JUMP WHEN I SAY JUMP

Jesus "said: 'Come after Me.' " -Luke 9:59

Jesus calls us to follow Him not on our terms but on His. He does not preach the prosperity gospel. In fact, Jesus doesn't even promise us a roof over our heads. The foxes and birds have better "benefits" than we do (Lk 9:58).
Moreover, Jesus doesn't let us choose our own pace but demands we jump when He says "Jump." "Now is the acceptable time" (2 Cor 6:2), and we've no time to bury fathers or say good-bye to family (Lk 9:60-61).
Jesus demands our "all." It would be unreasonable for anyone else in the world to make such demands. But a crucified, nail-scarred, thorn-crowned Savior has the right to expect all now. The first of all commandments is: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind" (Lk 10:27). After what Jesus has done for us in becoming man and dying on the cross, how can we give Him anything less than everything? The least we can do is the most we can do for Him. Our greatest privilege is to be Jesus' slave (Col 3:24). We are eternally indebted to Him for the honor of serving Him. Thank You, Jesus!

Prayer: Jesus, give me the privilege to work and die for You. "The greatest thing in all my life is serving You."

Promise: "Whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God." -Lk 9:62

Praise: St. Jerome spent four years in the desert, learning God's Word in solitude and prayer.

THE COMING OF RAPHAEL - One Bread, One Body, 9/29/2015

Tuesday, September 29, 2015, Sts. Michael, Gabriel, & Raphael, Archangels

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 or, Revelation 12:7-12, Psalm 138:1-5, John 1:47-51
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092915.cfm

THE COMING OF RAPHAEL

"I solemnly assure you, you shall see..." -John 1:51

Several hundred years ago, the archangel Gabriel was especially recognized through the custom of praying the Angelus. In the Angelus, we think of the annunciation of the good news of Jesus' Incarnation and our salvation. It is customary to pray the Angelus at morning, noon, and evening.
Over a hundred years ago, Pope Leo XIII composed the St. Michael Prayer and thus made the archangel Michael better known and appreciated than ever before. The St. Michael Prayer is a clear statement about the reality and importance of spiritual warfare, that is, warfare against evil spirits (see Rv 12:7ff).
Although many of us pray the Angelus and the St. Michael Prayer, few Catholics are strongly committed to the meaning of these prayers. We refer to St. Gabriel's good news of the Incarnation but may not evangelize. We ask for St. Michael's help in fighting the devil but may be silent and subdued about spiritual warfare in the context of our secular society.
We need St. Raphael to do for us what he did for Tobit. We need our eyes opened to the urgent need for evangelization and the pressing reality of spiritual warfare. "Open your eyes and see! The fields are shining for harvest!" (Jn 4:35) Open your eyes and see the world filled with the fiery chariots of angels and demons (see 2 Kgs 6:17). When we let Raphael open our eyes, we will see why we need Gabriel and Michael more than ever, and we will give these archangels more than lip-service. St. Raphael, do for me what you did for Tobit.

Prayer: Lord, "I want to see" (Mk 10:51).

Promise: "They defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death." -Rv 12:11

Praise: "Raphael pursued [the demon] there and bound him hand and foot" (Tb 8:3).

FAITH-FIGHT - One Bread, One Body, 9/28/2015

Monday, September 28, 2015, St. Wenceslaus, St. Lawrence Ruiz, & Companions

Zechariah 8:1-8, Psalm 102:16-21, 29, 22-23, Luke 9:46-50

FAITH-FIGHT

"Even if this should seem impossible in the eyes of the remnant of this people, shall it in those days be impossible in My eyes also, says the Lord of hosts?" -Zechariah 8:6

