THE GOOD NEWS, NOT THE BAD NEWS
"Jesus disregarded the report that had been brought." -Mark 5:36
"He put them all out." -Mark 5:40
Jesus refused to listen to humanity's interpretation of an event. He put the naysayers out of the room. He disregarded the news that was reported of a girl's death. Jesus saw beyond the externals and looked at the heart of the matter (see 1 Sm 16:7).
Like Jesus, refuse to allow the world's messengers to force-feed you with what they consider newsworthy. Rather, make the Good News your home (see Jn 8:31-32). Don't let the bad news of this world reported by the mega-media conglomerates form and shape you. Be formed and transformed by the gospel, the Good News. Then, form the world through your transformed life.
Transform the bad news into the Good News by praying the news. Jesus spent far more time listening to His Father than to the newscasters. We must do the same. Immerse yourself in the Gospels and "believe the Good News" (see Mk 1:14-15).
Prayer: Father, may I fix my eyes constantly on Jesus (Heb 3:1; 12:2).
Promise: "You changed my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness." -Ps 30:12
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, the only Way to the Father (Jn 14:6) and the One Who baptizes us in the Spirit! (Mk 1:8)

THE DAY OF "WRECKONING" - One Bread, One Body, 6/30/2018

THE DAY OF "WRECKONING"
The Lord "has torn down in His anger the fortresses of daughter Judah." -Lamentations 2:2
Jesus came to proclaim and establish the kingdom of God and bring salvation to the human race by overcoming the sin of Adam. Jesus destroyed the power of Satan and overcomes him (see 1 Jn 3:8). Satan's works cannot stand next to those of God. Anything built on a foundation based on evil must first be overturned and destroyed. Therefore, Jesus' initial work must be that of a demolition crew. First, He needs to make a total wreck of the existing structure, if it is not founded on Him. Only then will He lay a new foundation and build His kingdom.
Jesus is zealous for His house (Jn 2:17). As a carpenter, He is determined to build things the right way, and so He'll have to rip out and cut down an unstable foundation (see Lk 13:9). He clears the ground (Mt 3:10) completely and thoroughly. He will build His kingdom, and nothing will stand that opposes His work.
If anything in your life is opposed to God's kingdom, you don't have to wait for Jesus to "make a wreck" out of it. With God's grace, you can do some of the wrecking yourself to prepare the way of the Lord. Ask Jesus to show you what needs to be eliminated from your life. Let's do the wrecking ourselves so that Jesus can spend His time doing the building.
Prayer: Father, do in me whatever You must in order to do through me whatever You will.
Promise: "He expelled the spirits by a simple command and cured all who were afflicted." -Mt 8:16
Praise: The First Martyrs of Rome shed their blood for Jesus which has borne great fruit by preparing Rome to be the home of the Catholic Church.

LOVE THE CHURCH
"I will build My Church, and the jaws of death shall not prevail against it." -Matthew 16:18
Today we celebrate that Christ instituted the Church. He calls the Church His Body (e.g. Eph 1:22-23), His bride (see Eph 5:25-27), and "My Church" (Mt 16:18). The Church is the "Mystical Body of Christ" and the "new People of God" (Lumen Gentium, Vatican II, 8, 9). The Church alone is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15). She can attack the gates of hell, which cannot prevail against her (Mt 16:18).
The Church is one, acknowledging one faith, one Lord, one Baptism (Catechism, 866). "The Church is holy...the Spirit of holiness gives her life" (Catechism, 867). The Church is also catholic, that is, universal, and therefore missionary (Catechism, 868). The Church is divinely established as apostolic, founded on the apostles, including Sts. Peter and Paul (Eph 2:20; Rv 21:14). The Church is a community of believers, hierarchical and visible, governed by the pope, the successor of St. Peter, and the bishops (Catechism, 869).
It is critical to know what Jesus means by the Church, for Jesus calls us to love the Church and to lay down our lives for it, as He did (Eph 5:25). Love the Church as Jesus does (Eph 5:25).
Prayer: Father, may I imitate Jesus and give myself in service to Your Church.
Promise: "The time of my dissolution is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." -2 Tm 4:6-7
Praise: Through the Holy Spirit, Saints Peter and Paul spread the good news of Jesus throughout the known world.

