HIGH LIFE
"They stood before the throne and the Lamb, dressed in long white robes and holding palm branches in their hands." -Revelation 7:9
The saints stand "before the throne and the Lamb." This applies both to saints on earth and in heaven, for we on earth "have our citizenship in heaven" (Phil 3:20). Although our bodies are not in heaven, our citizenship is, "since [we] have been raised up in company with Christ" (Col 3:1). We became saints when we were raised up with Christ in baptism. We live as saints and grow in sanctity when we set our hearts "on what pertains to higher realms where Christ is seated at God's right hand" (Col 3:1). We are "intent on things above rather than on things of earth" (Col 3:2).
Living as saints means "living high," that is, living with our hearts set on "higher realms." Where is your heart, mind, and spirit? Are you earth-bound in sin or standing around God's throne in praise? Are you aware of having your citizenship in heaven? "It is from there that we eagerly await the coming of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ" (Phil 3:20).
To "get high," to be saints with our spirits in heaven, we must totally give our lives to Jesus, renew our baptismal promises, and repent of our sins. Then we will live in "higher realms."
Prayer: Father, may I enter Your throne room with praise and thanksgiving (Ps 100:4).
Promise: "Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is great." -Mt 5:12
Praise: The feast of All Saints was celebrated by Pope Boniface IV by gathering twenty-eight wagonloads of martyr's relics and dedicating a church for them. Praise the Lord for giving us the communion of saints!

LIVING AND LOVING AS NEVER BEFORE
"Never act out of rivalry or conceit; rather, let all parties think humbly of others as superior to themselves, each of you looking to others' interests rather than to his own." -Philippians 2:3-4
By being baptized into Jesus' death and Resurrection, we receive a new nature. In this new nature, we relate to others quite differently.
For example, we naturally compare ourselves with others and note how we are superior to them in that we look better, dress better, have more money, have a better job, or are more intelligent, more talented, or even more holy. In our new nature, however, we note how others are superior to ourselves (Phil 2:3). We're not interested in looking good but in appreciating the gifts of others.
Naturally, we look at others to see how they fit into our lives and how we can benefit from them. In our new nature, however, we look to others' interests rather than our own (Phil 2:4). We look to serve others (Mt 20:28) and to fit into their lives.
Naturally, we want to be paid for what we do or at least be appreciated. In our new life in Christ, however, we intentionally do things for those who cannot repay us (Lk 14:14) or those who are so ungrateful that they will not appreciate us. We prefer to do things anonymously so that no one will know to repay or thank us except our heavenly Father.
Live the new life of humility, unselfishness, and self-effacing service.
Prayer: Father, give me the mind (1 Cor 2:16) and attitude (see Phil 2:5) of Christ.
Promise: "I have stilled and quieted my soul like a weaned child." -Ps 131:2
Praise: Clara joyfully volunteers at a soup kitchen, blessing everyone who comes.

