MOTHERS
"The man replied, 'The woman whom You put here with me — she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it.' " ––Genesis 3:12

Most of us are very familiar with the story of the fall. Adam and Eve succumbed to temptation and thwarted God’s plan. Because our first parents were disobedient, we suffer the wounds of original sin. Shortsightedly, we could label Adam and Eve the ultimate scapegoats. But we and they are family! “The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living” (Gn 3:20). Have you pondered your lineage? Eve gave birth to us in the natural order — she is truly our ancestor. The trickery of the serpent, although frustrating, merely exposes human frailty. Are we any better than Eve? Jesus reminds us, “Let the man among you who has no sin be the first to cast a stone at her” (Jn 8:7).

Providentially, God the Father instituted a new master plan.  He desired to restore us to His grace and love, for He wants all “to be saved and come to know the truth” (1 Tm 2:4).  He chose a young virgin from Nazareth to help complete the plan. “The virgin’s name was Mary” (Lk 1:27). This new “woman” (see Gn 3:15) was destined to become the “new Eve.” In the spiritual order, Mary has given birth to “those who keep God’s commandments and give witness to Jesus”; we, as members of the Church, represent “the rest of her offspring” (see Rv 12:17).

Focus on Mary’s obedience, not Eve’s disobedience. Echo Mary and tell the Lord, “May it be done to me according to Your word” (see Lk 1:38, RNAB).

Prayer: Father, give me the grace to accept Mary as my mother (Jn 19:27) and always act so as to honor her (Ex 20:12).

Promise: "When Jesus took the wine, He said, 'Now it is finished.' Then He bowed His head, and delivered over His spirit." ––Jn 19:30

Praise: Mother Mary, you "gather your children, as a mother bird gathers her young under her wings" (see Mt 23:37).

May 31st Pentecost

Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us.

This is the day when the Holy Spirit came down in tongues of fire to infuse the apostles and disciples with
knowledge and truth.

Doing so, that they could start the church which has lasted for almost two thousand years guided by the Holy
Spirit.

Our church has had a lot of problems over the years, but still has been quided by You, and the Holy Spirit,
and so continues in the truth.

We have a holy church started and continued by God Himself.

Let us rejoice and proclaim our belief in the true church, by our love and giving to others.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday WOULD YOU DIE FOR PENTECOST?
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-5-31-en

"When the day of Pentecost came it found them gathered in one place." -Acts 2:1

Father Otto Rauschenbach, a Maryknoll missionary in South China, was killed by bandits on May 14, 1945. Because
of the war, Father Otto had to hide in the mountains. He knew that if he came out of hiding, he was risking his
life. Yet Father wanted to celebrate Pentecost with his people so he tried to return to his parish (cf Lk 22:15).
However, he was murdered before he got to his parish and before he could celebrate Pentecost Mass.

Would you risk your life to celebrate Pentecost? Do you believe that a new Pentecost is so essential for your
life that you would die for it? Pentecost is essential because, without the Holy Spirit of Pentecost, we:

* will not be united (see Gn 11:7ff; Acts 2:8ff) and the world will not believe in Jesus (Jn 17:21),
* will not prophesy, that is, we will not receive messages from God (Jl 3:1; Acts 2:17-18),
* will not pray as we ought (Rm 8:26),
* will not have the power to witness for Jesus (Acts 1:8),
* cannot say: "Jesus is Lord" (1 Cor 12:3),
* cannot please God (Rm 8:8), and
* will not have the Spirit's gifts or fruit (1 Cor 12:4ff; Gal 5:22ff).

We need Pentecost and we need a new Pentecost now. "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22).

Prayer: "Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from Your celestial home shed a ray of light divine! Come, Father of the
poor! Come, Source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine!" (Pentecost sequence)

Promise: "All of us have been given to drink of the one Spirit." -1 Cor 12:13

Praise: Praise You, Holy Spirit, for renewing the face of the earth! (Ps 104:30)

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER
"Paul invited the prominent men of the Jewish community to visit him." —Acts 28:17

Tomorrow is the great feast of Pentecost. The first Christian Pentecost was an international, multicultural event. People of many languages gathered to worship God. The Holy Spirit prompted the apostles to praise God publicly in other languages, and all the various groups of people understood them (Acts 2:6).

One reason for the great power and conversions at Pentecost was that many diverse people were gathered together (Acts 2:5-6). The Holy Spirit used the first Pentecost to unite people who had been separated. Since God is the same today as at the first Pentecost (Heb 13:8), He wants to bring the same unity.