"I WISH TO KNOW CHRIST" (PHIL 3:10)
"I never knew you. Out of My sight, you evildoers." -Matthew 7:23
Some of the Jews in exile in Babylon didn't know God in relationship (see 2 Kgs 24:14ff), and so they didn't change their lives as they might have had they been in a loving relationship with Him. They knew some information about God, but they didn't know Him. Because the book of the law had been "lost" in the Temple for many years (see 2 Kgs 22:8ff), many of these Jews did not even know the basic facts about God.
Learning facts about Jesus is important, but catechesis, which is making disciples and education in living the faith (Catechism, 4-5) is very much needed (Catechism, 10). Moreover, the aim of catechesis is to lead the disciple into a knowledge of Jesus that leads to a lifelong relationship of love, worship, obedience, and adoration (Catechism, 5-6).
In a sense, the Mass follows such a pattern. The Liturgy of the Word is a type of catechesis about Jesus. Then in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we receive Jesus into our bodies in the most intimate way. We come "to know Him in the breaking of bread" (Lk 24:35). Dedicate yourself to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Jesus, I don't want to even spend one more day on earth without knowing You as deeply as possible in my state of life.
Promise: "Help us, O God our Savior, because of the glory of Your name; Deliver us and pardon our sins for Your name's sake." -Ps 79:9
Praise: St. Irenaeus was martyred trying to reunite Eastern and Western Christians.

"FINDERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS"? - One Bread, One Body, 6/27/2018
Wednesday, June 27, 2018, St. Cyril of Alexandria

"FINDERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS"?
"I have found the book of the law in the temple of the Lord." -2 Kings 22:8
If we find the Word of God, it is a life-changing event. Jeremiah exclaimed: "When I found Your words, I devoured them; they became my joy and the happiness of my heart" (Jer 15:16). By finding God's Word, we do not mean finding a copy of the Bible or parts of the Bible as Hilkiah did. We mean finding God's Word from the Church and her Scriptures "not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God" (1 Thes 2:13).
Because the Lord wants us to find His Word and abide in it (Jn 8:31), the devil tries to make us disrespect, trivialize, and disobey God's Word so that we will never find it, or lose it if we have ever found it. Our secular humanistic culture of death denies and questions that there is such a thing as objective truth. Even those who believe in some objective truth sometimes say the Church and her Bible are out-of-date and need not be obeyed, declaring that we are to "think for ourselves." They say we should not rigidly maintain that God's Word is objective truth which all are responsible to obey. These diseased attitudes undermine the truth and authority of God's Word. Reject these attitudes. Joyfully cling to the freedom which comes from finding and living the truth of God's Word (see Jn 8:32).
Prayer: Father, make Your Word more precious to me than any pleasure in my life (see Ps 119:103, 127).
Promise: "You can tell a tree by its fruit." -Mt 7:20
Praise: St. Cyril fought for decades to uphold Christ's divinity against those who said He was a mere man.

THE LETTER OPENER
"Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; then he went up to the temple of the Lord, and spreading it out before Him, he prayed in the Lord's presence." -2 Kings 19:14-15
King Hezekiah received a letter from Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, threatening the total destruction of Judah if Hezekiah did not unconditionally surrender. Many of us have also received letters, faxes, e-mail, text messages, or memos containing devastating news. Some have received letters from attorneys in which their spouses have announced that they are suing for divorce. Many have received forms from their doctors in which the serious risks from operations and therapy are listed. Others have received "Dear John letters," notices that they have been fired from their jobs, "hate mail" from family members, indictments, subpoenas, threats, or bills. Sometimes the mail is so bad that it's a relief to receive junk mail.
When you get your "poison-pen letters," do what King Hezekiah did. Take your letters "to the temple of the Lord" (2 Kgs 19:14), that is, to church. Let the eucharistic Jesus "open your mail." Don't become unforgiving and bitter. Don't be depressed or fall into despair. Don't take vengeance or give in to fear. Spread your letter and your life out before the Lord. "Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you" (1 Pt 5:7). Pray in the Lord's presence (2 Kgs 19:15). Let the Lord answer your mail. Accept Him as the Lord of your letters and your life.
Prayer: Jesus, I trust You.
Promise: "Enter through the narrow gate. The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it. But how narrow is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there are who find it!" -Mt 7:13-14
Praise: Robert continues to pray for his ex-wife years after their divorce.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant my permission to publish "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from June 1, 2018 through July 31, 2018

