SPENDING EVERYTHING FOR NOTHING?
"He went back and put up for sale all that he had and bought it." -Matthew 13:46
All of us are spending our lives on something. Like little children who spend all their money on candy, a number of us spend our lives on pleasures. We work to make money to buy pleasures. We live to be entertained and to feel good. After years of doing this, we have nothing but very faded memories of feeling good and a few unsatisfying possessions, accompanied by a few compulsions. We have little to show for our lives of selfishness. Then, after being stuffed with emptiness, we have to face old age and death. We then look back on our lives and feel we are fools and worthy of being "damned fools."
How different it is for those who have "sold out" for Jesus by giving their lives totally to Him! (see Mt 13:44ff) These people have chosen to follow Jesus, deny themselves, and take up their crosses each day (Lk 9:23). They seem to have lost their lives but have actually saved them (Lk 9:24). They have not worked "for perishable food but for food that remains unto life eternal" (Jn 6:27). They are at peace with their past, rejoicing in the present, and hopeful about the future. They are free and unafraid of death (Heb 2:15). Their treasures are not lost but are secure in heaven (Mt 6:20). They love life, for Jesus is Life (Jn 14:6). They are the wise men and women who have joyfully sold everything to obtain God's kingdom. Wise up!
Prayer: Father, deliver me from the futile life handed on to me (1 Pt 1:18).
Promise: "You have been my Stronghold, my Refuge in the day of distress." -Ps 59:17
Praise: St. Alphonsus worked for imperishable souls, preaching popular missions for twenty-six years.

"JESUS WEPT" (SEE LK 19:41)
"Let my eyes stream with tears day and night." -Jeremiah 14:17
Some people are not concerned about the condition of the world, the state of the Church, the destruction of human lives, the breakdown of marriage and family, etc. They simply watch TV and try to escape from reality. In contrast, we who follow the Lord should love God and other people enough to pray: "Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest, over the great destruction which overwhelms the virgin daughter of my people, over her incurable wound" (Jer 14:17).
When Jesus saw people weakened and lost, His heart was moved with pity (Mt 9:36). Jesus cared enough to die on the cross to change this world. As His followers, we should care, too. Because Jesus is Lord and is Love (see 1 Jn 4:16), we should not be discouraged. However, we should care enough to cry and live lives of love. If done in love, every act of our lives is precious and powerful. We must not "spend what remains" of our earthly lives "on human desires but on the will of God" (1 Pt 4:2).
Prayer: Father, "love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8). I accept Your grace to live a life of love for and in You. May I live, weep, rejoice, die, and rise in love.
Promise: "Is it not You alone, O Lord, our God, to Whom we look? You alone have done all these things." -Jer 14:22
Praise: St. Ignatius' life changed when he read the lives of the saints who came before him. He gave his life permanently to Jesus from that point forward.

THE BOOK - One Bread, One Body, 7/30/2018
Monday, July 30, 2018, St. Peter Chrysologus
Jeremiah 13:1-11, Deuteronomy 32:18-21, Matthew 13:31-35

THE BOOK
"I will announce what has lain hidden since the creation of the world." -Matthew 13:35
In Jesus' parables, we learn things that were hidden for many thousands of years before Christ (Mt 13:35). In the Scriptures, the Lord tells us "things great beyond reach of [our] knowledge" (Jer 33:3). The Holy Spirit works through the Scriptures to reveal "even the deep things of God" (1 Cor 2:10). " 'Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned on man what God has prepared for those who love Him.' Yet God has revealed this wisdom to us through the Spirit" (1 Cor 2:9-10). In the Scriptures, we receive "a mysterious, a hidden wisdom" (1 Cor 2:7).
Because of the uniquely powerful light we receive from the Scriptures, we should:
* accept the privilege of reading the Scriptures daily,
* take the responsibility of sharing the Scriptures daily,
* use the Bible daily as our prayer book,
* devote ourselves to the Word of God more than to TV, other forms of media, and other areas of education, and
* abide in God's Word (Jn 8:31).
Prayer: Father, may I always live in the light of Your Word (Ps 119:105).
Promise: "I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to Me, says the Lord; to be My people, My renown, My praise, My beauty." -Jer 13:11
Praise: St. Peter Chrysologus spoke so convincingly about Jesus that many listened and believed.