The Lord wants us to have an ever-increasing faith that He is the God of the impossible. He wants us to say with the Archangel Gabriel and believe with Mary that "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37). The Lord says to us what He said to Nathanael: "You will see much greater things than that" (Jn 1:50). Jesus even says: "Amen, Amen, I say to you, the one who has faith in Me will do the works I do, and greater than these" (Jn 14:12, our transl). The Lord wants our faith to be deeper, and the effects of our faith to be greater.
The world promotes an ever-decreasing faith. Our secular humanistic culture insinuates that the parting of the Red Sea was a natural phenomenon, the virgin-birth is folklore, Jesus' multiplication of the loaves and fish was merely getting stingy people to share, Jesus' walking on the water was symbolic, Jesus' miracles of healing were psychosomatic, Jesus' victories over the devil were misunderstandings about epilepsy and mental illness, etc.
The textual evidence behind these revisions of the Christian faith is minimal. The more recent attempts to debunk the miraculous are not based on scientific data but unscientific prejudice. They are blatant contrivances for the purpose of weakening the faith of Christians.
Believe much more, not less.

Prayer: Father, "I believe! Help my lack of faith" (Mk 9:24, our transl).

Promise: "Whoever welcomes this little child on My account welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him Who sent Me; for the least one among you is the greatest." -Lk 9:48

Praise: St. Wenceslaus built up his local church and received the crown of martyrdom for it.

PM eNewsletter 26th Sunday in ordinary time

September 27th 26th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week Jesus, Your church celebrates three
great archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael.

These three angels are shining examples of how You
love us, and protect us, by sending them to be Your
messengers to us, and with all of our own guardian
angels to be with us everyday.

Jesus, Your plan of loving us is so amazing that we
can't really understand it or truly appreciate it.

But that doesn't stop You from giving us help that we
need to get through this life, so that someday we will
come home and spend eternity with you.

Thank You for loving us.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday MAKING THE CUT
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/27/2015

"If your hand is your difficulty, cut it off! Better for you to enter
life maimed than to keep both hands and enter Gehenna with its
unquenchable fire." -Mark 9:43

Years ago, I had to change a flat tire at night. While attempting to
remove the tire, the jack shifted unexpectedly, and the car fell off
the jack. My fingers were pinned underneath the tire. Because the full
weight of the car kept my fingers pressed to the road, I could not pull
my fingers free, no matter how hard I tried. After some time, praise
God, some passersby found me and lifted the van just enough to allow me
to pull my fingers free.

My pinned fingers were my "difficulty" (Mk 9:43). Although my fingers
are a small part of my body, they prevented my entire body from being
free. If no one came to help me, I would have faced two choices: 1) cut
off my fingers so my body would be free to live (Mk 9:43), or 2) keep
my fingers and have my whole body die because a small part of it was
captive (Mk 9:43).

If you are a captive in even a small part of your life, you can be
spiritually paralyzed, and headed toward a future in hell (Mk 9:45, 47).
Sin can cling to us and keep us immobile (Heb 12:1). Cut out artificial
contraception, unforgiveness, gossip, anger, and all other sins. Does
anything else hold you captive, such as watching TV, leisure, luxuries,
the pursuit of money, or overeating? Make the cut! Be free. Enter
eternal life.

Prayer: Father, I rate all as rubbish if it separates me from You (Phil 3:8).
May I throw out all my spiritual trash today.

Promise: "Would that the Lord might bestow His Spirit on them all!" -Nm 11:29

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, the risen Lord! You are "merciful and gracious...
slow to anger and abounding in kindness" (Ps 103:8).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI AND CREATION

"A MAGNIFICENT BOOK"
What is more, Saint Francis, faithful to Scripture, invites us to see
nature as a magnificent book in which God speaks to us and grants us a
glimpse of His infinite beauty and goodness. (12)

"A JOYFUL MYSTERY"
Rather than a problem to be solved, the world is a joyful mystery to be
contemplated with gladness and praise. (12)

"OUR COMMON HOME"
... St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a
sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her
arms to embrace us. "Praise be to You, my Lord, through our Sister,
Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various
fruit with colored flowers and herbs." (Canticle of the Creatures) (1)

CROSS PURPOSES - One Bread, One Body, 9/26/2015

Saturday, September 26, 2015, Sts. Cosmas & Damian

Zechariah 2:5-9, 14-15, Jeremiah 31:10-13, Luke 9:43-45
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092615.cfm

