PM eNewsletter Easter Sunday

March 31st Easter Sunday

Thank You, thank You Jesus, for giving us the right to someday come home and spend eternity in
heaven with the Triune God.

Jesus, You died that we might have life and have it fully.

Jesus, You rose to show us that there is an eternal life for all.

Your love is beyond all understanding and yet You, God, became one of us in all things but sin.

Then Lord, You carried all the sins of mankind to the cross, so that we could be free.

Thank You for all that You do and have done for us.

Thank You for continuing to love us, and helping us, and walking with us, till the day we come
home to You.

Amen and Amen.

Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday I DO!
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/31/2013

"They killed Him, finally, hanging Him on a tree, only to have God raise Him up on the third day
and grant that He be seen, not by all, but only by such witnesses as had been chosen beforehand
by God." -Acts 10:40-41

Alleluia! Jesus is risen! We don't have to wait to die to share in the power of Jesus'
resurrection. In Baptism, we have already "been raised up in company with Christ" (Col 3:1).
Like John (Jn 20:8), Mary Magdalene (Jn 20:16), and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus
(Lk 24:31), we can meet the risen Christ and live the risen life today by having faith in Him.

Today, at every Mass in every Catholic church in the world, the Church calls us to express our
faith in the risen Lord by renewing our baptismal promises. If we truthfully answer "I do" to the
six questions of the baptismal promises, our lives will be revolutionized. Then, during Easter
Mass and Easter season, God's Word will burn in our hearts and purify us (Lk 24:32). We will
recognize the risen Christ in the breaking of the bread at Mass and in receiving Communion
(Lk 24:35). We will receive a new Pentecost, be renewed in our Confirmations, be filled with the
Holy Spirit, and live the risen life.

Easter is for right now. Easter is for those baptized into Christ's death and resurrection
(Rm 6:3-4), for those believing in the risen Lord and living their Baptisms at all cost. This
Easter day can be one of the greatest days of your life, if you accept the continuing grace of
the greatest day of your life, your baptismal day. Have Easter now!

Prayer: Father, risen Son, and Holy Spirit, "I DO!"

Promise: "Let us celebrate the feast not with the old yeast, that of corruption and wickedness,
but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." -1 Cor 5:8

Praise: Jesus our Savior is risen! Alleluia forever!

Monday "WE ARE HIS WITNESSES" (Acts 2:32)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/1/2013

"Go and carry the news." -Matthew 28:10

Tuesday IMMERSION IN THE RISEN JESUS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/2/2013

" 'What are we to do, brothers?' Peter answered: 'You must reform and be baptized, each one of
you, in the name of Jesus Christ.' " -Acts 2:37-38

"Why do you search for the Living One among the dead? He is not here; He has been raised up."
-Luke 24:5-6

Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He's alive! "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your
sting?" (1 Cor 15:55) We as Christians have personally had the most overwhelming experience
imaginable. The One Who loves us so much, Who would do anything for us, was brutally murdered
by crucifixion. To have a loved one die is traumatic enough without it being a violent murder.
Amazingly, this Victim came out of the grave on the third day. We who love Him are
transformed from a shattered life to victory, from weeping to joy, and from mourning to
dancing (Ps 30:6, 12). Imagine a dead parent, spouse, or friend walking in the room right now.
This would be a shadow of what happens when we meet the risen Christ.

We may think we cannot meet the risen Jesus because ...........................

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/BST/bst2013-03.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS

A PEACEMAKER ...

The peacemaker, according to Jesus' beatitude, is the one who seeks the good of the other,
the fullness of good in body and soul, today and tomorrow.

GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE

In the eyes of the world, those who trust in God and His promises often appear naive or
far from reality. Yet Jesus tells them that not only in the next life, but already in this
life, they will discover that they are the children of God , and that God has always been
and ever will be, completely on their side. They will understand that they are not alone,
because He is on the side of those committed to truth, justice and love.

