"ONE'' SPIRIT
"I pray that they may be [one] in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.'' -John 17:21
God created man and woman to be one flesh, crafting a supernatural unity (Gn 2:24). Adam and Eve sinned against God, and with their fallen nature, humanity has inherited a tendency to fracture into disunity. Before long, mankind was so wicked (Gn 6:5) that God wiped them out in the flood (Gn 7:23).
So God started over again with Noah's family, and again the human race began with unity (Gn 8:16). Before long, man's pride again resulted in a false unity, as men joined to glorify themselves rather than God (Gn 11:4ff). So God decided to bring division (cf Lk 12:51), through different languages and physical dispersion.
After many years, God sent His Son "to gather into one all the dispersed children of God" (Jn 11:52). Jesus did this by ascending into heaven and, with the Father, sending forth the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, the Spirit started over again and reversed man's disunity. The apostles and disciples "were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to express themselves in foreign tongues" (Acts 2:4). Dispersed people heard and understood the gospel in their own language (Acts 2:11).
Our fallen human nature tends toward disunity. Yet God makes us "sharers of the divine nature" (2 Pt 1:4) by giving us the Holy Spirit. Only the Spirit can unite us. "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). Come, Holy Spirit of unity! (Eph 4:3)
Prayer: Prayer: Holy Spirit, pour out the love of God in my heart (Rm 5:5). Give me Your heart for Christian unity.
Promise: Promise: "You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in Your presence, the delights at Your right hand forever." -Ps 16:11
Praise: Praise: St. Justin, the first Christian apologist of whom we have writings, promoted the Faith in Asia Minor and Rome.

THE SIMPLICITY OF PENTECOST
"Thereupon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth." -Luke 1:39-40
All Christians are not only to receive Pentecost but also to give Pentecost to others. At the first Christian Pentecost, one-hundred and twenty disciples of Christ (Acts 1:15) received the Holy Spirit at 9 AM. Then they gave the Holy Spirit to almost three-thousand people before the day ended (Acts 2:41). We too must let the Holy Spirit come to us and through us.
Many Christians doubt that they will be able to give Pentecost to others. They are locked in the upper room because of fear, feelings of inadequacy, and self-hatred. They find it difficult to see themselves preaching as Peter preached, healing as Paul healed, or praying as Mary prays.
Today's feast day is one of hope for many of us. Mary brought Jesus and the Holy Spirit to Elizabeth and John not by extraordinary works but by obeying the Lord in little things. Mary visited and greeted Elizabeth (Lk 1:39-40). She loved and served Elizabeth. All of us can do what Mary did. We give Pentecost to others not only by extraordinary acts but especially by obeying the Lord in detail. The Holy Spirit is "given to those that obey Him" (Acts 5:32) and through those obeying Him. Obey; visit; love; serve. Give Pentecost.
Prayer: Father, may I obey You strictly, that is, immediately and completely.
Promise: "The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a mighty Savior; He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in His love, He will sing joyfully because of you." -Zep 3:17
Praise: When Mary visited her cousin, both Elizabeth and John received the Holy Spirit.

THE SPIRIT OF PARADOX
"The Holy Spirit has been warning me from city to city that chains and hardships await me. I put no value on my life if only I can finish my race." -Acts 20:23-24
The Holy Spirit, being God, is paradoxical. The Holy Spirit gives us light to see what we've never seen before. We can see into the future, receive insights about the past, and recognize in the present great opportunities, which we have never noticed before. At the same time, our life in the Holy Spirit often puts us in the position where we have no idea what will happen to us (see Acts 20:22). We see so much more, but we also see that our "so much more" is nothing compared to the blinding light of the mystery of God.
In the Holy Spirit, we receive not only light but life - abundant life (see Jn 10:10). The Spirit makes us more alive than ever before. Paradoxically, however, we receive this full life by dying to self. "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed" (2 Cor 4:10). We have life in the Spirit only because we have death in the Spirit.
Human beings naturally fear paradoxes. Therefore, we fear mystery and the Holy Spirit. But the Lord repeatedly commands us not to fear, and He graces us accordingly. Jesus said: "Fear is useless. What is needed is trust" (Mk 5:36). Come, Holy Spirit!
Prayer: Father, on this fifth day of the Pentecost novena, I accept the grace to trust the Holy Spirit.
Promise: "Eternal life is this: to know You, the only true God, and Him Whom You have sent, Jesus Christ." -Jn 17:3
Praise: After resisting for years, Philip asked for prayers for the Holy Spirit.

