BLESSED ARE THE HOSPITABLE
"Let some water be brought, that you may bathe your feet, and then rest yourselves under the tree. Now that you have come this close to your servant, let me bring you a little food." -Genesis 18:4-5
Abraham ran up to three strangers and begged them for the privilege of offering them hospitality. Unknowingly he offered hospitality to God and two angels. This prompted the writer of Hebrews to command us: "Do not neglect to show hospitality, for by that means some have entertained angels without knowing it" (Heb 13:2). Paul also commanded us to "be generous in offering hospitality" (Rm 12:13). When we offer hospitality by giving someone even a cup of cold water, we will not go unrewarded (see Mt 10:42). When we feed the hungry or give drink to the thirsty, we are giving service to God (Mt 25:40).
Showing hospitality is one of the main qualifications for being a Christian leader (1 Tm 3:2; Ti 1:8). Therefore, we should not only offer hospitality without complaining (1 Pt 4:9), but also beg people to accept our hospitality (e.g. Acts 16:15; Gn 18:4-5). Hospitality is a great privilege. Jesus Himself will offer His faithful ones hospitality at the end of the world. "It will go well with those servants whom the Master finds wide-awake on His return. I tell you, He will put on an apron, seat them at table, and proceed to wait on them" (Lk 12:37). Blessed are the hospitable: they shall serve God and be served by Him.
Prayer: Father, may I welcome everyone as if they were You and Your angels.
Promise: "He took her by the hand and the fever left her. She got up at once and began to wait on Him." -Mt 8:15
Praise: Although far from home, St. Junipero treated both Indians and Spaniards with hospitality.

SUPER PREMIUM
"Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?" -Genesis 17:17
Gas stations offer different octanes in their gas. We can get regular, premium, or super premium. This is also true in our life with the Lord. Abram was blessed with a son, Ishmael. Abram was willing to settle for this regular blessing, but the Lord wanted to give him the premium of the miraculous birth of Isaac from the ninety-year-old Sarah (Gn 17:17-18).
The leper in today's Gospel reading asked the Lord for premium, that is, a miraculous healing (Mt 8:2). However, the Lord told another healed leper that He wanted to give him more than a premium healing. He wanted to give Him the super premium of salvation (Lk 17:19).
Are you settling for blessings, when the Lord wants to give you miracles and salvation? Are you depriving yourself by receiving only miracles from God? Are you receiving good or better, but not best? Let God be God! Let Jesus be the Savior! To see and love Jesus in heaven forever we need more than blessings and miracles. We need salvation!
Prayer: Father, may I let You do more than I could ever ask for or imagine (Eph 3:20).
Promise: "Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him and said, 'I do will it. Be cured.' Immediately the man's leprosy disappeared." -Mt 8:3
Praise: Although the First Martyrs of Rome, young and old, soldiers, peasants, nobility, and merchants, died long ago, they are inspiring us still.

THE CHURCH FREES
"With that, the chains dropped from Peter's wrists." -Acts 12:7
Jesus is the only One Who sets us free (Jn 8:36). He frees us by His truth (Jn 8:32). Because the Church is the pillar and bulwark of truth (1 Tm 3:15) and has been given the keys of God's kingdom (Mt 16:19), she is used by Jesus to free us. For example, Peter, the leader of the early Church, was on death row and about to be beheaded, as James had been (Acts 12:1ff). "The church prayed fervently to God on his behalf" (Acts 12:5). Then Jesus freed Peter through the prayers of the Church.
Peter was guarded by four groups of four soldiers (Acts 12:4), "fastened with double chains" (Acts 12:6), and locked behind an "iron gate" (Acts 12:10). Peter needed to overcome nineteen obstacles to his freedom - sixteen guards, two chains, and one iron gate. We, like Peter, need a series of multiple miracles to be set free. However, the Church is praying for that. Because of the Church's prayers, angels are being sent to wake us up (Acts 12:7), clothe us with God's armor (Acts 12:8; see also Eph 6:14ff), and accompany us as we follow Jesus as His disciples (see Acts 12:8).
Answer the Church's prayer. Through the intercession of Sts. Peter and Paul, be free and lead the world to new freedom.
Prayer: Father, set the captives free.
Promise: "The Lord will continue to rescue me from all attempts to do me harm and will bring me safe to His heavenly kingdom." -2 Tm 4:18
Praise: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Tm 4:7).
(Once you study the Catechism of the Catholic Church's part 1, "Overview of the Creed", your appreciation of the faith will deepen and grow. Join us July 10-14 as we delve into this gold mine of teachings. To register, call 513-373-2397 or 937-587-5464 or see www.presentationministries.com.)