"AVOID JUDGMENT" (MT 7:1)
"If you want to avoid judgment..." -Matthew 7:1
"If you want to avoid judgment, stop passing judgment" on others' character and motives (Mt 7:1). If we judge others' character and motives, we will have the same verdict passed on us (Mt 7:2). "If you want to avoid judgment," repent of your own sins, and then help others repent (Mt 7:5).
If we want to avoid judgment, we must forgive those who have sinned against us. Otherwise, we will not be forgiven (Mt 6:15), and we will be in no position to help others reconcile to the Lord.
In summary, to avoid coming under judgment, we must:
* not judge others' character or motives,
* repent of our sins,
* help others to reconcile with God, and
* forgive others.
By God's grace, we must do all of these things, or we risk being judged. "Avoid judgment" (Mt 7:1).
Prayer: Father, may loving and faithful obedience to You be my joy and delight.
Promise: "Then you will see clearly to take the speck from your brother's eye." -Mt 7:5
Praise: Don and Jean were so hospitable to their teenage children's friends that even now, decades later, many of those "kids" take time to visit them on holidays and special occasions.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet "Seek First the Kingdom".)

PM eNewsletter Birth of St. John the Baptist
June 24th, Birth of St. John the Baptist
This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the birth of St. John the Baptist.
He was the last of the prophets, and the greatest.
His greatness came because he saw You, and believed that You were the Lamb of God, who
came to take away the sins of the world.
Let us also believe with that same intensity as St. John did, so that we may be as
willing to live for the soul purpose of just focusing our lives on You.
Let all our work, our living, and our loving, give praise and glory to You.
Let us be prophets to all, and let us be willing to proclaim You, to all who ask "why
are you different?"
Let us truly help others come to know and believe, that You, truly are the Lamb of God.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE JOHN THE BAPTIST AWARD
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/24/2018
"[John] made his public appearance in Israel." -Luke 1:80
At a recent Mass, the priest revealed his dream during the homily. He wants to see an annual award,
called the St. John the Baptist Courage Award. He envisioned that it would be awarded to that Catholic
bishop who has most courageously spoken out for the cause of pro-life. The "trophy" would be a silver
platter, symbolizing both the courage St. John the Baptist displayed in continuously speaking out
against Herod's public adultery (Mk 6:18) and his resulting imprisonment and execution (Mk 6:28).
Such an award would be yet another encouragement for all of us, in every walk of life, to speak out
against injustice and speak up for the Lord. God tells us: "Whatever I command you, you shall speak...
Stand up and tell them all that I command you" (Jer 1:7, 17). "Do not be afraid. Go on speaking and do
not be silenced, for I am with you," says the Lord (Acts 18:9-10).
Is the Lord calling one of you to make this dream a reality?
Prayer: Father, teach me "what to say and how to speak" (Jn 12:49).
Promise: "It was to us that this message of salvation was sent forth." -Acts 13:26
Praise: Praise You, all-loving Father, risen Jesus, and consuming Holy Spirit. I worship You with
every fiber of my being. Alleluia!
Monday "AVOID JUDGMENT" (MT 7:1)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-05.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
ASK THE SPIRIT
Always ask the Spirit what Jesus expects from you at every moment of your life and in every decision
you must make, so as to discern its place in the mission you have received. Allow the Spirit to forge
in you the personal mystery that can reflect Jesus Christ in today's world. (23)
DON'T BE AFRAID
Do not be afraid of holiness. It will take away none of your energy, vitality or joy. On the contrary,
you will become what the Father had in mind when He created you, and you will be faithful to your
deepest self. To depend on God sets us free from every form of enslavement and leads us to recognize
our great dignity. (32)
AIM HIGH
Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be loved and liberated by God. Do not
be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less human, since
it is an encounter between your weakness and the power of God's grace. For in the words of Leon Bloy,
when all is said and done, "the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint." (34)

THE JOHN THE BAPTIST AWARD - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2018
Sunday, June 24, 2018, Birth of St. John the Baptizer
Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80