"TRUE PEACE"

Once we accept Jesus Christ, God and man, we have the joyful experience of an immense
gift: the sharing of God's own life, the life of grace, the pledge of a fully blessed
existence. Jesus Christ ... grants us true peace, which is born of the trusting encounter
of man with God.

THE BURIAL OF THE EUCHARIST - One Bread, One Body, 3/30/2013

Saturday, March 30, 2013, Holy Saturday

(no Eucharistic readings),

THE BURIAL OF THE EUCHARIST

On Holy Thursday, we celebrated Jesus' gift of Himself to us in Holy Communion. On Good Friday, we received Holy Communion, but had no Mass. Today, Holy Saturday, we have neither Mass nor Communion. During the day today, we can't even go to church and visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The church is merely a building. Today, the Blessed Sacrament does not reside in the sanctuary of the church.
The Church deprives us of Jesus' eucharistic presence for this day to help us experience the day Jesus was buried, when Jesus' physical presence was no longer on earth. After experiencing deprivation from the burial of Jesus' eucharistic presence, we almost scream with joy when we receive Jesus in Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil.

Prayer: Father, may I survive today.

Promise: (none)

Praise: (none)

TAKING IT PERSONALLY

Jesus "bowed His head, and delivered over His spirit." -John 19:30

During Lent, many churches depict the crucifixion of Jesus graphically. They show movies or slides showing the brutality of Jesus' crucifixion. Some churches display a real crown of thorns or even have you hear the pounding of the hammer driving nails into Jesus' flesh. The purpose of this is to show people that Jesus literally suffered and died for them and that the crucifixion is not just a story. A graphic depiction of Jesus' crucifixion is an occasionally successful attempt to lead secularized, lukewarm people to repentance.
However, for those who have a total, personal relationship with Jesus, these realistic recollections of Jesus' crucifixion are torture. What if your older brother was tortured and executed? Would you watch the video of His execution? Would you go to a play that dramatized his torture? Could you stand to hear the pounding, gasps, and grunts which were the sound-track of his sufferings? For hundreds of years after Jesus' death, Christians never put a representation of Jesus' body on the cross. His death was so personal to them that they couldn't bear to recall the details of His appearance, "so marred was His look beyond that of man, and His appearance beyond that of mortals" (Is 52:14).
This doesn't mean we should get rid of our crucifixes. It does mean that a deep, total, personal relationship with Jesus, our older Brother, should determine how we react to everything, including the depictions of Jesus' death.

Prayer: Jesus, may I react to Your death as I would react to the death of the person I love most in this world. May the deepest personal relationship in my life be with You.

Promise: "Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered; and when perfected, He became the Source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him." -Heb 5:8-9

Praise: (none)

FAST FOOD - One Bread, One Body, 3/28/2013

FAST FOOD

"You shall eat like those who are in flight." - Exodus 12:11

Moses commanded the Hebrews who were leaving Egypt to eat like those who were in flight from tyranny. This is likewise timely advice for modern Christians. We should eat as those who are fleeing:
* from sin,
* from a culture of death,
* from the slavery of sin and into liberation,
* from the bad news with which our culture bombards us and towards the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and
* from apathy and fleeing toward Jesus (Mt 11:28).

Those who are fleeing do not overeat, but consume only what will nourish them for that day's journey. Foods that can be prepared quickly are much more important than tasty foods. Those in flight live simply and pack lightly so they can travel rapidly; no excess baggage is possible.
There is still another way in which we should eat like those in flight: when we eat the New Passover, the Eucharist, we eat as free children of God. The New Passover of the Mass demands a new Exodus. "Flee from" the corruption and slavery of sin (see 1 Tm 6:11). Flee to the eucharistic Jesus. Be set free in Jesus.

Prayer: Father, liberated from my sin, I will soar with joy as I eat the Bread from heaven (Jn 6:50).