Sunday FEELINGS OF INADEQUACY?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/29/2018
"What good is that for so many?" -John 6:9
The world, the flesh, and the devil - the three traditional enemies of Christians - try to
brainwash us into trivializing our lives. Our enemies want us to believe that it doesn't matter
how we spend our time, energies, thoughts, money, or lives.
One technique often used to make us think our lives are meaningless is to show us our inadequacy.
Satan shows us the immensity of our culture of death - mass abortions, gross injustices, millions
starving, and centuries of violent oppression and unforgiveness. Under these conditions, we feel
inadequate as if our lives are only "drops in the bucket" (see Is 40:15). We are tempted to think
that giving our lives or wasting our lives has about the same effect.
However, Jesus, the Truth (Jn 14:6), denies the lies regarding our inadequacy. He promises to
multiply lives totally given to Him (see Jn 6:8ff). Then our lives will feed and free the masses.
Jesus makes our lives more than adequate. "Through Him, with Him, and in Him," our lives become
life-changing, earth-shaking, and eternally important.
Therefore, give your life totally to the Lord and His people (see 2 Kgs 4:42, 43). The only
multipliable life is the one totally given to Him. Give totally and live powerfully.
Prayer: Father, prevent me from wasting my life by withholding part of it from You (see Lk 9:24).
Promise: "Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin and peace as
its binding force." -Eph 4:3
Praise: Praise Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), whose name is exalted above the
heavens! Alleluia!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-07.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
LIVING THE BEATITUDES
"PEER INTO THE DEPTHS"
The Gospel invites us to peer into the depths of our heart, to see where we find our security
in life. (67)
"NO ROOM"
Wealth insures nothing. Indeed, once we think we are rich, we can become so self-satisfied that
we leave no room for God's word, for the love of our brothers and sisters, or for the enjoyment
of the most important things in life... We miss out on the greatest treasure of all. That is why
Jesus calls blessed those who are poor in spirit, those who have a poor heart, for there the
Lord can enter with His perennial newness. (68)
"USELESS COMPLAINING"
If we are constantly upset and impatient with others, we will end up drained and weary. But if
we regard the faults and limitations of others with tenderness and meekness, without an air of
superiority, we can actually help them and stop wasting our time on useless complaining. (72)

FEELINGS OF INADEQUACY? - One Bread, One Body, 7/29/2018
Sunday, July 29, 2018, 17th Sunday Ordinary Time
2 Kings 4:42-44, Ephesians 4:1-6, Psalm 145:10-11, 15-18, John 6:1-15

FEELINGS OF INADEQUACY?
"What good is that for so many?" -John 6:9
The world, the flesh, and the devil - the three traditional enemies of Christians - try to brainwash us into trivializing our lives. Our enemies want us to believe that it doesn't matter how we spend our time, energies, thoughts, money, or lives.
One technique often used to make us think our lives are meaningless is to show us our inadequacy. Satan shows us the immensity of our culture of death - mass abortions, gross injustices, millions starving, and centuries of violent oppression and unforgiveness. Under these conditions, we feel inadequate as if our lives are only "drops in the bucket" (see Is 40:15). We are tempted to think that giving our lives or wasting our lives has about the same effect.
However, Jesus, the Truth (Jn 14:6), denies the lies regarding our inadequacy. He promises to multiply lives totally given to Him (see Jn 6:8ff). Then our lives will feed and free the masses. Jesus makes our lives more than adequate. "Through Him, with Him, and in Him," our lives become life-changing, earth-shaking, and eternally important.
Therefore, give your life totally to the Lord and His people (see 2 Kgs 4:42, 43). The only multipliable life is the one totally given to Him. Give totally and live powerfully.
Prayer: Father, prevent me from wasting my life by withholding part of it from You (see Lk 9:24).
Promise: "Make every effort to preserve the unity which has the Spirit as its origin and peace as its binding force." -Eph 4:3
Praise: Praise Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), whose name is exalted above the heavens! Alleluia!

