February 10th, 2007 5th Sunday in ordinary time
Oh Jesus, we are only days to the start of Lent, and we need this time to prepare for a
worthy lenten cleansing.
So Jesus, give us the gifts that St. Paul calls the great ones, faith, hope and love.
Let us, this week, concentrate on faith.
Lord, give us the faith to face all the challenges of life with true trust in You.
Let us realize that all things work to good for those who love You.
And that, Christ, You are always truly aware of everything that is happening, and Your
plan for all will work out perfectly.
Jesus, give us this faith when all things seem so dark, and impossible to be accomplished.
When we are hurting from pain, from either physical or emotional problems.
Jesus, You are the way, the truth and the life, thank you.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday HE TOUCHED ME

"Now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged." -Isaiah 6:7
We properly recognize our sinfulness not by comparing ourselves to others, but by truthfully
realizing Who God is, how holy and majestic He is, and especially by comparing ourselves to
His holiness.
Each of today's readings all have in common a man who recognized his sinfulness and
unworthiness before God. They also have in common a man who additionally recognized that God
was calling him to His service. Isaiah, Paul, and Peter all encountered the Lord personally
with a profound experience of the awesome power of God (Is 6:1ff; Acts 9:3ff; Lk 5:5ff). Each
man allowed God to cleanse him and make him worthy to serve Him. They responded with a deep
commitment to the Lord and with steadfast perseverance for the rest of their lives.
God knows we are sinful. That is why He sent us a Savior, Jesus, to save us from our sins. He
knows we are sinful and unworthy, but in His wisdom, He has called us anyway. Jesus takes away
our sin. He touches our lips, most particularly in the Eucharist, and cleanses us. He commands
us: "Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching men" (Lk 5:10). Even though we are
unworthy, His grace in us will not be ineffective (2 Cor 12:10).
God doesn't want us to languish in our feelings of unworthiness. Rather, He wants us to jump
into the deep ocean of His grace (Lk 5:4), abandoning ourselves into His mercy and His service.
Surrender your life to Jesus. Give Him your sins and your life.
Prayer: Father, I will go wherever You send me.
Promise: "Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching men." -Lk 5:10
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, Who bears the marks of His death as a sign of His great love for us.

is the Holy Spirit 'who confirmed the hearts and minds of the disciples, who revealed the
mysteries of the Gospel, who shed upon them the light of things divine. Strengthened by his gift,
they did not fear either prisons or chains for the name of the Lord; indeed they even trampled
upon the powers and torments of the world, armed and strengthened by him, having in themselves
the gifts which this same Spirit bestows and directs like jewels to the Church, the Bride of
Christ. It is in fact he who raises up prophets in the Church, instructs teachers, guides
tongues, works wonders and healings, accomplishes miracles, grants the discernment of spirits,
assigns governance, inspires counsels, distributes and harmonizes every other charismatic gift'
" (The Splendor of Truth, 108).

Thank you Lord for having our son arrive home during the blizzard safely! Thank you Lord that
we did not lose electricity, heat, phone or Internet! Please keep us all safe! Please bless us
and watch over all of us including the outdoor feral kitties we feed in this 30+ inches of snow
we have. Please let the kitties be safe and sound. Don't let them freeze to death... Please
protect us from all evil we pray in Jesus' name.Amen.

New Technology for Bible Telephone Line Ministry
Local Numbers Double Practically Overnight!
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 19 years. Begun by Fr. Al
in 1991, it now continues with three teachers trained by him and by Presentation
Ministries. In cities where local numbers have been established, the BTL provides
callers with a short teaching on the readings for the daily Mass. It is available 24
hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer request which
will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day.
