READY, GET SET, GO
Jesus "set His face toward Jerusalem." -Luke 9:51 (our translation)
Jesus "firmly resolved to proceed toward Jerusalem" (Lk 9:51). This was one of the most important decisions in human history. This decision to go to Jerusalem was a crucial moment in God's plan of salvation, for it ended in Jesus' saving death and glorious Resurrection.
Immediately after making this decision, Jesus was opposed by Samaritans and had to rebuke James and John to deliver them from the evil one (Lk 9:53, 55). We likewise face serious problems after we make our most important decisions for Jesus. How many people have been rejected by their friends and co-workers after they have decided to give their lives to Jesus! So many Christians have made the decision to be pure, only to face what seemed to be huge temptations, and even abuse, for trying to live a holy life.
After I had "set my face" toward the vocation of the priesthood, the devil tried to talk me out of it by spotlighting many abuses in the Church. Many Christian couples, after they have "set their faces" toward becoming a holy family, experience financial difficulties. Those who set their faces in obedience to God have unsettling experiences.
Nevertheless, we all must keep our faces set towards God's will in our life. If we do, we will finally rise from the dead after having suffered and died for love of Jesus. Set your face (see Is 50:7).
Prayer: Father, may I not move to the right or to the left, but be set in Your ways (Dt 5:32).
Promise: "Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to implore the favor of the Lord." -Zec 8:22
Praise: St. Therese was reared in an extremely devout Catholic family. She is the child of two canonized Saints, Louis Martin and Zelie Guerin.

WELCOME MAT
"Whoever welcomes this little child on My account welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him Who sent Me." -Luke 9:48
In the world, we don't welcome people because we don't welcome competition. We see other people as a threat. If they take their cut, there's less for us. We tend to be jealous, possessive, and contentious. We compare ourselves with others to see who is greatest (Lk 9:46).
In Jesus' kingdom, it should be the opposite. We welcome people with open arms. Other people are not "them"; they're "us." We're all members of the same body. "If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members share its joy" (1 Cor 12:26). We owe encouragement (Phil 2:1) and love (Rm 13:8) to one another. When we welcome our brothers and sisters in Christ, we welcome Christ and the Father (Lk 9:48). When we welcome one part of Christ's Body, we must welcome all. "If then you regard me as a partner, welcome him as you would me" (Phlm 17).
At our death or at the end of the world, we will be welcomed as we welcome. Either the devil will "welcome" us with clenched fists, abuse, and insults, or we will be greeted by angels, saints, family, loved ones, and Jesus Himself. They will embrace us and say: "Welcome home."
Prayer: Jesus, I welcome You as Lord of my life; I welcome Your Body the Church.
Promise: "Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy mountain." -Zec 8:3
Praise: St. Jerome was declared "the Greatest Doctor in explaining the Scriptures" by the Council of Trent. He translated the original languages of the Bible into the common language of the time in Rome, Latin. This Bible translation is called the Vulgate.

