HOW TO END A YEAR - One Bread, One Body, 12/31/2014

HOW TO END A YEAR

"Children, it is the final hour; just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many such antichrists have appeared." -1 John 2:18

Many "antichrists have appeared." "It was from our ranks that they took their leave - not that they really belonged to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have stayed with us" (1 Jn 2:19). There are baptized Christians who are officially members of the Church but do not belong to the Church in their hearts. These people have joined the Church socially and culturally but have not totally given their lives to Jesus and His body, the Church. They have been sacramentalized but not evangelized, and are in danger of becoming antichrists.
On this last day of the secular year, may each of us make a total commitment to Jesus. Jesus is God. He is the eternal and incarnate Word of God (Jn 1:1, 14). "Through Him all things came into being, and apart from Him nothing came to be" (Jn 1:3). Jesus is "the real Light Which gives light to every man" (Jn 1:9). We are not doing Jesus a favor by giving our lives to Him. We are privileged that He has given us the life, freedom, breath, faith, and love to give our lives to Him. How could we not give our lives to Him! Let's not let another year, day, hour, or minute go by without giving everything to Jesus. "To His own He came, yet His own did not accept Him. Any who did accept Him He empowered to become children of God" (Jn 1:11-12). Let's not only be in the ranks of the Church, but let's belong to Christ and His Church. Let's live for Christ and not be antichrists.

Prayer: Abba, as I begin a new year, I respond to Your love by renewing my baptismal promises.

Promise: "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, and we have seen His glory: the glory of an only Son coming from the Father, filled with enduring love." -Jn 1:14

Praise: Praise: Pope St. Sylvester believed in the power of fasting to defeat evil (see Mt 17:21). He declared Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to be fast days.

BREAK THE WORLD RECORD - One Bread, One Body, 12/30/2014

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

1 John 2:12-17, Psalm 96:7-10, Luke 2:36-40
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/123014.cfm

BREAK THE WORLD RECORD

"Have no love for the world, nor the things that the world affords." -1 John 2:15

"If anyone loves the world, the Father's love has no place in him" (1 Jn 2:15). If we are set on the things of the world, we are enemies of the cross (Phil 3:18-19). "A man is marked out as God's enemy if he chooses to be the world's friend" (Jas 4:4). Therefore, it is a matter of everlasting life or death that we both have no love for the world and be crucified to the world and the world to us (Gal 6:14).
What does the Lord mean by the "world"? "Carnal allurements, enticements for the eye, the life of empty show - all these are from the world" (1 Jn 2:16). Another translation is: "The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world" (1 Jn 2:16, RSV-CE).
"Who, then, is conqueror of the world?" (1 Jn 5:5)
* "the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God" (1 Jn 5:5),
* the one who receives the Holy Spirit, Who proves the world wrong about sin, justice, and condemnation (Jn 16:8), and
* the one who is at the foot of the cross where the Spirit crucifies us to the world (see Gal 6:14).

"The world with its seductions is passing away but the man who does God's will endures forever" (1 Jn 2:17).

Prayer: Father, make me a light to the world of darkness (Mt 5:14).

Promise: "She was constantly in the temple, worshiping day and night in fasting and prayer. Coming on the scene at this moment, she gave thanks to God and talked about the Child to all." -Lk 2:37-38

Praise: Margaret quietly and obscurely prays before the Blessed Sacrament and in so doing is instrumental in calling down God's graces to change this world for the better.

OBEDIENCE: THE ROAD TO LOVE - One Bread, One Body, 12/29/2014

Monday, December 29, 2014, St. Thomas Becket

1 John 2:3-11, Psalm 96:1-3, 5-6, Luke 2:22-35

OBEDIENCE: THE ROAD TO LOVE

"Whoever keeps His word, truly has the love of God been made perfect in him." -1 John 2:5

The purpose of the Christmas season is to grow greatly in love for Jesus. To grow in love requires God's grace, our willingness to accept His grace, and a process by which we are transformed and made more capable of loving. We go through this process of transformation by taking step after step in obedience. "By obedience to the truth" we purify ourselves "for a genuine love" (1 Pt 1:22). "The way we can be sure of our knowledge of Him is to keep His commandments" (1 Jn 2:3).
By obedience, Mary conceived Christ and loved Him more deeply than anyone has ever loved Him. By obedience, Joseph became the foster-father of Jesus and grew from love to love. By obedience, the shepherds and wise men saw the infant Jesus and began a new life of love forever. By obedience, Simeon "came to the temple" (Lk 2:27) where he met Jesus, the Light to the Gentiles, the Glory of Israel (Lk 2:32), and the God Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16).
Christmas is a journey into "the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love" (Eph 3:18). We do not know the way, but Jesus, the Way (Jn 14:6), will tell us each step to take. Obey Love on the road to love.

