CATHOLIC WORKER
"Isn't this the carpenter's Son?" -Matthew 13:55
Pope Pius XII instituted today's feast of St. Joseph the Worker to compete with the May Day celebrations in Communist countries. We have the obscure carpenter of Nazareth (see Mt 13:55) pitted against the Goliath of multi-national, atheistic Communism. For years, on this day, the Communists paraded their armies, missiles, tanks, and guns, while Joseph called us to do the manual tasks of everyday life with our whole being and "in the name of the Lord Jesus" (Col 3:17). Of course, the Communists and the capitalists largely ignored Joseph and his little workers, occasionally noticing them enough to laugh at them. Yet in the name of his foster-Son Jesus, Joseph and his workers have prevailed over Soviet Communism. They will eventually also bring Chinese Communism and unbridled capitalism to their knees, for every knee shall bend (Is 45:23).
You can be one of St. Joseph's workers and look like a fool (see 1 Cor 4:10), or you can work for yourself rather than for the Lord and actually be a fool (see Lk 12:20). "You should not be working for perishable food but for food that remains unto life eternal, food which the Son of Man will give you" (Jn 6:27). "Be slaves of Christ the Lord" (Col 3:24).
Prayer: Father, may my way of working be so radically different as to provoke questions from non-Christians.
Promise: "Your kingdom is a kingdom for all ages, and Your dominion endures through all generations." -Ps 145:13
Praise: St. Joseph "did as the angel of the Lord had directed him" (Mt 1:24).

The Holy Spirit instructs us about:
* being witnesses for the risen Christ (Acts 1:8),
* "God's wisdom: a mysterious, a hidden wisdom" (1 Cor 2:7),

Be docile to the Holy Spirit's instructions.
Prayer: Father, may the Spirit be as active as possible in my life.
Promise: "Anyone who loves Me will be true to My word, and My Father will love him; We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him." -Jn 14:23

PM eNewsletter 5th Sunday of Easter
April 29th Fifth Sunday of Easter
Jesus, our lives are so busy, most of us have no time to do what we really ought to be doing,
and that is giving You praise and prayer.
Christ, give us the grace to come to see You in the Eucharist, Your Body and Blood, and let
us just stop all of our activity, and just adore You.
Lord, let us just sit with You, and let You help us to put our lives in true order.
Jesus, You are the answer to all of our problems and Your way is the only way that leads to
peace and joy.
Please Lord, give us the grace to understand that.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/29/2018
"When [Saul] arrived back in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples there; but it turned out
that they were all afraid of him. They even refused to believe that he was a disciple."
-Acts 9:26
Disciples of Jesus bear fruit for the Lord, fruit that is evident to other disciples. Disciples
also imitate the Lord Jesus in His character, that is, His holiness, and in His ministry, that
is in bringing others to the Lord.
It's very understandable that the Jerusalem Christians did not believe that Saul of Tarsus,
that is, the Apostle Paul, was a disciple. The only fruit from Saul that they had seen was fury
(Acts 26:11), anger, and determined, far-reaching persecution. Some of the Jerusalem disciples
possibly had loved ones who were martyred, partly through the persecution of Saul
(see Acts 26:10). "Then Barnabas took [Saul] in charge and introduced him to the apostles. He
explained to them how on his journey Saul had seen the Lord, Who had conversed with him"
(Acts 9:27).
Barnabas' role was critically important. He had seen the mighty works for the Lord that Saul
had done in Damascus. The Jerusalem Christians had not seen those works, but they did know and
trust Barnabas, whom they had seen sell his property and donate the proceeds to the Church
(Acts 4:37). Without Barnabas to vouch zealously for Saul, a great reconciliation might not
have occurred.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, commit today to become evergreater disciples of Jesus Christ.
God is glorified when you bear enduring, lasting fruit and become disciples of Jesus (Jn 15:8).
Prayer: Jesus, I want to spend my life bringing joy to Your heart by bringing many souls to You.
Promise: "I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who lives in Me and I in him, will produce
abundantly." -Jn 15:5
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit (Mk 1:8).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-04.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
FAKE NEWS, TRUTH, AND PEACE
"RADICAL ANTIDOTE"
So how do we defend ourselves? The most radical antidote to the virus of falsehood is
purification by the truth. In Christianity, truth is not just a just a conceptual reality that
regards how we judge things, defining them as true or false... Truth involves our whole life...
Truth is something you can lean on, so as not to fall... The only truly reliable and
trustworthy One ... is the Living God. Hence, Jesus can say: "I am the truth"( Jn 14:6)
JESUS LIBERATES
We discover and rediscover the truth when we experience it within ourselves in the loyalty and
trustworthiness of the One who loves us. This alone can liberate us: "The truth will set you
free" (Jn 8:32).
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
The best antidotes to falsehoods are not strategies, but people: who are not greedy but ready
to listen, people who make the effort to engage in sincere dialogue so that the truth can
emerge; people who are attracted by goodness and take responsibility for how they use language
.. A weighty responsibility rests on the shoulders of those whose job is to provide
information, namely, journalists, the protectors of news.

DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES - One Bread, One Body, 4/29/2018
Sunday, April 29, 2018, Fifth Sunday of Easter
Acts 9:26-31, 1 John 3:18-24, Psalm 22:26-28, 30-32, John 15:1-8

DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES
"When [Saul] arrived back in Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples there; but it turned out that they were all afraid of him. They even refused to believe that he was a disciple." -Acts 9:26
Disciples of Jesus bear fruit for the Lord, fruit that is evident to other disciples. Disciples also imitate the Lord Jesus in His character, that is, His holiness, and in His ministry, that is in bringing others to the Lord.
It's very understandable that the Jerusalem Christians did not believe that Saul of Tarsus, that is, the Apostle Paul, was a disciple. The only fruit from Saul that they had seen was fury (Acts 26:11), anger, and determined, far-reaching persecution. Some of the Jerusalem disciples possibly had loved ones who were martyred, partly through the persecution of Saul (see Acts 26:10). "Then Barnabas took [Saul] in charge and introduced him to the apostles. He explained to them how on his journey Saul had seen the Lord, Who had conversed with him" (Acts 9:27).
Barnabas' role was critically important. He had seen the mighty works for the Lord that Saul had done in Damascus. The Jerusalem Christians had not seen those works, but they did know and trust Barnabas, whom they had seen sell his property and donate the proceeds to the Church (Acts 4:37). Without Barnabas to vouch zealously for Saul, a great reconciliation might not have occurred.
He who lives in Me and I in him, will produce abundantly." -Jn 15:5
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit (Mk 1:8).

"We now turn to the Gentiles." -Acts 13:46
"Jesus sent these men on mission as the Twelve, after giving them the following instructions: 'Do not visit pagan territory and do not enter a Samaritan town. Go instead after the lost sheep of the house of Israel' " (Mt 10:5-6). Although Jesus delivered a Canaanite woman's daughter from the devil, He did not proclaim God's kingdom to her (Mt 15:26-28). Therefore, the early Christians believed that life in Christ was for Jews only. The Old Testament prophecies about saving the nations were thought to refer only to the Jews scattered throughout the world. After all, three-thousand were baptized at the first Christian Pentecost, and they were all Jews. However, when Peter was led by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel to Cornelius and his household, this appeared contrary to Jesus' seeming plan for Christianity only for Jews (Acts 10:1ff).
This situation was further complicated by the conversion to Christ of Gentiles in Antioch of Syria (Acts 11:20ff). Then Barnabas was sent by the Jewish Jerusalem Church to investigate these irregularities. He concluded that these conversions of Gentiles were authentic. Nevertheless, Paul and Barnabas preached the gospel only to Jews until they, as leaders and representatives of the Jewish Church, made the bold decision to preach to the Gentiles (Acts 13:46).
Our reaction to this turn of events should be that of St. Paul: "How deep are the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How inscrutable His judgments, how unsearchable His ways!" (Rm 11:33) Be awed by the mercy and mystery of God.
Prayer: Father, may I never take for granted that I am included in Your plan of salvation.
Promise: "I solemnly assure you, the man who has faith in Me will do the works I do, and greater far than these." -Jn 14:12
Praise: Less than a year after St. Peter's martyrdom on a south sea island, the island's entire population converted to Christianity.