September 29th 26th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week Jesus, Your church celebrates three great archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael.
These three angels are shining examples of how You love us, and protect us, by sending them to be Your
messengers to us, and with all of our own guardian angels to be with us everyday.
Jesus, Your plan of loving us is so amazing that we can't really understand it or truly appreciate it.
But that doesn't stop You from giving us help that we need to get through this life, so that someday we
will come home and spend eternity with you.
Thank You for loving us.
Amen and Amen.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday HELL, NO!
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/29/2019
"I am tortured in these flames." -Luke 16:24
Jesus told a parable about a rich man who was in the netherworld - an allusion to what we would call "hell."
The rich man was in hell not because he was rich or because he refused to help the poor man, Lazarus. The
rich man went to hell because he was insensitive to Lazarus. He didn't even notice the poor man at his door,
although even dogs noticed Lazarus (see Lk 16:20-21). The rich man was not only insensitive to Lazarus but
also to Moses and the prophets, that is, the Bible (Lk 16:31). The rich man and his five brothers had put
themselves in such a state of spiritual stupor that they would not have been fazed "even if one should rise
from the dead" (Lk 16:31).
The rich man deadened his spiritual sensitivity by a worldly lifestyle. He "dressed in purple and linen and
feasted splendidly every day" (Lk 16:19). He was complacent, living for comfort, enjoyment, entertainment,
and pleasure (see Am 6:4-6). A worldly lifestyle doesn't necessarily put a person in hell, but it puts a
person in such a state of addiction to self that he chooses hell.
It is tempting to want to live a worldly lifestyle. However, Christians, who have been baptized into a
supernatural new life, sometimes live a worldly, soul-numbing lifestyle. How can this be? These Christians
are not living their Baptisms. Instead of rejecting Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises, we can
fall into the temptation to reject "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit" (2 Cor 13:13).
Jesus died so that we would all go to heaven. His will be done.
Prayer: Father, make me so secure in Your love that I will not become empty.
Promise: "Take firm hold on the everlasting life to which you were called when, in the presence of many
witnesses, you made your noble profession of faith." -1 Tm 6:12
Praise: Majesty, might, and power be to Jesus now and for ages to come. Amen (Jude 25).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
"WE MUST DO BETTER"
We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to concrete
action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become an
action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this end we
need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the other's
problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and this
ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all religious
persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and consists in
"doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."

HELL, NO! - One Bread, One Body, 9/29/2019
Sunday, September 29, 2019, 26th Sunday Ordinary Time
Amos 6:1, 4-7, 1 Timothy 6:11-16, Psalm 146:7-10, Luke 16:19-31
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092919.cfm
HELL, NO!
"I am tortured in these flames." -Luke 16:24
Jesus told a parable about a rich man who was in the netherworld - an allusion to what we would call "hell." The rich man was in hell not because he was rich or because he refused to help the poor man, Lazarus. The rich man went to hell because he was insensitive to Lazarus. He didn't even notice the poor man at his door, although even dogs noticed Lazarus (see Lk 16:20-21). The rich man was not only insensitive to Lazarus but also to Moses and the prophets, that is, the Bible (Lk 16:31). The rich man and his five brothers had put themselves in such a state of spiritual stupor that they would not have been fazed "even if one should rise from the dead" (Lk 16:31).
The rich man deadened his spiritual sensitivity by a worldly lifestyle. He "dressed in purple and linen and feasted splendidly every day" (Lk 16:19). He was complacent, living for comfort, enjoyment, entertainment, and pleasure (see Am 6:4-6). A worldly lifestyle doesn't necessarily put a person in hell, but it puts a person in such a state of addiction to self that he chooses hell.
It is tempting to want to live a worldly lifestyle. However, Christians, who have been baptized into a supernatural new life, sometimes live a worldly, soul-numbing lifestyle. How can this be? These Christians are not living their Baptisms. Instead of rejecting Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises, we can fall into the temptation to reject "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit" (2 Cor 13:13).
Jesus died so that we would all go to heaven. His will be done.
Prayer: Father, make me so secure in Your love that I will not become empty.
Promise: "Take firm hold on the everlasting life to which you were called when, in the presence of many witnesses, you made your noble profession of faith." -1 Tm 6:12
Praise: Majesty, might, and power be to Jesus now and for ages to come. Amen (Jude 25).

Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant the "Nihil Obstat" ("Permission to Publish") for "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from August 1, 2019 through September 30, 2019

QUESTION GOD - One Bread, One Body, 9/28/2019
Saturday, September 28, 2019, St. Wenceslaus, St. Lawrence Ruiz
Zechariah 2:5-9, 14-15, Jeremiah 31:10-13, Luke 9:43-45