October 30th, 31st Sunday in ordinary time
This week, Jesus, we celebrate all saints, and all souls day.
Help us to truly pray for all people who are being totally purified and purged of effects
of sin in purgatory.
Help us to intercede with the saints who can go before You for all those souls.
Help us to totally realize that You are the true intercessor before the Father, but that
You want the saints, and us, to also intercede for the graces we all need to someday come
to You as unstained as possible.
Thank You for loving us eternally.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE RETURN OF THE PENITENTIAL PEOPLE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/30/2016
"Today salvation has come to this house." -Luke 19:9
After salvation had come to his house, Zacchaeus immediately stated his intent to make
reparation for the damage done by him through his sins. This is traditionally called "doing
penance." Zacchaeus "said to the Lord: 'I give half my belongings, Lord, to the poor. If I
have defrauded anyone in the least, I pay him back fourfold' " (Lk 19:8). Likewise, if we have
truly repented from our sins, we will want to do penance and repair in some way the damage done
by our sins.
Because sin is such a great evil, its damage is very extensive. Zacchaeus realized this. So he
began to make partial reparation by giving half of his possessions to the poor. Because
Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector and tax collecting was a lucrative business, half of
Zacchaeus' assets could probably be at least the equivalent of several hundred thousand dollars.
This shows the extent of the need to make reparation and do penance.
The indulgences given by the Church also imply that the victims of sin are severely damaged. An
indulgence is the Church's application of Christ's merits and the Church's share in those merits
to the repair due to sin. Unless the repair job was extensive, why would we need help of such
magnitude?
Purgatory is partly for reparation of the damaging effects of sin. This again implies that
justice and love require reparation for our sins and that this repairing is extensive.
Zacchaeus is a patron of reparation and penance. Let us follow his example and return to being a
people of penance.
Prayer: Father, through the sacrifices of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting, make my life
increasingly penitential.
Promise: "You have mercy on all, because You can do all things; and You overlook the sins of men
that they may repent." -Wis 11:23
Praise: Glory, power, and might to the Lamb of God!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-10.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA
"DARING AND COURAGE"
Following Jesus is a serious task, and at the same time, one filled with joy; it takes a certain
daring and courage to recognize the divine Master in the poorest of the poor and those who are
cast aside, and to give oneself in their service.
"GENEROUS DISPENSER"
Mother Teresa ... was a generous dispenser of divine mercy, making herself available for everyone
through her welcome and defense of human life, those unborn and those abandoned and discarded.
She was committed to defending life, ceaselessly proclaiming that "the unborn are the weakest,
the smallest, the most vulnerable." She bowed down before those who were spent, left to die on
the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity; she made her voice heard before the
powers of the world ...
SAINT OF MERCY
For Mother Teresa, mercy was the "salt" which gave flavor to her work, it was the "light" which
shone in the darkness of the many who no longer had tears to shed for their poverty and suffering.

THE RETURN OF THE PENITENTIAL PEOPLE
"Today salvation has come to this house." -Luke 19:9
After salvation had come to his house, Zacchaeus immediately stated his intent to make reparation for the damage done by him through his sins. This is traditionally called "doing penance." Zacchaeus "said to the Lord: 'I give half my belongings, Lord, to the poor. If I have defrauded anyone in the least, I pay him back fourfold' " (Lk 19:8). Likewise, if we have truly repented from our sins, we will want to do penance and repair in some way the damage done by our sins.
Because sin is such a great evil, its damage is very extensive. Zacchaeus realized this. So he began to make partial reparation by giving half of his possessions to the poor. Because Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector and tax collecting was a lucrative business, half of Zacchaeus' assets could probably be at least the equivalent of several hundred thousand dollars. This shows the extent of the need to make reparation and do penance.
The indulgences given by the Church also imply that the victims of sin are severely damaged. An indulgence is the Church's application of Christ's merits and the Church's share in those merits to the repair due to sin. Unless the repair job was extensive, why would we need help of such magnitude?
Purgatory is partly for reparation of the damaging effects of sin. This again implies that justice and love require reparation for our sins and that this repairing is extensive.
Zacchaeus is a patron of reparation and penance. Let us follow his example and return to being a people of penance.
Prayer: Father, through the sacrifices of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting, make my life increasingly penitential.
Promise: "You have mercy on all, because You can do all things; and You overlook the sins of men that they may repent." -Wis 11:23
Praise: Glory, power, and might to the Lamb of God!

"ALL THAT MATTERS"
"He went on to address a parable to the guests, noticing how they were trying to get the places of honor at the table." -Luke 14:7
Throughout history, some Christians have promoted Jesus with the wrong motives. For example, some proclaimed the Gospel to make Paul's "imprisonment even harsher" (Phil 1:17). Some thought that by enthusiastically proclaiming Jesus they would provoke the Romans to torture or kill Paul who was in prison on death row. This is possibly one of the most perverse motives for spreading the Gospel ever acted upon. However, Paul's reaction to this was: "What of it? All that matters is that in any and every way, whether from specious motives or genuine ones, Christ is being proclaimed! That is what brings me joy" (Phil 1:18).
Paul does not intend to encourage evil motives but rather to declare that these are overshadowed by the proclamation of the Gospel. Today many continue to preach Jesus for the evil motives of greed, pride, and ambition. This is lamentable, but still the Good News is always more important than the bad news. Although the secular media report in great prominence and detail all the sins of Christian leaders, the most important part of the story has again been omitted. "All that matters is that...Christ is being proclaimed" (Phil 1:18). "God must be proved true even though every man be proved a liar" (Rm 3:4). The Lord will be glorified through us or despite us. "Blessed be the name of the Lord" (Jb 1:21).
Prayer: Jesus, no matter what happens to me, be glorified.
Promise: "For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled and he who humbles himself shall be exalted." -Lk 14:11
Praise: Peter uses Scripture quotes even among his non-Christian friends and it has effect.