FEAR, GOD'S PROMISES, ANDOUR BAPTISMAL COVENANT
"This word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: 'Fear not, Abram!' " -Genesis 15:1
When the Lord promises something very great, He often announces His promise by commanding us not to fear (see Lk 1:13, 30; Mt 1:20). The implication is that when we give in to fear, we may sabotage God's work in our lives.
A covenant is one of the antidotes to fear, and it is also an assurance of the fulfillment of God's promises. After God commanded Abram not to fear and promised him a very great reward (Gn 15:1), "the Lord made a covenant with Abram" (Gn 15:18). Likewise, the Lord has made with us the ultimate covenant in His blood (Mt 26:28) when He died on the cross for us. We have entered this covenant by being baptized into His death (Rm 6:3). By living our baptismal covenant, we overcome fear and are assured of the fulfillment of God's promises.
Renew your baptismal promises; do not fear. Bless yourself with holy water. What God has promised you in Baptism will be fulfilled. Celebrate the anniversary of your Baptism; do not fear. Live practically your Baptism by being in a small Christian community. "So now acknowledge with your whole heart and soul that not one of all the promises the Lord, your God, made to you has remained unfulfilled. Every promise has been fulfilled for you, with not one single exception" (Jos 23:14). Do not fear. "Whatever promises God has made have been fulfilled in [Jesus]" (2 Cor 1:20). You are baptized into Him. Alleluia!
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to teach me to think of my Baptism daily and to praise You.
Promise: "You can tell a tree by its fruit." -Mt 7:20
Praise: St. Irenaeus worked to unite the Eastern and the Western halves of the Church.

THE GATE, WAY, TRUTH, AND LIFE - One Bread, One Body, 6/27/2017

THE GATE, WAY, TRUTH, AND LIFE
"Enter through the narrow gate. The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many choose to travel it." -Matthew 7:13
There are two gates in life: the narrow gate and the wide gate. Many choose to enter through the wide gate because it is easy to do so. You would think we would choose a gate based on what's behind it rather than on how easy it is to get through it. For example, does a person go on a road just because the road is wide, or because it leads to his destination? If we choose the wide gate, we are ignorant both of where the road behind this gate leads and where the road behind the narrow gate leads.
Jesus is the Gate (Jn 10:7, 9). He is "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Jesus is the Truth about Life. He alone can reveal to us where the roads behind the gates of life go (see Rv 5:5). Whoever enters through Jesus will be safe and saved (Jn 10:9). Those who try to make their own way of life will destroy themselves (see Mt 7:13). It takes the Gate to know the gates.
Therefore, thankfully and totally give your life to Jesus, the Gate, Who is our only Savior (Acts 4:12) and our only Hope.
Prayer: Father, may I have enough faith and love to tell people about Jesus, the Truth.
Promise: "Set forth and walk about in the land, through its length and breadth, for to you I will give it." -Gn 13:17
Praise: St. Cyril taught against heresy no matter how intense the persecution. He rejoiced in suffering for Christ when he was falsely accused and imprisoned (see 1 Pt 4:13-16).
(To enter through the narrow gate, read the Bible daily. For encouragement, order, listen to or download any or all of the following CDs or DVDs on our website: "Ignorance of Scriptures is Ignorance of Christ", CD 82-1, DVD 82, "How to Pray the Bible", CD 82-3, DVD 82, "How to Read the Bible", CD 46-3, DVD 46, "Principles of Bible Interpretation", CD 79-1, DVD 79.)

