A SEASON OF PRAYER
"When you stand to pray..." -Mark 11:25
As the Blessed Virgin Mary and the early Church prayed in the upper room before the first Christian Pentecost (Acts 1:13ff), let us pray for the coming of the Kingdom of God as soon as possible to as many people and nations as possible.
Jesus remarked that there is "the necessity of praying always and not losing heart" (Lk 18:1). Therefore, pray for the grace to pray. Pray for the grace to keep praying. Pray with your spouse and family. Pray for conversions. Pray for an end to hunger, violence, and war. Pray for the full coming of a new Pentecost. Pray for priests, religious, lay single people, married couples, and families.
Pray early in the morning and into the night. Pray at work and on the street. Pray where you've never prayed before. Pray at Mass, even daily if possible. "The consummation of all is close at hand. Therefore do not be perturbed; remain calm so that you will be able to pray" (1 Pt 4:7).
Prayer: Lord, teach me how to pray always (see Lk 11:1).
Promise: "When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your faults." -Mk 11:25
Praise: St. Justin was martyred with six companions who would not renounce the Truth.

FIRE UP
"Do not grow slack but be fervent in spirit; He Whom you serve is the Lord." -Romans 12:11
When you received the Holy Spirit, the devil immediately tried to extinguish the flame (1 Thes 5:19). At the same time, the Lord stirred into an even greater flame the Spirit in your life (2 Tm 1:6). Yield to the Spirit. Put on the lampstand of your life the gifts and fruit of the Spirit (Lk 8:16). The Lord will continue to light your fire.
With Mary, go into the hill country (Lk 1:39) and give as a gift what has been given to you (Mt 10:8). The Spirit's flame will grow in you while the Zechariahs and Elizabeths in your life are filled with the Spirit and prophesy and the babies leap for joy (Lk 1:41). Your being will proclaim the greatness of the Lord and find joy in God your Savior (Lk 1:46-47).
Let Mother Mary help you trust that the Lord's words to you will be fulfilled (Lk 1:45). "Give, and it shall be given to you. Good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will they pour into the fold of your garment. For the measure you measure with will be measured back to you" (Lk 6:38). It is in giving the Spirit that we receive.
Prayer: Father, give the Holy Spirit to me and through me. Mary, pray for me.
Promise: "He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in His love, He will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals." -Zep 3:17-18
Praise: Mary, willing to receive God's Gift to mankind, was willing to share with her needy cousin. Her kindness to Elizabeth helped release the power of the Holy Spirit into the world.

THE SEARCH FOR TRUE LOVE
"By obedience to the truth you have purified yourselves for a genuine love." -1 Peter 1:22
We all want "genuine love," true love, love that will last forever. Yet we all find that what we thought was love often proves not to be the real thing. Human beings are deceived about love probably more than about any other aspect of life.
We can have genuine, true love only in Christ, Who is Love (see 1 Jn 4:16). We are prepared to give true love by being purified, especially in the context of obeying the Lord in being true, that is, faithful to Him and the people He has put into our lives. True love is based on countless true sacrifices, true conversations, true promises, true repentances, true forgivenesses, etc. When we obey the Lord and choose to be true to Him and others no matter what it costs, our lives change. Selfishness, pride, lust, and unforgiveness are removed from our lives. We are purified. After so many acts of truth, we eventually live in a state of true love. We receive without obstacles the constant, deep, true love of the Lord for us, and we let that love flow through us constantly. We live in receiving and giving true love.
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit so that I will "do the truth in love" (Eph 4:15, our transl).
Promise: "The Son of Man has not come to be served but to serve - to give His life in ransom for the many." -Mk 10:45
Praise: Looking upon a crucifix, George found true love at the foot of the cross and wept tears of joy.
(In July, we offer two retreats on St. Paul's letters. The retreat studying the "Letter to the Ephesians" is held on July 6-8, and the retreat studying the "Letters to Timothy" is held on July 13-15. PRIVILEGED TO SUFFER
"Peter was moved to say to Him, 'We have put aside everything to follow You!' " -Mark 10:28
Like Peter, we are moved by selfishness, pride, and insecurity to tell the Lord about the sacrifices we've made to follow Him. We hope the Lord will "pat us on the back" and reward us. The Lord is willing to talk about the subject of sacrifice. However, He may bring up sacrifices we haven't made. This gives the impression that we have not reached the pinnacle of sacrifice but have barely begun to sacrifice. Next, the Lord may bring up the subject of being persecuted for Him and the Gospel (see Mk 10:30). This is not the way we were hoping the conversation would go. Finally, the Lord mentions that the first will come last (Mk 10:31). Were we trying to be first when we brought up our sacrifices for the Lord? Will we be last?
We are privileged to have been chosen by the Lord to sacrifice our lives for Him. The Lord owes us nothing. We owe Him everything. One day in His courts is better "than a thousand elsewhere" (Ps 84:11). Thank the Lord forever for letting us talk to Him and walk with Him - even to the cross.
Prayer: Father, make me know the privilege of suffering for You (Phil 1:29).
Promise: "Become holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct, after the likeness of the Holy One Who called you." -1 Pt 1:15
Praise: Fr. Jerry frequently gave away earthly treasures so as to ensure that he never held onto material goods too tightly.

