TEACHING US HOW TO FISH
"They were fishermen. [Jesus] said to them, 'Come after Me and I will make you fishers of men.' " -Matthew 4:18-19
The first calling Jesus gave His disciples was to be "fishers of men." To Jesus' first four disciples, the term "fishers of men" meant that:
* Jesus wanted to use their work experience to build His kingdom.
* Jesus was calling them out of the commercial fishing business (Mt 4:20).
* Jesus was calling them to leave father and family (Mt 4:22).
* They were to catch people, that is, lead people to Christ.
* Their new kind of fishing would likewise be hard, back-breaking work with long and difficult hours (see Jn 21:3, 6).
* They would never catch any fish or men except by the grace of God.
St. Andrew, a fisherman, understood what Jesus meant, and he immediately fished for his brother, Simon (Jn 1:40-41). Andrew was such a champion "fisher of men" that when some Greeks came to Philip and asked to see Jesus, "Philip went to tell Andrew" (Jn 12:22). May we be like Andrew and understand that discipleship is receiving the grace to make a radical decision to evangelize no matter what the cost. Let's go fishing with Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I live and die to evangelize.
Promise: "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." -Rm 10:9
Praise: St. Andrew is said to have preached Jesus even as he was being crucified on an X-shaped cross.

THANKS IN THE END
"When you see Jerusalem encircled by soldiers, know that its devastation is near." -Luke 21:20
Jesus said that Jerusalem would be destroyed. Since Jerusalem was a city specially chosen in God's plan of salvation, Jesus' prediction seemed impossible. Less than forty years later, in 70 A.D., Jesus' prophecy was fulfilled.
John, in the book of Revelation, prophesied that the Roman empire, symbolized by Babylon, would fall (Rv 18:2). This most stable of empires fell.
Jesus said that this world will be destroyed and will pass away (see Lk 21:26, 33; 2 Pt 3:7). He was right about Jerusalem's destruction, and He is right about the world's end.
Not only are cities, empires, and planet earth in the process of falling apart, we all are falling apart (see 2 Cor 4:16). Our reaction to this fact should not be denial or despair but thanksgiving. Like a grain of wheat, we must fall to the earth and die in order to bear fruit (Jn 12:24). We must die in Christ to rise with Him (2 Tm 2:11).
Thank God that the world is passing away and we are falling apart. Thank God there is so much more than this life. Thank God for endings which open the door to new beginnings. Thank God not only for what's going well but for what's going down. Thank God.
Prayer: Father, make me be more thankful each day as I get closer to death and home.
Promise: "Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful song." -Ps 100:1-2
Praise: David repented and was baptized just weeks before he died.

"WHITE MARTYRDOM" - One Bread, One Body, 11/28/2018

"WHITE MARTYRDOM"
"You will be brought to give witness." -Luke 21:13
Throughout the history of the Church numerous martyrs have testified in their court trials that they were Christians, that they feared none but God alone, and that they preferred to die rather than renounce their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Most of us will not have to testify before rulers and powers intent on forcing us to deny Jesus or die. Some of you may be required to do so; may you be inspired by the words of Jesus in today's Gospel reading.
Nonetheless, most of us are put on trial multiple times per week in the court of public opinion. These "trials" are held in the grocery store, in the office, at school, and even in Church buildings. This type of repeated trial has been referred to as "white martyrdom," a non-bloody way of being put on trial repeatedly for our faith in Christ. This can be draining, but Jesus tells us: "By patient endurance you will save your lives" (Lk 21:19).
Therefore, rely completely on the Holy Spirit. May the Spirit radiate in your time of trial as it did with St. Stephen, the first Christian "red martyr." Throughout his trial, his "face seemed like that of an angel" (Acts 6:15). As Christmas approaches, we will frequently hear the song "White Christmas." When I hear that song, I will be dreaming of a White Christmas, with an army of white martyrs leading the world to the Christ of Christmas. Come, Lord Jesus! (Rv 22:20)
Prayer: Father, may I have the true Christmas spirit, the Holy Spirit. I abandon to You my life, whatever may come.
Promise: "Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wondrous deeds." -Ps 98:1
Praise: Catherine's patient, loving support of her non-Christian husband led him to conversion.

