THE JOY OF LENT AND LIFE
"There shall always be rejoicing and happiness in what I create." -Isaiah 65:18
If the Lord creates a calling for you, you can find joy in it. If He calls you to life-long celibacy, you have cause for rejoicing. If the Lord gives you and your spouse ten children, rejoice in the sacrifice of having a large family. When He calls us to repent, we share in the great joy of heaven over one sinner who repents (Lk 15:7). When the Lord gives us the privilege of being persecuted for the Gospel, we should rejoice in the measure we share in His sufferings (1 Pt 4:13).
There's more joy in suffering with Jesus than in having pleasure without Him. True joy depends on only one thing: "Did the Lord create it? Is it His will?" Therefore, joy is not feeling good but obeying the Lord (see Ps 40:9). This makes it possible to rejoice always (1 Thes 5:16). No one and nothing can take our joy from us (Jn 16:22).
We can't always feel good but we can always obey God and thereby always rejoice. In fact, not only can we rejoice in the Lord but also rejoice with the divine joy of the Lord. We can actually have Jesus' joy (Jn 15:11). Moreover, this divine joy will be our strength (Neh 8:10).
"Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice!" (Phil 4:4)
Prayer: Father, this Lent may the joy in my life reach fever pitch (Acts 8:8).
Promise: "He and his whole household thereupon became believers." -Jn 4:53
Praise: The Rileys left a job, home, and security to move and join a Christian community.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday BLIND SIDE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/30/2014
"As He walked along, He saw a man who had been blind from birth." -John 9:1
The world is divided into two groups: those who know they're spiritually blind, and ask for
and receive sight from Jesus, and others who refuse to admit they're blind and are even
blind to being blind. Jesus said: "I came into this world to divide it, to make the
sightless see and the seeing blind" (Jn 9:39). Many take offense at being called blind.
"Some of the Pharisees around Him picked this up, saying, 'You are not calling us blind, are
You?' To which Jesus replied: 'If you were blind there would be no sin in that. "But we
see," you say, and your sin remains' " (Jn 9:40-41).
We were born blind. We inherited this from our parents Adam and Eve. Our sight was restored
when we were reborn in the waters of baptism. Nevertheless, we continue to have eye problems
because of our sins, which originally caused our blindness. We must confess our sins, and
Jesus will again restore our vision. We keep bumping into things, crashing into brick walls,
and having terrible accidents. What does it take to wake us up to reality?
"Awake, O sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light" (Eph 5:14). "So the
man went off and washed, and came back able to see" (Jn 9:7).
Prayer: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures He gives me repose;
beside restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul" (Ps 23:1-3).
Promise: "Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks
into the heart." -1 Sm 16:7
Praise: Praise and honor to the One Who sits on the throne! (Rv 5:13) Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
JESUS, POVERTY AND LENT
"REAL POVERTY HURTS"
Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give
up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. Let us not forget that real
poverty hurts: no self-denial is real without this dimension of penance. I distrust a
charity that costs nothing and does not hurt.
WITH THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
May the Holy Spirit, through Whom we are "as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing
and yet possessing everything" (2 Cor 6:10), sustain us in our resolutions and increase our
concern and responsibility for human destitution, so that we can become merciful and act
with mercy.
"OUR PATH OF CONVERSION"
As Lent draws near, I would like to offer some helpful thoughts on our path of conversion as
individuals and as a community. These insights are inspired by the words of Saint Paul; "For
you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He
became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich" (2 Cor 8:9).

BLIND SIDE
"As He walked along, He saw a man who had been blind from birth." -John 9:1
The world is divided into two groups: those who know they're spiritually blind, and ask for and receive sight from Jesus, and others who refuse to admit they're blind and are even blind to being blind. Jesus said: "I came into this world to divide it, to make the sightless see and the seeing blind" (Jn 9:39). Many take offense at being called blind. "Some of the Pharisees around Him picked this up, saying, 'You are not calling us blind, are You?' To which Jesus replied: 'If you were blind there would be no sin in that. "But we see," you say, and your sin remains' " (Jn 9:40-41).
We were born blind. We inherited this from our parents Adam and Eve. Our sight was restored when we were reborn in the waters of baptism. Nevertheless, we continue to have eye problems because of our sins, which originally caused our blindness. We must confess our sins, and Jesus will again restore our vision. We keep bumping into things, crashing into brick walls, and having terrible accidents. What does it take to wake us up to reality?
"Awake, O sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light" (Eph 5:14). "So the man went off and washed, and came back able to see" (Jn 9:7).
Prayer: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures He gives me repose; beside restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul" (Ps 23:1-3).
Promise: "Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart." -1 Sm 16:7
Praise: Praise and honor to the One Who sits on the throne! (Rv 5:13) Alleluia!

