LOVED TO BE HOLY

"See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God!" -1 John 3:1

To become a saint in heaven, we must be baptized (see Mk 16:16), totally commit our lives to Jesus, and have a strong desire to be holy in every aspect of our conduct (1 Pt 1:15). We must strive "for that holiness without which no one can see the Lord" (Heb 12:14). To do this, we must hunger and thirst for righteousness and holiness (Mt 5:6).

We naturally do not have a strong desire to grow in holiness. Therefore, the Lord tries to increase our desire for holiness by commanding us to be holy (1 Pt 1:16) and by warning us that those who are not holy will eventually be hurled "into the fiery furnace where they will wail and grind their teeth" (Mt 13:42). Nevertheless, God's command and warning usually does not make that much of an impression on us. All of us have strong desires to avoid pain, be accepted, and have comfortable, easy lives. However, holiness entails surviving "the great period of trial" (Rv 7:14) and being persecuted, insulted, and slandered because of Jesus (Mt 5:10-11). It's very hard for us to desire to be holy under these conditions. To strongly desire holiness, we need something stronger than commandments, warnings, selfishness, and fears.

"Christ loved the Church. He gave Himself up for her to make her holy" (Eph 5:25-26). Christ loves us into desiring holiness and being holy. Let His love conquer all.

Prayer: Father, make my desire to be holy stronger than my desire to breathe, eat, drink, have sex, or make money.

Promise: "Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness; they shall have their fill." -Mt 5:6

Praise: "Salvation is from our God, Who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb!" (Rv 7:10)

THE MOST IMPORTANT LIVES

"Hoping for what we cannot see means awaiting it with patient endurance." -Romans 8:25

Because we:
* have been baptized into Christ (Rm 6:3),
* have the Trinity living within us (see Jn 17:23),
* are royal, priestly children of God (Rm 8:16; 1 Pt 2:9),
* are the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Mt 5:13-14), and
* by faith can do greater works than Jesus did (Jn 14:12),

our lives are of great significance for the whole world for all times.

Nevertheless, our lives are "hidden now with Christ in God" (Col 3:3). We feel as if we have "toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent" our strength (Is 49:4). "We ourselves, although we have the Spirit as First Fruits, groan inwardly while we await the redemption of our bodies" (Rm 8:23). The effects of our lives seem a tiny seed rather than a harvest (see Lk 13:19). We feel discouraged.

However, the truth is that:
* "The sufferings of the present" are "nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us" (Rm 8:18).
* In hope we are "saved. But hope is not hope if its object is seen" (Rm 8:24).
* We must "walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7).
* The Lord will multiply our little lives, if we give Him our "all" (see Mk 6:34ff; 8:1ff).

Therefore, be encouraged. Do not fear. Pray and work. "Rejoice in the Lord!" (Phil 4:4) Jesus may be coming back at any moment!

Prayer: Father, I offer my life and my body to You as a living sacrifice (Rm 12:1).

Promise: "Indeed, the whole created world eagerly awaits the revelation of the sons of God." -Rm 8:19

Praise: Robert repented of listening to unclean and degrading jokes.

"ARISE, O LORD"

"Arise, O Lord, that Your enemies may be scattered, and those who hate You may flee before You." -Numbers 10:35; see also Psalm 68:2

Moses prayed the above verse whenever the Israelites in the desert prepared to break camp and set out with the Ark of the Covenant on a new stage of their journey. When that day's travel was finished, Moses prayed: "Return, O Lord, You Who ride upon the clouds, to the troops of Israel" (Nm 10:36). In this way, God led the Israelites through a cloud of fire on their journey. God's assistance in the time of the exodus is the model of all future divine assistance.

As Moses did, so the Church also prays morning and evening prayer in the Divine Office. This prayer prays that, as God has called His people forth on mission, we would go forth trusting that the Lord goes before us in the direction He has called us. We trust that He will be especially present throughout the day, clearing away His enemies (and ours) like walls of water to each side so that we could walk through the danger zone of mission on dry ground like the Israelites through the Red Sea (Ex 14:21ff).

We face so many enemies to the spread of the Gospel and to setting people free in Jesus. The Lord faced enemies when He healed the woman who was stooped over (Lk 13:14ff). Jesus' enemies were humiliated and "covered with confusion" (Lk 13:17). Like Moses, call upon the Lord daily in the morning as you begin His work and in the evening as you finish His work. He will clear you a straight path (see Lk 3:4; Is 40:3).

Prayer: Father, may I love my enemies in Jesus, but not let them prevent Your kingdom from coming on this earth.