ALL OR NOTHING
"A man came running up, knelt down before Him and asked, 'Good Teacher, what must I do to share in everlasting life?' " -Mark 10:17
The young rich man was brought up by good God-fearing parents. He had kept all the commandments from his youth (Mk 10:20). He only needed to do one more thing. But he had to do that, or he would never enter God's kingdom. "Jesus looked at him with love and told him, 'There is one thing more you must do. Go and sell what you have and give to the poor; you will then have treasure in heaven. After that, come and follow Me.' At these words the man's face fell. He went away sad, for he had many possessions" (Mk 10:21-22).
The young man apparently missed out on God's kingdom although he was so good and did everything but one thing. His only sin was that he wouldn't give everything. The disciples "were completely overwhelmed at this, and exclaimed to one another, 'Then who can be saved?' " (Mk 10:26)
Yes, the Christian life is giving everything; 99% won't do. It costs everything to buy the precious pearl of God's kingdom (Mt 13:46). The first and most basic commandment is: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind" (Lk 10:27).
The crucified Jesus gave all. Can we give any less?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for taking all of me.
Promise: "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, He Who in His great mercy gave us new birth." -1 Pt 1:3
Praise: Andrew gave up his job and his girlfriend to answer God's call to the priesthood.

PM eNewsletter Trinity Sunday
May 27th Holy Trinity
Jesus, the Trinity is a mystery that we just have to believe.
Give us the grace to just believe and give the triune God praise and glory.
Lord, let us be amazed that the father loves us so much that He sent His only begotten son,
that we may be freed from the effects of sin, and so attain the right to be called children of
the triune God.
Thank You, father, son and Holy spirit for Your love and grace.
Thank You for all the many ways You show us that love, and thank You for using us to love
others.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

As Christians, we not only believe in Three Persons in one God, but are baptized into, immersed into
these Three Persons (Mt 28:19). When we wake up in the morning, the first word on our lips is in
praise of the name of Jesus. Because Jesus is the only Way to the Father (Jn 14:6), we soon are
thanking the Father for giving us another day, providing breakfast for us, and creating us. Because
the Father and Jesus give the Holy Spirit (Jn 15:26), before long the Spirit cries out in our hearts
"Abba," that is, "Father," (Rm 8:15) and "Jesus is Lord" (1 Cor 12:3). We pray to the Father through
the Son and in the Spirit. We worship the Father and the Son in Spirit and truth (Jn 4:24). As
Christians, we live each day in a crossfire of Trinitarian love.
The Father speaks the eternal Word, Who is Jesus (Jn 1:1, 14), Whose words are Spirit and life
(Jn 6:63). And we welcome this Word in our hearts (Jas 1:21). The Father speaks the Truth; Jesus is
the Truth (Jn 14:6); "the Spirit is Truth" (1 Jn 5:6). And we live and speak the truth in love
(Eph 4:15). God is Love (1 Jn 4:16). The Father and the Son eternally love Each Other, and the
eternal Fruit of this love is the Spirit. We live in this love (Jn 15:10). We live in the Trinity
and the Trinity in us (see Jn 6:56; 14:17; 14:23). To us Christians, life means the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit (see Phil 1:21).
Prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I give my life to You. I live for, in, through, and with You alone.
Promise: "Know that I am with you always, until the end of the world!" -Mt 28:20
Praise: Praise the Triune God - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit caught in an eternal triangle of love!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
A PATH OF HOLINESS
Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in a path of holiness. Let everything be open to God; turn
to Him in every situation. Do not be dismayed, for the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to do
this ... In the Church, holy but made up of sinners, you will find everything you need to grow
towards holiness. The Lord has bestowed on the Church the gifts of scripture, the sacraments, holy
places, living communities, the witness of the saints and a multifaceted beauty that proceeds from
God's love ... (15)
YOUR MISSION
A Christian cannot think of his or her mission on earth without seeing it as a path of holiness, for
"this is the will of God, your sanctification" (1 Thess 4:3). Each saint is a mission, planned by
the Father to reflect and embody, at a specific moment in history, a certain aspect of the Gospel.(19)
JESUS IS THE KEY
That mission has its fullest meaning in Christ, and can only be understood through Him. At its core,
holiness is experiencing, in union with Christ, the mysteries of His life. (20)