THE JOHN THE BAPTIST AWARD
"[John] made his public appearance in Israel." -Luke 1:80
At a recent Mass, the priest revealed his dream during the homily. He wants to see an annual award, called the St. John the Baptist Courage Award. He envisioned that it would be awarded to that Catholic bishop who has most courageously spoken out for the cause of pro-life. The "trophy" would be a silver platter, symbolizing both the courage St. John the Baptist displayed in continuously speaking out against Herod's public adultery (Mk 6:18) and his resulting imprisonment and execution (Mk 6:28).
Such an award would be yet another encouragement for all of us, in every walk of life, to speak out against injustice and speak up for the Lord. God tells us: "Whatever I command you, you shall speak...Stand up and tell them all that I command you" (Jer 1:7, 17). "Do not be afraid. Go on speaking and do not be silenced, for I am with you," says the Lord (Acts 18:9-10).
I worship You with every fiber of my being. Alleluia!
(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.) (For a related teaching on "Love," order, listen to or download our CD 58-1 or DVD 58 on our website.)

NOT A WORRY IN THE WORLD? - One Bread, One Body, 6/23/2018

NOT A WORRY IN THE WORLD?
"Stop worrying, then, over questions like, 'What are we to eat, or what are we to drink, or what are we to wear?' " -Matthew 6:31
Many people today are learning about stress management. The Lord wants to do better than that. He teaches us stress banishment. He commands us: "Do not worry about your livelihood, what you are to eat or drink or use for clothing" (Mt 6:25, 31). Jesus questions us: "Which of you by worrying can add a moment to his life-span?" (Mt 6:27) He commands us again: "Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow" (Mt 6:34).
How can we obey Jesus' commands to stop worrying?
* Serve only one master, that is, God (Mt 6:24).
* "Give yourself to God" alone (Mt 6:24).
* "Look at the birds in the sky" (Mt 6:26).
* "Learn a lesson from the way the wild flowers grow" (Mt 6:28).
* Believe in your heavenly Father (Mt 6:32).
* "Seek first His kingship over you, His way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides" (Mt 6:33).
Instead of worrying, give your life to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, give me Your "peace, which is beyond all understanding" (Phil 4:7).
Promise: "Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow. Let tomorrow take care of itself." -Mt 6:34
Praise: Mark gives generously to the poor, whether he has much or not so much.

HOW TO DEFEAT THE TYRANT - One Bread, One Body, 6/22/2018
Friday, June 22, 2018, St. Paulinus of Nola, St. John Fisher, St. Thomas More
2 Kings 11:1-4, 9-18, 20, Psalm 132:11-14, 17-18, Matthew 6:19-23

HOW TO DEFEAT THE TYRANT
"When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she began to kill off the whole royal family." -2 Kings 11:1
Athaliah, the queen mother, massacred the rest of the royal family so she could take over the kingdom of Judah. Seven years later, she was dethroned and killed. This victory of justice was achieved by God's grace through four people or groups of people:
* Jehosheba risked her life to rescue a baby, her nephew, Joash, the rightful king (2 Kgs 11:2).
* Others risked their lives daily for seven years by secretly caring for Joash (2 Kgs 11:3-4).
* Jehoiada, the priest, risked his life by leading a coup d'etat (2 Kgs 11:4).
* The captains of the temple guard risked their lives by swearing to support Jehoiada in the coup (2 Kgs 11:4).
The evil reign of Athaliah was stopped by one courageous woman, many acts of courage for seven years, priestly leadership, and the captains' faithfulness in the commitment to Jehoiada. We conquer evil by God's grace expressed in courage, leadership, and faithfulness.
That's what we need to stop the Athaliahs in our time. We can stop the worst evils if we're willing to lay down our lives and make sacrifices.
Look at Jesus crucified and victorious. Act to stop evil.
Prayer: Father, may I realize that my primary enemy is Satan (Eph 6:12). May I fight accordingly (see 2 Cor 10:4).
Promise: "Remember, where your treasure is, there your heart is also." -Mt 6:21
Praise: Both St. Paulinus and his wife entered religious life when their son died.