"Now is the time to reap." -Revelation 14:15
At the end, Jesus, the King of kings (Rv 17:14), will come riding on a white cloud with a gold crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand (Rv 14:14). He will gather the harvest of justice (Rv 14:16). Then an angel will come from the temple in heaven. He will also wield a sharp sickle to gather the grapes of wrath (Rv 14:19). We will all be harvested, either by our loving Lord or by the "grim reaper."
"When will this be, Teacher? And what will be the sign that it is going to happen?" (Lk 21:7) The answer is: Soon and "very soon" we are going to see the King (Rv 1:1). "Happy is the man who reads this prophetic message, and happy are those who hear it and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near!" (Rv 1:3) "As regards specific times and moments, brothers, we do not need to write you; you know very well that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night. Just when people are saying, 'Peace and security,' ruin will fall on them with the suddenness of pains overtaking a woman in labor, and there will be no escape. You are not in the dark, brothers, that the day should catch you off guard, like a thief. No, all of you are children of light and of the day. We belong neither to darkness nor to night; therefore let us not be asleep like the rest, but awake and sober!" (1 Thes 5:1-6) "The One Who gives this testimony says, 'Yes, I am coming soon!' Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!" (Rv 22:20)
Prayer: Jesus, may I be ready for Your final coming at any time. Make me ready now.
Promise: "He comes to rule the earth." -Ps 96:13
Praise: When hearing he was terminally ill, Norman rejoiced in the Lord. He completely entrusted his life, hopes, and future to Jesus.

HOW TO GO TO HEAVEN
"I heard a sound from heaven." -Revelation 14:2
To be with the Lord forever in heaven, we must:
* decide to have the Lord's name written on our foreheads (Rv 14:1), that is, be baptized in His name and live our Baptisms fully and publicly,
* sing a new hymn before God's throne (Rv 14:3) as we worship Him "in Spirit and truth" (Jn 4:24),
* let the Lord ransom us from the world (Rv 14:3) and "have no love for the world, nor the things that the world affords" (1 Jn 2:15),
* be "pure and follow the Lamb wherever He goes" (Rv 14:4), and
* let the Holy Spirit purify our lives, hearts, and lips to make us holy (see Rv 14:5; Heb 12:14).
Specifically, to be with the Lord forever in heaven, we must give the Lord not only our surplus (see Lk 21:4), part of our lives, or most of our lives. Rather, we must give Him all our hearts, all our souls, all our strength, and all our minds (Lk 10:27).
Naturally, we refuse to give our "all" to the Lord (see Mk 10:22). Supernaturally, when the Holy Spirit graces us to believe that Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross for us, then we respond in love and give ourselves totally to Him. We receive the new nature in which we live with the Lord forever (2 Cor 5:17). In love, give "all" to Jesus and live always with Jesus forever in heaven.
Prayer: Father, may I go to be with You in heaven as soon as You will it.
Promise: "Who can ascend the mountain of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean, who desires not what is vain." -Ps 24:3-4
Praise: Together Patrick and his wife Joan have prayed many years as a team to heal many people and set them free in Christ.

Let our witness show Your true power and loving care.
Let us see You in the "Breaking of the Bread" that shows us the love that came to us from the cross.
Let us all fall down in worship of You and feel that presence of You in our hearts.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE GOVERNMENT OF GOD
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/25/2018
"His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, His kingship shall not be
destroyed." -Daniel 7:14
In heaven, the form of government in which we shall live eternally will not be a democracy, socialism,
a Communist regime, or that of a tyrannical dictator. Jesus is King, that is, a Monarch, and He is a
benevolent and sovereign Lord. We who believe in King Jesus will spend eternity with a blessed Ruler
(1 Tm 6:15) Who loves us beyond measure.
Even those who have lived in a worldly monarchy or benevolent dictatorship will hardly be able to
relate to the heavenly kingdom, for no one has even begun to imagine what our Ruler has in store for
us (1 Cor 2:9). Earthly kings might be so lavish as to throw a seven-day party (Est 1:5); King Jesus
gives an eternal wedding feast (Rv 19:9). Earthly rulers put to death those who try to kill them
(Est A:13-14); Lord Jesus dies for us as we kill Him (Catechism, 598). Only a few people are allowed
access to earthly rulers; everyone has access to King Jesus (Eph 2:18; Mt 11:28; Jn 6:37). Earthly
rulers lord their authority over their subjects (Mt 20:25); Lord Jesus comes to serve His subjects and
lay down His life out of love for us (Mt 20:28; Lk 22:27; Jn 10:15; 13:5).
Many in our secular world choose to serve gods of sex, money, power, greed, ambition, status, or
wanton pleasure-seeking. Others are imprisoned under the rule of the harsh dictatorship of addiction,
compulsion, abuse. "Decide today whom you will serve" (Jos 24:15). Give your life to Jesus, your King
and Lord.
Prayer: Christ the King, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt 6:10).
Promise: "Anyone committed to the truth hears My voice." -Jn 18:37
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All. I love You forever. Alleluia!