Prayer: Abba, lead me to love with a martyr's love.

Promise: "This Child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed - and you yourself shall be pierced with a sword - so that the thoughts of many hearts may be laid bare." -Lk 2:34-35

Praise: King Henry II was moved to do public penance for the part he played in the death of St. Thomas.

PM eNewsletter Feast of the Holy family

December 28th Feast of the Holy family

Jesus, as we end this year, let us see the power of love that exists
in the human family that should be like your Holy Family.

We all have our faults and failings, but they can be given to You, so
that we can be free to love those who gave us life and took care of
us as children.

Let us see that our parents did the best they could where they were at.

And let us pray for them to come and find the love that You have for all
families.

Jesus, help all children, especially those who had difficult childhoods,
and give them the grace to forgive.

Let this next year be a year of peace and love and forgivness.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday FAMILY FEUD
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/28/2014

"The Child's father and mother were marveling." -Luke 2:33

The holy families of today are walking through a mine field. One false
step, and the family is blown up. Christian parents must be Josephs who
know exactly when to leave and where to go. Parents must be divinely
inspired and guided because today even more Herods are searching for
their children to destroy them. Parents must know and live the Bible or
they will be hopelessly confused, and their families will suffer.
Family prayer has never been more necessary. Wives must be submissive
and husbands must love their wives (Col 3:18-19). Now more than ever,
children must obey their parents "in everything as the acceptable way
in the Lord" (Col 3:20).

Today's holy families need order, guidance, prayer, power, and protection.
Families need God, His amazing grace, and daily, if not hourly, miracles.
Holy families, don't be discouraged. The Lord promises: "Those who oppose
you I will oppose, and your sons [and daughters] I will save" (Is 49:25).
"All your sons [and daughters] shall be taught by the Lord, and great
shall be the peace of your children" (Is 54:13). This Christmas, let these
words become flesh in your family (Jn 1:14).

Prayer: Father, may parents be hopeful and confident about their families'
future and eternity because of Your saving love and almighty power.

Promise: "The Child grew in size and strength, filled with wisdom, and the
grace of God was upon Him." -Lk 2:40

Praise: In the Holy Family Mary pondered, Jesus submitted to, and Joseph
accepted God's will.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE ELDERLY

"A TIME OF GRACE"

In a special way, old age is a time of grace, in which the Lord renews
His call to us; He calls us to safeguard and transmit the faith, He
calls us to pray, especially to intercede; He calls us to be close to
those in need .... The elderly, grandparents have the ability to
understand the most difficult of situations: a great ability! And when
they pray for these situations, their prayer is strong; it is powerful!

"A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY"

Grandparents, who have received the blessing to see their children's
children (cf. Ps 128:6), are entrusted with a great responsibility: to
transmit their life experience, their family history, the history of a
community, of a people; to share wisdom with simplicity, and the faith
itself - the most precious heritage!

HAPPINESS IS ...

Happy is the family who have grandparents close by! A grandfather is a
father twice over and a grandmother is a mother twice over.

LOVE SUPREME, INFINITE, AND DIVINE - One Bread, One Body, 12/27/2014

Saturday, December 27, 2014, St. John

1 John 1:1-4, Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12, John 20:1-8

LOVE SUPREME, INFINITE, AND DIVINE

"On the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away, so she ran off to Simon Peter and the other disciple (the one Jesus loved) and told them..." -John 20:1-2

St. John has been traditionally identified with "the beloved disciple" (Jn 13:23; 19:26; 20:2; 21:7). However, the Church has also interpreted John 19:26 to mean that the beloved disciple may not be specifically named to show that he represents all of Jesus' disciples for all times. All of Jesus' disciples are beloved. All of His disciples can have a miraculous, mysterious relationship with Him in the Eucharist (see Jn 13:23). All of Jesus' disciples must stand at the foot of the cross (Jn 19:26), deny themselves, and take up the cross each day (Lk 9:23). All of Jesus' disciples can and must believe in the risen Lord (Jn 20:2) and exclaim publicly: "It is the Lord!" (Jn 21:7)
Christmas is the season when all the beloved disciples are especially invited to become more aware of being the beloved of Christ. Most of us know that Jesus loves us. However, no one knows how much He loves us. If we were to fully realize "one-millionth" of His infinite love for us, we would be so shocked we would die. Nevertheless, during this Christmas season, let us grasp as fully as we can with our human limitations "the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love, and experience this love which surpasses all knowledge, so that [we] may attain to the fullness of God Himself" (Eph 3:18-19).

