CELEBRATE LIFE
"These, then, are the festivals of the Lord which you shall celebrate at their proper time with a sacred assembly." -Leviticus 23:4
The Lord has created us to celebrate His love. In the midst of our life of celebration, the Lord calls us to come together repeatedly for special seasons of celebration. The Church year begins with the celebration of the Advent and Christmas seasons. In the new covenant, we also celebrate the Day of Atonement (see Lv 23:27) on Good Friday, the day Jesus atoned for all the sins which have been or will be committed. Good Friday is the center of the Triduum, the three most important days of the liturgical year. The Triduum is preceded by the celebration of Lent and followed by our greatest celebration, the Easter season, which St. Athanasius called the "fifty-day Sunday." The Easter season is seven weeks concluding with the Feast of Weeks, that is, Pentecost (see Lv 23:15ff).
We should also be celebrating the holy days and the feasts of Mary and the other saints. We should celebrate our baptismal anniversaries even more than we celebrate our birthdays. Most especially, we should celebrate each Sunday "as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church" (Catechism, 2177).
The Lord calls us to be caught up in "the liturgical worship of the Church" (Vatican II, Laity, 11). We have been created to celebrate together God's love forever. Celebrate!
Prayer: Father, deepen my faith and love so that they will produce joy and celebration.
Promise: "Take up a melody, and sound the timbrel, the pleasant harp and the lyre. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our solemn feast; for it is a statute in Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob." -Ps 81:3-5
Praise: St. Ignatius of Loyola wanted to fight for the freedom of the Holy Land, but instead was called to fight for holiness in the heart of the Church of Rome.

CREATED TO WORSHIP HIM FOREVER
"On the first day of the first month of the second year the Dwelling was erected. It was Moses who erected the Dwelling." -Exodus 40:17-18
The grand finale of the book of Exodus is the completion of the Dwelling, the place on earth where God was most powerfully and intimately present. The plagues led to the Exodus, leading to the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. This was followed by Moses' reception of the divine Law on Mt. Sinai. This finally culminated in the construction of the Dwelling.
The goal of life is to enter into God's presence most deeply and to worship Him forever in heaven. The plagues, miracles, and laws of our lives are not random. They are ordered to bringing us into the holy of holies of God's presence to worship Him. We exist "to praise His glory" (Eph 1:12).
Have you focused your life on worshipping God? Do you do "good deeds" and share what you have (Heb 13:16) so as to "continually offer God a sacrifice of praise"? (Heb 13:15) Have you offered "your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God, your spiritual Worship"? (Rm 12:1) You are alive today to worship the Lord. Worship is the goal of your life and the essence of eternity at God's throne in heaven. Worship Him "in Spirit and truth" (Jn 4:23).
Prayer: Father, more and more make the desire of my heart to worship You.
Promise: "Angels will go out and separate the wicked from the just and hurl the wicked into the fiery furnace." -Mt 13:49-50
Praise: St. Peter Chrysologus proclaimed God's Word against paganism, growing abuses, and unholiness.

IN YOUR FACE
"The skin of [Moses'] face had become radiant while he conversed with the Lord." -Exodus 34:29
In the Old Covenant, the unclean and unholy had the ability to contaminate that which was holy. For instance, if a person with leprosy touched a person without it, the latter person became unclean, even if they did not contract leprosy. In other words, unholiness was contagious rather than holiness.
Jesus reversed this situation. Jesus touched lepers and cleansed them (Mk 1:41). Because of Jesus, holiness overpowered unholiness. Now holiness is contagious instead of unholiness. This reversal is why Jesus could say that the unholy weeds are now to coexist with the holy wheat (Mt 13:30). His plan is that the holiness of the wheat should overpower the unholiness of the weeds, bringing conversion and creating a culture of holiness and life.
Why then is our western culture living in B.C. instead of A.D.? Why does evil seemingly proliferate unchecked? Why are millions of babies annually killed in surgical and chemical abortions? Why is prayer banned in schools? Why does the media become increasingly anti-Christian instead of pro-holiness?
To answer these questions, start by looking in the mirror. Does your face radiate God's love? (Ex 34:29) Can you look yourself in the face without needing sunglasses? If not, "fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1). Devour His Word constantly and let it become your joy (Jer 15:16). Gaze on Jesus often in eucharistic adoration and transform your face (see 2 Cor 3:18). Receive His eucharistic body and blood more often, even daily. Then let your radiant face infect the world with holiness (Mt 5:16).
Prayer: Father, may I be a carrier of holiness. May an epidemic outbreak of holiness occur due to Your joy reflected in my face.
Promise: "The reign of God is like a buried treasure." -Mt 13:44
Praise: "Jesus loved Martha...very much" (Jn 11:5).

THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR - One Bread, One Body, 7/28/2015

THE GREAT COMMUNICATOR
"So Moses stayed there with the Lord for forty days and forty nights." -Exodus 34:28
Moses would meet God at a certain tent, and "the column of cloud would come down and stand at its entrance while the Lord spoke with Moses...the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one man speaks to another" (Ex 33:9, 11).
Many Christians today would like to trade places with Moses because he had such direct communication with the Lord. But Moses would have liked to trade places with us because in the new covenant we have much greater opportunities for communication with the Lord. "The least born into the Kingdom of God is greater than" Moses and all the leaders in the old covenant (Mt 11:11). "Indeed, when you compare that limited glory" (before Christ) "with this surpassing glory" (after Christ), "the former should be declared no glory at all" (2 Cor 3:10). "In times past, God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways to our fathers through the prophets; in this, the final age, He has spoken to us through His Son" (Heb 1:1-2).
God has become man, the Spirit inhabits us as His temple, the Triune God dwells within us, and we even receive the Body and Blood of Jesus. There's no excuse for not being closer than close with the Father through the Son and in the Spirit. Let's repent, give the Lord prime-time each day, and make our relationship with Him our highest priority.
Prayer: Father, I want to communicate with You every second of my life.
Promise: "Then the saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom." -Mt 13:43
Praise: The brakes on Janice's car gave out while she was driving home from doing God's work for a Catholic ministry. Jesus protected her by allowing this to happen within a block of her home, after she had exited the busy streets.

TWICE AS FAST
"Moses said to the people, 'You have committed a grave sin. I will go up to the Lord.' " -Exodus 32:30
Moses "stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights without eating or drinking, till the Lord gave" him the Ten Commandments (Dt 9:9-10). When Moses came down the mountain, he saw the people adoring the golden calf. "With that, Moses' wrath flared up, so that he threw the tablets down and broke them on the base of the mountain" (Ex 32:19). Then Moses went up the mountain again. "So Moses stayed there with the Lord for forty days and forty nights, without eating any food or drinking any water, and he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments" (Ex 34:28).
A forty-day fast with no food and no water is humanly impossible. Back-to-back forty-day fasts are unthinkable. Moses, however, went eighty days without eating or drinking. This shows not only the special graces the Lord gave Moses to fast but also Moses' love for the Lord and His people. Who loves enough to fast for the salvation of others? Who cares enough to fast for several days? Who loves enough to fast for people who have fallen into idolatry and broken your heart?
Pope John Paul II taught: "Jesus Himself has shown us by His own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil (cf Mt 4:1-11). As He taught His disciples, some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (cf Mk 9:29). Let us therefore discover anew the humility and courage to pray and fast" (The Gospel of Life, 100).
Prayer: Father, teach me to pray and fast.
Promise: "I will open My mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden since the creation of the world." -Mt 13:35
Praise: Reading the papal encyclicals helps build Martin's faith as he sees how the Gospel is applied to the modern world.

