you and others very much. In addition to sin, ignorance was the cause of the worst crime ever committed - our murder and execution of God by crucifixion on Calvary. Paul taught: "None of the rulers of this age knew the mystery; if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory" (1 Cor 2:8). We "perish for want of knowledge" (Hos 4:6).
If we know God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we have eternal life (see Jn 17:3). However, if we don't know the Lord, even if we say we do (1 Jn 2:4), we are caught up in "a great war of ignorance" (Wis 14:22). In this state of war and ignorance, people "celebrate either child-slaying sacrifices or clandestine mysteries, or frenzied carousals in unheard-of rites, they no longer safeguard either lives or pure wedlock; but each either waylays and kills his neighbor, or aggrieves him by adultery. And all is confusion - blood and murder, theft and guile, corruption, faithlessness, turmoil, perjury, disturbance of good men, neglect of gratitude, besmirching of souls, unnatural lust, disorder in marriage, adultery and shamelessness" (Wis 14:23-26).
The Lord doesn't expect us to know everything. He may not even expect us to know that much. Nonetheless, He does expect us to know as much as possible. Know the truth. Know the teachings of Christ's body, the Church, especially those in the Bible. Know God (Phil 3:10).
Prayer: Father, may I not be misshapen in ignorance (1 Pt 1:14).
Promise: "He opened their minds to the understanding of the Scriptures." -Lk 24:45
Praise: Praise Jesus, risen from the dead! "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Cor 15:54). Alleluia forever!

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW? - One Bread, One Body, 4/18/2015
Saturday, April 18, 2015
Acts 6:1-7, Psalm 33:1-2, 4-5, 18-19, John 6:16-21

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?
"The word of God continued to spread, while at the same time the number of the disciples in Jerusalem enormously increased." -Acts 6:7
The early Church needed more workers for the harvest (Mt 9:37). The believers were feeding hundreds of people in their community meal and a whole group was overlooked (Acts 6:1). More workers were needed. They brought this to the attention of the community, which selected "seven men acknowledged to be deeply spiritual and prudent" (Acts 6:3).
Can your church community do the same? Can you raise up seven deeply spiritual men for full-time service? Most church communities have a small minority of men, many of whom are not mature enough to exercise much leadership. They would be hard-pressed to raise up one or two strong men for full-time service. How did the early Church get all these spiritually mature men?
Through community life, the growth rate of men was greatly accelerated. In true Christian community, we can grow more in one year than in twenty years of isolated, individualized "Christianity." Community life is the atmosphere conducive to growth and maturity in Christ. Growing anything is not only a matter of working but of climate. Community is the climate in which a Christian can grow.
Prayer: Father, I repent of destroying the fabric of Christianity by living as an individual rather than as part of a family.
Promise: "They were frightened, but He told them, 'It is I; do not be afraid.' They wanted to take Him into the boat, but suddenly it came aground on the shore." -Jn 6:19-21
Praise: By God's grace, Timothy and Daniel reconciled at a family reunion after many years of not speaking to each other.
(For a related teaching, order our tape on Christian Community" on audio AV 76-1 and AV 76-3 or video V-76.)

LIFE OR LIVING DEATH? (see 1 Jn 3:14) - One Bread, One Body, 4/17/2015
Friday, April 17, 2015
Acts 5:34-42, Psalm 27:1, 4, 13-14, John 6:1-15
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/041715.cfm
LIFE OR LIVING DEATH? (see 1 Jn 3:14)
"If their purpose or activity is human in its origins, it will destroy itself." -Acts 5:38
If you play your cards right, compromise your principles, and do whatever it takes, you can be successful by worldly standards, pass yourself off "as someone of importance," and build up "quite a following" (Acts 5:36-37). Of course, in the end your life will come to nothing and destroy itself (Acts 5:36, 38; see also Lk 9:24).
If you decide to follow Jesus, deny your very self, and take up the cross daily (Lk 9:23), your life will seem to be a joke, an absurdity (1 Cor 1:18; see also 4:9-10). You could have possessed, owned, and consumed so much, but you threw your life away running after a Jewish Carpenter Who said He was God. You won't have much to show for your life except a loaf, a fish, or a few dollars. However, Jesus will multiply your little life to feed the masses (see Jn 6:10ff). Your life will go down in history, be written in the history book of life (see Rv 20:15), and transcend history into eternity.
What a privilege to live for Jesus! One day with Him is better than a thousand elsewhere (Ps 84:11). It's better to suffer with Him than to enjoy life without Him (see Acts 5:41). "You are not to spend what remains of your earthly life on human desires but on the will of God" (1 Pt 4:2). Live and give all for Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I not waste my life on doing my own thing.
Promise: "Day after day, both in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news of Jesus the Messiah." -Acts 5:42
Praise: Mark quit his job for a big business to start his own little one in obedience to God's call.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet, Life Decisions", or on audio AV 44-1 or video V-44.)