Accordingly, God may want us to search out people not like ourselves with whom to spend our Pentecost, people of a different race, religion, or ethnic group. The Spirit didn't fill people individually and then bring them together after they were already converted. Rather, diverse people were gathered first, and then the Spirit miraculously brought unity (Acts 2:11).

Jesus will lead us toward Christian unity this Pentecost. Our business is to follow Him (Jn 21:22).

Prayer: Father, may I make every effort to build unity which has the Spirit as its origin and peace as its binding force (Eph 4:3).

Promise: "There are still many other things that Jesus did, yet if they were written about in detail, I doubt there would be room enough in the entire world to hold the books to record them." —Jn 21:25

Praise: St. Monica parish is truly catholic, multi-cultural, yet one in spirit.

ON TRIAL FOR THE GOSPEL
"I issued orders that he be kept in custody until I could send him to the emperor." —Acts 25:21

St. Paul's ongoing imprisonment featured a mockery of justice. Accusers charged him with nonsensical "crimes." He experienced interminable delays as he was handed from one authority to another. It seemed like Paul was "for nothing, uselessly," spending his strength (Is 49:4). Yet from an evangelistic standpoint, the aimless circumstances were not useless or aimless at all. As persecutions and mismanagement increased, so did Paul's opportunities to spread the Gospel, witness to Jesus, and evangelize. Paul wasn't frustrated or worn down, partly because the Holy Spirit mercifully gave Paul advance notice as he traveled "from city to city that chains and hardship" awaited him (Acts 20:23).

Paul prepared his soul for the upcoming trials. He decided to give evidence of his love for Jesus (Jn 21:15). He evangelized those insulated from hearing the Gospel, such as Agrippa, Festus, and the Emperor. He realized that without his testimony as a prisoner, these people might never hear the Gospel.

Paul heeded the Spirit's warning. He purified himself (Acts 21:26). He testified to some disciples: "I am prepared to die for the name of the Lord Jesus" (see Acts 21:13). When Paul's hearings arrived, he could testify powerfully to the Resurrection of Jesus.

How about you? What warnings has the Spirit given you during this Pentecost Novena? Will you receive the Spirit even though hardships await you? Will you be ready to tell those you meet about Jesus? Will you love Him enough to feed His sheep? (Jn 21:17)

Prayer: Jesus, may all prisoners who read this receive the Spirit on Pentecost and joyfully witness to You. Bless them with hope.

Promise: "His kingdom rules over all." —Ps 103:19

Praise: Pope St. Paul VI turned down an opportunity to be a cardinal. God raised the humble bishop to both cardinal and pope within 10 years.

TO THE CYNICAL - One Bread, One Body, 05/28/2020

Thursday, May 28, 2020, Pentecost Novena - Day 7

Acts 22:30; 23:6-11
Psalm 16:1-2, 5, 7-11
John 17:20-26

TO THE CYNICAL
"I pray that they may be [one] in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me." —John 17:21

Many worldly people, especially young people, are extremely naive about unity. They even think they can "make love" and make unity by their own power. They think they can make a marriage work without a commitment to the Lord, without the Church, and often without prayer. Most of these naive, worldly people are soon crushed in their broken relationships.

As brokenness and unfaithfulness become a pattern in their lives, they despair of love and unity and become cynical about even their possibility. Thus, when a crushed, broken worldly person meets true love and unity, they can't believe it. They deny it and wait for it to unmask. However, if this marriage, family, church, or community is truly one in love and unity, the worldly person is strongly challenged to repent, forgive, and believe in Jesus Who will baptize them in the Spirit of unity (see Mk 1:8). If they accept the Lord's salvation, these broken, worldly people then have a new Pentecost where barriers against communication are broken down (see Acts 2:6ff). They are baptized in one Spirit into one body (1 Cor 12:13). They are of one mind and heart with their brothers and sisters in Christ (Acts 4:32). They begin to be one as Jesus and the Father are one (Jn 17:21).

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit of unity to the most cynical.

Promise: "I bless the Lord Who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me." —Ps 16:7

Praise: After surviving a heart attack, John moved from being a lukewarm Christian to a fervently devoted follower of Jesus.

