PM eNewsletter The first Sunday of Advent

Nov. 23rd The first Sunday of Advent

Jesus, help us to enter into this special season that
calls us to reflect on who, and what, we really are.

Are we living the Christed life, or are we in the world,
and caught up in all the things of this world?

Lord, help us to see in this preparation season toward
Your birth, that we have an obligation to come to know,
love, and serve You by serving others.

Let us all make You a gift of love for others that will fill
Your Christmas cheer with joy.

Let us remember that You are the reason for this
season, not gifts.

Thank You, Jesus, for becoming one of us to set us
free forever. Amen and Amen

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday CHRISTMAS FEAR
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=11/30/2008

"There is none who calls upon Your name, who rouses
himself to cling to You." —Isaiah 64:6

Happy new year! Today we begin the Church year and
the season of Advent. We begin to prepare for what
could be one of the greatest events in our lives, Christ's
Christmas coming. Christ will come in glory and power
this Christmas if only we have faith to open the door.
Will we open our hearts to the Lord as He comes to "rend
the heavens and come down, with the mountains quaking"
before Him? (Is 63:19) Are we open to "awesome deeds
we could not hope for, such as they had not heard of from
of old"? (Is 64:2-3) "No ear has ever heard, no eye ever
seen" what the Lord has prepared for us this Christmas (Is 64:3).

If we're honest with ourselves, we may be afraid of Christ
and Christmas, for "it is a fearful thing to fall into the
hands of the living God" (Heb 10:31). We're tempted to
hide from God (Gn 3:10) in Christmas customs, activities,
and even in mindless consumerism. There's a Herod in
each of us that's threatened by and afraid of Christ and
Christmas. We must change, repent, and die to self. We
need time to let Him change our hearts. We need the
four-week preparation of Advent, or we will run away from
Christ and a true Christmas.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus' name, thank God
that the result of ultrasound today was fine and that the
baby is a baby boy like we both expect. However, the
doctor saw that the baby who is now 29 weeks old is
twisted by umbilical cord and this can endanger his life.
Please pray that baby's umbilical cord will go back to
normal position and not twist around his neck anymore.
Pray also that the baby will be able to survive until the
due date or at least until he is 35 -36 weeks, when he
is "mature" enough and the mother is also healthy and
not stressful. Thank you very much for all your
continuous prayers and thoughts. God is good. GBU.

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE ROSARY

"STAY FAITHFUL"
Let us stay faithful to Our Lady and thus we shall stay
faithful to love and to peace.

"INTIMACY WITH JESUS"
The experience of the Saints bears witness to it: this
popular Marian prayer [the Rosary] is a precious spiritual
means to grow in intimacy with Jesus, and to learn at the
school of the Blessed Virgin always to fulfill the divine will.
It is contemplation of the mysteries of Christ in spiritual
union with Mary ...

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
To be apostles of the Rosary, ... it is necessary to
experience personally the beauty and depth of this prayer
which is simple and accessible to everyone.

THE HAPPIEST ENDING

"The Lord God shall give them light, and they shall reign
forever." —Revelation 22:5

Today is the last day of the Church year, and the Church calls us to read
the last chapter of the Bible, which gives us a picture of heaven. We see
"the river of life-giving water, clear as crystal, which issued from the
throne of God and of the Lamb and flowed down the middle of the streets"
(Rv 22:1-2). We see "the trees of life which produce fruit twelve times a
year, once each month" (Rv 22:2). Best of all, we see Jesus "face to face"
(Rv 22:4). We definitely have "a future full of hope" (Jer 29:11).

The Bible's last chapter will be fulfilled very soon because the Lord is
coming very soon (Rv 22:7). To be prepared for His final coming and to
inherit the kingdom of heaven, we must:
* bear Jesus' name on our foreheads (Rv 22:4). This means that we have
totally, publicly, and permanently committed our lives to Jesus,
* "be on guard" lest our "spirits become bloated with indulgence and
drunkenness and worldly cares" (Lk 21:34), and
* "pray constantly for the strength to escape whatever is in prospect,
and to stand secure before the Son of Man" (Lk 21:36).