TWELVE WEAK MEN
"They answered, 'We have not so much as heard that there is a Holy Spirit.' " -Acts 19:2
The Ephesian believers talked and acted in such a way that Paul questioned whether they had the Holy Spirit. In response to Paul's question, the Ephesians said they had never heard of the Holy Spirit. Paul then found out they had only received the baptism of John. Paul proceeded to tell them about Jesus and baptize them. Then, "as Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came down on them and they began to speak in tongues and to utter prophecies" (Acts 19:6).
Although the Ephesians didn't even know Jesus, they were able to receive Jesus and the Holy Spirit, both within a very short time. Why do some people receive the Spirit right away and others wait for months or even years? The Ephesians could receive the Holy Spirit without delay because they admitted their weakness. They admitted they didn't even know there was a Holy Spirit (Acts 19:2). In their weakness, God's power reached perfection (2 Cor 12:9).
This accounts for the fact that women usually receive the Spirit more readily than men and new believers receive sooner than most of the "old-timers" of the church. The power of the Holy Spirit is not for those who pretend they're powerful but for the "merest children" (Lk 10:21). Will you admit to being weak enough to receive the Spirit?
Prayer: Jesus, I am weak but You are strong. Baptize me in the Spirit.
Promise: "I tell you all this that in Me you may find peace. You will suffer in the world. But take courage! I have overcome the world." -Jn 16:33
Praise: A few men in the parish formed a support group not only for themselves but their pastor, Fr. George.

PM eNewsletter Ascension
May 28th, 2017 Ascension Pentecost Novena - Day 3
This week, Jesus, we celebrate Your ascension into heaven.
Christ, You told us that You would be with us always and that You would send us the
paraclete, Your Holy Spirit.
Please Jesus, as You are now in heaven, sitting at the right hand of the Father,
continue to intercede for us and continue to shower down upon us Your graces, that
we may live and love in, to and through You.
Let Your spirit fill us with love, joy and peace.
Let us all be amazed at the continued love that You shower down upon us.
Let us all ask that Your spirit come and renew us.
Let us all do the novena to the Holy Spirit, that we will all be renewed.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday LOOK UP AND GO OUT

"No sooner had He said this than He was lifted up before their eyes in a cloud which took
Him from their sight." -Acts 1:9
The apostles asked Jesus: "Lord, are you going to restore the rule to Israel now?"
(Acts 1:6) They were interested in knowing the time Jesus would restore the kingdom. Jesus
responded: "The exact time it is not yours to know" (Acts 1:7). Then Jesus proceeded to
bring up what He was interested in - not so much the time but the persons responsible for
restoring the kingdom. The apostles had assumed Jesus would do the restoring. Jesus
shocked them by asserting that they were to do the job. Before the apostles could try to
shift the responsibility back onto Jesus, He ascended, leaving the apostles "holding the
bag," that is, having the responsibility of making disciples of all the nations
(see Mt 28:19). However, Jesus did not leave His Church responsible but powerless. He
promised us the Spirit's power (Acts 1:8) and His presence "always, until the end of the
world!" (Mt 28:20)
Jesus' Ascension means that we, the members of the Church, take up where Jesus has left
off. The responsibility for evangelizing the world is ours; the power of the Holy Spirit
is ours; and the privilege of living and dying for His kingdom is ours. Because He has
gone up, we must go out. Go now.
Prayer: "God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory," grant us "a spirit of wisdom
and insight to know" You clearly (Eph 1:17).

