FAMISHED
"My soul is consumed with longing for Your ordinances at all times." -Psalm 119:20
In our selfishness and injustice, we are setting ourselves up for a famine for hearing the Word of the Lord (Am 8:11). When we sin, we contribute to a society which closes its ears and hearts to God's Word. In many corporations, God's Word is not welcome and not tolerated. For Christians such as myself who work in such situations of a famine for God's Word in the workplace, we long for His Word. During our time at work, we say: "I long for Your precepts…hide not Your commands from me" (Ps 119:40, 19). "I gasp with open mouth in my yearning for Your commands" (Ps 119:131). A famine for hearing God's Word results in widespread spiritual anorexia, loss of vision, and demoralized, even perishing people (Prv 29:18).
The Word of God, especially the prophetic word, brings life in place of dead bones (Ez 37:4ff). It brings light, strength, nourishment, vision, wisdom, courage, and victory. It also brings persecution to those who spread it.
Jesus sees His hungry people and commands His disciples: "Feed My sheep" (see Jn 21:15-17). Will you spread the Word of the Lord and help stop the famine?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, not on bread alone are we to live but on every word that proceeds from Your mouth (Mt 4:4). Help us do our part in spreading Your Word and stopping the famine.
Promise: "It is mercy I desire and not sacrifice." -Mt 9:13
Praise: St. Junipero worked to save souls in Spain, Mexico and California. He baptized over six thousand American Indians during his ministry.

CHICKEN SOUP
"Have courage, son." -Matthew 9:2
The first words Jesus said to the paralyzed man were: "Have courage, son." We need courage to be freed from the paralysis of sin and fear. We should be like Amos, who refused to be intimidated, stampeded out of town, or manipulated by Amaziah (see Am 7:12ff). We need to be like Jesus, Who, when accused of blasphemy and thereby threatened with execution, stood His ground (see Mt 9:4ff).
However, we have all been like Peter, who let himself become paralyzed by fear and then denied Christ three times (see Lk 22:57-60). By the Spirit, we can also be like Peter after he repented. We can stand up under any circumstances, even before our own families or thousands of people, and witness for Jesus (see Acts 2:14).
The Lord will give us the power to be like Him, to be so courageous that we will even die rather than give in to the pressure to sin, deny Him, or not witness for Him. We become courageous by the power of the Holy Spirit, for "the Spirit God has given us is no cowardly Spirit, but rather One that makes us strong, loving, and wise" (2 Tm 1:7). Let's say to each other: "Pray for me that God may put His word on my lips, that I may courageously make known the mystery of the gospel...pray that I may have courage to proclaim it as I ought" (Eph 6:19-20).
Jesus is saying to us: "Have courage, sons and daughters" (see Mt 9:2). Repent and receive the Spirit of courage.
Prayer: Father, may I be courageous in situations where I have previously been cowardly.
Promise: " 'To help you realize that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins' - He then said to the paralyzed man - 'Stand up! Roll up your mat, and go home.' The man stood up." -Mt 9:6-7
Praise: The First Martyrs of Rome have inspired centuries of Christians by their God-given faithfulness.

AN AUTHORITATIVE CHURCH - One Bread, One Body, 6/29/2016
Wednesday, June 29, 2016, Sts. Peter & Paul

AN AUTHORITATIVE CHURCH
"I for My part declare to you, you are 'Rock,' and on this rock I will build My Church, and the jaws of death shall not prevail against it. I will entrust to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 16:18-19
Jesus has decided to give Peter and his successors "the keys of the kingdom of heaven." The keys are a symbol of authority. Thus, the Lord has given authority to Peter, and all of the popes, as head of the universal Church. This authority to bind and loose (see Mt 16:19) is in the areas of faith and morals. In fact, the Pope, as head of the Church, has infallible authority in faith and morals. This makes the Church "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15). In this way, Jesus fulfills His promise that He would send us the Holy Spirit to guide us to all truth (Jn 16:13).
For centuries, critics and enemies of the Church have searched for contradictions in the Church's teachings on faith and morals. They have pointed out sinful and incompetent Church leaders, who have made terrible blunders in their personal lives and pastoral ministry. Nonetheless, the Church's critics have never been able to prove their accusations of the Church's fallibility in faith and morals. Thus, the enemies of the Church have done the opposite of what they had intended. They have further substantiated the fact that, in giving Peter the keys of the kingdom, Jesus has made an authoritative, infallible Church, led by infallible popes in the areas of faith and morals.
Therefore, love the Church (Eph 5:25), and love to submit to her authority.
Prayer: Father, may I make the effort to know the most recent papal encyclicals.
Promise: "Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel to rescue me." -Acts 12:11
Praise: "To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen" (2 Tm 4:18)