NOT YET
"To your descendants I will give this land...Then Abram journeyed on." -Genesis 12:7, 9
As Abram passed through the land of Canaan, God promised him that his descendants would inherit that land. However, the Canaanites were still living in the land at the time (Gn 12:6). Abram then continued his journey south many miles more to the desert of the Negeb. Abram got the promise but no land yet.
Joshua led the Israelites into the promised land, but they didn't possess it right away. God told them they wouldn't occupy the land in one year; they were not numerous enough. God displaced the peoples who resided there by sending hornets to drive them out, little by little. Otherwise, the Lord said, the added responsibilities would prove too much for them (see Ex 23:28-30; Dt 7:22). So God allowed the Canaanites to stay awhile, to maintain and upgrade the land and dwellings until the time the Israelites could take over.
Abram and Joshua both experienced delays. As Joshua discovered, sometimes a delay is a result of God's kindness. As Abram learned, sometimes a delay is for the benefit of others, not us, and we are to patiently bear it so others we may never even meet can be blessed through us (Gn 12:2-3).
Is there a delay in your life that you can't understand? Allow God to use it to work all things to the good (Rm 8:28).
Prayer: Father, when You tell me "not yet," may I always trust that You have "already" given me all that I need.
Promise: "The measure with which you measure will be used to measure you." -Mt 7:2

Let us all relax in Your love, and let us be excited that You are among us all the days

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday KNOW JESUS - NO FEAR
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/25/2017
"Do not fear." -Matthew 10:28
Jesus gives us at least four commandments in today's Gospel reading:
1. "Do not let them intimidate you" (Mt 10:26).
2. "Do not fear those who deprive the body of life but cannot destroy the soul" (Mt 10:28).
3. "Do not be afraid of anything" (Mt 10:31).
4. "Fear Him Who can destroy both body and soul in Gehenna" (Mt 10:28).
We are fearless of men because we have the fear of the Lord (Sir 34:14). The fear of the Lord
is not only the beginning of wisdom (Ps 111:10) but also of faith, which leads to love. When
love is complete, it casts out all fear (1 Jn 4:18). Thus, the grace of fearlessness comes
from fear of the Lord, faith, and love.
The Lord has not only commanded us to be fearless of men but has shown us how He will give us
the grace of fearlessness. We must cooperate by:
*renewing our Confirmations in which we received the fear of the Lord (see Is 11:2-3),
*growing in faith through hearing God in His Word (Rm 10:17), and
*growing in love through purifying ourselves "by obedience to the truth" (1 Pt 1:22).
Be fearless in Christ.
Prayer: Father, make me miraculously courageous.
Promise: "If by the offense of the one man all died, much more did the grace of God and the
gracious gift of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound for all." -Rm 5:15
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Son of God, love incarnate, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2017-05.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
COMMUNICATING GOOD NEWS
INSTANT NEWS
Access to the media ... makes it possible for countless people to share news instantly
and spread it widely. That news may be good or bad, true or false.
POSITIVE COMMUNICATION
I would like to encourage everyone to engage in constructive forms of communication that
reject prejudice towards others and foster a culture of encounter, helping all of us to
view the world around us with realism and trust.
"VICIOUS CIRCLE"
I am convinced that we have to break the vicious circle of anxiety and stem the spiral
of fear resulting from a constant focus on "bad news" (wars, terrorism, scandals and all
sorts of human failure).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

KNOW JESUS - NO FEAR
"Do not fear." -Matthew 10:28
Jesus gives us at least four commandments in today's Gospel reading:
* "Do not let them intimidate you" (Mt 10:26).
* "Do not fear those who deprive the body of life but cannot destroy the soul" (Mt 10:28).
* "Do not be afraid of anything" (Mt 10:31).
* "Fear Him Who can destroy both body and soul in Gehenna" (Mt 10:28).
We are fearless of men because we have the fear of the Lord (Sir 34:14). The fear of the Lord is not only the beginning of wisdom (Ps 111:10) but also of faith, which leads to love. When love is complete, it casts out all fear (1 Jn 4:18). Thus, the grace of fearlessness comes from fear of the Lord, faith, and love.
The Lord has not only commanded us to be fearless of men but has shown us how He will give us the grace of fearlessness. We must cooperate by:
* renewing our Confirmations in which we received the fear of the Lord (see Is 11:2-3),
* growing in faith through hearing God in His Word (Rm 10:17), and
* growing in love through purifying ourselves "by obedience to the truth" (1 Pt 1:22).
Be fearless in Christ.
Prayer: Father, make me miraculously courageous.
Promise: "If by the offense of the one man all died, much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound for all." -Rm 5:15
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Son of God, love incarnate, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25).
(Heaven is your destiny! Are you headed in that direction? Receive insight and wisdom; attend the retreat "Seek the Kingdom of God", July 3-6. To register, call 513-373-2397 or 937-587-5464.)