"FEELING GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES"
"For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled while he who humbles himself shall be exalted." -Luke 18:14
Jesus addressed the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector "to those who believed in their own self-righteousness while holding everyone else in contempt" (Lk 18:9). Very few people claim that this parable is addressed to them. Who admits to self-righteousness? Who thinks they hold "everyone else in contempt?" We act as though this parable applies to no one, when in fact it applies to everyone.
We all have a Pharisee lurking deep within us. We think we're not so bad compared to others. We thank God we're "not like the rest of men" (Lk 18:11), and we think God owes us a favor after all we've done for Him. Our arrogance is sinful and ridiculous, but we're so blinded by sin that we've lost perspective on our lives.
In our pride, prayer becomes a mere exercise in self-realization. When we pray, we talk to ourselves and think of our thinking, rather than of God. If we fast, we're actually dieting and expressing our will-power and/or vanity. If we tithe or give alms, it's not just our left hands that know what our right hands are doing (see Mt 6:3). We give not out of love for Jesus in the poor but to "feel good about ourselves" and to put salve on our consciences.
"God 'is stern with the arrogant but to the humble He shows kindness' " (1 Pt 5:5). Let us humble ourselves before the Lord.
Prayer: Father, this Lent teach me humility any way You wish.
Promise: "For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than holocausts." -Hos 6:6
Praise: Jesus healed Sandra of shingles.

THE COMMANDMENT FOR THE HYPOCRITE
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself." -Mark 12:31
One of the scribes asked Jesus: "Which is the first commandment?" Jesus answered by stating the first and second commandments (Mk 12:31). Jesus not only gave the scribe more than he asked for, but also picked a most obscure commandment buried in the many detailed commands of Leviticus (Lv 19:18). What was Jesus doing?
The first commandment seems to be something people say more than do. How many times have we said we love the Lord? How many times have we gone to Communion? Yet our repeated sins and lives of selfishness make it questionable whether or not we truly love the Lord with all our hearts.
Many Jewish and Christian believers have deceived themselves about their living out of the first commandment. The second commandment, therefore, has a way of exposing hypocrisy in us. "If anyone says, 'My love is fixed on God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. One who has no love for the brother he has seen cannot love the God he has not seen" (1 Jn 4:20). It's so easy to say we love God, but to express that love by forgiving, serving, and suffering for very unlovable people seems impossible. When we try to love ourselves and our neighbors, we discover how authentic our love for God is. The second commandment is intended to keep us from playing religious games with the first commandment. Jesus gave us the second commandment to keep us honest.
Prayer: Father, this Lent may I let You remove hypocrisy from my life.
Promise: "Return, O Israel, to the Lord, your God; you have collapsed through your guilt. Take with you words, and return to the Lord." -Hos 14:2-3

HARD SPOTS
"Oh, that today you would hear His voice: 'Harden not your hearts.' " -Psalm 95:7-8
Jeremiah fearlessly proclaimed that the people would not listen to God, had turned their backs on God, and were stiff-necked (Jer 7:24, 26). They had hardened their hearts.
Jesus delivered a man from an evil spirit that kept the man mute. The Pharisees did not rejoice, but accused Jesus of having the devil at work in Him (Lk 11:15). They were hard of heart.
Where are the hard spots in your life? Possibly you mistakenly think long-time works of the Spirit to be merely human traditions. Maybe you're not hardened to the old, but you doubt any new work of the Spirit. You may be hard of heart toward a particular denomination, country, or race. Are you open to God working in North Korea? Have you tried lately to have Christian fellowship with brothers and sisters of a different race?
Often we're hard of heart closer to home. How many husbands actually listen to their wives? How many wives can see past the faults of their husbands? How many parents can accept their children right where they are? We all have hard spots. Only Jesus can touch and soften the human heart.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Prayer: Father, during this Lent, crack the crust around my heart; peel it off, melt me, and make my heart like Yours.
Promise: "But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of God is upon you." -Lk 11:20
Praise: Lorie forgave the woman who committed adultery with her husband.

