TROUBLE-SHOOTERS
"Jesus grew deeply troubled." -John 13:21
Especially in Holy Week, we may become deeply troubled. We are troubled by other people, by Judases who betray the Lord and us, and by Peters who deny the Lord and us after promising never to do such a thing (see Jn 13:21ff, 38). We may also be troubled by the seeming uselessness of our lives. We may feel as if we have "toiled in vain...for nothing, uselessly" (Is 49:4). Moreover, we may be troubled even by the Holy Spirit, Who points out that we are not only victims of people like Judas and Peter but also the victimizers. We are very troubled to think that we are and have been like Judas and Peter at their worst. We are troubled to think that our uselessness and fruitlessness may not be a mirage but our own fault and the wages of our sins (see Rm 6:23).
However, the Holy Spirit not only convicts us of our sins (see Jn 16:8) but also convinces us of His mercy. The Lord "makes all things work together for the good of those who love" Him (Rm 8:28). Repent! We don't have to end like Judas in the desperation of suicide. We can repent like Peter and from this moment on live a life of glory in the Holy Spirit. Repent now!
Prayer: Father, may all my troubles lead to the joy of repentance.
Promise: "I will make you a light to the nations, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." -Is 49:6
Praise: Jan's husband joined the Church at Easter Vigil. Now their marriage is stronger than ever as they go to Mass together.

NEVER ENOUGH
"The chief priests planned to kill Lazarus too, because many Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in Him on account of Lazarus." -John 12:10-11
Jesus, the Life (Jn 14:6), will not even quench a smoldering wick (Is 42:3). In fact, when the smoldering wick, that is, Lazarus, was extinguished and was buried, Jesus raised him back to life (Jn 11:43ff).
The chief priests, however, were not content with putting Jesus the Life to death; they planned to kill Lazarus too (Jn 12:10ff). When you choose death instead of life, one death is never enough. Once you make a covenant with death (Is 28:15), you are the slave of death. Only Jesus, and those who make a covenant with Him, have victory over death. "Death has no more power over Him" and those who are in Him (see Rm 6:9).
Many of you may have chosen death, particularly through abortifacient contraceptives which caused a chemical abortion that you aren't aware even happened. You may have made a covenant with death, and death is a cruel master. Repent! Come to Jesus. Let Him break the power of death and give you life to the full (Jn 10:10).
In this holiest of weeks, ask Jesus to break any bonds of death in your life. Make a full Confession. Place yourself under the protection of Jesus, the Life (Jn 11:25; 14:6). "I have set before you life and death...Choose life...that you...may live" (Dt 30:19).
Prayer: Father, use me to help overturn this present culture of death and replace it with a civilization of love and life.
Promise: "The Lord is my life's Refuge; of whom should I be afraid?" -Ps 27:1
Praise: Mel, a company vice-president, receives the Eucharist each morning before starting his workday.

PM eNewsletter Passion Sunday
March 29th Passion Sunday
Jesus, with what love, you have loved us.
You gave Your life, that we would have eternal life, and You gave
us Your Body and Blood, as the food of life.
This week, we commemorate Your passion and death, and your
institution of the Eucharist.
What a plan the Father had for us, that You, the true sacrifice of
redemption, was offered as a never ending eternal gift of
forgivness of sin.
Your suffering paid the price for all of us, for all time.
Amen and Amen.
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE UNINTERRUPTED SANCTUS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/29/2015
"Those preceding Him as well as those who followed cried out:
'Hosanna!' " -Mark 11:9
When Jesus entered Jerusalem shortly before His death, the great
crowd "got palm branches and came out to meet Him. They kept shouting:
'Hosanna! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!' "
(Jn 12:13) Every time we go to Mass, the Church calls us to continue
these praises when we pray: "Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts,
heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the
highest."
The Church hopes that our "Holy, holy, holy" and "Hosanna" will never
change and will last forever (see Rv 4:8). When these praises were
first sung, Jesus' admirers changed their tune from "Hosanna!" to
"Crucify Him!" (Mk 15:13-14) When Jesus told Peter and the other
apostles that they would turn on Him, change their tune, and deny Him
repeatedly, they reasserted vehemently that they would die for Him
rather than deny Him (Mk 14:31). However, an hour or two later, they
"all deserted Him and fled" (Mk 14:50).
What will you do this Holy Week? By sin, will you continue to crucify
Him (see Heb 6:6) or, by repentance, will you continue to praise Him
and even help carry the cross? (see Mk 15:21) Will our Holy Week and
our lives be "Holy, holy, holy" or "Crucify, crucify, crucify"? Or
will it be both?
Prayer: Holy, holy, holy Lord, may I praise You without interruption
and forever.
Promise: "Morning after morning He opens my ear that I may hear; and
I have not rebelled, have not turned back." -Is 50:4-5

