THE HEALING CHURCH
"I will come and cure him." -Matthew 8:7
Before Holy Communion, we Catholics say: "Only say the word, and I shall be healed" (see Mt 8:8). At this most precious moment in our lives, we remind ourselves of Jesus' healing power. Before the Holy Eucharist touches our mouth, we say: "I shall be healed." We've said it thousands of times.
Obviously, we Catholics believe in healing. We even have a special sacrament focusing on healing serious physical problems. For a saint to be canonized, a number of miraculous healings attributed to him or her must be scientifically proven. The largest healing service in the world is celebrated annually in Catholic Churches on February 3rd, St. Blase Day. Lourdes is the healing center of the world. Our sacramentals, especially holy water, are for healing. Our relics are similar to the healing ministry of St. Paul (Acts 19:12).
Traditional Catholics can appear fanatical, even to other healing churches. Nobody but us uses water, candles, bones, and pieces of cloth to heal. Our traditions proclaim loud and clear: We are a healing Church.
Prayer: Father, may I be a traditional Catholic and an enthusiastic healer.
Promise: "Rise up, shrill in the night, at the beginning of every watch; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord; lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your little ones." -Lam 2:19
Praise: The First Martyrs of Rome have healed countless others through their lives and deaths. They came from all classes of Roman society - soldiers, peasants, nobility, and merchants.

LOVE THE CHURCH (Eph 5:25) - One Bread, One Body, 6/29/2012

LOVE THE CHURCH (Eph 5:25)
"I will build My Church." -Matthew 16:18
The Church is founded on the apostles (Eph 2:20; Rv 21:14), especially on St. Peter, the first Pope, and on St. Paul, an apostle and the first Christian missionary. Therefore, today's solemn feast day of Saints Peter and Paul is a celebration in which we thank the Lord for His great gift to us of the Church.
The Church is the body of Christ (see e.g. Eph 1:22-23) and the bride of Christ (Eph 5:25-27; Rv 22:17). The Church was founded by Jesus Himself (Mt 16:18). It belongs to Jesus and is in the process of being built by Jesus (Mt 16:18). Jesus calls the Church "My Church." Jesus has given Peter, his successors, and the Church the keys of the kingdom (Mt 16:19). The Church has Jesus' authority to bind and loose and to attack and conquer the gates of hell (Mt 16:18-19). It is "God's household" and "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15).
The Church is "the fullness of Him Who fills the universe in all its parts" (Eph 1:23). Jesus exalts the Church by identifying with her. He proclaims that, if we listen to the Church, we listen to Him (Lk 10:16) and, if we persecute the Church, we persecute Him (Acts 9:4). Considering what the Lord has revealed to us about His Church, we must love the Church as Jesus does and lay down our lives for her (Eph 5:25).
Prayer: Jesus, give me Your heart for the Church. I will accept Your grace to forgive those members of the Church who have hurt me.
Promise: "Peter was thus detained in prison, while the church prayed fervently to God on his behalf." -Acts 12:5
Praise: "The Holy Spirit descended upon all who were listening to Peter's message" (Acts 10:44).
(For a related teaching, order our tape The Church in God's Plan" on audio AV 67-3 or video V-67.)

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES? - One Bread, One Body, 6/28/2012
Thursday, June 28, 2012, St. Irenaeus
2 Kings 24:8-17, Psalm 79:1-5, 8-9, Matthew 7:21-29