PM Internet Prayer Requests

Jesus said to his disciples: "Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my
name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will
receive, so that your joy may be complete. "I have told you this in figures of speech. The
hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly
about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will
ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and
have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the
world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
COMMUNICATING GOOD NEWS
GOD IS AT WORK
Those who, in faith, entrust themselves to the guidance of the Holy Spirit come to realize
how God is present and at work in every moment of our lives and history, patiently bringing
to pass a history of salvation. Hope is the thread with which this sacred history is woven,
and its weaver is none other than the Holy Spirit.
NURTURE HOPE
Hope is the humblest of virtues, for it remains hidden in the recesses of life, yet it is
like the yeast that leavens all the dough. We nurture it by reading ever anew the Gospel,
"reprinted" in so many editions in the lives of the saints who became icons of God's love
in this world.
BEACONS IN THE DARKNESS
... The Spirit continues to sow in us a desire for the Kingdom, thanks to all those who,
drawing inspiration from the Good News amid the dramatic events of our time, shine like
beacons in the darkness of this world , shedding light along the way and opening ever new
paths of confidence and hope.

Sunday LOOK UP AND GO OUT
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=5/28/2017
Promise: "He has put all things under Christ's feet and has made Him, thus exalted, Head
of the Church, which is His body: the fullness of Him Who fills the universe in all its
parts." -Eph 1:22-23
Praise: Praise the ascended Jesus, "seen by the angels; preached among the Gentiles,
believed in throughout the world, taken up into glory" (1 Tm 3:16).

Jesus' Ascension means that we, the members of the Church, take up where Jesus has left off. The responsibility for evangelizing the world is ours; the power of the Holy Spirit is ours; and the privilege of living and dying for His kingdom is ours. Because He has gone up, we must go out. Go now.
Prayer: "God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory," grant us "a spirit of wisdom and insight to know" You clearly (Eph 1:17).
Promise: "He has put all things under Christ's feet and has made Him, thus exalted, Head of the Church, which is His body: the fullness of Him Who fills the universe in all its parts." -Eph 1:22-23
Praise: Praise the ascended Jesus, "seen by the angels; preached among the Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up into glory" (1 Tm 3:16).

HE'LL COME IF YOU'LL GO - One Bread, One Body, 5/27/2017
Pentecost Novena Day 2 - Saturday
Pray: Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
V. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created,
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of Your faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read:
Acts 18:23-28
John 16:23-28
Be silent
Pray: Father, make me docile to the Holy Spirit as Apollos, Cornelius (Acts 10), and Mary were (Luke 1:38). As in the home of Priscilla and Aquila, may several people be filled with the Holy Spirit in my home. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

HE'LL COME IF YOU'LL GO
"When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him home and explained to him God's new way in greater detail." -Acts 18:26
On this second day of the Pentecost novena, we must think not only of praying the novena but also giving it. We need to take someone home and explain "to him God's new way in greater detail" (Acts 18:26). As we give, we "shall receive, and more besides" (Mk 4:24). At the first Christian Pentecost, one-hundred and twenty disciples of Jesus received the Holy Spirit at 9 o'clock in the morning. Then they shared the Holy Spirit with three-thousand other people who were baptized that day (Acts 2:41).
Mary received the Holy Spirit and conceived Jesus. "Thereupon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country," where she brought Jesus and the Holy Spirit to Elizabeth and her baby (Lk 1:39ff). The Holy Spirit is "given to those that obey" the Lord by sharing the Holy Spirit (see Acts 5:32). Thus, Pentecost by definition should not be in the singular. Pentecost results in another Pentecost, leading to Pentecosts after Pentecosts.
Are you docile to the Holy Spirit? You are willing to receive the Holy Spirit only if you are willing to do anything necessary to share the Spirit. Only if we are willing to go can we truly ask the Holy Spirit to come. Will you pray: "Come, Holy Spirit?"
Prayer: Father, give me zeal to light a fire on the earth (Lk 12:49).
Promise: "I give you My assurance, whatever you ask the Father, He will give you in My name." -Jn 16:23
Praise: St. Augustine watered the seed of faith in England after Queen Bertha of Kent planted it.