Promise: "This is My body, Which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me." -1 Cor 11:24

Praise: "Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore. O make us love Thee more and more."

PIERCED EARS

"Morning after morning He opens my ear that I may hear." -Isaiah 50:4

The Lord will open our ears every morning to hear Him. He will give us words to rouse the weary (Is 50:4). Because we hear God, we will speak in His name. We will have "a well-trained tongue," that is, the tongue of a disciple of Jesus (see Is 50:4, JB).
However, there is resistance within us to hearing God. The Lord often tells us things we don't want to hear. Then we either die to ourselves or rebel, refusing to hear the Lord (Is 50:5). Because others resist hearing God, they will try to prevent us from hearing God, for when we hear God, we will say things they don't want to hear. To shut us up they may beat our backs, pluck our beards, spit in our faces, or attack us in more subtle ways (Is 50:6). However, we must not rebel. We must set our faces like flint (Is 50:7) and let God open our ears to hear Him, no matter what the consequences.
Jesus is the perfect Example of this. He is the Incarnate Word of God. Every morning He opened His ear to His heavenly Father and then proclaimed the truth. There was such resistance to His words that He was crucified, but Jesus did not rebel.
Hear as Jesus heard; speak as Jesus spoke; suffer as Jesus suffered; die as Jesus died; rise as Jesus rose.

Prayer: Father, may I hear You this Holy Week no matter what the consequences.

Promise: "I am to celebrate the Passover with My disciples in your house." -Mt 26:18

Praise: Bernice ministers to Jesus by teaching underprivileged and retarded children.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

"For now the Lord has spoken Who formed Me as His Servant from the womb, that Jacob may be brought back to Him and Israel gathered to Him." -Isaiah 49:5

Jesus is like "a sharp-edged sword" or "a polished arrow" (Is 49:2). He can pierce us and cause us pain. Jesus is like a concealed sword or hidden arrow (Is 49:2). Unless we are attentive, we won't notice Him. Jesus' work in our lives at first often appears to be "in vain, and for nothing" (Is 49:4). Consequently, to be open to Jesus, we must suffer pain, be attentive, and persevere in walking "by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7). It is difficult to be open to Jesus.
In one way, Jesus is the most attractive Person Who has ever lived. After being lifted up in His death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus draws all people to Himself (Jn 12:32). Yet, in other ways, Jesus is not attractive. "There was in Him no stately bearing to make us look at Him, nor appearance that would attract us to Him. He was spurned and avoided by men, a Man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity, One of those from Whom men hide their faces, spurned, and we held Him in no esteem" (Is 53:2-3).
Jesus simultaneously attracts and repels us. If we focus on ourselves, we will spin away from Him. If we die to ourselves, we will gravitate toward Him. Sin disrupts the attraction of Jesus' love. Repentance and faith lock us into his love. "Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you" (Jas 4:8).

Prayer: Jesus, may I be baptized into, immersed in, and preoccupied with Your love.

Promise: "God will, in turn, glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him soon." -Jn 13:32

Praise: After a prayer meeting one night, the Martins and the McCoys, both deeply in debt, burned their credit cards and put their finances in the Lord's hands.

BROKEN FOR JESUS

"Mary brought a pound of costly perfume made from genuine aromatic nard, with which she anointed Jesus' feet. Then she dried His feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the ointment's fragrance." -John 12:3