APOSTLES OF TRUTH - One Bread, One Body, 10/28/2016
"Saint Teresa of Calcutta" is the title of the latest issue of Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth.

APOSTLES OF TRUTH
Jesus "went out to the mountain to pray, spending the night in communion with God. At daybreak He called His disciples and selected twelve of them to be His apostles." -Luke 6:12-13
How do we know which books are in the Bible? The Church has been given the authority to say which books are in the Bible. How do we know which church is the true Church? The Church which can trace its origins back to the apostles is the true Church because Jesus founded the Church on the apostles (Eph 2:20; Lk 6:13). Therefore, without the apostolicity of the Church, we would not know which books are in the Bible.
Many holy and learned Christians sincerely don't believe that Jesus gives us His body and blood in Holy Communion. Other Christians believe that Jesus literally meant "This is My body" and "This is My blood" (Mt 26:26, 28). Who is right? The Church alone is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15) and can decide this matter and thousands of other disagreements about interpreting the Bible. Once again, however, we must be able to recognize the true Church. The Church founded by Jesus is recognized by its apostolicity.
Because the apostolicity of the Church has such mammoth ramifications, we celebrate in a special way the feasts of the apostles, including today's feast of St. Simon and St. Jude. Today, we celebrate the true Church and its authority in service to the truth.
Prayer: Father, may the truth set me free (Jn 8:32).
Promise: "In Him you are being built into this temple, to become a dwelling place for God in the Spirit." -Eph 2:22
Praise: Sts. Simon and Jude "went from village to village, spreading the good news everywhere and curing diseases" (Lk 9:6).

DON'T BUDGE - One Bread, One Body, 10/27/2016
Thursday, October 27, 2016
Ephesians 6:10-20, Psalm 144:1-2, 9-10, Luke 13:31-35

DON'T BUDGE
"Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm." -Ephesians 6:11
Christians put on the armor of God so that we "may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil" (Eph 6:11). Our goal in battle is to hold our ground and stand fast (Eph 6:13-14). The devil's goal in battle is to get us to move, to manipulate us.
If we are in the right place at the right time, we are anointed with the power of God. In that God-given place, we are invincible. Accordingly, the devil's goal is to deceive, push, and pressure us to give an inch. When we are out of place, even slightly, we no longer draw our "strength from the Lord and His mighty power" (Eph 6:10), but are on our own. Relying on ourselves, we are no match for the devil, and we can't even claim the victory Jesus has already won.
For example, the devil tried to get Jesus to give an inch. Certain Pharisees told Jesus: "Leave this place! Herod is trying to kill You" (Lk 13:31). But Jesus refused to deviate in even the slightest way from doing His Father's will. Finally, while hanging in crucified agony, Jesus was tempted to come down from the cross (Mt 27:40). He refused to budge and thereby conquered the evil one. "Hold your ground" (Eph 6:13).
Prayer: Father, may I never let the evil spirit move me, and may I always let the Holy Spirit move me!
Promise: "At every opportunity pray in the Spirit, using prayers and petitions of every sort. Pray constantly and attentively for all in the holy company." -Eph 6:18
Praise: Brenda refused to contracept and her husband agreed to accept all the children God gave them.