Promise: "Should not this daughter of Abraham here who has been in the bondage of Satan for eighteen years have been released from her shackles on the sabbath?" -Lk 13:16

Praise: Dolores prays for the unborn, their parents, and for abortionists.

PM eNewsletter 30th Sunday in ordinary time

October 29th 30th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, Your church has chosen this time of the year to honor all our saints, those in
heaven and those in purgatory.

Those in heaven, we look to for inspiration to live lives in the grace of sainthood,
and to ask them to intercede for us and others.

But, we also especially pray for all those still being purified, so that they can
enter your heavenly kingdom to live with You, and the Father, and the Spirit, forever
and ever.

Jesus, let us all be prayer warriors for all who need prayer and supplication.

Let us never tire of praying, and at all times, let us pray in union with others of
just, in union with You, and all the saints.

Let us fill the earth with prayer and love,

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LOVE LOVE HIMSELF
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/29/2017

"I love You, O Lord, my Strength." -Psalm 18:2

Jesus revealed that the two greatest commandments were about loving God and our neighbor
(Mt 22:37-39). Jesus maintained that His mission was to show us the Father's love (Jn 15:9).
He commanded us to love even our enemies (Mt 5:44). Jesus said that we would be recognized
as His disciples because of our "love for one another" (Jn 13:35). Finally, Jesus laid down
His life for us when He died on the cross. "There is no greater love than this" (Jn 15:13).

The first Christians began to understand Jesus' life of love. They came to realize that:

- God the Father "so loved the world that He gave His only Son" (Jn 3:16).
- "Love never fails" (1 Cor 13:8).
- Without love, we are nothing (1 Cor 13:2).
- "Love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Pt 4:8).
- Love is greater than even faith or hope (1 Cor 13:13).
- "The love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit" (Rm 5:5).

Finally, the early Church came to the awesome conclusion that "God is Love, and he who
abides in Love abides in God, and God in him" (1 Jn 4:16; see 1 Jn 4:8). Love Love Himself.

Prayer: Father, may the love of Christ impel us (2 Cor 5:14) to make disciples of all
nations (Mt 28:19).

Promise: "The word of the Lord has echoed forth from you resoundingly." -1 Thes 1:8

Praise: Praise Jesus of Nazareth (Mk 10:47), Son of David (Mk 10:47, 48), Rabboni (Mk 10:51),
"the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25), Lord, and God!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

FATIMA AND HOPE

MARY OUR MOTHER

We have a Mother! "So beautiful a Lady", as the seers of Fatima said to each other as they
returned home on that blessed day of May 13 a hundred years ago.

GOD'S LIGHT OVERCOMES DARKNESS

Our Lady foretold, and warned us about, a way of life that is godless and indeed profanes
God in His creatures. Such a life - frequently proposed and imposed- risks leading to hell.
Mary came to remind us that God's light dwells within us and protects us ... According to
the belief and experience of many pilgrims, ...Fatima is more than anything this mantle of
Light that protects us, here as in almost no other place on earth.

LIVE IN HOPE

... We have a Mother, we have a Mother! Clinging to her like children, we live in the hope
that rests on Jesus.

"THE WAR ON TERROR" - One Bread, One Body, 10/28/2017

Saturday, October 28, 2017, Sts. Simon & Jude

Ephesians 2:19-22, Psalm 19:2-5, Luke 6:12-16
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102817.cfm

"THE WAR ON TERROR"

"He called His disciples and selected twelve of them to be His apostles...Simon called the Zealot..." -Luke 6:13, 15

Jesus places His heaven-sent ministry in the hands of Simon and Jude, along with ten other apostles. Simon was called the Zealot (Lk 6:15). Zealots were similar to what we would today call "terrorists." Why would Jesus entrust His ministry and His reputation to a terrorist? Imagine the outcry today if a bishop hired a terrorist to lead a major diocesan ministry!

Before meeting Jesus, St. Paul often acted like a terrorist. "He entered house after house, dragged men and women out, and threw them into jail" (Acts 8:3). He even said of himself: "So wild was my fury against [Christians] that I pursued them even to foreign cities" (Acts 26:11).

Groups who wreak terror, such as ISIS and Al Qaeda, invoke great fear throughout the world. Do you believe that Jesus is able to convert even the most hardened terrorist? He converted St. Simon the Zealot and St. Paul, and He is the same today as He was at that time (Heb 13:8). Not only did Jesus convert these men to faith, He raised Simon and Paul to the level of apostles. These men are now the foundation of the Church! (see Eph 2:20; Rv 21:14) Now Saints Simon and Paul cause terror in the kingdom of darkness!