NINE DAYS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
"Whatever you ask the Father, He will give you in My name." -John 16:23
Today we begin the Pentecost novena, nine days of prayer in preparation for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday. On this first day of the novena, Jesus tells us to ask for the Spirit in His name (Jn 16:23). Jesus says: "The heavenly Father [will] give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him" (Lk 11:13).
We need these nine days to prepare us to ask rightly (see Jas 4:2-3). "We will receive at His hands whatever we ask" provided that "our consciences have nothing to charge us with" (1 Jn 3:22, 21). Thus, the Lord wants us to focus on repentance during this novena.
The disciples who prayed the first Pentecost novena "devoted themselves to constant prayer" (Acts 1:14). Prayer that is constant and communal works! They were filled with the Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Find some people to gather with to pray the novena.
Mary was central to the first Pentecost novena. Imagine how guilty the first disciples felt in abandoning Jesus during His crucifixion and thus adding to His pain. If you went to the funeral of someone you had hurt badly, imagine how comforted you'd feel to be loved and forgiven by the family of the deceased. Mary was Jesus' mother. Her presence with the disciples during the novena meant forgiveness and unity.
Repent and go to Confession. Pray with others. Pray with Mary. Receive the Holy Spirit!
Prayer: Father, I ask You in Jesus' name to prepare my heart to be a worthy dwelling place for the Holy Spirit.
Promise: "The Lord said to Paul: 'Do not be afraid. Go on speaking and do not be silenced, for I am with you.' " -Acts 18:9-10
Praise: Even at age six, St. Philip was noted for his obedience to his parents.

"Paul was pressed in the Spirit." -Acts 18:5, KJV
Tomorrow begins the Holy Spirit novena, nine days of intense prayer to prepare for receiving the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Like St. Paul, we are to be absorbed, that is, totally occupied with the coming of the Spirit, as if the Spirit was pressing upon us from all sides (Acts 18:5). Like the apostles and Mary in the upper room, we are to live and breathe for the purpose of receiving the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:14).
The nine days of a novena can be compared to the nine months of a pregnancy. A pregnant mother is completely preoccupied with the baby growing in her womb. She is in tune with the movements of her baby. As the months pass, the baby grows within her and presses more firmly upon her. Near the end of the pregnancy, all she can think of is "Come, Baby."
We need the Holy Spirit novena in order to become ever more attuned to the movements of the Holy Spirit. This is a time to come to Jesus and beg Him for the grace to thirst for the Spirit (see Jn 7:37-38). No matter how much we want the Holy Spirit, it's not as much as God desires us to want the Spirit. By the end of the nine days, we should constantly be thinking "Come, Holy Spirit." Desire to receive the Holy Spirit more than a mother with a full-term baby wants to give birth. "Come, Holy Spirit!"
Prayer: Father, pour out the Spirit in my life like a tidal wave. Carry me in the Spirit anywhere You wish.
Promise: "You will grieve for a time, but your grief will be turned into joy." -Jn 16:20
Praise: St. Mary Magdalene prayed to suffer even more before her death out of love for Christ crucified.

ARE YOU HARVESTINGWITH A BASKET OR A COMBINE?
"When they heard about the raising of the dead, some sneered, while others said, 'We must hear you on this topic some other time.' " -Acts 17:32
We Christians in the Western world in this new millennium can relate to Paul's ministry in Athens probably better than we can relate to other events in Acts of the Apostles. Paul met the people where they were and received a lukewarm response to his presentation of the gospel, although he did convert a few people (Acts 17:34). We too are used to lukewarmness and meager results, as we attempt to be relevant to the world.
In contrast, Paul in Thessalonica converted some Jews, "a great number of Greeks sympathetic to Judaism, and numerous prominent women" (Acts 17:4). In Beroea, "many of them came to believe" (Acts 17:12). Jesus told Paul that there were many of His people in Corinth (Acts 18:10). In two years, "all the inhabitants of the province of Asia, Jews and Greeks alike, heard the word of the Lord" (Acts 19:10).
Paul was used to reaping great harvests. Why was his harvest so poor in Athens? Some theories are that, in Athens, Paul did not get around to preaching Christ crucified (see 1 Cor 2:2), did not use the Bible in his preaching, and was doing his ministry alone rather than in community (see Acts 17:16; 2 Cor 2:12-13).
Possibly we can learn from Paul in Athens. In so doing, we can reap the great harvests of Acts of the Apostles and not only the poor ones.
Prayer: Father, may I bear fruit abundantly and more abundantly (see Jn 15:5, 2).
Promise: "I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. When He comes, however, being the Spirit of truth He will guide you to all truth." -Jn 16:12-13
Praise: At a healing service, Jesus healed Rhonda of multiple sclerosis.

