CHRIST AND THE ANTICHRISTS
"Children, it is the final hour." -1 John 2:18
On this last day of the year, the Church declares that God the Father is warning His children that "it is the final hour." Many antichrists have appeared and are appearing (1 Jn 2:18). The ultimate Antichrist may even be alive and close to his temporary takeover of the world (see 2 Thes 2:3ff).
As deceptive and powerful as these antichrists are, we who have given our lives to Jesus have no reason to be afraid. We "have the anointing that comes from the Holy One, so that all knowledge is" ours (1 Jn 2:20). There is One greater in us "than there is in the world" (1 Jn 4:4). In Christ, we have "within" us the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:17), Who is Power from on high (Acts 1:8) and Who guides us to all truth (Jn 16:13).
"Therefore, brothers, stand firm. Hold fast to the traditions you received from us, either by our word or by letter. May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself...console your hearts and strengthen them for every good work and word" (2 Thes 2:15-16, 17).
End this year totally dedicated to Jesus by accepting Jesus totally - on His terms. He will empower you to become a child of God the Father (Jn 1:12) and fill you with the Holy Spirit. Then you cannot help but have a happy new year.
Prayer: Father, by Your grace, I forgive, repent, and obey. May I go into the new year with no unfinished business.
Promise: "My reason for having written you is not that you do not know the truth but that you do, and that no lie has anything in common with the truth." -1 Jn 2:21
Praise: Pope St. Sylvester I led the Church to the Truth through persecutions from outside and divisions within.

WORLD WAR WON
"If anyone loves the world, the Father's love has no place in him." -1 John 2:15
Most of us believe that love for the world could detract people from receiving God the Father's love. In contrast, the Lord maintains that love for the world will totally displace the Father's love from our lives. Therefore, we must have no love for the world (1 Jn 2:15), make no provisions for the desires of the flesh (Rm 13:14), and crucify the "flesh with its passions and desires" (Gal 5:24). Love for the world is like cancer. Even a little bit of it kills.
The Lord has been extremely clear about our relationship with the world. He chose us out of the world (Jn 15:19), and the world hates us (Jn 15:18; 17:14). Nevertheless, we can choose to be the world's friends and thereby become God's enemies (Jas 4:4; Phil 3:18-19).
As clear as the Lord is about our relationship with the world, many Christians have never gotten the message. Therefore, the Lord has sent as messengers Christians who, like little children, depend on God the Father (see 1 Jn 2:12, 14). These "little ones" are graced by the Holy Spirit to convict us of our worldliness (see Jn 16:8). Fathers especially are anointed to communicate the message of God the Father's all-sufficient love (1 Jn 2:13, 14). In our Father's love, we have everything. We don't need "the world with its seductions" (1 Jn 2:17). Finally, the Lord has chosen young men (1 Jn 2:13, 14) like Paul, Anthony, Benedict, Francis, Dominic, and others to rebel against the world. The message of these young men rocks the world. Because of them, many crucify themselves to the world and live in the Father's love (Gal 6:14).
Prayer: Father, this Christmas free me from the world.
Promise: "She was constantly in the temple, worshiping day and night in fasting and prayer. Coming on the scene at this moment, she gave thanks to God and talked about the Child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem." -Lk 2:37-38
Praise: James sought Jesus in silence, heard the call to monastic life, and accepted his new vocation.