CROSS PURPOSES

"The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of men." -Luke 9:44

Jesus said to His disciples: "Pay close attention to what I tell you" (Lk 9:44). Then He told them about the sufferings He would endure (Lk 9:44). The disciples did not grasp the meaning of Jesus' words at all (Lk 9:45). In fact, they did not even want to understand the Lord. "They were afraid to question Him about the matter" (Lk 9:45). This unwillingness to hear the message of the cross continues to the present day.
The message of the cross is the power of God (1 Cor 1:18). We are reconciled with God and each other by the blood of the cross (Col 1:20). Sometimes we must speak of nothing but Christ crucified (1 Cor 2:2). Until we receive the message of the cross, we are in no position to properly understand Jesus as the Messiah (see Mk 8:29-31).
Because the message of the cross is the center of God's revelation, Satan will try to prevent us from ever hearing the truth about the cross. He will try to use "wordy" wisdom to make the cross of Christ void of meaning (1 Cor 1:17). However, by God's grace, we can receive the message of the cross. It can become the heart of our lives. We will then take up our crosses daily (Lk 9:23) and boast of nothing but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Gal 6:14). "Lift high the cross!"

Prayer: Father, when I make the sign of the cross, may it not only be habit but the meaning of my existence.

Promise: "I will be for her an encircling wall of fire, says the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst." -Zec 2:9

Praise: Sts. Cosmas & Damian, twin brothers, gave themselves and ultimately their lives in loving submission to their God.

THE JOYS OF REBUILDING - One Bread, One Body, 9/25/2015

Haggai 1:15-2:9, Psalm 43:1-4, Luke 9:18-22

THE JOYS OF REBUILDING

"Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem like nothing in your eyes? But now take courage." -Haggai 2:3-4

Since Vatican II, the Church in the Western world has seen the closing of parishes, high schools, seminaries, retreat centers, and other Catholic institutions. Some of these institutions the Lord wants to rebuild. For example, in 1999 Bishop Terry Steib of Memphis reopened five inner city schools. In 1998, the diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska bought a hospital and converted it into a seminary. The diocese of Peoria, Illinois speaks of "re-priesting," as parishes which have had only one priest for many years are now served by two or three priests.
The Lord is calling you to be part of this rebuilding. Therefore:
* pray and fast,
* don't be discouraged by small beginnings (Hg 2:3-4; Zec 4:10),
* work (Hg 2:4),
* contribute financially (see Hg 2:7),
* love, suffer, and evangelize, and
* hope.

The Lord has chosen us to live in this time of grace. Love Him with all your hearts, souls, minds, and strength (Lk 10:27). The Lord promises: "The ancient ruins shall be rebuilt for your sake, and the foundations from ages past you shall raise up" (Is 58:12).

Prayer: Father, may I fix my eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:2) and be full of hope.

Promise: "In this place I will give peace, says the Lord of hosts!" -Hg 2:9

Praise: Robert and Margaret raised their children without television, but with much reading of Scripture.

TIME MANAGEMENT - One Bread, One Body, 9/24/2015

Thursday, September 24, 2015

Haggai 1:1-8, Psalm 149:1-6, 9, Luke 9:7-9

TIME MANAGEMENT

"Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?" -Haggai 1:4

Timing is of the essence. "This people says: 'Not now has the time come to rebuild the house of the Lord' " (Hg 1:2). They thought it was time to dwell in their own paneled houses while God's house was in ruins. The prophet Haggai disagreed and prophesied: "Now is the acceptable time" (see 2 Cor 6:2). Now was the time to rebuild the Temple.
The people's timing was bad because they had their priorities wrong. Their priorities were wrong because they were living in selfishness rather than in love. They were living in the self-deception of selfishness rather than in the reality of God Who is Love (see 1 Jn 4:8, 16).
Haggai pointed out that bad timing and wrong priorities are recognizable by our being deprived and dissatisfied sometimes even to the point of emptiness (Hg 1:6). Are you, your marriage, family, or job showing signs of bad timing and wrong priorities? If so, repent of sin and decide to love the Lord with all your heart (see Mt 22:37). Then time will be your friend, not your enemy. Accept Jesus as Lord of your life and time.