WORK IT OUT - One Bread, One Body, 10/26/2016

Ephesians 6:1-9, Psalm 145:10-14, Luke 13:22-30

WORK IT OUT
"Slaves, obey your human masters with the reverence, the awe, and the sincerity you owe to Christ." -Ephesians 6:5
When the Bible uses the word "slave," it means "employee" according to our language. God's Word commands us to obey our bosses with the reverence, awe, and sincerity we owe to Christ. This applies even to unreasonable employers. "You household slaves, obey your masters with all deference, not only the good and reasonable ones but even those who are harsh. When a man can suffer injustice and endure hardship through his awareness of God's presence, this is the work of grace in him" (1 Pt 2:18-19).
This amazing way of relating to bosses has a powerful evangelistic impact. "Slaves are to be submissive to their masters. They should try to please them in every way, not contradicting them nor stealing from them, but expressing a constant fidelity by their conduct, so as to adorn in every way possible the doctrine of God our Savior" (Ti 2:9-10).
Remember, we're not "working for perishable food but for food that remains unto life eternal" (Jn 6:27). If we're going to lead bosses and co-workers to the new, abundant, and eternal life with Jesus, we must work with and relate to others on the job in a different way. We "do not render service for appearance only and to please men, but do God's will" with our whole hearts (Eph 6:6). We give our "service willingly, doing it for the Lord rather than men" (Eph 6:7). Let's work so as to let God work through us. A few short years from now when everyone's retired, our workplace will have a reunion in heaven. May not one boss or co-worker be missing.
Prayer: Father, may I see myself as pastor of my workplace and my co-workers as the members of my church. Work through me.
Promise: "Try to come in through the narrow door." -Lk 13:24
Praise: Jerry and his boss stop their work to pray the Angelus together at noon each day.

VOCATION SHORTAGE - One Bread, One Body, 10/25/2016
Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Ephesians 5:21-33, Psalm 128:1-5, Luke 13:18-21
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102516.cfm
VOCATION SHORTAGE
"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church. He gave Himself up for her." -Ephesians 5:25
Much attention and prayer is devoted to the priest shortage in the Church. The Church in her wisdom has resisted watering down the requirements for the priesthood. A vocation crisis also exists in Christian marriage. In the USA, the very definition of marriage as the union between one man and one woman (Catechism, 1660) is under attack. Half of Catholic marriages end in divorce, while many couples who have not divorced are miserable.
A vocation is a supernatural calling, not a natural one. We cannot live our God-given vocation by lowering God's standards. Rather than making marriage "easier" by requiring less and operating in the natural, we must live marriage in the supernatural by a life in the Spirit, and daily seeking and receiving the grace of holy matrimony available in the Spirit.
Minimizing marriage by cutting back, contracepting, or taking shortcuts simply is another way of quenching the Spirit (Eph 4:30). This is quenching love. This is not giving all. When we don't give all, we don't get all. Instead of making marriage easier, we make it harder because we block the Spirit of life, and move toward death rather than new life.
Give all to your vocation. Holy Catholic marriages have great power to break the vocations crisis by being the seedground of holy and consecrated vocations (see Gal 6:7-8). Just as good priests attract future priests to the priesthood, good marriages attract other good marriages and foster holy vocations.
Prayer: Father, may I throw myself into my vocation and abandon my life into Your hands.
Promise: "Happy are you who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways!" -Ps 128:1
Praise: Robert and Sarah got back together when they got God back into their marriage.

THE SLIDE RULES? - One Bread, One Body, 10/24/2016

THE SLIDE RULES?
"Make no mistake about this: no fornicator, no unclean or lustful person - in effect an idolater - has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God." -Ephesians 5:5
Years ago before there were electronic calculators, there were slide rules by which certain types of computations could be easily made. Today, possibly more than ever, we have a different kind of slide rule. Many people have let rules, laws, standards, convictions, and commandments slide. For example, Jesus told us to gouge out our eyes if we were tempted to look lustfully (Mt 5:28-29). The Lord made clear that "lewd conduct or promiscuousness or lust of any sort" should be not mentioned (Eph 5:3). "Nor should there be any obscene, silly, or suggestive talk" (Eph 5:4).
Many people are slipping and sliding regarding these rules and commands from Jesus. Many in our culture used to think that lust was wrong. Then lust without fornication became acceptable to many. Next, fornication without adultery was OK in the sliding scale of values. Then sexual promiscuity with contraception and without pregnancy and abortion was OK. As sexual morality slid ever downward, heterosexual relations, including abortion, was OK as long as it wasn't a late-term abortion. Sodomy and sado-masochistic sex were once looked down on. Now almost any perversion is flaunted except sexually abusing children. What's next? Rape, demonic sexual rituals, bestiality, orgies, etc. When we let the truth slide, we find out how deep the pits of perversion are. Turn to Jesus, the Truth Who never changes.
Prayer: Father, by the truth free me from the slavery caused by permissiveness.
Promise: "He laid His hand on her, and immediately she stood up straight and began thanking God." -Lk 13:13
Praise: St. Anthony opposed godlessness in both Spain and Cuba. He continued to preach Christ in the face of several assassination attempts.