HALFWAY TO JESUS' BIRTHDAY - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2017
Saturday, June 24, 2017, Nativity of St. John the Baptizer
Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80

HALFWAY TO JESUS' BIRTHDAY
"Look for the One Who comes after me. I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals on His feet." -Acts 13:25
We celebrate the birthday of St. John the Baptizer for the same reason we celebrate the birthday of Mary. The significance of John the Baptizer, Mary, and each of us is due to our relationship with Jesus. We celebrate John's birthday because it is halfway to the celebration of Jesus' birthday. We celebrate our birthdays because we have been given new birth in Jesus.
We celebrate John because he was chosen to prepare the way for Jesus (see Acts 13:24). We celebrate Mary because she is the mother of Jesus. We celebrate our lives because we have given them to Jesus. Jesus is "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Jesus is "the Beginning and the End" (Rv 21:6), "the First and the Last" (Rv 1:17). Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior, and the Lord. He is God and the only Hope for the world. We live to live in Him (see Jn 6:56).
Therefore, let us obey John's command to behold the Lamb of God (Jn 1:29, 36). "Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus," the Beginning and the End of our faith (Heb 12:2). Let us "live no longer for" ourselves "but for Him" (2 Cor 5:15).
Prayer: "Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All!"
Promise: "Though I thought I had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength, yet my reward is with the Lord." -Is 49:4
Praise: St. John's birth foretold the coming of the Messiah and our own re-birth. "What will this child be?" (Lk 1:66)
(For a related teaching on "Accepting Jesus as Lord, Savior and God", order, view or download our leaflet or order, listen to or download our CD 43-1 or DVD 43 on our website or order our tape on audio AV 43-1 or video V-43.)

THE HEALER OF THE BROKEN-HEARTED (see Ps 34:19) - One Bread, One Body, 6/23/2017
Friday, June 23, 2017, Sacred Heart of Jesus
Deuteronomy 7:6-11, 1 John 4:7-16, Psalm 103:1-4, 8, 10, Matthew 11:25-30

THE HEALER OF THE BROKEN-HEARTED (see Ps 34:19)
"We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us." -1 John 4:16
On the day before the feast of the Sacred Heart, I visited a man in a hospital who was close to death. The doctors had called the family to the bedside of the dying man. At that point, the man rallied slightly and did not die. When I was talking to his wife, she said: "Father, I hope he dies tomorrow on the feast of the Sacred Heart. That would be an assurance." Her husband died the next day - on the feast of the Sacred Heart.
There is something extraordinary about the prophetic image of the Sacred Heart. When the weary and burdened come to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, they find rest (Mt 11:28). When the dying and the bereaved come to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, they find assurance. When the broken and rejected see the Sacred Heart of Jesus, they have hope.
Therefore, on this solemn feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, consecrate every aspect of your life to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Receive the love of God more than ever before. Pray: "Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours" (see Mt 11:29). Pray: "Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You."
Prayer: Father, I obey Pope St. John Paul II's directive for this feast day, and I pray for all priests to be holy as You are holy (1 Pt 1:16).
Promise: "It was because the Lord loved you and because of His fidelity to the oath He had sworn to your fathers, that He brought you out with His strong hand from the place of slavery." -Dt 7:8
Praise: Praise You, Sacred Heart of Jesus, for such unfathomable love. How deep are your riches and wisdom and knowledge! (Rm 11:33)
(For a related teaching on "The Sacred Heart", order, listen to or download our CD 19-1 or DVD 19 on our website or order our tape on audio AV 19-1 or video V-19.)

A FALLEN AWAY JUMP SHOT - One Bread, One Body, 6/22/2017
Thursday, June 22, 2017, St. Paulinus of Nola, Sts. John Fisher & Thomas More