SEEK PROPHECY
"Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants, the prophets." -Amos 3:7
The above verse has been an important foundation of Presentation Ministries since our beginning. Our ministry seeks to operate in the prophetic word of God, that now-word (Ez 33:30) which pierces hearts and brings conversion, discipleship, and Kingdom-victory. Prophecy is not necessarily telling what will happen in the future, although that can be part of prophecy. Prophecy is simply speaking or writing what God wants said at the moment He wants it said. The Holy Spirit knows exactly the right word for the right moment that will penetrate human hearts. This book, One Bread, One Body, is intentionally prophetic. We constantly pray to the Holy Spirit to hear His prophetic word and deliver it faithfully.
We have little time left; this world as we know it is passing away (1 Cor 7:31). Our own words often make no impact; God's prophetic word has great impact and cuts straight to the depths of the human heart. It either brings change or rebellion. Sometimes it brings danger or rejection to the messenger. Yet it also brings life and conversion to many.
A prophet has three jobs: listening faithfully and attentively to the Lord every day, discerning what God wants said, and speaking or writing God's prophetic word at the proper time. God does nothing without revealing His plan to His prophets (Am 3:7). This world desperately needs to know and obey God's plan. Are you willing to be a prophet? Ask the Lord for the spiritual gift of prophecy (see 1 Cor 14:1).
Prayer: Lord, teach "me what to say and how to speak" (Jn 12:49).
Promise: "The Lord God speaks-who will not prophesy!" -Am 3:8
Praise: St. Irenaeus preached the Truth to counter heresy and schism.

DISCIPLESHIP COMES FIRST
"Lord, let me go and bury my father first." -Matthew 8:21
Jesus would not allow a potential disciple to first bury his father. Many Scripture scholars have commented that this man's father had not yet died, and so anyone who wishes to be Jesus' disciple must renounce all His possessions, including a potential inheritance (see Lk 14:33). Elsewhere, Jesus said that if anyone comes to Him without hating his father and mother, that person cannot be His disciple (see Lk 14:26, RNAB).
Hate is a strong word. In the language of Jesus' time, there were no words to express the concept of loving more and loving less. The only words in that language were to love or to not love, that is, hate. For a disciple, loving Jesus comes first. All other relationships by comparison seem to be hateful.
Jesus criticizes some scribes and Pharisees for refusing to support their aging parents by pretending to dedicate their finances to God as 'korban' while actually using that money for their own interests (see Mk 7:11). That kind of shifty practice is indeed hating one's parents, but that's not the kind of "hate" Jesus calls His disciples to practice.
When Elisha asked to say farewell to his parents, Elijah permitted it. Elisha kissed his parents goodbye and followed Elijah (1 Kgs 19:19-21). Elisha proved his total commitment to being Elijah's disciple by slaughtering his oxen and chopping up his wooden plow for fuel to cook the oxen to serve the meat to his people (1 Kgs 19:21). Thereby, Elisha had no way to return to farming; he was totally committed.
Jesus calls us to be His disciples. Any possessions Jesus permits us to keep are then used completely to serve Him. There is no turning back. Following Jesus as His disciple comes first.
Prayer: Lord, may I love as You love without counting the cost.
Promise: "To him that goes the right way I will show the salvation of God."-Ps 50:23
Praise: St. Cyril defended Jesus' divine and human natures.

