HOPE IN GOD IN OUR CULTURE OF DEATH

"Have You cast Judah off completely?" -Jeremiah 14:19

Jeremiah looked at his society and described it as overwhelmed by great destruction (Jer 14:17). He diagnosed it as wounded and incurable (Jer 14:17). Under these circumstances, Jeremiah prayed: "Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest" (Jer 14:17).
Pope John Paul II looked at our world and described it as a "culture of death." Although this is even worse than what Jeremiah described, Pope John Paul II assured the victory of a civilization of love and life over our "culture of death." Pope John Paul II was not naive. He realized the "enormous disparity between the powerful resources available to the forces promoting the 'culture of death' and the means at the disposal of those working for a 'culture of life and love' " (The Gospel of Life, 100). However, "we have faith in God our Father and Lord, in His goodness and mercy...God is preparing a great springtime for Christianity" (Mission of the Redeemer, Pope John Paul II, 86). Moreover, the "new springtime of Christian life...will be revealed...if Christians are docile to the action of the Holy Spirit" (Toward the Third Millennium, Pope John Paul II, 18).
"We are more than conquerors because of Him Who has loved us" (Rm 8:37). Thank You, Jesus!

Prayer: Father, I will cross the threshold of hope.

Promise: "Then the saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom. Let everyone heed what he hears!" -Mt 13:43

Praise: St. Ignatius helped spread the Gospel east in India and west to Brazil.

PERMEATION

"Eventually the whole mass of dough began to rise." -Matthew 13:33

In our culture of death, many Christians are preoccupied with crisis intervention so as to minimize damages inflicted on an eroding, lukewarm Christianity. Although the ones doing this are often making heroic sacrifices, the Lord, being all-powerful, is not interested in mere damage control.
Some Christians, more bold and less tamed by secular humanism, dare to challenge our anti-Christian culture. They intend to infiltrate the world and compete with it. They set up Christian businesses, watch Christian TV programs, read Christian newspapers, etc. These are steps in the right direction, but the Lord wants so much more.
The all-powerful, all-loving God wants us not merely to infiltrate the world but to permeate it. We are to act as the leaven, through which "eventually the whole mass of dough" begins to rise (Mt 13:33). We are to turn the world "upside down" (Acts 17:6, our transl). We are to flip the secular humanistic culture by discovering and inventing the means of permeating it with the Gospel (Catechism, 899). This seems impossible, but "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37).

Prayer: Jesus, every knee will bend and every tongue proclaim that You are Lord (Phil 2:10-11).

Promise: "I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to Me, says the Lord; to be My people, My renown, My praise, My beauty." -Jer 13:11

Praise: St. Peter warned heretics against trying to "hurl themselves against the Rock of Peter."

BELIEVE IN MIRACLES - One Bread, One Body, 7/29/2012

Sunday, July 29, 2012, 17th Sunday Ordinary Time

2 Kings 4:42-44, Ephesians 4:1-6, Psalm 145:10-11, 15-18, John 6:1-15

BELIEVE IN MIRACLES

"Not even with two hundred days' wages could we buy loaves enough to give each of them a mouthful!" -John 6:7

In our secular humanistic culture, we tend to deny the miracles of Jesus. For instance, some people maintain that Jesus didn't really multiply the loaves and the fish but just got everybody to share. By looking at the context of Jesus' multiplication of the loaves and the fish in the sixth chapter of John's Gospel, we can determine that Jesus actually did the miracle of multiplication.
In the first half of John's Gospel, the multiplication of the loaves and the fish is the fourth of seven signs. All the signs are clearly miraculous according to the traditional meaning of miracles, that is, a divine intervention in nature. The first three signs are: Jesus' miracle of turning water into wine at Cana (Jn 2:1ff); the instantaneous, long-range healing of a royal official's terminally ill son (Jn 4:46ff); and the immediate healing of a man who had been seriously ill for thirty-eight years (Jn 5:5ff). The last three signs of John's Gospel are: Jesus' walking on water and the apostles' boat going two or three miles in one second (Jn 6:19ff), the healing of the man born blind (Jn 9:1ff), and the raising of Lazarus from the dead (Jn 11:1ff). If the multiplication of the loaves and fish were not miraculous in the traditional sense, it would not fit into John's Gospel, not inspire the people to try and make Jesus their King (Jn 6:15), and not prepare for Jesus' unashamed proclamation of the miracle of His flesh and blood being given to us as our food and drink (Jn 6:55). Believe in miracles. Believe in Jesus, the Miracle-Worker.