WHEAT YOUR GARDEN - One Bread, One Body, 7/28/2018

WHEAT YOUR GARDEN
"When the crop began to mature and yield grain, the weeds made their appearance as well." -Matthew 13:26
The Lord doesn't weed His garden (Mt 13:29). Jesus explained to His disciples that the field is the world, the wheat are the children of the kingdom, and the weeds are the children of the evil one (see Mt 13:38). Therefore, if you're a child of the kingdom of God, you must suffer being intertwined with a lot of weeds (see Mt 13:29). The Lord puts His people together with the children of the evil one so that we may love and serve them, in the hopes of leading them to conversion and faith, as if the weeds had turned into wheat. However, the very opposite can occur. The wheat can become like weeds and lose their new life in Christ (2 Pt 1:10; 1 Cor 9:27).
Thus, wheat must be concerned about converting weeds and not being perverted by them. Conversion and perversion are related. If we do the work of conversion, we will be in less danger of being not be perverted. However, if we ignore our responsibility to lead people to conversion, we are in a greater danger of becoming perverted. If we don't share our faith, we may lose our faith.
For God's sake, for weeds' sake, for your own sake, love a weed enough to tell him that Jesus loves him enough to die for him. Wheat your garden.
Prayer: Father, may I love weeds and show it.
Promise: "Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds; if each of you deals justly with his neighbor; if you no longer oppress the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place, or follow strange gods to your own harm, will I remain with you in this place." -Jer 7:5-7
Praise: Wearing a crucifix has opened up more than one conversation about Christ for Steven.

CONQUER YOUR ENEMIES - One Bread, One Body, 7/27/2018
Friday, July 27, 2018
Jeremiah 3:14-17, Jeremiah 31:10-13, Matthew 13:18-23

CONQUER YOUR ENEMIES
"Mark well, then, the parable of the sower." -Matthew 13:18
God's Word is fruitful, powerful, life-changing, and earthshaking. Therefore, our enemy, the devil, tries to prevent us from ever hearing it or at least from taking it to heart (see Mt 13:19). A second enemy opposing our living of God's Word is our lack of depth or roots (see Mt 13:21). When our relationship with the Lord is shallow, why would we suffer to obey His Word? Our third enemy against living God's Word is "worldly anxiety" (Mt 13:22). When we are worried about what we are to eat, drink, wear, do, think, feel, or spend (see Mt 6:31), we are so preoccupied that we become perpetual, spiritual procrastinators.
Our fourth enemy is "the lure of money" (Mt 13:22). "The love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Tm 6:10). Materialism is one of the most toxic and addictive of all substances. If we love the world and the things that it affords, God the Father's love has no place in us (1 Jn 2:15). Our fifth enemy is the fear of man instead of the fear of the Lord. When we worry about being politically correct instead of speaking the truth in love (Eph 4:15), we put God into a lower place and risk the sin of idolatry.
In Christ, in love for Him and obedience to Him, we have victory over all these enemies of God's Word. Conquer your enemies.
Prayer: Father, make Your Word extremely fruitful in my life.
Promise: "I will appoint over you shepherds after My own heart, who will shepherd you wisely and prudently." -Jer 3:15
Praise: By prayer and fasting, Patrick drew his brother back to the Church.