THE GOLDEN ARCH - One Bread, One Body, 4/16/2015
Thursday, April 16, 2015
Acts 5:27-33, Psalm 34:2, 9, 17-20, John 3:31-36

THE GOLDEN ARCH
"He Whom God has exalted at His right hand as Ruler and Savior is to bring repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. We testify to this. So too does the Holy Spirit, Whom God has given to those that obey Him." -Acts 5:31-32
To have Easter, we must have Pentecost. Only by the Holy Spirit can we recognize the risen Christ. To receive the Holy Spirit and to live our new life in the Spirit, we must obey God (Acts 5:32).
The Greek word translated "obey" in Acts 5:29, 32 is not the common Greek word for obedience. It includes the prefix "arch," connoting "first" and "authority." In English, we use this prefix in the words "archbishop" and "archangel." Thus, to receive the Holy Spirit we need "arch-obedience." We need more than a utilitarian or even begrudging obedience. We need obedience in which we are consciously submissive to God-given authority. We also need an obedience in which God is put first, and all authorities contrary to Him are disobeyed (Acts 5:29) if they are contrary to God. In "arch-obedience," we are humble before God and rebellious against all authorities rebelling against God. Therefore, "arch-obedience" is confrontational and dangerous. All martyrs had "arch-obedience" and therefore had the Holy Spirit.
Be "arch-obedient." Receive the Holy Spirit. Meet the risen Christ.
Prayer: Father, may I love You so much that I am willing to risk my life for You.
Promise: "Whoever believes in the Son has life eternal. Whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure the wrath of God." -Jn 3:36
Praise: Janet had never fasted a whole day before, but did so for the first time on a Friday, the day her Lord died.

ETERNAL DARKROOM - One Bread, One Body, 4/15/2015

Acts 5:17-26, Psalm 34:2-9, John 3:16-21

ETERNAL DARKROOM
"The judgment of condemnation is this: the Light came into the world, but men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were wicked." -John 3:19
Darkness is the absence of light. You can make a dark room light by turning on a flashlight. However, you can't make a light room dark by turning on a "flashdark." By definition, no one can invent a machine that shines darkness which overpowers light. You can only make a room dark by extinguishing the source of the light.
Jesus came to the world as its Light (Jn 12:46). However, men hated the light of Christ because they preferred evil lifestyles (Jn 3:19). Since they couldn't overcome the Light (Jn 1:5), they extinguished Jesus by crucifying Him.
Alleluia! Jesus has risen! "The Light shines on in darkness" and can no longer be extinguished (Jn 1:5). So now the only way for men to find the darkness they crave is to erect a place to exclude the Light. Photographers do this by building a darkroom to develop their film. Those committed to a lifestyle of sin build their darkroom by erecting walls to exclude Jesus, the Light (Jn 8:12).
If you make the final, irreversible decision to separate yourself from Jesus the Light, there's a place "of definitive self-exclusion from" God (Catechism, 1033). It's called hell. In hell, you are safe forever from being bothered by the light (see Lk 16:26). Sadly, the eternal fire (Mk 9:48), demonic harassments, and ruthless punishments of hell won't bother you much at all compared to the pain of eternal separation from God and His love (see Catechism, 1035). Therefore, repent now! Accept Jesus, Who came to save you, not to condemn you (Jn 3:16-17). Live in His Light.
Prayer: Jesus, apart from You, I can do nothing (Jn 15:5). Protect me from myself. "Draw me" always to You (Sg 1:4; Jn 12:32).
Promise: "I will bless the Lord at all times." -Ps 34:2
Praise: When Robert began reading the Catechism, he learned the Word of God and deepened his relationship with Jesus.

RISEN LIFE IS NEW - One Bread, One Body, 4/14/2015
Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Acts 4:32-37, Psalm 93:1-2, 5, John 3:7-15

RISEN LIFE IS NEW
"You must all be begotten from above." -John 3:7
One simple test of whether or not you're living the radically different risen life is your attitude toward money. If you live the risen life, you aren't preoccupied with money. Like Barnabas and other disciples in the early Church, you'd gladly sell your "property or houses" for the Lord (Acts 4:34). It isn't a problem to tithe and give alms, for you're more concerned with the welfare of the needy than with possessions (Acts 4:34).
Risen life is completely different than life before the resurrection. The difference is even more striking than the contrast between the murky darkness of the womb and the dazzling brightness of sunlight (see Jn 3:3). Risen life is radically different from "non-risen" life. To a person not living the risen life, understanding risen life is like a child in the womb trying to understand the wind outside the womb (see Jn 3:8). They probably can't understand why someone would tithe, but they do hunger for the joy, newness, peace, and freedom they see in those who truly live the risen life.
You may feel like a lead weight instead of a soaring eagle, but risen life has nothing to do with your feelings. It has everything to do with the action of the Holy Spirit begetting you from above (Jn 3:6). Jesus is risen! He is "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25). With Mary, say: "Lord, let it be done to me according to Your will" (see Lk 1:38). Be born to risen life.
Prayer: Jesus, how can I settle for a half-life when You offer me life to the full? (Jn 10:10) I want everything You have for me.
Promise: "Flesh begets flesh, Spirit begets spirit." -Jn 3:6
Praise: Brother Michael gave up all his earthly possessions to live in a foreign land with the poorest of the poor.