OBEDIENCE SCHOOL
"Hear the statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to observe, that you may live." -Deuteronomy 4:1
The life of a Christian is "a life of obedience" (1 Pt 1:2). As followers of Christ, we obey Him in all things, even to death on the cross (see Phil 2:8). We obey God's commandments carefully. "Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations" (Dt 4:6). We obey God's law in detail. Jesus said: "Of this much I assure you: until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter of the law, not the smallest part of a letter, shall be done away with until it all comes true" (Mt 5:18). We obey the Lord exactly, "not turning aside to the right or to the left" (Dt 5:32). We obey the Lord joyfully. To do God's will is our delight (Ps 40:9). We obey the Lord thankfully. It is a privilege to obey the Lord. Our obedience is careful, detailed, exact, joyful, and thankful. We obey because we love the Lord (see Jn 15:10).
We do not obey the Lord scrupulously. We know the Lord loves us. Christianity is not having a perfect record, but receiving God's forgiveness and mercy. We do not obey the Lord begrudgingly. We don't pout when we don't get our way. Instead, we love the Lord.
This Lent, thank God that there is more to life than doing our own thing. Thank Him for the opportunity to obey and thereby love Him.
Prayer: Father, forgive me for disobeying You. Give me the grace to love You through obedience to the Church and the Bible.
Promise: "What great nation is there that has gods so close to it as the Lord, our God, is to us whenever we call upon Him?" -Dt 4:7
Praise: Dr. Norm asked Jesus to heal his patient of her migraine headache. The pain left her at once.

GET IT?
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy Offspring to be born will be called Son of God." -Luke 1:35
The Church encourages us to pray the "Angelus" on waking, at noon, and in the evening. Three times a day we pray and think about Jesus' Incarnation. When we pray the rosary, we refer to the Incarnation fifty-three times - each time we pray the "Hail Mary." We pray more about the Incarnation when we pray the first joyful mystery of the rosary. The Holy Spirit has led the Church to be preoccupied with Jesus' Incarnation.
On this feast day commemorating the Archangel Gabriel's announcement of the Incarnation, let's pray that the thousands and hundreds of thousands of "Hail Marys" we have prayed would hit home. May we realize and be stunned by the fact that God became a human being. Like the wise men, may we prostrate ourselves before the God-Man, the God-Baby (Mt 2:11). Like Joseph, may we be willing to change all our plans because of the Incarnation (Mt 1:20ff). Like Mary, may we offer our bodies and lives as living sacrifices to the Lord (Rm 12:1) and say: "Let it be done to me as You say" (Lk 1:38).
When we finally "get it," catch on, and wake up to the fact that God loves us so much that He became one of us, we begin to tremble in fear of the Lord. This "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (see Ps 111:10) and new life in Christ. Get it?
Prayer: Jesus, in the middle of praying the Creed at Mass today, may I bow down before you in adoration. May I never be the same after loving You today. Mary, pray for me now.
Promise: "Ask for a sign from the Lord, your God; let it be deep as the nether world, or high as the sky!" -Is 7:11
Praise: Praise Jesus, the Word made flesh (Jn 1:14), God made man!