NO LIMITS ON THE LORD - One Bread, One Body, 4/27/2018

NO LIMITS ON THE LORD
"We do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?" -John 14:5
St. Thomas asked Jesus how to know the way to where He would go. Jesus responded with a serious, profound answer. To the next request from St. Philip to show the disciples the Father, however, Jesus did not respond with such a profound answer. Instead, Jesus expressed exasperation.
Why did Jesus respond so differently to the two questions? Possibly it is because of the intentions behind the two requests. Although we can't know the motives of each apostle, the text provides a few hints.
Thomas' question seems to be asked with the intent of knowing the way because he intended to keep following Jesus in whichever direction Jesus moved. Earlier, Thomas advocated following Jesus even to death (Jn 11:16). Jesus no doubt would have been pleased with such obedient devotion, and gave Thomas an answer that has echoed through the centuries: "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me" (Jn 14:6). Philip asked a question that ended with the statement that said if he got what he wanted, that would be "enough" (Jn 14:8).
One man apparently put no limits on what Jesus could do with him; the other man possibly did. Are your requests pleasing to Jesus? Are you putting no limits on what Jesus is permitted to do in your life?
Prayer: Father, I am all Yours. I beg You to take all of my life and use it for any purpose You choose.
Promise: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God and faith in Me." -Jn 14:1
Praise: Tom and Louise stopped thinking of limiting their family, allowed God to bless them as He wished, and were blessed with triplets.

THE BEST FROM THE WORST - One Bread, One Body, 4/26/2018
Thursday, April 26, 2018

THE BEST FROM THE WORST
"My purpose here is the fulfillment of Scripture: 'He who partook of bread with Me has raised his heel against Me.' " -John 13:18
What a terrible sin it was for Judas to betray Christ for thirty pieces of silver! Yet the Lord brought good out of this abomination by predicting it so that, when it took place, Jesus' disciples believed that He is the I AM, that is, God (Jn 13:19). Out of Judas' betrayal, the Lord brought salvation and faith in His divinity. "God makes all things work together for the good of those who" love Him (Rm 8:28). "The Lord has made everything for His own ends, even the wicked for the evil day" (Prv 16:4). "Indeed, everything is ordered to your benefit, so that the grace bestowed in abundance may bring greater glory to God because they who give thanks are many" (2 Cor 4:15).
The Lord wants to bring good out of your most terrible sin. He wants to lead you and many others to repentance, healing, and holiness. If you have not confessed this sin in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, do so as soon as possible - by this coming weekend. If you have already confessed your most terrible sin, thank the Lord for His forgiveness, ask for healing, totally give your life to Jesus, and look for opportunities to help others avoid committing your worst sin or help them repent of this sin. Let Jesus do the miracle of working all things together for the good of those who love Him.
Prayer: Father, may every detail of Your plan for my life be fulfilled.
Promise: "I have found David son of Jesse to be a man after My own heart who will fulfill My every wish." -Acts 13:22
Praise: After many years away from the Church, Mary Ann went to Confession and was welcomed home.