PM eNewsletter 17th Sunday in ordinary time
July 26th Seventeenth Sunday in ordinary time
This week, Jesus, Your church celebrates the feast of St. Martha,
who had a great desire to serve You, because of her love for You.
She also had the gift of faith to know that You were the Son of God,
the Messiah.
Martha believed in the resurrection of the dead, and knew that the
Father heard all of Your prayers.
So You showed her Your love by raising her brother from the dead.
Lord, give us the faith to truly know of the resurrection and the
grace to live lives in anticipation of coming home to You at Your call.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday THE MIRACLE OF MULTIPLYING MIRACLES
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/26/2015
"The people saw the sign He had performed." -John 6:14
Jesus used the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish
to open the blinded eyes of His apostles. He said: "Are your minds
completely blinded? Have you eyes but no sight? Ears but no hearing?
Do you remember when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand,
how many baskets of fragments you gathered up?" (Mk 8:17-19)
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Heb 13:8).
Therefore, Jesus may well be using today's Gospel reading to open our
eyes and ears spiritually. Read today's readings from the perspective
of the millions of refugees in the world. Most of us have never seen
a person starve to death, but hundreds of millions of the poor have
seen even their own children starve to death. To hear about a man who
multiplies food is the greatest of good news to millions throughout
the world.
Even if we don't need the multiplication of food in our lives, we
still desperately need the multiplication of time, energy, ministry,
and strength. We feel terribly inadequate, and we are, but the Lord
will multiply our little lives, if we give our all and ask in faith
for a multiplication.
When you come to Mass today, ask for the miracle of multiplication
to lead to the miracle of freedom from spiritual blindness. This in
turn will open our eyes to further miracles - to a multiplication of
miracles.
Prayer: Father, I give You my all so that I may see.
Promise: "There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there is but
one hope given all of you by your call." -Eph 4:4
Praise: Praise Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25),

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
HOLY YEAR OF MERCY
"ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL"
It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her
message that she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her
gestures must transmit mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people
and inspire them ... to find the road that leads to the Father.
THE FATHER'S MERCY
Merciful like the Father ... is the "motto" of this Holy Year. In mercy,
we find proof of how God loves us... Day after day, touched by His
compassion, we also can become compassionate towards others.
"BURNING DESIRE"
It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian people
may reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. It will be a
way to reawaken our conscience, too often grown dull in the face of
poverty.

THE MIRACLE OF MULTIPLYING MIRACLES
"The people saw the sign He had performed." -John 6:14
Jesus used the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish to open the blinded eyes of His apostles. He said: "Are your minds completely blinded? Have you eyes but no sight? Ears but no hearing? Do you remember when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of fragments you gathered up?" (Mk 8:17-19)
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Heb 13:8). Therefore, Jesus may well be using today's Gospel reading to open our eyes and ears spiritually. Read today's readings from the perspective of the millions of refugees in the world. Most of us have never seen a person starve to death, but hundreds of millions of the poor have seen even their own children starve to death. To hear about a man who multiplies food is the greatest of good news to millions throughout the world.
Even if we don't need the multiplication of food in our lives, we still desperately need the multiplication of time, energy, ministry, and strength. We feel terribly inadequate, and we are, but the Lord will multiply our little lives, if we give our all and ask in faith for a multiplication.
When you come to Mass today, ask for the miracle of multiplication to lead to the miracle of freedom from spiritual blindness. This in turn will open our eyes to further miracles - to a multiplication of miracles.
Prayer: Father, I give You my all so that I may see.
Promise: "There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there is but one hope given all of you by your call." -Eph 4:4
Praise: Praise Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), Whose name is exalted above the heavens!

"RELIGIOUS SELFISHNESS" - One Bread, One Body, 7/25/2015
Saturday, July 25, 2015, St. James
2 Corinthians 4:7-15, Psalm 126:1-6, Matthew 20:20-28

"RELIGIOUS SELFISHNESS"
"The mother of Zebedee's sons came up to Him accompanied by her sons, to do Him homage and ask of Him a favor." -Matthew 20:20
The mother of James and John was an expert in "religious selfishness." Many of us are also experts in this type of selfishness. When we pray, God answers with the question: "What is it you want?" (Mt 20:21) God, Who reads our hearts, knows that we sometimes pray not to get His will but our will, not to please Him as much as to please ourselves. Even when we pray for someone else, we're still thinking: "What's in it for me?" When we pray, we ask God to make promises to us rather than making promises of our love to Him (Mt 20:21). The Lord's attitude toward our attitude of selfishness is: "You do not know what you are asking" (Mt 20:22). We don't know the nature of prayer, love, and the Christian life.
In His mercy, Jesus tries to break the spell of self by leading us to serve others and lay down our lives for them (Mt 20:26-28). Only the love of the cross is stronger than selfishness. Only crucified love will free us from the prison of self (see 2 Cor 5:15).
Jesus took the mother of James and John to the cross when her son James was beheaded (Acts 12:2). There she found the true meaning of prayer, love, and life. Jesus is also calling us to crucify our selfishness at His cross. Make the way of the cross.
Prayer: Father, may I pray in the shadow of the cross.
Promise: "Continually we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, so that in our bodies the life of Jesus may also be revealed." -2 Cor 4:10
Praise: St. James was such a powerful evangelist that his enemies were "pleased" to see him beheaded (Acts 12:3).

WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? - One Bread, One Body, 7/24/2015
Friday, July 24, 2015, St. Sharbel Makhluf
Exodus 20:1-17, Psalm 19:8-11, Matthew 13:18-23
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/072415.cfm
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?
"Mark well, then, the parable of the sower. The seed along the path is the man who hears the message about God's reign without understanding it. The evil one approaches him to steal away what was sown in his mind." -Matthew 13:18-19
The fact that you're reading this book means you are probably not the footpath. You have received the seed of God's Word. If you have read this book and especially the daily Scripture readings regularly for an extended time, you are probably not the rocky ground (see Mt 13:20). You are in the minority of people in our society who have the potential to bear fruit.
Therefore, if you bear thorns rather than fruit (see Mt 13:22), it will be a great loss to the world. If you don't bear fruit, who will? "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him" (Lk 12:48). In a world of footpaths and rocky ground, the Church desperately needs you to bear fruit to the maximum.
Therefore, you must be very careful to watch and pray so that "worldly anxiety and the lure of money" do not choke off your rare, precious, and greatly needed fruit (Mt 13:22). Even if you are not rich, be careful not to desire to be rich, for "those who want to be rich are falling into temptation and a trap. They are letting themselves be captured by foolish and harmful desires which drag men down to ruin and destruction. The love of money is the root of all evil. Some men in their passion for it have strayed from the faith, and have come to grief amid great pain" (1 Tm 6:9-10). Don't give up your lifesaving potential to bear fruit for a comfortable, pleasurable, barren lifestyle, for Jesus commands us to live in Him and to bear fruit abundantly (Jn 15:5).
Prayer: Father, make me fruitful even in the midst of a barren desert.
Promise: "Honor your father and mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you." -Ex 20:12
Praise: St. Sharbel lived as a hermit for the last forty-five years of his life. His holiness was such that many sought his guidance in the spiritual life.

GOD'S BACKING YOU UP - One Bread, One Body, 7/23/2015
Thursday, July 23, 2015, St. Bridget of Sweden
Exodus 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20, Daniel 3:52-56, Matthew 13:10-17

GOD'S BACKING YOU UP
"I am coming to you in a dense cloud, so that when the people hear Me speaking with you, they may always have faith in you also." -Exodus 19:9
God manifested Himself in a mighty way to the Israelites at Mount Sinai (Ex 19:16ff), speaking to them both directly and through Moses, and giving them the Ten Commandments. Yet within a short time, they abandoned Him to worship a golden calf (Ex 32:1ff).
Jesus spoke to the Israelite people of the kingdom of God in parables (Mt 13:10), discourses (Mt 5:1ff), and in signs and wonders. Though Jesus gave them God's Word, they soon abandoned and crucified Him.
Jesus has sent us out to spread the message of His kingdom. The bad news is: if people won't listen to the Father, the Son, and Moses, why will they listen to us? The good news is that God wants them to listen to us, and He backs us up. God backed up Moses by appearing publicly in power in the dense cloud so they might "have faith in" Moses (Ex 19:9). He continues to back up with power all who proclaim His Word (Mk 16:15, 17).
Therefore, don't focus on the reception you get when you spread God's Word. Focus instead on the certain knowledge that God is with you, backing you up. "Do not be afraid. Go on speaking and do not be silenced, for" God is "with you" (Acts 18:9-10).
Prayer: "The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?" (Heb 13:6) Lord, I will spread Your Word in faith.
Promise: "Blest are your eyes because they see and blest are your ears because they hear." -Mt 13:16
Praise: St. Bridget served God as wife, mother, foundress, author, mystic, and saint.