A FALLEN AWAY JUMP SHOT
"My fear is that, just as the serpent seduced Eve by his cunning, your thoughts may be corrupted and you may fall away from your sincere and complete devotion to Christ." -2 Corinthians 11:3
Most American Catholics who have registered in a parish are "fallen away" from fulfilling the obligation of attending Mass on every Sunday and Holy Day. Furthermore, how many are fallen away from meeting the standard that Paul enunciated? Paul was fearful that the "chaste virgin" church of Corinth would "fall away" from their "sincere and complete devotion to Christ" (2 Cor 11:2, 3). Moreover, if we love Christ less than we previously did, we are fallen away from our earlier love. If we love Him less than when we first loved Him, we have lost our first love (Rv 2:4). We are lukewarm and are nauseating to the Lord (Rv 3:16).
If we are "fallen away" in any way, we are in danger. A relationship where love is lessening is in trouble. If we love the Lord less, we are not loving Him with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength (Mt 22:37). Thus, we are not obeying the first of all the commandments and the basis for the Law and the prophets (Mt 22:40).
Let us repent, renew our baptismal covenant, go to Confession, and return immediately to our "sincere and complete devotion to Christ" (2 Cor 11:3).
Prayer: Father, You are Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16). May I never love You less and continue to love You more forever.
Promise: "This is how you are to pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.' " -Mt 6:9
Praise: St. Paulinus changed his life when his wife and only child died, and he pursued ordination at age thirty-nine.

PLAY-ACTING
"Do not behave like the hypocrites." -Matthew 6:5
The root of the word "hypocrite" means "play-acting." Jesus teaches that discipleship can never involve play-acting; being a disciple of Christ means to live righteously from the heart. Disciples live to please the Lord God (see 1 Thes 2:4), not to obtain a reward for ourselves.
The word "reward," in this parable, means a limited repayment, which only satisfies the "actor." The word "repayment," as applied to God repaying an act of trusting, humble discipleship, is a free, unlimited reward from God. The disciple leaves the reward, if any, in the hands of God.
God may choose to repay now, repay at a much higher rate, or not at all. God may repay a small or huge amount; true disciples leave that all up to Him. Unlike the hypocrite's repayment, the disciple's reward does not limit God's generosity, but trusts in His providence. The fruit and the reward could be huge, if God desires.
Play-acting limits the reward, limits the fruit, and directs attention to the hypocrite, not to God. Discipleship places no limits on fruit or repayment. All glory goes directly to God.
Resist the temptation to play at being a disciple of Jesus. Take up your cross each day and follow in His footsteps. Give the Lord your all in love.
Prayer: Father, may I never limit You in any way. Give me a heart that lives for You alone.
Promise: "He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully." -2 Cor 9:6
Praise: St. Aloysius, born into royalty, did not play courtly games, but even as a teen remained true to himself and his Lord.

GIVINGS OR MIS-GIVINGS?
"In the midst of severe trial their overflowing joy and deep poverty have produced an abundant generosity." -2 Corinthians 8:2
God gives. The Father and the Son constantly and eternally give Themselves to each Other, and Their Gift is the Holy Spirit. God constantly gives us His life with all its love and power. This is called grace. God gave His very self when He gave His Son to die on the cross for us. Jesus, God Himself, even continues to give His Body and Blood in Holy Communion. The Father through the Son gives us the Holy Spirit, Who gives us special graces called charisms. God gives constantly, eternally, and perfectly to all, even and especially to His enemies (see Mt 5:44-45).
We are called to give as God gives. By God's grace, we must first give ourselves "to God and then to" all (2 Cor 8:5). "Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:7). In imitation of God, we are graced to be big givers by giving our whole lives to God in accepting and living fully our vocations to the lay single life, the priesthood, religious life, or married life. We are called to give up so much in sacrifice so that we can have much more time, energy, and money to give in generosity.
Give in a Trinitarian, crucified, eucharistic, enthusiastic, and divine way.
Prayer: Father, I will give without counting the cost.
Promise: "You have heard the commandment, 'You shall love your countryman but hate your enemy.' My command to you is: love your enemies, pray for your persecutors." -Mt 5:43-44
Praise: David gave up coming late to Mass and leaving early, so he could spend more quality time with his Lord.

GOT LIFE?
We are "sorrowful, though we are always rejoicing; poor, yet we enrich many. We seem to have nothing, yet everything is ours!" -2 Corinthians 6:10
When we were baptized, all heaven broke loose. We were begotten from above, born again (Jn 3:3, 5), and adopted as children of God. Our bodies were made temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). We became "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation" (1 Pt 2:9). The Holy Trinity came to live in us, and we in Him.
In our new, royal life in God's family, we are threats to the devil. He retaliates by throwing at us "trials, difficulties, distresses, beatings, imprisonments, and riots" (2 Cor 6:4-5). That's only the beginning. There's also "hard work, sleepless nights, and fastings" (2 Cor 6:5). Then there's persecution and, for a select few, the privilege of martyrdom.
Life in Christ is wild. It is unspeakably joyful (see 1 Pt 1:8) and excruciatingly painful - all at the same time. "It is a fearful" and wonderful "thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb 10:31), Who "is a consuming Fire" (Heb 12:29). Life without Christ is a wasted life (see 1 Pt 4:3). Life in Christ is the abundant life (Jn 10:10).
Do you "have the guts" to live your baptismal promises and thereby enter into the marvelous mystery of life and love in Christ? If so, repent and renew your baptismal promises. Life will never be the same.
Prayer: Father, give me the courage to live the joy of the Christian life.
Promise: "But what I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury. When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other." -Mt 5:39
Praise: St. Romuald was delivered from both interior and external struggles by the grace of God.