On the last day of the Church year, let's surrender our lives to Jesus,
repent of our sins, forgive those who have hurt us, and be ready to meet
Jesus and go to heaven at any moment.

Prayer: Father, may I finish today all that You called me to do in 2008.

Promise: "Happy the man who heeds the prophetic message of this book!" —Rv
22:7

Praise: Roberta prepares for Advent by receiving the sacrament of
Reconciliation and making new-year spiritual resolutions.

Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/112808.shtml

THE MILLENNIUM

"He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil or Satan, and
chained him up for a thousand years." —Revelation 20:2

John prophesied that Satan was chained up for a thousand years. During
this time, the saints have "reigned with Christ" (Rv 20:4). St. Augustine
interpreted John's prophecy to mean that Jesus destroyed Satan's works (1
Jn 3:8) and chained him up by His death and resurrection. Therefore, we
are reigning with Christ now, and the thousand-year reign symbolized the
history of Christ's Church. This interpretation fits in with 2
Thessalonians 2 which speaks of "the secret force of lawlessness" being
presently restrained (2 Thes 2:6-7). Therefore, almost all Christian Bible
teachers over the centuries have followed St. Augustine's interpretation
of Revelation 20.

More recently, a few Christian groups have set forth a new interpretation
of "the millennium." They don't believe that Jesus defeated and restrained
the devil by His death on the cross. They doubt "the millennium" is now
because they don't see the devil restrained. However, the Lord promises us
in the Bible that we can restrain the devil and do much more against him.
We have authority over all demons (Mt 10:1), can attack and prevail over
the gates of hell (see Mt 16:18), and can quickly crush Satan under our
feet (Rm 16:20). Yet, our authority to defeat and restrain Satan is not
always apparent. This is not because we are not in "the millennium," but
because we aren't submitting ourselves to Jesus' authority. The Bible
promises we will reign with the Lord (2 Tm 2:12), not without Him. Only
when we are under Jesus' authority can we be in authority over the devil
(2 Cor 10:4-6).

Prayer: Father, let my life be an example of authority and victory over
the evil one.

Promise: "The heavens and the earth will pass away, but My words will not
pass." —Lk 21:33

Praise: In this third millennium, Jesus has set Steven free from his
longtime addiction.

When the E is Silent

Source: Dr David Jeremiah

David was in trouble. A fierce enemy is threatening his nation, his friend
Jonathan is going to die, and David's own family has been kidnapped. His men
have turned against him, and his possessions have been plundered and burned
(1 Samuel 30).

Then we come to this incredible verse-1 Samuel 30:6: "Now David was greatly
distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the
people was grieved....But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God."

We must learn the art of strengthening ourselves in the Lord our God to have
spiritual victory. Do you know how to encourage yourself when there's no one
around to do it for you? It requires a trio of spiritual disciplines:
talking to the Lord, listening to the Lord, and talking to yourself.

Talking to the Lord
The book of Psalms is full of examples of those who took their burdens to
the Lord and left them there. The writer of Psalm 61 prayed, "Hear my cry, O
God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when
my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I."

Most of us are too prone to run to another set of ears to cry and complain
to, when we should learn to first run to our Lord. His ears are always open.

Listening to the Lord
We must also learn to listen to the Lord and to trust what He tells us. Many
of us by nature are anxious people, prone to weep and worry, and all too
easy to panic. In such moments, learn to close the door, open your Bible,
and ask God to give you just the verse needed for the crisis.

One man, deeply disturbed by a family problem, decided to look up the word
"calm" in various translations of the Bible.

He calms the storm. (Psalm 107:29)

"You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then He got up and rebuked the
winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. (Matthew 8:26, NIV)

Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me. The
Lord All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm
46:10-11, CEV)

Pause, and calmly think of that! (Psalm 46:11, AB)

The man left his "prayer closet" a different person? He was learning to
strengthen himself in the Lord.