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
FATHERS AND FAMILIES
THE JOY OF FATHERHOOD
... What consolation and what recompense he receives when the children
honor this legacy! It is a joy that rewards all the toil, that overcomes
every misunderstanding and heals every wound.
"ALWAYS PRESENT"
The first need .... is ... that a father be present in the family. That
he be close to his wife, to share everything, joy and sorrow, hope and
hardship. And that he be close to his children as they grow: when they
play and when they strive, when they are carefree and when they are
distressed, when they are talkative and when they are silent, when they
are daring and when they are afraid, when they take a wrong step and
when they find their path again; a father who is always present.
PRESENT NOT CONTROLLING
To say "present" is not to say "controlling"! Fathers who are too
controlling cancel out their own children, they don't let them develop.

THE UNINTERRUPTED SANCTUS
"Those preceding Him as well as those who followed cried out: 'Hosanna!' " -Mark 11:9
When Jesus entered Jerusalem shortly before His death, the great crowd "got palm branches and came out to meet Him. They kept shouting: 'Hosanna! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!' " (Jn 12:13) Every time we go to Mass, the Church calls us to continue these praises when we pray: "Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest."
The Church hopes that our "Holy, holy, holy" and "Hosanna" will never change and will last forever (see Rv 4:8). When these praises were first sung, Jesus' admirers changed their tune from "Hosanna!" to "Crucify Him!" (Mk 15:13-14) When Jesus told Peter and the other apostles that they would turn on Him, change their tune, and deny Him repeatedly, they reasserted vehemently that they would die for Him rather than deny Him (Mk 14:31). However, an hour or two later, they "all deserted Him and fled" (Mk 14:50).
What will you do this Holy Week? By sin, will you continue to crucify Him (see Heb 6:6) or, by repentance, will you continue to praise Him and even help carry the cross? (see Mk 15:21) Will our Holy Week and our lives be "Holy, holy, holy" or "Crucify, crucify, crucify"? Or will it be both?
Prayer: Holy, holy, holy Lord, may I praise You without interruption and forever.
Promise: "Morning after morning He opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned back." -Is 50:4-5
Praise: "Hosanna! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Mk 11:9)

GOINGS-ON
"If we let Him go on like this, the whole world will believe in Him. Then the Romans will come in and sweep away our sanctuary and our nation." -John 11:48
If we let Jesus go on, if we let it be done to us according to His Word (Lk 1:38), if we "let go and let God," we will lose our lives (Lk 9:24) and lifestyles. If we let Him be the Lord of our lives, He will turn the world upside down, or more precisely, right side up. Jesus will change our plans, dethrone us, topple our kingdoms, invade our comfort zones, and place us at His feet (1 Cor 15:27).
However, if we don't let Jesus "go on like this," He will keep knocking on the door of our hearts (Rv 3:20). He will challenge us to repent. "To us He is the censure of our thoughts; merely to see Him is a hardship for us" (Wis 2:14). Because Jesus persistently insists that we repent, we will have to either repent and crucify our "flesh with its passions and desires" (Gal 5:24), or crucify Jesus for ourselves and hold Him up to contempt (Heb 6:6). Jesus acts in such a way as to give us no alternative to crucifixion - either we are crucified with Christ (Gal 2:19) or we crucify Him. To avoid crucifying Jesus, we must carry the cross daily (Lk 9:23). Let Jesus "go on."
Prayer: Father, I surrender to Your love.
Promise: "They shall live on the land which I gave to My servant Jacob, the land where their fathers lived; they shall live on it forever, they, and their children, and their children's children, with My servant David their prince forever. I will make with them a covenant of peace." -Ez 37:25-26
Praise: Grace gave as a wedding gift the promise to pray daily for the newly married couple for the rest of her life, and she did.