PM eNewsletter Body and Blood of Christ
June 18th, 2017 Body and Blood of Christ
Lord Christ, You left us with gifts to help us, nourish us and lead us into eternal life.
You gave us the church, guided by the Spirit, and You gave us the food of life to sustain
us and free us from the ways of the world.
You gave us the Sacraments to keep us able to live this life in love.
You gave us Your Body and Blood to eat and drink to protect us from the snares of the
demons.
Your love is so complete that You didn't only give us a new covenant, but You also left
us "You" in a form of unbelievable love.
The fact that we can truly eat Your Body and drink Your Blood is a gift beyond compare.
The fact that we can come and sit, or kneel in Your presence, and feel Your love and peace
is a great gift that we need more and more to take advantage of.
Christ Jesus, never let us receive You unworthily and never let us lose the mystic of love
surrounding Your gift of Your true Body and Blood.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday MASS CONFUSION
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/18/2017
"The man who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him." -John 6:56
This book, One Bread, One Body, is written to motivate you to go to Mass daily or as often
as possible. Our prayer is that you would live the Mass and make our eucharistic Lord the
center of your life.
Jesus proclaimed: "The bread I will give is My flesh, for the life of the world" (Jn 6:51).
This is a hard saying, and "the Jews quarreled among themselves" about it (Jn 6:52).
"Thereupon Jesus said to them: 'Let Me solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the flesh of
the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. He who feeds on My flesh and
drinks My blood has life eternal and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is
real food and My blood real drink' " (Jn 6:53-55). The Lord has made it very clear that
"in the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist 'the body and blood, together with the soul
and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really,
and substantially contained' " (Catechism, 1374).
If we don't believe the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Jesus, Who is God, then we
shouldn't trust the Church, which has always taught this. If we don't trust the Church, we
have little reason to believe the Bible, for the Bible was compiled, established, and
interpreted by the Church. If we don't believe in the Eucharist, the Church, and her Bible,
then we have no objective basis for believing in Christianity. We then exist in a
subjective, new-age confusion or in the empty hopelessness of agnosticism. Instead, we must
believe that the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of God.
Prayer: Father, make me so in love with Your eucharistic Son that I will be willing to risk
my life to receive Holy Communion.
Promise: "We, many though we are, are one body, for we all partake of the one bread."
-1 Cor 10:17, our transl.
Praise: All praise to you, risen, eucharistic Jesus!

realize how God is present and at work in every moment of our lives and history,
patiently bringing to pass a history of salvation. Hope is the thread with which this
sacred history is woven, and its weaver is none other than the Holy Spirit.
NURTURE HOPE
Hope is the humblest of virtues, for it remains hidden in the recesses of life, yet it
is like the yeast that leavens all the dough. We nurture it by reading ever anew the
Gospel, "reprinted" in so many editions in the lives of the saints who became icons of
God's love in this world.
BEACONS IN THE DARKNESS
... The Spirit continues to sow in us a desire for the Kingdom, thanks to all those who,
drawing inspiration from the Good News amid the dramatic events of our time, shine like
beacons in the darkness of this world , shedding light along the way and opening ever
new paths of confidence and hope.