Mary of Bethany anointed Jesus with very expensive perfume, worth a year's salary. Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve apostles, objected to Mary's extravagance (Jn 12:4ff). Several other apostles "were infuriated at her" (Mk 14:5). Others were indignant at this "extravagant waste of perfume" (Mk 14:4).
In a parallel passage in Mark's Gospel, the text reveals that Mary broke the jar of expensive perfume just before she used it to anoint Jesus (Mk 14:3). This is a very important detail for Holy Week. Mary knew the apostles well, and possibly sensed that some would object to her total self-giving.
Breaking the jar might have been Mary's way of ensuring she could give all the perfume to Jesus. Once she broke the jar, the perfume could no longer be preserved for long-term use, and thus no one could stop her from giving all the perfume to Jesus. Elisha acted similarly when he slaughtered his oxen and burned his plow before following the prophet Elijah (1 Kgs 19:21). Once he "burned his bridges behind him," there was no turning back.
In breaking the jar, Mary foreshadowed Jesus' breaking of the bread in the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Jesus was broken for you and for all. Jesus gave every last drop of His blood on Calvary. Will you let Jesus break the strongholds of sin, pride, and fear in your life? Will you let yourself be broken for Jesus? Will you step out in love for Him, knowing there is no turning back?

Prayer: Jesus, this is my life, to be given up for You.

Promise: "I, the Lord, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand." -Is 42:6

Praise: Elizabeth decided to accept Christ as Messiah even though she risked losing her family.

God Bless you and all you care for.

The editor

March 24th Passion (Palm) Sunday

Merciful God, Your love for us goes beyond measure.

It is really, very, very hard for us to truly understand the love that You have for us.

A love that led You to the cross, so that we might be saved, and have eternal life.

Jesus, we all caused Your agony, and pain, and yet You forgave us.

Your love cannot be measured.

Jesus, grace us to love all, as You love.

Jesus, grace us to forgive all, as You have forgiven us.

Grant us the desire to come and sit before Your crucifix, and truly spend time in seeing Your
love for us hanging on the cross.

Let us be amazed and humbled, help us to get to the Sacrament of reconciliation, and so enter
into Easter free of the stain of humanity's sins.

Amen and Amen.

Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday PALMS OR ASHES?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/24/2013

"On His approach to the descent from Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of disciples began to
rejoice and praise God loudly." -Luke 19:37

The palms of Palm Sunday will either continue to be used as palms to praise the Lord or they
will be burned to become the ashes of Ash Wednesday. They symbolize the best and worst
possibilities for Holy Week.

Our palms turn to ashes when:

our "Hosannas" change to "Crucify Him" (Lk 23:21),
the Palm Sunday parade doesn't lead to the way of the cross,
we stop praising the Lord openly and instead give Him the "silent treatment"(see Lk 22:57-60),
and we don't make Holy Week absolutely our top priority.
Our palms remain as palms, and perhaps even our ashes return to palms when:

morning after morning we open our ears to God (Is 50:4),
we repent of our sins (see Lk 22:62) and go to Confession,
we publicly proclaim: "JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!" (Phil 2:11), and
we make Holy Week our top priority.

In heaven, the saints stand "before the throne and the Lamb, dressed in long white robes and
holding palm branches in their hands" (Rv 7:9). Some palms and Palm Sundays last forever.
Yours can as well. With the heavenly saints, hold your palms and cry out "in a loud voice:
'Salvation is from our God, Who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb!' " (Rv 7:10)

Prayer: "Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit" (Lk 23:46).

Promise: "This day you will be with Me in paradise." -Lk 23:43

Praise: "Blessed is He Who comes as King in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory
in the highest!" (Lk 19:38)

GIFT-LISTS

"Seek eagerly after love. Set your hearts on spiritual gifts." -1 Corinthians 14:1

Pope John Paul II has taught: "The Holy Spirit, while bestowing diverse ministries in Church
communion, enriches it still further with particular gifts or promptings of grace, called
charisms...The charisms are received in gratitude both on the part of the one who receives them,
and also on the part of the entire Church. They are in fact a singularly rich source of grace
for the vitality of the apostolate and for the holiness of the whole Body of Christ
(The Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People, 24).