SOW AND TELL - One Bread, One Body, 7/26/2018
Thursday, July 26, 2018, Sts. Joachim & Anne
Jeremiah 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13, Psalm 36:6-11, Matthew 13:10-17
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072618.cfm
SOW AND TELL
"Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them which says: 'Listen as you will, you shall not understand, look intently as you will, you shall not see. Sluggish indeed is this people's heart. They have scarcely heard with their ears, they have firmly closed their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back to Me, and I should heal them.' " -Matthew 13:14-15
The above passage is a Scripture quote from Isaiah 6:9-10. Isaiah had seen a vision of God, was purified, and accepted God's call to be His prophet (Is 6:1-8). Upon saying his 'Yes' to God, the Lord spoke the above words to Isaiah. In essence, God told Isaiah that by faithfully prophesying an understandable message, it would be as if Isaiah was causing obstinacy rather than repentance. Isaiah 6:9-10 is quoted no less than five times in the New Testament (Mt 13:14-15; Mk 4:12; Lk 8:10; Jn 12:40; Acts 28:26-27), making it one of the most quoted Old Testament passages.
Jesus is reminding us that we must be faithful to God's calling to spread His Word, regardless of the results. We must go out and sow, no matter what (Mt 13:4). If people don't receive God's Word, why should we be surprised? The New Testament has prepared us five times for this rejection. Our response is to be that of Jesus: we must, like a good teacher, attempt to find a way to reach our hearers on their level, using parables (Mt 13:10), stories, discourses, explanations, etc. In so doing, some will repent, turn back to Jesus, and be healed (Mt 13:15).
Prayer: Jesus, make me an ever more faithful and effective Scripture teacher.
Promise: "For with You is the fountain of life, and in Your light we see light." -Ps 36:10
Praise: St. Anne and her daughter, Mary, were the only two women in history to carry immaculately conceived children in their wombs.
(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.)

" -Matthew 13:14-15

THE HEAD OF THE CLASS
"We believe and so we speak, knowing that He Who raised up the Lord Jesus will raise us up along with Jesus." -2 Corinthians 4:13-14
St. James must have been one powerful apostle! When "King Herod started to harass" the Church, his first move was to cut off James' head (Acts 12:1, 2). "This pleased certain of the Jews" (Acts 12:3). Only after James was killed did Herod turn his attention to arresting Peter (Acts 12:3). James, who was the first apostle to die for love of Jesus, was obviously one giant headache for Herod and the Jews. James had the courage and the faith to speak out in the name of Jesus, knowing that he would share in the resurrection of Jesus (2 Cor 4:13-14).
Earlier, James had sought to be elevated above the other apostles (see Mt 20:24). Jesus patiently explained to James and the others that the way to aspire to greatness is to humbly descend into service (Mt 20:26-27). James eventually took Jesus' admonition to heart. After Pentecost, James did not try to preserve his own life. He was constantly teaching the people about the good news of Jesus the Messiah (Acts 5:42), working signs and wonders among the people (Acts 5:12). With great faith, James gave his own life for love of God and His people (Mt 20:28). Like James, may our lives be so powerful in Jesus that we are a headache to those who oppose Jesus and His kingdom.
Prayer: Father, may I be fearless in the Holy Spirit as was St. James.
Promise: "Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing." -Ps 126:5
Praise: St. James was such a powerful evangelist that his enemies were "pleased" to see him beheaded (Acts 12:3).

BROTHER GOD
"Who are My brothers?" -Matthew 12:48
Jesus transformed motherhood when He commanded His mother Mary to be the mother of all His disciples (Jn 19:26-27). Jesus transformed the meaning of fatherhood, sonship, and daughterhood when He told us to call God our Abba, that is, Father (Mt 6:9). This made us brothers and sisters of Jesus and of each other. Jesus said: "Whoever does the will of My heavenly Father is brother and sister and mother to Me" (Mt 12:50).
When we were baptized, we were baptized into a radically transformed brotherhood and sisterhood. Paul spoke of those who bear "the title 'brother' " (1 Cor 5:11). Brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ are recognized as special and exalted callings. Paul also spoke of "false claimants to the title of brother" (Gal 2:4). This implies that brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ are so valuable that we would want to claim these titles. If we are to claim in truth the title of brother or sister, we must lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters (1 Jn 3:16).
Consider brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ great honors. To claim these honors, lay down your life in love for your brothers and sisters.
Prayer: Brother Jesus, make me one in mind and heart with my brothers and sisters (Acts 4:32).
Promise: "As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt, show us wonderful signs." -Mi 7:15
Praise: St. Sharbel was a Lebanese hermit who became an exemplary Christian to the world. Devoted to Jesus' life of gospel poverty, he ate only one meal of vegetables daily.