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES?
"None of those who cry out, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven." -Matthew 7:21
"To the eyes of faith no evil is graver than sin and nothing has worse consequences for sinners themselves, for the Church, and for the whole world" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1488). If we don't do the Father's will, Jesus will solemnly declare to us: "I never knew you. Out of My sight, you evildoers!" (Mt 7:23) If we don't hear and do God's Word (see Jas 1:22), our lives will collapse and be completely ruined (Mt 7:27). Some of the consequences of not obeying the Lord are:
* captivity (see 2 Kgs 24:12),
* slavery (Rm 6:16),
* spiritual blindness (1 Jn 2:11),
* death (Rm 6:23), and
* hell (Jn 5:29).
In addition to these tragedies, by sinning we continue to crucify Jesus (Heb 6:6). Through sin, we hold Jesus up to contempt (Heb 6:6). We reject Him, the only One Who has never rejected us (Jn 6:37). When we decide to sin, we render Jesus' death void for us (1 Cor 1:17) instead of thanking Him for loving us even to death on the cross.
However, when we repent of our sins, we restore our relationship with the Lord. Then He takes even the most messed up lives and works them together for the good of those who love Him (Rm 8:28). Resist temptation. Obey the Lord. Repent. Love Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I die rather than sin (see Heb 12:4).
Promise: "Remember not against us the iniquities of the past; may Your compassion quickly come to us, for we are brought very low." -Ps 79:8
Praise: St. Irenaeus wrote several works opposing heresy, and finally suffered martyrdom for love of Jesus.
(For a related teaching, order our tape "Effects of Sin" on audio AV 81-3 or video V-81.)

FRUIT INSPECTION - One Bread, One Body, 6/27/2012
Wednesday, June 27, 2012, St. Cyril of Alexandria

FRUIT INSPECTION
"Any sound tree bears good fruit, while a decayed tree bears bad fruit." -Matthew 7:17
This week we conclude three weeks of reading and praying the Sermon on the Mount. The world, even much of the Christian world, explicitly denies Jesus' commands in the Sermon on the Mount. For example, our society believes in a pleasure-seeking lifestyle, not in voluntary poverty (Mt 5:3). We aren't nearly as concerned as Jesus about looking lustfully at someone (Mt 5:28). How could we stockpile nuclear weapons if we were concerned with loving our enemies? (Mt 5:44) Most people don't believe in the Sermon on the Mount. Who's right - Jesus or our society?
Jesus said: "You will know them by their deeds" (Mt 7:16). "You can tell a tree by its fruit" (Mt 7:20). The fruit of not living God's way is broken lives, broken marriages, and broken hearts, a world overshadowed by the mushroom cloud of nuclear war, a lifestyle that enslaves, and sexual bondage rather than true love. By its fruits, we know our society is wrong, and Jesus' words in the Sermon on the Mount were right all along.
Prayer: Father, may I take the Sermon on the Mount as literally as Jesus did.
Promise: "The King made a covenant before the Lord that they would follow Him and observe His ordinances, statutes and decrees with their whole hearts and souls, thus reviving the terms of the covenant which were written in this book." -2 Kgs 23:3
Praise: St. Cyril was a difficult man to work with. God used this difficult man to achieve the difficult task of defeating heresy.
(Grow in the Lord by reading the Bible each day. A tape series that may help you is "An Introduction to each Book of the Bible". It is thirty-two audio tapes starting with AV 21-1, "Matthew and Mark", or seventeen video tapes starting with V-21.)

A SOLDIER FOR CHRIST
"That night the angel of the Lord went forth and struck down one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. Early the next morning, there they were, all the corpses of the dead." -2 Kings 19:35
Traditionally, nations have waged war by acts of physical violence coupled with prayers to their gods for victory. This is how most of the battles of the Old Testament were waged (see 2 Kgs 19:17-18; 2 Kgs 3:26-27), and how almost all battles are still waged today.
Occasionally, a war was waged without any physical violence on the part of the winning army. Moses (Ex 14:14), Jehoshaphat (2 Chr 20:17), and Hezekiah fought such wars (2 Kgs 19:35). In these battles, although the winning army did not kill the enemy, nonetheless, the enemy was destroyed either by their own infighting, an angel, or God Himself.
In the New Testament, we have a radically different kind of warfare. This is perfectly expressed by Jesus' death on the cross. Jesus did not do any violence to His enemies. He was like a lamb led to the slaughter (see Is 53:7). Jesus did not even use His prerogative to command legions of angels to defeat His enemies (Mt 26:53). Rather, Jesus won the ultimate victory over Satan, sin, and violence by loving His enemies and letting them kill Him. Which kind of warfare do you believe in, B.C. or A.D., non-Christian or Christian?
Prayer: Jesus, may I let You fight my battles Your way - the way of the cross.
Promise: "Treat others the way you would have them treat you." -Mt 7:12
Praise: When his wife died, George turned to the Lord and understood God's promise of eternal life.