Pope John Paul II has also taught: "The Spirit of Jesus, received by the humble and docile
heart of the believer, brings about the flourishing of Christian moral life and the witness
of holiness amid the great variety of vocations, gifts, responsibilities, conditions and life
situations. As Novatian once pointed out - here expressing the authentic faith of the Church - it
is the Holy Spirit 'who confirmed the hearts and minds of the disciples, who revealed the
mysteries of the Gospel, who shed upon them the light of things divine. Strengthened by his gift,
they did not fear either prisons or chains for the name of the Lord; indeed they even trampled
upon the powers and torments of the world, armed and strengthened by him, having in themselves
the gifts which this same Spirit bestows and directs like jewels to the Church, the Bride of
Christ. It is in fact he who raises up prophets in the Church, instructs teachers, guides
tongues, works wonders and healings, accomplishes miracles, grants the discernment of spirits,
assigns governance, inspires counsels, distributes and harmonizes every other charismatic gift'
" (The Splendor of Truth, 108).

(We encourage you to read the prophet, Isaiah, during Advent). The following arrangement will

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS

"AUTHENTIC PEACEMAKERS"

To become authentic peacemakers, it is fundamental to keep in mind our transcendent dimension
and to enter into constant dialogue with God, ... whereby we implore the redemption achieved
for us by His only-begotten Son.

PEACE IS POSSIBLE

Peace is not a dream or something utopian: it is possible. Our gaze needs to go deeper,
beneath superficial appearances and phenomena, to discern a positive reality which exists in
human hearts, since every man and woman has been created in the image of God and is called to
grow and contribute to the building of a new world.

SHAPED BY JESUS

Encountering Jesus Christ shapes peacemakers, committing them to fellowship and to overcoming
injustice.

THE GATHERING STORM CLOUDS - One Bread, One Body, 3/23/2013

Saturday, March 23, 2013, St. Toribio de Mogrovejo

Ezekiel 37:21-28, Jeremiah 31:10-13, John 11:45-56
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032313.cfm

THE GATHERING STORM CLOUDS

"From that day onward there was a plan afoot to kill Him." -John 11:53

The Book of Signs, which is the first half of John's Gospel, is coming to a conclusion. Jesus has just performed His seventh and final sign, the raising of Lazarus from the dead. In giving new life to Lazarus, Jesus will pay with His own life. Jesus will die instead of the people, so that the people will not perish (Jn 11:50). Jesus will give His life "to gather into one all the dispersed children of God" (Jn 11:52).
"Despite His many signs performed in their presence, they refused to believe in Him" (Jn 12:37). The hearts of sinful humanity are too hard to be converted only by miracles (see Lk 16:31). Now Jesus will make the transition from the ministry of signs and wonders to His ministry of redemptive suffering. His loving suffering will reduce men and women to silence (Is 52:15) and pierce the hardest hearts, leading them to repentance.
The storm clouds are gathering, and the troops of the evil one are mustering for battle. The war for souls is on. During this Holy Week, spend time each day praying before a crucifix for your own deeper conversion as well as the conversion of those who do not believe. May your intercession this week at the foot of the cross "prepare the way of the Lord" (Is 40:3) for an epidemic of repentance and conversion during Holy Week.

Prayer: Father, may thousands of people who do not believe in Jesus come to experience and receive His saving love for them this week.

Promise: "I will turn their mourning into joy, I will console and gladden them after their sorrows." -Jer 31:13

Praise: St. Toribio, archbishop of Lima, tried to correct injustices in Peru. He was told that these injustices were the customs and the law of the land. Toribio replied: "Christ called Himself the Truth, not custom." St. Toribio, pray to deliver us from our "custom" of abortion.