We can also strengthen ourselves through reading the writings of others.
Sometimes the Lord puts just the right books into our hands. It's a good
idea to collect a little library of Christian books and devotional classics
that you can turn to in times of need.

Talking to Yourself
Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote: "Most of your unhappiness in life is due to
the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself.
Take those thoughts that come to you the moment you wake up in the morning.
You have not originated them, but they start talking to you, they bring back
the problems of yesterday."

"You have to take yourself in hand.address yourself, preach to
yourself...say to your soul, 'Why are you cast down, O my soul?' And then
you must go on to remind yourself of God."

Sing to yourself. God has used music many times in my life to encourage me.
I have a hymnal right by my Bible on my desk.

Do you know how to strengthen yourself in the Lord when there's no Jonathan
to do it for you? Do you know how to sing to yourself, to talk and preach to
yourself? Talk to Him, listen to Him, then talk to yourself in word and
song, remembering His great faithfulness.

And by and by, instead of saying like the author of Psalm 42, "Why are you
cast down, O my soul?" you'll be saying like the author of Psalm 103: "Bless
the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!"

R. S. V. P.

"Happy are they who have been invited to the wedding feast of the
Lamb." —Revelation 19:9

Today is a day of Thanksgiving in the U.S.A. Many people are invited to
sumptuous feasts with family and friends, and they happily look forward to
the Thanksgiving meal. You can imagine the joy of the hosts when their
invited guests appear at the door.

God also has prepared a feast today that by comparison makes a
Thanksgiving turkey look like a "disgusting bird" (Rv 18:2). In fact, He
has also prepared this feast tomorrow, this weekend, and for all eternity.
This feast is the ultimate: "the wedding feast of the Lamb" (Rv 19:9). It
is celebrated without pause in heaven, and it is celebrated on earth in
the Mass.

As with a Thanksgiving meal, it is easy to imagine God eagerly
anticipating the arrival of His guests, for "He invited many" (Lk 14:16).
Instead of being thrilled at being invited, the guests "began to excuse
themselves, one and all" (Lk 14:18). Some simply "ignored the invitation
and went their way" (Mt 22:5). Apparently, most of the guests were more
bothered than thankful to be invited.

Let's happily and thankfully accept God's invitation and go to Mass today.
As we enter the Church for the feast, let us "enter His gates with
thanksgiving, His courts with praise" (Ps 100:4). "Happy are those who are
called to His supper!"

Prayer: "I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all of my heart...I will
worship at Your holy temple and give thanks to Your name" (Ps 138:1, 2).

Promise: "When these things begin to happen, stand erect and hold your
heads high, for your deliverance is near at hand." —Lk 21:28

Praise: St. John's parish has a tradition of collecting food for the needy
and bringing it to Thanksgiving Mass to present at the offering.

PRAISE IN PERSECUTION

People "will manhandle and persecute you." —Luke 21:12

"Anyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus can expect to be
persecuted" (2 Tm 3:12). The Lord wants us to expect persecution. This
expectation prepares and arms us for spiritual warfare (1 Pt 4:1). To help
us expect persecution, the Lord has told us we will be manhandled,
persecuted, arrested, and brought to trial because of our love for Him (Lk
21:12). We will "be delivered up" even by our "parents, brothers,
relatives and friends," and some of us will be put to death (Lk 21:16).

We often react to the "good news" of persecution with denial, fear, or
sadness. However, the Lord wants us to stand erect and hold our heads high
(Lk 21:28). He wants us to be like Paul and Silas, who prayed and sang
hymns in the midst of suffering persecution (Acts 16:25). Even at the time
of the mass apostasy and as the seven final plagues are poured out on this
earth (Rv 15:1), we should be "full of joy" for having "been judged worthy
of ill-treatment for the sake of the Name" (Acts 5:41).