THE CULT OF SECULAR HUMANISM - One Bread, One Body, 6/25/2012

THE CULT OF SECULAR HUMANISM
"...because they venerated other gods." -2 Kings 17:7
When we read in the Bible about false gods, we picture weird-looking statues in a strange temple filled with fanatical, demon-possessed aborigines. False gods don't necessarily have anything to do with statues, temples, or foreign cultures. For example, secular humanism is a religion that bows down before the god of self. There is no emphasis on statues or temples. The people involved in this religion do not appear primitive, but sophisticated.
Secular humanism adores a variety of gods: the gods of sex, pleasure, money, lifestyle, military power, scientific technology, capitalism, and communism. Some secular humanists are atheists, while others even acknowledge the existence of the true God. Nevertheless, for practical purposes, all secular humanists put man first and therefore put man in the place of god.
It's so easy to get involved in the cult of secular humanism. If we get caught up in it, we will go the way of all who worship false gods. We will be manipulated by Satan, become as perverse and empty as the gods we worship (Ps 115:8), and perish. The Lord is patient and merciful. He's giving us a chance to repent and get the plank out of our eyes (Mt 7:5). However, we have already missed countless opportunities to repent. Time eventually runs out. Repent now.
Prayer: Jesus, I repent of idolatry and being involved with the cult of secular humanism. I give my life to You and acknowledge You as Lord and God.
Promise: "Your verdict on others will be the verdict passed on you. The measure with which you measure will be used to measure you." -Mt 7:2
Praise: Jesus instantly healed an elderly woman of a swallowing problem when Sally prayed with her.

PM eNewsletter birth of St. John the Baptist
June 24th birth of St. John the Baptist
Today Your church celebrates the birth of St. John the baptist, the last of the old testament
prophets.
St. John was a voice in the desert, crying out to prepare the way of the Lord.
Help us Lord to always prepare to know, love, and serve You in everything.
Help us proclaim You by word and action, and let all of our actions show others the Christ we
have within us.
And let us be vessals of love and peace.
Thank You for St. John and for Your church.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday FREEDOM-FIGHTER
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=6/24/2012
"Look for the One Who comes after me." -Acts 13:25
When John the Baptizer saw Jesus, he didn't say: "There's Jesus" or "There's the Savior" or
"There's the Messiah." Rather, he said: "There is the Lamb of God" (Jn 1:29). The Church does
the same thing right before Holy Communion. The priest holds up the Host, but he doesn't say:
"This is Communion" or "This is Jesus." Instead, he proclaims: "This is the Lamb of God."
The Jewish people think of a lamb differently than we do. For them, a lamb is primarily the
Passover lamb, the ultimate symbol of freedom (Ex 12:3). This lamb was used by the Lord to
free the entire Israelite nation from hundreds of years of slavery.
Today we celebrate the birthday of John the Baptizer. John still points us to Jesus, the Lamb
of God. When we believe in Jesus, we will be freed from discouragement (see Is 49:4ff) and
spiritual paralysis (see Lk 1:64) by being freed from sin, the cause of these evils (Acts 13:24).
We don't have to wait till the Fourth of July for Independence Day. We can have Independence
Day, that is "Freedom Day," today when we repent and believe in Jesus, the Lamb of God. "If
the Son frees you, you will really be free" (Jn 8:36).
Prayer: Father, use me to free others from sin, Satan, and hell.
Promise: "At that moment his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in
praise of God." -Lk 1:64
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Lamb of God (Jn 1:29). All honor, glory, and blessings be to You forever.