Jesus' approach to terrorists was to cover them with love, convert them, and then entrust them with ministry. In the Litany of St. Joseph, he is invoked with the title "Terror of Demons." Let us terrify the kingdom of darkness by our redemptive suffering and loving, obedient, confident faith in Jesus.

Prayer: Father, may I trust You and have no fear in loving anyone.

Promise: "You are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God." -Eph 2:19

Praise: Sts. Simon and Jude received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. "They began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them" (Acts 2:4).

If we're honest with ourselves, we will have to admit that we may have not been honest with ourselves. This is because, if we had been honest, we would have had to admit that there is something very wrong with us. No good dwells in us (Rm 7:18). We have "the desire to do right" but "not the power" (Rm 7:18).

"What happens is that" we "do, not the good" we "will to do, but the evil" we "do not intend" (Rm 7:19). "This makes" us prisoners "of the law of sin" in our body's members (Rm 7:23). We are wretched because our bodies are "under the power of death" (Rm 7:24). Who can free us from this miserable human condition? (Rm 7:24) Only through Jesus Christ our Lord can we be freed from our self-destructive, fallen nature (Rm 7:25). "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rm 8:1).

Because Jesus is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord, and God, we center all time and life on Him (see 1 Pt 1:21), and measure years from the approximate year of His birth. In the beginning of the third millennium, totally give your life to Jesus. Love Him with all your heart. Worship Him and tell everyone Who Jesus is and what He has done. Proclaim that " 'life' means Christ" (Phil 1:21).

Prayer: Jesus, You gave Your life for me. I give my life to You.

Promise: "If you can interpret the portents of earth and sky, why can you not interpret the present time?" -Lk 12:56

Praise: Jessica rejoiced in the deeper unity she and her husband enjoyed after he came into the Church at the Easter Vigil.

THE CHOICE - One Bread, One Body, 10/26/2017

Thursday, October 26, 2017

Romans 6:19-23, Psalm 1:1-4, 6, Luke 12:49-53
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102617.cfm

THE CHOICE

"When you were slaves of sin, you had freedom from justice. What benefit did you then enjoy?" -Romans 6:20-21

Every human being is both enslaved and free. We can choose to be "slaves of sin" (Rm 6:20) and thus free from justice, or we can be "freed from sin" and "slaves of God" (Rm 6:22). If we choose slavery to sin, we "will reap a harvest of corruption" (Gal 6:8), things that we will be "ashamed of, all of them tending toward death" (Rm 6:21). If we choose to be freed from sin and slaves of God, we will be sanctified (Rm 6:19, 22). "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rm 6:23).

Throughout this day and every day, each of us by our actions, words, thoughts, activities, and silences choose life or death, light or darkness, sin or holiness, Jesus or selfishness. Choose life! (Dt 30:19) Choose Jesus! Repent! Go to Confession. Choose to take up daily the cross of Jesus, and invite everyone else to do the same. Jesus is standing and knocking at the door of your heart. He promises: "If anyone hears Me calling and opens the door, I will enter his house and have supper with him, and he with Me. I will give the victor the right to sit with Me on My throne" (Rv 3:20-21). Choose to open the door to Jesus!

Prayer: Father, may the love of Christ impel me (2 Cor 5:14).

Promise: "I have come to light a fire on the earth." -Lk 12:49

Praise: By continuing to renew her Baptism, Bernadette continues to renounce sin and do good. She attends daily Mass, adores the Eucharist daily before Mass, and prays the Rosary after Mass.

A HUMBLE ENDING - One Bread, One Body, 10/25/2017

Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Romans 6:12-18, Psalm 124:1-8, Luke 12:39-48
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102517.cfm

A HUMBLE ENDING

"Who in your opinion is that faithful, farsighted steward?" -Luke 12:42

Jesus, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, will return in glory, riding on the clouds, escorted by the angels amid mighty trumpet blasts (see Mt 25:31; 1 Thes 4:16). When He arrives, He will surprisingly "put on an apron," seat His humble disciples "at table, and proceed to wait on them" (Lk 12:37). In contrast, those who in their pride have chosen to not do the Lord's will and to not love their neighbors will be punished forever (see Lk 12:46).

We will be ready for Jesus' final coming, if we have chosen to:
* put on work-aprons each day to feed and love others (see Lk 12:42),
* tie towels around our waists to imitate Jesus and wash the feet of other disciples (Jn 13:4ff),
* take the lowest place (Lk 14:10), as did Jesus at Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Calvary, and
* empty (Phil 2:7) and humble ourselves (Mt 23:12).