"HEAL THE LEPROUS" (Mt 10:8) - One Bread, One Body, 3/24/2014

"HEAL THE LEPROUS" (Mt 10:8)
"Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times at the word of the man of God. His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean." -2 Kings 5:14
The Lord commands us to heal the leprous. We have the authority and the power to heal the severely sick and the outcasts (see Mt 10:1). We heal the leprous by being like the little slave girl of Naaman's wife. She witnessed to God's healing power (2 Kgs 5:2-3).
We heal the leprous by being like Naaman's servants. We encourage lepers, and everyone, to swallow their pride and obey God (2 Kgs 5:13). If they, and we, would only obey God's command, we all shall be healed (Mt 8:8).
We heal the leprous by being like Elisha. We tell people what the Lord wants them to hear instead of what they want to hear (2 Kgs 5:10ff). We prophesy.
Finally, we heal the leprous and are healed of our own sinful condition by being people of faith who will travel any distance, incur any expense, and repent of every sin so as to receive the grace of God.
The Lord heals even the most severely sick through witnesses, encouragers, and prophets. He heals through men and women of faith. Jesus continues to say to us: "It is your faith that has cured you. Go in peace and be free of this illness" (Mk 5:34). Believe; give healing; be healed.
Prayer: Father, beginning this Lent, I will obey You by curing the sick, raising the dead, healing the leprous, and expelling demons (Mt 10:8).
Promise: "Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel." -2 Kgs 5:15
Praise: Being in the powerful position of CEO of a major company, Bob humbles himself to receive Jesus daily in the Eucharist.

PM eNewsletter Third Sunday of Lent
March 23rd Third Sunday of Lent
Jesus, help us to truly have a change of heart this Lenten season.
Have it change us into what You want us to become.
Jesus, sometimes we become too worldly, in our thoughts and actions, and this draws us away
from You.
We don't mean to, but we let the world stop us from giving You all the honor and glory that
You so truly deserve.
Help us to focus on You, and let all our thoughts start with, what can I do to please
God? will this action give Him glory?
Jesus increase our faith.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE SCRUTINIES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/23/2014
"Come and see Someone Who told me everything I ever did!" -John 4:29
The catechumens, those preparing to be baptized and enter the Church, will receive today
and on the next two Sundays the ancient prayers called "the scrutinies." In these prayers,
we ask the Lord to scrutinize and purify the hearts of the catechumens. As we accompany the
catechumens in making the baptismal promises on Easter Sunday, so we should accompany them
in the scrutinies.
Today we pray for Jesus to scrutinize our hearts and do in us what He did for the Samaritan
woman. Jesus penetrated five husbands' worth of sin, self-hatred, and self-deception
(see Jn 4:18). The woman felt as if Jesus had told her everything she had ever done (Jn 4:29).
It was as if her whole life had flashed before her during her conversation with Jesus. The
Lord is willing to scrutinize and purify us in a similar way.
After Jesus has removed years of garbage from our hearts, the love of God will be "poured
out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us" (Rm 5:5). After emptying
our hearts of sin and its effects, the Lord fills our hearts with love.
Then, we will speak out of the abundance of our hearts (Lk 6:45). Like the Samaritan woman,
we will be witnesses for Jesus, and many people from our towns will believe in Jesus on the
strength of our words of testimony (Jn 4:39). Thus, the scrutinies result in love and a new
evangelization.
Prayer: Father, may I never be the same after these scrutinies.
Promise: "It is precisely in this that God proves His love for us: that while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us." -Rm 5:8
Praise: Praise You, Holy Spirit! You led Jesus into the desert (Mt 4:1) and raised Him from
the dead (Rm 8:11).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official

JESUS, POVERTY AND LENT
LOVING AND SERVING CHRIST
In the poor and outcast we see Christ's face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and
serve Christ.
"NEED TO BE CONVERTED"
When power, luxury and money become idols, they take priority over the need for a fair
distribution of wealth. Our consciences need to be converted to justice, equality,
simplicity and sharing.
"READY TO BEAR WITNESS"
... May this Lenten season find the whole Church ready to bear witness to all those who
live in material, moral and spiritual destitution the Gospel message of the merciful love
of God our Father, Who is ready to embrace everyone in Christ. We can do this to the extent
that we imitate Christ Who became poor and enriched us by His poverty.