Prayer: Father, may I do Your will exactly when You want it done.

Promise: "The Lord loves His people, and He adorns the lowly with victory." -Ps 149:4

Praise: Theresa builds up the Body of Christ by home-schooling her children and raising them as young Christian warriors to live for God.

MIXED MARRIAGES - One Bread, One Body, 9/23/2015

Wednesday, September 23, 2015, St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Ezra 9:5-9, Tobit 13:2-4, 7-8, Luke 9:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092315.cfm

MIXED MARRIAGES

"In my wretchedness, and with cloak and mantle torn I fell on my knees." -Ezra 9:5

Ezra was wretched, ashamed, confounded, and heaped with guilt (Ezr 9:5-6). He was so distraught because of mixed marriages. Many Jewish people had married Gentiles (see Ezr 9:2).
In our society, where men are even trying to "marry" men and women trying to "marry" women, we find it hard to relate to Ezra's anguish. However, in the new covenant, we have even more reason to be concerned about mixed marriages. In the old covenant, when Jews married Gentiles, they married those who were not among the chosen people. However, Christians who marry non-Christians do not share with their spouses the new nature in Christ. Non-Christian spouses are creatures of God but not His sons and daughters. That's why some who became Christians after they had been married considered leaving their non-Christian spouses (1 Cor 7:12). That's why Paul taught that widows were free to remarry "on one condition, that it be in the Lord" (1 Cor 7:39).
Although the most severely mixed marriages are when Christians marry non-Christians, other mixed marriages of much lesser but still significant degrees are when Catholics marry non-Catholics or when committed Catholics marry lukewarm Catholics. The Lord does not want married couples to be unequally yoked. For love of God and all people, let us pray, as Ezra prayed, for a miracle.

Prayer: Father, restore Your order to marriages and society.

Promise: "Take nothing for the journey, neither walking staff nor traveling bag; no bread, no money." -Lk 9:3

Praise: God gave St. Pio the gift of reading hearts, particularly when hearing Confessions. He overcame demons and cured diseases by the power of God.

DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM - One Bread, One Body, 9/22/2015

DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM

"Let the governor and the elders of the Jews continue to work on that house of God; they are to rebuild it on its former site." -Ezra 6:7

The Israelites rebuilt the Temple with the support of government taxes and the prophetic messages of Haggai and Zechariah. That is an unusual combination. Governments and prophets don't usually mix. However, the Lord can do anything and use anyone at any time for His glory. The Israelites never dreamed a Persian king would be used to rebuild the Temple. We never dreamed the Lord would transform Eastern Europe and Russia as He has. The Lord continues to manifest His sovereign power by doing things we have never seen, heard, or even thought of (1 Cor 2:9).
He is Lord. He is not dismayed or helpless before the sin, rebellion, and confusion of our times. He can do all things. His victory is already won on Calvary. He has risen from the dead and is forever seated at the right hand of His Father's throne. He is Lord of lords and King of kings (Rv 19:16). Nothing is impossible for Him (Lk 1:37).
Therefore, pray for the impossible. Expect the inconceivable. Believe in the miraculous. He is Lord. He is risen from the dead and He is Lord. Alleluia!

Prayer: Father, leave me speechless before Your glory.

Promise: "My mother and My brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it." -Lk 8:21

Praise: The doctors told Joan she would not be able to have children. Joan put her trust in the Lord and conceived a miracle child.

(For a related teaching, order our tape on I Believe in Miracles" on video V-63 or audio AV 63-3.)

I'D LOVE TO...