Prayer: Father, give me a strong conviction in the historicity of the Gospels.

Promise: "There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there is but one hope given all of you by your call. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, Who is over all, and works through all, and is in all." -Eph 4:4-6

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, crucified and risen Love. Alleluia!

"DECEITFUL WORDS" FOR CATHOLICS (Jer 7:8) - One Bread, One Body, 7/28/2012

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Jeremiah 7:1-11, Psalm 84:3-6, 8, 11, Matthew 13:24-30
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072812.cfm

"DECEITFUL WORDS" FOR CATHOLICS (Jer 7:8)

"But here you are, putting trust in deceitful words to your own loss!" -Jeremiah 7:8

Some Catholics are still trusting in "deceitful words" today:
* "It's OK to live with your girlfriend and still go to Mass each week. You're a Catholic, and you'll go to heaven. No one goes to hell anymore."
* "Is it really a sin to use artificial birth control? All your Catholic friends do it. Look, the music minister and lector had vasectomies. Why should you go to Confession for that?"
* "So you got pulled over for a few DUI violations. Don't worry, you're not an alcoholic. Look, your parish sells plenty of alcohol at its festival; it must be OK."

Jeremiah cut through the deceitful words and spoke true words to the Israelites. He bluntly said they could not continue to sin and expect to hide behind their membership in the Temple (Jer 7:4). He prophesied to them, and to us today, that we cannot come to stand before God in His house and then go out to "commit all these [sins] again" (Jer 7:10). Similarly, Jesus warned against presuming we are safe because of our standing in the Church (Lk 18:9ff). Presumption is a sin against hope in God where a person is "hoping to obtain His forgiveness without conversion" (Catechism, 2091, 2092).
We are always welcome in God's house with humble, contrite, and repentant hearts (Ps 51:19). Jesus never rejects anyone that comes to Him (Jn 6:37), but He tells each of us to sin no more (Jn 8:11). Resist the deceitful words of our culture. Repent today!

Prayer: Father, show me all areas of my life in which I am deceived. Give me the grace to repent quickly and permanently.

Promise: "Happy the men whose strength You are!" -Ps 84:6

Praise: The Miller family threw out their TV and instead prayed a family rosary each night.

PM eNewsletter 17th Sunday in ordinary time

(my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I apologize that I had to send this out 2 days early.
Please pray that my family and I have a safe trip to the east coast and return safely. May God
continue to bless each of you and all that you care for.)

July 29th 17th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week, oh! Jesus Your church celebrates the feast of St. James, the apostle.

He was an ordinary person, who through Your grace, became a pillar of Your church.

He followed You without question, and gave up all of his known beliefs and was converted to You.

Jesus, give us that grace to constantly be converted to following You without fear.

Let us be truly Catholic christians, who love all as best they can, and evangelize by how they live and love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Seek First the Kingdom (Mt. 6:33)
http://presentationministries.com/brochures/SeekFirst.asp

"Repent! The kingdom of God is at hand!" -Mk 1:15, our translation

Jesus told us to present His gospel by proclaiming that the kingdom of God is at
hand (Mt 10:7). He commanded us to seek first His kingdom and then everything else would be
given to us (Mt 6:33). Whenever we pray, we should pray for His kingdom to come on earth as
it is in heaven (Mt 6:10). He gave His Church the keys of the kingdom (Mt 16:19). When
Jesus healed and delivered people from the evil one, these were signs of the kingdom
(Lk 11:20). The Last Supper was a kingdom-celebration (Mt 26:29). Jesus was even put to
death because He claimed to be the King of the Jews (Lk 23:38). Jesus repeatedly emphasizes
that the gospel is to be presented in terms of the kingdom.