PROJECTING PENTECOST - One Bread, One Body, 05/27/2020

Wednesday, May 27, 2020, St. Augustine of Canterbury
Pentecost Novena - Day 6

Acts 20:28-38
Psalm 68:29-30, 33-36

PROJECTING PENTECOST
"Paul knelt down with them all and prayed. They began to weep without restraint, throwing their arms around him and kissing him, for they were deeply distressed to hear that they would never see his face again." —Acts 20:36-38

When St. Paul knew that he was seeing the leaders of the church of Ephesus for the last time, he had no regrets, for he "never shrunk from announcing to [them] God's design in its entirety" (Acts 20:27).

Imagine the occasion when you will see your children, spouse, or brothers and sisters in Christ for the last time. Will you have any regrets? Will you be ready to meet the Lord? Will your marriage be a magnificent sign of Christ's love for the Church? Will your children be faith-filled Catholic Christians? Will you have impacted our culture with the Gospel? Will you have fully completed God's mission for you on this earth?

Many of us have so much unfinished business that our lives seem hopeless. In this case, the last time we see our loved ones will be tragic unless the Lord does many miracles. This is exactly what He will do by giving us the Holy Spirit in a new Pentecost.

If we look ahead to the end of our brief time on earth, we may thirst for the Holy Spirit (see Jn 7:37ff) and desire the fullness of the Holy Spirit more than we desire anything else, even our pleasures. Then we will be getting close to throwing open the doors of our lives to the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, on this sixth day of the Pentecost novena, may I realize that I am doomed without new life in the Spirit.

Promise: "Consecrate them by means of truth — 'Your word is truth.' " —Jn 17:17

Praise: Pope St. Gregory the Great sent missionary monks to England at the end of the Sixth Century. St. Augustine was appointed as their superior and became the first Archbishop of Canterbury.

HAVE SPIRIT OR HALF-SPIRIT? - One Bread, One Body, 05/26/2020

HAVE SPIRIT OR HALF-SPIRIT?
"I am on my way to Jerusalem, compelled by the Spirit and not knowing what will happen to me there — except that the Holy Spirit has been warning me from city to city that chains and hardships await me." —Acts 20:22-23

The Holy Spirit will touch, bless, and enlighten us. He can be like a refreshing breeze, a warm fire, and cool waters. The Holy Spirit will also compel, warn (Acts 20:22-23), and convict us of our sins (Jn 16:8). He can be like a strong, driving wind (Acts 2:2), a purifying, consuming fire (see Heb 12:29), and raging rivers of living waters (Jn 7:38). The Holy Spirit will be ever so gentle, yet will also shake us by His almighty power. The Spirit will give us what we've always wanted and what we've always avoided. We both want and don't want the Holy Spirit. It is a peaceful and fearful thing to receive the Holy Spirit.

We feel like receiving half of the Spirit, but the Spirit doesn't come that way. For five days in this Pentecost novena, we have been praying to resolve this dilemma. Our sin, selfishness, and our fear are strong, but God's grace is stronger (see 2 Cor 12:9). By faith, repent, obey, and surrender. Cry out: "Come, Holy Spirit!"

Prayer: Father, "may it be done unto me according to Your word" (Lk 1:38, RNAB).

Promise: "Eternal life is this: to know You, the only true God, and Him Whom You have sent, Jesus Christ." —Jn 17:3

Praise: In obedience to his confessor, St. Philip became a priest at nearly thirty-six. St. Philip was known for his winning personality and joyful spirit. He founded the Oratorio of Divine Love — the Oratorian priests.

GROWING PAINS
"As Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came down on them and they began to speak in tongues and to utter prophecies." —Acts 19:6

Most of you reading this have the Holy Spirit living and working within you through your Baptisms and Confirmations. So for you this Pentecost novena should result in growth in the Spirit. However, human beings, even Christians, usually don't have a strong desire to grow. This is why the Lord commands us to grow (e.g. Eph 4:15; 2 Pt 3:18). Otherwise, we wouldn't try to grow. Nevertheless, we may even ignore the Lord's commands for us to grow and thereby disobey Him.

The need for growth implies that we have not yet fully matured and developed. It takes humility to accept this. We must crucify our pride in order to be willing to grow. Growth also implies sacrifice and "growing pains." Therefore, we must die to ourselves in order to grow.

Twelve men of Ephesus grew in a few hours from being non-Christians to being Christians filled with the Spirit. "They began to speak in tongues and to utter prophecies" (Acts 19:6). They grew so much so quickly. They were humble enough to admit their ignorance about the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:2) and to listen to St. Paul's invitation to Jesus. May we imitate the attitude and growth of these Ephesian men.

Prayer: Father, on this fourth day of the Pentecost novena, break through my pride and selfishness.