Prayer: Father, at the Masses of this Christ-mas season, reveal more deeply in Your word Your Son's love for me.

Promise: "This is what we proclaim to you: what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked upon and our hands have touched - we speak of the Word of life." -1 Jn 1:1

Praise: St. John's exhortation in his old age was: "Little children, love one another" (see 1 Jn 4:7).

WITNESS STAND - One Bread, One Body, 12/26/2014

Friday, December 26, 2014, St. Stephen

Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59, Psalm 31:3-4, 6, 8, 16-17, Matthew 10:17-22

WITNESS STAND

"You will be brought to trial before rulers and kings, to give witness before them." -Matthew 10:18

Christmas is a special opportunity to witness for Jesus. Because St. Stephen was the first witness to give up His life for Jesus the faithful Witness (Rv 1:5), it is appropriate that he is the first of the Christmas saints. Witnessing is not just saying good things about Jesus. Witnessing is communicating a personal experience of Jesus. St. Stephen was a witness not just because he spoke about Jesus, but because he saw Jesus at the Father's right hand and proclaimed this to the crowd (see Acts 7:56). Witnesses for Jesus share not just what they have received from other human beings in conversation or instruction. Rather, their witness is based on their personal experience of revelation from Christ (Gal 1:12).
Moreover, witnessing is not just communicating a personal experience of Jesus. Witnessing is in the context of a trial. This may not be a legal trial but any situation where people have decided to cross-examine Jesus again and to pronounce judgment on His followers. These courts are set up at work, in politics, social events, entertainment, mass media, and even church. When we proclaim our personal experience of Jesus in a legal court or in a "kangaroo court," we are witnesses for Jesus in the true sense of the word. Then the Holy Spirit will put words in our mouths (Mt 10:20). We will be persecuted and possibly even martyred. Then Sauls will become Pauls, and Christmas will be truly the celebration of Jesus' birth.

Prayer: Father, may my simple, persistent witness shake the social fabric in which I'm involved.

Promise: "As Stephen was being stoned he could be heard praying, 'Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.' " -Acts 7:59

Praise: St. Stephen witnessed to a young unbeliever about the lordship of Jesus, the resurrection, and forgiveness of enemies (see Acts 7:56, 59, 60). This unbeliever, Saul, was eventually converted and personally led many thousands of people to Jesus.

LOVE-CHRISTMAS - One Bread, One Body, 12/25/2014

LOVE-CHRISTMAS

"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us." -John 1:14

At Christmas, we do not celebrate primarily that God became a human being but that God, a human Being, was born. At His birth, Jesus moved from the womb of Mary to the outside world. This made it possible for people to relate to Him in a personal way. Jesus was then able to be held, kissed, touched, seen, and heard. He was also able to be hit, hurt, rejected, and crucified. The change from being in the womb to living in the outside world is dangerous. That's why we celebrate a birth. A dangerous transition has been made without any serious problems, although the danger of living in a fallen world still remains.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, we can still relate to Jesus in a personal way. We can be like Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the wise men, Simeon, and Anna. We can lavish our love on Jesus - person to Person. However, we can also be like Herod by rejecting Jesus and refusing to make any room for Him in our lives and hearts (see Lk 2:7). Christmas reminds us that Jesus remains available to us on a person to Person basis.
On this first day of the Christmas season, obey the first commandment of all. Love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength (Lk 10:27).

Prayer: Jesus, on this Christmas Day, I decide to love You completely, unconditionally, and forever by Your grace.

Promise: "Of His fullness we have all had a share - love following upon love." -Jn 1:16

Praise: "Glory to God in high heaven, peace on earth to those on whom His favor rests" (Lk 2:14).

THE CHURCH'S MORNING PRAYER - One Bread, One Body, 12/24/2014

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

THE CHURCH'S MORNING PRAYER

"Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel because He has visited and ransomed His people." -Luke 1:68

Many hundreds of thousands of priests and religious have promised under pain of sin to pray each morning today's Gospel reading, Zechariah's canticle, as part of praying the Liturgy of the Hours. I promised to do this decades ago, and by God's grace I have kept my promise.
The Church so emphasizes Zechariah's prophecy because:
* It is a prophecy, and prophets are part of the foundation of the Church (Eph 2:20).
* Zechariah prayed this prayer when he was "filled with the Holy Spirit" (Lk 1:67). May we also be filled with the Holy Spirit when we pray it.
* This prophecy teaches us that each morning should remind us that Jesus is "the Dayspring" (Lk 1:78), the Dawn, the Light of the world (Jn 8:12).
* This prophecy immediately precedes the Bible's account of the first Christmas, and praying this prayer has proven a good way to prepare to meet Christ in a new way during the Christmas season.