PM eNewsletter 13th Sunday in Ordinary time
June 26th Thirteenth Sunday in ordinary time
This week, oh Jesus, Your church celebrates St's. Peter and Paul.
The apostles that brought our church into existance through their love and fidelity to You.
Their lives were not easy, but their love for You kept them to the task of evangelizing the
world, to bring it in, and under You.
Peter, Your first pope died by crucifixion, and Paul, Your evangelist, died by execution.
Their blood formed the church that would worship You, and give You all honor and glory.
Holy Spirit, lead us to true faith, that we may fully trust in You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday FIREPLACE?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/26/2016
"Would You not have us call down fire?" -Luke 9:54
James and John asked Jesus: " 'Lord, would You not have us call down fire from heaven to
destroy them?' [Jesus] turned toward them only to reprimand them" (Lk 9:54-55). On another
occasion, Jesus proclaimed: "I have come to light a fire on the earth. How I wish the blaze
were ignited!" (Lk 12:49) Sometimes Jesus wants to call down fire; at other times, He doesn't.
Elijah was the world champion in calling down fire from heaven (see 1 Kgs 18:38; 2 Kgs 1:10,
12; Sir 48:3). However, on at least one occasion in Elijah's life, "the Lord was not in the
fire" (1 Kgs 19:12). Why is the Lord in some fire and not in others?
The Lord is not usually in the fire of destruction but in the fire of discipleship. Elijah's
astounding power to call down fire surrounded the greatest ministry of his life, the calling
of Elisha to be his disciple (see 1 Kgs 19:16ff). After Jesus rebuked John and James for
wanting to call down fire on the Samaritans, Jesus focused on the call to discipleship
(Lk 9:57-62). This culminated in the first Christian Pentecost. "Tongues as of fire appeared,
which parted and came to rest on" 120 disciples (Acts 2:3). This led to three thousand people
being baptized into discipleship (Acts 2:41).
The Lord wants us to call down fire if we call forth disciples. "Light a fire on the earth"
(Lk 12:49) to "make disciples of all the nations" (Mt 28:19).
Prayer: Father, set our hearts on fire (Lk 24:32).
Promise: "Remember that you have been called to live in freedom - but not a freedom that
gives free rein to the flesh." -Gal 5:13
Praise: Praise You, risen Lord Jesus, for sending the Holy Spirit to light a fire upon the
earth. We give You our hearts in worship.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
GOD'S MERCY
THE MIRACLE OF MERCY
In an ever new miracle, divine mercy shines forth in our lives, inspiring each of us to love
our neighbor and to devote ourselves to ... the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
WORKS OF MERCY
These works remind us that faith finds expression in concrete everyday actions meant to help
our neighbors in body and spirit: by feeding, visiting, comforting and instructing them. On
such things we will be judged. For this reason, I expressed my hope that "the Christian
people may reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy; this will be a way to
reawaken our conscience, too often grown dull in the face of poverty, and to enter more
deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a special experience of God's mercy"
(Misericordiae Vultus).
NEVER SEPARATE
The corporal and spiritual works of mercy must never be separated. By touching the flesh of
the crucified Jesus in the suffering, sinners can receive the gift of realizing that they
too are poor and in need.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER - One Bread, One Body, 6/25/2016
Saturday, June 25, 2016
Lamentations 2:2, 10-14, 18-19, Psalm 74:1-7, 20-21, Matthew 8:5-17
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062516.cfm
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
"They did not lay bare your guilt, to avert your fate." -Lamentations 2:14
Solomon built a temple in Jerusalem as a dwelling place for the Lord. God was pleased and came to dwell in the Temple. "The Lord's glory filled the house of God" (2 Chr 5:14). During the next three-hundred years, Jerusalem was miraculously spared from attack on several occasions (e.g. 2 Kgs 19:35).
Eventually the people grew complacent and neglected the Lord's commands, falling into lifestyles of sin and injustice. Many "prophets" of the time fueled this lax attitude with "false and specious visions" and "misleading portents" (Lam 2:14). They falsely predicted divine protection rather than judgment and accountability for sin. In 587 B.C., the unthinkable occurred. Babylon besieged Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple, and the Lord did not intervene (2 Chr 36:19). The inhabitants of Jerusalem were killed or exiled. The temple was gone, and so, seemingly, was the Lord. All was unexpectedly lost (see Prv 29:1).
We want to hear about hope and security, but we also need to hear about our guilt (Lam 2:14). We must never grow weary of hearing about our propensity to sin and to backslide. "The things that happened to" the people of Jerusalem "serve as an example...as a warning to us" (1 Cor 10:11). Therefore, "let anyone who thinks he is standing upright watch out lest he fall!" (1 Cor 10:12) The sins of complacency and presumption lead straight to the shock of hell. Repent! Live in the fear of the Lord (Prv 9:10).
Prayer: Jesus, may You find faith in me (Mt 8:10), not smugness.
Promise: "To the centurion Jesus said, 'Go home. It shall be done because you trusted.' " -Mt 8:13
Praise: It was the consistent, frequent homilies given by a priest who did not compromise the truth that helped Vera refrain from worldly ways and lukewarmness toward Jesus.