"HOW GREAT THOU ART" - One Bread, One Body, 7/23/2018

"HOW GREAT THOU ART"
"O My people, what have I done to you, or how have I wearied you? Answer Me!" -Micah 6:3
There's no excuse for us to love the Lord with anything less than everything. He has loved us with an everlasting love (Jer 31:3). He has set us free from slavery (Mi 6:4). He alone has been perfectly faithful to us. He even died on the cross for us. What more can He do? Greater love than this no man has (Jn 15:13).
The Lord loves us more than we love ourselves. He is willing to forgive us before we ask for forgiveness. He loves us so much that it's impossible for Him to love us more. He loves us so much it's beyond our power to comprehend. Yet He does not limit His divine love because of our limited capacity to appreciate it.
Therefore, "let us praise Him the more, since we cannot fathom Him, for greater is He than all His works; Awful indeed is the Lord's majesty, and wonderful is His power. Lift up your voices to glorify the Lord, though He is still beyond your power to praise; Extol Him with renewed strength, and weary not, though you cannot reach the end: For who can see Him and describe Him? or who can praise Him as He is?" (Sir 43:29-33) "More than this we need not add; let the last word be, He is all in all!" (Sir 43:28)
Prayer: "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all my being, bless His holy name" (Ps 103:1). "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior" (Lk 1:46-47).
Promise: "She came from the farthest corner of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon; but you have a greater than Solomon here." -Mt 12:42
Praise: St. Bridget and her daughter Catherine are both canonized saints. They ministered together for many years.
(We offer a retreat for those who are broken-hearted because of divorce or separation, Sept. 14-16, and one for those who are facing the challenge of widowhood, Sept. 15. The Lord wants to minister to you! Call 937-587-5464 or 513-373-2397 or visit www.presentationministries.com.)

PM eNewsletter 16th Sunday in ordinary time
July 22nd 16th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, oh! Jesus Your church celebrates the feast of St. James, the apostle.
He was an ordinary person, who through Your grace, became a pillar of Your church.
He followed You without question, and gave up all of his known beliefs and was
converted to You.
Jesus, give us that grace to constantly be converted to following You without fear.
Let us be truly Catholic christians, who love all as best they can, and evangelize
by how they live and love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday PEACE TALKS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/22/2018
"It is He Who is our Peace, and Who made the two of us one by breaking down the barrier of hostility
that kept us apart." -Ephesians 2:14
Micah prophesied that the Messiah would not only be peaceful or make peace but that He would be Peace
(Mi 5:4). Moreover, Jesus began the Sermon on the Mount, the quintessence of His preaching, by
proclaiming: "Blest too the peacemakers; they shall be called sons of God" (Mt 5:9). On the night
before He died, Jesus announced that He would leave peace to His disciples in His last will and
testament (Jn 14:27). Considering all this and more, St. Paul came to the conclusion that Jesus "is
our Peace" (Eph 2:14), Who establishes peace (Eph 2:15) and announces "peace to you who were far off,
and to those who were near" (Eph 2:17).
It is clear that Jesus is Peace. But is He your Peace? For this to be so, we must follow Jesus by
making peace through the blood of the cross (Col 1:20). For Jesus to be our Peace, we must accept
Jesus as our Peace by forgiving, loving, and reconciling with everyone, including our enemies. We
make Jesus our Peace at the cross. Take up the cross of Peace, your Peace.
Prayer: Father, give me peace on earth and in heaven forever.
Promise: "I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them so that they need no longer fear
and tremble; and none shall be missing, says the Lord." -Jer 23:4
Praise: Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He has conquered sin and death. Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
CHOSEN BY THE LORD
...The Lord has chosen each one of us "to be holy and blameless before Him in love" (Eph 1:4). (2)
CONSTANT ADVANCE
The Letter to the Hebrews ... invites us to realize that "a great cloud of witnesses" (12:1) impels
us to advance constantly towards the goal. These witnesses may include our own mothers, grandmothers
or other loved ones (cf. 2 Tim 1:5). Their lives may not always have been perfect, yet even amid
their faults and failings they kept moving forward and proved pleasing to the Lord. (3)
LIVES OF LOVE
We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we
do, wherever we find ourselves. (14)

Alleluia!