"As He moved on, Jesus saw a man named Matthew at his post where taxes were collected. He said to him, 'Follow Me.' " -Matthew 9:9

We hear the Lord knocking on the door and calling us by name (Rv 3:20). We sense something inside drawing us to Jesus. He still is calling today's "Matthews" to follow Him.
Nevertheless, we are afraid to say "Yes." We're afraid of what people will think. It has never been popular to follow Jesus. To be His disciple means becoming a fool in the eyes of the world (1 Cor 4:10).
We are afraid and hesitate to follow the Lord because we are not secure in His love. If we knew deep down that He died on the cross out of love for each one of us, we wouldn't worry about playing the fool. We would be afraid not to follow Jesus, instead of afraid to follow Him. When we know we are loved by God Himself, unconditionally, sacrificially, and eternally, we are freed from worldly manipulation and freed for obedience to Jesus.
Jesus again is calling: "Follow Me." Secure in His love, let us come to Him.

Prayer: Father, may I come to know and believe in the love You have for me (1 Jn 4:16).

Promise: "Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin and peace as its binding force." -Eph 4:3

Praise: St. Matthew left the false security of the world's kingdom for the true security of God's kingdom.

PM eNewsletter 25th Sunday in ordinary time

Sept 20th Twenty fifth Sunday in ordinary time

We call this season of the year, ordinary time, yet in You
nothing is ordinary.

Just to know You in the Eucharist, and see You in the breaking
of the bread, should be for us a cause of great joy.

The fact that You are always with us in all the tabernacles of
the world, ready to listen and help us, should give us a
tremendous sense of peace.

We know that You are truly there, just waiting for us to visit,
and give You praise and glorify, thank You, the Christ.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday MAKING AND BEING THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/20/2015

"The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men who will
put Him to death." -Mark 9:31

The Lord's favorite subject is the cross. However, we naturally don't
understand His message of the cross (Mk 9:32). Moreover, we are afraid
of the cross (Mk 9:32). Therefore, we don't want to understand Jesus
regarding the cross. We will not even question Him about it (Mk 9:32)
but merely talk about something else - like ourselves. However, Jesus
will question us if we won't question Him. He'll ask us: "What were you
discussing?" (Mk 9:33) We may fall silent because we are ashamed of
ourselves and our preoccupation with ourselves (see Mk 9:34). This shame
and guilt can be the beginning of our repentance, of the restoration of
our communication with Jesus, and of our acceptance of the way of the cross.

I invite you to look at a crucifix or a picture of Jesus on the cross
for at least one minute a day for nine days. God will give you the grace
to speak of nothing but the cross (1 Cor 2:2) and boast of nothing but the
cross (Gal 6:14). You will find joy (see Col 1:24) in carrying the crosses
of being persecuted, giving forgiveness, doing penance, making sacrifices,
fasting, serving, loving enemies, choosing poverty, making commitments, and
loving your vocation. Fix your eyes on Christ crucified.

Prayer: Father, make my life a "sign of the cross."

Promise: "Let us condemn Him to a shameful death; for according to His own
words, God will take care of Him." -Wis 2:20

Praise: Praise Jesus, condemned "to a shameful death" (Wis 2:20), Who rose
again in glory!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2015-09.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI AND CREATION

COMMUNING WITH ALL CREATION

... Whenever he would gaze at the sun, the moon or the smallest of animals,
he burst into song, drawing all other creatures into his praise. He
communed with all creation, even preaching to the flowers, inviting them
to "praise the Lord, just as if they were endowed with reason." (11)

"BONDS OF AFFECTION"

His response to the world around him was so much more than intellectual
appreciation or economic calculus, for to him each and every creature was
a sister united to him by bonds of affection. That is why he felt called to
care for all that exists. (11)

"AWE AND WONDER"

If we approach nature and the environment without this openness to awe and
wonder, if we no longer speak the language of fraternity and beauty in our
relationship with the world, our attitude will be that of masters,
consumers, ruthless exploiters, unable to set limits on their immediate
needs. By contrast if we feel intimately united with all that exists, then
sobriety and care will well up spontaneously. The poverty and austerity of
St. Francis were no mere veneer of asceticism, but something much more
radical: a refusal to turn reality into an object simply to be used and
controlled. (11)

MAKING AND BEING THE SIGN OF THE CROSS

"The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men who will put Him to death." -Mark 9:31

The Lord's favorite subject is the cross. However, we naturally don't understand His message of the cross (Mk 9:32). Moreover, we are afraid of the cross (Mk 9:32). Therefore, we don't want to understand Jesus regarding the cross. We will not even question Him about it (Mk 9:32) but merely talk about something else - like ourselves. However, Jesus will question us if we won't question Him. He'll ask us: "What were you discussing?" (Mk 9:33) We may fall silent because we are ashamed of ourselves and our preoccupation with ourselves (see Mk 9:34). This shame and guilt can be the beginning of our repentance, of the restoration of our communication with Jesus, and of our acceptance of the way of the cross.