October 23rd, 30th Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, as we prepare for a change of seasons, help us also prepare for a change in our attitude
toward learning more about You everyday of our lives.
Let us come to realize that You are really the way, the truth and the only way to live life.
Let us focus on adoring You everyday by prayer and mass if possible.
Let us spend time in adoration to You.
Let us sit in Your presence and get the graces we need to truly be Your representatives on earth.
Let us bring others to You by how we live our lives.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday "I MUST DECREASE" (Jn 3:30)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/23/2016
Jesus "spoke this parable addressed to those who believed in their own self-righteousness..."
-Luke 18:9
The Pharisee's piety was admirable. He tithed ten percent of his gross income. He fasted two
days a week, probably a very severe fast. How many of us tithe and fast to that extent?
However, St. Luke points out specifically that his "prayer" was directed to himself, not to
God (Lk 18:11, JB, RSV-CE). He compared his virtue to the standards of other people, not to
the standards of God.
The tax collector's piety was not admirable. The tax collectors of Jesus' time were Jews who
worked for the Romans. They routinely extorted their own people to get a better commission.
Perhaps this was the only time this man had even been to the Temple. But this tax collector
possessed the vision to see his own lowliness before God. He also avoided comparing himself
to others. Instead, He compared his own sinful life to the holiness of God, and cast himself
upon the mercy of God (Lk 18:13).
In today's second reading, St. Paul seems to resemble the Pharisee more than the tax collector.
He "boasts" about how he, too, has been faithful to God (see 2 Tm 4:7). However, St. Paul's
comments were a testimony to the Lord's faithfulness rather than a litany of self-praise meant
for God to overhear. Paul gives credit to God for any good he has done. The Pharisee gives
credit to himself, rejecting God's goodness in his life.
Any good thing in our lives is God's doing (Phil 2:13). "Name something you have that you have
not received," particularly a spiritual talent or gift. "If, then, you have received it, why
are you boasting as if it were your own?" (1 Cor 4:7)
Prayer: Jesus, You "must increase, while I must decrease" (Jn 3:30).
Promise: "The Lord redeems the lives of His servants." -Ps 34:23
Praise: Praise Jesus, Redeemer, Messiah, and risen King!

Hello. My son, Colton, is 16 years old & received a terrible hit to thigh in a football game. As
a result, a huge calcification has formed (bone) which means bone is woven into a large portion
of his thigh muscle. This cannot be operated on. We are asking for a speedy recovery & for our
son to have full range of motion & be 100% again. We believe in prayer & we ask our Lord in
heaven to please make this calcification reabsorb into his body. Thank you so much.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-09.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
MISSION AND MERCY
"GOD'S GIFT"
Faith is God's gift and not the result of proselytizing; rather it grows thanks to the faith
and charity of evangelizers who witness to Christ.
"A LOVE WITHOUT LIMITS"
As they travel through the streets of the world, the disciples of Jesus need to have a love
without limits, the same measure of love that our Lord has for all people. We proclaim the
most beautiful and greatest gifts that he has given us: His life and His love.
A GIFT FOR ALL
All peoples and cultures have the right to receive the message of salvation which is God's

A GIFT FOR ALL
All peoples and cultures have the right to receive the message of salvation which is God's
gift to every person... Missionaries know from experience that the Gospel of forgiveness and
mercy can bring joy and reconciliation, justice and peace.