RECEIVING BELIEVING
"Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother: 'This Child is destined to be the Downfall and the Rise of many in Israel, a Sign That will be opposed.' " -Luke 2:34
On the fifth day of Christmas, what does God want to do in our lives? How will our lives be different after the Christmas season than before it? The Lord certainly wants us to grow in faith. He wants us to end the Christmas season and begin the new year with a greater faith than ever before.
The Lord calls us to see like Simeon and Anna. When Jesus was presented in the Temple, hundreds of people had the chance to see the Baby Jesus. Only Simeon and Anna, however, saw Him with the eyes of faith. By faith, they recognized that Jesus was not only a baby but the "revealing Light to the Gentiles" (Lk 2:32) and the Glory of God's people.
As Christmas continues, Jesus wants us to believe much more deeply that:
* He is God (see Mk 14:61-62). Therefore, we must worship and obey Him.
* At Mass, bread and wine become His Body and Blood (see 1 Cor 11:24-25).
* The teachings of the Church and the Bible are God's Word (cf 1 Tm 3:15).
* The Church is not merely a human institution but the Body of Christ (cf Eph 1:22-23, Catechism, 776-777).
* Prayer is communicating with God, and so, prayer is one of our most important and powerful privileges (cf Ps 17.6)
In our agnostic culture of death, receive the miracle of great faith through prayer (Jude 20) and God's Word (Rm 10:17). Receive the ultimate Christmas gift - great and growing faith.
Prayer: "Now, Master, You can dismiss Your servant in peace; You have fulfilled Your word" (Lk 2:29).
Promise: "On second thought, the commandment that I write you is new." -1 Jn 2:8
Praise: St. Thomas imitated Jesus by forgiving his murderers.

EMERGENCY CALL
"A cry was heard at Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation: Rachel bewailing her children; no comfort for her, since they are no more." -Matthew 2:18
At the first Christmas, many innocent children were massacred by Herod. At this Christmas, the Herods of our time still convulse at the reality of God becoming man. They express their repulsion by killing children in and out of the womb through abortion, starvation, and abuse.
For every Herod, there is a Joseph. For every murderer, there is a disciple of Jesus, who will be told by the Lord how to save the lives of children. The Lord told Joseph to "take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt" (Mt 2:13). What is He telling you? You're not responsible to do everything, but you can do something. What is the Lord saying?
Can He talk to you? Are you open to surprises, sacrifices, corrections, or challenges? Are there things you refuse to hear, defenses you won't let down, sacrifices you won't make, and sin you won't admit? The first question is not: "What am I hearing?" but "What am I willing to hear?" The Lord can save lives through you if you let Him talk to you.
Prayer: Father, may I not stand idly by when people are dying (Lv 19:16).
Promise: "If anyone should sin, we have, in the presence of the Father, Jesus Christ, an Intercessor Who is just. He is an Offering for our sins, and not for our sins only, but for those of the whole world." -1 Jn 2:1-2
Praise: "The Holy Innocents gave witness not by words but by their life's blood" (Liturgy of the Hours).

PM eNewsletter The Holy Family
Jesus, You, mom, and Joseph, showed us how to live as a family,
yet most of our families are fractured and broken.
We don't pray together, we don't really worship together, and we don't
really even care to be a family.
We are so wrapped up in our own needs that we don't usually see the
needs of our siblings or parents.
Help us to make the commitment to talk to each other, and spend
quality time together.
Lord, give us the grace to make it happen, and slowly change us all into
holy families, giving glory and prasie to You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday FAMILY PHOTOS