Promise: "I have overcome the world." —Jn 16:33

Praise: Pope St. Gregory VII fiercely resisted any attack on the liberty of the Church. For this he suffered and finally died in exile.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE ULTIMATE CALL TO PRAYER
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-5-24-en

"Within a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." -Acts 1:5

Jesus tried to give us the Holy Spirit three times. When He died on Calvary He gave over His Spirit (Jn 19:30),
although only a few were present to receive the Spirit. Jesus' second attempt to give us the Holy Spirit was on
the first resurrection night. He breathed on His apostles and commanded: "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). It
seems that they only partially received the Spirit because they stayed locked up in the upper room. The Church
received the fullness of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, after having devoted themselves to nine days of prayer
(Acts 1:14).

Prayer is one of the keys to receiving the Holy Spirit. "If [we], with all [our] sins, know how to give [our]
children good things, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him" (Lk 11:13).
However, Jesus' followers have traditionally had difficulty spending one hour a day with Him in prayer
(see Mt 26:40). Like St. Martha, we are sometimes upset with others who pray and with the Lord Who calls them to
pray (see Lk 10:40ff). We must honestly admit those times that we are not praying people, praying families, or
praying couples. However, prayer is necessary to receive the Spirit.

The Ascension of Jesus is the most powerful and successful call to prayer in the Bible. After the Ascension,
apostles who didn't pray an hour in the garden of Gethsemane devoted themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14).
On this holy day of the Ascension, the Lord offers us a special invitation to pray and a gift to pray. Accept the
invitation, pray, and receive the Spirit.

Prayer: Father, may the next week of prayer be the best in my life. Jesus, teach me to pray in the Spirit
(see Lk 11:1).

Promise: "Know that I am with you always." -Mt 28:20

Praise: "He went to heaven and is at God's right hand, with angelic rulers and powers subjected to Him"
(1 Pt 3:22).

OPEN-HEART SURGERY
Apollos established "from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah." —Acts 18:28

While in the city of Ephesus, Apollos unpacked the Old Testament Scriptures that referred to Jesus and established that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah (Acts 18:28). In so doing, Apollos imitated Jesus, Who, while walking on the road to Emmaus, unpacked the Old Testament Scriptures "beginning with Moses and all the prophets" and "interpreted for them every passage of Scripture which referred to Him" (Lk 24:27).

As we progress through the Pentecost Novena, we increase our thirst to receive the Holy Spirit. A great way to open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit is to review the Scriptures which reveal Jesus' identity. The Church has been doing this throughout the daily and Sunday Eucharistic readings during the seasons of Lent and Easter. To help you receive the Holy Spirit more deeply this Pentecost, take some time today and next week to look back over the key Scriptures of Lent and Easter. Focus especially on the readings of Holy Week, which summarize the Scriptures that prove that Jesus is the Messiah (Acts 18:28). May the Word of God open your heart to receive the Holy Spirit in a new and life-changing way (see Lk 24:32) this Pentecost.

Prayer: Father, stir into flame the Holy Spirit in my life today and next week (2 Tm 1:6).

Promise: "The Father already loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God." —Jn 16:27

Praise: Praying the Pentecost Novena led to Jane's most Spirit-filled Pentecost yet.

THE SPIRIT OF BOLDNESS - One Bread, One Body, 05/22/2020

THE SPIRIT OF BOLDNESS
"Do not be afraid." —Acts 18:9

It's likely God wouldn't have told St. Paul to not be afraid unless Paul was actually afraid of something. The city of Corinth must have been a rough place, for by this time in Paul's life, he had already been stoned, apparently to death, at Lystra (Acts 14:19ff), and then stood back up and returned to town. He'd been jailed and beaten at Philippi, but miraculously freed by an earthquake. You'd think Paul would not fear anything at this point. But fear is a strong temptation, even to veteran disciples.

The Pentecost Novena begins today. We beg the Lord for nine days to send us the Holy Spirit in a new way at Pentecost. One of the primary effects of the Holy Spirit biblically is bold speech and bold actions. The fear of the apostles locked in the upper room was driven out by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The perfect love of the Spirit casts out all fear (see 1 Jn 4:18). The Spirit-filled apostles burst out of the locked room and into the public squares. They boldly proclaimed Jesus and brought three thousand people to the Lord in one day.

Jesus tells St. Paul and us: "Do not be afraid" (Acts 18:9). The Outreach Leader for Presentation Ministries is fond of saying: "Fear is merely False Evidence Appearing Real." Receive the Holy Spirit. Be delivered of fear.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to turn any cowardice we may have into boldness (2 Tm 1:7-8).