ON THE THRESHOLD OF GOD'S GLORY - One Bread, One Body, 3/27/2015

Jeremiah 20:10-13, Psalm 18:2-7, John 10:31-42

ON THE THRESHOLD OF GOD'S GLORY
"The Lord is with me, like a mighty Champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph." -Jeremiah 20:11
We are on the threshold of what may prove to be two of the most important weeks of our time on earth. In Holy Week, the Triduum, and the Easter octave, we will see Jesus do the works of His Father and come "to realize what it means that the Father is in" Jesus and Jesus in Him (Jn 10:38). In the next two weeks, many will come to believe in Jesus (Jn 10:42).
However, the amazing graces of Holy Week, the Triduum, and the Easter season are not uncontested. Like Jeremiah, we may be denounced and have to face "terror on every side" (Jer 20:10). With Jesus, we may feel as if we are being stoned - not with rocks but with insulting words, multiple problems, and mounting stress (see Jn 10:31).
Don't let yourself be manipulated into missing out on the sorrows and joys of the next two weeks. "Fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1). Clear your schedule as much as possible. Give God prime time in personal, family, and communal prayer. Be reconciled with God and with those who have hurt you. Go to Confession. Try to go to Mass each day, and read the daily Scriptures before and after each Mass. Make these next two weeks a life-changing retreat and a world-changing celebration. "Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!" (2 Cor 6:2)
Prayer: Father, in the next two weeks do more than I can ever ask for or imagine (Eph 3:20).
Promise: "Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for He has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!" -Jer 20:13
Praise: Although he came to Jesus late in life, Richard proceeded to give all he had for God's glory (see 1 Cor 10:31).

"Jesus answered them: 'I solemnly declare it: before Abraham came to be, I AM.' " -John 8:58
Jesus is blunt. He does not beat around the bush. He is far from diplomatic. He called people "liars" (see Jn 8:55). Then He openly and clearly called Himself "God" by using the title "I AM," the name God had given to identify Himself (Ex 3:14).
It's not surprising that people tried to stone Him and eventually succeeded in crucifying Him. Jesus ruffled a lot of feathers, overturned the money-changers' tables in cleansing the Temple, and unabashedly called the Pharisees "blind guides," "fools," "frauds," and "whitewashed tombs" (Mt 23:13-36). Jesus was asking for trouble.
Jesus acts like He's God. If He were only a man, He would be unreasonable, arrogant, and insensitive. However, He's not only a man; He's God, and therefore His conduct is justified. His behavior is abnormal for a mere man but normal for God. We will resent Jesus' message and manner unless we acknowledge Him as God. Like people of Jesus' times, we will be in constant conflict with Him until we bow before Him as the great I AM.
Because of the way Jesus acts, He can't be merely a good man. He's either a bad man or a good God. His demeanor can be reasonably interpreted in no other way. We must either adore Him or hate Him.
Prayer: Jesus, talk to me not "man to man" but "God to man."
Promise: "No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations." -Gn 17:5
Praise: Joey cried at his First Confession as Jesus revealed His mercy and love.