Under any conditions, we can sing: "Mighty and wonderful are Your works,
Lord God Almighty! Righteous and true are Your ways, O King of the
nations!" (Rv 15:3) In persecution, we will shout with all the angels and
saints: "Alleluia! The Lord is King, our God, the Almighty! Let us rejoice
and be glad, and give Him glory! For this is the wedding day of the Lamb"
(Rv 19:6-7). Praise Him always and with special enthusiasm when you're
privileged to be persecuted.

Prayer: Father, judge me worthy to be persecuted.

Promise: "Since You alone are holy, all nations shall come and worship in
Your presence." —Rv 15:4

Praise: James gets up early to go to Mass before he goes to work.

THE GRAPES OF WRATH

"Use your sharp sickle and gather the grapes from the vines of the
earth." —Revelation 14:18

On the last day, an angel will gather those who have refused to love the
Lord with all their hearts. He will throw these people like grapes "into
the huge winepress of God's wrath" (Rv 14:19). John prophesied that "so
much blood poured out of the winepress that for two hundred miles around,
it reached as high as a horse's bridle" (Rv 14:20). In other words, there
will be many grapes of wrath, many lost souls. Jesus said the same thing:
"The gate that leads to damnation is wide, the road is clear, and many
choose to travel it" (Mt 7:13, see also Lk 13:24). Moreover, Paul
prophesied that there would be a "mass apostasy" in the last days (2 Thes
2:3).

The Lord has revealed to us that many will go to hell, not to make us
despair of going to heaven, but to encourage us to accept His grace. "It
is no part of your heavenly Father's plan that a single one of these
little ones shall ever come to grief" (Mt 18:14). He wants us all "to be
saved and to come to know the truth" (1 Tm 2:4). Jesus promised: "No one
who comes will I ever reject" (Jn 6:37). The people who go to hell are
those who absolutely insist on it. The Lord does not want anyone to be
among the grapes of wrath.

Jesus died on the cross to save us all. He has proven His love for us and
clearly wants us to be with Him forever in heaven. Will you accept His
love and respond by loving Him with all your heart?

Prayer: Father, may I not condemn myself to hell, but let You love me.

Promise: "As I watched, a white cloud appeared, and on the cloud sat One
like a Son of Man wearing a gold crown on His head and holding a sharp
sickle in His hand." —Rv 14:14

Praise: St. Catherine renounced the possibility of marriage and abandoned
her entire life to the divine will to be one with her God.

DYING DAY

"These are men who have never been defiled by immorality with women. They
are pure and follow the Lamb wherever He goes." —Revelation 14:4

Here was this poor widow — without husband, family, money, or strength.
She had nothing of worldly value; she only had faith in God. This poor
widow painstakingly made her way to the Temple treasury. She gave her
life's savings — two copper coins — as her offering (Lk 21:2). She
rejoiced in the privilege of giving to the service of Yahweh.

Some time after this selfless and self-giving gift, she died. In the
twinkling of an eye, the poor widow "heard a sound from heaven which
resembled the roaring of the deep, or loud peals of thunder" (Rv 14:2),
along with "the melody of harpists (Rv 14:2). With this awesome
accompaniment, she opened her eyes and saw Jesus face to face (1 Cor
13:12). She looked into His eyes and saw a love beyond all telling. The
poor widow was perfectly happy. It is impossible to express the joy she
felt in being home with the Father, Jesus, and the Spirit forever.

What will you be doing shortly before your death? When you open your eyes
after dying, whom will you see?

Prayer: "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the
hour of our death. Amen."

Promise: "They make contributions out of their surplus, but she from her
want has given what she could not afford — every penny she had to live
on." —Lk 21:4

Praise: St. Andrew was blessed to be among the first to follow the Lamb
and led his 116 companions to follow Jesus faithfully as they were being
martyred.