"THE GREATEST THING IN ALL MY LIFE IS..." - One Bread, One Body, 6/21/2018
Thursday, June 21, 2018, St. Aloysius Gonzaga
Sirach 48:1-14, Psalm 97:1-7, Matthew 6:7-15
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062118.cfm
"THE GREATEST THING IN ALL MY LIFE IS..."
"Then Elisha, filled with a twofold portion of his spirit, wrought many marvels." -Sirach 48:12
Elijah humbled Israel's economy by stopping the rain for three-and-a-half years. "Three times [he] brought down fire" (Sir 48:3). He slit the throats of several hundred false prophets (1 Kgs 18:19, 40). He "brought a dead man back to life" (Sir 48:5). He was "taken aloft in a whirlwind, in a chariot with fiery horses" (Sir 48:9). Yet these were not the greatest things Elijah did. His greatest work was to make Elisha his disciple. This led to Hazael and Jehu being anointed, who finally brought down the wicked kingdom of Ahab and Jezebel (see 1 Kgs 19:15-16, 19).
It may have been difficult for Elijah to think of discipleship, because he considered himself "the only surviving prophet of the Lord" among people who were ambivalent about their commitment to the Lord (see 1 Kgs 18:21-22). Elijah may have thought that there was no one willing to be his disciple. Nevertheless, in fact, there were seven thousand men in Israel who were committed to the Lord and opposed to the idol-worship of Baal (1 Kgs 19:18). Even so, the Lord had to whisper in Elijah's ear before he thought of discipleship.
Jesus has already whispered in our ears before His Ascension. He commanded us to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19). This may well be the greatest thing we ever do to build the Lord's kingdom.
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit so that I will make as many disciples as possible who will make as many disciples as possible.
Promise: "Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us the wrong we have done as we forgive those who wrong us." -Mt 6:11-12
Praise: St. Aloysius died at twenty-four ministering to the ill, joyfully serving victims of a severe plague. He wrote: "God in His grace and His love is showing me the path of true happiness."

OUT ON A LIMB - One Bread, One Body, 6/20/2018

OUT ON A LIMB
"Your Father Who sees what is hidden will repay you." -Matthew 6:18
We are in the middle of three weeks of reading Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. In the first ten days, He set a standard of holiness that was "out of this world." He teaches us to regard lowliness and persecution as blessed (see Mt 5:3, 10). We aren't allowed even to get angry or look lustfully (Mt 5:22, 28). Jesus went so far as to require that we offer no resistance to injury, turn the other cheek, and love our enemies (Mt 5:39, 44). He finally was "totally unrealistic" when He told us to be made perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (see Mt 5:48). Obviously this is impossible.
Jesus understands our dilemma. He said to the young rich man: "For man it is impossible but not for God. With God all things are possible" (Mk 10:27). The Son wants to give us a profoundly deeper trust in our Father so we will let Him grace us to live the Sermon on the Mount. The Lord is calling us to give alms, pray, and fast as we may never have done before (Mt 6:1ff).
We need to get out on the limb by giving a major contribution, praying for hours, or going on a long-term fast. When the limb breaks, we will discover that our heavenly Father will catch us (cf Ps 94:18, RNAB). We will trust Him to work more radically in our lives.
Prayer: Abba, do anything You want in, through, and with me - anything!
Promise: "The Lord keeps those who are constant, but more than requites those who act proudly." -Ps 31:24
Praise: Totaling his car, George learned to trust totally in God, and has lived in that trust for several decades.