The humble servants of Jesus will not only inherit the earth (Mt 5:5) but also the kingdom of heaven (see Jas 2:5). The Lord has promised: "For then will I remove from your midst the proud braggarts, and you shall no longer exalt yourself on My holy mountain. But I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and lowly" (Zep 3:11-12). Jesus will return in glorious humility to lead the humble to glory. Serve humbly and cry out: "Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!"

Prayer: Jesus, "gentle and humble of heart," make my heart like Yours (Mt 11:29).

Promise: "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted." -Lk 12:48

Praise: Bob and Katie spread the gospel by blogging as a Catholic couple on the Internet.

HOPE-FULL - One Bread, One Body, 10/24/2017

Tuesday, October 24, 2017, St. Anthony Mary Claret

Romans 5:12, 15, 17-21, Psalm 40:7-10, 17, Luke 12:35-38
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102417.cfm

HOPE-FULL

"As sin reigned through death, grace may reign by way of justice leading to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord." -Romans 5:21

The body of Christ is broken. The culture of death is becoming even more oppressive. Millions of babies do not survive long enough to be born. The unfaithfulness of Christians is scandalous. Under these circumstances, you would think we would be depressed and even despairing.

However, "despite the increase of sin, grace has far surpassed it" (Rm 5:20). Pope St. John Paul II prophesied that we can have a new springtime of the Christian life right now if we are docile to the action of the Holy Spirit (Towards the Third Millennium (TMA), 18). After this new springtime, justice and freedom will be restored to the world (TMA, 16). Jeremiah also prophesied: "I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope" (Jer 29:11). The bishops of Vatican II have also prophesied that Mary is a sign of sure hope (Lumen Gentium, 68). With Mary leading her children, we will cross the threshold of hope into the new millennium.

In a despairing world, we Christians are a people full of hope, "and this hope will not leave us disappointed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us" (Rm 5:5). Therefore, "should anyone ask you the reason for this hope of yours, be ever ready to reply" (1 Pt 3:15). There is hope in Christ, and only in Christ.

Prayer: Father, may I be motivated by hope (see Col 1:4).

Promise: "It will go well with those servants whom the Master finds wide-awake on His return. I tell you, He will put on an apron, seat them at table, and proceed to wait on them." -Lk 12:37

Praise: St. Anthony Claret founded the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Claretians.

WHAT'S YOUR CREDIT SCORE? - One Bread, One Body, 10/23/2017

Monday, October 23, 2017, St. John of Capistrano

Romans 4:20-25, Luke 1:69-75, Luke 12:13-21
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102317.cfm

WHAT'S YOUR CREDIT SCORE?

"The words, 'It was credited to him,' were not written with [Abraham] alone in view; they were intended for us too. For our faith will be credited to us also if we believe in Him Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." -Romans 4:23-24

The patriarch Abraham believed God in a very difficult matter. "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him" as righteousness (Rm 4:3, 22; see also Gn 15:6).

Many are focused on improving their credit score. Without a good credit score, it can be very difficult to get a loan, rent an apartment, or do basic things to make a living. Many people pay very close attention to their credit rating. They worry about it and change their lives in order to improve their credit score.

The man in today's Gospel reading who had a good harvest would have had a high credit score. He had provisions in store for years to come (Lk 12:19). Yet all his treasures existed for himself, not for God. When he died that same evening, his high worldly credit score suddenly meant nothing for his eternal future.

Deposit your treasures in heaven, not on earth (Mt 6:19-20). That is where your true treasure should lie. Set your hearts, and credit rating, on the Lord above (Col 3:1-2). God does not keep score, and we cannot earn points to curry His favor. But He does credit our obedient faith to us (Rm 4:23-24). So seek to have the faith of Abraham. Believe God for all things and at all times.

Prayer: "Lord, 'increase our faith' " (Lk 17:5). Give me obedient, water-walking faith.

Promise: "He has dealt mercifully with our fathers and remembered the holy covenant He made." -Lk 1:72

Praise: St. John, governor of Perugia, was taken prisoner in a war. Jesus touched his heart and, after he was released from prison, John gave his life to Jesus and became a priest. Many were converted through John's preaching.

PM eNewsletter 29th Sunday in ordinary time

October 22nd 29th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, once again You have given us a saint that we can try to be like in our love for You.

St. Anthony Claret, Bishop of Cuba, was a man whose heart was on fire and filled with the
Holy Spirit.

He lived his life in such a way that all saw You through him.

Jesus, inflame our hearts and fill us with Your spirit, that we may do great things in
ordinary ways.