OBEDIENCE SCHOOL - One Bread, One Body, 9/19/2015

Saturday, September 19, 2015, St. Januarius

1 Timothy 6:13-16, Psalm 100:1-5, Luke 8:4-15

OBEDIENCE SCHOOL

"I charge you to keep God's command without blame or reproach." -1 Timothy 6:14

The Lord charges us to obey Him. Pastors tell parishioners to obey the Lord. Parents command their children to obey. Christians who love each other charge each other to obey the Lord (see Jn 15:10).
However, we are naturally inclined to disobey, "do our own thing," and not listen to others, even to God Himself. By the Lord's death and our Baptism into His death (Rm 6:3), we have been given a new nature - one that is not fallen and not tending toward disobedience. However, we are repeatedly tempted to fall back into our old disobedient nature and not live and obey by faith.
First, we will obey the Lord and not fall into temptation if we fear the Lord Who is commanding us to obey Him. How dare we refuse to obey the Creator of all things (see 1 Tm 6:13), "the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords Who alone has immortality and Who dwells in unapproachable light"! (1 Tm 6:15-16)
Second, we will obey the Lord if we fix our eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:2), crucified and courageous (see 1 Tm 6:13).
Third, we will be much more likely to obey the Lord if we are well aware that "our Lord Jesus Christ shall appear" (1 Tm 6:14) a second and final time.
Live a life of obedience (1 Pt 1:2).

ASSISTANCE PLEASE

"Mary called the Magdalene, from whom seven devils had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others...were assisting them out of their means." -Luke 8:2-3

Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and many others assisted Jesus and the apostles out of their means. Many of you have assisted the Church out of your means. Many have assisted Presentation Ministries and One Bread, One Body out of your means.
Although the Church greatly needs assistance, and assistance can be a supernatural gift of the Spirit (1 Cor 12:28), the charism and ministry of assisting others out of our means is often unknown and unappreciated. Have you ever prayed for the spiritual gift of assisting others? Did you know that there was such a gift?
Although we may not often think of the gift of assistance, the Lord values it highly. On the morning of His resurrection, the risen Lord came first to one of His assistants, Mary Magdalene (Jn 20:14ff). The Lord may have been making a statement about the importance of assisting Him and His people.
Ask the Lord to make you like Mary Magdalene. Assist Jesus and the Church financially. Like Mary Magdalene, assist Jesus, even by suffering with Him at the foot of His cross (Jn 19:25). Like Mary Magdalene, throw yourself at the feet of the risen Christ. Assistance is so important because assistance is love. Assistance, please.

Prayer: Father, may I die to self to assist Your people.

Promise: "Fight the good fight of faith. Take firm hold on the everlasting life to which you were called when, in the presence of many witnesses, you made your noble profession of faith." -1 Tm 6:12

Praise: Tim repented of fornication and expressed it by moving out of his girlfriend's house and giving his life to Jesus.