BELIEVING PLACES

"In that place, many came to believe in Him." -John 10:42

It's a glorious sunny day, and I'm inside. I'm sitting in adoration before my Lord Jesus, Who is exposed in eucharistic splendor. The weather is balmy outside, but inside the atmosphere is heavenly. In this place of intimacy before the real presence of Jesus, many come to believe in Jesus (see Jn 10:42). In this place, worshipers "realize what it means that the Father is in [Jesus] and [Jesus] in Him" (Jn 10:38). In this place, the climate is perfect for realizing that Jesus is God.
In eucharistic adoration, we are far more blessed than those who actually saw Jesus while He walked the earth (see Mt 13:16). The Jews in today's Gospel saw Jesus personally, and even saw the miracles He performed (Jn 10:38), but all they could see was that, in their eyes, Jesus was "only a man" (Jn 10:33). In two days, we will remember the crowds who saw Jesus enter Jerusalem as King, yet within a week they shouted, "Crucify Him!" (Mt 27:22)
Jesus once commented that those who believe in Him without seeing would be blessed (Jn 20:29). Yet in His mercy, He still provides a way for us to gaze upon Him two thousand years after He walked the earth (2 Cor 3:18). Therefore, "fix your eyes on" the eucharistic Jesus (Heb 3:1). Next week, in the holiest week of the Church Year, visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. In this place of believing, let Him fill you with "eucharistic amazement" (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Pope John Paul II, 6).

Prayer: Lord, "who would believe what we have" seen? (Is 53:1) May Catholics never consider Your eucharistic presence "ordinary" (Heb 10:29).

Promise: "The Lord is with me, like a mighty Champion." -Jer 20:11

Praise: Jose led four co-workers to Jesus.

I AM OR I? - One Bread, One Body, 3/21/2013

Genesis 17:3-9, Psalm 105:4-9, John 8:51-59

I AM OR I?

"Jesus answered them: 'I solemnly declare it: before Abraham came to be, I AM.' " -John 8:58

Jesus said He was I AM (see also Jn 8:28). I AM is the name for God (Ex 3:14). Therefore, Jesus called Himself "God." Those who believed Him worshipped Him and gave their lives to Him. Those who did not believe Jesus had no choice but to try to execute Him for blaspheming (Jn 8:59).
Today, many people, even Christians, don't worship Jesus and love Him with all their hearts (Mt 22:37). However, they don't hate Jesus. They are neither hot nor cold toward Jesus but lukewarm (Rv 3:16). This attitude is clearly wrong and illogical for those who believe that Jesus claimed to be God.
Because Jesus is I AM, we should be all His. He is the meaning of life, Life Itself (Jn 14:6; Phil 1:21). To give Jesus anything less than everything makes no sense. Jesus should be loved or hated, worshipped or ignored, obeyed completely or completely spurned. We should either tell the whole world about Jesus or try to rid the world of the lie and plague of Christianity.
Before this Lent is over, settle it with Jesus. Quit playing games with Him. Give your whole life to Him. Treat Him as God. That's the only true way to relate to Him. Say with Thomas: "My Lord and my God!" (Jn 20:28)

Prayer: Jesus, may my relationship with You only make sense to those who believe You are the great I AM.

Promise: "I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land in which you are now staying." -Gn 17:8

Praise: Joe started going to weekday Mass one or two days a week. This extra time with Jesus so deepened his love for the Eucharist that he now attends Mass daily.

I MISUNDERSTAND PERFECTLY

"We are no illegitimate breed!" -John 8:41

In John's gospel, the technique of relating a misunderstanding is often used to lead to a point of decision. For example, a group of Jews misunderstood Jesus' words and decided to reject Him (Jn 8:59). On other occasions, people misunderstood Jesus, yet decided to accept Him (see e.g. Jn 4:11ff).
Many misunderstandings occur simply because Catholics don't know their faith. God has blessed us abundantly with the clear teaching of the Church in her Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Praise God for the Church! If we don't take the time to know the teachings and expectations of living our faith, we have no excuse for misunderstanding God in those areas (see Catechism, 1791).
Are you misunderstanding the Lord about something not spelled out clearly in the Bible or the Catechism? It may be you can't understand in which direction God is leading you - to move, marry, accept a religious vocation, change jobs, or join a small Christian community, etc. As He did in John's Gospel, Jesus may be allowing this time of misunderstanding so He can work in you a far greater good than simply trying to lead you to make the right choice. He may be using your misunderstanding to give you the opportunity to accept Him as Lord of every aspect of your life.
Getting it right is important. Getting right with God is even more important. Misunderstand perfectly. Decide to accept Jesus and allow Him to lead you through the cross of misunderstanding into His perfect will for you, however long it takes.