QUESTION GOD
"They failed, however, to understand this warning; its meaning was so concealed from them they did not grasp it at all, and they were afraid to question Him about the matter." -Luke 9:45
We often question God concerning disappointments, sufferings, and failures. We ask: "Why me?", "How long?", "What's wrong?", "What can I do?" Yet we are afraid to ask the Lord other questions. He wants us to ask Him about our daily cross (Lk 9:23), not to get out of it but into it. Jesus calls us to ask how we can die to self to bear fruit for His kingdom (Lk 9:24). He motivates us to pray that we may know how to suffer redemptively in "the pattern of His death" (Phil 3:10).
The great saints often questioned God about getting into suffering and finding their joy in it (Col 1:24). Do we grasp the cross at all? (Lk 9:45) Are we afraid to question Jesus about this matter? (Lk 9:45) If we ask the hard question, we'll get a miraculous answer. We'll boast with St. Paul on "the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Gal 6:14). We'll pray with St. Francis: "We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You because by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world."
Prayer: "Jesus, keep me near the cross. There's a precious fountain."
Promise: "Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord on that day." -Zec 2:15
Praise: St. Lawrence Ruiz and his companions joyfully suffered rather than deny their King. They died in Okinawa from unspeakable tortures because they would not renounce their faith.

TRIPLE CROWN - One Bread, One Body, 9/27/2019
Friday, September 27, 2019, St. Vincent de Paul
Haggai 2:1-9, Psalm 43:1-4, Luke 9:18-22
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092719.cfm
TRIPLE CROWN
"The word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: Tell this to the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and to the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and to the remnant of the people." -Haggai 2:1-2
The Lord in His perfect plan of salvation put a prophet, a governor, and a priest together to rebuild the Temple, restore God's people, and renew the world. Historically, prophets were often persecuted by government authorities and priests. Sometimes governors or kings tried to usurp the rights of the priesthood. Then prophets railed at the government for its sin, sacrilege, and idolatry. Thus, it was rare for prophets, governors or kings, and priests to converge in solidarity and bring about renewal for God's people.
When Jesus became incarnate, these three roles, which had seldom come together, were united for the first time in the person of Jesus. He is the Prophet foretold by Moses (Dt 18:18; Acts 3:22ff). Jesus is "the King of kings and Lord of lords" (1 Tm 6:15). He is the eternal High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (Heb 5:10). Moreover, those who have been baptized into Jesus share in His prophecy, kingship, and priesthood (Catechism, 1546). Thus, by living our Baptisms in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we can renew the face of the earth (see Ps 104:30).
Prayer: Father, may I love the Church so much that I am willing to die to renew her.
Promise: "Bring me to Your holy mountain, to Your dwelling-place. Then will I go in to the altar of God, the God of my gladness and joy." -Ps 43:3-4
Praise: Besides serving his parish, St. Vincent de Paul founded congregations for the missions and the poor. He is well known for his charitable organization. He was a pioneer in clerical training and was instrumental in establishing seminaries.

STOP BEING FRUSTRATED AND CONFUSED - One Bread, One Body, 9/26/2019
Thursday, September 26, 2019, Sts. Cosmas & Damian
Haggai 1:1-8, Psalm 149:1-6, 9, Luke 9:7-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092619.cfm
STOP BEING FRUSTRATED AND CONFUSED
"Now thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways! You have sown much, but have brought in little." -Haggai 1:5-6
Like Herod, some people are "perplexed" (Lk 9:7) regarding some of the events in their lives. They rightly sense that their confusion would be cleared up if they met Jesus (see Lk 9:9). However, like Herod, when they do encounter Christ, they often retreat into selfishness and refuse to meet Christ on His terms.
Other people are frustrated. They "have sown much, but have brought in little" and "have eaten, but have not been satisfied" (Hg 1:6). "He who earned wages earned them for a bag with holes in it" (Hg 1:6). Deep down, these people know that their priorities are wrong. They are building their own houses rather than God's kingdom (see Hg 1:4). They can repent and be freed from frustration, or they can suppress the voice of their conscience and remain frustrated.
We don't have to be confused, frustrated, stressed, or unhappy. Peace, happiness, and fulfillment are as accessible to us as the decision to obey Jesus. In Him we have peace (Jn 16:33). We can rejoice in the Lord always (Phil 4:4). We "have strength for everything" through Jesus (Phil 4:13). Receive the abundant life (Jn 10:10) by accepting Jesus as Lord of your life.
Prayer: Father, I repent of sinning and making my life empty.
Promise: "Consider your ways! Go up into the hill country; bring timber, and build the house that I may take pleasure in it and receive My glory, says the Lord." -Hg 1:7-8
Praise: Sts. Cosmas and Damian knew what the Lord called them to do and did it well. They were twin brothers and physicians. Centuries later, St. Francis of Assisi discerned his call to ministry while praying in front of the San Damiano (St. Damian) Cross.