Our Saviour King Jesus, You alone are worthy of all praise, honor and glory. I live this
day according to your will. I pray for this nation to make the moral decision this
presidential election. We are one nation under God. Our vote this November should reflect
who we are in Jesus. Don't look at the taxes, but look to life, in the unborn and elderly.
How can we as Christians elect someone who doesn't stand for the unborn???. The choice is
yours. Only you will stand before the judgement seat, no one to enable or defend you. We
need a president that will protect the unborn and the state of Israel at all costs. We
will reap what we sow as a nation this election. Lord Jesus, help those who don't want to
admit the truth and want things their own way. Reveal through the power of the Holy Spirit
discerning of truth. Thank you Jesus. I ask this in your name, Judith
(Judith H., Lewes, DE, United States, 7/26/2012 9:34:23 PM)

That I may see that you have not let me down. Forgive us of our sins Lord. May through

GRAND GRANDPARENTS - One Bread, One Body, 7/26/2012

Thursday, July 26, 2012, Sts. Joachim & Anne

Sirach 44:1, 10-15, Psalm 132:11, 13-14, 17-18, Matthew 13:16-17
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072612.cfm

GRAND GRANDPARENTS

"These also were godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten; their wealth remains in their families." -Sirach 44:10-11

We need grand grandparents like Joachim and Ann, the grandparents of Jesus. We need grandparents who have not merely lived to see their children's children, but who are totally consecrated spiritual warriors that will "go out in a blaze of glory." Our grandparents shouldn't be re-tired but re-fired. They should "fight hard for the faith" (Jude 3), attack the gates of hell (Mt 16:18), and shoot Satan out of the sky (Lk 10:18). We need grandparents who aren't living as if they are afraid of dying (see Heb 2:15). We need elder Christians who are not ashamed of the Gospel (Rm 1:16), who have the courage to speak the truth in love (Eph 4:15) and witness for Jesus (Acts 1:8), and who have long since stopped worrying about being popular (see Gal 1:10).
Grandparents, soon you will be seeing Jesus face-to-face (see 1 Cor 13:12). Now is no time for fear and selfishness. "You are not to spend what remains of your earthly life on human desires but on the will of God" (1 Pt 4:2). It's time to run for the finish line, "life on high in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:14). When we die is not as important as how we live. Despite the weakness and struggles of old age, live and die for Jesus.

Prayer: Father, "now that I am old and gray, O God, forsake me not till I proclaim Your strength to every generation that is to come" (Ps 71:18).

Promise: "Blest are your eyes because they see and blest are your ears because they hear." -Mt 13:16

Praise: Sts. Joachim and Anne accepted God's call to marry and raise a child. They dedicated their daughter to God, and God blessed her among all women.

THE DEATH OF DEATH - One Bread, One Body, 7/25/2012

Wednesday, July 25, 2012, St. James

THE DEATH OF DEATH

"Death is at work in us, but life in you." -2 Corinthians 4:12

Our culture of death will eventually be true to its name and die out. (We pray that this death of the culture of death will occur as soon as possible so that fewer people will be traumatized.) Death as a work of the evil one will be destroyed by another kind of death - a loving death to self in the pattern of Jesus' death on the cross (see Phil 3:10). The writer of Song of Songs proclaims: "Stern as death is love, relentless as the nether world is devotion" (Sg 8:6). In fact, Jesus' crucified love is sterner than death. Jesus' death on the cross resulted in the ultimate and total victory of risen life over death.
Consequently, in love let us fall "to the earth" and die so as to produce "much fruit" (Jn 12:24). "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed. While we live we are constantly being delivered to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be revealed" (2 Cor 4:10-11). We have been baptized into Jesus' death so as to share in His Resurrection (Rm 6:3, 5).
A friend of mine has a saying: "You're not done dying till you're dead." Die to self in Christ and in love.

Prayer: Father, teach me how to die in love. St. James, pray for the death of the culture of death.

Promise: "Such is the case with the Son of Man Who has come, not to be served by others, but to serve, to give His own life as a ransom for the many." -Mt 20:28

Praise: St. James hid behind his mother when he wanted to sit next to a King (Mt 20:21). After he received the Holy Spirit, James became such a threat to King Herod that he was beheaded for his bold faith in Jesus (Acts 12:1-2).

"BAND OF BROTHERS" - One Bread, One Body, 7/24/2012

Tuesday, July 24, 2012, St. Sharbel Makhluf

Micah 7:14-15, 18-20, Psalm 85:2-8, Matthew 12:46-50

"BAND OF BROTHERS"

"Who are My brothers?" -Matthew 12:48

Jesus transformed the relationship between husband and wife when He said that the Biblical provisions for divorce were no longer necessary (Mt 19:6ff; Dt 24:1-4). He transformed motherhood when He commanded His mother Mary to be the mother of all His disciples (Jn 19:26-27). Jesus transformed the meaning of fatherhood, sonship, and daughterhood when He told us to call God our Abba, that is, Father (Mt 6:9). This made us brothers and sisters of Jesus and of each other. Jesus said: "Whoever does the will of My heavenly Father is brother and sister and mother to Me" (Mt 12:50).
When we were baptized into Jesus, we were baptized into a radically transformed brotherhood and sisterhood. Paul spoke of those who bear "the title 'brother' " (1 Cor 5:11). Brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ are recognized as special and exalted callings. Paul also spoke of "false claimants to the title of brother" (Gal 2:4). This implies that brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ are so valuable that we would want to claim these titles. If we are to claim in truth the title of brother or sister, we must lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters (1 Jn 3:16).
Consider brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ great honors. To claim these honors, lay down your life in love for your brothers and sisters.