"His parents used to go every year to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover,
and when He was twelve they went up for the celebration as was their custom."
-Luke 2:41-42
Many families have photographs of special occasions. Let's open the photo
album of the Holy Family. Here's a photo of Jesus placed in a manger after
being born in a stable (Lk 2:7). In addition to showing God's love and the
Holy Family's poverty, this photo indicates that the Holy Family was
rejected, as Mary and Joseph were forced to have their baby in a stable.
Families today are also rejected by our culture of death. Moreover, family
members even reject one another. When we see Jesus in the manger, let's
think not only of rejection, but also let us accept the grace to forgive
those who have sinned against us and rejected us.
On the next page of the photo album, we see a photo of the Holy Family's
flight to Egypt (Mt 2:13ff). Like the Holy Family, families are an
endangered species. Many families don't survive. Only by hearing the Lord and
by obeying Him exactly will families be saved and new Herods defeated.
Next we see a photo of the "finding" of Jesus in the Temple (see Lk 2:46).
Families and family members lose Jesus or, more accurately, are lost
themselves. They live separated from their Savior, Love, and only Hope. When
families seek the Lord, especially through spouses and families praying
together, they will find Jesus.
Holy families, forgive rejection, obey humbly, and pray together.
Prayer: Jesus, teach our families to pray together daily.
Promise: "See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called
children of God!" -1 Jn 3:1
Praise: Praise Jesus, holy and risen Lord! Praise You, Father, for sending
Your Son to earth in the care of Mary and Joseph! Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
Care of Creation
"INSTRUMENTS OF GOD"
All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each
according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents. (14)
CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental,
social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents
one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day. (25)
"WORST IMPACT"
Its worst impact will probably be felt by developing countries in coming decades.
Many of the poor live in areas particularly affected by phenomena related to
warming, and their means of subsistence are largely dependent on natural
resources and ecosystemic services such as agriculture, fishing and forestry. (25)

THE THREE "LAST WORDS" OF STEPHEN
"Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." -Acts 7:59
On Good Friday, we often hear about the seven "last words" of Jesus, uttered as He hung dying in agony upon the cross. Today, we hear the three "last words" of St. Stephen, uttered as he was being stoned to death for his faith in the crucified and risen Jesus. In perfect imitation of Christ, St. Stephen said:
* "Look!...I see an opening in the sky, and the Son of Man standing at God's right hand" (Acts 7:56). With St. Stephen, "let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus" (Heb 12:2), so we will able to rejoice in the presence of persecution.
* "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit" (Acts 7:59). Stephen prayed this "as [he] was being stoned" (Acts 7:59). Just before He died, Jesus had prayed, "Father, into Your hands I commend My Spirit" (Lk 23:46). Disciples imitate Jesus in His character and in His ministry. Such a life trains us to respond as Jesus did in every moment of our life.
* "Lord, do not hold this sin against them" (Acts 7:60). This was the last word Stephen spoke before he died. Jesus likewise prayed from the cross: "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34). We speak out of the abundance of our heart (Lk 6:45). If we forgive always, we can speak forgiveness even when persecuted.
A young Jewish man named Saul of Tarsus was glad to witness St. Stephen's death (Acts 7:58; 8:1). Although Saul wanted Stephen killed, he nonetheless heard the three last words of St. Stephen, and eventually converted to become a great apostle. Be a Stephen. Imitate Jesus daily in word and deed.
Prayer: Jesus, may my words bring many to Your kingdom.
Promise: "The Spirit of your Father will be speaking in you." -Mt 10:20
Praise: St. Stephen was "a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit" (Acts 6:5).

KEEP CHRISTMAS IN CHRIST - One Bread, One Body, 12/25/2015

KEEP CHRISTMAS IN CHRIST
"This enduring love came through Jesus Christ." -John 1:17
For hundreds of years, the coming of the Messiah had been prophesied. "They name Him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast and forever peaceful" (Is 9:5-6). However, when the Messiah finally was born, "there was in Him no stately bearing to make us look at Him, nor appearance that would attract us to Him. He was spurned and avoided by men" (Is 53:2-3). "The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their rulers failed to recognize Him, and in condemning Him they fulfilled the words of the prophets which we read sabbath after sabbath" (Acts 13:27). "He was in the world, and through Him the world was made, yet the world did not know Who He was. To His own He came, yet His own did not accept Him" (Jn 1:10-11). Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger because there was already no room for Him in the hearts of many (Lk 2:7).
Jesus, emptied of His glory (Phil 2:7), all too human, the suffering Messiah, continues to be easily rejected. He is so easily rejected that over a billion people can celebrate His birthday without giving Him a present, or even a thought. Will you be among the shepherds who notice Jesus - or even among the wise men who worship Him? Will you be like Mary and Joseph and let the Lord totally disrupt your life - all for the Baby Jesus? Will you put Christ ahead of Christmas? Reject anything in Christmas not pleasing to Christ. Accept Him as Lord and Savior of Christmas.
Prayer: Father, give me a "Mary" Christmas. May I love Jesus as Mary does.
Promise: God "has spoken to us through His Son." -Heb 1:2
Praise: Praise the Christ-Child, Love incarnate!