DECREASING RETURNS - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2016
Friday, June 24, 2016, Birth of St. John the Baptizer
Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062416.cfm
DECREASING RETURNS
"What will this child be?" -Luke 1:66
St. Augustine noted that we celebrate John the Baptizer's birthday after the summer equinox, when daylight begins to lessen in the northern hemisphere, and we celebrate Jesus' birthday after the winter equinox, when daylight begins to increase. St. Augustine connected this with John's statement regarding Jesus: "He must increase, while I must decrease" (Jn 3:30).
Today, may there be more of Jesus in your life and less of you. May you continue this pattern each day until you can truthfully say: "It is no longer I that live but Christ Who lives within me" (Gal 2:20, our transl). Paradoxically, as you decrease and lose your life (Lk 9:24) and are consumed by the fire of God (Heb 12:29), you will not be obliterated (see Ex 3:2). Rather, you will discover who you really are (Mt 10:39). After you "throw away" your life for the Lord (see Is 49:4), the Lord "will make you a light to the nations" so that His "salvation may reach to the ends of the earth" (Is 49:6). When John decreased by directing his disciples away from himself and pointing them to Jesus (see Acts 13:25), the Lord lifted John up to heaven, and we celebrate his birthday even to the present day. Decide to decrease.
Prayer: Jesus, shine Your light through me so that many will turn to You and receive Your saving love.
Promise: "At that moment his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God." -Lk 1:64
Praise: St. John the Baptizer went "before the Lord to prepare straight paths for Him, giving His people a knowledge of salvation, in freedom from their sins" (Lk 1:76-77).
(Grow in your understanding of Baptism and all the sacraments at our Discipleship Center's retreat on the "Sacraments" July 18-20. Wisdom, understanding and grace are gifts from the Holy Spirit given through the sacraments. Call 513-373-2397 to register.)

SAVED FROM THE PITS OF HELL - One Bread, One Body, 6/23/2016
Thursday, June 23, 2016
2 Kings 24:8-17, Psalm 79:1-5, 8-9, Matthew 7:21-29

SAVED FROM THE PITS OF HELL
"Out of My sight, you evildoers!" -Matthew 7:23
How bad can things get? We could unconditionally surrender to the enemy and be led captive into exile (2 Kgs 24:12). The treasures of our faith could be carried off, and we could witness horrific sacrileges (see 2 Kgs 24:13). We could be brought so "very low" (Ps 79:8) that "there is no one to bury" the dead (Ps 79:3). Consequently, the corpses of God's servants became "food to the birds of heaven" and "to the beasts of the earth" (Ps 79:2). Just imagine a dog or a rat chewing on your mother's dead body. How bad can things get?
Why do such atrocities happen? Why does the Lord describe this in the Bible? The Lord is showing us the hellish results of sin. This should lead us to repent. The wages of sin (Rm 6:23) should especially lead us to thank Jesus for saving us by taking our sins on Himself (1 Pt 2:24) and dying for love of us. Jesus has not just saved us from some unpleasantness. He has saved us from unspeakable degradation. Accept Jesus' gift of salvation. Thank Jesus, our Savior - constantly and forever.
Prayer: "I'm forever grateful to You. I'm forever grateful for the cross."
Promise: "None of those who cry out, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven." -Mt 7:21
Praise: Having been freed by Jesus from addiction, Roberta praises God daily for her freedom.