PM eNewsletter The Feast of Christ the King

Nov. 23rd The Feast of Christ the King

You, Jesus, are our shepherd, and there is nothing that we
want, except to know, love, and serve You with all of our
hearts, souls and minds.

Jesus, help us to see how special we really are in Your
eyes, and how that should help us to view all others with
that same understanding of specialness, that we all deserve.

Let us see, that as our king and lord, You call us all to
be priest, prophet and king, to all in our world.

Let us pray for the grace, to love and help, all of our
brothers and sisters, of all races and creeds.

Let us be prayer warriors, and doers for all.
Amen and Amen

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday AT THE KING'S FEET
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=11/23/2008

"Christ must reign until God has put all enemies under
His feet." —1 Corinthians 15:25

The Old Testament describes God's plan as making His
enemies His footstool (Ps 110:1). Reigning kings in Old
Testament days placed their feet on the prone bodies of
their enemies as a sign of bringing them to submission.
God's vanquished enemies would likewise be subject to
His will (1 Cor 15:27-28).

In the New Testament, God's enemies are described as
humbled beneath Jesus' feet (Mt 22:44). Jesus, God
Himself, died on His cross for all His enemies (Rm 5:8).
He reigns on His cross as crucified King (Jn 19:19).

We all were enemies of Christ the King as we lived in
sin (Rm 5:10). Then we came to know Jesus as Savior,
Lord, God, and King, and we repented. We came to the
foot of His cross and were shocked speechless when
we realized how much Jesus, King of the universe,
suffered out of love for us (Is 52:15). We humbled
ourselves at His crucified feet (Mt 22:44), and we fell
at His feet to worship, thank, and praise Him (Lk 17:16).

King Jesus washed our feet; now we "must wash each
other's feet" (Jn 13:14). We wash King Jesus' feet by
feeding the hungry, welcoming strangers, visiting
prisoners, and comforting the ill (Mt 25:35ff).

Have you subjected everything to King Jesus? Give
Him your all. Place "all things under His feet" (1 Cor 15:27).

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

THE ROSARY

"CONTEMPLATION AND SILENCE"

The Rosary is a school of contemplation and silence. At
first glance, it could seem a prayer that accumulates words,
therefore difficult to reconcile with the silence that is rightly
recommended for meditation and contemplation. In fact,
this cadent repetition of the Hail Mary does not disturb
inner silence but indeed both demands and nourishes it.

THE VOICE OF GOD

.. In reciting the Hail Mary, we must be careful that our
voices do not "cover" the voice of God Who always speaks
through the silence like the "still small voice" of a gentle
breeze (1 Kgs 19:12). ... How important it is to foster this
silence full of God, both in one's personal recitation and its
recitation with the community!

"RESPONSE TO THE WORD"

If it is to be a contemplative prayer, the Rosary must
always emerge from the silence of the heart as a
response to the Word, after the model of Mary's prayer.
Seen clearly, the Rosary is completely interwoven with
scriptural elements.

Revelation 11:4-12, Psalm 144, Luke 20:27-40
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/112208.shtml

EARLY RISERS

"Sons of the resurrection, they are sons of God." —Luke 20:36

We are the resurrection-people. When the secular humanists, the Sadducees
of modern times, focus their lives on this side of death and for practical
purposes claim there is no resurrection from the dead (Lk 20:27), we talk
about "the age to come" when we no longer marry, become like angels, and
are not liable to death (Lk 20:35, 36). The secularists often refuse to
believe us. They even persecute us and try to kill us. They mistakenly
think that they can refute our claims to resurrection by killing us. In
fact, however, this sets the stage for us to prove we are the
resurrection-people. "But after the three and a half days, the breath of
life which comes from God returned" to us (Rv 11:11). When we stood on our
feet, "sheer terror gripped those who saw" us (Rv 11:11).

Secularists and those of the world have martyred millions of Christians,
but "the blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians" (Catechism, 852). I
solemnly assure you, "unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and
dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much
fruit" (Jn 12:24). "God is not the God of the dead but of the living. All
are alive for Him" (Lk 20:38). "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Cor
15:54).