HOPE IN THE MIDST OF TRIALS - One Bread, One Body, 7/21/2018

HOPE IN THE MIDST OF TRIALS
Jesus "will not contend or cry out, nor will His voice be heard in the streets. The bruised reed He will not crush; the smoldering wick He will not quench until judgment is made victorious." -Matthew 12:19-20
There are many evil things occurring right now. Family farmers, home owners, and many others are being victimized by subtle maneuvers (see Mi 2:1ff). Also, plots are being hatched (see Mt 12:14), people are being tortured, children are being aborted, and many other sins are being committed. This can be discouraging, but there's much more taking place.
Jesus is peacefully, quietly, and gently working to apply the fruits of His redemption. If we are baptized into Jesus, our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Col 3:3). We in Christ are also living and working, and the smallest details of our lives are charged with power because we are God's children living in Him and part of the communion of saints. Great evils are taking place in our midst, but a greater grace is also at work (see Rm 5:20-21). Therefore, we have every reason to be full of hope in the name of Jesus (Mt 12:21).
Prayer: Father, in the midst of evil fill me with hope.
Promise: "Here is My Servant Whom I have chosen, My loved One in Whom I delight. I will endow Him with My spirit." -Mt 12:18
Praise: St. Lawrence once found himself in a town with no Catholic Church and so walked forty miles to get to Mass.
(For a related teaching on "Developing A Deep Personal Relationship With Jesus", order, listen to or download our CD 52-1 or DVD 52 on our website.)

NOW IS THE TIME
"I will heal you: in three days you shall go up to the Lord's temple; I will add fifteen years to your life." -Isaiah 38:5
God is the Lord of time. He can add to our time here on earth. He added fifteen years to Hezekiah's life. The Lord can even stop time, as He did for Joshua for a day (Jos 10:13). The Lord, of course, can multiply time, as He multiplied the loaves and the fish. Astoundingly, the Lord can put time in reverse, as when the sun went backwards as a sign to Hezekiah (Is 38:8).
The Lord has given us the precious gift of our lifetime on this earth. We have the opportunity to advance His kingdom on earth by using our time to the fullest for His service. We can do this by repentance, evangelization, growth in holiness, and intercession.
The Lord can add to, stop, multiply, or reverse time. However, we need not be too concerned about all this, for we live in the present moment, and our opportunity to serve Him is now. Make the most of this present opportunity to serve the Lord (see Eph 5:16). "Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2)
Prayer: Father, may I use the time You have given me to love and serve You and all those You have placed in my life.
Promise: "The Son of Man is indeed Lord of the sabbath." -Mt 12:8
Praise: St. Apollinaris pled for religious freedom for Christians in the Second Century.
(To grow in holiness, read the Bible daily.

LIGHTENING
"As a woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pains, so were we in Your presence, O Lord." -Isaiah 26:17
Maimonides, a Jewish rabbi in the twelfth century, listed 613 commandments in the Old Testament. Moreover, the commands in the New Testament are much more challenging than those of the Old (see Mt 5:22, 28, etc.). We are obligated to obey God's commandments, for if we don't act on God's Word, we deceive ourselves (Jas 1:22). Moreover, "whoever falls into sin on one point of the law, even though he keeps the entire remainder, has become guilty on all counts" (Jas 2:10). We are in an impossible situation. The weight of God's law is overwhelming. We must obey God's law, but we cannot do it.
Jesus offers to rescue us from this dilemma when He invites us: "Come to Me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you" (Mt 11:28). If we ask Him, Jesus will take over our lives. He will accomplish all that we need to do (see Is 26:12). "He Who calls us is trustworthy, therefore He will do it" (1 Thes 5:24). Life in Christ is not a "do-it-yourself" program; it is a "let-it-be-done" situation. "Salvation we have not achieved for the earth, the inhabitants of the world cannot bring it forth" (Is 26:18). Jesus is the only Savior. "There is no salvation in anyone else, for there is no other name in the whole world given to men by which we are to be saved" (Acts 4:12). Trying to obey even one of God's commands by our own power will crush us. Obeying hundreds of His commands by His grace will be easy and light (Mt 11:30).
Lighten up. Give your life to the Light.
Prayer: Father, teach me to depend on You alone for everything.
Promise: "Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart." -Mt 11:29
Praise: Even though weary from his daily work, Robert takes time to visit Jesus in the Eucharist and feels the great blessing of His quiet presence.