RAISING YOUR "RENT"
"When the king had heard the contents of the book of the law, he tore his garments." -2 Kings 22:11
When King Josiah heard the book of the law read, he rent his garments. Josiah knew that God's people were accountable to obey God's Word whether they cared enough to know it or not. He also knew that God's people were not obeying God's Word and thereby were under condemnation (2 Kgs 22:13). Thus, in deep sorrow for sin and in dread of punishment, Josiah rent his garments.
The prophetess, Huldah, prophesied regarding Josiah and his rending of his garments: "Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: As for the threats you have heard, because you were heartsick and have humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard My threats that this place and its inhabitants would become a desolation and a curse; because you tore your garments and wept before Me; I in turn have listened, says the Lord" (2 Kgs 22:18-19). Josiah was forgiven his disobedience of God's Word, and he was also spared seeing the punishing of God's people (2 Kgs 22:20).
We too may have disobeyed God's Word, and therefore we have "a fearful expectation of judgment and a flaming fire" (Heb 10:27). "Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God. For gracious and merciful is He, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment" (Jl 2:13). "Rend your hearts!" (Jl 2:13)
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to convict me of my need for repentance (Jn 16:8).
Promise: "You will know them by their deeds." -Mt 7:16
Praise: St. Paulinus listened to St. Ambrose, St. Martin, and St. Augustine, and under such holy influence, ultimately became a saint himself.

"MAGNIFY THE LORD" (see Lk 1:46)
"You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth." -2 Kings 19:15
As I write this, I am nearly 30,000 feet in the air, flying home to Cincinnati. From this height, as I look down upon clouds and fields, I can clearly see and experience that the Lord alone is God "over all" the earth (2 Kgs 19:15). My problems back home seem tiny and my God seems huge. In a short time, I will be back on land, unable to see more than a few hundred feet. My problems will suddenly loom larger, because my vantage point has been altered.
King Hezekiah was surrounded by a vicious enemy whose strategy was to attempt to take Hezekiah's focus off of God and divert it to his problems. If only Hezekiah could fly 30,000 feet above his problems, he could readily see how mighty God is and how temporary his problems are. Yet that's exactly what Hezekiah did! Hezekiah "went up to the temple of the Lord" (2 Kgs 19:14) and "prayed in the Lord's presence" (2 Kgs 19:15).
When we come into God's presence, we realize how large and powerful He is, and the world and its problems become small (see Ps 73:25). But when we take our eyes off the Lord and focus on our problems, they threaten to swallow us up (see Mt 14:29-30ff). "Fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1).
Prayer: Father, I will gaze upon Your loveliness constantly (Ps 27:4). May I never take my eyes off of You.
Promise: "The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it. But how narrow is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there are who find it." -Mt 7:13-14
Praise: St. Aloysius received his first Communion from St. Charles Borromeo and last rites from St. Bellarmine.

Bellarmine.

CAUSE AND EFFECT - One Bread, One Body, 6/20/2016
Monday, June 20, 2016

CAUSE AND EFFECT
"They did not listen...they rejected [God's] statutes...and the warnings which He had given them." -2 Kings 17:14, 15
The Israelites experienced the consequences of rejecting God thousands of years ago, and modern society follows the same path. If the causes are similar, why would the results differ?
* Persist in sin; receive the wages of sin: death (Rm 6:23).
* Condemn others, even silently, and be condemned (Mt 7:2).
* Fail to give alms, and cause others to suffer (Sir 14:4-9).
* Fail to evangelize, and reap a godless society.
* Put your trust in contraception and reap a culture of death.
* Sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind (Hos 8:7).
Our sinful, human nature tends toward death (Rm 8:6). However, we have hope in Jesus, Who is our only Hope. When we live for Jesus alone, He breaks the destructive cycle of sin and gives us a new set of consequences:
* Repent, obey God's commands, worship Him alone, and a thousand generations of your descendants receive His mercy (Ex 20:5-6; 1 Pt 2:10).
* Sow God's Word, and reap much fruit (Mk 4:8).
* Trust God, tithe, give alms, sow your money generously for Him, and He will wipe everything clean for you (Lk 11:41), open the floodgates of heaven to bless you beyond measure (Mal 3:10), and let you reap bountifully (2 Cor 9:6).
"I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life" (Dt 30:19). Break out of the vicious cycle. Obey God.
Prayer: Jesus, save me from myself. Save me for a life of obedience, service, holiness, and worship. I give my life totally to You.
Promise: "The measure with which you measure will be used to measure you." -Mt 7:2
Praise: Albert has lovingly attended daily Mass for over forty years.