Let Your spirit guide us, and use us, to be a messenger of Your love.

Let us all realize that we have been called to each be a missionary in this darkened world,
a light to draw others to You, and a guide to bring our fallen away Catholics, back to Your
most blessed gift of Your Body and Blood Your sacraments of love.

Thank you Jesus for the Eucharist.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LIVING THE HARD LIFE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/22/2017

"Grace and peace be yours." -1 Thessalonians 1:1

First Thessalonians is probably the earliest book of the New Testament. Therefore, it has
special significance. To better understand these words of St. Paul, we must understand his
life. Paul described his life in the following way: "...with my many more labors and
imprisonments, with far worse beatings and frequent brushes with death. Five times at the
hands of the Jews I received forty lashes less one; three times I was beaten with rods; I
was stoned once, shipwrecked three times; I passed a day and a night on the sea. I
traveled continually, endangered by floods, robbers, my own people, the Gentiles;
imperiled in the city, in the desert, at sea, by false brothers; enduring labor, hardship,
many sleepless nights; in hunger and thirst and frequent fastings, in cold and nakedness.
Leaving other sufferings unmentioned, there is that daily tension pressing on me, my
anxiety for all the churches" (2 Cor 11:23-28).

Paul suffered greatly in his life for Christ. Paul had a very hard life. However, it made
him better rather than bitter because he belonged "to God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ" (1 Thes 1:1). Despite his extreme sufferings, Paul did not see his life as a series
of cruel tragedies but as grace upon grace (see 1 Thes 1:1). When Paul looked at people,
especially Christians, he kept thanking God for all of them and remembering them in his
prayers (1 Thes 1:2). Although Paul was treated inhumanely, he loved life and people,
because he loved Jesus. Live and love accordingly, especially if your life is hard.

Prayer: Father, work together all things for the good of those who love You (see Rm 8:28).

Promise: "...opening doors before him and leaving the gates unbarred." -Is 45:1

Praise: Praise Jesus, the risen Savior and Lord! Praise Jesus, Redeemer, Messiah, and King!

Prayer for a loving husband and companion; a loving, financially secure; mentally,
emotionally, physically and physiologically healthy; and mature gentleman. I am so alone,
no loved ones, no one to care, to call. I actually live to work that is the only place I
feel cared for and appreciated. It hurts during holidays, vacation, weekends; because
there isn't anyone. I do have friends, they are far away and have their own lives -tried
to use Internet matching sites; however, only seem to meet folks who have not been honest,
or mature and ready for relationships. I seek friendship, companionship, love, honesty,
security and a supportive partner. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

needs. Through you all is possible. Only through You LORD can the possible become the
possible. The bible tells us, You are present when we join in prayer. The bible tells us,
You want us to ask. LORD guide me to become closer to You and all of us to be closer to
You. LORD let me hear Your voice among the noise of the world. Let me and us respond as

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2017-09.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

FAITH AND MISSION

JESUS CONTINUES TO ACT

Through the mission of the Church, Jesus Christ Himself continues to evangelize and act...
Through the proclamation of the Gospel, the risen Jesus becomes our contemporary, so that
those who welcome Him with faith and love can experience the transforming power of His
Spirit...

A CRITICAL NEED

The world vitally needs the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through the Church, Christ continues
His mission as the Good Samaritan, caring for the bleeding wounds of humanity, and as Good
Shepherd, constantly seeking out those who wander along winding paths leading to nowhere.

YOUTH AND MISSION

Young people are the hope of mission. The person of Jesus Christ and the Good News He
proclaimed continue to attract many young people. They seek ways to put themselves with
courage and enthusiasm at the service of humanity.

LIVING THE HARD LIFE

"Grace and peace be yours." -1 Thessalonians 1:1

First Thessalonians is probably the earliest book of the New Testament. Therefore, it has special significance. To better understand these words of St. Paul, we must understand his life. Paul described his life in the following way: "...with my many more labors and imprisonments, with far worse beatings and frequent brushes with death. Five times at the hands of the Jews I received forty lashes less one; three times I was beaten with rods; I was stoned once, shipwrecked three times; I passed a day and a night on the sea. I traveled continually, endangered by floods, robbers, my own people, the Gentiles; imperiled in the city, in the desert, at sea, by false brothers; enduring labor, hardship, many sleepless nights; in hunger and thirst and frequent fastings, in cold and nakedness. Leaving other sufferings unmentioned, there is that daily tension pressing on me, my anxiety for all the churches" (2 Cor 11:23-28).