A THREE-DIMENSIONAL LIFE
"Make disciples of all the nations. Baptize them in the name 'of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.' " -Matthew 28:19
As Christians, we not only believe in Three Persons in one God, but are baptized into, immersed into these Three Persons (Mt 28:19). When we wake up in the morning, the first word on our lips is in praise of the name of Jesus. Because Jesus is the only Way to the Father (Jn 14:6), we soon are thanking the Father for giving us another day, providing breakfast for us, and creating us. Because the Father and Jesus give the Holy Spirit (Jn 15:26), before long the Spirit cries out in our hearts "Abba," that is, "Father," (Rm 8:15) and "Jesus is Lord" (1 Cor 12:3). We pray to the Father through the Son and in the Spirit. We worship the Father and the Son in Spirit and truth (Jn 4:24). As Christians, we live each day in a crossfire of Trinitarian love.
The Father speaks the eternal Word, Who is Jesus (Jn 1:1, 14), Whose words are Spirit and life (Jn 6:63). And we welcome this Word in our hearts (Jas 1:21). The Father speaks the Truth; Jesus is the Truth (Jn 14:6); "the Spirit is Truth" (1 Jn 5:6). And we live and speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15). God is Love (1 Jn 4:16). The Father and the Son eternally love Each Other, and the eternal Fruit of this love is the Spirit. We live in this love (Jn 15:10). We live in the Trinity and the Trinity in us (see Jn 6:56; 14:17; 14:23). To us Christians, life means the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (see Phil 1:21).

We live in the Trinity and the Trinity in us (see Jn 6:56; 14:17; 14:23). To us Christians, life means the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (see Phil 1:21).

I WILL PRAY FOR YOU
"He must pray." -James 5:13
Many years ago today I was ordained a priest. Because of God's grace and mercy and because of your love and prayers, my priesthood has been greatly blessed beyond anything I could have ever imagined (see Eph 3:20). Therefore, I thank the Lord and "sing a hymn of praise" (Jas 5:13). I also thank you for countless acts of love and especially for your prayers.
I pray for all those who read One Bread, One Body, although I don't personally know many of you. Even if you don't know me, I hope that many of you pray for me, for "the fervent petition of a holy man is powerful indeed" (Jas 5:16). Only God knows how important are our prayers for each other.
St. Paul prayed constantly for the churches he founded, led, and served (e.g. Phil 1:4). He asked others to pray for him. For example, he said: "I beg you, brothers, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of the Spirit, join me in the struggle by your prayers to God on my behalf" (Rm 15:30). He told St. Timothy: "First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for all men" (1 Tm 2:1).
Jesus continues to question His disciples: "Could you not watch one hour with Me?" (see Mt 26:40) He calls us to pray always, not lose heart (Lk 18:1), and be men and women of prayer. May our love for Christ impel us (see 2 Cor 5:14) to stay in constant communication with the Father through Jesus and in the Spirit. Prayer is our lifeline, a privilege, our hope, and our joy. Pray!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to pray in my weakness (Rm 8:26).
Promise: "Then [Jesus] embraced them and blessed them, placing His hands on them." -Mk 10:16
Praise: St. Philip emphasized humility both for himself and others. He was led by his confessor to become a priest at age thirty-five.