Promise: "Your grief will be turned to joy." —Jn 16:20

Praise: St. Rita was a wife and mother. After she became a widow and her two sons died, Rita joined the Augustinian nuns in Cascia. Together with Saint Jude, she is a patron saint of impossible cases.

"PERFECT STORM" - One Bread, One Body, 05/21/2020

Thursday, May 21, 2020, St. Christopher Magallanes

Acts 18:1-8
Psalm 98:1-4

"PERFECT STORM"
"They opposed him and insulted him." —Acts 18:6

As I write this, a storm has just blown in. There's a strong, driving wind outside (cf Acts 2:2). Lightning is darting throughout the sky and powerful blasts of thunder shake the windows. I hear sirens from fire trucks, police cars, and a tornado warning. It seems like this storm is turning the town upside down.

Tomorrow we begin praying the Pentecost Novena, nine days of fervent prayer to prepare for receiving a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. What storm will result if you receive the Holy Spirit during or after this Novena? It may mean that:

  • you must leave your job, as did St. Joseph (Mt 2:14),
  • you start a new job, which becomes the launching pad for a new ministry (Acts 18:3, 5),
  • you pack up and move where the Spirit leads (Acts 18:1),
  • you lose your spiritual mentor (Jn 16:17) and have to step out and take leadership, as did the apostles,
  • you will weep, mourn, and grieve (Jn 16:20),
  • you step out in bold obedience to the Holy Spirit, and because of that, your church is instantly divided (Acts 18:4ff),
  • talented leaders are converted and raised up (Acts 18:8),
  • many hear the Word of God and come to believe in Jesus (Acts 18:8), or
  • you "shake" off the spiritual and physical debris left by the storm (Acts 18:6), and, undaunted, continue bearing fruit in the power of the Spirit (see Mt 7:24-25).

"Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22), and let Him "stir" up your world (2 Tm 1:6).

Prayer: Father, may I be more concerned with being separated from the Holy Spirit than I am with having to endure upheaval.

Promise: "Your grief will be turned into joy." —Jn 16:20

Praise: St. Christopher continued to spread the Good News despite government persecution. In the end, it cost him his life.

LOVE IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
"When He comes, however, being the Spirit of truth He will guide you to all truth." —John 16:13

Life in Christ is a life of love, for Jesus is Love (see 1 Jn 4:8, 16). Love requires freedom. We cannot force people to love us. Freedom requires knowledge. Without some knowledge, we cannot freely decide to love. Therefore, knowledge of the truth is very important because truth is an absolute prerequisite for love. The Lord "wants all men to be saved and come to know the truth" (1 Tm 2:4).

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love (Gal 5:22) because the Spirit gives us freedom, which requires the Spirit to guide us to all truth (Jn 16:13). The Holy Spirit will open us to all the truth we need for the freedom to love the Lord with all our hearts, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to love even our enemies, and to actually live in love (see Jn 15:9). The Holy Spirit, by being the Spirit of truth (Jn 16:13), produces the fruit of love in our lives.

The Lord says: "My people perish for want of knowledge!" (Hos 4:6) It is not that we are saved by knowledge but that knowledge of the truth makes it possible to have faith in and love for the Lord. This is what saves us. Consequently, we need the Holy Spirit of truth and love to be as active as possible in our lives. Come, Holy Spirit!

Prayer: Father, show me the relationship between truth, freedom, and love.

Promise: "He has set the day on which He is going to 'judge the world with justice' through a Man He has appointed — One Whom He has endorsed in the sight of all by raising Him from the dead." —Acts 17:31

Praise: An orphan, St. Bernardine was raised by a godly aunt. He became a Franciscan and was ordained a priest. He preached the loving mercy of God. Bernardine devised a symbol, IHS, the first three letters of Jesus name in Greek, in Gothic letters, on a blazing sun, to promote devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus.

GOD IN THE WORKPLACE - One Bread, One Body, 05/19/2020

GOD IN THE WORKPLACE
"The jailer was given instructions to guard them well. Upon receipt of these instructions, he put them in maximum security, going so far as to chain their feet to a stake." —Acts 16:23-24

The jailer of Paul and Silas did his job to the best of his ability. He may have even gone above and beyond in his job performance, "going so far as to chain [the feet of Paul and Silas] to a stake." That was probably unnecessary when they were already in maximum security. However, the jailer planned to do his job well.