Paul suffered greatly in his life for Christ. Paul had a very hard life. However, it made him better rather than bitter because he belonged "to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thes 1:1). Despite his extreme sufferings, Paul did not see his life as a series of cruel tragedies but as grace upon grace (see 1 Thes 1:1). When Paul looked at people, especially Christians, he kept thanking God for all of them and remembering them in his prayers (1 Thes 1:2). Although Paul was treated inhumanely, he loved life and people, because he loved Jesus.

HEIRS APPARENT

"The promise made to Abraham and his descendants that they would inherit the world did not depend on the law; it was made in view of the justice that comes from faith." -Romans 4:13

The Lord promised Abraham that he would inherit the world. In Jesus, we are greater than Abraham (Mt 11:11). In Jesus, we inherit the world, and we have "the nations for an inheritance and the ends of the earth" for our possession (Ps 2:8).

As heirs of the world, we must be the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Mt 5:13-14). As heirs of the world, we make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19), for the Lord wants all to be saved (1 Tm 2:4). Inheriting the world, we renew the face of the earth through the power of the Holy Spirit (see Ps 104:30). Inheriting the world, we are catholic, that is universal, and we are missionary. The evangelization of the world is our heart's desire, as it is the desire of Jesus' heart.

So let us be "heirs of God, heirs with Christ" (Rm 8:17). Let us be light, salt, evangelizers, missionaries, and catholic.

Prayer: Father, teach me to live (Rm 8:17).

Promise: "When they bring you before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say. The Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment all that should be said." -Lk 12:11-12

Praise: Michael spreads the Good News by regularly posting Scripture teaching videos on YouTube.

KNOW JESUS - NO FEAR - One Bread, One Body, 10/20/2017

Friday, October 20, 2017, St. Paul of the Cross

Romans 4:1-8, Psalm 32:1-2, 5, 11, Luke 12:1-7
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/102017.cfm

KNOW JESUS - NO FEAR

"I say to you who are My friends: Do not be afraid." -Luke 12:4

"You did not receive a spirit of slavery leading you back into fear, but a spirit of adoption" (Rm 8:15). Satan, however, tries to make us lifelong slaves through the fear of death (Heb 2:15). In this battle against fear, we can claim Jesus' victory by accepting the grace to:
* fear the Lord. "He who fears the Lord is never alarmed, never afraid; for the Lord is his Hope" (Sir 34:14),
* fear going to hell (Lk 12:5),
* have faith in Jesus, Who said to Jairus after his daughter had died: "Do not fear; only believe" (Mk 5:36, our transl), and
* love everyone, even enemies, for "complete love casts out all fear" (1 Jn 4:18, our transl).

Jesus commands us: "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and can do no more" (Lk 12:4). He adds: "Fear nothing" (Lk 12:7). In the Scriptures, God commands us 365 times: "Do not fear." Because the Lord always graces us to obey His commands, we constantly have the grace to be free from the fear of man. Jesus says: "Do not live in fear, little flock. It has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom" (Lk 12:32). In Christ, you are fearless.

Prayer: Father, send me the Spirit of courage (see 2 Tm 1:7) to face the fears in my life.

Promise: "Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you just; exult, all you upright of heart." -Ps 32:11

Praise: St. Paul of the Cross was a missionary to Italy for fifty years. Particularly devoted to the Passion of Christ, he especially ministered to the sick, the dying, the lapsed, and the sinner needing reconciliation.

JUST NOW - One Bread, One Body, 10/19/2017

Thursday, October 19, 2017, St. Isaac Jogues,, St. John de Brébeuf, and, the North American Martyrs

Romans 3:21-30, Psalm 130:1-6, Luke 11:47-54
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101917.cfm

JUST NOW

"He did so to manifest His own justice." -Romans 3:25

"Just yesterday, I was just just, just as he was." The preceding sentence contains grammatically correct English. It shows the many usages of the word "just." The sentence can be more clearly stated: "As recently as yesterday, I was merely fair, exactly as he was." The English word "just" is just plain confusing.

Similarly, throughout the history of Christianity, most notably from the time of the Protestant Reformation, the words "just," "justice," and "justification" have been taught and understood in ways that are confusing. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the truth (Jn 16:13) about justice by prayerfully meditating on the following truths:
* God is just.
* "Both law and prophets bear witness" to God's justice (Rm 3:21).
* The justice of God "works through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe" (Rm 3:22).
* "All men are now undeservedly justified by the gift of God, through the redemption wrought in Christ Jesus" (Rm 3:24).
* "You must perceive that a person is justified by his works and not by faith alone" (Jas 2:24).