THE INCONCEIVABLE CONCEPTION
"A body You have prepared for Me." -Hebrews 10:5
Jesus is the eternal God. Before His Incarnation, He was Spirit (see Jn 4:24) and therefore invisible. To experience through our senses the full glory of the all-holy God would certainly have been more than we could bear (see Ex 33:20). Therefore, we would more likely see only "the vision of the likeness of the glory of the Lord" (Ez 1:28). This caused Ezekiel to fall on his face (Ez 2:1). Such an experience of God's presence - even several times removed - would probably knock us out or even kill us. For example, at the end of the world, Jesus will annihilate the mighty Antichrist "by manifesting His own presence" (2 Thes 2:8). It is impossible for us to understand and express even remotely how awesome is Jesus, our God.
This makes it all the more shocking that God became man (see Jn 1:14). To see God with a human body is more shocking than seeing your spouse as a termite, cockroach, or some other bug. Even beholding Jesus' glorified, risen body is shocking. It should be impossible for us to ever get used to seeing God as a human being.
Why the Incarnation? The mystery of love! Why the Incarnation? Extreme humility! Respond to the mystery of the Incarnation by living a radically new life of total love for Jesus, the God-Man.
Prayer: Jesus, You emptied Yourself for love of me (see Phil 2:7). I now decide to let You empty me of sin, pride, and selfishness.
Promise: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy Offspring to be born will be called Son of God." -Lk 1:35
Praise: Praise Jesus, the God-Man! Praise Jesus, the Word made flesh! (Jn 1:14) Alleluia!

FOOD POISON?
"The people complained against God and Moses...In punishment the Lord sent among the people saraph serpents, which bit the people so that many of them died." -Numbers 21:5-6
Hundreds and thousands of Israelites were repeatedly destroyed because of their sins (see 1 Cor 10:8-10; Nm 25:1-9; 14:37). Their basic sin was idolatry, and a significant part of this sin was their craving for the food of slavery. They wanted meat, fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, garlic (Nm 11:4-5), grain, figs, grapes, and pomegranates (Nm 20:5). The Israelites were disgusted with the "wretched" food God gave them (Nm 21:5). They complained about the manna God miraculously gave them each day for free.
Is an inordinate desire for food contributing to the sin of idolatry in your life? Ezekiel prophesied: "They shall not be allowed to satisfy their craving or fill their bellies, for this has been the occasion of their sin" (Ez 7:19). Paul spoke of people who "will end in disaster! Their god is their belly and their glory is in their shame" (Phil 3:19). He was talking about "enemies of the cross" (Phil 3:18), "those who are set upon the things of this world" (Phil 3:19). Paul warned us to avoid the company of those who cause dissension and scandal through deception and flattery (Rm 16:17-18). "Such men serve, not Christ our Lord, but their own bellies" (Rm 16:18). "My little children, be on your guard against idols" (1 Jn 5:21), including the idol of food.
Prayer: Father, as I fast this Lent, make me aware of temptations to gluttony and idolatry.
Promise: "You belong to what is below; I belong to what is above. You belong to this world - a world which cannot hold Me. That is why I said you would die in your sins. You will surely die in your sins unless you come to believe that I AM." -Jn 8:23-24
Praise: After confessing his sexual sin, Andrew was able, by the grace of God, to sin no more (see Jn 8:11).