SUFFER IN SILENCE
"Do not grumble against one another, my brothers, lest you be condemned." -James 5:9
When we're suffering, we feel compelled to grumble, complain, blame, or swear (Jas 5:12). However, we should suffer in silence.
Jesus is our Model. Did He ever grumble against the apostles? Did He complain at the agony in the garden? Did He throw the first stone (Jn 8:7) or swear in court to His innocence? (Mt 27:12) Jesus suffered in silence.
After suffering much, Job came to the same conclusion: "I put my hand over my mouth. Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again; though twice, I will do so no more" (Job 40:4-5).
Silent suffering is not an act of despair but of faith. We don't have to complain to get God's attention; we already have it. Our "silence is golden" because the Lord's love is everlasting. He'll never let us down. We're not suffering alone. We "share in His sufferings by being formed into the pattern of His death" (Phil 3:10). It's our "special privilege to take Christ's part - not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for Him" (Phil 1:29).
When we finally break our silence, it should either be in repentance or thanksgiving. If we have caused our suffering through our sins, we should repent. If we are suffering innocently and redemptively, we should thank and praise the Lord. "For then God's Spirit in Its glory has come to rest on you" (1 Pt 4:14).
Prayer: Jesus, may I know how to suffer (Phil 3:10).
Promise: "They are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore let no man separate what God has joined." -Mk 10:8-9
Praise: Even as a teenager, St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi was recognized for her Christ-like holiness. She was a Sixteenth Century nun who offered her life of suffering for the sins of others.

CUT IT OUT!
"If your hand is your difficulty, cut it off!" -Mark 9:43
"If your foot is your undoing, cut it off!" -Mark 9:45
"If your eye is your downfall, tear it out!" -Mark 9:47
Jesus did not mean for us to literally maim ourselves, but He exaggerated to drive home the point that we are to resist sin even to the point of allowing our own blood to be shed (Heb 12:4). Moreover, Jesus may have been revealing to us something about human nature: in some areas of each person's life, one must be careful not to overindulge but to abstain. This is the great insight of the Twelve Step Programs.
For some, one drink is too many. Maybe you don't have a problem with drinking, but you can be in trouble if you have a TV, begin to gamble, eat one candy bar, drink one cup of coffee, go into a store with a credit card, access the Internet, etc. We will never be free if we don't come out of the denial that certain things in our lives must be completely cut off. The Lord could grace us to control our use of these things, but it seems that instead He has decided to call us to abstain in certain areas.
Know your calls to abstain, cut out what God wants out, and be free. It's better to abstain than to remain a slave. It's better to abstain than to lose your soul (Mt 5:29).
Prayer: Jesus, You alone can free me (Jn 8:36). I accept You as Lord and Liberator.
Promise: "The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts." -Jas 5:4
Praise: Joe cut up his credit cards. He put his faith and trust in the Holy Spirit's gift of self-control and God's providence (Phil 4:19).

LIVING IN THE PRESENT
"You have no idea what kind of life will be yours tomorrow." -James 4:14
We think we know what we're doing today or will do tomorrow or even next year. However, the truth is: "You have no idea what kind of life will be yours tomorrow." We think we're in control of our lives but, if we're not in control of our deaths, how can we be in control of our lives? We "are a vapor that appears briefly and vanishes" (Jas 4:14). It is unrealistic, ignorant, and arrogant to think that we can do what we want, when we want (Jas 4:16).
Our reaction to the tenuousness of our lives can be fear and insecurity. Alternatively, our reaction can be a dedicated zeal to do now what the Lord calls us to do. We don't know how long we will be on this earth. Even if we have a few more days or years, we may not have the opportunities to do certain things. Consequently, if the Lord wants something done now, do it now. "When a man knows the right thing to do and does not do it, he sins" (Jas 4:17). "Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2) If we're not living fully in the present, we are not living in God's will. We can be fully present to God only by living in the present. His lordship is now.
Prayer: Father, may this minute of my life be pleasing in Your sight.
Promise: "Yet in no way can a man redeem himself, or pay his own ransom to God." -Ps 49:8
Praise: When facing difficulties, Edward's only prayer is "Thy will be done" and he is at peace.