THE SINNER-LOVING GOD
"The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, 'This Man welcomes sinners.' " -Luke 15:2
God welcomes sinners and eats with them (Lk 15:2). He loves sinners so much He:
* "removes guilt" (Mi 7:18),
* "pardons sin" (Mi 7:18; see also Ps 103:3),
* delights in clemency (Mi 7:18),
* again has compassion on us (Mi 7:19),
* treads underfoot our guilt (Mi 7:19),
* casts "into the depths of the sea all our sins" (Mi 7:19),
* "will show faithfulness" (Mi 7:20),
* "heals all your ills" (Ps 103:3),
* "redeems your life from destruction" (Ps 103:4),
* "as far as the east is from the west" puts "our transgressions from us" (Ps 103:12),
* runs out to meet sinners (Lk 15:20),
* throws His arms around us and kisses us (Lk 15:20),
* gives us presents to honor us (Lk 15:22), and
* has a special celebration in our honor (Lk 15:23).
God the Father loves sinners so much that He sent his Son to die for us (Jn 3:16). "You can depend on this as worthy of full acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Tm 1:15). "It is precisely in this that God proves His love for us" (Rm 5:8).
Sinner, God loves you even if no one loves you and even if you don't love yourself. Sinner, God loves you with an unconditional, crucified, everlasting, perfect, infinite love. Repent and turn back to Love.
Prayer: Father, I rejoice with Your joy over one sinner who repents (Lk 15:7, 10, 32).
Promise: "Show us wonderful signs." -Mi 7:15
Praise: Jesus set Diego free from a compulsion to use pornography.

REJECTION: THE MAKINGS OF GREATNESS
"The Stone Which the builders rejected has become the Keystone of the structure." -Matthew 21:42
Rejection is one of the most important experiences of our lives. We can respond to rejection by hating and rejecting others. We can spend our lives trying to show those who have rejected us how big a mistake they've made. We can fall into the trap of centering our lives on being rejected.
On the other hand, we can refuse to deal with rejection ourselves. We can cast it on the Lord (1 Pt 5:7). He is the most rejected Person ever, but He will in no way reject us (Jn 6:37). He doesn't get caught up in reacting to rejection. He is caught up in loving everyone, even enemies who reject Him. If we take our rejection to Jesus, we'll be caught up in love. This will lead to a life of true greatness. Joseph, for example, was rejected by his brothers (Gn 37:4ff). However, he didn't build his life around being rejected, but focused on doing God's will, and became one of the greatest men in history.
What we do with rejection will make or break us. Let's fix our eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:2), not rejection. Let Jesus be the Lord of your rejection. He will turn rejection to the good for those who love Him (Rm 8:28).
Prayer: Jesus, I forgive those who have rejected me and give my pain to You.
Promise: "It was the Lord Who did this and we find it marvelous to behold." -Mt 21:42
Praise: Sunil knew that if he became a Christian, his Hindu family would disown him. He chose to follow Jesus, and has served Him faithfully as a pastor for several decades.

DIGGING THE GRAND CANYON
"Between you and us there is fixed a great abyss..." -Luke 16:26
Note that the rich man's dialogue with Father Abraham shows that he knew Lazarus by name (see Lk 16:24). This indicates that the rich man (traditionally called 'Dives') likely knew the poor man lying at his very door.
Twice Dives asks Father Abraham to dispatch Lazarus to perform tasks that a servant boy would typically perform (Lk 16:24, 27). Possibly Dives regarded Lazarus as no more than a servant. Perhaps Dives occasionally sent Lazarus to run errands for him. If that is the case, he certainly took advantage of Lazarus as an occasional "worker," but one without "health care" benefits. Eventually Lazarus stopped being healthy enough to be useful to Dives. At that point, the dogs paid more attention to Lazarus than did Dives.
"More tortuous than all else is the human heart" (Jer 17:9). We men and women can become so hardened of heart that we think only of our needs and not of the needs of others. Is there anyone in our lives to whom we only pay heed if they can be of assistance to us? The great chasm separating Dives from Lazarus in Jesus' parable did not just appear in the afterlife (Lk 16:26); Dives dug that abyss each day that he disregarded his fellow human beings during his lifetime. Though Lazarus lay at Dives' door, it was as though he was on the other side of the Grand Canyon. "If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (see Heb 3:7, 15).
Prayer: Jesus, open my eyes to see all the times when I fail to pay attention to the needy and therefore to You (Mt 25:41-45). "May charity be the root and foundation" of my life (Eph 3:17).
Promise: "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord." -Jer 17:7
Praise: Sharon obeyed God's call to hand out pro-life literature in front of an abortion chamber near a high school. Hundreds of young people have listened to her loving message of life.