Prayer: Holy Spirit, through Your life in me may I already begin to rise.

Promise: "The two prophets heard a loud voice from heaven say to them,
'Come up here!' So they went up to heaven in a cloud as their enemies
looked on." —Rv 11:12

Praise: St. Cecilia, a saint who has been mentioned since the earliest
times in the Mass's canon, lived her life as a loving song to her God and
spends eternity singing His praises.

SWEET AND SOUR

"Here, take it and eat it! It will be sour in your stomach, but in your
mouth it will taste as sweet as honey." —Revelation 10:9

Many of you have come to appreciate reading the daily eucharistic readings
and the teachings on them in One Bread, One Body. Many times the word of
God is as sweet as honey for you (Rv 10:9). You can proclaim: "How sweet
to my palate are Your promises, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Ps
119:103)

However, if you keep reading the Bible and this commentary on it, God's
word will become "sour in your stomach" (Rv 10:9). God's word will bring
you face to face with the cross and its sufferings, rejections,
forgivenesses, and sacrifices. God's word will become the "sour wine" of
Calvary (see Lk 23:36).

Nonetheless, persevere and drink in God's word even when it turns sour,
for as it changes, it will change you into the image and likeness of the
holy God. Pray with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemani: "My Father, if this
cannot pass Me by without My drinking it, Your will be done!" (Mt 26:42)
If you drink the cup of God's word gone sour, then, with Jesus, you will
see the sour wine transformed into His saving blood (see Jn 19:30, 34).

Prayer: Father, when I receive Holy Communion, I commit myself to drink in
Your word no matter what.

Promise: "My house is meant for a house of prayer." —Lk 19:46; Is 56:7

SEEING THROUGH THE TEARS

"Coming within sight of the city, He wept over it." —Luke 19:41

The Church is renewed through a "vale of tears." We don't just pray and
work for renewal; we cry for it. We will see the light through our tears
when we love enough to weep bitterly (Rv 5:4) for Jesus to "open the
scroll" (Rv 5:5), that is, reveal His plan for renewing the Church. The
Lord wants to give us "full knowledge of His will through perfect wisdom
and spiritual insight" (Col 1:9). He knows that without a vision for
renewal, we will flounder (see Prv 29:18, JB).

However, the devil tries to prevent us from receiving God's revelation for
renewal. He will even attempt to obstruct the path of God's angels to
prevent them from revealing to us God's plan for renewal (see Dn
10:12-13). If we keep on crying, not in self-pity but in repentance for
our sins and in love for God and others, we will get the message, see the
light, and renew the Church.

Do you love enough to stop crying for yourself and start crying for the
Church? Do you love enough to keep crying even for years? If so, the Lord
can use you to renew the Church. Then you will cry tears of joy.

Prayer: Father, "oh, that my head were a spring of water, my eyes a
fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night over the slain of the
daughter of my people!" (Jer 8:23, NAB)

Promise: "You made of them a kingdom, and priests to serve our God, and
they shall reign on the earth." —Rv 5:10

HOLY MASS: A HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE

"Holy, holy, holy..." —Revelation 4:8

The book of Revelation gives us a vision that lifts our minds and our
spirit from an earthly to a heavenly perspective. St. John's vision helps
us to set our hearts on heaven rather than earth (Col 3:1-2).

More than anything else on earth, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass enables
us to have not only a heavenly perspective, but even a heavenly
experience. In the Mass, Jesus is present in the Eucharist. Jesus Himself
said: "I Myself am the Living Bread come down from heaven" for us to eat
and never die (Jn 6:50, 51). In the Person of the eucharistic Jesus,
"heaven is wedded to earth" (Easter Vigil Exultet).