WE ARE HIS INSTRUMENTS AND CHILDREN - One Bread, One Body, 7/18/2018

WE ARE HIS INSTRUMENTS AND CHILDREN
"Will the axe boast against Him Who hews with it?" -Isaiah 10:15
We are instruments and tools in God's hands. Our loving Father employs us according to who we are and what gifts we have. We can experience this both in the present and through hindsight, seeing how the Father has directed our lives. Our Father employs us using a symphony of our free choices and His divine, loving omnipotence. As an example of this, the homilist at today's Mass mentioned that his own free choice to attend a Calvinist seminary was used by God as a part of His plan to lead him both to the Catholic Church and to the Catholic priesthood. This combination of being God's children and His instruments is a great comfort because it reminds us that we are children of a loving Father (Mt 11:25ff) and that we can be fruitful and useful (see Phlm 20) in the kingdom of God.
God even uses the bad guys as His instruments, such as the king of Assyria (see Is 10:5ff) and Cyrus, pagan king of Persia (Is 45:1ff). How much more can He use His loving children who obey His will! We are not merely puppets in a divine play. We are children of a loving Father, ambassadors of a benevolent King. The Lord makes use of our freely-made decisions, both good and bad, and employs us as His instruments and tools. We are His saws, axes, violins, and beloved children. Be childlike in the hands of the Father. Allow Him to sharpen and tune you as He sees fit. Then let Him make use of you for His perfect will.
Prayer: "Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace."
Promise: "No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son - and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him." -Mt 11:27
Praise: St. Camillus ministered Jesus to children, the sick and the dying.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON JUDGMENT DAY?
"I assure you, it will go easier for Tyre and Sidon than for you on the day of judgment." -Matthew 11:22
Although many people don't want to talk or think about it, it is a fact that "we shall all have to appear before the judgment seat of God" (Rm 14:10). After dying (Heb 9:27) and at the end of the world (Mt 25:31), each person will be "judged according to his conduct" (Rv 20:13). The Lord "will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and manifest the intentions of hearts" (1 Cor 4:5). Those who have lost their lives (Lk 9:24) by totally giving them to Jesus will be saved. Those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, Lord, and God will be saved (Acts 16:30-31). Those baptized and living their Baptisms in love (Mk 16:16) will be saved, enter into eternal life, and see Jesus face to face (1 Jn 3:2).
Those who have turned away from God by serious mortal sin will be judged worthy of eternal punishment (see Mt 25:46). They will be judged as having decided to be "apart from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might" (2 Thes 1:9). They will be thrown out into the night to wail and grind their teeth (Mt 22:13). "Their lot is the fiery pool of burning sulphur, the second death!" (Rv 21:8)
Do not be so foolish as to forget about Judgment Day. But do not worry about it. Now give your life totally to Jesus, the Judge (Jn 5:22), Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16).
Prayer: Father, thank You for telling me the truth in love (see Eph 4:15).
Promise: "Unless your faith is firm you shall not be firm!" -Is 7:9
Praise: Jane spends her Sunday afternoons taking Holy Communion to the homebound.