Prayer: Lord, help me to rely not on my own understanding (Prv 3:5), but on Your ability to lead me (Ps 23:2).

Promise: "If the Son frees you, you will really be free." -Jn 8:36

Praise: Patricia now prays several times a day when not so long ago she had only prayed on Sundays.

JOSEPH'S HOLY DAY

"Forever I will maintain My kindness toward him, and My covenant with him stands firm." -Psalm 89:29

Holy Mother Church has recognized the holiness and trustworthiness of St. Joseph over the years (see Ps 89:29). Blessed Pope Pius IX named St. Joseph as patron saint of the universal church. The month of March is commonly known as the month of St. Joseph. St. Teresa of Avila shares in her writings a particularly strong devotion to St. Joseph, who never let her down when she asked for something through his powerful intercession.
Joseph is the legal father of Jesus (see Mt 1:24), acted as Jesus' guardian, and provided for Him. Because of Joseph, son of David, the prophecy of the Old Testament is fulfilled that the Messiah would come through the line of David (2 Sm 7:9-16), through the legal fatherhood of Joseph.
Joseph's faith was beyond natural ability. He became a foster-father to a Son conceived in the womb of a Virgin! Joseph indeed submitted his intellect and will to God. St. Joseph is a great example for us in fundamental obedience, as he followed the angel's instruction to take Mary as his wife (see Mt 1:20-24). Tradition says Joseph died in the arms of Jesus and Mary, and is therefore the patron saint of a happy death. In the litany of St. Joseph, he is called the "terror of demons." At the hour of our death, be assured that the demons are working overtime to steal each of our souls. Therefore, we can confidently entrust ourselves to St. Joseph, for he is trustworthy.

Prayer: O glorious St. Joseph, assist us in our every necessity.

Promise: "All depends on faith, everything is grace." -Rm 4:16

Praise: St. Joseph "did as the angel of the Lord had directed him" (Mt 1:24).

BATH AND BODY

"She decided to bathe." -Daniel 13:15

Today's first reading is more than a story of good triumphing over evil. It's an Old Testament preview of Baptism. When Susanna enters her bath (Dn 13:17-18), she is surrounded by the powers of evil, as represented by the two corrupt elders. Susanna is immersed in a dilemma of whether to save her life by yielding to evil or to cling to holiness and purity at the cost of her life (Dn 13:22). Susanna rises from her bath determined to trust in God, saying to the evil judges, "It is better for me to fall into your power without guilt than to sin before the Lord" (Dn 13:23).
Susanna rose from the waters of her bath free, pure, and victorious over the kingdom of darkness. As we are baptized, we emerge from the waters redeemed and uncondemned (see Rm 8:1). Most of us were baptized as infants. We can't remember emerging from the waters free and victorious. In her wisdom, the Church therefore calls us to regularly renew our Baptisms. This makes our Baptism new and alive for us. Just as important, it challenges us to live our Baptism in a new, holy, and faith-filled lifestyle.
In a few weeks, you will renew your Baptism at Easter Vigil and/or Easter Sunday Mass. As Susanna did, make the decision to entrust your life completely to the Lord. Prepare now to renew your Baptism. Reject sin and Satan. Hunger and thirst for holiness (Mt 5:6). Refuse to compromise with the kingdom of darkness in any way, even if you must endure persecution for holiness' sake (see Mt 5:10). Choose to be pure as Jesus is pure (1 Jn 3:3).

Prayer: Jesus, you gave up Your body for me (Lk 22:19). I give up my body for You. Be glorified in my body (1 Cor 6:20).