Prayer: Father, make me one in mind and heart with my brothers and sisters in Jesus (Acts 4:32).

Promise: "As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt, show us wonderful signs." -Mi 7:15

Praise: St. Sharbel, a Lebanese priest, fasted frequently (2 Cor 11:27) and had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

JESUS ON JUDGMENT - One Bread, One Body, 7/23/2012

Monday, July 23, 2012, St. Bridget of Sweden

Micah 6:1-4, 6-8, Psalm 50:5-6, 8-9, 16-17, 21, 23, Matthew 12:38-42

JESUS ON JUDGMENT

"The Lord has a plea against His people, and He enters into trial." -Micah 6:2

Jesus promises that on Judgment Day we will be judged on whether we repented at His preaching (Mt 12:41). In some sense, Jesus is preaching in the circumstances of everyday life, but most literally Jesus Himself is preaching at the liturgy (e.g., the Eucharistic liturgy) (Catechism, 1088). This does not mean that every word the priest or deacon says during the homily is straight from the Lord. Yet it does mean that, by virtue of the nature of Jesus' priesthood and the nature of the liturgy, Jesus the High Priest is working through or even despite the person reading the Scriptures or preaching. On Judgment Day, we will be held accountable for repenting as we heard God's words in the liturgy.
Also, Jesus promises that on Judgment Day we will be judged on whether we have gone to extremes to listen to His wisdom (Mt 12:42). Jesus' wisdom is available in many ways but especially in the official teaching of His body, the Church. If we haven't tried to read the Bible, the Church's Catechism, the second Vatican Council's documents, and the Pope's encyclicals, can we as Catholics say that we have gone to extremes to listen to Jesus' wisdom?
Let's repent of spiritual anorexia. Let us hunger for God's Word (see Mt 4:4). We need repentance and wisdom. Judgment Day comes.

Prayer: Father, I repent of stuffing myself with the things of the flesh and thereby losing my spiritual appetite (see Prv 13:19).

Promise: "You have been told, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you: only to do right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God." -Mi 6:8

Praise: From an early age, St. Bridget dedicated every Friday to meditating upon Jesus' passion.

PM eNewsletter 16th Sunday in ordinary time

July 22nd 16th Sunday in ordinary time

Jesus, we have all sinned and fallen far from Your presence.

We need to see examples of those who You have touched and
freed them from there sinful ways.

This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates a feast of a lady
who loved You dearly and followed You all the way to the cross.

Mary Magdalene was a sinner who you freed from the clasp of satan.

When she was freed she walked with You everyday for the rest
of Your earthly life.

Give us all that same freedom from serious sin, and help us
to follow You everyday, by picking up our crosses of life,
and knowing that You are with us always.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE INVISIBLE FENCE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=7/22/2012

"It is He Who is our Peace, and Who made the two of us one by breaking down the barrier of
hostility that kept us apart." -Ephesians 2:14

Jesus is our Peace. He alone can break down the barrier of hostility that separates us from
one another. A barrier of hostility had built up between Jews and Gentiles. Many barriers of
hostility separate husbands and wives, parents and children, and employer and employee. These
are not physical barriers of concrete, wood, or steel, but spiritual barriers of hostility,
unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, or resentment. These barriers can imprison us for life and
forever in hell after this life. Only Jesus can remove these barriers.

In the suburbs of America, people buy invisible fences to keep their dogs in the yard.
Barriers of hostility are like invisible fences. Whenever we come close to being free, living
a new life, repenting of sin, and loving Jesus with all our hearts, the devil activates the
invisible fence and keeps us trapped in the yard of sin, apathy, self-hatred, and selfishness.
However, the invisible fence can't shock the animal unless there's a specific collar on it.
Likewise, the devil can't activate the invisible fence without our wearing an invisible collar
of hostility, unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, or resentment. If we repent of these sins and
thereby take off our collar, we can walk through the invisible fence and be free. The barrier
of hostility is gone.