After praying about these Scriptures, look up grace, faith, and justice in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (see the Catechism's index for help). Let the Spirit teach you (Jn 14:26) about justice (Jn 16:8, 10).

Prayer: Father, make me just, and not just just but also merciful.

Promise: "I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in His word. My soul waits for the Lord more than sentinels wait for the dawn." -Ps 130:5-6

Praise: St. Isaac Jogues and companions suffered injustice bravely, yet they still spread the good news of Jesus to their torturers.

"THE QUALITY OF MERCY" - One Bread, One Body, 10/18/2017

Wednesday, October 18, 2017, St. Luke

2 Timothy 4:10-17, Psalm 145:10-13, 17-18, Luke 10:1-9
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101817.cfm

"THE QUALITY OF MERCY"

"I have no one with me but Luke." -2 Timothy 4:11

When Paul wrote his second letter to Timothy, Luke was the only one with him. Although Paul was on trial, everyone had abandoned him (2 Tm 4:16).

Luke seems to have had a heart of mercy for the lonely and abandoned. Only in Luke's Gospel do we meet the penitent woman (Lk 7:37), the good Samaritan (Lk 10:33), the prodigal son (Lk 15:12), Lazarus the beggar (Lk 16:20), the thankful healed Samaritan leper (Lk 17:16), the tax collector in the Temple (Lk 18:10), Zacchaeus the tax collector (Lk 19:2), and the "good thief" (Lk 23:40). These are just a few of the people that only Luke records as receiving God's mercy.

As in Luke's time, our world is increasingly overflowing with lonely and abandoned people. Although many are innocent victims of others' sins, we have also caused our own problems. We have begun to receive the just wages of our sins (Rm 6:23). Although we deserve to suffer, we can receive and give mercy because Jesus met the demands of justice on Calvary. "Blest are they who show mercy, mercy shall be theirs" (Mt 5:7).

Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me and on others through me.

Promise: "The harvest is rich but the workers are few; therefore ask the harvest-Master to send workers to His harvest." -Lk 10:2

Praise: St. Luke ministered to the suffering, including us. He especially emphasized prayer, poverty, and purity of heart.

ASHAMED OF MERCY? - One Bread, One Body, 10/17/2017

Tuesday, October 17, 2017, St. Ignatius of Antioch

Romans 1:16-25, Psalm 19:2-5, Luke 11:37-41
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101717.cfm

ASHAMED OF MERCY?

"I am not ashamed of the gospel." -Romans 1:16

I wonder if deep down we don't proclaim the Good News more fervently because we are embarrassed that the guilty receive unmerited mercy. The rapist, terrorist, abortionist, murderer, and other wrongdoers confess their sins (Ps 32:5), repent and sin no more (Jn 8:11), accept and live their Baptism, and their sins are simply forgiven. They receive eternal life in heaven (see Lk 23:42-43). They seem to not receive the punishment due to their sins. "There is no condemnation now for those who are in Jesus Christ" (Rm 8:1). To law-abiding citizens, this can look unfair.

Our secular society demands justice and punishment. Simply browse the comments in any social media outlet when a grave act of injustice occurs. Victims cry out for healing and restitution. Lawyers press for damages, and then some. Bystanders scream for punishment, even before a criminal trial.

The gospel of Christ (Rm 1:16) proclaims that Jesus is our Justice (1 Cor 1:30). Accordingly, He handles all the demands of justice for all parties. The gospel also proclaims that "God is rich in mercy" (Eph 2:4), and that God repays any damages that have occurred (see Jl 2:25). Jesus receives the punishment in place of sinners and pours out mercy on both sinner and victim.

Instead of taking on Jesus' job of figuring out punishments and restorations, our role is to fall on our knees before Jesus and beg for mercy and justice. Humanity is unable to do the job which belongs properly to the Lord, for His ways are far beyond our ways (Is 55:8-9). The conflicting demands of mercy and justice are no problem for Jesus, Who is Mercy and Justice incarnate.

Prayer: Father, remove from my heart and mind any embarrassment that might exist about Your lavish mercy toward sinners.

Promise: "If you give what you have as alms, all will be wiped clean for you." -Lk 11:41

Praise: St. Ignatius worked for Christian unity by proclaiming the Eucharist.