THE BIG PICTURE
"When He comes, He will prove the world wrong." -John 16:8
God has created the universe. "He holds the whole wide world in His hands." God is big. He has big plans. He wants all to be saved (1 Tm 2:4). He commands us to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19). He calls us to live with Him in heaven forever.
Each human being is very small. Each of us is like a microscopic dot on a microscopic planet. Our lives last less than a second in comparison with eternity.
The Holy Spirit, God, comes to us to change our vision. Despite our fleeting littleness, we will no longer have peep-hole, tunnel vision, but catholic, universal, heavenly vision. We will set our hearts "on what pertains to higher realms where Christ is seated at God's right hand" (Col 3:1). We will "be intent on things above rather than on things of earth" (Col 3:2).
The Holy Spirit will open our eyes to see that sin means much more than just breaking the law. Sin is a refusal to believe in Jesus (Jn 16:9). The Holy Spirit shows us that justice is not only Jesus' death on Calvary but also His enthronement in heaven (see Jn 16:10). Finally, the Holy Spirit reveals to us an invisible world of "principalities and powers, the rulers of this world of darkness, the evil spirits in regions above" (Eph 6:12). The Spirit reveals that "the prince of this world has been condemned" (Jn 16:11).
In the Holy Spirit, open your eyes and see the big picture. See the universal Church, the whole world, several billion people, heaven, and hell. In the Holy Spirit, do not be imprisoned in the present but look into the mystery of timeless eternity.
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit of truth and light. May I see as You see (see Nm 24:4).
Promise: "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, and all your household." -Acts 16:31
Praise: The communion of saints has been a great blessing to Mark since becoming Catholic.

LYDIA - One Bread, One Body, 5/22/2017
Monday, May 22, 2017, St. Rita of Cascia
Acts 16:11-15, Psalm 149:1-6, 9, John 15:26-16:4

LYDIA
"The Lord opened [Lydia's] heart to accept what Paul was saying." -Acts 16:14
Lydia was a dealer in purple goods (Acts 16:14). In that day, purple cloth was an expensive item sought by the wealthy. Thus, Lydia was a woman of some means, as she owned a house, dealt with the wealthy, and knew how to operate in the circles of the elite.
Lydia was also extraordinarily persuasive. She must have been a great saleswoman, and she "managed to prevail upon" St. Paul. It was not easy to prevail upon St. Paul, as he stood firm against most entreaties. However, Lydia played the trump card, saying: "If you believe that my conversion is sincere, stay at my home" (see Acts 16:15). It would almost be an insult to Lydia's conversion for St. Paul to have refused her offer of hospitality.
Lydia was a worshiper of God, but now she embraced Jesus as her Lord. Her heart was open, and when she heard the gospel message, God opened it further as she cooperated with His grace (Acts 16:14).
It seems that the church at Philippi continued to use Lydia's home as a meeting place after St. Paul left town. Only the church at Philippi sent St. Paul monetary support (Phil 4:15). Could those donations to his ministry have come about through Lydia's encouragement and persuasion? (see Acts 16:40)
Be a Lydia. Open your heart and home to the Lord Jesus.
Prayer: Father, all I have is Yours. Use me and use me up.
Promise: "I have told you all this to keep your faith from being shaken." -Jn 16:1
Praise: St. Rita prayed, "Please let me suffer like You, Divine Savior."