MAKING YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD - One Bread, One Body, 4/25/2018
Wednesday, April 25, 2018, St. Mark
1 Peter 5:5-14, Psalm 89:2-3, 6-7, 16-17, Mark 16:15-20

MAKING YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD
"Proclaim the good news to all creation." -Mark 16:15
The early Church, and St. Mark, did their very best to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole world (Mk 16:15). The apostles and disciples used every means available to them in the time of Christ: traveling on foot over many miles, meeting people in public places, synagogues, the Temple, in homes, etc. St. Mark, also known as John (Acts 13:5, 13) and John Mark (Acts 12:12, 25; 15:37), even was a member of the first missionary journey.
Finally, St. Mark, trying to permeate the culture with the Gospel of Jesus (see Catechism, 899), found a new means to share the Good News. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he developed a new format, the written word in the form of a Gospel narrative. This format stands the test of time. Even two-thousand years later, many millions of people have read this Gospel and have given their lives to Jesus. Many people in heaven are there now because of St. Mark's innovation and dedication to spreading the Word of God. Many of you who read this share such hope.
Be a St. Mark. In this modern age, there are so many ways to communicate that didn't exist in St. Mark's time, due to technology. The possibility exists to span the globe through social media, webpages, e-mail, text messaging, and so on. Moreover, studies show that the traditional person-to-person contact still remains the most effective means to reach a person's heart. May you discover a lasting means to reach many with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Father, may many people come to be with You forever in heaven because of my dedication to spreading the gospel.
Promise: "Bow humbly under God's mighty hand, so that in due time He may lift you high." -1 Pt 5:6
Praise: Although St. Mark once ran from suffering and persecution (see Acts 13:13), he later proclaimed Jesus at all costs.

THE "LOOK" OF SELFLESS LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 4/24/2018

THE "LOOK" OF SELFLESS LOVE
"Then Barnabas went off to Tarsus to look for Saul." -Acts 11:25
A big temptation of being a disciple of Christ is to do it all ourselves, to be the leader of the pack. Yet St. Barnabas, who was in the position to be the main attraction in the church at Antioch, "was a good man" (Acts 11:24). "Filled with the Holy Spirit and faith" (Acts 11:24), Barnabas realized that he needed help for the job of teaching the fledgling Christians at Antioch.
So he went to Tarsus to look for Saul. "Looking for Saul" in a large city without modern communications was arduous and time-consuming. It could have taken days, even weeks, for Barnabas to track down Saul. Barnabas, however, knew that Saul possessed powerful gifts of the Spirit that were needed for the mission in Antioch. "Once [Barnabas] had found [Saul], he brought him back to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and instructed great numbers. It was at Antioch that the disciples were called Christians for the first time" (Acts 11:26). Out of Antioch, Barnabas and Saul were sent forth by that new church on the first Christian missionary journey (Acts 13:1-3).
Barnabas wanted life to the full (Jn 10:10) for the Christians at Antioch, and did whatever was necessary to bring that about. What about you? If someone was able to help you in your ministry or outreach, would you ask them to help you? Would you search them out at your own personal cost to beg them to help?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I decrease in any way so that You may increase in every situation (Jn 3:30).
Promise: "My sheep hear My voice...I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish." -Jn 10:27-28
Praise: By prayer vigils, St. Fidelis fortified himself to preach the Word.

"WITHOUT ANY HINDRANCE WHATEVER" (ACTS 28:31) - One Bread, One Body, 4/23/2018

"WITHOUT ANY HINDRANCE WHATEVER" (ACTS 28:31)
"Who was I to be able to hinder God?" -Acts 11:17, RNAB
St. Peter asks an excellent question: "Who was I to be able to hinder God?" It's God's plan to work through people like St. Peter and people like you and me. It's a great mystery that God, Who is all-powerful, would put Himself in such a position that we humans have the capability to hinder Him!
Peter's question should also be on our lips as well. How many times and ways have we been able to hinder God in His work on earth? As the leader of this One Bread, One Body ministry, I am in a position to be able to hinder some of God's work through this book, and, sad to say, I have hindered God occasionally. Yet He continues to use this booklet fruitfully both because of me and despite me. I often imagine what God could do with this booklet if I never hindered Him, but always helped Him, and even hastened His work (2 Pt 3:12).
Think of the work God wants to do through you. He has placed you in a unique situation on earth. No one has the same influence on your family, vocation, parish, workplace, school, etc. as you have. The Lord has special plans to accomplish His will through you. You can hinder his work, help it, or hasten it. God can work all things to the good despite you (Rm 8:28), but His plan is to work through You because of your loving obedience and joyful service (see Heb 11:40). His will be done (Mt 6:10).
Prayer: Father, may I never be an obstacle to You. Use me to bear abundant and lasting fruit for You (Jn 15:5).
Promise: "I came that they might have life and have it to the full." -Jn 10:10
Praise: St. George, known for his combat against evil, has influenced both the Eastern and Western Churches since the Fourth Century.