Please pray that our mighty God, in the holy name of Jesus Christ our Savior, will remedy a situation

hard.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become
an action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this
end we need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the
other's problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and
this ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all
religious persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and
consists in "doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves
to succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a
dignified life.

THE GOVERNMENT OF GOD
"His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, His kingship shall not be destroyed." -Daniel 7:14
In heaven, the form of government in which we shall live eternally will not be a democracy, socialism, a Communist regime, or that of a tyrannical dictator. Jesus is King, that is, a Monarch, and He is a benevolent and sovereign Lord. We who believe in King Jesus will spend eternity with a blessed Ruler (1 Tm 6:15) Who loves us beyond measure.
Even those who have lived in a worldly monarchy or benevolent dictatorship will hardly be able to relate to the heavenly kingdom, for no one has even begun to imagine what our Ruler has in store for us (1 Cor 2:9). Earthly kings might be so lavish as to throw a seven-day party (Est 1:5); King Jesus gives an eternal wedding feast (Rv 19:9). Earthly rulers put to death those who try to kill them (Est A:13-14); Lord Jesus dies for us as we kill Him (Catechism, 598). Only a few people are allowed access to earthly rulers; everyone has access to King Jesus (Eph 2:18; Mt 11:28; Jn 6:37). Earthly rulers lord their authority over their subjects (Mt 20:25); Lord Jesus comes to serve His subjects and lay down His life out of love for us (Mt 20:28; Lk 22:27; Jn 10:15; 13:5).
Many in our secular world choose to serve gods of sex, money, power, greed, ambition, status, or wanton pleasure-seeking. Others are imprisoned under the rule of the harsh dictatorship of addiction, compulsion, abuse. "Decide today whom you will serve" (Jos 24:15). Give your life to Jesus, your King and Lord.
Prayer: Christ the King, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt 6:10).

Promise: "Anyone committed to the truth hears My voice." -Jn 18:37
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All. I love You forever. Alleluia!

WITNESS STAND - One Bread, One Body, 11/24/2018
Saturday, November 24, 2018, St. Andrew Dung-Lac, & Companions

WITNESS STAND
"Fire will come out of the mouths of these witnesses to devour their enemies." -Revelation 11:5
As members of the Church, we are olive trees (Rv 11:4), that is, we are anointed by the Holy Spirit. Because we are olive trees, we are lampstands (Rv 11:4). We are the light of the world (Mt 5:14). Because we are the light of the world and because those who practice evil hate the light (Jn 3:20), we are witnesses, that is, martyrs. Because we are witnesses, "the breath of life which comes from God" will return to us and we will rise gloriously from the dead (Rv 11:11).
Most people like the beginning and end of this series. Everyone wants the power which accompanies being anointed. Everyone wants to rise victoriously from the dead. However, not many want the witness of martyrdom. Nevertheless, we won't be olive trees and lampstands for long if we refuse to suffer as the Lord's witnesses. Likewise, we rise because we've lived and died for Jesus as His witnesses. Therefore, the key to the Christian life is being a witness. Witnesses always are olive trees and lampstands, who will surely rise in glory from the dead.
Be Jesus' witness right where you are and then even to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
Prayer: Jesus, may I receive power from on high to be Your witness (see Lk 24:49; Acts 1:8).
Promise: "God is not the God of the dead but of the living. All are alive for Him." -Lk 20:38
Praise: St. John-Theophane Venard, martyred in Vietnam, had corresponded with St. Therese of Lisieux. John chose "the little way" by accepting martyrdom out of perfect love for Jesus.