A CLEAN WEEP
"Begin to lament, to mourn, and to weep." -James 4:9
"There is an appointed time for everything" (Eccl 3:1), including a "time to weep" (Eccl 3:4). Because of pandemic, unrepented sin, now is the time to weep. Let our "laughter be turned into mourning" (Jas 4:9). The Lord through His Church will command us again: "Yet even now, says the Lord, return to Me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning" (Jl 2:12). There can be hope in tears, for "sorrow for God's sake produces a repentance without regrets, leading to salvation, whereas worldly sorrow brings death" (2 Cor 7:10). "Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing" (Ps 126:5), for "there will likewise be more joy in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need to repent" (Lk 15:7).
Today, let us make acts of contrition, that is, acts of sorrow and hatred for sin. There can be hope in weeping. Weep as Jesus wept (see Lk 19:41).
Prayer: Father, may I see sin as You do.
Promise: "Whoever welcomes a child such as this for My sake welcomes Me." -Mk 9:37
Praise: St. Rita lost her husband and sons to death. Abandoning her life to Jesus, she served Him as a religious sister.

WANTING STRONGER FAITH?
"I do believe! Help my lack of faith!" -Mark 9:24, our transl.
Jesus expected His disciples and the crowd to have faith so as to expel demons (see Mk 9:19). Jesus invited the father of a possessed son to have greater faith (see Mk 9:23). Jesus connects faith with prayer (Mk 9:29).
Will you pray to have a greater faith? (see Lk 17:5) How much will you pray for greater faith? Will you pray a Holy Hour for nine days to obtain greater faith? How much do you want a greater faith?
To grow in faith, will you persevere in studying and reading the teachings of the Church, especially the Bible? "Faith comes through hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rm 10:17, our translation).
The more we love Jesus, the more we want to have a deeper faith in Him. Motivated by love, we are willing even to suffer when necessary to grow in faith (see 1 Pt 1:6ff).
Pray for and in faith. Feed your faith. Suffer for greater faith. We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). "When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?" (Lk 18:8, RSV-CE)
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to me that my faith in You will ever increase.
Promise: "The harvest of justice is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace." -Jas 3:18
Praise: St. Christopher gave absolutions to his executioners before he was martyred.
(Feed your faith by reading the Bible every day. We have several series to help you. "Overview of the Bible" is six CDs starting with CD 10 A-1. "15 Minute Bible Teaching - New Testament" is forty CDs with detailed teaching as to chapter and verse starting with CD 700. "An Introduction to Each Book of the Bible" is thirty-two CDs starting with CD 21-1.)

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday "ONE SPIRIT" (EPH 4:4)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=5/20/2018
"Receive the Holy Spirit." -John 20:22
Happy Pentecost! Happy birthday of the Church! Come, Holy Spirit! On this "last and greatest
day of the festival," Jesus continues to cry out: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me; let
him drink who believes in Me. Scripture has it: 'From within Him rivers of living water shall
flow.' (Here He was referring to the Spirit)" (Jn 7:37-39).
The Holy Spirit will come to us and through us renew the face of the earth (Ps 104:30). The
Spirit will make us witnesses for the risen Christ (see Acts 2:32). He will give us the words
to say (Mt 10:19-20), and people of all nations will believe that Jesus is Lord
(see 1 Cor 12:3). Through faith, they will accept the Lord's gift of salvation, and the world
will be renewed.
The renewal of the earth, the acceptance of salvation, and our witnessing for Jesus depend to
a large extent on Christians being united. Jesus is praying even now that we would be one as
He and the Father are one so that the world will believe the Father sent Him (Jn 17:21). Our
unity is the basis for faith, which is the basis for salvation (Eph 2:8), which is the basis
for renewal. The Spirit will never renew the world unless He unites us.
Therefore, "it was in one Spirit that all of us...were baptized into one body" (1 Cor 12:13).
"Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin" (Eph 4:3). May
peoples of all nations, denominations, and divisions repent, forgive and understand each other,
and be one in the Spirit. Then all will be saved (1 Tm 2:4), and the world renewed. Come, Holy
Spirit of unity!
Prayer: Father, in Jesus' name, stir into flame the gift of the Spirit (2 Tm 1:6-7). Renew my
Baptism and Confirmation.
Promise: "All were filled with the Holy Spirit." -Acts 2:4
Praise: Praise Jesus, Who died, rose, and ascended so that we could be filled with the Holy Spirit! Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
CHOSEN BY THE LORD
...The Lord has chosen each one of us "to be holy and blameless before Him in love" (Eph 1:4). (2)
CONSTANT ADVANCE
The Letter to the Hebrews ... invites us to realize that "a great cloud of witnesses" (12:1) impels
us to advance constantly towards the goal. These witnesses may include our own mothers, grandmothers
or other loved ones (cf. 2 Tim 1:5). Their lives may not always have been perfect, yet even amid
their faults and failings they kept moving forward and proved pleasing to the Lord. (3)
LIVES OF LOVE
We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we
do, wherever we find ourselves. (14)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