YOUTH AND JOY FREEDOM
"LASTING JOY"
To have lasting joy we need to live in love and truth. We need to live in God.
JOY AND FORGIVENESS
Dear young people, have frequent recourse to the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation!
It is the sacrament of joy rediscovered. Ask the Holy Spirit for the light needed to
acknowledge your sinfulness and ask for God's forgiveness.
"MISSIONARIES OF JOY"
... I ... encourage you to be missionaries of joy... Go and tell other young people about
your joy at finding the precious treasure which is Jesus Himself.

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

FREEDOM-FIGHTER - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2012
Sunday, June 24, 2012, Birth of St. John the Baptizer
Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80

FREEDOM-FIGHTER
"Look for the One Who comes after me." -Acts 13:25
When John the Baptizer saw Jesus, he didn't say: "There's Jesus" or "There's the Savior" or "There's the Messiah." Rather, he said: "There is the Lamb of God" (Jn 1:29). The Church does the same thing right before Holy Communion. The priest holds up the Host, but he doesn't say: "This is Communion" or "This is Jesus." Instead, he proclaims: "This is the Lamb of God."
The Jewish people think of a lamb differently than we do. For them, a lamb is primarily the Passover lamb, the ultimate symbol of freedom (Ex 12:3). This lamb was used by the Lord to free the entire Israelite nation from hundreds of years of slavery.
Today we celebrate the birthday of John the Baptizer. John still points us to Jesus, the Lamb of God. When we believe in Jesus, we will be freed from discouragement (see Is 49:4ff) and spiritual paralysis (see Lk 1:64) by being freed from sin, the cause of these evils (Acts 13:24).
We don't have to wait till the Fourth of July for Independence Day. We can have Independence Day, that is "Freedom Day," today when we repent and believe in Jesus, the Lamb of God. "If the Son frees you, you will really be free" (Jn 8:36).
Prayer: Father, use me to free others from sin, Satan, and hell.
Promise: "At that moment his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God." -Lk 1:64
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Lamb of God (Jn 1:29). All honor, glory, and blessings be to You forever.
(For related teaching, order our book, The Truth Will Set You Free".)

GOD, THE ATM MACHINE? - One Bread, One Body, 6/23/2012
Saturday, June 23, 2012
2 Chronicles 24:17-25, Psalm 89:4-5, 29-34, Matthew 6:24-34

GOD, THE ATM MACHINE?
"Seek first His kingship over you, His way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides." -Matthew 6:33
Many of us stock our pantry shelves with groceries. We fill our closets with clothes. We fill our bank account with money. By building up stores of clothes, food, and savings, we must be perpetually careful that we don't overstep the bounds of prudence and make the storehouse our provider rather than God.
When we rely on our supplies instead of God, we risk turning God into an ATM machine which we approach only to make a withdrawal when we truly are in need of something. No one has a relationship with an ATM machine. They simply approach the machine impersonally on a transaction basis. No one thanks the ATM machine for dispensing money; no one loves the machine for satisfying a request.
God works on a daily-bread basis (Ex 16:4; Mt 6:11). A big component of this daily-bread provision is the relationship with God which grows daily in intimacy and trust. To approach God only in time of need would be like a spouse who only approached his or her partner when the desire for intimacy arose, but avoided them otherwise. That approach is exploiting and self-centered, rather than self-giving, ever-increasing in love, and constantly present.
Are we subtly allowing the things of the world to displace God as Provider? Trust God alone. Detach yourselves from the things of this world. Love the Lord and put your lives in His hands.
Prayer: Father, may I have no love for "the things that the world affords" (1 Jn 2:15). I will trust You every day for my needs.
Promise: "If God can clothe in such splendor the grass of the field, which blooms today and is thrown on the fire tomorrow, will He not provide much more for you, O weak in faith!" -Mt 6:30
Praise: Margaret prays daily for the salvation of her children and grandchildren.