TRUST-FUN
"Take nothing for the journey, neither walking staff nor traveling bag; no bread, no money. No one is to have two coats." -Luke 9:3
Jesus commanded His disciples to "take nothing for the journey." This does not mean that they had nothing but that they did not control whether or not they would have something. Jesus later "asked them, 'When I sent you on mission without purse or traveling bag or sandals, were you in need of anything?' 'Not a thing,' they replied" (Lk 22:35). Jesus' disciples did not live in poverty so much as in trust.
When we take nothing for our life's journey but trust, we not only see our Father's providence for us, His children, but we also see miracles as we go "spreading the good news everywhere and curing diseases" (Lk 9:6). This makes credible our proclamation that the kingdom of God is at hand (see Lk 9:2). Thus, trust is not only the atmosphere for our journey but also the foundation for our mission.
If we try to control our lives, we will lose them (see Lk 9:24). If we give God control of our lives, we will gain them. Trust frees us from the tyrannical compulsion to control our lives. Trust frees us to receive Abba's love and power. "Trust in Him at all times, O my people!" (Ps 62:9)
Prayer: Father, in You we trust!
Promise: "He has given us new life to raise again the house of our God and restore its ruins, and has granted us a fence in Judah and Jerusalem." -Ezr 9:9
Praise: After surviving the loss of everything in the wildfires, James and his family thanked God.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant the "Nihil Obstat" ("Permission to Publish") for "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from August 1, 2019 through September 30, 2019

"ALL IN THE FAMILY" - One Bread, One Body, 9/24/2019

"ALL IN THE FAMILY"
"My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act upon it." -Luke 8:21
For the Israelites, blood lines were of critical importance. The commandment that "the life is in the blood" ruled both their dietary laws (see Lv 17:11) and their entire culture. Their heritage and family lineage literally defined them as a people and a nation.
Now in Jesus, the family is no longer defined by the blood line passed on from father and mother. In Jesus, the family is defined by a new blood line: the Blood of Christ. Faith in Jesus, through hearing His Word (see Rm 10:17), acting upon this Word (Lk 8:21), and being baptized into the family of God (Catechism, 1265) now defines membership in God's family. We ratify and renew this family membership by receiving the Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist, the family meal.
No longer is it necessary to shed the blood of lambs, bulls, or goats (see Ezr 6:17) to demonstrate our family loyalty. In joining the family of God through Baptism, we are changed. We are begotten from above, baptized into Christ's death and Resurrection (see Rm 6:3-4). We now see everything in relation to our new family. God is our Father, Jesus our Brother, Savior and Lord, and the Holy Spirit seals us into the family (Catechism, 1274). Mary is our mother, all who have faith in Christ are our siblings, and even those who do not believe in Christ are our potential brothers and sisters. Therefore, live the lifestyle befitting a member of the royal family of Christ (see 1 Pt 2:9).
Prayer: Jesus, may Your blood be upon us and our loved ones (see Mt 27:25).
Promise: "I rejoiced because they said to me, 'We will go up to the house of the Lord.' " -Lk 8:21
Praise: Penny and John had their wedding rings engraved "United in Christ" and He has been their faithful Partner for 60 years.