HYPOCRITICAL LEAVES - One Bread, One Body, 10/22/2016
Saturday, October 22, 2016, Pope St. John Paul II
Ephesians 4:7-16, Psalm 122:1-5, Luke 13:1-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102216.cfm
HYPOCRITICAL LEAVES
"Look here! For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree and found none. Cut it down. Why should it clutter up the ground?" -Luke 13:7
We don't hear of Jesus cursing straggly, leafless trees. Rather, He cursed good-looking trees with lots of foliage but no fruit (Mt 21:19). Likewise, in Jesus' letters to the churches in Revelation, He does not threaten to close bad-looking churches but ones that have great reputations yet little fruit. For example, to the church of Sardis, Jesus says: "I know the reputation you have of being alive, when in fact you are dead! Wake up" (Rv 3:1-2). To Laodicea, Jesus declares: "You keep saying, 'I am so rich and secure that I want for nothing.' Little do you realize how wretched you are, how pitiable and poor, how blind and naked! Take my advice" (Rv 3:17-18).
To the Church of today, Jesus may be saying the same thing. Yes, we have more foliage than ever - buildings, finances, and programs more than at any other time in the history of Christ's Church. Yet how much fruit is there under all those leaves? I know churches with half-million dollar budgets and five catechumens. Of course, the Church has the responsibility to take care of its old fruit, but where is the new harvest? Jesus curses just leaves. Leaves without fruit are hypocritical.
Prayer: Father, make me a tree which has more fruit than leaves.
Promise: "When He ascended on high, He took a host of captives and gave gifts to men." -Eph 4:8
Praise: Pope St. John Paul II bore much fruit both during his long pontificate and in his timeless writings.

"There is but one body and one Spirit." -Ephesians 4:4
We must "make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin and peace as its binding force" (Eph 4:3). Without a deep, Trinitarian unity, the world will not have faith that Jesus has been sent by the Father (Jn 17:21). Without faith in Jesus, we will not let Jesus set us free (Jn 8:36). Thus, we will disqualify ourselves from receiving the graces of the Holy Spirit, the essence of which is freedom (Lv 25:10ff). Therefore, we must be one in Jesus to have faith to accept the freedom of the Spirit.
To grow in unity with the Lord and each other:
* Repent and go to Confession, for sin divides God's people.
* Receive the miracle of Trinitarian unity by receiving Holy Communion daily or as often as possible.
* Forgive those who have offended you.
* Apologize to those whom you have offended.
* Be a minister of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18).
* Pray daily for unity (see Jn 17:20-21).
* Share your faith in Jesus.
* Stir into flame the Holy Spirit of unity (2 Tm 1:6-7).
After we accept a new Pentecost of unity, we will have the Holy Spirit's freedom.
Prayer: Father, if necessary, may I die for Your gift of unity to be accepted (see Jn 11:51-52).
Promise: "There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, Who is over all, and works through all, and is in all." -Eph 4:5-6
Praise: Helen rejoiced when her husband finally joined her in the Catholic Church and they could receive Jesus together.

* Be a minister of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18).

FAMILY VALUES
"That is why I kneel before the Father from Whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name; and I pray." -Ephesians 3:14-16
Jesus is the second Person of the Trinity. The Trinity is the eternal, ultimate Holy Family. After His Incarnation, Jesus lived in another holy family with Mary and Joseph. Therefore, Jesus has high standards for family life. He calls families to be holy, sacramental signs of the Trinity as Family.
To make holy, Trinitarian families, Jesus:
* lights "a fire on the earth" to purify families (Lk 12:49),
* was baptized, that is, immersed in, the pain of His death on the cross (see Lk 12:50; Mk 10:38),
* surfaces the divisions in families in order to deal with them through forgiveness, repentance, and healing (see Lk 12:51ff),
* dwells in the hearts of family members through faith (Eph 3:17),
* enables us "to grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of" His love (Eph 3:18), and
* does "immeasurably more than we ask or imagine" (Eph 3:20).
Jesus is offering each of us the miracle of a holy, Trinitarian family. Accept His offer by accepting Him as Savior and Lord of your life and your family.
Prayer: Father, make my family a miracle and Your masterpiece.
Promise: "To Him Whose power now at work in us can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine..." -Eph 3:20
Praise: St. Paul of the Cross and his Passionist priests have evangelized far beyond Italy. He had a special ministry to the sick, the dying, the lapsed, and the sinner needing reconciliation.