Promise: "The Lord is my Shepherd...Beside restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul." -Ps 23:1-3

Praise: St. Cyril encouraged catechumens: "Remove all obstacles and stumbling blocks so that you will be able to go straight along the road to eternal life."

The editor

March 17th, 2013 Fifth Sunday of Lent

Jesus, Lent is practically over, and we pray that we now know what exactly You want us to give
You as an Easter present.

Lord, what sin or defect of ours do You want that will help free us from the snares and
entrapments of this world?

Jesus, You gave us Lent as a time to pray, fast, and give alms, and You also gave us Lent as a
time of personal growth to You.

Help us to see that You always want us to become more like You, by growing in spirituality,
and getting freed from the ways fo the world.

By this freedom, we will be able to see the needs of others with clear eyes, that see to the
heart.

Let us be vessels of love and forgivness to all.

Thank You for Your love.

Amen and Amen.

Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday KNOWLEDGE-ABLE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/17/2013

"I have come to rate all as loss in the light of the surpassing knowledge of my Lord Jesus
Christ." -Philippians 3:8

Because of Paul's "surpassing knowledge" of Jesus, he came to rate all as loss. Paul's
personal relationship with Jesus changed the "ratings" in his life. Things he used to rate
high were reassessed as worthless and empty.

All of us have a "surpassing knowledge." Usually, our knowledge of and attraction to
pleasure surpasses all else. For many people, even Christians, food, entertainment, TV
programs, money, or lifestyle rate the highest. These surpass everything else.

Eventually, we experience a "surpassing knowledge" of tragedy and/or death. This changes
our ratings. In the face of death, we now rate as loss those things for which we formerly
lived. We feel so empty and regret that we've wasted our lives. We feel condemned by the
vain, stupid, empty priorities of our past life.

However, the surpassing knowledge of tragedy and/or death, which surpassed our preoccupation
with pleasure, can itself be surpassed by the personal knowledge of Jesus. When we totally
give our lives to Jesus, we no longer stand condemned by the empty priorities of our past
(see Rm 8:1). These vanities and regrets all disappear (see Jn 8:10). We give "no thought
to what lies behind but push on to what is ahead" (Phil 3:13). Life in Christ is not merely
meaningless stimulation but real excitement. Because of our knowledge of Jesus, life is a
race, not a drag (see Phil 3:12). Live in the light of the surpassing knowledge of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, "I wish to know Christ and the power flowing from His resurrection;
likewise to know how to share in His sufferings by being formed into the pattern of His
death" (Phil 3:10).

Promise: "See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive
it?" -Is 43:19

Praise: Risen Lord Jesus, praise You for revealing Yourself to us. You are the Light of my
life (see Jn 8:12).

The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 19 years. Begun by Fr. Al
in 1991, it now continues with three teachers trained by him and by Presentation
Ministries. In cities where local numbers have been established, the BTL provides
callers with a short teaching on the readings for the daily Mass. It is available 24
hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer request which
will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day.

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS

GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE

In the eyes of the world, those who trust in God and His promises often appear naive or far
from reality. Yet Jesus tells them that not only in the next life, but already in this life,
they will discover that they are the children of God , and that God has always been and ever
will be, completely on their side. They will understand that they are not alone, because He
is on the side of those committed to truth, justice and love.

"TRUE PEACE"

Once we accept Jesus Christ, God and man, we have the joyful experience of an immense gift:
the sharing of God's own life, the life of grace, the pledge of a fully blessed existence.
Jesus Christ ... grants us true peace, which is born of the trusting encounter of man with
God.

PEACE IS...

Peace concerns the human person as a whole, and it involves complete commitment. It is peace
with God through a life lived according to His will. It is interior peace with oneself, and
external peace with our neighbors and all creation... As Bl. John XXII wrote..., it entails
the building up of a coexistence based on truth, freedom, love and justice.