"MY SWEET LORD" - One Bread, One Body, 11/23/2018
Friday, November 23, 2018, Pope St. Clement, St. Columban, Bl. Miguel Pro
Revelation 10:8-11, Psalm 119:14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131, Luke 19:45-48

"MY SWEET LORD"
"How sweet to my palate are Your promises, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" -Psalm 119:103
From His cross, Jesus utters in agony, "I thirst" (see Jn 19:28). Elsewhere in John's Gospel, Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at the well, "Give Me a drink" (Jn 4:7). Interestingly, the text of John 4 never mentions Jesus getting a drink of actual water from the woman. Yet John 4 ends with Jesus apparently no longer thirsty, because the woman receives Him enthusiastically; her love provided the drink for which Jesus thirsted.
Today's psalm response is from Psalm 119:103, the verse highlighted above: "How sweet to my taste is Your promise." The psalmist tells the Lord that the promises of God, as written down in the law of Moses in the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch, are sweet to his taste. However, I invite you to consider today's psalm response as coming from the mouth of the crucified Jesus. He is hanging in utter agony upon His cross, and He speaks, saying "I thirst" (see Jn 19:28). He has come to light a fire on earth, and He wishes the blaze were ignited (Lk 12:49). When we make our promises to Jesus, such as renewing our baptismal promises, our promises in the sacraments, and our promise to spend our lives in His service, we are giving him a drink (see Jn 4:7). This is what He thirsts for, and this is the honey on His tongue. It is as if the crucified Jesus is saying to us: "How sweet to My taste is your promise." Give Jesus a drink. Promise to spend your life spreading His Good News to the world.
Prayer: Father, put me in touch with reality by giving me a heavenly perspective.
Promise: "The law of Your mouth is to me more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces." -Ps 119:72
Praise: Pope St. Clement promoted peace and unity in the Church. (This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.)

SEEING THROUGH THE TEARS - One Bread, One Body, 11/22/2018
Thursday, November 22, 2018, St. Cecilia
Revelation 5:1-10, Psalm 149:1-6, 9, Luke 19:41-44

SEEING THROUGH THE TEARS
"Coming within sight of the city, He wept over it." -Luke 19:41
The Church is renewed through a "vale of tears." We don't just pray and work for renewal; we cry for it. We will see the light through our tears when we love enough to weep bitterly (Rv 5:4) for Jesus to "open the scroll" (Rv 5:5), that is, reveal His plan for renewing the Church. The Lord wants to give us "full knowledge of His will through perfect wisdom and spiritual insight" (Col 1:9). He knows that without a vision for renewal, we will flounder (see Prv 29:18, JB).
However, the devil tries to prevent us from receiving God's revelation for renewal. He will even attempt to obstruct the path of God's angels to prevent them from revealing to us God's plan for renewal (see Dn 10:12-13). If we keep on crying, not in self-pity but in repentance for our sins and in love for God and others, we will get the message, see the light, and renew the Church.
Do you love enough to stop crying for yourself and start crying for the Church? Do you love enough to keep crying even for years? If so, the Lord can use you to renew the Church. Then you will cry tears of joy.
Prayer: Father, "oh, that my head were a spring of water, my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night over the slain of the daughter of my people!" (Jer 8:23, NAB)
Promise: "The Lord loves His people, and He adorns the lowly with victory." -Ps 149:4
Praise: St. Cecilia, like Christ, became perfected through suffering. St. Cecilia, patroness of music, pray that we will praise God always.

OUR PATRONAL FEAST - One Bread, One Body, 11/21/2018

OUR PATRONAL FEAST
"A man of noble birth went to a faraway country to become its king, and then return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them sums of ten units each." -Luke 19:12-13
Jesus has revealed to us the following principles of stewardship:
* Stewardship is about meeting God's standards and not about comparing ourselves to others. "More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48).
* Faithful stewards will be given greater responsibilities (Lk 19:17, 19).
* Faithful stewards will receive the resources originally given to unfaithful stewards (Lk 19:24).
* Thus, unfaithful stewards lose what they had (Lk 19:26). The old saying is true: "If you don't use it, you lose it."
* Bad stewardship is often a matter of rebellion (see Lk 19:14, 27).
* Bad stewardship will be punished (Lk 19:27).
Today is the patronal feast day of Our Lady of Presentation Ministries, who publishes One Bread, One Body. We have tried to be faithful stewards of our gifts, our time, and your money. Please pray that we will remain faithful. Thanks to all those who have worked hard for many years without pay in order to proclaim God's Word and invite all of us to live the Eucharist. We thank God for you and thank Him for the privilege of being His stewards.
Prayer: Father, may all members of Presentation Ministries be sanctified.
Promise: "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Alleluia." -Ps 150:6
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, for giving us Mary as our mother and model discipler. We glorify You in prayer and worship.