HOW TO MAKE A LIGHTHOUSE - One Bread, One Body, 9/23/2019
Monday, September 23, 2019, St. Pio of Pietrelcina
Ezra 1:1-6, Psalm 126:1-6, Luke 8:16-18

HOW TO MAKE A LIGHTHOUSE
"No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel basket or under a bed; he puts it on a lampstand so that whoever comes in can see it." -Luke 8:16
The Lord enlightens us when we hear or read the Bible and such commentaries on the Scriptures as this book, One Bread, One Body. God's Word, especially the Scriptures, is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Ps 119:105). "For God, Who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts, that we in turn might make known the glory of God shining on the face of Christ" (2 Cor 4:6).
The Lord holds us accountable to be good stewards of this light. We must not put the light under bushel baskets of selfishness or fear or beds of laziness and complacency. Rather, we should put the light of God's Word on the lampstand of the Church for all to see (see Rv 1:11-12). In other words, we must not so much go to church and live in the world as live in the Church and go to the world. To let the light of God's Word shine through us, we must be living in the Church through daily, practical Christian community. In this context, our light shines, and we receive even more light, especially through our brothers and sisters in Christ. This light shines not only to the rest of the Church but also through the Church to a world in darkness.
As light naturally changes the world, we who receive the light of God's Word supernaturally change the world by making the Church a lighthouse. Then the ancient prophecy is fulfilled: "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone" (Is 9:1).
Prayer: Father, teach me about spiritual photosynthesis.
Promise: "Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin and the priests and Levites - everyone, that is, whom God had inspired to do so - prepared to go up to build the house of the Lord." -Ezr 1:5
Praise: As a confessor, many penitents reported St. Padre Pio knew details of their lives they never mentioned.

PM eNewsletter 25th Sunday in ordinary time
Sept 22nd Twenty fifth Sunday in ordinary time
We call this season of the year, ordinary time, yet in You nothing is ordinary.
Just to know You in the Eucharist, and see You in the breaking of the bread, should be for us a cause of
great joy.
The fact that You are always with us in all the tabernacles of the world, ready to listen and help us,
should give us a tremendous sense of peace.
We know that You are truly there, just waiting for us to visit, and give You praise and glorify, thank
You, the Christ.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday GRACE AND PEACE
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/22/2019
"Prayer of this kind is good, and God our Savior is pleased with it, for He wants all men to be saved."
-1 Timothy 2:3-4
Jesus died on the cross so that all would be saved from sin, death, and damnation. We are saved by His
grace, which we must decide to accept by faith (Eph 2:8) and live in love with all our hearts
(see Lk 10:27). The decisions to accept God's saving graces are the most important decisions of our lives.
However, these decisions are extremely difficult to make, for we are strongly pressured by the world, the
flesh, and the devil to choose pride, pleasure, and selfishness rather than God's grace and love. However,
the Lord calls us to "lead undisturbed and tranquil lives in perfect piety and dignity" (1 Tm 2:2). In
this context, we are much more likely to repeatedly choose grace and thereby salvation.
Consequently, we must make it a priority to pray for everyone, particularly for godly leaders who will set
up a society of peace, tranquility, and respect for human rights (see 1 Tm 2:1ff). We must then submit
ourselves to the godly authority of pastors, government leaders, husbands, parents, employers, etc.
Our culture of death sets us up to reject grace after grace by making bad decision after bad decision.
However, a civilization of love in which we live "undisturbed and tranquil" lives brings out the best in
us as we decide again and again to live in grace. Grace and peace to you (Phil 1:2).
Prayer: Father, show me the relationship between lifestyle and grace.
Promise: "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or be attentive
to the one and despise the other. You cannot give yourself to God and money." -Lk 16:13
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, "the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords" (1 Tm 6:15).
Alleluia!

tried many different approaches and consequences and it's just getting worse. Please pray for wisdom for us
and for a miraculous cure for our son. I miss the kind and loving boy he was and and very upset by all his
deception and cruelty. It's destroying our formerly happy family.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
https://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-11.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
THE CHURCH AND THE POOR
For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple ways
and through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from misery are
not different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand to help and
support them, in such a way that no one is left behind, so that in our world fraternal solidarity may
boast its own identity card and citizenship, beyond any flashy slogans void of substance.
"HOPES OF MILLIONS"
The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions of
persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of that
great number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the opposite and
yet recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to be cooling.
"EFFECTIVE HELP"
The poor expect from us an effective help that takes them out of their misery... In this twenty-first
century that has seen considerable advances in the field of technology, science, communications and
infrastructure, we ought to feel shame for not having achieved the same advances in humanity and
solidarity, and so satisfy the primary needs of the most disadvantaged.