In the Mass, we join with the angels and saints as they sing, "Holy, holy,
holy" (Rv 4:8). In the Mass, we spend our lives in heavenly worship and
earthly charity until Jesus returns. At Mass, we "praise the Lord in His
sanctuary" (Ps 150:1). We wait in joyful hope for Jesus to come again and
bring us with Him to heaven. In the Mass, we have "an open door to heaven"
(Rv 4:1) as we join in the heavenly worship "around the throne" of God (Rv
4:3). In the Mass, "the Eucharist is celebrated in communion with the
whole Church in heaven and on earth" (Catechism, 1354).

At Mass, "we have our citizenship in heaven; it is from there that we
eagerly await the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ" (Phil 3:20).
"Participation in the Holy Sacrifice [of the Mass]...unites us even now to
the Church in heaven" (Catechism, 1419). Go to Mass as often as possible,
even daily. Experience heaven on earth.

Prayer: Jesus, I invest my life in taking up the cup of salvation, the
Bread of Life, and calling upon Your name at Mass (Ps 116:12-13).

Promise: "Whoever has will be given more, but the one who has not will
lose the little he has." —Lk 19:26

Praise: Philip attends daily Mass as often as possible and then makes a
spiritual communion when unable to attend.

YOU MAKE ME SICK!

"Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spew you out of My
mouth!" —Revelation 3:16

Jesus said that the lukewarm Christians of Laodicea made Him feel like
throwing up. Then He knocked at their door and wanted to have supper with
them (Rv 3:20). Isn't it contradictory to want to have supper with people
who make you sick? Yet Jesus loves us so much that He is willing to be
sick, to suffer, and to die so as to share His life with us.

Zacchaeus, the little tax collector, was another sickening person. Tax
collectors, because of their complicity with the oppressive Roman
government, made Jews sick. The Jews didn't throw up, but they would
sometimes spit at the tax collectors. Jesus also was repulsed by the sins
of Zacchaeus and by the thought of having to atone for them on Calvary.
However, Jesus reached out to Zacchaeus, invited Himself to supper, and
brought salvation to Zacchaeus' house (Lk 19:5, 9).

We have been or are sickening in our sins. Even when we can't stand
ourselves, Jesus is knocking at the door. Open up to Him.

Prayer: Jesus, come into my life this very hour.

Promise: "I will never erase his name from the book of the living, but
will acknowledge him in the presence of My Father and His angels." —Rv 3:5

Praise: St. Paul rejoiced when the gospel of Christ spread to others, even
when that meant physical suffering for himself (Phil 1:17-18).

BELIEVING IS SEEING

"At that very moment he was given his sight and began to follow
Him." —Luke 18:43

Jesus' healing of the blind beggar of Jericho is preceded by the young
rich man's rejection of Jesus and followed by Zacchaeus' acceptance of
Him. Jesus healed not only the physically blind but also those spiritually
blinded by the god of the present age, the god of greed and a
pleasure-seeking lifestyle (2 Cor 4:4). The love of money is the root of
all evil, including spiritual blindness (1 Tm 6:10).

For example, the Pharisees were "blind guides" and "blind fools" (Mt
23:16-17) because they "were avaricious men" (Lk 16:14). We can act like
the young rich man, refuse to let Jesus heal us of our blindness, and walk
away sad (Mk 10:22). On the other hand, we can be like Zacchaeus. Jesus
will open our eyes and our hearts. We will give half or more of our
possessions to the poor (Lk 19:8).

On the day we are healed of spiritual blindness, salvation will have truly
come to our house (Lk 19:9). Even if you're blind to being blind, by faith
draw close to Jesus today and pray: "Lord, I want to see" (Lk 18:41).
Jesus will answer: "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you" (Lk
18:42).

Prayer: Lord, I want to see today, no matter what.

Promise: "Happy is the man who reads this prophetic message, and happy are
those who hear it and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time
is near!" —Rv 1:3

Praise: St. Elizabeth, queen of Hungary, loved the sick and thus built a
hospital at the foot of her castle.