Although most of you are not obligated to pray Zechariah's canticle each day, pray it today and each day of the Christmas season. You may decide to pray this prayer forever as Jesus guides your "feet into the way of peace" (Lk 1:79).

Prayer: Jesus, may I make any sacrifice necessary to give You myself as Your Christmas gift.

Promise: "Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before Me; your throne shall stand firm forever." -2 Sm 7:16

Praise: "Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel because He has visited and ransomed His people" (Lk 1:67).

FATHERS: REPRESENT THE HEAVENLY FATHER - One Bread, One Body, 12/23/2014

Tuesday, December 23, 2014, St. John of Kanty

Malachi 3:1-4, 23-24, Psalm 25:4-5, 8-10, 14, Luke 1:57-66

FATHERS: REPRESENT THE HEAVENLY FATHER

"...to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers..." -Malachi 3:24

Many earthly fathers don't have hearts for their children. In today's culture, there is an epidemic of fatherless children whose father is still alive. Sadly, too many children are "fatherless" even though their dad lives in the same house. Many fathers also do not have a heart for their possible future children. The job of a father is difficult, and is greatly under attack by Satan and his pawns who shape the modern, secular culture.
However, God calls fathers to one of the greatest causes in history: to represent Father God to their wives and children. This is an irreplaceable role in a child's life. God the Father loves all people with an everlasting love; fathers are called to teach this truth to their children through their constant fatherly love (see Jer 31:3). God the Father knows what His people need and provides for them without fail; fathers are likewise called to faithfully spend their lives trusting in God's provision for their family and working diligently to provide for their children (see Mt 6:32ff).
Fathers, do you have more faith in God's ability to provide for all the children He will send you, or do you have more faith in the constraints of a difficult economy, a rising cost of living, and soaring costs of education and health care? Do you use your tongues to bless God (Lk 1:68) or speak of all the reasons you shouldn't have children?
By their trust or fear, fathers teach their children to trust God the Father or not. Fathers, God has put the future of the world in your hands. Therefore, trust in God at all times (Ps 62:9).

Prayer: Father, raise up many godly fathers to transform this culture of death into a civilization of life.

Promise: "The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear Him." -Ps 25:14

Praise: "O Emmanuel, King and Lawgiver, Desire of the nations, Savior of all people, come and set us free, Lord our God."

"GLORIFY THE LORD WITH ME" (Ps 34:4) - One Bread, One Body, 12/22/2014

"GLORIFY THE LORD WITH ME" (Ps 34:4)

"My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior." -Luke 1:46-47

The words of today's Gospel passage, commonly known as the Magnificat, are prayed every single day by Catholic priests, religious, and some lay people in the Liturgy of the Hours. These are words to unite people each day.
Mary had a heavy cross to bear. When she prayed her Magnificat, she didn't know if Joseph would receive her or reject her. She could have said, "My cross is heavy, my future unsure, and I'm scared." However, she focused on the Lord, rejoiced in Him, and praised Him and the great works He was doing, saying with her Old Testament matriarch Hannah: "My heart exults in the Lord, my horn is exalted in my God" (1 Sm 2:1).
By fixing our eyes on the world and its gift-giving and receiving, we magnify the world's Christmas. Instead, let us approach Christmas as Mary did: by praising and magnifying God. When we magnify the Lord, it is as if we look closely at Him as though looking through a magnifying glass. God becomes ever larger in our sight. We cannot help but be overwhelmed by His greatness and splendor. We thereby fix our eyes on Him (Heb 3:1), forget ourselves, and are lifted up.
With Mary, rejoice in Jesus and "be ready to greet Him when He comes" this Christmas.

Prayer: Father, make me blind to everything that takes my focus away from Jesus.

Promise: "I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted my request." -1 Sm 1:27

Praise: "O King of all the nations, the only Joy of every human heart; O Keystone of the mighty arch of man, come and save the creature You fashioned from the dust."

PM eNewsletter Fourth Sunday of Advent

December 21st Fourth Sunday of Advent

Oh! Christ, You are about to come again as the babe in the manger.

Please help us to realize that You, as a baby, are all loving and all
forgiving.

That all of our sins can and should be washed away, so that this
year we can end on a note of praise and peace.