This week, oh Jesus, Your church celebrates the birth of John the Baptist.
The last and greatest of the prophets, that will herald the start of Your ministry that

walk to the cross, to set us free, and open the gates of heaven.
Thank You Jesus, for the plan of redemption for us that You fulfilled totally, and all
You ask of us is to love one another.
Amen and Amen.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday BODY PIERCINGS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/19/2016
"They shall look on Him Whom they have" pierced. -Zechariah 12:10; John 19:37
In American culture, most women, as well as a number of men, have their ears pierced. In
recent decades, many get other body parts pierced as well. Though people might pierce
their bodies for any number of reasons, body piercing is biblically a mark of slavery
(Ex 21:6). Slaves had their ear pierced to identify them as lifelong slaves (Ex 21:6).
If you've had your body pierced by a piercing gun or tattoo needles, Jesus identifies
with you. He has pierced hands and feet (Ps 22:17). His side was pierced with a sword
(Jn 19:34, 37). "He was pierced for our offenses" (Is 53:5). No one has been pierced as
painfully as Jesus has been. When people look at your piercings, they might admire them
or stare at you, but when people look on Jesus' piercings, their hearts are pierced, and
they mourn for their sins (Zec 12:10). Jesus' piercings have the power to change hearts.
Instead of looking at your own piercings or those of others, look on the pierced Jesus.
Let your heart be pierced with love for Him. Offer your body to Him as a living sacrifice
(Rm 12:1) and a weapon for righteousness (see Rm 6:16, RNAB). Jesus, pierced for our
transgressions, make our hearts like Yours.
Prayer: Prayer: Father, I will glorify You in my body (1 Cor 6:20).
Promise: "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake
will save it." -Lk 9:24
Praise: Glory to You, Jesus, pierced for our sins. Alleluia!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-03.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
GOD'S MERCY
MYSTERY OF GOD'S MERCY
The mystery of divine mercy is revealed in the history of the covenant between God and His
people Israel. God shows Himself ever rich in mercy, ever ready to treat His people with
deep tenderness and compassion ...
GOD'S WAY
Mercy "expresses God's way of reaching out to the sinner, offering him a new chance to look
at himself, convert, and believe" (Misericordiae Vultus), thus restoring his relationship
with him.
MERCY TRANSFORMS
God's mercy transforms human hearts; it enables us, through the experience of a faithful
love, to become merciful in turn.

BODY PIERCINGS - One Bread, One Body, 6/19/2016
Sunday, June 19, 2016, 12th Sunday Ordinary Time
Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1, Galatians 3:26-29, Psalm 63:2-6, 8-9, Luke 9:18-24

BODY PIERCINGS
"They shall look on Him Whom they have" pierced. -Zechariah 12:10; John 19:37
In American culture, most women, as well as a number of men, have their ears pierced. In recent decades, many get other body parts pierced as well. Though people might pierce their bodies for any number of reasons, body piercing is biblically a mark of slavery (Ex 21:6). Slaves had their ear pierced to identify them as lifelong slaves (Ex 21:6).
If you've had your body pierced by a piercing gun or tattoo needles, Jesus identifies with you. He has pierced hands and feet (Ps 22:17). His side was pierced with a sword (Jn 19:34, 37). "He was pierced for our offenses" (Is 53:5). No one has been pierced as painfully as Jesus has been. When people look at your piercings, they might admire them or stare at you, but when people look on Jesus' piercings, their hearts are pierced, and they mourn for their sins (Zec 12:10). Jesus' piercings have the power to change hearts.
Instead of looking at your own piercings or those of others, look on the pierced Jesus. Let your heart be pierced with love for Him. Offer your body to Him as a living sacrifice (Rm 12:1) and a weapon for righteousness (see Rm 6:16, RNAB). Jesus, pierced for our transgressions, make our hearts like Yours.
Prayer: Prayer: Father, I will glorify You in my body (1 Cor 6:20).
Promise: "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will save it." -Lk 9:24
Praise: Glory to You, Jesus, pierced for our sins. Alleluia!