FIRST HEAVENLY BANK
"Do not lay up for yourselves an earthly treasure. Moths and rust corrode; thieves break in and steal." -Matthew 6:19
The real estate market sinks and people lose tens of thousands of dollars in home value. The stock market plunges because of some unrealized fear, a computer programming glitch, or a full moon, and people lose years of savings. Scam artists defraud the elderly of their life savings. Thieves steal people's identities and pilfer thousands of dollars. Natural disasters destroy crops and homes. A coworker of mine once lost $100,000 in a single day when a stock went bad.
These are but a few examples of modern-day moths, rust, and thieves (Mt 6:19). If our treasure is based on worldly goods, we're setting ourselves up for a fall. God alone is our Provider (Phil 4:19), our Security (Ps 4:9), and our Treasure (Mt 13:44). What great and practical news it is to hear that we can store up heavenly treasure that cannot be plundered! (Mt 6:19-20) We set our hearts on what is in heaven (Col 3:1-3), for where our treasure is, there our hearts will be (Mt 6:21).
Jesus commands us to build a spiritual bank account, but let's take it a step further. Let's purify our motives beyond prospering spiritually. Let's abandon our all to the Lord, not keeping count of our growing spiritual treasure, but dedicating it all to Him out of love (Rv 4:10). Give Him your all, and His all will be yours.
Prayer: Father, I will treasure You every day in my heart (Lk 2:19).
Promise: "Where your treasure is, there your heart is also." -Mt 6:21
Praise: St. Paulinus founded a monastery, and then became bishop of his hometown.

RAISE YOUR VOICE
Elisha "wrought many marvels by his mere word." -Sirach 48:12
When we say what God wants us to say, our words:
* are "as a flaming furnace" (Sir 48:1). They purify those who listen to them as fire purifies gold (see 1 Pt 1:7; Lk 24:32),
* can shut the heavens (Sir 48:3), stop evil (Mt 16:19), and destroy kings (Sir 48:6),
* can bring down fire (Sir 48:3), move mountains (Mt 17:20), raise the dead (Sir 48:5), and loose the works of God (Mt 16:19),
* can bring anointing to kings and prophets (Sir 48:8),
* can "put an end to wrath before the day of the Lord" (Sir 48:10),
* can "turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons" (Sir 48:10),
* can re-establish the Church (see Sir 48:10), and
* can be like the words of Elijah and Elisha - only much more powerful (Mt 11:11; Jn 14:12).
Your words can be this powerful, anointed, and anointing because "you yourselves will not be the speakers; the Spirit of your Father will be speaking in you" (Mt 10:20). Speak the Word of God. See the grace, power, and glory of God!
Prayer: Father, open my ears to hear You so I can open my mouth in Your name (see Is 50:4).
Promise: "If you forgive the faults of others, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours. If you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive you." -Mt 6:14-15
Praise: St. Aloysius renounced an inheritance so as to follow Jesus (see Lk 9:59-60). He devoted himself to serving God until he died at age twenty-four.

RELAY RACE
"He picked up Elijah's mantle." -2 Kings 2:13
Elijah passed on his mission, ministry, and power to Elisha. Do you have a mission to pass on? Do you know your mission? If you are doing something of long-term significance for the Lord, you need to disciple others to carry on that mission. In this way, the Church will grow and be built up as an ever more effective instrument of establishing God's kingdom on earth.
To build the Church and to leave behind us a great spiritual legacy, we must:
* be doing something of long-term significance, that is, doing God's will for our lives,
* seek God's will about those He has chosen to carry on the mission after we leave this earth,
* specifically call these people to become our disciples and thereby disciples of Jesus (1 Kgs 19:19ff), and
* pray with others in the Christian community for those who have accepted our call. Pray that they receive a "double portion" of the Spirit (see 2 Kgs 2:9).
If we do these simple things, we will see our children and grandchildren totally committed to the Lord. Parishes will be filled with worshipping, evangelizing Christians; seminaries and convents will be repopulated with faith-filled future priests, brothers, sisters, and deacons. New parish churches will be built, and old parishes will be expanded rather than closed. Make disciples (Mt 28:19) for now and the future.
Prayer: Father, may much of my work be continuing when Jesus returns.
Promise: "In that way no one can see you are fasting but your Father Who is hidden; and your Father Who sees what is hidden will repay you." -Mt 6:18
Praise: Jesus healed Rhonda, a young girl with a bleeding ulcer, through the reception of the Eucharist, and through the prayers of those who brought Holy Communion to her home.

Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant my permission to publish "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from June 1, 2012 through July 31, 2012

MERCY, MERCY, MERCY
"Have mercy on me, O God, in Your goodness." -Psalm 51:3
The Lord "is rich in mercy" (Eph 2:4). His mercy is everlasting (Ps 136). On the very day humanity tortured and crucified God, the Lord sent warm sunshine, cool breezes, restful sleep, delicious food, refreshing drink, and many other blessings on His executioners. "His sun rises on the bad and the good, He rains on the just and the unjust" (Mt 5:45). The Lord even had mercy on Ahab, the most wicked man of the Old Testament (see 1 Kgs 21:25, 29), and on Saul, the most wicked man in the New Testament (1 Tm 1:15-16). When we rebel against the Lord, He waits for us to give Him the opportunity to run up to us, throw His arms around us, shower us with gifts, and have a dinner in our honor (Lk 15:20ff). The Lord treats us much, much better than we deserve. He is merciful.
However, the Lord does not force His mercy on us. He respects us and our freedom, even when we abuse it. So we must repent, ask for, and accept God's mercy. When we cry out "Lord, have mercy," we imply that we have sinned and need to confess our sins.
The Lord of mercy desires to have mercy on us (Mt 9:13). He is waiting for you to say, and mean, "Lord, have mercy!" Are you going to do it?
Prayer: Father, may I receive Your mercy before it is too late.
Promise: "In a word, you must be made perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." -Mt 5:48
Praise: St. Romuald overcame temptations and persecution with persistent prayer.
(For a related teaching, order our tape on Divine Love" on audio AV 52-3 or video V-52.)

OUR CHRISTIAN HERITAGE: NOT FOR SALE
"I will not give you my ancestral heritage." -1 Kings 21:4
Although Naboth was offered by King Ahab a better vineyard in exchange for his family's vineyard (1 Kgs 21:2), Naboth refused Ahab's offer. " 'The Lord forbid,' Naboth answered him, 'that I should give you my ancestral heritage' " (1 Kgs 21:3). Naboth was eventually stoned to death because he would not part with his ancestral heritage (1 Kgs 21:13). In contrast to Naboth, Esau sold not only his ancestral heritage but his birthright for a bowl of red stew (Gn 25:30ff). "Esau cared little for his birthright" (Gn 25:34).
Our heritage and birthright are much more than pieces of property. Our Christian heritage includes divine revelation through the official teachings of the Church, especially in the Bible. Our heritage is the truth of God's Word, His power manifested in the sacraments, and His love flowing through the body of Christ, the Church.
To preserve and deepen this heritage, we will certainly have to sacrifice. We may even have to give our lives. So many Christians don't know the truths of their faith. Many are Biblically illiterate, unappreciative of the Lord's awesome sacramental presence and power, and trapped in the isolated individualism of our "culture of death." Many of us have sold our birthright and heritage for next to nothing.
Jesus has paid the price of our heritage with His blood. He commands us: "Wake up, and strengthen what remains before it dies" (Rv 3:2). Sacrifice and die to preserve our heritage in Christ.
Prayer: Father, I will "fight hard for the faith delivered once for all to the saints" (Jude 3).
Promise: "What I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury. When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other." -Mt 5:39
Praise: Henry's health improved once he forgave his parents.
(For a related teaching, order our tape on "Developing a Deep Personal Relationship with Jesus" on audio AV 52-1 or video V-52.)