SEEING THE BLINDNESS
"Today salvation has come to this house." -Luke 19:9
Salvation came to Zacchaeus' house when Jesus, the Savior, came to his house and when Zacchaeus said: "I give half my belongings, Lord, to the poor. If I have defrauded anyone in the least, I pay him back fourfold" (Lk 19:8). Zacchaeus accepted Jesus and salvation by loving the poor, making radical changes in his lifestyle, and admitting that he may have defrauded others.
When we sin, we become spiritually blind and even blind to being blind. Nevertheless, Zacchaeus inferred that he may have been blind to injustices that he had done. This is a great grace when someone prays to be cleansed of their unknown faults (Ps 19:13) and thereby admits at least the possibility of spiritual blindness. Paul had this grace when he stated: "Mind you, I have nothing on my conscience. But that does not mean that I am declaring myself innocent" (1 Cor 4:4). Paul did not rule out the possibility of spiritual blindness. In contrast, the church of Laodicea did not realize how wretched, pitiable, poor, naked, and blind it was (Rv 3:17). This church needed to have its sight restored by smearing the ointment of repentance on its eyes (see Rv 3:18). However, like some of the Pharisees, the church of Laodicea said: "But we see," and their sin remained (Jn 9:41).
Eventually, blindness to spiritual blindness can become the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Spirit (Mt 12:31). How can we ask forgiveness when we've lost the sense of sin! With Zacchaeus, let us admit the possibility of spiritual blindness in our lives. This is part of accepting salvation into our houses.
Prayer: Father, open the eyes of our hearts (Eph 1:18 in the Greek) and of all who read this.
Promise: "I will never erase his name from the book of the living, but will acknowledge him in the presence of My Father." -Rv 3:5
Praise: Belinda repented deeply of years of living a lifestyle of sexual sins. She has since been receiving Jesus daily in the Eucharist for years.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION - One Bread, One Body, 11/19/2018

THE BOOK OF REVELATION
"This is the revelation God gave." -Revelation 1:1
The Bible is the greatest revelation the Lord has given through His Church. Thus, it is appropriate for the Bible to end with the book of Revelation. This book is given:
* "to Jesus Christ" (Rv 1:1),
* through Jesus to us who are His slaves (Rv 1:1),
* to us by an angel sent to John (Rv 1:1),
* to show us "what must happen very soon" (Rv 1:1),
* as a "prophetic message" (Rv 1:3),
* to bless us (Rv 1:3),
* to the Church (see Rv 1:4), and
* to call us to repent and return to our "early love" of God (Rv 2:4).
In the book of Revelation, the Lord has saved the best wine until last (see Jn 2:10). It is a great privilege to enter into the mystery of the book of Revelation. Therefore:
* thank the Lord for Revelation,
* ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to all truth in Revelation (see Jn 16:13),
* read the whole book of Revelation in the next two weeks, not only the excerpts read at Mass each day,
* live what you read in Revelation, and
* share what the Holy Spirit teaches you in Revelation.
Let us end the Church's year learning, loving, and living Revelation.
Prayer: Father, through the book of Revelation, prepare me for Your Son's final coming.
Promise: Lord, "I want to see." -Lk 18:41
Praise: John and Liz repented of years of using contraceptives. Their marriage is closer than ever before.
(For a related teaching, you may want to order or download our booklet "Simple Reading Guide to John and Revelation" on our website.)