FILL UP
"Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke up." -Acts 4:8
At the first Christian Pentecost, "all were filled with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:4). After Peter and John were released from prison, the first Christian community gathered to pray, and "the place where they were gathered shook as they prayed. They were filled with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 4:31). Stephen, the first deacon and the first martyr, was "a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit" (Acts 6:5). Barnabas "was a good man filled with the Holy Spirit and faith" (Acts 11:24). The Lord commands us: "Be filled with the Spirit" (Eph 5:18).
We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit because we may have:
* rationed our reception of the Spirit due to sin, fear, or ignorance (cf Jn 3:34),
* quenched (1 Thes 5:19) or grieved the Spirit (Eph 4:30) through sin and selfishness, or
* had our capacity to receive the Spirit enlarged by the Spirit working in us. Thus, we have more room to receive the Spirit in greater ways, for the Spirit has changed us from petty, narrow, self-centered people to big-hearted, great-souled men and women of God with kingdom-vision.
Consequently, "receive the Holy Spirit" in fullness (Jn 20:22). "Stir into flame the gift of God" that you have received. "The Spirit God has given us is no cowardly spirit, but rather One That makes us strong, loving, and wise" (2 Tm 1:6, 7). Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, may I never limit the Spirit's presence and power in my life.
Promise: "See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God! Yet that is what we are." -1 Jn 3:1
Praise: Praise our risen, eucharistic Lord and Savior! Glory, power, and might be to Him forever and ever.

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW...
"Many came to believe in the Lord." -Acts 9:42
We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). Therefore, we must have faith. Moreover, the Lord wants us to have great and growing faith (see Mt 15:27ff). Consequently, we should pray: Lord, "increase our faith" (Lk 17:5) and "I have faith; help my lack of faith" (Mk 9:24, NJB).
Jesus so much wants our faith to grow that he challenges us and may even shake our faith (Jn 6:61). To deepen our faith, He will use sickness, healing, death, miracles (see Acts 9:33-42), sorrows, joys, our vocations, work, etc. When Jesus comes again, will He find faith on this earth? (Lk 18:8) Jesus is doing everything possible to make sure that faith will be abounding when He returns.
Therefore, pray for greater faith. Learn and live God's Word, for "faith comes through hearing, and hearing by God's word" (Rm 10:17, our transl). Finally, be willing to suffer for your faith. In this way your faith will deepen (see 1 Pt 1:6-7). What the world needs is men and women of great faith!
Prayer: Father, give me faith to move mountain ranges (see Mt 17:20).
Promise: "We have come to believe; we are convinced that You are God's Holy One." -Jn 6:69
Praise: Archbishop St. Anselm stood up to the king for what he believed in, and the king eventually gave in to him. Anselm is famous for his devotion to the Blessed Mother.