We can never truly have peace unless we are truly washed clean
in Your Blood.

Jesus, thank You so much for Your becoming like us in everything
but sin.

Let us be excited that You love us so much that You died that we
might have eternal life.

Let us, this joyous season, lift our voices in praise and glory to You.

Let us be freed from the bondage of sin and soar like the angels
in loving You.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday A "MARY," MERRY CHRISTMAS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/21/2014

"Mary said to the angel, 'How can this be...?' " -Luke 1:34

To have a true Christmas, to meet Christ at Mass in a new, glorious
way during the Christmas season, we must have a "Mary" Christmas and
love Jesus as Mary does. To have a "Mary" Christmas, we should:

.not fear (Lk 1:30),
.be filled with God's grace (Lk 1:30),
.have "the Holy Spirit...come upon" us (Lk 1:35),
.believe that "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37),
.rejoice in being the Lord's servants, that is, the slaves of the Lord (Lk 1:38),
."let it be done" to us according to God's Word (Lk 1:38),
.trust "that the Lord's words" to us will "be fulfilled" (Lk 1:45),
.proclaim "the greatness of the Lord" and find "joy in God" our Savior (Lk 1:46-47),
."be pierced with a sword" of sorrow (Lk 2:35),
."do whatever [Jesus] tells" us and tell others to do the same (Jn 2:5),
.be at the foot of Jesus' cross (Jn 19:25), and
.together devote ourselves to constant prayer for a new Pentecost (Acts 1:14).

A "Mary" Christmas is a Christmas of faith, joy, self-sacrifice,
obedience, evangelistic zeal, redemptive suffering, praise-filled
worship, and constant prayer in the Holy Spirit.

"Mary" Christmas!

Prayer: Prayer: Jesus, may You get what You want for Christmas.

Promise: "The favors of the Lord I will sing forever; through all
generations my mouth shall proclaim Your faithfulness." -Ps 89:2

Praise: "O Radiant Dawn, Splendor of eternal light, Sun of Justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death."

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE ELDERLY

THROW AWAY CULTURE

Children are thrown away, young people are thrown away, because they have
no work, and the elderly are thrown away with the pretence of maintaining
a "balanced" economy, which has at its center not the human person but
money. We are all called to oppose this poisonous, throw away culture!

BUILD A BETTER SOCIETY

We Christians, together with all people of good will, are called to
patiently build a more diverse, more welcoming, more humane, more
inclusive society that does not need to discard those who are weak in
body and mind. On the contrary we need a society which measures its
success on how the weak are cared for.

"NO FUTURE"

As Christians and as citizens, we are called to envision, with
imagination and wisdom, ways of facing this challenge. A people who does
not take care of grandparents, who does not treat them well has no future!

A "MARY," MERRY CHRISTMAS - One Bread, One Body, 12/21/2014

Sunday, December 21, 2014, Fourth Sunday of Advent

A "MARY," MERRY CHRISTMAS

"Mary said to the angel, 'How can this be...?' " -Luke 1:34

To have a true Christmas, to meet Christ at Mass in a new, glorious way during the Christmas season, we must have a "Mary" Christmas and love Jesus as Mary does. To have a "Mary" Christmas, we should:
* not fear (Lk 1:30),
* be filled with God's grace (Lk 1:30),
* have "the Holy Spirit...come upon" us (Lk 1:35),
* believe that "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37),
* rejoice in being the Lord's servants, that is, the slaves of the Lord (Lk 1:38),
* "let it be done" to us according to God's Word (Lk 1:38),
* trust "that the Lord's words" to us will "be fulfilled" (Lk 1:45),
* proclaim "the greatness of the Lord" and find "joy in God" our Savior (Lk 1:46-47),
* "be pierced with a sword" of sorrow (Lk 2:35),
* "do whatever [Jesus] tells" us and tell others to do the same (Jn 2:5),
* be at the foot of Jesus' cross (Jn 19:25), and
* together devote ourselves to constant prayer for a new Pentecost (Acts 1:14).

A "Mary" Christmas is a Christmas of faith, joy, self-sacrifice, obedience, evangelistic zeal, redemptive suffering, praise-filled worship, and constant prayer in the Holy Spirit.
"Mary" Christmas!

Prayer: Prayer: Jesus, may You get what You want for Christmas.

Promise: "The favors of the Lord I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim Your faithfulness." -Ps 89:2

Praise: "O Radiant Dawn, Splendor of eternal light, Sun of Justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death."