COME, LORD JESUS, TODAY! (see Rv 22:20) - One Bread, One Body, 10/19/2016
Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Sts. John de Brebeuf,, Isaac Jogues & Companions

COME, LORD JESUS, TODAY! (see Rv 22:20)
"Be on guard, therefore. The Son of Man will come when you least expect Him." -Luke 12:40
When we expect the world to end and Jesus to come back at any time, we are:
* on guard against the evil one (see Lk 12:40; 1 Pt 5:8-9),
* trying to be "faithful, farsighted" stewards for the Lord (Lk 12:42),
* busy (Lk 12:43) showing our love for Jesus by feeding His sheep, that is, His people (see Jn 21:15-17; Lk 12:42),
* loving others rather than hurting them (see Lk 12:45), and
* more likely to fight temptations and compulsions (see Lk 12:45).
When we expect Jesus to come back today, we live today probably much more faithfully than we would have otherwise.
Therefore, lift up your eyes to "see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with great power and glory" (Lk 21:27). Proclaim throughout the day: "Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again." Shout with the Christians of all times: "Maranatha!" ("Come, Lord Jesus!") (1 Cor 16:22; Rv 22:20) "See, He comes amid the clouds! Every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him" (Rv 1:7). Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
Prayer: Jesus, as soon as possible "come again in glory to judge the living and the dead" (Nicene Creed).
Promise: "More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted." -Lk 12:48
Praise: The North American missionaries became martyrs by dying as they lived, with and for Christ.

NOT A DOCTORAL THESIS - One Bread, One Body, 10/18/2016

NOT A DOCTORAL THESIS
"I have no one with me but Luke." -2 Timothy 4:11
St. Luke was a doctor (Col 4:14). The Bible commands us to honor doctors, for their profession has been established by God (Sir 38:1). Although Luke had such a distinguished profession (see Sir 38:3), he apparently put it aside in the light of the surpassing knowledge of His Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:8). In the fifty-two chapters of the Bible that Luke compiled (Luke and Acts), there is hardly any indication of him being a doctor. Even when Luke presents Jesus as curing the sick, he does not insert any "doctoral" comments. Rather, he proclaims: "The kingdom of God is at hand" (Lk 10:9, our transl.).
You may likewise be distinguished by your profession, abilities, degrees, or accomplishments. You should thank the Lord for the blessings He has given you, but also be willing to forfeit everything and account all else rubbish so that Christ may be your Wealth (Phil 3:8). Like Luke, you may be called to give up a prestigious position to become an obscure disciple of Jesus. Know, however, that one day in His courts is better than a thousand elsewhere (see Ps 84:11). It is better to "be at the threshold of the house" of God "than dwell in the tents of the wicked" (Ps 84:11). Sell all to buy the precious pearl of God's kingdom (Mt 13:46).
Prayer: Father, may I empty myself as Jesus did (Phil 2:7).
Promise: "The Lord stood by my side and gave me strength, so that through me the preaching task might be completed and all nations might hear the gospel." -2 Tm 4:17
Praise: Writing about the Savior of the world, St. Luke especially emphasized prayer, poverty, and purity of heart.