PM eNewsletter Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 21, 2017 Sixth Sunday of Easter
Jesus, let us realize that this is now the time to do the Novena to the Holy Spirit
starting this Friday.
Oh! Christ, we need to be on fire with the Spirit, and we need to have the fruits of the
Spirit from Galatians 5-22, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,
gentleness and self control.
These fruits will help not only us, but all that we come in contact with.
Therefore, Christ, we need the fruits to guide ourselves and others to the joy of Your
Kingdom.
Thank you Jesus, for the Novena of Love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday ARSONIST
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=5/21/2017
Peter and John "upon arriving imposed hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit."
-Acts 8:17
Near the end of Jesus' public ministry, Samaritans would not allow Jesus and His disciples
to pass through their town because they were headed toward Jerusalem. St. John the Apostle
was indignant. He asked Jesus for permission to call down fire from heaven to destroy
those Samaritans (Lk 9:52-54). Jesus refused him, rebuking John on the spot (Lk 9:55).
Jesus did eventually allow John to call down fire from heaven onto the Samaritans. The
deacon Philip had taken the gospel in power to the unbelieving Samaritans, and they
received the Word of God (Acts 8:5ff). "When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria
had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two...prayed that they
might receive the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:14, 15). John laid his hands on those whom he had
earlier wished to incinerate, and the fire of God, the Holy Spirit, did fall upon them to
consume them with the love of God (Acts 8:17). Jesus gave John his wish, but not in the
way John had expected. John had to undergo a bigger conversion than the Samaritans did.
Are there any people you wouldn't mind having God remove from earth? Can you imagine Jesus
eventually using you as His agent to bring these people into new life in the Spirit? If we
are to love our enemies, we need that same gut-wrenching conversion John experienced.
Repent! Forgive and love your enemies (Lk 6:35). "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22).
Prayer: Jesus, send the fire of the Holy Spirit to burn away the hardness in my heart.
May I lead thousands to receive the Spirit.
Promise: "He who loves Me will be loved by My Father. I too will love him and reveal
Myself to him." -Jn 14:21

Lord I ask that you keep my best friend and roommate Aaron with me here in Pittsburgh. He is
looking to make a move and I feel as he is only doing this to please a family member as they
want him to make this change. I feel that he feels this is not the right move for him. His
moving would be heartbreaking and devastating.

Fear is useless. LORD please look kindly on the petitions posted and all the requests said

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
COMMUNICATING GOOD NEWS
"POSITIVE AND RESPONSIBLE"
I would like ... to contribute to the search for an open and creative style of communication
that never seeks to glamorize evil but instead to concentrate on solutions and to inspire a
positive and responsible approach on the part of its recipients. I ask everyone
BY THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT
By "the power of the Holy Spirit" we can be witnesses and "communicators" of a new and
redeemed humanity "even to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1: 7-8)
CONFIDENCE IN GOD
Confidence in the seed of God's Kingdom and in the mystery of Easter should also shape the
way we communicate. This confidence enables us to carry out our work ... with the conviction
that it is possible to recognize and highlight the good news present in every story and in
the face of each person.

PM Internet Prayer Requests
http://www.presentationministries.com/prayer/prayer.asp
I would like to pray for myself.. I'm a recent graduate with 1year working experience and
I'm actively looking for permanent employment. I pray that God grants me a job that will
sustain me,which in turn will allow me to help his people and the holy Catholic church.
May my cv/resumè reach the right hands. May the LOVE and mercy of God dwell upon me as I'm
facing depression and My faith in him is being tested. Lord graciously hear me Amen
(Koketso M., Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, 5/20/2017 7:15:11 PM)
Father in heaven in Jesus mighty name I ask for forgiveness for all my sins and for all my
mistakes. Please help me be better and become better. In Jesus mighty name I've prayed amen!
(Fernando, Elgin, IL, , 5/20/2017 6:55:31 PM)
Lord I ask that you keep my best friend and roommate Aaron with me here in Pittsburgh. He is
looking to make a move and I feel as he is only doing this to please a family member as they
want him to make this change. I feel that he feels this is not the right move for him. His
moving would be heartbreaking and devastating.
(Ian , Pittsburgh , Pa , United States, 5/20/2017 5:51:01 PM)
Fear is useless. LORD please look kindly on the petitions posted and all the requests said
silently in our hearts. Thank you LORD for choosing us and me to have faith in You. With out
this faith and trust there is no true reason to go on. JESUS may I never feel You have given
up on me. I am a sinner. I love You but I am weak and a sinner. Have mercy on me.
(Jim, Wisconsin, , 5/20/2017 2:16:53 PM)