LOVE-MAKINGS - One Bread, One Body, 9/17/2015

Thursday, September 17, 2015, St. Robert Bellarmine

1 Timothy 4:12-16, Psalm 111:7-10, Luke 7:36-50
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/091715.cfm

LOVE-MAKINGS

"Little is forgiven the one whose love is small." -Luke 7:47

Even what we call the slightest sin is an abomination before the all-holy God. Therefore, because we all have sinned, we deserve to receive God's wrath (Eph 2:3) and to be punished forever in hell. However, the Lord took our sins and their punishment on Himself. He died on the cross to save us from sin and its consequences. If we repent and thereby accept Jesus' death and forgiveness, we have accepted salvation. When we realize what Jesus has done for us, we live lives of thanksgiving (Lk 7:42) and love. We feel compelled to throw ourselves at the feet of Jesus, wash His feet with our tears, and kiss them in love and gratitude (Lk 7:37-38).
Do you realize what Jesus did for you on Calvary? Do you realize what difference it makes to be freed from sin? If so, act and love accordingly. We are great lovers because we have been great sinners who realize we've been greatly forgiven. The makings of love are: our sin + Jesus' death + our repentance = forgiveness. Finally, forgiveness + realization = love.
Repent, realize Jesus' forgiveness, and love Him with abandon.

Prayer: Father, I will act and love like a person snatched from hell.

Promise: God "has sent deliverance to His people; He has ratified His covenant forever; holy and awesome is His name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; prudent are all who live by it. His praise endures forever." -Ps 111:9-10

Praise: St. Robert, the spiritual father of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, used his giftedness to defend and teach the Catholic faith.

PLANS FOR THE SELF-MADE MAN

"Wonderful, indeed, is the mystery of our faith." -1 Timothy 3:16

God has plans for us - plans for our welfare, not for woe, plans to give us "a future full of hope" (Jer 29:11). The Lord plans to lead us "to springs of life-giving water" (Rv 7:17), that is, to heaven. There He "will wipe every tear" from our eyes (Rv 7:17).
However, we can ruin God's plans for us by refusing to repent (Lk 7:30) and by being selfish (Lk 7:32ff). Therefore, let us die to self before we die from self. We all are born "self-aholic." Only Jesus can set us free from the tyranny of self. "He died for all so that those who live might live no longer for themselves" (2 Cor 5:15). Jesus commands us: "No man should seek his own interest but rather that of his neighbor" (1 Cor 10:24). "Let all parties think humbly of others as superior to themselves, each of you looking to others' interests rather than to his own" (Phil 2:3-4). Jesus teaches: "If anyone comes to Me without turning his back on his father and mother, his wife and his children, his brothers and sisters, indeed his very self, he cannot be My follower" (Lk 14:26). "He who seeks only himself brings himself to ruin, whereas he who brings himself to nought for Me discovers who he is" (Mt 10:39).
Look at a crucifix. See in it the perfect picture of dying to self. By His grace, decide to die to self. Then you will find yourself, and God's plans for your life will not be ruined but fulfilled.

Prayer: Father, may I not be self-made but God-made.

Promise: "You will know what kind of conduct befits a member of God's household, the Church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth." -1 Tm 3:15

Praise: During St. Cyprian's years as bishop, he faithfully persevered while suffering a persecution, two schisms, and a plague.

MOTHER OF SORROWS

"Near the cross of Jesus there stood His mother." -John 19:25

Yesterday we celebrated the Exaltation of the Holy Cross; today we celebrate the sorrows of the cross for Mary and for all those who have chosen to take up their daily crosses (Lk 9:23). We received the triumphs of the cross when we were baptized into the new life in Jesus. We experience the sorrows of the cross in addition to its triumphs when we faithfully and daily live our Baptism. Finally, we receive the ultimate triumph of the cross when Jesus returns or our spirits are raised from the dead - whichever comes first.
The sorrows of the cross are between its triumphs. "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed" (2 Cor 4:10). We "fill up what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of His body, the church" (Col 1:24). Like Mary, our hearts are pierced with a sword of sorrow (Lk 2:35). Like Jesus, we learn obedience from what we suffer (Heb 5:8).
"It is your special privilege to take Christ's part - not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for Him" (Phil 1:29). It is your privilege to love enough to be a sorrowful mother, sorrowful father, or sorrowful Christian. "Blest too are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled" (Mt 5:4). "Rejoice instead, in the measure that you share Christ's sufferings. When His glory is revealed, you will rejoice exultantly" (1 Pt 4:13). Mother of Sorrows, pray for us.

Prayer: Father, may I know how to share in Christ's "sufferings by being formed into the pattern of His death" (Phil 3:10).