PM eNewsletter 11th Sunday in ordinary time
June 17th the eleventh Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, we are now in ordinary time, and we can get so busy doing life, that we forget that
in You there is no ordinary time.
Just extraordinary love and grace, to help us to live in extraordinary ways.
Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life, and only in You will we ever find rest for
our souls.
Help us, oh! Christ, to feel the love that You have for us, and so be able to help others
to find Your love as they see You in us.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday TREES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=6/17/2012
"And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord, bring low the high tree, lift
high the lowly tree, wither up the green tree, and make the withered tree bloom." -Ezekiel 17:24
The Bible begins with the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gn 2:9).
It ends with the trees of life on the banks of the river of life-giving waters in heaven
(Rv 22:1-2). Ezekiel described the Messianic kingdom as a majestic cedar tree on a high
mountain (Ez 17:22-23). In contrast, Jesus described His kingdom in a much less impressive
way as being like a mustard tree or shrub (Mk 4:32). Finally, the early Church referred to
Jesus' cross as a tree (see Acts 13:29).
The cross is the ultimate tree of life bridging Genesis to Revelation, the beginning to the
end, earth to heaven, and humanity to God. The tree of the cross is the fulfillment of the
Messianic prophecies. It is the means of establishing God's kingdom on earth as it is in
heaven. It is the way to enter the kingdom of heaven.
There were trees in paradise. There are trees in heaven. The Spirit called the early Church
to view the cross as a tree. The poet Joyce Kilmer was right when he said he would never see
anything as wondrous as a tree.
Prayer: Father, may the sight of a tree make me think with gratitude of Your Son's cross.
Promise: "We walk by faith, not by sight." -2 Cor 5:7
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, crucified and risen Lord of life and love. Alleluia forever!

Contrary to the old saying, what we don't know will definitely hurt us. We perish for lack of
knowledge of God and the things of God. In this book, we proclaim the truth in areas where
our lack of knowledge has hurt us badly. We present these teachings in the form of questions

-Hosea 4:6
Contrary to the old saying, what we don't know will definitely hurt us. We perish for lack of
knowledge of God and the things of God. In this book, we proclaim the truth in areas where
our lack of knowledge has hurt us badly. We present these teachings in the form of questions
and answers because this is how simple, everyday people often bring up ................

"MAKE DISCIPLES" (Mt 28:19) - One Bread, One Body, 6/16/2012
Saturday, June 16, 2012, Immaculate Heart of Mary
1 Kings 19:19-21, Psalm 16:1-2, 5, 7-10, Matthew 5:33-37, or Luke 2:41-51

"MAKE DISCIPLES" (Mt 28:19)
"Then he left and followed Elijah as his attendant." -1 Kings 19:21
Elijah lived a very eventful life. He called down fire from heaven three times, worked miracles, raised the dead, and rocked the government (see Sir 48:1ff). Nevertheless, the most important event of Elijah's life may have been the calling of Elisha as his disciple (1 Kgs 19:19ff). The ramifications of this call to discipleship brought down the evil government of Ahab and Jezebel.
You also have many important events in your life. Yet none may be so important as making your children disciples of Jesus. God may have put you in a certain job for many years primarily to make a disciple of one fellow worker. The Lord may have placed you in a particular neighborhood to make disciples for Christ of one or more neighbors. Jesus' command that we both be and make disciples explains some of the surprises, joys, and sorrows of our lives. Shortly before Jesus' Ascension into heaven, the climactic moment of His life on earth, Jesus commanded us to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19).
Discipleship was obviously the focus of Jesus' earthly life. Therefore, discipleship is also the goal of our lives.
Prayer: Jesus, by Your grace I will be Your disciple. Mother Mary, give me the love in your Immaculate Heart so I will make disciples who disciple others.
Promise: "Say, 'Yes' when you mean 'Yes' and 'No' when you mean 'No.' Anything beyond that is from the evil one." -Mt 5:37
Praise: David prayed fervently to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for strength to overcome sexual temptations. He soon found himself deeply in love with the Lord and filled with the sense of being clean and holy.
(For a related teaching, order our tape Immaculate Heart of Mary" on audio AV 19-1 or video V-19.)