CALLED AND LOVED BY NAME - One Bread, One Body, 10/16/2017

Monday, October 16, 2017, St. Hedwig, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Romans 1:1-7, Psalm 98:1-4, Luke 11:29-32
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101617.cfm

CALLED AND LOVED BY NAME

"Greetings from Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called..." -Romans 1:1

Paul was very conscious of being "called to be an apostle" (Rm 1:1). He was also quite aware that he was writing to those "called to belong to Jesus Christ" (Rm 1:6) and "called to holiness, grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (Rm 1:7). Being called was so important to the early Church that the root meaning of the word we translate "church" is "the called out." The early Christians considered themselves to be the elect, the specially chosen, "the called out," called to a special love of the Lord.

For human beings, to be special implies exclusivity, not inclusivity. If everyone's special, no one's special. Therefore, we may not feel specially chosen, because we know that God loves everyone. However, the Lord is not bound by our limitations. He can love everyone with a personalized, individualized love. He made each of us as one-of-a-kind. He knows each of us so much better than we can ever know ourselves. He loves each of us not with a generic love; rather, He calls, knows, and loves us each by name (Is 43:1). He has numbered the hairs of our heads (Mt 10:30) and has counted our tears (Ps 56:9). He knows and cares about our comings and goings (Ps 139:3ff).

Each of us is called - specially, uniquely chosen for the Lord's love. Live in His love (Jn 15:9). Answer the call!

Prayer: Father, I thank and praise You for Your personal, intimate love for me.

Promise: "At the judgment, the citizens of Nineveh will rise along with the present generation, and they will condemn it. For at the preaching of Jonah they reformed, but you have a greater than Jonah here." -Lk 11:32

Praise: Although St. Margaret Mary only lived forty-three years, her devotions to the Sacred Heart have flourished for over three centuries.

PM eNewsletter 28th Sunday in ordinary time

October 15th 28th Sunday in ordinary time.

Jesus, You wanted us to know the depth of Your love, and so You chose St. Margaret Mary
to see Your heart in all of it's tremendous love for us.

You showed her a heart surrounded with thorns, cut and bleeding, yet with a fire coming
from the top of Your heart.

A fire of divine love, and a heart that is beating for us, to show us that life is only
worth living, if our heart and Your heart beat in unison.

We must take on Your heart of love so that we can love, and we can be the person of
Christ to others.

We must have a courageous heart that isn't afraid to stand against the evils of the world.

A heart that is on fire, and ready to bleed if necessary, to further You to all around us.

Thank You Jesus, for Your heart of love.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "COME TO THE FEAST" (Mt 22:4)
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/15/2017

"He will destroy death forever." -Isaiah 25:8

Fifteen years ago this week, I received a phone call informing me that Father Al Lauer,
founder and long-time author of One Bread, One Body, died. Father Al had been suffering
from cancer of the liver. That same morning, Mass was celebrated in Father's bedroom. The
Word of God came to life in that Mass as today's Scripture readings, which were also
proclaimed in 2002 in the repeating Sunday liturgical cycle, proclaimed the glorious future
that would lie in store for this dying, saintly man of faith. On his last day on earth,
Father heard the Word of God promise him:

- "I shall dwell in the house of the Lord" (Ps 23:6).

- "On that day it will be said:'Behold our God, to Whom we looked to save us! This is the
Lord for Whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that He has saved us!' " (Is 25:9)

- "Tell those who were invited, See, I have My dinner prepared!...Everything is ready. Come
to the feast" (Mt 22:4).

- "My God in turn will supply your needs fully, in a way worthy of His magnificent riches in
Christ Jesus. All glory to our God and Father for unending ages!" (Phil 4:19-20)

"Happy now are the dead who die in the Lord! The Spirit added, 'Yes, they shall find rest
from their labors, for their good works accompany them' " (Rv 14:13). Father's motto in his
parish ministry was: "Fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1). We rejoice to know that Father Al's
eyes are forever fixed on Jesus!

Prayer: Father, grant eternal rest to the soul of Father Al Lauer and to all the souls of
the faithful departed.

Promise: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures He gives me repose;
beside restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul." -Ps 23:1-3

Praise: Glory and honor to You, Lord Jesus Christ!

FAITH AND MISSION

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

... It is important to ask ourselves certain questions about our Christian identity and our
responsibility as believers in a world marked by confusion, disappointment and frustration, and
torn by numerous fratricidal wars that unjustly target the innocent. What is the basis of our
mission? What is the heart of our mission? What are the essential approaches we need to take in
carrying out our mission?

TRANSFORMING POWER

The Church's mission, directed to all men and women of good will, is based on the transformative
power of the Gospel.

NEW LIFE

The Gospel is Good News filled with contagious joy for it contains and offers new life: the life
of the Risen Christ who by bestowing His life-giving Spirit, becomes for us the Way, the Truth
and the Life (cf. Jn 14:6)