LOVE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY - One Bread, One Body, 7/22/2015
Wednesday, July 22, 2015, St. Mary Magdalene
Song of Songs 3:1-4 or, 2 Corinthians 5:14-17, Psalm 63:2-6, 8-9, John 20:1-2, 11-18

LOVE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY
"I will seek Him Whom my heart loves." -Song of Songs 3:2
Love can never be completely satisfied or complacent. Love by its very nature must be expressed, grow, and always find greater ways to bless the beloved. "Love following upon love" (Jn 1:16) always seeks the good of the other. Love, in a sense, is restless because love cannot rest until all is well with the beloved.
Love ignores personal safety and comfort. It always finds a way to increase the welfare of the beloved. Love seeks the beloved day and night (Sg 3:1-2). Love always seeks a way to reach the beloved, and if we seek to love, we will find a way (Mt 7:8).
This is the way Mary Magdalene loved Jesus. "The love of Christ" impelled her (2 Cor 5:14) to seek out Jesus. She had to be with Him, whether He was dying the gruesome death of an accused criminal (Jn 19:25) or risen in glorious splendor (Jn 20:16-17). This is the way Jesus loves us. We may be spiritually dead (Rv 3:1; 1 Jn 3:14), but Jesus loves us so much that He never stops seeking us.
"Love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8). If we love Jesus as much as did Mary Magdalene, we will find Him (Jer 29:13; Mt 7:8), and He will dwell in us and we in Him (1 Jn 4:16). Find the "Way" (Jn 14:6). Seek to love Jesus as did Mary Magdalene.
Prayer: Jesus, You are Love (1 Jn 4:8). I love You so much. May our mutual love start a new fire of faith and love burning on the earth (Lk 12:49).
Promise: "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new!" -2 Cor 5:17
Praise: St. Mary Magdalene so loved Jesus that she remained with Him at Calvary when almost everyone else abandoned Him.

BAPTISM AS LIFE
"The Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea, with the water like a wall to their right and to their left. Thus the Lord saved Israel on that day." -Exodus 14:29-30
The Church requires that today's first reading be read at Easter Vigil, the most important liturgical service of the year. The Church emphasizes this reading from Exodus because in an exceptional way it prefigures Baptism, and Baptism is the greatest event in our lives. Only at Baptism do we receive a new nature and become adopted sons and daughters of God. At Baptism, we become sharers in the divine nature (2 Pt 1:4) and heirs of God's kingdom (Rm 8:17). We become holy, royal, priestly.
"Are you not aware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?" (Rm 6:3) Pope John Paul II has taught: "It is no exaggeration to say that the entire existence of the lay faithful has as its purpose to lead a person to a knowledge of the radical newness of the Christian life that comes from Baptism" (The Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People, 10). Pope John Paul II has also taught that every Christian needs "to grasp and live the immense, extraordinary richness and responsibility received at Baptism" (Lay Members, 61).
Life is the discovery of the effects of Baptism. At each of our funeral Masses, the priest will sprinkle our "earthly remains" with the holy water which recalls our Baptism. Unless we are cremated, he will cover our casket with the pall which recalls our baptismal garment. In life and in death, know and live your Baptism in its "immense, extraordinary richness and responsibility."
Prayer: Father, may I make as many disciples of Jesus as possible and help them to live their Baptism.
Promise: "Whoever does the will of My heavenly Father is brother and sister and mother to Me." -Mt 12:50
Praise: St. Lawrence of Brindisi led the Christian army to victory carrying high a crucifix.

STOP SIGN
"We want to see You work some signs." -Matthew 12:38
To those who wanted to see Him work a magic trick, Jesus replied: "An evil and unfaithful age is eager for a sign! No sign will be given it but that of the prophet Jonah. Just as Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man spend three days and three nights in the bowels of the earth" (Mt 12:39-40). In other words, in answer to their request for a sign, Jesus gave them the sign of the cross.
The sign of the cross is like a stop sign. When we are driving and we see a stop sign, we automatically come to a stop and look to see what is happening. When we see a crucifix, we must react the same way. We should immediately stop. We look on the crucified Jesus, keeping "our eyes fixed on Jesus" (Heb 12:2). This should stop us in our tracks. As mighty men and women of old have reacted (Is 52:14-15), we stand speechless before the sight of the Son of God hanging in agony. We listen to Jesus, as He says: "Stop, and know that I am God" (see Ps 46:11).
Stop sinning, stop striving, stop running. "You have only to keep still" (Ex 14:14). Stop, in the name of Love!
Prayer: "I will sing to the Lord, for He is gloriously triumphant...He is my God, I praise Him" (Ex 15:1, 2).
Promise: "Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the Lord will win for you today." -Ex 14:13
Praise: St. Apollinarius, tradition says, was ordained by St. Peter and noted for his gift of healing.