I BELIEVE IN THE GREAT MYSTERY
"Let Me solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you." -John 6:53
When we receive Holy Communion, we eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus. This is a great mystery. Like the Jews of Jesus' day, we cannot understand how He can "give us His flesh to eat" (Jn 6:52). Nevertheless, we believe Jesus' revelation of the Eucharist because:
* The Lord has given us the gift of faith.
* It is clear that Jesus meant to be taken literally when He said: "This is My Body" and "This is My Blood" (Mt 26:26-28).
* Jesus is the Truth (Jn 14:6).
* Jesus is the all-powerful God, as evidenced by His Resurrection from the dead.
* The early Church Fathers clearly taught that we literally receive Jesus' Body and Blood in Holy Communion.
* The Church, which is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15), has clearly and universally taught that in Holy Communion we receive "the body and blood...soul and divinity" of Jesus (see Catechism, 1374).
Therefore, let us center our life on our eucharistic Lord. Let us live for Mass and eucharistic worship. Let us die for our eucharistic Lord, if we are so privileged. "Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore. O make us love Thee more and more."
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to guide me to the truth of the Eucharist (see Jn 16:13).
Promise: "Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight. He got up and was baptized, and his strength returned to him after he had taken food." -Acts 9:18-19
Praise: Jacob offers his suffering up to Jesus and he feels blessed peace.

FULL-PHIL-MENT
"The Spirit said to Philip, 'Go and catch up with that carriage.' Philip ran ahead and heard the man reading the prophet Isaiah. He said to him, 'Do you really grasp what you are reading?' 'How can I,' the man replied, 'unless someone explains it to me?' " -Acts 8:29-31
Before we recognize the risen Christ, we need our hearts to burn as the Scriptures are interpreted for us (Lk 24:32). Jesus interprets the Scriptures for us not only by calling us to read the Bible but also by sending into our lives people like the deacon Philip to explain the Bible (see Acts 8:31). No matter how intelligent and educated we may be, we cannot understand well some major revelations in the Scriptures, for the Lord hides things from the learned and the clever (Lk 10:21). The Lord has set up His Body, the Church, so that even the most learned will need the less learned in order to sufficiently understand the Scriptures (see 1 Cor 12:20-21; see also Acts 18:24-28). Therefore, we need:
* the Church,
* Christian community, and
* humility and docility.
The Lord has graciously sent many Philips into my life in order to make me a Philip for you so that you will be Philips for others. "The things which you have heard from me through many witnesses you must hand on to trustworthy men who will be able to teach others" (2 Tm 2:2). We need each other and are needed by others to understand the Scriptures and meet the risen Christ. Listen to the Philips; be a Philip.
Prayer: Father, teach me in any way and through anyone.
Promise: "They shall all be taught by God." -Jn 6:45
Praise: It took Dennis sixty years, but he finally acknowledged Jesus as Lord.

HIS BODY
"It is the will of Him Who sent Me that I should lose nothing of what He has given Me." -John 6:39
Creation, the human body, and the Body of Christ, the Church, are ecological. They are composed of many parts which inter-relate in very intricate ways. Therefore, "if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members share its joy" (1 Cor 12:26).
The Lord is constantly gracing the Church so that it may be whole, that is, with its ecological harmony complete and intact. However, the devil tries to destroy or at least diminish the Church by tempting us to drop out or cut off parts of the Church's life. In today's first eucharistic reading, we read about the apostles, house-churches, the preaching of God's Word, miracles, deliverances, healings, and joy in the Spirit (Acts 8:1ff). These elements and many more must be included and properly interrelated in the life of the Church, or the Church is warped. For example, without submission to the authority of the apostles' successors, that is, the bishops, house-churches tend to divide rather than build up the Church. Nevertheless, without the community life of the house-church, the Church's evangelistic zeal usually wanes, and miracles, deliverances, and healings seem to be things of the past. We need the whole Church rightly united in its many elements for a healthy, strong Church which the Lord will use to transform the world.
Prayer: Father, may I love the Church and, like Jesus, lay down my life for her (Eph 5:25).
Promise: "Indeed, this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day." -Jn 6:40
Praise: James, once a Christmas and Easter Communicant, came alive in the Lord Jesus and is now a daily Communicant.