GRACE AND PEACE
"Prayer of this kind is good, and God our Savior is pleased with it, for He wants all men to be saved." -1 Timothy 2:3-4
Jesus died on the cross so that all would be saved from sin, death, and damnation. We are saved by His grace, which we must decide to accept by faith (Eph 2:8) and live in love with all our hearts (see Lk 10:27). The decisions to accept God's saving graces are the most important decisions of our lives.

Consequently, we must make it a priority to pray for everyone, particularly for godly leaders who will set up a society of peace, tranquility, and respect for human rights (see 1 Tm 2:1ff). We must then submit ourselves to the godly authority of pastors, government leaders, husbands, parents, employers, etc.
Our culture of death sets us up to reject grace after grace by making bad decision after bad decision. However, a civilization of love in which we live "undisturbed and tranquil" lives brings out the best in us as we decide again and again to live in grace. Grace and peace to you (Phil 1:2).
Prayer: Father, show me the relationship between lifestyle and grace.
Promise: "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or be attentive to the one and despise the other. You cannot give yourself to God and money." -Lk 16:13

BASIC NEEDS? - One Bread, One Body, 9/20/2019
Friday, September 20, 2019, St. Andrew Kim Taegon, & the Korean Martyrs
1 Timothy 6:2-12, Psalm 49:6-10, 17-20, Luke 8:1-3
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/092019.cfm
BASIC NEEDS?
"For when he dies, he shall take none of it; his wealth shall not follow him down." -Psalm 49:18
According to Sirach in the Old Testament, "life's prime needs are water, bread, and clothing, a house, too, for decent privacy" (Sir 29:21). The New Testament may indicate that the basic needs of human beings have been reduced by Jesus' coming (see Lk 9:58), for "if we have food and clothing we have all that we need" (1 Tm 6:8). Basic needs, according to the Bible, are very different from what most people today call basic needs. Today, in industrialized countries, transportation (like a car) and entertainment (a TV) are considered basic needs. Even the poor expect to eat more than bread and water. And items such as meat, sugar, and coffee are considered as the barest necessities!
Even if we don't think the Lord wants us to take literally these Biblical passages, He is at the least commanding us to drastically simplify our lives, to reappraise as loss those things we used to consider gain (Phil 3:7). "The world with its seductions is passing away but the man who does God's will endures forever" (1 Jn 2:17). The Lord is calling us to "have no love for the world, nor the things that the world affords" (1 Jn 2:15).
Pope St. John Paul II has warned us: "We need to turn to a more austere way of life...I therefore exhort the disciples of Christ and all Christian communities...to carry out a sincere review of their lives regarding their solidarity with the poor" (Mission of the Redeemer, 59, 60). In love for Jesus, let's be among the first in our society to align our ways of living with the truth of God's Word.
Prayer: Father, although my lifestyle doesn't make sense in our secularized culture, may it make sense on Judgment Day.
Promise: "We brought nothing into this world, nor have we the power to take anything out." -1 Tm 6:7
Praise: St. Andrew and his companions, of all ages, were martyred during several persecutions in Korea.

NOTHING WITHOUT LOVE (SEE 1 COR 13:2) - One Bread, One Body, 9/19/2019

NOTHING WITHOUT LOVE (SEE 1 COR 13:2)
"I tell you, that is why her many sins are forgiven - because of her great love. Little is forgiven the one whose love is small." -Luke 7:47
God is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16). So life in God is all about love. In fact, the Christian is about abiding in love and abiding in God (1 Jn 4:16).
First of all, we receive God's love. We are God's "beloved." He loves us infinitely, unconditionally, personally, and perfectly.
Then we love because He first loved us (1 Jn 4:19). Impelled by love (2 Cor 5:14), we come to decide to love God with all our hearts, all our souls, all our minds, and all our strength (Lk 10:27).
After receiving love from God and returning love to God, we begin to love ourselves (Lk 10:27). This makes it possible to love our neighbors as ourselves (Lk 10:27). We can extend God's love even to our enemies by forgiving them (see Lk 6:27, 35). Abiding in God's love, we can even lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters in Christ (1 Jn 3:16). We can even die for love of those who would put us to death.
Live forever in love. Love God, Who is Love.
Prayer: Father, give me enough love to repent.
Promise: "Your faith has been your salvation. Now go in peace." -Lk 7:50
Praise: St. Januarius and his companions were martyred in the persecutions of the Roman emperor Diocletian.
(For a related teaching on "Love", order, listen to, or download our CD 58-1 or DVD 58 on our website.)