Prayer: Jesus, remove my barriers by removing my collar of sin.

Promise: "Jesus saw a vast crowd. He pitied them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and He began to teach them at great length." -Mk 6:34

Praise: Praise Jesus, obedient, forgiving, and risen Savior. Alleluia!

Seek First the Kingdom (Mt. 6:33)

THE TYRANNY OF SELF

"When the Pharisees were outside they began to plot against Him to find a way to destroy Him. Jesus was aware of this." -Matthew 12:14-15

Jesus was aware that some of the religious leaders of His time were plotting to destroy Him. When we are rejected, hated, and threatened with murder, we normally turn in on ourselves and become preoccupied with our problems. However, Jesus did just the opposite. He reached out to many people and cured them all (Mt 12:15). When we're wounded, we think of being healed. When Jesus was wounded, He healed others.
When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He did not give in to self-pity. Rather, He kept forgiving those executing Him (Lk 23:34), promised paradise to the good thief (Lk 23:43), called Mary to be a mother to His disciples (Jn 19:26-27), and commended His Spirit to His Father (Lk 23:46). Jesus was God-centered, other-centered, and sinner-centered. Even in His agony and pain on Calvary, Jesus was not self-centered.
It's humanly impossible to die to self when you feel as if you're dying. However, Jesus lives in all those who have given their lives to Him. Jesus will make us Christ-centered rather than self-centered. He will free us from the tyranny of self.

Prayer: Father, may I not be self-centered so that I can truly love You and myself.

Promise: "Here is My Servant Whom I have chosen, My loved One in Whom I delight. I will endow Him with My Spirit." -Mt 12:18

Praise: St. Lawrence defended the Church against heretics and Turks.

AN OVER-TIME LOSS - One Bread, One Body, 7/20/2012

Friday, July 20, 2012, St. Apollinarius

Isaiah 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8, Isaiah 38:10-12, 16, Matthew 12:1-8

AN OVER-TIME LOSS

"I will add fifteen years to your life." -Isaiah 38:5

God healed King Hezekiah of a terminal illness and gave him an additional fifteen years of life (Is 38:5). How did Hezekiah use this gift? Three years into his extra fifteen years, Hezekiah, who had been childless, fathered a son, Manasseh, who would succeed him as king of Judah, and continue the line which led to Jesus (Mt 1:10, 16). You would think that Hezekiah, who had been one of the few good and godly kings, would spend his remaining twelve years of life (2 Kgs 21:1) training young Manasseh in both the Jewish faith and in how to be a good king. Sadly, it seems that Hezekiah passed little on to his son. Manasseh was possibly the most evil king of Judah, and by the end of his fifty-five year reign, a culture of death had been entrenched in Judah.
What else did Hezekiah do with his final fifteen years of life? "Hezekiah...did not discharge his debt of gratitude, for he had become proud" (2 Chr 32:25). He pridefully aligned himself with Babylon and began the downfall of Israel (2 Kgs 20:12-19). He considered it a good thing that evil would fall on his son Manasseh and his other descendants instead of in his own lifetime (Is 39:8; 2 Kgs 20:17-19). "He built cities for himself" instead of teaching his son the faith (2 Chr 32:29).
Did Hezekiah fall into the trap of thinking that, since God spared him, he was in "good shape" with God and no longer needed to live in fear of the Lord? Did he become complacent and assume that Manasseh would just turn out well despite minimal fathering? Could we be just as complacent? "Do not grow lazy" (Heb 6:12).

Prayer: Jesus, each day may I live as if You were returning tonight.

Promise: "It is mercy I desire and not sacrifice." -Mt 12:7

Praise: St. Apollinarius defended Christians to the emperor, and Christ to non-believers.