ARE YOU HUNGRY FOR GOD'S FOOD?
"God's bread comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." -John 6:33
The Israelites were stuck in the desert without food. In His mercy, God sent heavenly bread, which the Israelites called manna, to feed His people for forty years until they could eat of the produce of the promised land. The manna, Jesus explained, is a foreshadowing of what God the Father was doing through Jesus. Jesus was sent from heaven to give life to the world (Jn 6:33). Jesus taught the Israelites that He was the Bread of Life (Jn 6:35), that the Father sent Him to feed His people and thereby give them life in this world until they join the eternal banquet in the heavenly promised land.
The Israelites needed to eat the manna in the desert or else starve to death. However, most of us will not starve today if we don't receive the Eucharist - or so we think. Let us place ourselves amid the Israelites in the desert. Jesus bluntly states that if we don't eat the heavenly manna, the Eucharist, we have no life in us (Jn 6:53). Be as hungry for the Eucharist as if you were starving in the desert.
Prayer: Father, change my desires so I only want to eat according to Your menu.
Promise: "I Myself am the Bread of Life." -Jn 6:35
Praise: Many saints' lives were sustained by eating only the Holy Eucharist.
(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.) (On June 22-24, we offer a retreat, "Forty Hours Devotion and Family Campout". This is followed by a "Family Vacation with the Lord" on June 25-29. Both events are being held at the Paul Jansen Discipleship Center in Adams County, Ohio. PEACE ON A ROLLER COASTER
"Throughout, Stephen's face seemed like that of an angel." -Acts 6:15
As the early Church received grace after grace, it received suffering after suffering. The first people to receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost were falsely accused of being drunk (Acts 2:13). They were not stopped by this injustice, and three thousand were baptized that day (Acts 2:41). After Peter and John healed the man born lame, they led thousands more to Christ (Acts 4:4). Then the Church suffered the arrest of Peter and John (Acts 4:3). After they were released, "through the hands of the apostles, many signs and wonders occurred among the people" (Acts 5:12). Next, all the apostles suffered by being arrested, threatened, and beaten (Acts 5:40). "As the number of disciples grew," there was a serious disagreement between the Jewish Christians and the Gentile Christians (Acts 6:1ff). The first deacons dealt with that problem. After this series of sufferings, the number of the disciples "enormously increased" (Acts 6:7). The Church's next suffering was the martyrdom of Stephen (Acts 7:60).
Luke's insight into the attitude of the Church towards all these sufferings may be expressed when he commented: "Throughout, Stephen's face seemed like that of an angel" (Acts 6:15). In other words, "the Church was at peace" (Acts 9:31). The first word the risen Christ said and says is: "Peace" (Mt 28:9; Jn 20:19, 21).
Prayer: Father, give me the peace "beyond all understanding" (Phil 4:7).
Promise: "This is the work of God: have faith in the One Whom He sent." -Jn 6:29
Praise: Sarah was diagnosed with cancer three times and she prayed in surrender to Jesus. Each time the cancer disappeared.