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CULTURE OF DEATH
"The Lord heard her prayer. As she was being led to execution, God stirred up the holy spirit of a young boy named Daniel, and he cried aloud." -Daniel 13:44-46
Susanna was "a very beautiful and God-fearing woman" (Dn 13:2). "Her pious parents had trained their daughter according to the law of Moses" (Dn 13:3). Susanna was happily married to Joakim, a very rich man who was the most respected of all the Jews in Babylon (Dn 13:4). Susanna was blessed with children in her marriage (Dn 13:30). Susanna was a very holy, beautiful woman, a beloved daughter, faithful wife, and devoted mother.
Then two wicked judges tried to force her to commit adultery with them by threatening to falsely accuse her of adultery and condemn her to death, if she did not give in to them. Susanna, however, chose to remain pure, faithful, and holy, even though she would lose her life, good reputation, marriage, and family (Dn 13:23). This was not the first evil act these judges had committed. They had subverted justice by "passing unjust sentences, condemning the innocent, and freeing the guilty" (Dn 13:53). They had also sexually abused several other women (Dn 13:57).
The Lord saved Susanna's life and reputation. He saved Susanna's husband, parents, and children from being disgraced and traumatized. He stopped the judges' subversion of justice and sexual abuse, which had gone on for years. The Lord transformed a perverted society by stirring up "the holy spirit of a young boy named Daniel" (Dn 13:45).
We also need the Holy Spirit to be stirred up in us (see 2 Tm 1:6-7) and transform our culture of death into a civilization of life and love. Come, Holy Spirit this Lent, Easter, and Pentecost!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, cry out in my heart "Abba" ("Father") (Gal 4:6).
Promise: "Nor do I condemn you. You may go. But from now on, avoid this sin." -Jn 8:11
Praise: St. Toribio baptized and confirmed nearly a million people as bishop of Peru.

We also need the Holy Spirit to be stirred up in us (see 2 Tm 1:6-7)
and transform our culture of death into a civilization of life and
love. Come, Holy Spirit this Lent, Easter, and Pentecost!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, cry out in my heart "Abba" ("Father") (Gal 4:6).
Promise: "Nor do I condemn you. You may go. But from now on, avoid
this sin." -Jn 8:11
Praise: St. Toribio baptized and confirmed nearly a million people as
bishop of Peru.

teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
FATHERS AND FAMILIES
NEEDED BY ALL
Every family needs a father... I would like to begin ...with the Book
of Proverbs, words that a father addresses to his own son ... "My son,
if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. My soul will rejoice
when your lips speak what is right" (Pr 23:15-16).
"PRIDE AND EMOTION"
Nothing could better express the pride and emotion a father feels when
he understands that he has handed down to his child what really
matters in life, that is, a wise heart.
THE COST OF FATHERHOOD
A father knows all too well what it costs to hand down this heritage:
how close, how gentle and how firm to be.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CULTURE OF DEATH
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/23/2015
"The Lord heard her prayer. As she was being led to execution, God
stirred up the holy spirit of a young boy named Daniel, and he cried
aloud." -Daniel 13:44-46
Susanna was "a very beautiful and God-fearing woman" (Dn 13:2). "Her
pious parents had trained their daughter according to the law of
Moses" (Dn 13:3). Susanna was happily married to Joakim, a very rich
man who was the most respected of all the Jews in Babylon (Dn 13:4).
Susanna was blessed with children in her marriage (Dn 13:30). Susanna
was a very holy, beautiful woman, a beloved daughter, faithful wife,
and devoted mother.
Then two wicked judges tried to force her to commit adultery with them
by threatening to falsely accuse her of adultery and condemn her to
death, if she did not give in to them. Susanna, however, chose to
remain pure, faithful, and holy, even though she would lose her life,
good reputation, marriage, and family (Dn 13:23). This was not the
first evil act these judges had committed. They had subverted justice
by "passing unjust sentences, condemning the innocent, and freeing the
guilty" (Dn 13:53). They had also sexually abused several other women
(Dn 13:57).
The Lord saved Susanna's life and reputation. He saved Susanna's
husband, parents, and children from being disgraced and traumatized.
He stopped the judges' subversion of justice and sexual abuse, which
had gone on for years. The Lord transformed a perverted society by
stirring up "the holy spirit of a young boy named Daniel" (Dn 13:45).
We also need the Holy Spirit to be stirred up in us (see 2 Tm 1:6-7)
and transform our culture of death into a civilization of life and
love. Come, Holy Spirit this Lent, Easter, and Pentecost!

"THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT" (Mt 26:28)
"The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant." -Jeremiah 31:31
God, Who is Love (1 Jn 4:16), wants to love us in a permanent, faithful relationship, which is similar to marriage, only better. As married couples make a covenant with each other by exchanging marriage vows, so the Lord made covenants with Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and all His chosen people. The problem with these covenants was that God's people broke them all (Jer 31:32). Human beings seem incapable of keeping a covenant with God, incapable of loving God faithfully. Therefore, God promised to make a new covenant. He said: "I will place My law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be My people" (Jer 31:33). We will be able to keep this covenant because God will place it inside us and write it on our hearts. This means that God will give us a new nature, one capable of love and faithfulness.
Jesus gave us this new nature and new covenant by His death on the cross (see Mt 26:28). We receive our new nature and covenant by being born again of water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5), by being baptized into Jesus and into His death and resurrection (Rm 6:3). By faith, we live according to our new nature and in the new covenant.
Two weeks from today, you will be asked to renew your baptismal promises. You will be asked to decide if you will live a life of covenant love. What will you decide?
Prayer: Father, may my life be like a grain of wheat which falls to the earth and dies to bear much fruit (Jn 12:24).
Promise: "Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered; and when perfected, He became the Source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him." -Heb 5:8-9
Praise: Praise and honor to the crucified and risen Covenant-Maker!
-----------------------------------------------------------------

CROSS-WORD PUZZLES
"No man ever spoke like that before." -John 7:46
"The crowd was sharply divided over Him." -John 7:43
The temple guards "forgot" to arrest Jesus, so impressed were they by His words. However, the Pharisees were unimpressed; they said the guards and the crowds that listened to Jesus had been taken in (Jn 7:46ff).
This was not the first time Jesus received such contradictory reactions to His words. At His hometown of Nazareth, "they marveled at the appealing discourse which came from His lips" (Lk 4:22). Nevertheless, a few minutes later, "the whole audience in the synagogue was filled with indignation. They rose up and expelled Him from the town" (Lk 4:28-29).
Jesus "was teaching in the temple area from day to day. The chief priests and scribes meanwhile were looking for a way to destroy Him, as were the leaders of the people, but they had no idea how to achieve it, for indeed the entire populace was listening to Him and hanging on His words" (Lk 19:47-48). Jesus' words were so powerfully popular and convicting that He was protected for years from those who were antagonized by His words.
Jesus said: "I gave them Your word, and the world has hated them for it" (Jn 17:14). Jesus is "an obstacle and a stumbling stone. Those who stumble and fall are the disbelievers in God's word" (1 Pt 2:8). We will either hate Jesus, His Word, and those who proclaim His Word (see Jn 15:18, 20), or we will find His words to be the joy and the happiness of our hearts (Jer 15:16).
Let the Holy Spirit wield God's Word (see Eph 6:17) to crucify your flesh with its passions and desires (Gal 5:24). Otherwise, you will continue to crucify Jesus (Heb 6:6). Submit to God's Word with joy.
Prayer: Father, I accept Your grace to conform my life to Your Word.
Promise: "A Shield before me is God, Who saves the upright of heart." -Ps 7:11
Praise: Jim left his Bible at work. He was so upset that he made the long drive back to work that night so he could have his Bible.

"SET FREE IN THE OPEN" (see Ps 18:20)
"At this they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a finger on Him because His hour had not yet come." -John 7:30
Jesus repeatedly took His place publicly amid ferocious opposition and boldly proclaimed the Word of God. "This led some of the people of Jerusalem to remark: 'Is this not the One they want to kill? Here He is speaking in public and they don't say a word to Him!' " (Jn 7:25-26)
The keys to Jesus' fearlessness are:
* His relationship with His Father. Because Jesus knew that the Father loved Him (see Jn 5:20), He had total confidence that His Father would protect Him fully, until His "hour" came to suffer (see Jn 7:30; 12:27).
* His knowledge of being sent by the Father to proclaim God's Word. Jesus knew that the full authority of God the Father was backing Him up (see Mt 28:18; Jn 5:36; 7:16). Because Jesus sought glory for His Father Who sent Him and not for Himself (Jn 7:18), His heart burned with zeal rather than cowered due to self-preservation.
* His love. "Love has no room for fear; rather, perfect love casts out all fear" (1 Jn 4:18).
Now Jesus says to us: "As the Father has sent Me, so I send You" (Jn 20:21). Let's take up our places in God's kingdom and be confident. God will give us strength even in the full sight of our foes (Ps 23:5). "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Rm 8:31) Like the psalmist, we can say: "They attacked me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord came to my support. He set me free in the open, and rescued me, because He loves me" (Ps 18:19-20).
Prayer: Father, I know fear is useless. Increase my trust in You (Mk 5:36) and take away all my fear.
Promise: "Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the Lord delivers him." -Ps 34:20
Praise: Dave forgave his wife for being unfaithful to him.