The editor

Nov. 16th The 33rd Sunday in ordinary time

This week, Jesus, we also celebrate another temple.

The new ark of the covenant, Mary our mother.

We celebrate the fact that You gave us a pure virgin, who
was so full of grace, that sin wasn't even a thought of hers.

You gave us a women, a mother, and an intercessor for us
for all time.

Jesus, as we celebrate the Presentation of Mary, let us
see the joy that You, the eternal God, must have felt
when she was bought to Your temple.

Let us have that sense of love that You have for her, and
let us share that love with all others.

Let us celebrate a plan of salvation that is working out
perfectly. Thank You Jesus. Amen and Amen

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday "THE DAY OF THE LORD"
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=11/16/2008

"You know very well that the day of the Lord is coming
like a thief in the night." —1 Thessalonians 5:2

The last day of all days after which there will be no more
time is called the day of the Lord. This day is the day of
ruin (1 Thes 5:3). "On that day the heavens will vanish
with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire" (2 Pt 3:10).
The day of the Lord is also the day of Christ's return. "The
Lord Himself will come down from heaven at the word of
command, at the sound of the archangel's voice and God's
trumpet; and those who have died in Christ will rise first.
Then we, the living, the survivors, will be caught up with
them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air" (1 Thes 4:16-17).
Therefore, the day of the Lord is also the day of resurrection
for those who have died in Christ and of the assumption into
the air for those Christians still living. Finally, the day of the
Lord will be the day of judgment (see Mt 25:31ff) and the day
of eternal salvation (Heb 9:28) or everlasting damnation (see Mt 25:46).

Although the day of the Lord is the day of ruin, return,
resurrection, assumption, judgment, salvation, and
damnation, it is primarily the day of the Lord. The Lord
Jesus should be the Focus of the last day, today, and
all our days. If we have totally given our lives to the Lord,
we won't have to fear the last day. We can cry out:
"Maranatha!" "Come, Lord Jesus!" (Rv 22:20)

Seek First the Kingdom (Mt. 6:33)
"Repent! The kingdom of God is at hand!" —Mk 1:15, our translation

Jesus told us to present His gospel by proclaiming that
the kingdom of God is at hand (Mt 10:7). He commanded
us to seek first His kingdom and then everything else
would be given to us (Mt 6:33). Whenever we pray, we
should pray for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in
heaven (Mt 6:10). He gave His Church the keys of the
kingdom (Mt 16:19). When Jesus healed and delivered
people from the evil one, these were signs of the
kingdom (Lk 11:20). The Last Supper was a
kingdom-celebration (Mt 26:29). Jesus was even put to
death because He claimed to be the King of the Jews
(Lk 23:38). Jesus repeatedly emphasizes that the
gospel is to be presented in terms of the kingdom.

Yet most Christians today never think of Christianity as
the building of a kingdom. They think in terms of personal
relationship with Jesus, membership in a church, salvation,
or life in the Spirit. These are essential aspects of God's
kingdom, but we must see the whole kingdom-vision if we
are to live a true, Biblical Christianity.

This pamphlet seeks to present a vision of God's
kingdom: how real it is, and how different it is from the
form of government we're accustomed to. This will prepare
us to make a decision to give all that we have to become
active citizens in God's kingdom.

means to grow in intimacy with Jesus, and to learn at the
school of the Blessed Virgin always to fulfill the divine will.
It is contemplation of the mysteries of Christ in spiritual
union with Mary ...

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

To be apostles of the Rosary, ... it is necessary to
experience personally the beauty and depth of this
prayer which is simple and accessible to everyone.

LET MARY LEAD YOU

It is ... necessary to let the Blessed Virgin take one
by the hand to contemplate the Face of Christ: a joyful,
luminous, sorrowful and glorious Face. Those who, like
Mary and with her, cherish and ponder the mysteries of
Jesus assiduously, increasingly assimilate His
sentiments and are conformed to Him.