PM eNewsletter 33rd Sunday in ordinary time
November 18th 33rd Sunday in ordinary time
This week, Oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the "Presentation of Mary".
Let us see in this feast that Your plan of our redemption was unfolding in a very simple yet
concise way.
Mary, our mother, the "new ark of the covenant" was brought to God so as to be sealed in His
love.
Mary, our mother, was always and still is, full of grace, and her intercession is very
powerful, for all of us.
We have a loving, caring mother who loves us and prays for us all.
Jesus, give us the grace to realize Your love, and the means we can use to get the help we need
to reach Your kingdom in heaven, some day, thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday "HE IS NEAR" (MK 13:29)
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/18/2018
"Then men will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. He will dispatch His
angels and assemble His chosen." -Mark 13:26-27
In these last two weeks of the Church year, the Church pays special attention to the Second Coming of
Christ. Focusing on Jesus' return in power is critical for our life in Christ and our spiritual
well-being.
Some readers of One Bread, One Body live in foreign countries and are actively persecuted for their
faith in Jesus. Some of our foreign printers and distributors risk their lives regularly to spread
God's Word. If you "face death every day" (1 Cor 15:31) for your life of courageous faith, be
encouraged. The Lord Jesus will always have the final word. Your Redeemer lives, and your eyes will
see Him (Jb 19:25, 27). "He is near, even at the door" (Mk 13:29; Rv 3:20), and you will see Him
coming with great power and glory to vindicate you (Mk 13:26-27). "Stand erect and hold your heads
high, for your deliverance is near at hand" (Lk 21:28).
For those who don't live for the Lord, Jesus' Second Coming will not be humble and meek as was His
first coming. There will be no meek Infant lying in an obscure manger this time. This time His coming
will shake the cosmos in "great power and glory" (Mk 13:26). Few noticed Him in Bethlehem; this time
"every eye shall see Him, even of those who" reject Him (Rv 1:7). He will come as Judge (Jas 5:9).
Therefore, repent now before it's too late! Reconcile with Jesus now, for you know not the day or the
hour of His return (Mk 13:32).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I know You as Savior as well as Judge.
Promise: "You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in Your presence, the delights at Your
right hand forever." -Ps 16:11
Praise: All honor and glory to You, risen Jesus. Marantha! Come Lord Jesus!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
"HOPES OF MILLIONS"
The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions
of persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of
that great number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the
opposite and yet recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to
be cooling.
"EFFECTIVE HELP"
The poor expect from us an effective help that takes them out of their misery... In this
twenty-first century that has seen considerable advances in the field of technology, science,
communications and infrastructure, we ought to feel shame for not having achieved the same advances
in humanity and solidarity, and so satisfy the primary needs of the most disadvantaged.
"WE MUST DO BETTER"
We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to
concrete action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.

continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

"HE IS NEAR" (MK 13:29) - One Bread, One Body, 11/18/2018
Sunday, November 18, 2018, 33rd Sunday Ordinary Time
Daniel 12:1-3, Hebrews 10:11-14, 18, Psalm 16:5, 8-11, Mark 13:24-32
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111818.cfm
"HE IS NEAR" (MK 13:29)
"Then men will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. He will dispatch His angels and assemble His chosen." -Mark 13:26-27
In these last two weeks of the Church year, the Church pays special attention to the Second Coming of Christ. Focusing on Jesus' return in power is critical for our life in Christ and our spiritual well-being.
Some readers of One Bread, One Body live in foreign countries and are actively persecuted for their faith in Jesus. Some of our foreign printers and distributors risk their lives regularly to spread God's Word. If you "face death every day" (1 Cor 15:31) for your life of courageous faith, be encouraged. The Lord Jesus will always have the final word. Your Redeemer lives, and your eyes will see Him (Jb 19:25, 27). "He is near, even at the door" (Mk 13:29; Rv 3:20), and you will see Him coming with great power and glory to vindicate you (Mk 13:26-27). "Stand erect and hold your heads high, for your deliverance is near at hand" (Lk 21:28).
For those who don't live for the Lord, Jesus' Second Coming will not be humble and meek as was His first coming. There will be no meek Infant lying in an obscure manger this time. This time His coming will shake the cosmos in "great power and glory" (Mk 13:26). Few noticed Him in Bethlehem; this time "every eye shall see Him, even of those who" reject Him (Rv 1:7). He will come as Judge (Jas 5:9). Therefore, repent now before it's too late! Reconcile with Jesus now, for you know not the day or the hour of His return (Mk 13:32).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I know You as Savior as well as Judge.
Promise: "You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in Your presence, the delights at Your right hand forever." -Ps 16:11
Praise: All honor and glory to You, risen Jesus. Marantha! Come Lord Jesus!

"FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET" - One Bread, One Body, 11/17/2018
Attend our upcoming Discipleship Retreat, "Men's Retreat: Practicing the Presence of God", Dec 1 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Discipleship Center in Peebles, OH. For more information or to register visit http://www.presentationministries.com/general/event.asp?eventID=350

"FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET"
"Will He delay long over them, do you suppose? I tell you, He will give them swift justice." -Luke 18:7-8
God's timing is different than ours. "This point must not be overlooked, dear friends. In the Lord's eyes, one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years are as a day" (2 Pt 3:8). This means that God is both very slow and very fast by our standards. We often emphasize God's supposed slowness. Yet we should also focus on His speed. God sometimes works "in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Cor 15:52). God promises to give us "swift justice" (Lk 18:8).
However, the Lord will not force His justice or His swiftness on us. We must pray always and not lose heart (Lk 18:1; 1 Thes 5:17). Otherwise, we may cause the Lord to delay (Lk 18:7) in stopping the gross injustices of abortion, racism, "ethnic cleansings," starvation, and other catastrophic evils.
To pray always and receive God's swift justice, we must have faith. "Faith is confident assurance concerning what we hope for, and conviction about things we do not see" (Heb 11:1). Faith is a gift which the Lord freely gives. Once again, we must pray to receive faith (Lk 17:5), exercise the faith we have, and nourish our faith through hearing God's Word, for faith comes through hearing, and hearing by God's Word (Rm 10:17).
Grow in faith; pray always; receive swift justice in a severely unjust world. "Then the God of peace will quickly crush Satan under your feet" (Rm 16:20). Come Jesus - swiftly! (Rv 22:20)
Prayer: Father, I will work to hasten Your Son's final coming (2 Pt 3:12) by my holiness and obedience.
Promise: "Will not God then do justice to His chosen who call out to Him day and night?" -Lk 18:7
Praise: St. Elizabeth dedicated herself to prayer and the poor. She gave up luxury and leisure to live a life of penance and caring for the sick.

FUTURE NOW - One Bread, One Body, 11/16/2018

FUTURE NOW
"As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They ate and drank, they took husbands and wives, right up to the day Noah entered the ark - and when the flood came, it destroyed them all." -Luke 17:26-27
At the end of the world, many people will not be prepared. This has also been the case with Noah's flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and other catastrophes. Thus, to be prepared for the future, we must be prepared in the present for anything.
Are you ready for the end of the world and Jesus' final coming now? Are you ready to die now? Are you ready to be martyred for Jesus now? If we're not ready to die now, then we're not ready to live the abundant life in Christ.
To be ready for anything now, we must be living in and for Jesus alone. Jesus is our only Hope, and the only Hope we need. Jesus is the Lord of the past, the present, and the future (see Heb 13:8). Jesus is the only name "in the whole world given to men by which we are to be saved" (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, we can do nothing (Jn 15:5). In Jesus, nothing is impossible (Lk 1:37). Jesus is God, Who "is Love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him" (1 Jn 4:16). "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rm 8:1). When Jesus is our Life (see Jn 14:6; 11:25), we have eternal life. In Jesus, we will escape the wrath to come (1 Thes 1:10), for the Lord has plans for our welfare, not for woe - plans to give us a future full of hope (Jer 29:11). Give your life totally to Jesus now. Then look forward in joy to the future.
Prayer: Father, make all who read this holy in every aspect of their conduct (1 Pt 1:15).
Promise: "Look out that you yourselves do not lose what you have worked for; you must receive your reward in full." -2 Jn 8
Praise: St. Margaret has been called the ideal mother and queen. She learned the Faith from her English father and Hungarian mother, and taught it to her Scottish husband and children.