Promise: Jesus "became the Source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him." -Heb 5:9

Praise: Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, forgave and prayed with those apostles who abandoned her Son to a violent death (see Acts 1:13-14).

(For a related teaching, order our tape "Redemptive Suffering" on audio AV 75-1 or video V-75.)

NO LOSS AT THIS CROSS

"He humbled Himself, obediently accepting even death, death on a cross! Because of this, God highly exalted Him." -Philippians 2:8-9

John's Gospel particularly highlights the exaltation of the cross of Jesus. John proclaims that the cross is the catalyst for faith leading to eternal life (Jn 3:15-16), and where we finally recognize that Jesus is God (Jn 8:28-29).

As a subject of King Jesus, you are called to bear a daily cross (Lk 9:23). Do you carry your cross in such a way that it proclaims to everyone that "Jesus Christ is Lord"? (Phil 2:11) You are blessed with the unspeakable privilege of sharing in the victorious cross of King Jesus. Therefore, glory in the cross and carry your cross so as to triumph.

Prayer: King Jesus, grant that I may carry my cross in a way that proclaims You as Victor rather than a heartless taskmaster.

Promise: "Yes, God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him may not die but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." -Jn 3:16-17

Praise: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world."

PM eNewsletter 24th Sunday in ordinary time

September 13th 24th Sunday in ordinary time.

Oh! Jesus, what sorrow can be more painful then a mother
watching her beloved Son die a most horrible death.

This week our church honors Mary of "Lady of sorrows" who
stood at Your cross and saw You die.

Yet her faith was not dimmed, because her trust in the
Father continued.

Please, oh! Jesus, give us some of that faith that we might
continue to face all the problems of life with the faith of Mary.

Lord, let us give You praise and glory throughout our lives.

Lord, let us have the peace that only You can give, and let
Your love guide us always.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE PRIVILEGE OF SUFFERING (Phil 1:29)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/13/2015

"He began to teach them that the Son of Man had to suffer much, be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, be put to death, and rise
three days later. He said these things quite openly." -Mark 8:31-32

Jesus is very open about the fact that we will have to suffer and bear our
"share of the hardship which the gospel entails" (2 Tm 1:8). He bluntly
states that we who follow Him must deny ourselves and take up the cross
(Mk 8:34). Suffering is the way of salvation, necessary for the completion
of God's plan of salvation. We fill up in our own flesh "what is lacking in
the sufferings of Christ for the sake of His body, the Church" (Col 1:24).

This does not mean that all suffering is God's will. Jesus repeatedly takes
people out of suffering by healing and delivering them. Every hospital,
doctor's office, and social service agency exists to alleviate suffering.
Yet some sufferings are in the pattern of Jesus' death (Phil 3:10). These
we should not relieve but accept as our sharing in the sufferings of Christ.

"See to it none of you suffers for being a murderer, a thief, a malefactor,
or a destroyer of another's rights. If anyone suffers for being a Christian,
however, he ought not to be ashamed. He should rather glorify God in virtue
of that name" (1 Pt 4:15-16).

Prayer: King Jesus, may I be found worthy of Your kingdom and suffer for it
(2 Thes 1:5).

Promise: "The Lord God is my Help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set
my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame." -Is 50:7

Praise: Praise be to the risen Jesus, Whose Word rouses the weary! (Is 50:4)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2015-09.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI AND CREATION

"OUR COMMON HOME"

... St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister
with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to
embrace us. "Praise be to You, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with colored
flowers and herbs." (Canticle of the Creatures) (1)

A GREAT EXAMPLE

I believe that Saint Francis is the example par excellence of care for the
vulnerable and of an integral ecology lived out joyfully and authentically
... He was particularly concerned for God's creation and for the poor and
the outcast. He loved, and was deeply loved for his joy, his generous
self-giving, his openheartedness. (10)

SIMPLICITY AND HARMONY

He was a mystic and a pilgrim who lived in simplicity and in wonderful
harmony with God, with others, with nature and with himself. He shows us
just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for
the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace. (10)