PM eNewsletter 16th Sunday in ordinary time
July 19th Sixteenth Sunday in ordinary time
This week, oh Christ, Your church celebrates a women who, because
of Your forgiving her, became a most devote follower of Yours,
Mary Magdalene.
Because her love was so strong for You, she had the strength and
courage to stand at the foot of the cross during Your crucifixion.
She also was one of the first to see You after Your glorious resurrection.
Give us, oh Christ, the grace to truly see You in the breaking of
the bread, and so be filled with Your presence and love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday HEARTBREAK HOTEL
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=7/19/2015
"Jesus saw a vast crowd. He had compassion on them." -Mark 6:34, our transl.
Some people ruined Jesus' vacation (see Mk 6:31). They wouldn't even let Him
and His apostles rest a little and eat (Mk 6:31). If a crowd of people made
life that difficult for us, we might resent it or be upset. However, Jesus
felt compassion for the crowd and "began to teach them at great length" (Mk 6:34).
Do you have the heart of Jesus for people who demand a lot from you,
inconvenience you, or even hurt you? Are you willing to lay down your life to
feed the sheep? (see Jn 21:17) Jesus is looking for people after His own heart
(Acts 13:22), people with a shepherd's heart (see Jer 3:15).
Jesus gave us a new heart (Ez 36:26) when we were baptized into Him (see Rm 6:3).
However, for that heart to beat with Christ's love even for the most unlovable,
we must daily surrender every detail of our lives to Him. Jesus invites us: "Take
My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart"
(Mt 11:29). Are you willing to learn to love with the heart of Jesus? Are you
willing to have your heart broken open for love?
Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.
Promise: "I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock from all the lands to which
I have driven them and bring them back to their meadow; there they shall increase
and multiply." -Jer 23:3
Praise: Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He has conquered sin and death. Alleluia!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2015-05.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
HOLY YEAR OF MERCY
"ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL"
It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her message that
she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her gestures must transmit
mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and inspire them ... to find the road
that leads to the Father.
THE FATHER'S MERCY
Merciful like the Father ... is the "motto" of this Holy Year. In mercy, we find proof
of how God loves us... Day after day, touched by His compassion, we also can become
compassionate towards others.
"BURNING DESIRE"
It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian people may reflect on
the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. It will be a way to reawaken our conscience,
too often grown dull in the face of poverty.

New Technology for Bible Telephone Line Ministry
Local Numbers Double Practically Overnight!
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 24 years. Begun by Fr. Al
in 1991, it now continues with three teachers trained by him and by Presentation
Ministries. In cities where local numbers have been established, the BTL provides
callers with a short teaching on the readings for the daily Mass. It is available 24
hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer request which
will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2015-05.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
HOLY YEAR OF MERCY
"ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL"
It is absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her message that
she herself live and testify to mercy. Her language and her gestures must transmit
mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and inspire them ... to find the road
that leads to the Father.
THE FATHER'S MERCY
Merciful like the Father ... is the "motto" of this Holy Year. In mercy, we find proof
of how God loves us... Day after day, touched by His compassion, we also can become
compassionate towards others.
"BURNING DESIRE"
It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian people may reflect on
the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. It will be a way to reawaken our conscience,
too often grown dull in the face of poverty.

HEARTBREAK HOTEL
"Jesus saw a vast crowd. He had compassion on them." -Mark 6:34, our transl.
Some people ruined Jesus' vacation (see Mk 6:31). They wouldn't even let Him and His apostles rest a little and eat (Mk 6:31). If a crowd of people made life that difficult for us, we might resent it or be upset. However, Jesus felt compassion for the crowd and "began to teach them at great length" (Mk 6:34).
Do you have the heart of Jesus for people who demand a lot from you, inconvenience you, or even hurt you? Are you willing to lay down your life to feed the sheep? (see Jn 21:17) Jesus is looking for people after His own heart (Acts 13:22), people with a shepherd's heart (see Jer 3:15).
Jesus gave us a new heart (Ez 36:26) when we were baptized into Him (see Rm 6:3). However, for that heart to beat with Christ's love even for the most unlovable, we must daily surrender every detail of our lives to Him. Jesus invites us: "Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29). Are you willing to learn to love with the heart of Jesus? Are you willing to have your heart broken open for love?
Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.
Promise: "I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock from all the lands to which I have driven them and bring them back to their meadow; there they shall increase and multiply." -Jer 23:3
Praise: Alleluia! Jesus is risen! He has conquered sin and death. Alleluia!