FOUND OUT
"Have you found me out, my enemy?" -1 Kings 21:20
May our enemies find us out, that is, find out that we genuinely love them in truth. May our enemies find us out, that is, find out that we are praying and fasting for them, and offering Masses and sacrifices for them. May our enemies find us out, finding that we have no hatred in our hearts for them, but only true love (Mt 5:44ff).
May our enemies find us out, that is, find out that after we have suffered loss and pain as a result of their hatred, and despite our wounds suffered through their efforts, discover that we actually love them with a true, supernatural love. May our enemies find us at the foot of the cross, laying down our pain at Jesus' feet and receiving in turn Jesus' love for them.
In finding us out, may our enemies also find Jesus out. May they find out how deeply Jesus loves them. May they find God out - so deeply that they come to receive eternal life, salvation, and eternal joy in heaven with God - and with us - forever. "Love your enemies" (Mt 5:44).
Prayer: Father, may I give You glory by receiving the Holy Spirit and choosing to forgive my enemies.
Promise: "Have mercy on me, O God, in Your goodness; in the greatness of Your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me." -Ps 51:3-4
Praise: St. Romuald fought harder against temptations as he grew older. He would frequently be reduced to tears with the "boiling, indescribable heat of divine Love."
(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.) (St. Paul has messages for us today in his letters. Come to our beautiful retreat center and be fed with prayer, study and fellowship. Two opportunities to study Paul's letters are July 6-8, when we study his letter to the "Ephesians" and on July 13-15, we study his two "Letters to Timothy". CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
"His fellow citizens - the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city - did as Jezebel had ordered them." -1 Kings 21:11
To get Naboth's property, Jezebel, the queen of Samaria, ordered the elders and nobles of Naboth's city to get two scoundrels to falsely accuse Naboth and then to stone him to death (1 Kgs 21:11ff). Many people obeyed Jezebel and thereby participated in Naboth being murdered. When Jesus was crucified, many people obeyed orders from Pontius Pilate and the religious leaders. Thus, they "did the dirty work" of putting God to death.
Throughout history, masses of people, who think nothing of disobeying God, slavishly obey one wicked, perverted tyrant after another. The Nuremberg trials were one of the better known condemnations of those who obeyed authorities whose orders were contrary to God's will, truth, and justice.
The early Church faced this problem and their conclusion was: "Better for us to obey God than men!" (Acts 5:29) The present Church also has this challenge. This is obvious in areas where the Church is being persecuted, even unto martyrdom. Yet also in the more subtle circumstances of our secular humanistic society, God is calling us through our consciences to obey Him and disobey any governmental authority which forces behavior contrary to what is in accord with the teaching of Christ and His Church.
Prayer: Father, give me discernment and a willingness to die for the truth (see Sir 4:28).
Promise: "But what I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury. When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other." -Mt 5:39
Praise: Karen resigned her hospital job and became a private nurse when her hospital required her to assist in an abortion.

PM eNewsletter 11th Sunday in ordinary time
June 17th the eleventh Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, we are now in ordinary time, and we can get so busy doing life, that we forget that
in You there is no ordinary time.
Just extraordinary love and grace, to help us to live in extraordinary ways.
Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life, and only in You will we ever find rest for
our souls.
Help us, oh! Christ, to feel the love that You have for us, and so be able to help others
to find Your love as they see You in us.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday TREES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/17/2018
"And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord, bring low the high tree, lift high the
lowly tree, wither up the green tree, and make the withered tree bloom." -Ezekiel 17:24
The Bible begins with the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gn 2:9). It
ends with the trees of life on the banks of the river of life-giving waters in heaven (Rv 22:1-2).
Ezekiel described the Messianic kingdom as a majestic cedar tree on a high mountain (Ez 17:22-23).
In contrast, Jesus described His kingdom in a much less impressive way as being like a mustard tree
or shrub (Mk 4:32). Finally, the early Church referred to Jesus' cross as a tree (see Acts 13:29).
The cross is the ultimate tree of life bridging Genesis to Revelation, the beginning to the end,
earth to heaven, and humanity to God. The tree of the cross is the fulfillment of the Messianic
prophecies. It is the means of establishing God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. It is the
way to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Prayer: Father, may the sight of a tree make me think with gratitude of Your Son's cross.
Promise: "We walk by faith, not by sight." -2 Cor 5:7
Praise: Praise You Jesus, our Life, Love, and risen Lord God. You are "the Author of Life"
(Acts 3:15). We rejoice in You!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
A PATH OF HOLINESS
Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in a path of holiness. Let everything be open to God; turn
to Him in every situation. Do not be dismayed, for the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to do
this ... In the Church, holy but made up of sinners, you will find everything you need to grow
towards holiness. The Lord has bestowed on the Church the gifts of scripture, the sacraments, holy
places, living communities, the witness of the saints and a multifaceted beauty that proceeds from
God's love ... (15)
YOUR MISSION
A Christian cannot think of his or her mission on earth without seeing it as a path of holiness, for
"this is the will of God, your sanctification" (1 Thess 4:3). Each saint is a mission, planned by
the Father to reflect and embody, at a specific moment in history, a certain aspect of the Gospel.
(19)
JESUS IS THE KEY
That mission has its fullest meaning in Christ, and can only be understood through Him. At its core,
holiness is experiencing, in union with Christ, the mysteries of His life. (20)

DISCIPLESHIP: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN - One Bread, One Body, 6/16/2018