ARSONIST
Peter and John "upon arriving imposed hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit." -Acts 8:17
Near the end of Jesus' public ministry, Samaritans would not allow Jesus and His disciples to pass through their town because they were headed toward Jerusalem. St. John the Apostle was indignant. He asked Jesus for permission to call down fire from heaven to destroy those Samaritans (Lk 9:52-54). Jesus refused him, rebuking John on the spot (Lk 9:55).
Jesus did eventually allow John to call down fire from heaven onto the Samaritans. The deacon Philip had taken the gospel in power to the unbelieving Samaritans, and they received the Word of God (Acts 8:5ff). "When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two...prayed that they might receive the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:14, 15). John laid his hands on those whom he had earlier wished to incinerate, and the fire of God, the Holy Spirit, did fall upon them to consume them with the love of God (Acts 8:17). Jesus gave John his wish, but not in the way John had expected. John had to undergo a bigger conversion than the Samaritans did.
Are there any people you wouldn't mind having God remove from earth? Can you imagine Jesus eventually using you as His agent to bring these people into new life in the Spirit? If we are to love our enemies, we need that same gut-wrenching conversion John experienced.
I too will love him and reveal Myself to him." -Jn 14:21
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, baptizing us in the Holy Spirit! (Mk 1:8)

THE CONTRARY SPIRIT - One Bread, One Body, 5/20/2017
Start praying for a new Pentecost.
http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/PrayPentecost.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday, May 20, 2017, St. Bernardine of Siena
Acts 16:1-10, Psalm 100:1-3, 5, John 15:18-21

THE CONTRARY SPIRIT
"They had been prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching the message in the province of Asia. When they came to Mysia they tried to go on into Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them." -Acts 16:6-7
Six days from today, the Church begins the Pentecost novena. In this way, we prepare our hearts and open them to the Holy Spirit. Although the Holy Spirit is our Joy, our Hope, and the Desire of our hearts, the Spirit, being God, has ways and thoughts that are very different from ours (Is 55:8-9). Therefore, we naturally are resistant to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit proves the world wrong about sin, justice, and condemnation (Jn 16:8). The Spirit insists that we constantly realize that Jesus has chosen us out of the world and that therefore we don't belong to the world (Jn 15:19). The Spirit would convict us as "enemies of the cross" if we are set on the things of the world (Phil 3:18-19).
Because the Spirit is all-knowing and we are not, the Spirit repeatedly must restrict us from going to certain places and doing certain things (Acts 16:7). This is frustrating for us because we feel the Spirit is treating us like children. Yet the fact is that in many ways we are and will always be like children due to our human weaknesses and limitations.
To receive the Holy Spirit, we must choose to be crucified to the world and the world to us (Gal 6:14). To receive the Holy Spirit in a deeper way, we must be humble and painfully realistic. Come, Holy Spirit!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I decide to humble myself before You.
Promise: "Through all this, the congregations grew stronger in faith and daily increased in numbers." -Acts 16:5
Praise: An orphan, St. Bernardine was raised in the Faith by his faithful aunt.