"ONE SPIRIT" (EPH 4:4)
"Receive the Holy Spirit." -John 20:22
Happy Pentecost! Happy birthday of the Church! Come, Holy Spirit! On this "last and greatest day of the festival," Jesus continues to cry out: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me; let him drink who believes in Me. Scripture has it: 'From within Him rivers of living water shall flow.' (Here He was referring to the Spirit)" (Jn 7:37-39).
The Holy Spirit will come to us and through us renew the face of the earth (Ps 104:30). The Spirit will make us witnesses for the risen Christ (see Acts 2:32). He will give us the words to say (Mt 10:19-20), and people of all nations will believe that Jesus is Lord (see 1 Cor 12:3). Through faith, they will accept the Lord's gift of salvation, and the world will be renewed.
The renewal of the earth, the acceptance of salvation, and our witnessing for Jesus depend to a large extent on Christians being united. Jesus is praying even now that we would be one as He and the Father are one so that the world will believe the Father sent Him (Jn 17:21). Our unity is the basis for faith, which is the basis for salvation (Eph 2:8), which is the basis for renewal. The Spirit will never renew the world unless He unites us.
Therefore, "it was in one Spirit that all of us...were baptized into one body" (1 Cor 12:13). "Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin" (Eph 4:3). May peoples of all nations, denominations, and divisions repent, forgive and understand each other, and be one in the Spirit. Then all will be saved (1 Tm 2:4), and the world renewed. Come, Holy Spirit of unity!
Prayer: Father, in Jesus' name, stir into flame the gift of the Spirit (2 Tm 1:6-7). Renew my Baptism and Confirmation.
Promise: "All were filled with the Holy Spirit." -Acts 2:4
Praise: Praise Jesus, Who died, rose, and ascended so that we could be filled with the Holy Spirit! Alleluia!

THE SPIRIT OF INFINITY - One Bread, One Body, 5/19/2018
Pentecost Novena Day 9 - Saturday
Pray: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
V. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created,
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of Your faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read:
Acts 28:16-20, 30-31
John 21:20-25
Be silent
Pray: Father, renew my Baptism and Confirmation. Stir into flame the gifts of the Spirit in my life (see 2 Timothy 1:6-7).
On or near Pentecost, ask another Christian to lay hands on you (see Acts 19:6) and pray for you to receive the Holy Spirit. After receiving these prayers, thank the Holy Spirit for coming to you, go to Mass as often as possible, and share your faith in Jesus. Come, Holy Spirit!

THE SPIRIT OF INFINITY
"He preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ with full assurance and without any hindrance." -Acts 28:31, our transl.
Paul was under house arrest for two years in Rome (Acts 28:16, 30). Before that, he was in prison for two additional years (Acts 24:27). Prior to that, he was in prison several other times (see 2 Cor 11:23). Trial, distress, persecution, hunger, nakedness, danger, and the sword made it very difficult for Paul to preach the Gospel (Rm 8:35). Nevertheless, the last word of Acts of the Apostles is that Paul "preached God's kingdom with full assurance and without any hindrance" (Acts 28:31, our transl).
Jesus is God and therefore infinite. If the Apostle John had written about the many other things Jesus had done in a few short years on this earth, he doubted "there would be room enough in the entire world to hold the books to record them" (Jn 21:25). Because Jesus is infinite and because we are in Him, we are unstoppable - no matter how many human limitations we have and how great are the obstacles we face. We are unhindered because He is infinite.
We enter into the infinity and victory of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. In one Spirit we have been baptized into the one Body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13). On this last day of the Pentecost Novena, pray: "Come, infinite Spirit transcending our finitude and making us free, unhindered, and victorious."
Prayer: Father, this Pentecost, may it be apparent to all who see me that I am obviously more than a conqueror in Jesus (Rm 8:37).
Promise: "Jesus replied, 'How does that concern you? Your business is to follow Me.' " -Jn 21:22
Praise: Jesus delivered Sam from an addiction to alcohol.