TRUTH OR THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNBRIDLED SELFISHNESS - One Bread, One Body, 9/18/2019

TRUTH OR THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNBRIDLED SELFISHNESS
"God's wisdom is vindicated by all who accept it." -Luke 7:35
In our secular humanistic society, some people promote tolerance to the point of permissiveness. To do this, they must contradict themselves and be intolerant of those believing in objective, absolute truth, who in charity must oppose permissiveness. So secular humanists have problems with our statement that Jesus is the only Savior (see Acts 4:12) and the only Way to the Father (see Jn 14:6). Secular humanists get nervous when we say that not all religions are the same and that the Church is "the pillar and bulwark of truth" (1 Tm 3:15).
However, absolute truth is not a threat to freedom. Rather, selfishness and pride unrestrained by objective truth are contrary to freedom. Truth is bigger than we are and it protects us from ourselves. If we do not stand for truth, we are like the people of Jesus' times whom Jesus described as "children squatting in the city squares" selfishly trying to manipulate their playmates (Lk 7:32). Without submission to the truth, power, popularity, or deception will inevitably trample on human rights. Submission to the truth is the necessary basis for exercising and protecting freedom. "The truth will set you free" (Jn 8:32) from the oppression of unbridled selfishness.
Prayer: Father, inspire me to lay down my life for truth so as to safeguard freedom.
Promise: "Know what kind of conduct befits a member of God's household, the church of the living God." -1 Tm 3:15
Praise: Tom pays attention to the messages and writings of the Holy Father so that he will live his life in truth.

THE VISITATION OF JESUS - One Bread, One Body, 9/17/2019
Tuesday, September 17, 2019, St. Robert Bellarmine
1 Timothy 3:1-13, Psalm 101:1-3, 5-6, Luke 7:11-17
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/091719.cfm
THE VISITATION OF JESUS
"God has visited His people." -Luke 7:16
In yesterday's Gospel reading, Jesus healed by responding to the centurion's request made in faith. In today's Gospel, Jesus takes the initiative to heal. No one requested healing from Him; no one seemed aware of His presence until He stepped forward to raise the dead man (Lk 7:12ff). It is Jesus' nature to heal, to take initiative, to visit His people.
The people of Naim spoke rightly when they said that "God has visited His people" (Lk 7:16). The Son of God came down from heaven to earth to bless, heal, deliver, and make disciples of His people. It was also to destroy the devil's works and deliver His helpless people that Jesus visited us (see 1 Jn 3:8).
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit love us too much to leave us on our own. So the Father sent His only Son into the world so that we might believe in Him and have salvation (Jn 3:16). He visits for mercy and salvation, not for condemnation (Jn 3:17; Lk 7:16; cf Rm 8:1).
The Lord still visits His people today - in the Eucharist, the Sacraments of the Church, the Sacred Scriptures, and in His Body, the Church. Yet it is possible to miss His visitation, and this causes Jesus to weep (Lk 19:41-44). Therefore, each day roll out the welcome mat for Jesus. Open wide your hearts to Him (2 Cor 6:13).
Prayer: Jesus, You constantly knock on the door of my life (Rv 3:20). I welcome You into my heart.
Promise: "Of kindness and judgment I will sing; to You, O Lord, I will sing praise." -Ps 101:1
Praise: St. Robert Bellarmine, a Jesuit, developed the theological basis for the Catholic Reformation. He also prepared two catechisms which have had great influence in the Church.