COME, ABIDE, REST, TRUST

"Come to Me...Your souls will find rest." -Matthew 11:28, 29

Each year, Presentation Ministries discerns all prophecies received and summarizes them in a few sentences. Two years ago, the summary prophetic theme we discerned the Lord telling us was expressed as follows: "Come. Abide. Rest. Trust."
* Come. We cannot remain in the same place. We must continually move toward Jesus. We must come to Jesus, and to no one else, to nothing else (Mt 11:28).
* Abide. Once we have come to Jesus, we must stay with Him. Jesus asks us to remain with Him (see Mt 26:38), and not gradually wander away from Him. We must make our abode in Jesus and in His Word (Jn 8:31-32).
* Rest. Just because we have come to Jesus and are abiding in Him doesn't mean we will continue to do so. As St. Augustine said: "Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee" (see Catechism, 30). Jesus says that in Him we will find rest (Mt 11:29). However, we must strive diligently to enter into His rest (Heb 4:11), lest we allow the cares of this world to rob us of Jesus' rest (Mt 13:22).
* Trust. Here is the "catch." Once you come, abide, and rest, you realize you have a cross to carry and a battle to fight. Jesus' heart is focused on the salvation and conversion of all. He wants all to come to know the Lord (1 Tm 2:4). So we must take action and obey. We'll be called to take risks and carry our crosses as His soldiers. We need to trust.

Come. Abide. Rest. Trust. Jesus "will refresh you" (Mt 11:28).

Prayer: Father, all I want is to know Your Son (Phil 3:10).

Promise: "Take My yoke upon your shoulders, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart." -Mt 11:29

Praise: Though still in her teens, Carol feels saddened when she cannot take part in daily Mass.

MEET MY FATHER - One Bread, One Body, 7/18/2012

Wednesday, July 18, 2012, St. Camillus de Lellis

Isaiah 10:5-7, 13-16, Psalm 94:5-10, 14-15, Matthew 11:25-27

MEET MY FATHER

"No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son - and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him." -Matthew 11:27

Jesus came to reveal the Father to the people on this earth. He even taught us to pray first of all, "Father" (Mt 6:9). Jesus reveals the Father to anyone He wishes (Mt 11:27). Is there anyone to whom Jesus does not wish to reveal the Father? Since Jesus wants to reveal the Father to us, it obviously takes a hard heart and a closed mind to shut out Jesus' revelation of the Father.
Jesus didn't try to reveal the Father to Herod (Lk 23:9), which indicates that Herod had completely closed his heart and mind to God. However, He did attempt to reveal the Father to the Sanhedrin as they tried and condemned Him (Lk 22:69). He also tried to reveal the Father to Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes, and elders at various meals and in various situations (Mt 19:4; 21:31, 37; Lk 15:3, 22; 20:37). Since Jesus wanted so badly to reveal His Father to them, it's understandable that He was grieved when they had closed their minds against Him (Mk 3:5).
We must constantly strive to become like little children before the Lord (Mt 18:3). We need an innocent heart to guard against the temptation to harden our hearts to the point that we have closed ourselves to Jesus' revelation of the Father. We must also study the Scriptures regularly, even daily. "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" (Catechism, 133) and of His revelation of the Father. "Oh, that today you would hear His voice: harden not your hearts" (Ps 95:7).

Prayer: Father, "hallowed be Your name" (Mt 6:9).

Promise: "The Lord will not cast off His people." -Ps 94:14

Praise: St. Camillus served the sick and dying and became patron of hospitals. He was said to forget all pleasures, enticements, and interests of this world when he saw a sick person in need.

COMPARATIVELY SPEAKING

"I assure you, it will go easier for Sodom than for you on the day of judgment." -Matthew 11:24

Yesterday, in the first eucharistic reading, the Lord called us "princes of Sodom" and "people of Gomorrah" (Is 1:10). Today, He says we are worse than Sodom, for if the miracles we have received would have taken place in Sodom, it would have repented (Mt 11:23-24). The Lord is telling us that we have not yet repented according to His standards.
We naturally tend to compare ourselves with others to make ourselves feel better or even superior. So, when the Lord compares us with some of the most wicked people ever and then says we are worse than they were, we tend to reject His words.
Why is Jesus being so rough on us? It's because He loves us (see Heb 12:6). He died on the cross to free us from our sin; so He does not want us to die in our sins (see Jn 8:21, 24) but to repent of them. "Avoid this sin" (Jn 8:11).
Could it be that the Lord is not speaking to someone else but to each one of us? Jesus is looking at you right in the eye (Lk 22:61). Firmly, with love, He says: "Repent." Take His words to heart. Go to Confession today or, at the latest, tomorrow. His words "are spirit and life" (Jn 6:63). Repent.

Prayer: Father, may I repent on a very deep level.

Promise: "Unless your faith is firm you shall not be firm!" -Is 7:9

Praise: Georgia sows the Word of God by sharing her faith with those in jail and in nursing homes.