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday of Easter
April 15th Third Sunday of Easter
Jesus, Easter and Divine Mercy Sundays have passed, and now we are back to the daily ways
of life.
But Jesus, in You there isn't any ordinary ways of life.
We are called to be new creations, we are called to be on fire with love for You and
graced to help others.
Jesus, never let us feel ordinary, but let us feel as new vessals of love, joy and peace.
Lord, let us spread Your love to others, by how we live.
Lord, let us draw others to You by our examples of love, joy and peace.
Jesus, remind us that we are pilgrims on a journey through life that is leading us to Your
heavenly home.
Let us not be so concerned and worried, about the pressures of life, but, see Your love
and help in all situations.
Thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday MATTER OF FACT
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/15/2018
"In their panic and fright they thought they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, 'Why are you
disturbed? Why do such ideas cross your mind?' " -Luke 24:37-38
Jesus is risen! This proves Jesus is God. This means we should live no longer for ourselves but
for Him (2 Cor 5:15). Jesus' Resurrection and divinity mean that everything Jesus said is true,
including His promise to raise His disciples from the dead. The fact that Jesus intends to raise
us from the dead has mammoth ramifications for us - not only after our deaths, but also in our
daily lives. We need no longer be slaves through the fear of death (Heb 2:15). We can live
radically free and unselfish lives of love.
However, for us to receive the astounding benefits of the Resurrection, we must believe in Jesus
as the Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25). We must not think of Jesus as a ghost (Lk 24:37) or
of His Resurrection as unreal, merely symbolic, or mythical. The Resurrection is not a story; it
is an objective, historical fact (Catechism, 639, 643, 645, 647). Through the Scriptures and the
breaking of the bread, that is, the Eucharist (Lk 24:30-32, 45), the Holy Spirit will give us
the faith to open our eyes to the reality of the risen Christ (see Jn 20:22). Then we will spend
our lives as witnesses for the risen Christ (Acts 3:15).
Prayer: Father, deepen my faith in the risen Christ so that I would deserve to be persecuted.
Promise: "If anyone should sin, we have, in the presence of the Father, Jesus Christ, an
Intercessor Who is just. He is an Offering for our sins, and not for our sins only, but for
those of the whole world." -1 Jn 2:1-2
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, Whose love and mercy has conquered both sin and sinner! "His
mercy endures forever" (Ps 136:1).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
FAKE NEWS, TRUTH, AND PEACE
"GOD'S PLAN"
Communication is part of God's plan for us and an essential way to experience fellowship. Made
in the image and likeness of our Creator, we are able to express and share all that is true,
good, and beautiful. We are able to describe our own experiences and the world around us, and
thus to create historical memory and understanding of events. But when we yield to our own
pride and selfishness, we can also distort the way we use our ability to communicate.
FAKE NEWS IS GROWING
... We are witnessing the spread of what has come to be known as "fake news". This calls for
reflection, which is why I have decided to return in this ... Message to the issue of truth,
which was raised time and time again by my predecessors...
REDISCOVER DIGNITY
... I would like to contribute to our shared commitment to stemming the spread of fake news and
to rediscovering the dignity of journalism and the personal responsibility of journalists to
communicate the truth.

MATTER OF FACT - One Bread, One Body, 4/15/2018

MATTER OF FACT
"In their panic and fright they thought they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, 'Why are you disturbed? Why do such ideas cross your mind?' " -Luke 24:37-38
Jesus is risen! This proves Jesus is God. This means we should live no longer for ourselves but for Him (2 Cor 5:15). Jesus' Resurrection and divinity mean that everything Jesus said is true, including His promise to raise His disciples from the dead. The fact that Jesus intends to raise us from the dead has mammoth ramifications for us - not only after our deaths, but also in our daily lives. We need no longer be slaves through the fear of death (Heb 2:15). We can live radically free and unselfish lives of love.
However, for us to receive the astounding benefits of the Resurrection, we must believe in Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25). We must not think of Jesus as a ghost (Lk 24:37) or of His Resurrection as unreal, merely symbolic, or mythical. The Resurrection is not a story; it is an objective, historical fact (Catechism, 639, 643, 645, 647). Through the Scriptures and the breaking of the bread, that is, the Eucharist (Lk 24:30-32, 45), the Holy Spirit will give us the faith to open our eyes to the reality of the risen Christ (see Jn 20:22). Then we will spend our lives as witnesses for the risen Christ (Acts 3:15).
Prayer: Father, deepen my faith in the risen Christ so that I would deserve to be persecuted.
Promise: "If anyone should sin, we have, in the presence of the Father, Jesus Christ, an Intercessor Who is just. He is an Offering for our sins, and not for our sins only, but for those of the whole world." -1 Jn 2:1-2
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, Whose love and mercy has conquered both sin and sinner! "His mercy endures forever" (Ps 136:1).

Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant my permission to publish "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from April 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018