LOVED INTO LIFE - One Bread, One Body, 6/17/2017

LOVED INTO LIFE
"He died for all so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for Him Who for their sakes died and was raised up." -2 Corinthians 5:15
Jesus died for us - not only for our benefit, but in our place. Once we accept the grace to believe this, the love of Christ impels us to live no longer for ourselves but for Him Who died for us and was raised up (2 Cor 5:14-15).
After grace and love have totally re-oriented our lives from being self-centered to being Christ-centered, everything is new (2 Cor 5:17). We no longer see Christ as our Servant but as our Lord (see 2 Cor 5:16). People are seen not only as people but as present or potential sons or daughters of God and our brothers or sisters in Christ (see 2 Cor 5:16). Also, our self-image is no longer blurred by self-deceptive, prideful selfishness. We realize we are new creations (2 Cor 5:17) who are reconciled to the Father through Christ and made ministers of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18).
We are literally like Barabbas in that we went free because Jesus was nailed to our cross and executed in our place (see Mt 27:17). When we realize this, we know that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (Rm 8:35) and that He will love us in ways greater than we can ever ask for or imagine (see Eph 3:20). Believe Jesus died in your place, and live a new life of love.
Prayer: Father, convince me that Jesus died in my place. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for me to know your Son's crucified love.
Promise: "For our sakes God made Him Who did not know sin, to be sin, so that in Him we might become the very holiness of God." -2 Cor 5:21
Praise: Even before being widowed, Louise put her Lord first in her life. When her husband died, Jesus carried her through the transition with peace beyond all understanding (Phil 4:7).

I'M JUST DYING TO SERVE JESUS - One Bread, One Body, 6/16/2017

I'M JUST DYING TO SERVE JESUS
"Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed." -2 Corinthians 4:10
Each day, we human beings are one day closer to death. "Death is at work in us" (2 Cor 4:12). Some would wryly agree with the observation that our churches are full of dead people. Jesus Himself told the church of Sardis: "You are dead!" (Rv 3:1)
In one sense, our churches should be filled with dead people. We Christians are called to die to ourselves (Lk 9:23; Jn 12:24), to daily put to death our sinful nature, to renounce ourselves, our desires, and our possessions to become Jesus' disciples (Lk 14:33). We empty ourselves (Phil 2:7) and count all as loss (Phil 3:8). We are, at this point, a dead body. In this state of emptiness, we receive Jesus, Who is Life (Jn 14:6), and His life is revealed in us (2 Cor 4:10) in such a way that it is obvious to all that anything we do is God's doing and not our own (2 Cor 4:7).
This is the essence of the Paschal mystery. Jesus, shortly before He died, broke bread and said, "This is My body to be given for you" (Lk 22:19). We in turn receive Him in the Eucharist and tell Him, "Jesus, this is my body, to be given for You." We offer our bodies to Him as living sacrifices (Rm 12:1). We have so completely died to ourselves that nothing in us can block the flow of His life through us.
Die to yourself daily; take up your cross; receive the eucharistic Jesus; and "make known the glory of God shining on the face of Christ" (2 Cor 4:6).
Prayer: Father, "to me, 'life' means Christ; hence dying is so much gain" (Phil 1:21). I offer You every moment of my life. Bring many to Yourself through my sacrifices.
Promise: "Everything is ordered to your benefit." -2 Cor 4:15
Praise: Martha counts her life as beginning with her Baptism.

I'M JUST DYING TO SERVE JESUS
"Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed." -2 Corinthians 4:10

ONE GOOD TURN
"Whenever he turns to the Lord, the veil will be removed." -2 Corinthians 3:16
Because of our sinful nature, a veil obstructs our understanding of the Bible. Only by turning to Jesus and the Holy Spirit is this veil removed (2 Cor 3:14-17). If we turn to the Lord, we will gaze on His glory with unveiled faces and be "transformed from glory to glory into His very image by the Lord Who is the Spirit" (2 Cor 3:18).
If we don't turn to the Lord, we will falsely accuse others of "veiling" the Gospel, although the veil is actually due to our lack of understanding (see 2 Cor 4:3). Eventually, our minds will not only be veiled but "blinded by the god of the present age" (2 Cor 4:4). We will be "headed toward destruction" (2 Cor 4:3).
We are eventually either unveiled or blinded. We are either transformed from glory to glory or deformed by our sins to destruction and damnation. We must turn to the Lord by turning our lives over to Him. This is the only true meaning of life. This is our only hope for the future. The Lord commands: "Turn to Me and be safe, all you ends of the earth, for I am God; there is no other!" (Is 45:22)
Prayer: Father, thank You for freeing me of blindness. By Your power, may I give "sight to the blind" (see Lk 4:18).
Promise: "If you bring your gift to the altar and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift at the altar, go first to be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift." -Mt 5:23-24
Praise: Brenda prays a rosary each day after Mass for the conversion of her husband and children.