THE LOOK OF LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 6/15/2012

THE LOOK OF LOVE
"They shall look on Him Whom they have pierced." -John 19:37
"God is Love" (1 Jn 4:16). This is the most fundamental revelation from God. "We, for our part, love because He first loved us" (1 Jn 4:19). First of all, we must know that God loves us.
However, we have great difficulty believing in God's love for us. Although He draws us "with human cords, with bands of love," and although He stoops to feed and heal us (see Hos 11:4), we may not believe He loves us. Even when God became a human being and proved His love by dying on the cross for us (Rm 5:8), we denied, ignored, and questioned His love.
The Lord has sent apostles, prophets, preachers, and teachers to proclaim His love (see Eph 4:11). These proclamations have been like a two-edged sword, which penetrated, divided, and judged the thoughts and reflections of our hearts (Heb 4:12). In this way, many people have come to believe in God's love for them and begin to live a new life of love.
Probably the most effective proclamation of God's love for each of us is the prophetic vision of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Look at a picture of the Sacred Heart. "Thus you will be able to grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love, and experience this love which surpasses all knowledge, so that you may attain to the fullness of God Himself" (Eph 3:18-19). Look daily at a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Believe that He loves you.
Prayer: Father, on this world day of prayer for the sanctification of priests, let priests know, give, and preach Your love as never before.
Promise: "My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred." -Hos 11:8
Praise: Norm gives pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to newly married couples as his way of bringing Jesus into their homes.

"HOLY, HOLY, HOLY" (Rv 4:8)
"I tell you, unless your holiness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees you shall not enter the kingdom of God." -Matthew 5:20
Jesus calls us to be holy as He is holy - to be holy in every aspect of our conduct (1 Pt 1:15-16). Our holiness may need to surpass even that of those we consider holy (see Mt 5:20). We must become the very righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21, RNAB) and become perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Mt 5:48). Jesus' standards for holiness are the highest ever set for human beings. In fact, they are humanly impossible - but absolutely necessary for us to see God (Heb 12:14), that is, go to heaven.
The only way to meet the Lord's requirement of perfect holiness (1 Thes 5:23) is through the Holy Spirit. We cannot be holy by our might and power, but only by the Holy Spirit (Zec 4:6). Only the Holy Spirit can prepare for the Lord a Church that is "holy and immaculate, without stain or wrinkle or anything of that sort" (Eph 5:27).
Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a stronger desire for holiness. May you want holiness more than you want pleasure. May you love the Lord so deeply that you want to be like Him, that is, to be holy. May you live and die for holiness' sake (see Mt 5:6). Come, Spirit of holiness!
Prayer: Father, may I be sick of sin, crucified to the world (Gal 6:14), and holy.
Promise: "Your paths overflow with a rich harvest; the untilled meadows overflow with it, and rejoicing clothes the hills." -Ps 65:12-13
Praise: When William's sister wrote him about the "New Age," he then wrote her about the One Who makes all things new.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet Be Holy, For I Am Holy".)

WAITING FOR ORDERS?
"I am the only surviving prophet of the Lord." -1 Kings 18:22
Are you the only surviving Christian in your family? Maybe you're the only one that goes to church, or the only Christian at your place of work or in your neighborhood. There may even be a number of people around you who call themselves Christians, but are lukewarm (Rv 3:16), not totally committed to the Lord, straddling the issue (1 Kgs 18:21).
You need to be another Elijah and call people to repentance and total commitment to the Lord. Ask Him where your Mt. Carmel, your battlefield, is (see 1 Kgs 18:20ff). Ask Him whom you are to confront, and when and how to do it. Your battlefield may be the bedroom, backyard, or church. You may be called to confront your oldest son, a boss, an employee, or twenty co-workers. You may need to do this immediately, the next time you see them, or after praying a novena. You may be called to focus your battle on calling others to go to Confession, forgive a spouse, repent of having an abortion, face their addictions, or swallow their pride.
The battle belongs to the Lord (1 Sm 17:47). He tells us the details of the battle so we can share in the victory. Listen and fight.
Prayer: Father, make me Your obedient soldier.
Promise: "Whoever fulfills and teaches these commands shall be great in the kingdom of God." -Mt 5:19
Praise: Filled with zeal for souls, St. Anthony preached God's Word with power throughout France, Spain, and Italy.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet, Spiritual Warfare", or our audio tape AV 57-3 or video tape V-57.)