THE SCHOOL OF MARY - One Bread, One Body, 12/20/2014

THE SCHOOL OF MARY

"The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you." -Luke 1:35

Mary is a model disciple. She is worthy of being imitated.
* Mary did God's will, no matter what it entailed as the servant of the Lord.
* She welcomed and received the Holy Spirit. Then she ministered with the Spirit's power and the gifts during her visit to Zechariah and Elizabeth.
* She gave her body to the Lord. So many these days will not let the Lord have their body. Often in today's me-first culture, we hear: "It's my body, and my choice of what I do with it."
* Mary regarded her body as a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19-20), and lived a holy lifestyle. In essence, she said to the Lord: "This is my body, to be given up for You."
* She was pure and holy. Her Child was "holy" (Lk 1:35). We disciples of Jesus are to likewise be pure (1 Jn 3:3) and holy (1 Pt 1:16).

As Christmas approaches, enroll in Mary's school of discipleship. Learn a lesson from the model disciple.

Prayer: Father, may I follow You as did Mary.

Promise: "The Lord Himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with Child, and bear a Son, and shall name Him Immanuel." -Is 7:14

Praise: "O Key of David, O royal Power of Israel controlling at Your will the gate of heaven: come, break down the prison walls of death for those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death; and lead Your captive people into freedom."

ZECHARIAH'S "ADVENT" - One Bread, One Body, 12/19/2014

Friday, December 19, 2014

Judges 13:2-7, 24-25, Psalm 71:3-6, 16-17, Luke 1:5-25

ZECHARIAH'S "ADVENT"

"I was sent to...bring you this good news." -Luke 1:19

"Each man speaks from his heart's abundance" (Lk 6:45). Zechariah's words to the angel give evidence that his heart did not trust God. He possibly felt that God turned a "deaf ear" to his decades-long prayers for a child. Thus, when the angel Gabriel announced that God had heard his prayers (Lk 1:13), the doubt and lack of trust that filled his heart flowed naturally out of his mouth. For his lack of trust in God's messenger, Zechariah was struck mute (Lk 1:20, 22) and deaf (Lk 1:62). He thought God was deaf to his prayers; now he learned that he was the deaf one.
Zechariah couldn't hear or speak, so he had to rely on his sight. What he saw was the undeniable answer to his prayers growing daily in Elizabeth's womb. This priest, who surely had meditated on the Scriptures his entire life, pondered the goodness of God and the truth of the words spoken to him by the angel Gabriel. His reflection led him to realize that his pre-born son would indeed "go before the Lord to prepare" His way (see Lk 1:17, 76).
Zechariah could have been bitter at being deprived of speech and hearing, but he prepared well during his nine-month "Advent" wait. When he completed his obedience to the angel's prophecy by naming his son John (Lk 1:13, 63), his mouth and ears were opened. His first words to speak after more than nine months were spoken to bless God (Lk 1:64). Zechariah's subsequent prophecy (Lk 1:67-79) gave evidence as to how he spent his "Advent" preparing his heart. Be like Zechariah. Use the rest of Advent to ponder the goodness of God and prepare for Christ's coming at Christmas.

Prayer: "Change my heart, O God. May I be like You."

Promise: "Joy and gladness will be yours." -Lk 1:14

Praise: "O Flower of Jesse's stem, You have been raised up as a Sign for all peoples; kings stand silent in Your presence; the nations bow down in worship before You. Come, let nothing keep You from coming to our aid."

(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.)

ACCEPT FOR CHRISTMAS - One Bread, One Body, 12/18/2014

ACCEPT FOR CHRISTMAS

"Joseph her husband, an upright man unwilling to expose her to the law, decided to divorce her quietly." -Matthew 1:19

Joseph planned to divorce Mary and, therefore, Jesus. This Christmas, we also may be tempted to divorce Jesus indirectly, and thereby miss out on Christmas. Throughout history, there have been more innkeepers and Herods at Christmas than wise men and shepherds. Even now, few are at the side of Jesus in the manger. Most of the world continues to ignore the Christ of Christmas.
Joseph would have rejected Jesus if he had not made a super act of faith and accepted Mary as his wife under overwhelming circumstances. Often for us, the key to Christmas is to have the faith, like Joseph, to accept a spouse, parent, child, brother, or sister in the Lord under difficult circumstances. The Lord commands us: "Accept one another, then, as Christ accepted you, for the glory of God" (Rm 15:7).
To meet Jesus this Christmas, accept:
* those you don't understand,
* those who don't accept you,
* family members who continue to hurt you,
* and forgive everyone who has ever hurt you,
* and correct in love some of those who have hurt you, and
* everyone where they are and lead them to where God wants them to be.