NO FEAR
"Joseph, son of David, have no fear." -Matthew 1:20
Shortly before Jesus was crucified, He prayed: "O Father most holy, protect them with Your name" (Jn 17:11). "Guard them from the evil one" (Jn 17:15). We need to be on guard, for our "opponent the devil is prowling like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Pt 5:8). We are in such danger that the Lord has assigned guardian angels to us (Ps 91:11), and the Holy Spirit has assigned pastors to guard us as members of the Church (Acts 20:28).
Possibly the greatest guardian of all is St. Joseph. He received the ultimate guarding assignment - to guard Jesus and His mother, Mary. He will also guard us, if we let him.
We certainly need all the guards we can get, considering the diabolical threats on our lives, dangers to our health, temptations against our faith, opposition to our ministry, slander against our character, deceptions against the truth, and the chaos in society. We live in very dangerous times. We need more guards than ever, and we need Joseph more than ever.
Thank the Lord for giving Joseph to you as your guardian. Ask him to guard you and father you. Then live for Jesus zealously, boldly, confidently, and safely. St. Joseph, pray for us.
Prayer: Father, may I be safe though a thousand fall at my left side and ten thousand at my right side (Ps 91:7).
Promise: "Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before Me; your throne shall stand firm forever." -2 Sm 7:16
Praise: By obeying God, St. Joseph successfully protected Jesus from a government-led assassination attempt.
(We offer a Discipleship Retreat entitled The Most Magnificent Fruit: Christian Community "on April 17-19, 2015. You can register online at www.presentationministries.com or by calling 513-373-2397.)

ON THE THRESHOLD OF... - One Bread, One Body, 3/18/2015

Isaiah 49:8-15, Psalm 145:8-9, 13-14, 17-18, John 5:17-30

ON THE THRESHOLD OF...
"In a time of favor I answer you, on the day of salvation I help you." -Isaiah 49:8
We have been fasting for four weeks to prepare for Easter. What will the Lord do this Easter?
* Some who feel forsaken and forgotten will be assured of the Lord's tender love (see Is 49:14-15). At first, this will not change the distressing circumstances of their lives, but will dramatically change their attitude toward them.
* Long-term desolation will be replaced by restoration (Is 49:8).
* Many people trapped in the prison and darkness of sin will come out and show themselves (Is 49:9).
* Through a series of miracles, many of you will return from a self-imposed exile in the world into life in God's kingdom (see Is 49:9-12).
* The heavens, earth, and mountains will sing because of the comfort and mercy the Lord will give us (Is 49:13).
* At least hundreds of thousands of people will pass from death to life by hearing the Lord's Word and believing in Him (Jn 5:24).
* Possibly thousands of people will die in Christ, Who will raise their spirits from the dead and take them to be with Him forever in heaven (see Jn 5:29).
The risen Lord will do several million other things this upcoming Easter season. We are on the threshold of an awesome outpouring of the Lord's love and grace. Prepare to share in Easter 2015. Repent, confess, forgive, give, pray, fast, witness, heal, obey, believe, and love. Come, risen Lord Jesus!
Prayer: Father, may this be the Lent of a lifetime and the springtime of my life in the Spirit.
Promise: "An hour is coming in which all those in their tombs shall hear His voice and come forth." -Jn 5:28
Praise: St. Cyril described Christians as "pressed into the service of a great King."