DEFEATED BY ALMOST NOTHING? - One Bread, One Body, 6/18/2016
Saturday, June 18, 2016
2 Chronicles 24:17-25, Psalm 89:4-5, 29-34, Matthew 6:24-34
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/061816.cfm
DEFEATED BY ALMOST NOTHING?
"Though the Aramean force came with few men, the Lord surrendered a very large force into their power, because Judah had abandoned the Lord." -2 Chronicles 24:24
Jehoiada, the priest, brought about a great revival for the people of Judah. They repented of idolatry and adored the true God for almost forty years (2 Chr 23:17). They even restored the temple (2 Chr 24:4ff). However, after the death of Jehoiada, the people of Judah "forsook the temple of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and began to serve the sacred poles and the idols" (2 Chr 24:18). They even killed Jehoiada's son when he prophesied against their idolatry (2 Chr 24:20-22). Because of their sin, the Lord surrendered a very large force of Judah into the hands of a few Arameans (2 Chr 24:24).
In our times, some Christians claim they are the "moral majority," yet a few people have been able to defeat millions of Christians in legalizing abortion, promoting euthanasia, removing prayer from public schools, promoting homosexual acts, etc. Masses of Christians are being defeated by a few non-Christians because we have lost our first love (Rv 2:4). We "are caught up and overcome in" the pollution of the world once more (2 Pt 2:20). Possibly a parent, pastor, or Christian friend has helped us fix our eyes on Jesus. Now that is no longer the case. So we have fallen away, backslid, and have been defeated by even the weakest enemies. "Repent, and return to your former deeds" (Rv 2:5). Rise from sin and defeat into salvation and victory.
Prayer: Father, in Jesus I will be more than a victor (Rm 8:37) and not a pitiful, defeated victim.
Promise: "Seek first His kingship over you, His way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides." -Mt 6:33
Praise: Steven neglected Confession for years, but finally accepted the grace to return to the Lord. Now he gives teachings to encourage people to seek the mercy of Jesus in Confession.

THE MINE-FIELD - One Bread, One Body, 6/17/2016
Friday, June 17, 2016
2 Kings 11:1-4, 9-18, 20, Psalm 132:11-14, 17-18, Matthew 6:19-23

THE MINE-FIELD
"She concealed him from Athaliah, and so he did not die." -2 Kings 11:2
The queen mother, Athaliah, killed off the whole royal family, with the exception of one infant, Joash (2 Kgs 11:1-2). Seven years later, Joash and the priest, Jehoiada, were the central figures in overturning the wicked, idolatrous reign of Athaliah.
This pattern is often repeated throughout God's plan of salvation. An evil system dominates society and destroys so many people that only a few believers survive. Eventually, though, this remnant, by God's power, overturns the forces of evil.
Right now, new Athaliahs are killing off God's royal family. In the USA, one out of three babies in the womb are slaughtered before birth. Many who escape the womb are emotionally and spiritually destroyed by abuse and neglect. Many more become "spiritually brain-dead" after carelessly exposing themselves to the brainwashing from our secular society. They lose their minds, hearts, freedom, and objectivity. Nonetheless, a few Joashes make it through the mine-field of abortion, abuse, neglect, secularization, and brainwashing. The Lord will raise up these people to bring down the strongholds of the evil one (see 2 Cor 10:4) and lead the world to Christ.
Prayer: Father, may I escape to return in victory.
Promise: "Make it your practice instead to store up heavenly treasure, which neither moths nor rust corrode nor thieves break in and steal." -Mt 6:20
Praise: Although feeling alone and afraid, Gladys kept her baby girl until she could be sure she would be adopted. She trusted the Lord to protect both her and her child.