HOW TO BE DELIGHT-FUL - One Bread, One Body, 5/19/2017

HOW TO BE DELIGHT-FUL
"When it was read there was great delight at the encouragement it gave." -Acts 15:31
The leaders of the early Church sent a letter to the Gentile Christians of Antioch. The leaders told them that the Holy Spirit and the Church's leaders had decided that the Gentile Christians were "to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from illicit sexual union" (Acts 15:29). When the letter "was read there was great delight at the encouragement it gave" (Acts 15:31). Were the Gentile Christians greatly delighted and encouraged because the commands expressed in this letter were easy to accept? Probably not, for we know that some Gentile Christians had great difficulty with the first and last commands of this letter (see Rm 14:13ff; 1 Cor 8:1ff; 1 Thes 4:3ff). The Gentile Christians rejoiced and were encouraged not because they got their way or an easy way, but because they were docile to the Holy Spirit and expressed this by their submission to the authority of the Church's leaders. The Gentile Christians of Antioch rejoiced because they were unselfish (see Phil 4:4-5). They delighted in obeying the law of the Lord (Ps 40:9), as it was revealed by the Holy Spirit through the leaders of the Church.
True delight and encouragement are based not on getting our way but on finding out God's will. Like Jesus, we derive our food, fulfillment, and joy from doing God the Father's will (Jn 4:34).
We cannot always get what we want, but we can always do God's will. Therefore, delight and encouragement are always available to us. Seek God's will. Submit to authority. Be delighted and encouraged always.
Prayer: Father, may I be Your delight.
Promise: "The command I give you is this, that you love one another." -Jn 15:17
Praise: Since submitting to the Church's teaching completely, Martha's confusion and anger are gone.

HOW TO MAKE GREAT DECISIONS - One Bread, One Body, 5/18/2017
Thursday, May 18, 2017
Acts 15:7-21, Psalm 96:1-3, 10, John 15:9-11

HOW TO MAKE GREAT DECISIONS
"After much discussion, Peter took the floor." -Acts 15:7
In an extremely divisive and volatile situation, the leaders of the early Church rightly discerned the will of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 15:28). They were able to do this because they:
* were submissive to the authority of the leaders of the Church (see Acts 15:2),
* listened even to those who disagreed with them (see Acts 15:12),
* based their discernment on the Bible (Acts 15:15ff), and
* were living in Christian community (Acts 2:42).
Today we see many people who lack discernment, are very confused, and make terrible decisions regarding marriage, parenting, work, finances, and lifestyle. Those in our culture of death usually are independent. Some of them consider submission to authority a vice. We have the tendency to be contentious and to misunderstand the views of those who disagree with us. In general, we are Biblically illiterate. Moreover, community life has broken down into widespread isolation. We are programmed for failure in discernment and decision-making. To avoid being confused, abused, and deceived, we must repent and devote ourselves "to the apostles' instruction and the communal life, to the breaking of bread and the prayers" (Acts 2:42).
Prayer: Father, make my life a good context for hearing You.
Promise: "All this I tell you that My joy may be yours and your joy may be complete." -Jn 15:11
Praise: Pope St. John I was opposed by the heretical emperor and eventually martyred.

BEAR THE MOST ABUNDANT FRUIT
"He who lives in Me and I in him, will produce abundantly." -John 15:5
We must bear fruit:
* the fruit of holiness and evangelization,
* or be "like a withered, rejected branch, picked up to be thrown in the fire and burnt" (Jn 15:6; also 15:2),
* and be trimmed to increase our yield (Jn 15:2),
* by being attached to Jesus, the Vine (Jn 15:4-5),
* abundantly (Jn 15:5),
* and thereby glorify God the Father (Jn 15:8),
* and become Jesus' disciples (Jn 15:8),
* for Jesus chose us "to go forth and bear fruit" (Jn 15:16),
* which endures (Jn 15:16).
Because of His perfect love for us, Jesus wants all to be saved (1 Tm 2:4). We must bear fruit abundantly, or for many people Jesus' death and Resurrection will be in vain. Because God is Love (1 Jn 4:16), He must insist that we bear fruit as abundantly as possible. If we live in Jesus and He in us, we will automatically bear fruit. We must bear fruit.
Prayer: Father, prune me as much as is necessary for me to bear as much fruit as possible.
Promise: "The church saw them off and they made their way through Phoenicia and Samaria, telling everyone about the conversion of the Gentiles as they went. Their story caused great joy." -Acts 15:3
Praise: John and Sarah, who grew up with a home-based Community, are starting their own.