NOTHING BUT THE CROSS
"He who will not take up his cross and come after Me is not worthy of Me." -Matthew 10:38
We are Christians, disciples of Christ. We follow Jesus, Who saved us not so much through His power or wisdom, but through His ministry of suffering. Jesus came to earth to die on the cross to atone for our sins, pay the price for our salvation (1 Cor 6:20), and reconcile us to God (Col 1:20).
We must never over-spiritualize our faith and forget that Jesus suffered horribly in the flesh (Heb 5:8). Jesus died a disgraceful death. He was publicly humiliated, scorned as a condemned criminal. He Who was holy and innocent bore a cross meant for a murderer (Lk 23:25).
We Christians imitate Jesus. We take up our cross each day, deny our very selves, and follow in His footsteps (Lk 9:23). This is impossible in our human nature. Through our baptism into Jesus' cross and death, however, we become sharers in the divine nature (Rm 6:4; 2 Pt 1:4). Now we can embrace the cross as Jesus embraced His cross. In the mystery of the cross, by taking up our cross, we discover who we are (Mt 10:39).
If you falter carrying your cross, remember that Jesus understands. He fell several times carrying His cross. He knows the cross is heavy but He also wants you to know the joy in sharing in His sufferings (1 Pt 4:13). So cross off your list anything that leads you away from Jesus' cross. Take up your cross.
Prayer: Jesus, may I know nothing but Your cross (1 Cor 2:2). May I be crucified to the world and the world to me (Gal 6:14).
Promise: "He that offers praise as a sacrifice glorifies Me; and to him that goes the right way I will show the salvation of God." -Ps 50:23
Praise: A group of lay Carmelite families spread the Word of God by composing music, giving concerts at Catholic churches, and sharing God's Word as they travel.

PM eNewsletter 15th Sunday in ordinary time
July 15th 15th Sunday in ordinary time.
Jesus, again and again, we try to walk with You, but our life gets in the way.
We start to worry and fret, we get anxious and fearful, instead of just trusting You.
Jesus, give us the grace to truly trust you.
Let us truly realize that we don't have the answer, except You.
You, Christ, are the true answer to all of life, with all of its twists and turns.
Lord, help us truly realize that You have a plan, we may not understand it, or even realize it,
but Your plan will work out when You say it will.
Give us the courage to go forward everyday into trusting You and Your ways.
Keep us in the arms of You and Mary our mother.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday CUSTOM-MADE FOR PRAISE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/15/2018
"Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." -Ephesians 1:3
Before we were created, the Lord destined us to "praise His glory" (Eph 1:12). Our bodies are not
ideal for thinking, working, or running. Our human limitations are obvious when we forget
information, stumble over our words, stumble over our feet, or get tired. However, our bodies are
tailor-made to praise God. From our renewed minds (see Rm 12:2), singing tongues, praying lips, open
hearts, raised hands, to our dancing feet - we are created to praise God always and forever.
Our greatest praise of God is Eucharistic worship. At Mass, Jesus, the eternal High Priest, is not
only the Object of our praises but also the Leader of our praise and worship to the Father and in
the Holy Spirit. Through, with, and in Jesus we share at Mass in the heavenly praises offered by the
angels and saints to the Holy Trinity.
In this book, One Bread, One Body, we try to help you better understand, appreciate, and apply the
readings for Mass. Thus, you will better celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, the first part of our
praise and worship at Mass. If we are helping you praise the Lord and worship in the Eucharist,
please let us know, for this is the purpose of our ministry.
Praise the Lord always and forever! Praise our Eucharistic Lord!
Prayer: Father, fashion perfect praise in my life (see Ps 8:3). "Let the high praises of God" be in
my throat (Ps 149:6).
Promise: "They went off, preaching the need of repentance. They expelled many demons, anointed the
sick with oil, and worked many cures." -Mk 6:12-13
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus! You are "the Way, and the Truth and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
CALLED TO HOLINESS
ASK THE SPIRIT
Always ask the Spirit what Jesus expects from you at every moment of your life and in every decision
you must make, so as to discern its place in the mission you have received. Allow the Spirit to
forge in you the personal mystery that can reflect Jesus Christ in today's world. (23)
DON'T BE AFRAID
Do not be afraid of holiness. It will take away none of your energy, vitality or joy. On the
contrary, you will become what the Father had in mind when He created you, and you will be faithful
to your deepest self. To depend on God sets us free from every form of enslavement and leads us to
recognize our great dignity. (32)
AIM HIGH
Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be loved and liberated by God. Do
not be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less human,
since it is an encounter between your weakness and the power of God's grace. For in the words of
Leon Bloy, when all is said and done, "the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint."