DARE TO SAY "ABBA"
"This is how you are to pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.' " -Matthew 6:9
The writer of Sirach exclaimed: "How awesome are you, Elijah!" (Sir 48:4) Yet the awesome Elijah is only a creature of the totally awesome God. "Let us praise Him the more, since we cannot fathom Him, for greater is He than all His works; awful indeed is the Lord's majesty, and wonderful is His power" (Sir 43:29-30). "To whom can you liken God? With what equal can you confront Him?" (Is 40:18)
Jesus instructs us to address as "Father," "Abba," "Daddy," this awesome, infinite, all-holy Creator-Savior God (Mt 6:9). This is shocking and would be considered blasphemous by anyone who does not accept Jesus' divine authority to authorize such an unprecedented way of addressing God.
Trusting in Jesus, we dare to address God as our "Abba." The Holy Spirit cries out in our hearts "Abba" (Gal 4:6; Rm 8:15). In the intimacy and security of Abba's love (Rm 5:5), we are freed from a "spirit of slavery" leading us "back into fear" (Rm 8:15). We glory in the freedom of being sons and daughters of Abba.
Jesus taught: "This is how you are to pray:" Abba! (Mt 6:9)
Prayer: Abba...
Promise: "During his lifetime he feared no one, nor was any man able to intimidate his will. Nothing was beyond his power." -Sir 48:12-13
Praise: "For I am the Lord, your God, Who grasp your right hand; it is I Who say to you 'Fear not, I will help you' " (Is 41:13). Alleluia!
(Grow in trust of Jesus by reading the Bible every day. We have several series to help you. "Overview of the Bible" is six CD's starting with CD 10A-1 or audio tape AV 10A-1. "15 minute Bible Teaching-New Testatment" is forty CD's with detailed teaching as to chapter and verse starting with CD 700 or audio tape 700.)

LEAVING AND STAYING
"Elisha answered, 'May I receive a double portion of your spirit.' 'You have asked something that is not easy,' [Elijah] replied." -2 Kings 2:9-10
To receive a double portion of God's Spirit, that is, to be filled with the Spirit, is a matter of leaving and staying. We must leave behind sin, selfishness, pride, ego, the world, the flesh, and the devil. In addition to leaving these evil things, we must leave behind good things. For instance, Elijah told Elisha to stay in Gilgal, Bethel, and Jericho (see 2 Kgs 2:1-6). It was good to stay in these places, or Elijah would not have told Elisha to stay. However, Elisha had to leave these places and follow Elijah to receive a double portion of Elijah's spirit. Some of us likewise must leave behind good things, like the possibility of marriage, a comfortable lifestyle, or a particular ministry, so as to be filled with the Spirit.
In addition to leaving, we need to stay with Jesus, as Elisha stayed with Elijah. Then we will be filled with the Spirit. We stay with Jesus by staying with almsgiving even when the Lord challenges us to grow in faith during trying times (see Mt 6:2ff). We also must stay in prayer. We don't want to be like the three sleepy apostles in the Garden of Gethsemani (Mt 26:40). Furthermore, we must stay in fasting, stay in reading the Word, stay in the Church, stay active in being Jesus' witnesses, stay faithful in our vocations, and stay in ministry during good times and bad (see 2 Tm 4:2). By leaving and staying, we are filled with the Spirit and stay that way.
Prayer: Prayer: Holy Spirit, may I let You do everything You want to do in my life.
Promise: "Keep your deeds of mercy secret, and your Father Who sees in secret will repay you." -Mt 6:4
Praise: Sarah and her husband stayed together thanking God their mutual love returned and grew.

DINING WITH ENEMIES
"My command to you is: love your enemies." -Matthew 5:44
We worship a God Who loves enemies, Who does not avoid them but lays down His life for them. When we kneel before the cross, close by the Lord's crucified feet, we hear His words, "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34). For while we were still His enemies, He died for us (see Rm 5:8).
The Lord promised to set us free from the hands of our enemies (Lk 1:74) and to set a table before us in the sight of our foes (Ps 23:5). God's plan is for that table to include some of our converted enemies. The Lord sets us free from our enemies not to be rid of them, but so that we are free to love them and bring them to be free in His grace. God is glorified when we love our enemies. This is precisely how the world will know that we are truly sons and daughters of the heavenly Father: by our love for our enemies (Mt 5:44-45).
Are we willing to suffer? If not, we won't be able to love our enemies. Are we willing to be stretched so far that only supernatural grace continually outpoured each day could enable us to love? Jesus taught us to enter through the narrow gate, which is difficult (Mt 7:13-14). The narrow gate is love of enemies. Instead of allowing ourselves to imagine our enemies downfall, let us discipline ourselves to imagine our enemies' conversion. Imagine them worshipping the Lord in reverence and awe and joy. Imagine them sitting next to us, sharing joyfully in the Lord's banquet.
Prayer: Jesus, may my enemies find the road to fullness of joy in Your presence (Ps 16:11) and my presence as well.
Promise: "You must be made perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." -Mt 5:48
Praise: Pete was persecuted at work, but he kept a Christian demeanor and, eventually, was shown respect.