WORLD HISTORY
"The time the Israelites had stayed in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years." -Exodus 12:40
The book of Exodus describes millions of people being liberated from a slavery entrenched in their society for 430 years. Do you believe God can set millions free today? Do you believe He can unite Christ's body fragmented for hundreds of years? Do you believe in mass conversions? Do you believe strongholds of the evil one, entrenched for centuries, can come tumbling down?
God has always been able to effect a monumental liberation of the masses. He is doing it at this second in Africa, Korea, the Philippines, and in parts of South America. You may not have heard about it, because He proclaims justice and justification in a gentle, quiet way, without contending or crying out (Mt 12:19). Nonetheless, it is happening. Inevitably and irreversibly there is a movement that every knee bend and tongue proclaim: "JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!" (Phil 2:11) The only question is: Will we eliminate ourselves or be a part of the fulfillment of world history?
Prayer: Jesus, I accept You as Lord, God, and the Meaning of life. Thank You for letting me give my life to You.
Promise: "Here is My Servant Whom I have chosen, My loved One in Whom I delight. I will endow Him with My Spirit and He will proclaim justice." -Mt 12:18
Praise: St. Camillus was said to forget all pleasures, enticements, and interests of this world when he saw a sick person in need.
(For a related teaching, order our leaflet Mission Impossible" or our audio tape AV 46-1 or video V-46.)

NOTHING LESS THAN 100%
"The Son of Man is indeed Lord of the sabbath." -Matthew 12:8
Jesus responded to the Pharisees' criticism of Him and His disciples by comparing Himself to King David and the priests of the Temple (Mt 12:3, 5). Jesus also took the liberty of giving these religious leaders a lesson in interpreting the Bible (see Mt 12:7). Next, Jesus called Himself the Lord of the sabbath (Mt 12:8). In effect, He called Himself God.
The Pharisees probably thought: "Who does this Galilean Carpenter think He is?" Jesus acted as if He was King of kings, Priest of priests, Rabbi (Teacher) of rabbis, and God Himself. The Pharisees had no choice but to worship Jesus or stone Him as a blasphemer.
Jesus is also challenging you to believe in Him as your Lord, God, and All (see Jn 20:28). He wants to take over your whole life and make you realize your total dependence on Him (see Jn 15:5). He wants to be not part of your life, but all of your Life (see Phil 1:21). After all, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:6). Jesus doesn't want more of you or 99% of you. He wants all of you -100%.
Will you pray: "I have been crucified with Christ, and the life I live now is not my own; Christ is living in me"? (Gal 2:19-20)
Prayer: Father, as soon as possible may every knee bend and every tongue proclaim: JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! (Phil 2:10-11)
Promise: "This day shall be a memorial feast for you, which all your generations shall celebrate with pilgrimage to the Lord, as a perpetual institution." -Ex 12:14
Praise: Rita, though suffering serious physical hardships as well as the cross of loneliness, lives her life hidden in Jesus with absolute trust that He will work out every detail of her life.

THE "REST" OF THE STORY - One Bread, One Body, 7/16/2015
Thursday, July 16, 2015, Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Exodus 3:13-20, Psalm 105:1, 5, 8-9, 24-27, Matthew 11:28-30