REAL LOVE?
"Do you love Me?" -John 21:15, 16, 17
Simon Peter honestly believed that there was no reason to doubt that he loved Jesus. That's why "Peter was hurt because [Jesus] had asked a third time, 'Do you love Me?' " (Jn 21:17) Although Peter had denied Christ a few weeks before this encounter (see Lk 22:57ff), Peter assumed that this was no reason for Jesus to doubt Peter's love for Him. Moreover, Peter had returned to the fishing business he was working in before he met Jesus (Jn 21:3ff). Yet Peter didn't see that he was living B.C. (before Christ) and was thereby demonstrating further reason to doubt his love. Peter had met the risen Christ several times, but he was still languishing in following Jesus' commission to lead the apostles. Everyone may have noticed it - everyone but Peter.
"Do you love" Jesus? (Jn 21:15) What does your life say? Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of sin and the denial of reality which comes with sin (see Jn 16:8). Ask the Holy Spirit to purify you through obedience (1 Pt 1:22) and to produce in you an authentic love for Jesus (see Gal 5:22).
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to free me from self-deception about love and to fill me with true love.
Promise: "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all my being, bless His holy name." -Ps 103:1
Praise: Pope St. John I reconciled the Eastern and Western Church. Pope St. John I, pray for unity in the Body of Christ in our present time.

THE CROSS OF PENTECOST
"I do not pray for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that all may be one as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; I pray that they may be [one] in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me." -John 17:20-21
Throughout this Pentecost novena, we are praying to receive more deeply the Holy Spirit of unity (see Eph 4:3) by which we can be one as the Father and Jesus are One (Jn 17:21). However, unity does not mean glossing over divisions; it means surfacing and confronting them. For instance, Paul surfaced the disunity between the Pharisees and Sadducees (Acts 23:6-7). Because of this, Paul was almost torn into pieces by the rival forces (Acts 23:10). If we receive the Holy Spirit of unity, we will face disunity head on and suffer accordingly.
This presents a problem. Although we desire unity with God, in the Church, and even between enemies, we probably don't want to sacrifice our life "to gather into one all the dispersed children of God" (Jn 11:52). If we are unwilling to die for unity, we don't want to receive the Holy Spirit of unity. So Pentecost, unity, and a self-sacrificial death all go together.
We have Pentecost when our love for the Lord and for people is stronger than our selfishness and fear of death (see Sg 8:6). Love is the catalyst leading us to die to self, build unity, and receive a new Pentecost. This, in turn, will greatly deepen our love, leading to martyrdoms, a progression of Pentecosts, and Trinity-unity. Will you love enough to pray: "Come, Holy Spirit"?
Prayer: Father, I decide to love enough to be a seed which falls to the earth, dies, and bears fruit abundantly (Jn 12:24).
Promise: "That night the Lord appeared at Paul's side and said: 'Keep up your courage!' " -Acts 23:11
Praise: Receiving the Holy Spirit gave Philip the heart for street evangelization.

"YOU ARE ABOUT TO DIE" (IS 38:1)
"They were deeply distressed to hear that they would never see his face again." -Acts 20:38
St. Paul knows he is about to die. He is not concerned with himself. He had long ago repented of all sin and abandoned himself into God's loving hands. Paul is concerned that his followers remain grounded in the truth. He wants them to guard themselves and others against those savage wolves who will try to lead his flock astray with false teaching after he dies (Acts 20:28-30).
Jesus is about to die. He is not concerned with Himself, having daily abandoned Himself into His Father's loving hands. Jesus is concerned that His followers remain grounded in the truth (Jn 17:17, 19). He wants His followers to guard themselves and others (Jn 17:12, 15) against those savage wolves who will try to lead His flock astray with false teaching after He dies (Jn 10:5, 8, 12).
What would be your reaction if the Lord prophesied to you: "Put your house in order, for you are about to die" (Is 38:1). What would you be concerned about? Would your mind be focused on yourself? Or would you immediately be occupied with your loved ones and those to whom you have ministered the Good News of Jesus by word and deed? Would you be concerned that they would remain in the truth and be able to stand strong in faith?
Put your life immediately in the hands of God. Repent! Ask Jesus to give you a shepherd's heart (1 Pt 5:2). Feed God's sheep (Jn 21:17) and lead them to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may our hearts be occupied with what pleases Jesus rather than pleasing ourselves (Phil 2:19-21).
Promise: "He gives power and strength to His people." -Ps 68:36
Praise: Sue's faith on her death bed witnessed to her whole family.