SAVED FROM AN UNSPEAKABLE HELL - One Bread, One Body, 10/17/2016

SAVED FROM AN UNSPEAKABLE HELL
"You were dead." -Ephesians 2:1
We start life "dead in sin" (Eph 2:5), and we buy into death through our "sins and offenses" (Eph 2:1). In this living death (1 Jn 3:14), we are blinded, manipulated, and drafted into giving "allegiance to the present age and to the prince of the air, that spirit who is even now at work among the rebellious" (Eph 2:2). Satan keeps us in line and enslaved by seducing us to live "at the level of the flesh, following every whim and fancy" (Eph 2:3). Thus, certain sins become our very lives (Col 3:7). When we occasionally get glimpses of our lives of death and slavery, we hate ourselves for our addiction to being seduced and abused by the evil one. Then, we lie to ourselves and try to run away from reality by yielding to more seductions and demonic abuse. Thus, our lives deteriorate "through illusion and desire" (Eph 4:22). Of ourselves, we are trapped and doomed to an everlasting hell of being mocked and abused.
"But God is rich in mercy; because of His great love for us He brought us to life with Christ when we were dead in sin. By this favor you were saved" (Eph 2:4-5). Thank You, Jesus, for saving us from an unspeakable hell and saving us for an unimaginable heaven. Thank You, Jesus, our Savior.
Prayer: Father, You loved us so much that You sent Your Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life (Jn 3:16). I believe in Him with all my heart.
Promise: "Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful song." -Ps 100:2
Praise: St. Ignatius wrote: "He Who rose for our sakes is my one Desire."

PM eNewsletter 29th Sunday in Ordinary time
October 16th, 29th Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, this week Your church celebrates the feast day of St. Luke the evangelist.
St. Luke wrote two books of the new testament that gives us information about the
workings of the early church.
Help us Jesus, to really pray for our church and especially the leaders of the church.
Jesus, let us be prayer warriors for our bishops, priests, and deacons as they lead us to
You.
Let us truly see that the Catholic church is our guide that directs us to eternal life with
You forever.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

"...the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." -Luke 18:1
Jesus teaches us in today's parable to pray in perseverance for our needs (Lk 18:1). Elsewhere
in Scripture, Jesus reveals more about how to pray always with perseverance and power:
Pray by listening to God (Lk 10:38-42).
Pray in a love-relationship with "Abba" (Mt 6:9; Gal 4:6).
Pray with faith. Jesus is always looking for faith (Lk 18:8).
Pray without ever losing heart, that is, not growing weary and not going through the motions of
prayer (Lk 18:1).
Pray the words of Scripture (2 Tm 3:16). Praying the Word of God has powerful force (Jn 10:35).
Pray in confident power with others (Mt 18:19-20; Acts 4:24-31; Ex 17:8-13).
"Pray in the Spirit" (Eph 6:18) using the spiritual gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit directly
intercedes through us in tongues and helps us in our weakness (Rm 8:26).
Pray without ceasing (1 Thes 5:17).
Observe a young couple in love. They spend day after day in each other's presence without
growing weary of each other. Therefore, ask Jesus to give you a new heart (Ez 36:26) and open it
to receive the love He is pouring out through the Holy Spirit (Rm 5:5). Then your prayer will
grow in love instead of growing weary.
Prayer: Father, may I pray not because I want something from You, but always because I want You.
Promise: "All Scripture is inspired of God and is useful for teaching - for reproof, correction,
and training in holiness." -2 Tm 3:16
Praise: Praise Jesus, crucified and risen Lord. All glory, honor, and praise be to You!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-09.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
MISSION AND MERCY
"DEEP JOY"
When mercy encounters a person, it brings deep joy to the Father's heart; for from the beginning
the Father has lovingly turned towards the most vulnerable, because His greatness and power are
revealed precisely in His capacity to identify with the young, the marginalized and the
oppressed ... He is a kind, caring and faithful God who is close to those in need, especially
the poor; He involves Himself tenderly in human reality just as a father and mother do in the
lives of their children...
LEARN TO LOVE
When we welcome and follow Jesus by means of the Gospel and sacraments, we can, with the help of
the Holy Spirit, become merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful; we can learn to love as He
loves us and make of our lives, a free gift, a sign of His goodness...
"LIVES BY THE MERCY OF CHRIST"
The Church ... is ... the community that lives by the mercy of Christ: she senses His gaze and
feels He has chosen her with His merciful love. It is through this love that the Church
discovers its mandate, lives it and makes it known to all peoples through a respectful dialogue
with every culture and religious belief.

Sunday PRAYER LINES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/16/2016