THE "REST" OF THE STORY
"Your souls will find rest." -Matthew 11:29
We disciples labor under the yoke of Jesus (Mt 11:30; Lk 9:23). Jesus therefore calls us to rest in Him (Mt 11:29), yet even that demands effort on our part. Each day we have to "strive to enter into that rest" (Heb 4:11). Mysteriously, disciples often rest better when they are most diligent.
There's a balance to entering Jesus' rest. We can't strive too hard, for our efforts alone are futile (Is 26:17-18). We must let God's rest be done unto us (Lk 1:38). We yield to His grace, but avoid laziness, since we must cooperate with God's grace by accepting Jesus' yoke and bearing His burden (Mt 11:30).
Jesus Himself had no place to rest His head (Lk 9:58). This probably refers to more than a bed. Jesus also had no place to Himself. His "place" was constant interruptions, a lack of privacy, a life on the move, etc. Like Jesus, we embrace our cross of fatigue and weariness. Amid our fatigue, we have a fountain of life and rest which never runs dry. That "rest" is not found by those who take shortcuts or evade the cross. It's found by those who keep walking the path of Calvary, push through the cross, and discover that, in the place where He was crucified, there is a garden (Jn 19:41). In that garden, found only at the foot of the cross, is found the "rest" and the strength to endure.
St. Augustine said: "Our hearts are restless, O Lord, until they rest in Thee." "Come to" Jesus (Mt 11:28). Enter into His rest.
Prayer: Jesus, help me not to rest when I should be serving You (Mt 26:43-45) or to work when I should be resting in You (Ps 127:2; Ex 31:15). Only in You "is my soul at rest" (Ps 62:1).
Promise: "My yoke is easy and My burden light." -Mt 11:30
Praise: Teresa, a Carmelite, prays the divine office each day on the bus as she commutes to work.

DEPENDING ON REVELATION
"Father, Lord of heaven and earth, to You I offer praise; for what You have hidden from the learned and the clever You have revealed to the merest children." -Matthew 11:25
The Father reveals what has been hidden. The Son reveals the Father (Mt 11:27). God's revelation is so precious. Contrary to the old saying, what we don't know does hurt us. However, what we do know can do more than help us; it can transform us.
For example, Moses was a victim of Egyptian oppression. He never knew his parents. He had a speech defect. He was a murderer and a refugee (see Ex 2:11ff). However, when he received God's revelation at the burning bush, he became a new man. His job, residence, and even his face (Ex 34:29) changed. He changed from a frightened refugee into a mighty liberator. God's revelation to Moses resulted in the liberation of the whole Israelite nation. Revelation leads to transformation and liberation.
We receive divine revelation not by being learned and clever, but by being more dependent on the Lord than babies are on their parents (Mt 11:25). For instance, we can receive God's revelation by going to Mass and receiving Holy Communion in an attitude of adoration and submission. We can receive revelation by praying, fasting, and knowing that without Jesus we can do nothing (Jn 15:5). We can also receive revelation by reading and living the Church's teachings and the Bible without leaning on our own understanding (see Prv 3:5). We receive God's revelation when we depend on Him. New life is in revelation.
Prayer: Father, tell me "things great beyond reach of [my] knowledge" (Jer 33:3).
Promise: "Father, it is true. You have graciously willed it so. Everything has been given over to Me by My Father." -Mt 11:26-27
Praise: St. Bonaventure's humility was so great that he chose to finish washing the dishes before he would listen to the news of his being appointed cardinal.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
"When the child grew, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, who adopted him as her son and called him Moses; for she said, 'I drew him out of the water.' " -Exodus 2:10
Pharaoh's daughter named Moses. This is very significant because in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, to name a person means to give them their identity. Thus, the Lord often changes the names of people in the Bible. However, the Lord did not change Moses' name but let him struggle for most of his life with his identity. After God revealed His own name to Moses, Moses began to discover his identity and the meaning of his name (see Ex 3:14).
Moses' name provides the key to discovering who we are. Moses' name means: "I drew him out of the water" (Ex 2:10). We need to know who we are so we can realize that we must let God change who we are. We must admit our human nature is fallen and that we need to be born again of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5). When we are "drawn out of the waters" of Baptism, the Lord changes who we are and gives us the light to know who we are in Him.
Let us realize that we who have been drawn out of the waters of Baptism have been adopted and named by God the Father. Let's live our Baptisms, know ourselves, love ourselves, and love our neighbors (see Lk 10:27).
Prayer: Father, I revel in being Your adopted child.
Promise: "His own who are in bonds He spurns not." -Ps 69:34
Praise: After having two girls, the Hilton family had five baby boys in the next twenty-two years. Continuing to faithfully follow God's plan for their marriage, they rejoiced greatly when God blessed them with another girl, whom they named after St. Kateri.