To meet Christ this Christmas, be like Christ Who has always kept His promise: "No one who comes will I ever reject" (Jn 6:37).

Prayer: Father, thank You for accepting and convicting me by the Spirit (Jn 16:8).

Promise: "In His days Judah shall be saved, Israel shall dwell in security." -Jer 23:6

Praise: "O sacred Lord of ancient Israel, Who showed Yourself to Moses in the burning bush, Who gave him the holy law on Sinai mountain: come, stretch out Your mighty hand to set us free."

I LOVE JESUS' GENES - One Bread, One Body, 12/17/2014

I LOVE JESUS' GENES

"A family record of Jesus Christ…" -Matthew 1:1

I've often heard parishioners express discontent about having to listen to today's Gospel litany of name after name in the genealogy of Jesus. Church attendees often seem bored with the genealogy.
Genealogy, however, is riding a wave of popularity at present. One of the primary uses of the Internet is genealogical research. I know three individuals who "have carefully traced" (Lk 1:3) their family histories back hundreds of years. To these individuals, genealogies are exciting, not boring. They spent countless hours researching their beloved family lineage. They rejoice when they find another entry in their family tree. Each member of the family adds to their own sense of identity and history. Each family member is precious to them and is important to the understanding of the whole family, because there is a personal connection involved. It's part of who they are.
Do we love Jesus' family more than genealogy enthusiasts love theirs? Do we even realize that we are members of Jesus' family? (Mk 3:35) Is your personal connection with Jesus such that you delight in any detail about His life, including details about His family? Do you love those Jesus loves? (1 Jn 4:20-21)
You have been baptized into Jesus' family (Rm 6:3). Rejoice in your family tree! Love Jesus more personally this Advent than ever before.

Prayer: Father, thank You for making me Your child and making me a sharer in Your divine nature (2 Pt 1:4).

Promise: "Justice shall flower in His days, and profound peace, till the moon be no more." -Ps 72:7

Praise: "O Wisdom, O holy Word of God, You govern all creation with Your strong yet tender care. Come and show Your people the way to salvation."

INTO THE DUMPSTER

"The lowly will hear me and be glad." -Psalm 34:3

Throughout much of our lives, many of us develop the illusion that we are naturally good-hearted, loving, and kind people. We pretend that about all we want out of life is to help people. Although various circumstances in our lives seem to indicate a self-centered, egotistical attitude in us, we ignore these details. Usually somewhere around middle age, we may realize by God's grace that we have spent our whole lives thinking about ourselves and seeking our own pleasure, even at others' expense. We now begin to realize we are egomaniacs, like most other people. Now we have the opportunity of a lifetime - the opportunity to repent.
This Advent, the Lord wants to fulfill in your life the prophecy of Zephaniah: "Then will I remove from your midst the proud braggarts, and you shall no longer exalt yourself on My holy mountain. But I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and lowly" (Zep 3:11-12). The Lord wants to clean house - your house, your heart. It may seem that He is removing everything from your heart, but He will leave behind within you a remnant "humble and lowly," which does no wrong and speaks no lies (Zep 3:12-13).
Let the Lord clean your house before Christmas. Let Him clean it as it's never been cleaned. Let Him throw out tons of self-deception, pride, and selfishness. Pray: "A clean heart create for me, O God" (Ps 51:12).

Prayer: Father, may I not spend what remains of my earthly life on human desires, but on doing Your will (1 Pt 4:2).

Promise: "When John came preaching a way of holiness, you put no faith in him." -Mt 21:32

Praise: David, who was physically blind, came to "see" and accept Jesus as his Savior in the last minutes of his life.

QUESTION BOX

"I too will ask a question." -Matthew 21:24

Sometimes we pray and talk to God, even questioning Him, but He doesn't seem to answer. We wonder if He's even listening. One reason for this is mentioned in today's Gospel reading. The chief priests and elders asked Jesus two questions (Mt 21:23). Jesus replied that He would not answer their questions until they answered His (Mt 21:24). "Their answer to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' He said in turn, 'Then neither will I tell you on what authority I do the things I do' " (Mt 21:27).
Jesus loves to ask questions such as: "Who do you say that I am?" (Mt 16:15) "Do you love Me?" (Jn 21:17) "Where are you?" (Gn 3:9) "Do you want to leave Me too?" (Jn 6:67) "Do you really believe?" (Jn 16:31) "What are you looking for?" (Jn 1:38) "Are you confident I can do this?" (Mt 9:28) Will you repent and forgive? Do you love Me with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength? (see Mt 22:37) The Lord has many other questions for us.
Jesus is asking you a question. Don't say: "I don't know" (see Mt 21:27). Answer Him in love.