YOUR BIBLICAL MISSION STATEMENT - One Bread, One Body, 12/24/2015
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday, December 24, 2015
2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16, Psalm 89:2-5, 27, 29, Luke 1:67-79

YOUR BIBLICAL MISSION STATEMENT
"And you, O child, shall be called prophet of the Most High; for you shall go before the Lord to prepare straight paths for Him, giving His people a knowledge of salvation in freedom from their sins." -Luke 1:76-77
Do you have a Scripture verse which is a mission statement for your life? The above verse, Luke 1:76-77, serves as an apt mission statement for St. John the Baptizer's life, along with Isaiah 40:3, which reads "A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!" Luke 1:76-77 is also the Scriptural mission statement for my own life.
Fr. Al Lauer, founder and longtime author of One Bread, One Body, believed that each person has a Biblical verse as a mission statement from God. He considered the following verse to be the Biblical mission statement for his life: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; therefore He has anointed Me. He has sent Me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord" (Lk 4:18-19; see also Is 61:1-2).
From the foot of the manger in which the Infant Jesus lies, the reason for your life becomes ever clearer. With King David, we all are called to build God a house, and work so that His house may be full (see Lk 14:23). Stand in the presence of the Word-made-flesh, God Incarnate. Ask Him to give you a Christmas present by revealing and confirming for you the Biblical mission statement for your life.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to comprehend and live out the mission You have chosen for me. I give You my life.
Promise: "I will give you rest from all your enemies." -2 Sm 7:11
Praise: Martina's crippling arthritis could have led to bitterness. She surrendered her will to Jesus and learned to totally depend on the Lord for endurance and strength.

"CLEAN UP YOUR ACT"
"He will sit refining and purifying [silver], and He will purify the sons of Levi." -Malachi 3:3
Before Christ's coming this Christmas, we must be purified. In fact, that's putting it mildly. We need to be refined by fire and have our crimson-stained sins (Is 1:18) whitened by "the fuller's lye" (Mal 3:2). We need to be purged, detoxified, and baptized in repentance (Mk 1:4).
Most Christians don't consider themselves so dirty as to require such extreme forms of purification. I'm sure Zechariah, being a just man and a blameless priest (Lk 1:6), didn't think he needed nine months of being a mute to "clean up his act" (Lk 1:20). Most Christians think they need to be merely dusted off, not put in a blast furnace.
However, God knows His children better than they know themselves. Most little children don't recognize dirt the way their parents do. The children are quite content to make a mess and live in it. Children don't usually tell parents to clean their rooms, but vice versa. In today's Scripture readings and in this Advent season, God the Father is telling us, His children, that we may be dirtier than we think.
Ask the Spirit to convict you of sin (Jn 16:8). Repent! Go to Confession before Christmas. Be clean and pure - by the Father's standards.
Prayer: Jesus, this Christmas by Your grace I will be pure as You are pure (1 Jn 3:3).
Promise: " 'What will this child be?' and, 'Was not the hand of the Lord upon him?' " -Lk 1:66
Praise: "O Emmanuel, King and Lawgiver, Desire of the nations, Savior of all people, come and set us free, Lord our God."

THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR
"I have swallowed up my enemies; I rejoice in my victory." -1 Samuel 2:1
Hannah prophesied that the bows of the mighty would be broken (1 Sm 2:4) and that the Lord would lift up the poor to be seated with nobles (1 Sm 2:8). Hannah does not explicitly prophesy the downfall of the powerful but only the empowerment of the poor.
Mary's prophecy in today's Gospel reading is much more revolutionary. She proclaimed that the proud would be confused and the mighty deposed from their thrones (Lk 1:51-52). In Mary's prophecy, the lowly will not join the powerful but displace them. Mary's prophecy was fulfilled in her Son, Jesus.
Herod understood the meaning of Christmas much better than most people. Herod realized that the birth of Jesus would be his own downfall (Lk 2:34), so he tried to kill Jesus (Mt 2:16).
Christmas is revolutionary. Christmas is colored with the blood-red of martyrdom. Christmas is an attack on the world, the flesh, and the devil.
Join Jesus' army. Live and die for His kingdom. Join the Christmas-revolution.
Prayer: Father, I repent of sin and rejoin the forces of Your revolution.
Promise: "The hungry He has given every good thing, while the rich He has sent empty away." -Lk 1:53
Praise: "O King of all the nations, the only Joy of every human heart; O Keystone of the mighty arch of man, come and save the creature You fashioned from the dust."

HOW TO GET GOD TO SING
"Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel." -Zephaniah 3:14
Christmas is Jesus' birthday. Birthday parties often feature shouting and singing. The birthday boy or girl usually shouts when opening the presents. Then, of course, everybody sings "Happy Birthday." If Jesus is going to have a real birthday party this Christmas, we must give Him presents that will get Him to shout and "sing joyfully...as one sings at festivals" (Zep 3:17-18). Pretty packages, a cake, and candles will not get Jesus to sing. In fact, it's difficult to give Him a birthday or Christmas gift because He already has everything - with one exception.
The present that gives God and all of heaven more joy than anything else is repentance and conversion (Lk 15:7). When we take the plank out of our own eye and then take the speck out of others' eyes, we get God to shout and sing (Mt 7:5). When we proceed "in haste into the hill country" (Lk 1:39) or into the highways and byways (Lk 14:23) and lead people to Christ, this also calls for a song. As He sings, we sing: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior" (Lk 1:46-47). Then we have a real birthday party and a real Christmas.
Prayer: Jesus, on this first day of winter I ask for a spiritual springtime.
Promise: "Arise, my beloved, my beautiful one, and come! For see, the winter is past, the rains are over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth." -Sg 2:10-12
Praise: "O Radiant Dawn, Splendor of eternal light, Sun of justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death."

PM eNewsletter 4th Sunday of Advent
Oh! Christ, You are about to come again as the babe in the manger.
Please help us to realize that You, as a baby, are all loving and all
forgiving.
That all of our sins can and should be washed away, so that this
year we can end on a note of praise and peace.
We can never truly have peace unless we are truly washed clean
in Your Blood.
Jesus, thank You so much for Your becoming like us in everything
but sin.
Let us be excited that You love us so much that You died that we
might have eternal life.
Let us, this joyous season, lift our voices in praise and glory to You.
Let us be freed from the bondage of sin and soar like the angels
in loving You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE LONG-AWAITED ONE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/20/2015
"Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" -Luke 1:43
During the days of the prophets Micah and Isaiah, things were bad and
getting worse. The poor were oppressed, the threat of war overshadowed
life, and God's people were not about to repent. In the midst of this
darkness, the Lord gave His people hope by announcing through Micah that
someday Someone would be born in Bethlehem Who would bring peace and be
Peace (Mi 5:4).
God's people waited over seven-hundred years for the Ruler-Shepherd of
Bethlehem. He was named "Jesus," that is, "Savior," and He is our Peace
(Eph 2:14). In fact, He is our Lord and God (see Jn 20:28).
This Christmas, this Advent, today, isn't it time to give everything to
Jesus - to live no longer for ourselves but for Him?
(2 Cor 5:15; Gal 2:20) Right now, by God's grace, make the most
important decision of your life. Holding nothing back, give your life to
Jesus, your Ruler, Shepherd, Peace, Savior, Lord, and God.
Prayer: Father, may I not just keep Christ in Christmas but put myself
and Christmas in Christ.
Promise: "By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering
of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." -Heb 10:10
Praise: "O Key of David, O royal Power of Israel controlling at Your will
the gate of heaven: come, break down the prison walls of death for those
who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death; and lead Your captive
people into freedom."