FAITH-HEARING
"All depends on faith, everything is grace." -Romans 4:16
In our highly secularized society and churches, our faith is weak. Many Christians doubt the truth of the Bible, Jesus' institution the Church, Jesus' "real presence" in the Eucharist, and even the objectivity of moral standards. In this secularized condition, we desperately need faith and examples of faith. We need St. Joseph, the man of faith.
Joseph made some of the greatest acts of faith in history. He believed that his fiance, Mary, was with child by the power of the Holy Spirit (Mt 1:20-24). Joseph had such faith that he obeyed the Lord's command to take Jesus and Mary and flee to Egypt (Mt 2:13-14). We need the faith of Joseph.
"All depends on faith" (Rm 4:16), yet faith can be rare (see Lk 18:8). The necessity and rarity of faith make it even more important to have all the help we can get to grow in faith. Faith in Jesus is a result of a good, personal relationship with Him. "Faith is confident assurance" (Heb 11:1). It "comes through hearing" (Rm 10:17), as is normally the case with any aspects of a personal relationship. For example, as we hear another person better, we deepen our relationship with this person and develop a confident assurance in their presence. Joseph, having been called to be Jesus' foster-father, heard Jesus' first words. Joseph not only heard Jesus' first words, but many of His words for years. Thereby, Joseph developed a faith that was even greater than he had before Jesus' conception.
Joseph heard Jesus in a unique way. He had great faith. He is willing to share his faith with us. Ask Joseph to pray for you.
Prayer: Father, may I see the full significance of Your calling of Joseph to be Jesus' foster-father.
Promise: "Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before Me; your throne shall stand firm forever." -2 Sm 7:16
Praise: St. Joseph protected Jesus from an assassination attempt.

GUILT TRIPS
"Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool." -Isaiah 1:18
In yesterday's readings, Daniel twice confessed: "We are shamefaced" (Dn 9:7, 8). In today's first reading, the Lord promises to forgive sins that are "like scarlet" or "crimson red." These scarlet sins are those of which we are most ashamed. Shame is a form of self-hatred. We feel no-good, dirty, ashamed of ourselves.
Shame results when we try to deal with guilt by our own power. Guilt is good. It is a normal, God-given reaction to sin. Guilt is the spiritual counterpart to the physical sensation of pain. As pain saves us from being seriously hurt or warns us that we need medical attention, so guilt warns us that something is wrong spiritually. Guilt is part of reality. The question is not: "Will I go on a guilt trip?" All human beings will go on guilt trips. We can't help it. The question is: "When and where and for how long will I go on a guilt trip?"
If we deal with guilt by repenting immediately and taking a short guilt trip to Jesus' forgiveness, we receive love, mercy, and freedom from our sins. If we delay our guilt trip and hope we won't need to take one, we'll eventually take one anyway. The longer we wait, the worse it gets. If we wait too long, we finally take a one-way guilt trip to hell. If we take a guilt trip not to Jesus' love, but to our self-pity, or human efforts, our guilt leads to shame, that is, self-hatred. Therefore, when we sin, we should repent immediately and take a short guilt-trip to Jesus' forgiveness.
Prayer: Father, thank You for guilt, and thank You especially for Jesus and His blood shed to wash away our sins.
Promise: "Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, but whoever humbles himself shall be exalted." -Mt 23:12
Praise: St. Cyril zealously dedicated himself to instructing catechumens during Lent and Easter. His lessons were so anointed that they have been passed on for seventeen centuries.