HANDS UP! - One Bread, One Body, 9/16/2019
Monday, September 16, 2019, St. Cornelius & St. Cyprian
1 Timothy 2:1-8, Psalm 28:2, 7-9, Luke 7:1-10

HANDS UP!
"In every place the men shall offer prayers with blameless hands held aloft." -1 Timothy 2:8 "Hear the sound of my pleading, when I cry to You, lifting up my hands toward Your holy shrine." -Psalm 28:2
When a police officer arrests someone, he or she often commands the suspect to put their hands up. Uplifted hands are a sign of surrender. In our relationship with God, uplifted hands likewise are a sign of surrender. Humble surrender is the perfect posture before God for prayer and petition (Ps 141:2; 2 Mc 3:20).
At Mass, the priest often raises his hands during prayers. In addition to surrender, the raised hands recall Moses' posture of power and victory at prayer during an important battle. "As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest," the enemy "had the better of the fight" (Ex 17:11).
Upraised hands are a posture of praise and of receiving God's blessings (see Neh 8:6). They are also a way of expressing obedient submission to the Lord (Ps 119:48).
In the greatest example of surrender, prayer, praise, and power, Jesus lifted up His hands in surrender to His Father's will and allowed them to be nailed to the cross. As St. Teresa of Avila said, Jesus has no hands but ours. So put your hands in the nail-scarred, uplifted hands of Jesus. Let Him lift up your hands now, and one day He will lift up your body and soul to eternal glory (Jn 6:39).
Prayer: Jesus, I offer You my hands and my entire body as weapons for righteousness (Rm 6:13).
Promise: "In Him my heart trusts, and I find help." -Ps 28:7
Praise: St. Cornelius, with the help of St. Cyprian, fought against schism.

PM eNewsletter 24th Sunday in ordinary time
September 15th 24th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the feast of an apostle who lived the good life till You
called him.
Then he lived the great life of knowing You.
St. Matthew was a tax collector and enjoyed the pleasure of a big house, and lots of friends.
But, You, Jesus called him and he gave it all away.
Please Lord, give us the true understanding, that only in knowing You, will we ever find the real meaning
of life.
Let us see that all the things of this world will pass away, but being with You will never pass away.
You, Christ, are the way and truth of life.
Thank You for your love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE CANCER HARDEST TO GET
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/15/2019
"While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him and was deeply moved. He ran out to
meet him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him." -Luke 15:20
Unforgiveness is like cancer. If we don't "get it all," it will eventually kill us. Therefore, we should
focus on the person we are least willing to forgive.
Sometimes the "worst offenders" are our worst problem (see 1 Tm 1:15). We need to be willing to accept
God's grace to forgive the cruelest murderers, rapists, and terrorists. Only by the grace of Jesus can
we forgive anyone, in particular these worst offenders.
Sometimes the "repeat offenders" present the most formidable challenge. Yet Jesus commands us to forgive
seventy times seven times (Mt 18:22). His grace is sufficient (2 Cor 12:9).
For many people, the closest offenders are the worst. Spouses, children, parents, or people we see every
day have the greatest potential to hurt us. How humanly impossible it is to forgive prodigal children and
prodigal brothers! (see Lk 15:28)
Which person are you least willing to forgive? Right now, turn to Jesus and say: "Only by Your grace,
Jesus, I decide to forgive the person I am least willing to forgive." The cancer of unforgiveness is
totally gone. You can live with Jesus forever.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the miracle of forgiveness. Make me a minister of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18).
Promise: "So the Lord relented in the punishment He had threatened to inflict on His people." -Ex 32:14
Praise: Praise You, Jesus. You have revealed the Father's unconditional love for us all. We lift our hearts
in love to You forever.

Jesus told his disciples a parable: "Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit?
No disciple is superior to the teacher; but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher. Why
do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? How can
you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,' when you do not even notice the
wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see
clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye."

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves to
succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a dignified
life.

Monday HANDS UP!
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=9/16/2019
"In every place the men shall offer prayers with blameless hands held aloft." -1 Timothy 2:8
"Hear the sound of my pleading, when I cry to You, lifting up my hands toward Your holy shrine." -Psalm 28:2
Tuesday THE VISITATION OF JESUS