An earthquake shook the jailer's prison compound, and "all the doors flew open and everyone's chains were pulled loose" (Acts 16:26). This was the absolute worst disaster the jailer could have ever imagined. A Roman jailer paid for escaped prisoners with his own life. The jailer knew he was going to die at the hands of his bosses, so "he drew his sword to kill himself" (Acts 16:27).

That's when the jailer met God in the workplace. His most notorious prisoners pleaded with him to spare his life. They also prevented all the other prisoners from escaping. He knew this was impossible! Only God could have transformed his worst nightmare into his greatest day on the job. The jailer was convicted at the depth of his heart and humbly begged for salvation (Acts 16:30ff).

The jailer was an expert at his job. Yet God showed him His omnipotence and mercy in the midst of his area of expertise, and the jailer recognized in an instant the God of the impossible. May we likewise recognize God moving in our workplace, receive His mercy, and spread His saving love to our coworkers.

Prayer: "In my work, Lord, be glorified..."

Promise: "The Lord will complete what He has done for me." —Ps 138:8

Praise: Albert started a Bible study during his lunch break at work.

HOME IMPROVEMENT
"After she and her household had been baptized, she extended us an invitation: 'If you are convinced that I believe in the Lord, come and stay at my house.' " —Acts 16:15

After her conversion, the first words of Lydia, the first convert of the Western world, involved making her home a base for evangelization. Jesus stayed at home for about thirty years before His three years of public ministry. The Church met primarily in homes for its first three hundred years. The Church fathers taught that the Christian home is a "domestic church" (see Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1656, 1666). The Lord has clearly and repeatedly made the statement that the home is foundational and central to Christianity.

Consequently, Satan tries to destroy our homes through abortion, contraception, promiscuity, unfaithfulness, and divorce. He attacks the home through TV, the Internet, and other forms of media. Satan makes it seem economically necessary to work away from home for most of our waking hours. He has been largely successful in getting meals, education, recreation, medical care, and business taken out of the home. The home is then relegated to a boarding house where residents merely sleep and entertain themselves.

By the power of the risen Christ and with wisdom from the Holy Spirit, let us restore our homes to their crucial place in God's plan of salvation. Risen Lord Jesus, in these last days of Easter, raise our homes from the ruins of our culture of death.

Prayer: Father, protect me from being brainwashed.

Promise: "When the Paraclete comes, the Spirit of truth Who comes from the Father — and Whom I Myself will send from the Father — He will bear witness on My behalf. You must bear witness as well." —Jn 15:26-27

Praise: Pope St. John I made peace between the emperors of the East and West.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE WORLD READS YOUR HEART
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-5-17-en

"Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts." -1 Peter 3:15, RNAB

Moments after I heard the above passage from the second reading proclaimed at Mass, the priest announced the Gospel
reading, and everyone traced the sign of the cross on their hearts, as well as their foreheads and lips. Everyone
at Mass was asking the Lord to sanctify their hearts to receive the Gospel and act upon it.

When we have a sanctified heart to enthrone Christ as Lord (1 Pt 3:15), our lives cannot help but reflect the joy
of the Lord regardless of our life's circumstances. We will speak out of the abundance of our heart (Lk 6:45), a
heart full of love for Jesus (Jn 14:21). The love of God has been poured out in our sanctified hearts through the
Holy Spirit (Rm 5:5). In Jesus, we have been given a new heart to love God (Ez 36:26). No one can take this joy
from our heart (Jn 16:22).

Has anyone asked you lately the reason for your hope and joy? Why would anyone ask us this? (1 Pt 3:15) It's
because our life in Christ and our love for Him cannot be kept inside our joyful heart. His love always grows in a
sanctified heart, which cannot contain it. His outpoured, overflowing love runs over, leaps up within us, and flows
out from us (Jn 7:38; 4:14) to refresh a world that's parched, lifeless, and without the water of the Holy Spirit
(see Ps 63:2).

Sanctify Jesus as Lord in your heart (1 Pt 3:15). Then people won't be able to refrain from asking you the reason
for this hope of yours. Speak of your love for Jesus out of the abundance of God's love in your heart (Lk 6:45).
Refresh the hearts of a hurting world in Christ (Phlm 20).

Prayer: Father, sanctify my heart. Refine it of impurity (Mal 3:3).

Promise: "The rejoicing in that town rose to fever pitch." -Acts 8:8

Praise: Lord Jesus, you are no "imposter" (see Mt 27:63). We praise You for obediently fulfilling Your messianic
mission.