MORE OR LESS?
"Give, and it shall be given to you. Good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will they pour into the fold of your garment. For the measure you measure with will be measured back to you." -Luke 6:38
In Jesus' time, most people worked the land as farmers. Modern farm mechanization didn't exist. Recall that people wore ankle-length robes at the time. The method of sowing seeds in Jesus' time was for each person to go to the seedpile, grab their garment at the knees, and pull the garment up toward their waist. This created a "pocket," into which the landowner poured as much seed as the person and garment could hold. The person carried the seeds into the field and sowed them by hand until the "pocket" was empty of seed. Then he returned to the seedpile for the next load of seeds. This process was repeated daily until all fields were completely sown.
Jesus promised that those who give will receive in "good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over...[poured] into the fold of" their garment (Lk 6:38; see also Ru 3:15; Mal 3:10). This means that you who give to Jesus will receive even more work to do. However, you will be given more resources with which to serve Him, and your work will result in a great harvest, even a hundredfold one (Mk 4:20).
Jesus challenges each of us this Lent to work for Him more than ever before. His heart yearns for all to be saved and know the truth (1 Tm 2:4). He longs to gather His estranged children under His wings (Lk 13:34). Jesus says to all His disciples: "Listen to what I say: Open your eyes and see! The fields are shining for harvest!" (Jn 4:35) "Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5).
Prayer: Jesus, "Here I am...send me!" (Is 6:8)
Promise: "Pardon, and you shall be pardoned." -Lk 6:37
Praise: St. Patrick, kidnap victim and runaway slave, freely returned to the land of his kidnappers and former slavemasters in order to bring Jesus to them.

PM eNewsletter Second Sunday of Lent
March 16th 2nd Sunday of Lent
Lord God, we have asked You for more faith, hope and love.
Please Jesus, open our hearts, souls and minds to really let go and let You totally take
over in our lives.
Fill us with the grace needed to truly do this, and really see others through Your eyes.
Jesus, the world has become what it always becomes, selfish.
Jesus, let us be in the world, but let us work and act from Your world of love and
forgiveness.
Lord, it is so easy to slip into the cares and worries of today.
So Christ, lift us up, and let us praise and adore You our living God.
Jesus, let us celebrate this lent, as a time of rooting out all the things that causes us to
be fearful of the future.
Let us all realize, that nothing is happening that You aren't totally aware of, and that You
have already worked out the perfect plan for all of us.
Let us prepare for our home coming this Lent.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday CONVERSATION PEACE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/16/2014
"Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them conversing with Him." -Matthew 17:3
It is extremely important that we hear the Lord and converse with Him. The most important
conversation we will ever have with the Lord will be on the subject of His death and
resurrection. However, this is the most difficult subject of conversation for us.
Jesus' transfiguration was an attempt to help us converse with Him about His death and
resurrection. When we see Jesus glorified, we realize "the sufferings of the present to be
as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us" (Rm 8:18). When we see Jesus
conversing with Moses and Elijah (Mt 17:3), we see how our conversation with Jesus is
supposed to be. Finally, when we hear the Father command us to listen to Jesus (Mt 17:5),
we realize that we'd better listen to Him whether we want to or not.
Never has a conversation ever been so dramatically introduced as the one following the
transfiguration. Nevertheless, when Jesus once again tried to engage the apostles in
conversation about His passion, death, and resurrection, they broke off the conversation.
At Jesus's "words they were overwhelmed with grief" (Mt 17:23). So the transfiguration
seemed at first a failure. However, after the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the
transfiguration took effect (see 2 Pt 1:17-18). Jesus' disciples not only conversed with
Him about His death and resurrection; they even lived crucified and risen lives. Then they
took up their daily crosses and witnessed for the risen Christ.
Prayer: Jesus, may I be fully engaged in conversation with You.
Promise: Jesus "has robbed death of its power and has brought life and immortality into
clear light through the gospel." -2 Tm 1:10
Praise: Jesus is risen! We can live with Him forever! Thank You, Jesus.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
JESUS, POVERTY AND LENT
"OUR PATH OF CONVERSION"
As Lent draws near, I would like to offer some helpful thoughts on our path of conversion as
individuals and as a community. These insights are inspired by the words of Saint Paul; "For
you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He
became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich" (2 Cor 8:9).
"THE GREATEST TREASURE OF ALL"
... What is this poverty by which Christ frees us and enriches us? It is His way of loving
us, His way of being our neighbor... What gives us true freedom, true salvation and true
happiness is the compassion, tenderness and solidarity of His love. Christ's poverty which
enriches us is His taking flesh and bearing our weaknesses and sins as an expression of
God's infinite mercy to us. Christ's poverty is the greatest treasure of all.
CONFRONT POVERTY
In imitation of our Master, we Christians are called to confront the poverty of our brothers
and sisters, to touch it, to make it our own and to take practical steps to alleviate it.