THE END - One Bread, One Body, 11/15/2018
Thursday, November 15, 2018, St. Albert the Great
Philemon 7-20, Psalm 146:7-10, Luke 17:20-25

THE END
"A time will come when you will long to see one day of the Son of Man but will not see it." -Luke 17:22
As we near the end of the Church's year, the Church calls us to read about the end of the world. The Church is reminding us that:
* We cannot tell when the world will end (Lk 17:20).
* The last day will be so bad that we "will long to see one day of the Son of Man but will not see it" (Lk 17:22).
* Jesus will return at the world's end (see Lk 17:24).
* His return will turn the worst day to the great day.
* All of these events will happen very quickly, "like the lightning that flashes from one end of the sky to the other" (Lk 17:24).
Many other signs will occur at the end of the world, but these are four verses worth. Tomorrow, the Church will have us read more about the world's end, but we've heard enough today to respond by:
* praying,
* repenting,
* resolving to share our faith,
* forgiving, and
* surrendering our lives to God.
We need Jesus. Without Him, we can do nothing (Jn 15:5). This is obvious now, but will become even more obvious at the end. Trust Jesus, our only Hope and the only Hope we need.
Prayer: Father, I receive Your Word not as the word of man but as it truly is, Your Word, the Word of God (1 Thes 2:13).
Promise: "Refresh this heart of mine in Christ." -Phlm 20
Praise: It is said of St. Albert the Great that each day he prayed the entire book of Psalms.
(Join other Catholic men Dec. 1 for a "just for you" retreat. The topic is "Practicing the Presence of God" and it will fortify your spiritual walk with the Lord. For more information or to register call 513-373-2397 or e-mail retreats@presentationministries.com.)

SAVING SAYINGS
"He saved us." -Titus 3:5
"When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us" (Ti 3:4-5). "He saved us through the baptism of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit He lavished on us through Jesus Christ our Savior" (Ti 3:5-6). We have been saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8; see also Lk 17:19). Jesus, Whose name means "Yahweh saves," is our Savior, our only Savior (see Acts 4:12).
The Lord commands us to:
* Rejoice in our salvation (Is 25:9). With Mary, we exclaim: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior" (Lk 1:46-47).
* "Work with anxious concern to achieve [our] salvation" (Phil 2:12). This means we should live our salvation by being faithful to our baptismal promises.
* Share our salvation by witnessing for Jesus (Acts 1:8) and making disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19), for Jesus wants all to be saved (1 Tm 2:4).
Remember that without being saved by Jesus, we would be "foolish, disobedient, and far from true faith" (Ti 3:3), for "we were the slaves of our passions and of pleasures of various kinds. We went our way in malice and envy, hateful ourselves and hating one another" (Ti 3:3). Our lives would be hell on earth and hell after earth but for Jesus our Savior. We owe everything to Him. Therefore, let us rejoice in our salvation, live it to the full, and share it with everyone. Praise Jesus, our only Savior!
Prayer: Lord, I will make "myself all things to all men in order to save at least some of them" (1 Cor 9:22).
Promise: "One of them, realizing that he had been cured, came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself on his face at the feet of Jesus and spoke His praises." -Lk 17:15-16
Praise: Jack arrived at a weekend Life in the Spirit seminar in a wheelchair. Receiving both the Spirit and a healing, he walked out of the seminar pushing his wheelchair to his car.

THE MALE-MAN
"Tell the older men that they must be temperate, serious-minded, and self-controlled; likewise sound in the faith, loving, and steadfast." -Titus 2:2
"Tell the young men to keep themselves completely under control." -Titus 2:6
In the USA, we often expect our parishes and pastors to provide for the religious education of our children. We expect our pastors to provide the sacraments and to reach out especially to the elderly and the sick. These expectations are good, but they are different than the early Church's expectations for ministry.
St. Paul expected St. Titus, the pastor of the church of Crete, to focus his ministry on old men and young men so as to call these men to holiness (Ti 2:2, 6). Paul expected that holy men would make their marriages and families holy. In this way, the Church would have credibility. Many would listen to the Gospel and become Christians, thus making disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19).
In today's Church, there is something wrong. Symptoms of our problem are:
* our children leaving the Church,
* our inability to stop millions of children from being aborted,
* the breakdown of Catholic marriages, and
* the refusal of many young people to accept vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.
Considering the casualties the Church is suffering in our culture of death, we should "stand beside the earliest roads, ask the pathways of old which is the way to good, and walk it" (Jer 6:16). This means focusing on the ministry to men.
Prayer: Father, may men lead their families in prayer, and in every place "offer prayers with blameless hands held aloft" (1 Tm 2:8).
Promise: "Take delight in the Lord, and He will grant you your heart's requests." -Ps 37:4
Praise: St. Frances became the first American to be canonized.