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
Care of Creation
"TRAGIC CONSEQUENCE"
... Blessed Pope Paul VI referred to the ecological concern as "a tragic
consequence" of unchecked human activity: "Due to an ill-considered
exploitation of nature, humanity runs the risk of destroying it and
becoming in turn a victim of this degradation". (4)
"URGENT CHALLENGE"
The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to
bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral
development, for we know that things can change. (13)
URGENT APPEAL
I urgently appeal ... for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the
future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone,
since the environmental challenge we are undergoing and its human roots,
concern and affect us all. (14)

THE LONG-AWAITED ONE
"Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" -Luke 1:43
During the days of the prophets Micah and Isaiah, things were bad and getting worse. The poor were oppressed, the threat of war overshadowed life, and God's people were not about to repent. In the midst of this darkness, the Lord gave His people hope by announcing through Micah that someday Someone would be born in Bethlehem Who would bring peace and be Peace (Mi 5:4).
God's people waited over seven-hundred years for the Ruler-Shepherd of Bethlehem. He was named "Jesus," that is, "Savior," and He is our Peace (Eph 2:14). In fact, He is our Lord and God (see Jn 20:28).
This Christmas, this Advent, today, isn't it time to give everything to Jesus - to live no longer for ourselves but for Him? (2 Cor 5:15; Gal 2:20) Right now, by God's grace, make the most important decision of your life. Holding nothing back, give your life to Jesus, your Ruler, Shepherd, Peace, Savior, Lord, and God.
Prayer: Father, may I not just keep Christ in Christmas but put myself and Christmas in Christ.
Promise: "By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." -Heb 10:10
Praise: "O Key of David, O royal Power of Israel controlling at Your will the gate of heaven: come, break down the prison walls of death for those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death; and lead Your captive people into freedom."

I DID IT HIS WAY - One Bread, One Body, 12/19/2015
Judges 13:2-7, 24-25, Psalm 71:3-6, 16-17, Luke 1:5-25

I DID IT HIS WAY
"O my God, rescue me from the hand of the wicked." -Psalm 71:4
The Lord rescues His people by creating new people. Samson (Jgs 13:24) and John the Baptizer (Lk 1:24) from today's readings are examples of this. However, our Western society is a "culture of death." It doesn't want many new people. It is contraceptive and abortifacient rather than fruitful and pro-life.
The Lord rescues His people by calling them to commitment. For example, Samson and John the Baptizer committed themselves to be lifelong Nazirites (Jgs 13:5; Lk 1:15). However, our society believes in avoiding commitment.
The Lord rescues His people by giving us the gift of faith. Those who have faith in Jesus as the Son of God conquer the world (1 Jn 5:5). However, through our secular humanistic culture, we have been programmed to be skeptical and doubtful. We are more like Zechariah (Lk 1:18) than Mary (Lk 1:34ff).
God's ways are as different from ours as the heavens are above the earth (Is 55:8-9). Therefore, we had better change our ways, or we will not let the Lord rescue us. Then we will perish. Do it His way.
Prayer: Father, in this Advent, grace me to change my ways greatly and permanently.
Promise: "In these days the Lord is acting on my behalf; He has seen fit to remove my reproach among men." -Lk 1:25
Praise: "O Flower of Jesse's stem, You have been raised up as a Sign for all peoples; kings stand silent in Your presence; the nations bow down in worship before You. Come, let nothing keep You from coming to our aid."
(For a related teaching, order or download or listen to our leaflet "Clarity, Certainty and Commitment".)