DISCIPLESHIP: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
FULLNESS AND FAILURE "Then [Elisha] left and followed Elijah as his attendant." -1 Kings 19:21
The culmination of Elijah's earth-shaking ministry was when he heard God whisper to him to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha (1 Kgs 19:15-16). Personally, Elijah anointed only Elisha. The other two anointings were done by Elisha, Elijah's disciple, and by another disciple of Elisha. Elijah's great mission was completed by discipleship (see 1 Kgs 19:21).
When Jesus was hanging on the cross before His death, he commanded one of His disciples, representing all His disciples, to accept Mary as the mother of all His disciples (see Jn 19:27). Shortly before He ascended into heaven, Jesus commanded all His disciples to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19). The culmination and completion of the mission of Jesus is by discipleship.
The Lord has an amazing plan for your life. Will this plan be done fully? That depends on how well you make disciples of your children, family, fellow workers, friends, and other people the Lord has brought into your life. Be His disciple by His standards (see Lk 9:23-24), and make disciples of all nations.
Prayer: Father, make discipleship the priority for me that You want it to be.
Promise: "Say, 'Yes' when you mean 'Yes' and 'No' when you mean 'No.' Anything beyond that is from the evil one." -Mt 5:37
Praise: John and Linda discipled each of their eight children. Two of them are in the seminary preparing to be priests.
(It's not too late to plan a family vacation with the Lord at our Discipleship Center June 25-29. The theme of our teaching sessions is "Faith and Vocations". Enjoy the beautiful setting in Adams County, Ohio. To register or for information, call 937-587-5464 or 513-373-2397 or visit www.presentationministries.com.)

"THE SOUND OF SILENCE"
"There was a tiny whispering sound." -1 Kings 19:12
God communicates in myriad ways. On occasion, the Lord roars (Am 1:2; 3:8) and thunders (Ps 29:3, 7-9). However, a major characteristic of God's communication with mankind is His whisperings and His silence. The Lord often whispers, as He did to the prophet Elijah. He is gentle (Mt 11:29). "He will not contend or cry out, nor will His voice be heard in the streets" (Mt 12:19). God is regularly found in silence. Often the Lord seemingly "hides," for example, in the tabernacle or in the Eucharist.
Therefore, we must "seek the Lord while He may be found" (Is 55:6). He doesn't hide so that we won't be able to find Him. He does not remain silent so that we won't be able to hear Him. God whispers so that we can learn His will (see Is 30:20-21). He comes to those who are still and silent enough to wait for Him (see Ps 46:11; Is 30:15).
Can you still and quiet your soul in order to hear His whispers and silence? (Ps 131:2)
Prayer: Father, may I want to hear You so badly that I will turn off everything else.
Promise: "I have been most zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts." -1 Kgs 19:14
Praise: Mark spends time in Eucharistic adoration each day.

AGAIN!
"Seven times he said, 'Go look again!' " -1 Kings 18:43
Elijah prayed seven times for something that was good, something that was promised: the rain necessary to end a famine of three-and-a-half years. It took more than one prayer. Sometimes we must persevere in prayer.
God certainly hears us the first time we pray, if our prayer comes from a forgiving, humble heart of service to Him (see Sir 35:16-17). Elijah did not grow skeptical the first time he prayed for rain and no rain came. He believed God and trusted Him, and prayed yet again, seven times (1 Kgs 18:41ff). "The fervent petition of a holy man is powerful indeed. Elijah was only a man like us, yet he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and no rain fell on the land for three years and six months. When he prayed again, the sky burst forth with rain and the land produced its crop" (Jas 5:16-18).
The need for persistence in prayer is for our good. It teaches us to go to God spontaneously and regularly. We learn that God is the Source of all. It teaches us to not turn our backs on God and reminds us to be grateful to God upon receiving the answer to our prayer. Though God never sleeps nor slumbers (Ps 121:4), it can seem to us that He does not hear us when our prayers are not answered quickly. We thus need to pray persistently not so He can hear us better, but so that we can learn to hear Him better.
Perseverance in prayer trains us in the discipline of the Lord. Jesus put His hands on the blind man twice to heal him (Mk 8:23-25). So pray with persistence and perseverance. Would we have a culture of death if enough believers had persevered in praying decades ago? Persevere in prayer today for the Church of the future.
Prayer: Father, grace me to "never cease praying" (1 Thes 5:17).
Promise: "The hand of the Lord was on Elijah." -1 Kgs 18:46
Praise: Joyce prayed for many years for her husband's deliverance from addiction and saw her prayers answered.