Prayer: Father, may Jesus get His questions answered this Advent.

Promise: "A Star shall advance from Jacob, and a Staff shall rise from Israel." -Nm 24:17

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday of Advent

December 14th Third Sunday of Advent

Jesus as we get closer to the greatest moment in all of history,
Your birth.

Let us stop all the Christmas preparation, and come and just sit
with You in adoration.

Let us just sit before the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings and let
us just be in awe of the fact, that You are really present in the
Most Blessed Eucharist.

You love us so much that You want us to eat the Bread of Life, and
slowly become truly Christ to others.

Let us see in the breaking of the Bread, the love, the help and the
healing that You always give us.

Let us become new creations in, to and through You.

Amen and Amen.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "REJOICE SUNDAY"
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/14/2014

"I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul."
-Isaiah 61:10

"Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice!" (Phil 4:4) Today
is "Gaudete Sunday," that is, "Rejoice Sunday." We are rejoicing because
soon and very soon Christ will come in glory this Christmas.

We are able to "rejoice always" (1 Thes 5:16) despite the many sorrowful
circumstances of our lives. This is because we are not only in sorrow,
pain, trouble, and suffering but also "in the Lord." Being "in the Lord"
takes precedence over everything else. With Mary, our spirits find "joy
in God" our Savior (Lk 1:47). "With joy" we "draw water at the fountain
of salvation" (Is 12:3). In Christ, we "rejoice with inexpressible joy
touched with glory because [we] are achieving faith's goal, [our]
salvation" (1 Pt 1:8-9). In the Lord, we are "crowned with everlasting
joy" (Is 35:10).

"All this I tell you that My joy may be yours and your joy may be
complete" (Jn 15:11). "Indeed, our purpose in writing you this is that
our joy may be complete" (1 Jn 1:4). "Rejoice in the Lord always! I say
it again. Rejoice!" (Phil 4:4)

Prayer: Holy Spirit of Christmas, produce in me Your fruit of joy
(Gal 5:22). Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us to receive the Holy
Spirit of Christmas.

Promise: "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has
anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal
the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to
the prisoners." -Is 61:1

Praise: "My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds
joy in God my Savior, for He has looked upon His servant in her
lowliness; all ages to come shall call me blessed" (Lk 1:46-48).

Lord Jesus thank You for the manual labour job I got to do today.
Thank You for humbling me through these jobs. Lord move me onto a
permant job inline with my career if it be for Your glory. Lord You
promised to baptize us in the Holy Spirit (Mk 1:8), the Paraclete,
the Comforter. May the divine Comforter free us from generations of
slavery, sin, guilt, and punishment (Is 40:2). Grant that we
personally realise the promise that "where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom" (2 Cor 3:17). In the comfort of the Spirit, may we
truly enter into the freedom of the Lord. May we displace the culture
of poverty with a civilization of supernatural abundance, love and
life. Come, Holy Spirit of Christmas and comfort! Mary intercess for
our family and in Jesus' name we pray amen.
(Thomas, South Africa, 12/13/2014 11:06:11 AM)

For my dad to repent of the sin of pride and his anger toward his son,
Steve. May dad make a good confession this Advent and be healed
spiritually.

Please pray for my daughter who will be writing her exams and also that
she may have an experience of our Lord Jesus. - Paul
(Paul, Chennai, TN, India, 12/13/2014 1:36:37 AM)

Please pray that my unreal thoughts in my mind would please leave me and
I become healed victorious in ending this untruth/negativity.

Bible Telephone Line

New Technology for Bible Telephone Line Ministry
Local Numbers Double Practically Overnight!

The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 19 years. Begun by Fr. Al
in 1991, it now continues with three teachers trained by him and by Presentation
Ministries. In cities where local numbers have been established, the BTL provides
callers with a short teaching on the readings for the daily Mass. It is available 24
hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer request which
will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE ELDERLY

"SO GOOD"

It is so good to go visit an elderly person! Look at our children:
sometimes we see them listless and sad; they go visit an elderly person
and become joyful!

"A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER"

Homes for the elderly should be the "lungs" of humanity in a town,
a neighborhood or a parish. They should be the "sanctuaries" of humanity
where one who is old and weak is cared for and protected like a big
brother or sister.

FACING REALITY

However, the reality is that elderly people are being abandoned: the
elderly are so often discarded with an attitude of abandonment, which is
actually real and hidden euthanasia! It is the result of a throw away
culture which is so harmful to our world.