NOTHING BUT THE CROSS - One Bread, One Body, 7/16/2012

Monday, July 16, 2012, Our Lady of Mount Carmel

NOTHING BUT THE CROSS

"He who will not take up his cross and come after Me is not worthy of Me." -Matthew 10:38

We are Christians, disciples of Christ. We follow Jesus, Who saved us not through His power or wisdom, but through His ministry of suffering. Jesus came to earth to die on the cross to atone for our sins, pay the price for our salvation (1 Cor 6:20), and reconcile us to God (Col 1:20).
We must never over-spiritualize our faith and forget that Jesus suffered horribly in the flesh (Heb 5:8). We just can't follow Jesus merely from the hope that He can do great things for us. That treats Jesus as a "sugardaddy," denying all that He is and the reason He came to earth. Jesus died a disgraceful death. He was publicly humiliated, scorned as a condemned criminal. He Who was holy and innocent bore a cross meant for a murderer (Lk 23:25).
We Christians imitate Jesus. We take up our cross each day, deny our very selves, and follow in His footsteps (Lk 9:23). This is impossible in our human nature. Through our baptism into Jesus' cross and death, however, we become sharers in the divine nature (Rm 6:4; 2 Pt 1:4). Now we can embrace the cross as Jesus embraced His cross. In the mystery of the cross, by taking up our cross, we discover who we are (Mt 10:39).
If you falter carrying your cross, remember that Jesus understands. He fell several times carrying His cross. He knows the cross is heavy but He also wants you to know the joy in sharing in His sufferings (1 Pt 4:13). So cross off your list anything that leads you away from Jesus' cross. Take up your cross.

Prayer: Jesus, may I know nothing but Your cross (1 Cor 2:2). May I be crucified to the world and the world to me (Gal 6:14).

Promise: "He that offers praise as a sacrifice glorifies Me; and to him that goes the right way I will show the salvation of God." -Ps 50:23

Praise: Our Lady of Mount Carmel promised that her Son would transform our lives if we would repent.

PM eNewsletter 15th Sunday in ordinary time

July 15th Fifteenth Sunday in ordinary time

This week oh Christ, Your church celebrates the feast of
"Our lady of Mount Carmel".

Mary, our mother, has given us a very powerful prayer form
that can accomplish marvelous results--the rosary.

For those of us who don't say the rosary everyday, inspire us
to start anew.

Help us to meditate on the mysteries of Your time on earth
and see the love that You constantly showed in doing Your
Fathers will.

Jesus, help us to realize the power of moms intercession to You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LOW ENOUGH TO BE EXALTED? (see Mt 23:12)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=7/15/2012

"The Lord took me from following the flock." -Amos 7:15

Amos was a country boy, a shepherd, and a pruner of sycamore trees - a nobody chosen by God
to prophesy to the nation of Israel (Am 7:14). Jesus likewise sent out His apostles as
nobodies. He didn't let them have the possessions and money by which many people try to
command respect (see Mk 6:8-9). He didn't even provide them with accommodations
(see Mk 6:10). The apostles had about as much prestige as homeless people. Of course,
without credentials, status, clout, or worldly power, they were almost certain to be
rejected. So Jesus told them to be prepared to shake the dust from their feet if any place
did not receive them (Mk 6:11).

Jesus is the same today as yesterday (Heb 13:8). He continues to insist on choosing "the
world's lowborn and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who
were something; so that mankind can do no boasting before God" (1 Cor 1:28-29). When Jesus
sends us forth in weakness, His power reaches perfection (2 Cor 12:9). Jesus promised that
the lowly will inherit the earth (Mt 5:5). Will you agree to become lowly? Will you let the
Lord work through you?

Prayer: Father, may I be lowly in the world's eyes and great in Your eyes.

Promise: "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has bestowed on us in
Christ every spiritual blessing in the heavens!" -Eph 1:3

Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, only Hope for the world. Glory and praise forever!

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

YOUTH AND JOY FREEDOM

GOD'S WORD AND JOY

God's word reveals the wonders that He has accomplished throughout human history, it
fills us with joy, and it leads to praise and worship.

"LASTING JOY"

To have lasting joy we need to live in love and truth. We need to live in God.

JOY AND FORGIVENESS

Dear young people, have frequent recourse to the Sacrament of Penance and
Reconciliation! It is the sacrament of joy rediscovered. Ask the Holy Spirit for the
light needed to acknowledge your sinfulness and ask for God's forgiveness.
